Absconded from Oldham, on the 13th instant, charged • with forgery : WILLIAM LAWSON, a coal merchant, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, sandy hair, fair complexion, round face, has a twist near end of nose, • which also has a slight blue mark across the bridge ; he is generally dressed in light tweed clothes. He is supposed to be endeavouring to leave the country, probably for Spain. C,' on face ; also a double- case gold Watch maker Weymark, Clerkenwell, a gold albert Chain, with rjght cheek, small whiskers, beard,' and moustache, and wore tache, slight made, and round shouldered ; had the appear- ance of a waiter; dressed in a dark speckled suit, and round hat or black cap. Stolen by means of house- breaking from a dwelling- house in Ashton- under- Lyne, between 9 a. m. and 6 p. m. on the 22nd instant: an English patent lever silver Watch, No. 14611, had a plated albert Chain with Locket attached ; a black cloth Coat, with pockets in the skirt behind, and one in left breast; a black cloth double- breasted Vest; a pair of black cloth Trousers, fly fronts, lined with twilled calico ; a pair of grey mixture Trousers, with black braid stripe down each side ; a pair of elastic- side Boots, patent leather fronts; a brown cloth Overcoat, with velvet collar, lined with peach plaid ; a suit of boy's black Clothes, new; two white cotton Shirts, with linen fronts and wristbands, one without a collar ; a blue silk Skirt, trimmed with blue velvet round bottom, lined with slate coloured calico; a black sateen Bodice and Tunic, trimmed with same material, blask buttons, and crape in front; a yellow printed Skirt, with flounce round the bottom ; a woollen Shawl, grey bottom, and orange and red stripes ; a dark brown Dress, with three rows of puffings round the skirt; a lady's black cloth tight Jacket, with bead ornament behind, and Tippet, with bead and silk trimming; a lady's black velvet Jacket, trimmed with brown fur ; a Ruffle, blue ribbon and white lace ; a pink ditto; a white woollen knitted Sliawl, with aiarone border ; a pair of women's paramatta Boots ; a pair of brown kid Gloves; a child's black velvet Frock, trimmed with back satin, and Polonaise, trimmed with bead trimming ; a ditto white JTrock, with needlework ; a ditto Skirt; a ditto white Frock with Polonaise, trimmed with white braid ; a Scotch plaid Sash ; a gold Brooch, with brown stone; a black figured Brooch and Ear- rings. Between 10 and 11 a. m- on the 18th instant, the dwelling- house of Arthur Oakley, of Whoreston, in the parish of Shareshill, was broken and entered, and stolen therein: ,£ 12 in Gold, and a silver verge Watch, No. 165, no glass ; also a silver verge Watch, steel Chain attached. Supposed by two tramps : one about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, and small light moustache ; dressed in short pilot jacket, and black billycock hat. The other about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, old cut mark across the 8th instant): about 33 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, light complexion, brown hair, high cheek bones, tuft of hair on his chin, walks erectly, and draws his lips together peculiarly when talking ; dressed in a dark mixture cutaway coat and vast, light cord trousers, and hard round black hat. Has recently been engaged at Hanley driving a furniture van, where he stated he had also been employed as a coach- man. Further information respecting JOHN BOWKER, alias WONZER, charged with larceny from the person, aa HOUSE! AMB CATTX. SS STEALING. Found at Shifnal on the 21st instant, and supposed to have been stolen : 2 bay Cart Horses, both about 15 to 16 hands high, one aged and has an enlarged knee on near leg, and is rather low in the back ; the other, rising 5 years old, and has lost the shoe off the near hind foot. Information to be given Deputy Chief Constable Ivins, Wellington, or to Sergeant Meredith, Shifna), Salop.— Bow- street, May 26. The horse advertised in the Police Gazette of the 19th instant, as stolen from Basingstoke, has been recovered ( having been sold at Chobham, Surrey), and warrants are issued for the apprehension of the following two men charged with stealing the same : SAMUEL SMITH, a gipsey, commonly called SAMMY, about 27 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, light hair, brown complexion, and very few whiskers, shaves the lower part of face, has a little hair on the upper lip, and a tuft of hair on the cheek bones, stutters when talking : dressed in brown coat, tight- fitting cord trousers, and cap with button on the top. He married a woman named AYRES, who was killed on the line near Brookwood, Surrey, about a year ago, whilst he was waiting his trial for a robbery at Goodwood Races. And another man, about 40 yesra of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, rather thin built, little brown whiskers, has lost part of his nose, appears to have had a cancer taken out of the upper lip, from which hangs a piece of loose flesh ; dressed in black or dark coat, and a high black hat. Both men attend races, fairs, and clubs with cocoa nuts, & c. Absconded from Silverdale, on the 16th instant, charged with stealing £ 103. the monies of the Silverdale Free Church Sunday School Clothing Fund: WILSON HODSON VICKERS, between 28 and 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, middle size, dark brown hair, sandy whiskers, and sallow complexion ; supposed to be dressed in black clothes, a& d soft felt hat ; he is a butcher, and a native of Silverdale. Absconded on the 20th instant, from 35, Praed street, Paddington, stealing £ 11 6s. 9d. : a woman, 23 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, very light brown hair, grey eyes, full face, low forehead, and thick lips ; dressed in black guilted petticoat, black tablier bound with black ribbon, and trimmed with black lace, check bodice, bound with black velvet, black cloth jacket, trimmed with imitation fur and braid, white straw bat, trimmed with brown and yellow ribbon, and brown feathers.— Metropolitan Police, X Division, May 24. Absconded from Coventry on the morning of the 20th instant, CHARLES MIDDLEBROOK, a professional rink skater, charged with stealing £ 14 18s., the monies of his employers, the Proprietors of the Coventry Skating Rink, and also with stealing from Mr. S. corbett, watch manufac- tarer, a new silver English lever watch, engine- turned cases, open face, white enamel dial, capped, No. 5075, and no maker's name : he is from 30 to 35 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, slight straight figure, square shoulders, thin face, dark complexion, to beard, very slight dark moustache, dark short hair, unusually brown piercing eyes, and of gentlemanly appearance; diesses generally in tweed suits, scarf with pin dotted with turquoise, and black bard billycock hat, occa- sionally wears a sealskin turban and gold keeper ring on little finger ; he has a peculiar accent, and a habit of licking his lips. He is accompanied by a man said be his brother. Information to bs given to the Head Constable Norris, Police Office, Coventry, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, May 24. Stolen on the 20th instant, from a carpenter's bench : two small Planes, one has brass sides and is about five inches long, and both are marked ' Badger' and ' J. Robinson.' By a tramping whitesmith and bellhanger, 26 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, thin face, and small moustache ; dressed in a mixture cloth coat, dark trousers, and new black stiff low- crowned hat. There is a pocket on the hind part of his trousers in which he may carry the Planes. Information to be given to Superintendent Sharpe, Borough Police, Wisbech, Isle of Ely, Cambridgeshire.— Bow- street, May 24. Absconded on the 21st instant, charged on a warrant with stealing £ 3 15s., the monies of Levi Higginson : WIL- LIAM HAYWOOD, about 23 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, stout build, stoops a little, short neck, very brown face, whiskers beginning to grow, no moustache, and brown hair cut short; dressed in corduroy trousers, brown or green ribbed jacket, red and black plaid scarf, and light grey cap with peak of same material; he is a labourer on railways, and a native of Milford, Derbyshire. Information to be given to Inspector Hackney, Guildhall, Stafford.—- Bow- street, May 24. Description of Corporal JAMES MASTERS, No. 9003, Royal Engineers, Instructor 1st Newcastle Engineer Vols., who has absconded from Newcastle- on- Tyne : 34j years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, two vaccination marks right arm, scar right forearm from a burn ; dressed in dark tweed suit, felt hat; he enlisted 14th November, 1886, and deserted 15th May, 1876. He is supposed to have left Newcastle- on- Tyne with a woman on the 15th instant, at 11' 20 p. m. per rail for London. He took with him £ 69 belonging to a betting man in Newcastle, and it is supposed that he will have above £ 100 in cash upon him, and endeavour to go to America. His wife is living at North Front, Kingston, Southampton. Information to be given to Captaiu and Adjutant Tremble, 1st A. B., Durham Engineer Volunteers, Newcastle- on- Tyne.— Bow- st., May 24. WILLIAM PARKHOUSE, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 19ch ultimo, has been apprehended at Worcester, and committed for trial at the next quarter sessions for Devon, on the 27th proximo. Information to be given to Superintendent Collins, Culbmpton, Devon.— Bow- street, May 24. Absconded on the 10th instant, from 39, St. John's- road, Hoxton, embezzling £ 40 5s. : a man, 42 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, blotched face, hair, whiskers, and moustache fair; dress, brown overcoat, velvet collar, dark mixture trousers, high black hat.— Metropolitan Police, N Division, May 22. Description of JOHN HARPER, charged on a warrant with stealing, on the 20th ultimo, from the North Stafford Hotel, Stoke- on- Trent —. six gold Shirt Studs and two Sets of gold Sleeve Links; the property of Charles John Webb : 25 years ef age, looks older, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, proportionately built, light complexion, light brown hair, light moustache, no whiskers, brown eyes, long thin face, high cheek bones, and Roman nose. He will probably try to obtain a situation as foreman in some large town. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Longden, Police Office, Stoke- on- Trent, Staffordshire.— Bow- st., May 22. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Farnworth, near Bolton- le- Moors, Lancashire, between 6 a. m. the 5th and 1 p. m. the 6th instant: a tweed Jacket, two pockets outside and one inside left breast, with two bone buttons oa each sleeve ; a tweed Vest with three pockets outside, and one re4 and white striped cotton Shirt By a man who lodged in the house for a few nights. He is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 1 ineh high, dark complexion, brown hair, no whiskers, and slight moustache, and is a stripper and grinder ; dressed in tweed jacket, moleskin trousers, cloth cap, and clogs. Also stolen from a back yard, at Farnworth, on the 4th instant : two white flowered linen Table Cloths, three white Pocket Handkerchiefs, a Bolster Slip, two Pillow Slips, a white muslin Apron, a child's Chemise, and a white cotton window Blind, torn at the top, all in a wet state, and a sweeping Brush, marked ' Kelly.'
