INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING, About 9.20 p. m., on the 24th instant, the Dead Body of a Female Child was found in a thoroughfare in the boiougli of Uc'tou, wrapped in two hand- towels and a piece of brown paper. Xbe towel which was next to the body ia a little marked with blood, made of ' nap' or ' Russian' towelling, very far worn, size 28 by 21 inches, has a red stripe and tape- like border at each end, and the border about three- quarters of an inch wide. The other towel is ' honey comb' or ' hucka- back,' about half- worn, .33 in. s by 18£ ins., has four double stripes of red running through from end to end, 5 ins. apart, and a red stripe three- quarters of an inch broad at each end, with fringe border, two very small holes at one end, and is o^ iite clean. At the Coroner's inquest a verdict of ' Wilful Murdei' wa3 returned against some person or persons unkccwa. Stolen oil tho night of the 29th ultimo, from the person : • a silver, leveu Watch, No, 3608, gold hands, and a small crack BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between G and 8 p. m., on the evening of the 27th ultimo, the dwelling- house of Mr. Charles Edward Hansell, grocer, of St. Albans, was broken and entered, and a mahogany Desk, containing [ from £ 15 to £ 20 in Gold, £ 17 in Silver, £ 4 in Coppers, 2s. in Farthings, and one £ 5 Bank of England Note stolen therein. Also 2 lbs. of Returns, 1 lb. of Shag Tobacco; about 4 lbs. of Tea; a double- case silver hunting Watch, engine- turned, but worn nearly smooth, maker T. or J. Parker. A tall man with a long coat and felt hat was seen near the back of the premises, on the evening of the offence, and an old black handled table knife, has since been found left on the premises. During the night of the 22nd instant the Booking Office at Hope Junction on the Wrexham Mold and Connah's Quay Railway was broken and entered ; and on the same night the Booking Office at the Caergwele Railway Station was broken and entered, and a gentleman's black felt Hat stolen therein. Supposed by a man about 40 years of age, 5 fept high, sandy beard and moustache, ' Jim Crow' hat, mingled brown cloth coat, cord trousers, and socks. During the night of the' 23rd instant the Office of the Cannock and Leacroft Colliery, Cannock, was broken and entered and stolen therein : two small Pocket Books, and two short blue Flannel Jackets, such as are worn by engine- drivers and fitters. A common ! brace and an auger bit, with the name of ' Harris,' were left1 on the premises. £ 40 reward will be paid for the appre- hension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property, or a proportionate reward for any \ portion thereof. Jn the 22nd instant, the dwelling- house of John Sly, of Gillingham, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a brown Greatcoat, with velvet collar; a pair of black cloth Trousers; a silk Handkerchief, with red border; and an open- face silver Watch. Suspicion is attached to a youth, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark hair, and fresh complexion ; dressed in old brown coat, cord vest and trousers, black billycock hat, and old lace- up boots. Stolen from a field at Slaithwaite during the night of the 27th ultimo : a grey cart Filly, rising 2 years old, about 13£ hands high, long mane and tail, very full bone and large head. A reward of £ 5 will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to the recovery of the Filly and conviction of the offender or offenders. Stolen from a field at Ashford Carbonel, Salop, on the 28th ult. : a dark brown hack Mare, in foal, aged, 15 hands high, rough coat, a little white on one fetlock, one knee ia slightly chipped, and she is very handsome and compact. £ 25 reward wm be paid upon the conviction of the thief or thieves. Stolen on the 1st instant, from Grosvenor- place, Pimlico: a daik bay cob Horse, clipped ; and a Cart, paiated a dark colour, containing about 80 lbs. of Meat, ' E. Abscomlod from Long Sutton on the 2!) th ultimo • THOMAS SMITH, alias WILLIAM FLETCHER," car penter, supposed a native of Standground, near Peterboro', charged with stealing Carpenters'Tools ( recovered); about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, of sickly appear- ance, tattooed on both arms, light brown hair, and sandy whiskers; dressed in old light jacket, old light- coloured trousers with stiipes down the sides, soft black billycock hat, wears an old pair of Wellington boot tops under his trousers as leggings. He is accompanied by a woman much older than himself, her hair quite grey, slightly pockmarked, tall and thin ; wears a brown dress, velvet jacket, and black straw hat. They are both addicted to drink, and likely to be found in low beer- houses. Supposed to be well- known in Sheffield. Information to be given to Sergeant Biggadike, Police Station, Long Sutton, Wisbeach, Lincolnshire, who holds a warrant for the man's apprehension.— Bow- street, January 7. FRANCIS WILMOT, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 8th ultimo, charged with stealing 40 elm Boards, was on bail till the Quarter Sessions, held at Devizes, on the 4tli instant, but failed to appear. A bench warrant is issued for his apprehension. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Slretten, Wilts Constabulary, Marlborough. — Bow- street, January 7. Stolen on the 1st instant, from the Shrewsbury Arms Hotel, Stafford : a light- brown Overcoat, with brown bone buttons, ticket pocket on right side, large pockets on liips and brown lining, which has been repaired ; and a pair of black cloth Trousers, nearly new. By a tramping stableman, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, round features, light hair, whiskers and moustache ; supposed dressed in grey mixture stable jacket and vest, black cloth trousers, black and white check shirt, white muffler with black spots, and strong lace- up boots. He says he was formerly employed as a stableman at the Training Stables, Middleham, and he will probably seek employment at Livery Stables, Posting Stables, and Tramways. Information to be given to Inspectov Hackney, Guildhall, Stafford.— Bow- street, January 5. Absconded from Chilton, in the pariah of Atcham, Salop, on the 22nd ultimo, charged on a warrant with embezzle- ment : JAMES KITE, late a farm labourer in the employ- ment of Mr. Jeffery Poole, of Chilton, about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, no whiskers, has lost the right eye, and wears a shade ; dresspd in dark jacket and vest, clean cotton cord trousers, strong lace- up boots, and low black hat. Information to be given to Super- intendent Howells, County Constabulary, Shrewsbury, Salop.— Bow- street, January 5. Description of JOSEPH RICHARD WILLS, charged with stealing— a gold lever Watch, with inscription in French insido ; a gold Chain ; three gold Rings ; a Mourning Brooch, engraved on the back ' Peter Foote'; and a sum of Money :— 18 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, pale complexion, and light brown hair ; he is a seaman, belonging to H. M. ship ' Duncan,' at Sheerness. Information to be given to Superintendent Wilshire, Folkestone, Kont, who holds a war- rant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 0, Stolen on the 24th ultimo, from the Barrel Inn, Ross : a pair of dark mixture cloth Trousers, with fly fronts and buckle at waistband, and have been darned in the scat ; a black high crowned hard felt Hat, with blue lining, size 6L with white stain marks outside the crown ; a Militia Shirt, linen front; and a pair of new blue cotton Stockings ; the - Jr. POLICE GAZETTE. By JOHN NICHOLLS, a' tramping fitter, 23 yeara of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, slight make, light haii% and no whiskers ; dressed in black cloth jacket, dark plaid trousers, old spring side boots, and the stolen hat. He is a native of Smethwick, near Birmingham, and is likely to be found working at a foundry or fitting shop. Information to be given to Superintendent Smith, Roas, Herefordshiae, who holds a warrant for his apprehen- sion.— Bow- street, January 5. Description of WILLIAM BANKS, late of Market Drayton, labourer, charged with stealing, on the 9th ultimo, four Fowls ( recovered), the property of John Dain : 27 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair and eyea, scar on right ear, and stoops ; dressed in pilot jacket, moleskin vest, cotton cord trousers, rough cloth cap, strong lace- up boots, and may be wearing a blue witney overcoat. He was convicted of larceny from the person in 1872, also of larceny in 1874 ; it is supposed that he will enlist at Canter- bury or Alderahot. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Haines, Whitchurch, or to Sergeant Galliers, Market Drayton, Salop, who holds a warrant for hia apprehension.— Bow- street, January 3. Charged ( on a sheriff's warrant) with embezzling .£ 280 belonging to a firm of ironmasters in Glasgow : WILLIAM SUTHERLAND BROWN, a traveller, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fair hair parted in the centre, and short, slight, fair whiskers ; dressed in brown tweed suit and brown felt hat, and frequently wears light brown gaiters ; is of dissipated habits, but has a smart and respectable appear- ance. Information to be given to Chief Constable MeCall, Glasgow.— Mow street, January 3. Absconded on the 28th ultimo, from 54, Charles- street, City- road, embezzling £ 20 : a raau, 24 years of age, 5 ft. 6 ins. high, sallow complexion, dark hair and eyes, Roman nose, and alight moustache ; dark dress, long dark overcoat and trousers, and black billycock hat. He is a collector.— Metro- politan Police, G Division, January 3. Description of RICHARD SMITH, alias ' DECK O,' a minder in a cotton mill, a native of Hyde or Dukinfield, Cheshire, charged with stealing on t/ he 22nd ultimo, a pair of watertight Boots, recovered : he ia about 42 yeaia of age, 5 feet 5 inehe3 high, brown hair, cut short behind, sallow complexion, no teeth in front, mouatache, no whiskers, and slender build ; dressed in pilot monkey jacket, black vest, greasy trousers, black and white woollen scarf, soft billycock hat, with broad brim, and blucher boots. Information to be given to Inspector Whincup, West Riding Constabulary Office, Woobroad, Saddleworth, who holds a waxrant for hia apprehension.— Bow- street, January 3. Further information respecting BENJAMIN MADDER, tailor, of Bungay, charged with embezzlement, and advertised in the Police Gazette of the 25th October last. He was traced to Chelmsford with his wife and children, stayed there one night, and went in the direction of London, and is now supposed to be working at his trade in the neigh- bourhood of Pimlico. Information to be given to Inspector Foster, Bungay, Suffolk, who holds the warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, January 3. Description of WILLIAM MOON, alias COCKNEY BILL, charged on a warrant with stealing four pairs of Boots, ® ne pair of Sea Boots, four seta of new Lasts, and some new Leather, on the 21st instant; the property of George Ernest Peters : 35 yeara of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches higb, sallow complexion, slightly pockmarked, black thin whiskers, no moustache, and has lost several front teeth ; dressed in a pilot jacket, soft felt hat, and grey vest; he is a tramping shoemaker. Information to be given to Head Constable Richardson, South Shields, Durham.— Bow- street, Dec. 31. Abaconded from Bradford- on- Avon, on the 29th instant, charged with obtaining a pair of nearly new black cloth Trousers by false pretences : JOHN MORRIS; 25 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark hair and eyes, and rather stout built; dressed in black cloth coat and trousers, silk velvet vest, soft felt hat, and military boots. He belongs to the 13th Foot, and is on furlough. He ia in company with a man, about 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark hair and eyes, and rather stout built; dressed in old grey cloth coat, canvas slop, and moleskin tiousers ; a labourer. Information to be given to Inspector Maggs, Wilts Constabulary. Bradford- on- Avon, who holds a warrant for the apprehension of Morris. — Bow- street, December 31. Description of JAMES BROWN, a hawker or coster- monger, travelling with a truck or barrow, who is charged on a warrant, with stealing from Nutley Farm, Hants, on the 10th instant, nine Sheep Skins, recovered: he ia about 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, pale complexion, face shaved, excepting tuft of hair on chin, thick lips, mole or wart on right cheek, and blotchey face ; dressed in light brown or speckled jacket or eoat, cloth trousers, fitting tight, torn acrosa both knees, and daik atripea down the aides, two waiatcoats, and white alop underneath, and hard felt hat, rather high in the crown. Information to be given to Inspector Brinson, Hants Constabulary, Basingstoke, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bout street, Dcc. 31. Absconded from Brighton, on the 26th instant, charged with stealing .£ 25 10a., consisting of Gold and a £ b Bank of England Note, with ' Mrs. White' written on the back : ADA SMITH, a servant, 20 years of age, short and stout, light complexion, and full light blue eyea ; dreased in a grey linaey dress, short black jacket, with two rows of black buttons down the front, and a black straw bonnet, trimmed with violet coloured ribbon. She is Irish, and it is supposed that she has gone to Ireland, probably to Belfast. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Constable White, Town Hall, Brighton, Sussex.— Bow- street, December 31. Charged with obtaining a Great- coat by a trick, amount- ing to larceny, at Chester, on the 24th instant : a man about 34 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, face all shaved except the chin, fair complexiou, and thin features ; dressed in black frock coat, with white slop underneath, drab trousers, round black hat, and had the heel of one of his boots cut away. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town nail, Chester.— Bow- street, December 29. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Quarrington, on the 21st instant: a brown cloth Overcoat, double- breasted, three outside pockets, two on the left, and one on the right side, black velvet collar, and large black bone buttons. CLARKE, a pianoforte tuner, who lodged in • the house and absconded, wearing the overcoat : he is about ^ years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, light complexion, dark » ycs, black curly hair, cut short behind, black moustache, no WVUKV^ J.^ and stoutly built ; dressed in a black double- oroasted ^ th coat, rather long, dark mixture vest, black and white roWtu,,. trousers, black billycock hat, and white knitted glove*. Uo carriea a black leather bag, and black walking- stick ; he has a ring on his finger, with carbuncle stone; he presents cards of ' Fawcett's type.' Information to be given to Superintendent Stevenitt, Sleaford, Lincolnshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 29. CHARLES HERBERT ROGERS, who absconded from Honey- street Wharf, on the 5th instant, charged with embezzlement, enlisted into the Royal Marines at Stone- house, Devon, iu the name of ROBERT WARE, on the LOth instant, and on his way to join the Dep6t at Deal he deserted at Westminster, on the 14th instant. See Police Gazette of the 20th instant, for both offences. £ 5 reward ia offered for his apprehension. Description of two lads charged on a warrant with obtaining £ 1 by false pretences, from Robert Browning, inn- keeper, of Cockfield, on the 25th ultimo : WALTER CHOAT, a drover, about 15 years of age, 5 feet higb, stout build, fresh complexion, with sores on one side of face ; dressed in light coat and trousers, dark vest, black billycock hat, black leather leggings, with buttons, and black mackintosh, nearly new.
