C. *„* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information shou'd be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any aiticle in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the ' Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 end 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS. MURBEE AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Description of SAMUEL PUGH, charged with stabbing John Raybould, on the 29 th ultimo, at Lye Waste : he is about 43 yeais of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, brown hair and whiskers, strong moustache, a powerful made man, stoops a little when walking, a native of Lye Waste, where his wife and children are now residing, a blacksmith and vice maker by trade, and recently worked at Brettle- lane, Staffordshire ; dressed in a light- coloured speckled jacket, dark moleskin trousers and vest, and an old round topped hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Freeman, Stourbridge, Wor cestershire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- • street, February 2. Further information respecting the dead body of a newly born male child, found in a field adjoining the towing path of the Grand Junction Canal, at Water Eton, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 28th ult. : SARAH GARNER, of Braunston, a boatwoman, is committed for trial at the Lent Assizes, on the charge of wilfully murdering of the said • child. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Aylesbury, or to Superintendent Hedley, Police Office, Fenny Stratford, Bucks.— Bow- street, January 31. On the 24th instant, the body of a newly born male child was found in a manure heap, near the Railway Station, Tewkesbury, with a piece of calico tied twice round the neck, the body was wrapped in a part of a female's night dress, the outside wrapper being a large peice of light glazed paper, 4 feet by 3 feet 3 inches, and figures upon it, such as are used in draper's shops. At the coroner's inquest, a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown' was returned. Information to be given to Superintendent Day, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, January 28. On the morning of the 21st instant, the Body of a newly- born male Infant, was found wrapped in brown paper, in Sinnock's- square, Hastings. At the coroner's inquest, a verdict of 1 Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown,' was returned. Charged on a warrant with forgery : HUBERT NEW- TON, 23 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark brown hair, pale complexion, thin fa? e, and slight moustache; dressed in light tweed suit, and dark ulster coat, usually wears a sealskin cap. Lately resided at 104, Lancaster- road, Notting- hill, is well known at Ladbrooke road, and may visit at 104, Tufnell Park- road. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- street, February 2. Description of WILLIAM LEEK, who is charged on a warrant with forging Bills of Exchange to the value of £ 75, at Harrogate, on the 15th and 25th November last, and who absconded from Harrogate, on the 10th instant : 32 years of age, 5 feet 5i inches high, dark complexion, sup- posed grey eyes, long wavey black hair, slightly streaked with grey, thin black, whiskers, moustache, and beard, a • whitesmith, last resided at Harrogate, of imperfect education, long face, high cheek bones, round shouldered, and walks with his head hanging down ; dressed in black serge cloth coat, with two pockets outside, fancy cloth double- breasted vest, black ground with purple diamond spots, chocolate or shaded brown trousers, black silk necktie, soft black billy- cock hat, and lace- up boots. He frequents theatres, music halls, negro entertainments, & s. A reward of £ 5 will be paid for his apprehension. Information to be given to Superintendent Carr, North Riding Constabulary, Knares- borough.— Bow- slreet, January 24, ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of Thomas Prestwood, in Wellington, Salop, on the 17th ultimo : a gold lever Watch, No. 70982, maker's initials ' A. Y.' inside the outer case. Information to be given to Superintendent Ivins, Wellington, Salop.— Bou- nreet, February 2. Stolen from the person of Mr. Lockhart M. St. Clair, on the racecourse at the Windsor Steeplechases, on the 26th instant: a silver- case engine- turned hunting Watch, maker Bennett, London, No. 16886, lias a small opening in front case showing the dial, the cases are inlaid with black, and there is a small space for initials surrounded by a black gaiter. From the person of Mr. A. Sutherland, at the Windsor Steeplechases, on the 26th inst. : an open face silver Watch. Also on the 27th instant, at the Windsor Steeplechases : from the person of Mr. Augustus Clarkson, a gold diamond Scarf Pin. Iuformation to be given to Superintendent Iremonger, Berks Constabulary, Maidenhead. - Bow- street, January 31. Stolen from the person of Joseph Gittins, on the highway near Wellington, about IG' 45 p. m. on 29th instant: a patent lever silver Watuh, jewelled in ten holes, maker Shaw, Leicester, a silver Guard, and a strong leather clasp Purse, much worn, containing 10s. in Gold, 7s. 6d. in Silver, 4| d. in Coppers, and an old Russian Silver Coin. By two men : one tall, very dark complexion, dark whiskers, and dressed in dark clothes : the other short, and dressed in light clothes. Stolen from different persons in Bolton on the 1st iust : 1 silver English lever Watch, No. 20249, with engine- turned cases. On the 12tli instant: a gold Scarf Pin, in the form of a greyhound's head. On the 14th instant : 1 silver lever Watch, No. 6016, with engine- turned cases and plain seconds. On the 22nd instant : 1 silver lever Watsh, No. 3353, with the name of ' Robt. Ratcliffe' engraved on the outside case ; and a silver lever Watch, No. 41519. maker's name • J. J. Hargraves, 108, Bold- street, Liverpool.' Or. the 21st instant : a silver Geneva Watch, No. 38C34, or 5434. Stolen from the person of Elijah Atkins, at Hands- worth, about 10' 30 p. m. on the 21st instant: a gold keyless open- face Watch, chronometer balance, jewelled throughout, engine- turned case, white dial, has 1 E. A.' engraved on the back, No. 30904. A reward of £ 5 will be paid by the owner on recovery of the Watch and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Sergeant Steele, Police Station, Handsworth, near Birmingham, Warwick- shire.— Brno street, January 26. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Description of JOSEPH HENDERSON, charged with burglary at the ' Bull's Head' inn, Plumpton, on the 27th ultimo : the Property stolen has been recovered. He is about 22 years of age, 5 feet 11 inche.- i high, proportionate figure, long face, no whiskers or moustache, dark hair, and of slovenly appearance; he is a farm servant, and was recently discharged from Carlisle Gaol after 2 months imprisonment for larceny. It is probable that he may enlist into the Army. Information to be given to Superintendent Fowler, Penrith, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumber- land.— Bow- street, February 4. Charged with housebreaking, and stealing silver Plate, recovered, from Tollcross House, near Glasgow, on the morning of the 7th ultimo: EDWARD HEDDLE, a labourer, 48 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, black curly hair, turning grey, beard all round chin, face freckled, straight sharp nose, thin features, glazed watery eyes of a blueish grey, round shoulders, walks with head forward as if he had tender feet, and has a scar of old sore on side of neck; dressed in a blue cloth nap monkey jacket, much faded, buttoned close up t, o the neck, slate- coloured cloth trousers, worn, dirty, and faded, elastic- side boots, without seam in front or toec- aps, hard felt jerry hat, sometimes wears a dark coloured cloth cap, with peak of same cloth, hooked in front, mauve and white checked cloth scarf, and a mixed- coloured woollen muffler. Information to be given to Chief Constable M'Hardy, Lanarkshire, or to Superintendent Cornelly, County Buildings, Glasgow.— Bow- street, February 2. Between 12 midnight and 6 a. m. on the 29th instant, the office at the North Hants Iron Foundry, Basingstoke, was broken ana entered and stolen therein : £% worth of Postage and Receipt Stamps, a few Cigars'; an old brown Coat, split under left arm; and a very old sacking Slop, very ragged under left arm. Also stolen about the same time, 3s. 3d. in Copper, and 6s. in Postage Stamps from the Goods Office of the London and South Western Railway Station, by breaking and entering the same. Supposed by a tramp who slept at a common iodging- house in Basingstoke the two nights pre- vious ; rather decently dressed in high black felt hat, black cloth coat with pockets at sides, dark trousers, and sidespring boots; about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, rather full face, brown whiskers and hair, cut rather short behind, no moustache, clean chin, and of rather square build. He sells dressing combs, which he carries in a black leather case. Information to be given to Head Constable Hibberd, Basing- stoke, Hants.— Bow- street, January 31. Between 10 p. m. on the 27th and 6 a. m. on the 28th inst., the Bull's Head Inn, Plumpton, near Penrith, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a single- breasted grey witney Overcoat, about half worn, faded black velvet collar, grey winsey lining, and black wood buttons ; 2/?. 4d. Silver and 5s. in Copper. Supposed by a tramp. Information to be given to Superintendent Fowler, Penrith, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, January 31. Stolen on the 20th instant, by means of house- breaking, at Ditcheat: a black cloth frock Coat, new, with black striped lining ; a new pair of black cloth Trousers, with a small darn in one leg, close below the knee near the seam ; a best black Jacket and Yest; a black bowler Hat; a cashmere Shawl, white, intermixed with other colours, with white fringe and border; and a Church Service, with ' Jane Channing' written in it. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Bisgood, Glastonbury, or to Sergeant Williams, Shepton Mallet, Somersetshire. — Bow- sireet, January 26. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING: Stolen between 8 and 9 p. m. on the 29th ultimo, from outside the Royal Oak public- house, High- street, Redhill: a Horse and Cart; the horse of a dun colour, aged, about 14 hands high, forelegs a little bent; the cart is a coster- monger's, with a ladder in front, ' McCarthy, Fruiterer and Greengrocer,' painted on the front, the cart painted chocolate colour. Supposed by a mau about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, and his nose a little bent on one side; he is a stableman. Information to be given to Head Constable Rogers, Redhill, Surrey.— Boa- street, February 4, Supposed stolen about six weeks or two months since, from I he. Forest of Dartmoor : a dark bay mare Pony, coming 3 years old, about 12 hands high, a hole punched in off ear, bianded with letter ' H' on the off side of the neck, and the tip of tail cut off; the property of Mr. H. Harvey, South Tawton. This Pony is supposed to have been seen in the neighbourhood of Bradstone near Tavistock. Whoever will give such information as will lead to the recovery of the Pony, shall receive £ 1 reward. Information to be given to the Owner, or to Police Constable Samson, South Tawton, Devonshire.— Bow- str eel, January 30. Stolen from a field at Kinley, on the 22nd instant: three cross- bred tup Lamb?, between the Shropshire Southdown and Welsh, white faces and long tails ; the property of - Thos. Jervis. Information to be given to Chief SuperittJejSdent Ivins, Wellington, or to Sergeant Merricks, Oaken Gates, Salop.— Bow- street, Janua'y 28. Description of R. P. G. LORD, charged with horse steal- ing : 25 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, sallow complexion, black hair, slight black whiskers and moustache, and of gen- tlemanly appearance ; is a veterinary surgeon and horse dealer, and was formerly in bussiness at Jermyn- street, Hay- market, and White Horse- street, Piccadilly. Information to be given to Superintendent Williamson, Detective Depart- ment, Great Scotland- yard, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Metropolitan Police, A Division, Jan. 26. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded from the Working Boy's Home, in the city of Hereford, on the 18th ultimo, charged with stealing a pair of black cord Trousers, cord Vest, with sleeves, striped Shirt, marked ' W. B. Home,' green Scarf, and Scotch Cap : a boy, 12 years of age, 4 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, dark hair, and very dark eye3, has an impediment in his speech ; he is wearing the above things, and is likely to be found at Railway Stations, carrying parcels for passengers. Information to be given to Head Constable Davies, Hereford. — Bow- street, February 4. Charged ( on a warrant) with larceny as a bailee at York: GEO. WILSON, a working jeweller, native of Edinburgh, 30 to 33 yrs. of age, 5 ft. 9 or 10 ins. high, dark complexion, eyes, and eyebrows, laige prominent forehead, black moustache and hair, rather frizzy, no whiskers, and is lame, which he states was caused by having been thrown out of a conveyance at Musselburgh Races about 18 months ago ; dressed in a brown or grey mixture suit and bkek billycock hat. Information to be given to Chief Constable Haley, York.— Bow- street, February 4. Description of THOS. ROBINSON, fishing apprentice, charged with stealing on the 29th ultimo, a Sovereign, the property of his master, at Clee : he is about 16 years of age, : 5 feet high, dark complexion, rather high cheek- bones, a front | tooth broken, hair cut short, he having been discharged from Lindsey Prison, on the 26th ultimo; dressed in blue cloth jacket, velvet collar, brass buttons, on which is an anchor, : blue guernsey frock, blue pilot trousers, light- coloured striped | woollen shirt, white muffler, a dog or fox head in corners, ' seal- skin cap, and elastic- side boots ; his mother resides at Engine Brow, Pendlebury, near Manchester. Information to be given to Superintendent Gregg, Great Grimsby, Lincoln 32 POLICE GAZE T T E. February 4 shire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 4. Description of a youth named GEORGE CRADDOCK, a clerk, who has absconded from Northampton, charged with stealing a Cheque for £ 23 17s. 6d. and £ 2 9s. 6d. in Gold and Silver ; the property of his employer, Henry Mulliner, coach builder, Northampton, on the 31st ultimo : he is about 18 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches higb, fresh complexion, no whiskers or moustache, and dark brown hair ; dressed in a black billycock hat, dark cloth jacket, vest, and trousers, and long dark overcoat. Is fond of being in the company of betting men and prostitutes. The cheque was tendered at the Northampton Union Bank on the 2nd inst. and detained, the person who tendered it making his escape. Information to be given to Chief Constable Keenan, Northampton, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Feb. 4. _ Description of CHARLES COLLINS, a surgeon's assistant, charged with embezzlement : about 25 yeara of age ( looks older), short and stout, dark complexion: and bair, generally dressed in a black cloth suit; of gentlenifelf address. Is well known at the West End of London and at Chelsea, and is likely to seek employment at some surgery. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Noakes, Police Station, Ashford, Kent, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— — Bow- street, February 4. Stolen on the 26th ultimo, from a back bed- room, at No. 26, Devonshire- place, Eastbourne : a silver English lever hunting Watch, engine- turned case, has ' G. R.' engraved in centre of outer case, capped and jewelled in two holes, maker Edward Winder, Eastbourne, IS o. 84240, had an imitation gold albert Chain attached ; a lady's gold half - hunting Geneva Watch, No. 124523 inside of case, and ' A. 72' maiked inside of dome, had an imitation gold Chain attached, with a small whistle and other trinkets at the end. Supposed by a man about 45 years of age, about 5 feet 11 inches high, dark complexion, full face, brown hair and whiskers, and rather stout figure; dressed in a long dark cloth paletot overcoat, billy coat hat, and old boots, much worn at heels. Information to be given to Superintendent Newnham, East- bourne, Sussex.— Bow street, February 4. Absoonded from Shrewsbury, on the 24th ultimo, charged with stealing eight pairs of men's elastic- side Boots ; a pair of men's leather Slippers ; five pairs of boy's elastic- side Boots; six pairs of ladies' elastic- side Boots ; a pair of girl's button Boots ; eight pairs of girl's elastic- side Boots: JAMES BROUGH, about 60 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, light complexion, wrinkled face, cheek bones rather prominent, grey hair, feeble looking, and slender built; wore a thick muffler, tied round lowar part of face, black silk hat, with broad brim and worn very low on fore- head, long black coat, and dark trousers. He is supposed to be the same man advertised in the Police Gazette of the 12th ultimo, at Chester. Information to be given to Head Constable Davies, Shrewsbury, Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow street, February 2. Stolen from the Pelsall Forge, about 12- 30 a. m. oil the 31st ultimo : a new leather Band, 30 feet long and 3J inches wide, copper rivetted and stitched about every 4 feet. By a man, 30 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, and wore a soft billycock hat. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Hill, Brownhills, or to Sergeant Arnold, Rushall . near Walsall, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, February 2. Absconded on the 5th instant, from Blackfriars- road, embezzling £ 10 : a man 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fresh complexion, dark hair and whiskers ( curly), and rather bow- legged ; dressed in black cloth shooting coat, light trousers, and high black hat.— Metropolitan Police, M. Division, January 31. Absconded on the 25th instant, from Essex- road, Isling- ton, embezzling £ 6 : a man, 28 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, swarthy complexion, and brown hair and moustache ; dressed in dark clothes, high hat, and is a baker.— Metropo- litan Pclice, N Division, January 31. Description of CHARLES FARLEY, late a clerk in the employment of Pickford and Co., at Truro, who is charged with embezzling several sums of Money : he is about 18 or 19 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, light complexion and hair, no whiskers, very slight moustache, tolerably upright, but not very smart nor active ; dressed in dark clothes, pilot cloth overcoat, and deerstalker hat; he is a native of Truro, which place he left on the 20th instant. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Angel, Borough Police Station, Truro, Cornwall, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 31. Stolen on the 27th instant, from a dwelling- house at Old Brompton, Chatham : a lady's small open- face silver Watch, with white flowered dial, and hair Guard attached; a double- breasted black cloth Vest; a striped linen Shirt; a pair of men's elastic- side Shoes; a hard felt Hat; and a white silk Handkerchief. By a soldier belonging to the 106th Regiment, who was on furlough, and had been staying at the house, about 24 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown naif, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in fine blue cloth monkey jacket, blue cloth trousers, and the stolen shoes, shirt, vest, and hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Coppinger, Kent Constabulary, Chatham.— Bmc- street, January 31. Description* of WILLIAM COMER, a labourer, of Southmolton, a convict licence holder, charged on a warrant with stealing, on the 27th instant, two Coats, two pair of Trousers, and a Waistcoat - ( since recovered), at Warkleigh, Devon : he is 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, dark brown whiskers, banners of war, a heart, anchor, cross and wreath on left arm, and a crucifix and seaman on right arm ; dressed in a dark mohkey jacket and waistcoat, cord trousers, navvy boots, and billy- cock hat. He is supposed to be working his way to Middles- brough- on- Tees, or trying to obtain a ship. Information to be given to Superintendent wood, B Division, Devon Con- stabulary, South Molton, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- ttreet, January 31. Stolen on the 24th instant, from a dwelling- house in Gloucester- street, Farringdon: a black leather Bag, containing ten pairs of dentist's Forceps, Scalers, Stoppers, gold Stopping, model Trays, composition hand Glass, and Teeth, the Property of Mr. Butler, dentist. Absconded on the 25th instant, from Sun- street, Shore- ditch, stealing £ 35 : a man, 31 years of age, 6 feet high, dark complexion and hair, beard on chin and moustache dark brown ; dressed in dark check pattern shooting jacket, blue Scotch cap with peak, is a porter, and formerly a private in the 69th Foot.— Metropolitan Police, G Division, January 28. Stolen on the 21st instant, from 5, Kensington Gore : a gold Chatelaine, ornamented with diamonds and pearls. By a woman, 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and eye3; dressed in black jacket and bonngt, and side - spring- boots.— Metropolitan Police, B Dwmon, Jcnrudry Z8. Stolen frcm a vessel in the harbour of Berwick- on- Tweed, on the 24th instant: a dark blue shooting Coat, with velvet collar, half w; orn. Supposed ^> y a youth, about 16 yrs. of age, broati red face, ana reddish hair; dressedMn gutta percha waterproof coat, dirty coloured trousers, lace- up boots, wideawake hat, and leather leggings; carried a print bag] with some clothes in it, and is of dirty appearance. He left Berwick- on- Tweed early on the 24th instant, and is sup- posed to have gone South. Stolen from the quartermaster's stores, Maidstone Barracks, sometime during the night of the 22nd instant: a plaid Coat and Vest; a blue serge Waistcoat and pair of Trousers; an old black Suit, much worn ; a brown shooting Suit, little worn, by carrying a gun on the shoulder ; an old black shooting Suit, much worn ; several pairs of Socks; the contests of a Mappin's Dressing- case, Razors, Brushes, & c. ( ivory) ; a pair of lace shooting Boots; a pair of military spring- side'Boots, new ; two odd Boots, one worn, one nearly i? ew, spring sides; two pairs of patent leather Boots, worn; Drawers, Night Shirts, aild Guernseys ; two military flannel Shirts ; the property of Captain Safford, 97th Regiment of Foot.
