C. *** Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is gives, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, -> the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLIOK GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise tha insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Absconded from Oldham, on the 13th instant, charged • with forgery: WILLIAM LAWSON, a coal merchant, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, sandy hair, iair complexion, round face, has a twist near end of nose, which also has a slight blue mark across the biidge ; he is . generally dressed in light tweed clothes. He is supposed to be endeavouring to leave the country, probably for Spain. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Oldham, Lancashire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension!— Bow- street, May 26. low crowned hat, was found in the house. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Walmshy, Northallerton, or to Inspector Nicholson, Thirsk, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, June 2. Between 12 p. m. on the 31st ult. and 6 a. m. on the 1st inst., tho shop of Mr. John Jones, grocer and provision dealer, at Ball's Barn, Buckley, was broken and entered and stolen therein : about 6s. in Copper Money, two small paltry Brooches, and a pair of old dark coloured Spectacles. Infor- mation to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Adams, Mold, Flintshire, or at any of the Police Stations in the county of Flintshire.— Bow- street, June 2. About 2 a. m. on the 29th instant, a butcher's shop was broken into and a door Bolt stolen therein. By two men, one of whom was apprehended, the other escaj> ed, and is about 28 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, and stoutly made; dressed in blue serge jacket, dark trousers, and cloth cap. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Middlesbrough, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, May 31. During the hours of 12 midnight on the 23rd and 3 am. on the 24th instant, the grocer's shop of Charles CatheralJ, of Higher Kinnerton Hope, was broken into, and 2s. lid. in Copper, about lib. of Cheese, a Loaf of Bread, and about 20 Eggs stolen therein. Information t. o be given to Deputy Chief Constable Adams, or to Inspector Minshull, Mold, Flintshire.— Bow- street, May 29. During the night of the 23rd instant, the Booking Office of Longford Railway Station was broken and entered and stolen therein : one Saloon Pistol, No. 1 s'ze; 30 or 40 Old and Foreign Coins, one marked 1 Tag, Bag and Bobtail'; one an Isle of Man Coin, and one of the Bank of Montreal ; a Cigar Case, dark green, steel fastenings, cameo front with a lady sitting on a lion's back ; also 4s. in Copper Money. Information to be given to Superintendent Auston, Nuneaton, Warwickshire.— Bo'w- street, May 29. Between 4 p. m. on the 26th, and 4 a. m. on the 27th inst., the house of Elizabeth Butter, the Yacht Inn, Woodbank, near Chester, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : 12s. in Copper Money ; a black or dark- coloured cloth Over- coat, far worn, with black velvet collar, dark horn buttons, two pockets outside skirts, one pocket inside left breast, lined with black alpaca, and supposed double- breasted; a three- half- pint Bottle, containing Irish Whisky, labelled ' Ginger wine'; and a three- half- pint Bottle of Gin. Information to be given to Superintendent Egerton, County Hall, Birken- head, Cheshire.— Bow- street, May 29. Stolen from a dwelling- house in Ashton- under- Lyne ( by housebreaking) between 3 30 and 4' 30 p. m. on the 26th inst.: a black, cloth Coat, with pockets in left breast and on each hip ; a pair of black cloth Trousers ; a black clo'. h- Vest: a border ; a pair of women's paramatta Boots ; a pair of brown kid Gloves; a child's black velvet Frock, trimmed with back satin, and Polonaise, trimmed with bead trimming ; a ditto white Frock, with needlework ; a ditto Skirt; a ditto white Frock with Polonaise, trimmed with white braid ; a Scotch plaid Sash ; a gold Brooch, with brown stone; a black figured Brooch and Ear rings. Stolen from a field at St. George's, Gloucestershire, on the night of the 27th ultimo : a dark brown mare Pony, 4 years old, about 12J hands high, hog mane, short tail, has been lately clipped and knees broken, in good condition, the property of Robert Leonard, Butcher, West- street, Bristol. Information to be given to Inspector Bird, Police Station, St. George's, near Bristol.— Boie- slreet, June 2. SAMUEL SMITH ( advertised in the Police Gazette of the 24th ultimo as having stolen a Horse from Basingstoke) has been apprehended at Hampton. The other man described with him is still at large, and a wanant is issued for his apprehension : his name is EDWARD THOMAS, alias ROULAND, 28 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, brown hair, grey eyes, sallow complexion, cross on left arm, burn mark on right knee, right nostril and lip eaten away with c sneer, dark whiskers and moustache, and has & piece of flesh- coloured sticking paper on the bad part of his nose ; he is a gipsey hawker. He was liberated from Portland Convict Prison on the 9th March, 1876, where he served seven years penal servitude for Horse stealing ( see Police Gazette of March 10, 1876, under Habitual Crimiifels Liberated). £ 1 reward will be paid for the apprehension of this man. Stolen from a field at Rostherne, during the night of the 28th instant: a grey she Ass, aged, in good condition, a crack in one fore hoof, and without shoes, the property of Mr. Wm. Carter. £ 1 reward will be given for the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the Ass. Information to be given to Superintendent Aston, Altrincham, or to Sergeant Hollingworth, Lymm, or to P. C. Fowles, Rostherne, Cheshire.— Bow- street, May 31. Found at Shifnal on the 21st instant, and supposed to have been stolen : 2 bay Cart Horses, both about 15 to 16 hands high, one aged and has an enlarged knee on near leg, and is rather low'in the back ; the other, rising 5 years old, and has lost the shoe off the near hind foot. Description of HENRY CHARLES TEWKESBURY, a clerk, who absconded from Salisbury, on the 16th ultimo, charged on a warrant with stealing from his employers, £ VZ 10s., and other Monies : he is 17 years of age, 5feet 4or 5 inches nigh, dark brown bp, ir, grey eyes, remarkably square fiice, slight whiskers and moustache, - strongly made, walks very upright-, is a member of the 1st Wilts Rifle Corps; dressed in a dark blue morning coat, bound with black braid, dark mixture cloth vest and trousers, buttons marked ' Fleming, Salisbury,' black silk corded necktie, a small gold twisted pin, with a piece of red coral inserted ; and a low crowned black stiff felt hat. Stolen during the night of the 24th instant, from the premises of Henry Collins, at Downley, West Wycombe: a cross cut Saw ( since recovered.) also a hand Saw, nearly new, with the lower part of handle cut off. Absconded from Eastbourne on the 23rd instant, charged with stealing a silver Geneva Watch ( recovered), and 9s. 6d.: a woman, about 48 years of age, about 5 feet 3 inches high, fresh complexion, dark eyes, dark hair, inclined to curl, and medium figure ; dressed in black bonnet, trimmed with white flowers, black cloth jacket, black polonaise, grey drab mohair dress with one deep flounce, spring- side boots. Description of CHARLES WEBB, charged with steal- ing 19s.; the property of Mr. John Darrall, Cannock : he is 27 years of age, 6 feet high, slender build, whiskers shaved off, tuft of hair on chin, heavy black moustache, dark complexion, thin long face, black hair parted down the front, and walks erect, has been a soldier; dressed in moleskin trousers, short pilot jacket much worn, black billycock hat, and elastic- side boots. Information to be given to Superintendent Hill, Brownhills, near Walsall, or to Serjeant Evans, Cannock, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant tor his apprehension.— — Bow- stree/, May 29. Description of two men, charged, with stealing £ 7 10s. in'Gold and a silver Geneva Watch, metaldome. No. a LI33 : one 23 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, long features, wears a hard billycock hat. The other 20 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, round chubby features, wears an apron wrapped round his waist, and soft billycock hat, turned up at sides. They ware both dresssd in dark clothes, and had the appearance of curriers, mechanics, or shoe- rivetters. Information to be given to Superintendent Haigh. Police Office, Kidderminster, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, May 29. The fitter, described in the Police Gazette of the 24th instant, as having absconded from No. 2, Farnsbry- street, New Swindon, charged with larceny, has been apprehended, and the Property recovered. lie scutes his name is JAMES HARDING, and that he is a iia; >••' « of Manchester. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent North, Swindon, Wiltshire.— Bow- street, May 26. Charged on a warrant with stealing on the 20th March last, from Parkside Lunatic Asylum, a silver lever Watch ( recovered) : CHARLES E. M. MALTON, a clerk, was formerly employed at the Asylum, about 33 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, proportionate build, dark complexion, black hair, whiskers, moustache, and imperial, rather thick lips, of gentlemanly appearance and good address, and can speak several languages. And LILIAN, his wife, about 35 years of age, about 5 feet 3 inches high, sallow com- plexion, black " hair, rather wavy and tinged with grey ; she is a native of London, and has three children. Two Guineas reward will be paid on the apprehension of the nbove- uamed persons, and their photographs may be seen. Information to be given to Chief Constable Sheasby, Macclesfield, Cheshire.— Bow- streei, May 26. Absconded from Sheffield, stealing £ 60 which he was entrusted with to take to Midland Bank, Sheffield: WIL- LIAM BESLEY, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, slender build, dark complexion, dark brown hair, slight dark moustache, aud no whiskers; dressed in a light grey suit and hard felt hat.
