Stolen from the person of a gentleman at the Steeple Chases, Packington, on the 8th instant: a gold lever Watch, supposed No. 1865, has a gold radiated dial, and large black hands. He walked rather lame. £ 100 reward will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person or persons who will give such information as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers; and Mr. Secretary Cross will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to the like result ; and the Mayor and Members of the Corporation of the said borough will give a further reward of £ 100 to any such person or persons who shall give such information and evidence as aforesaid. Stolen from the person of a gentleman at the steeple- chase, Packington. on the 8fch instant: an Eaglish silver lever Watch, capped and jewelled in six holes, white enamelled dial, black hands and sunk seconds; maker's name ' Brown, Moate- street, Coventry,' and ' B. Bennett' engraved on inside of case. Information to be given to Superintendent Gallaway, Constabulary Office, Aston, near Birmingham, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, April 13. Snolen on the 6th instant-, on the Race Corse, Daventry from the person of Mr. Bagg, Surgeon, of Priors Marston : a silver lever Watch, gold albert Guard attached, maker . Nathaniel Hedges, Birmingham. And from the person, of Joseph Wright of EVerdon : the 5.25 train on the 8th. inst. A reward of £ 2 is offered for his apprehension. Information to be given to Chief Constable Bond, Cardiff, Glamorganshire.— Bow- street, April 13. The Horse, Harness, aud Cart stolen from Hitchin, as advertised in the Police Gazette of the 3rd instant, have been recovered at the ' Nag's Head' public- house, Wellington- street, Borough, and £ 1 reward is offered for information that will lead to the apprehension of JOHN, alias PERCY MOORE, who is charged on a warrant with stealing the same : 25 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair, and no whiskers ; dressed in dark clothes. He has lived at Augustus- terrace, Landsdown- road, Clapham- road. ^ Infor- mation to be given to Inspector Young, Police Station, Hitchin, Herts,— Bow- street, April 10. Stolen on the night of tha 7th July, 1875, from a field in Spit- lane, South Weald, the property of Mr. James Manning : a bay nag Mare, 8 years old, 16 hands high, small white mark on near fore leg, above the knee, black mane- and tail, chipped knees, wart on inside of off hied quarter, and near hind fetlock a little swollen; the mare was supposed to have been in foal when stolen, and may possibly be traced by her foal. A reward of £ 10 will be paid by the owner, on recovery of the mare, and conviction of the offender or offenders. He came from Philadelphia, ipici Liverpool, seven months since, and has a relative, a watchmaker, in Guest- street, Hockley, Birmingham ; he also has friends at Tipton and Tunstall. Absconded from Dudley, on the 26th ultimo, charged ^ rith embezzling 3s. 6d., the monies of the Dudley Colliery Company, Limited : MOSES GREGORY, machine clerk, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark com- plexion, black whiskers and moustache, low forehead, and has lost his right kg ; dressed in black cloth suit of clothes, and a rottnd" hard billy hat. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Burton, Borough Police Office, Dudley, Woicestershire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, April 7. FELONIES. Absconded from Minchinhampton, Gloustershire, on the 1st instant, charged with counselling and procuring Mary Ann Rose to administer poison to her illegitimate child at Minchinhampton on the 31stult. : CAROLINE GRANT, about 17 years of age, about 6 feet high, black hair, dark complexion, very thick lips, and cut mark down the forehead ; dressed in old light print dress with large flounce, old brown jacket, old black hat trimmed with black and scarlet ribbon, old lace- up boots with patches on sides ; carried an old light shawl ; she is a native of Tetbury, Gloustershire. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Hanbridge, Stroud, Gloucestershire, who holds a warrant for her apprehension.— Bow- street, April 12. Description of GEORGE SCARRATT, charged on the 3rd ultimo, at Tewkesbury, with receiving Hay, knowing it to have been stolen : he is about 50 years of age, 6 feet high, dark complexion, dark brown hair and whiakers ; generally dressed in a long dark coat, much worn, soft bowler hat, velveteen waistcoat, and corduroy trousers. He travels about the country with a pony and cart hawking earthenware. He is supposed to be in the pottery districts, Staffordshire, and is well known about Witney and Wychwood Forest, Oxford- shire. Information to be given to Sergeant Whitman, Tewkesbury, Gloucester, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, April 5. about 100 Cheques, the last number used was 22673. He | has given the names of Captain JAMES A. HAMMOND, ship ' Condor,' Victoria Docks, and Captain . T. W. MARS- DEN, ship 1 Antelope' ( both false), 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion, black hair, moustache, and whiskers, dark eyes, and has the appearance of a ship's captain; dressed in dark suit, and fur cap. Information to be given to Superintendent Williamson, Detective Depart- ment, Great Scotland Yard, London, S. W.— Bovo- street, April 5, FEAHIte AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Absconded from Stafford on the 1st instant, charged with stealing ( as a bailee): a pair of black cloth Trousers and Vest ( recovered) : the property of Mr. Dunn, his employer: JOHN GLASBROOK, a tailor, about 24 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, light brown hair, slender build, rather high cheek bones, and a native of Evesham; dressed in a light grey tweed jacket, dark grey trousers, and light mixture soft billycock hat. Is of drunken habits. He left Walsall for Birmingham on the 4th instant, and is supposed to be in the neighbourhood of Deritend. Information to be given to Inspector Hackney, Guild Hall, Stafford, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 13. Further information respecting WILLIAM GRIFFIS, alias GEORGE WOOD, described in the Police Gazette of the 31st December and 5th January last; charged with obtaining Money by fraud from Lloyd's Bank, Stafford. On the 23id ultimo he was in custody at Liverpool, in the name of DAVID ROBERTS, charged with obtaining a Bill of Exchange by fraud. He was discharged, and nothing has since been heard of him. It is supposed he is in some large town in the Northern Counties. The reward of £ 5 for his apprehension is still offered. Information to be given to Inspector Hackney, Guild Hall, Stafford, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Apt • il 13. Absconded from 301, Strand, charged with having obtained on 5th November last, £ 50 by Mse pretences : GEORGE REID, 45 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, hair and beard turning grey, small scar on back of neck, and round shoulders; dressed generally in dark clothes, and high hat, of respectable appearance. He is supposed to have been convicted in 1868 or 1869, and was sentenced to 5 years penal servitude. Warrant issued. •— Metropolitan Police, E Division, April 12. Description of SAMUEL NEWMAN, charged with obtaining several sums of money by false pretences, and who absconded from Great Bridge, Tipton, about the 3rd ult. : about 40 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, light complexion, fair hair, no beard, large nose, several blue marks on the face, stout build; he is a collier, and was at the time he absconded one of the local secretaries of the West Bromwich district of the Amalgamated Association of Miners; he is fond very of betting, speaks with a loud voice, and generally carries his hands in his trousers pockets. Information to be given to Superintendent Holland, Police Office, Wednesbury, Stafford- shire, who holds a wurrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 10. Absconded, charged with obtaining by false pretences, on the 1st December last,, the sum of ,£ 350 : THOMAS SIDNEY BIRDIE RAVEN, late of 148, Strand, 34 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion, brown hair and whiskers ; dressed respectable, and of gentlemanly appear- ance. Warrant issued.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, April 7 Description of a mau, charged with obtaining £ 5 12s., at the Spread Eagle Inn, Nottingham, where he was staying, by a cheque on Godfrey's and Riddels Bank, Newark, where he had no account. A lawyer's black leather Bag was stolen from the 1st class waiting room, at the Midland Railway Station, in Nottingham, on the 24th ultimo, containing a cheque Book and several Briefs, one being Taylor v. Taylor, marked Newton, solicitors, Newark ; the cheque in question was taken from the book, which was in the bag stolen, and belonging to Mr, Newton, solicitor, of Newark. He said he was a solicitor, and endorsed the cheque ' WILLIAM WARNER, 18, Union- street, Birmingham': he is 35 to 40 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, sallow complexion, black whiskers and moustache, shaves on chin; he is supposed to be following the circuit, and will probably put off more of the cheques. Information to be given to Chief Constable Poyntz, Nottingham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 7. Description of a man who is obtaining Goods from • watchmakers, jewellers, and others, by means of false cheques on the London and Westminster Bank, St James's Branch. It is believed he has in his possession a book containing MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATIONS. Description of THOMAS WICKHAM, charged on Remand with Dogstealing from Aslackby until the 20th instant: 49 years of age, a sailor in coasting vessels from London to Hull, Grimsby & c. : 5 feet 2| inches high, fresh complexion, grey eyes, brown hair, oval face, a scar on bridge of nose, one upon right eye brow, ona over left eye, and two upon the back of head.
