C. *** Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should bo made and sworn to before a Magistrate, Of trie Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no chargo is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor must lie prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS. MUEDE ® AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the afternoon of the 5th ultimo, the body of William Comer, who was last seen alive on the racecourse at Totnes on thp night of the 3rd ultimo, was found in an arm of the river Dart, just under the quays at Totnes, with a severe fracture of the skull and other injuries ; and at the coroner's inquest a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' was returned against some person or persons unknown. A reward of XI00 will be paid to any person who will give such information and evidence as will lead to the conviction of the murderer or murderers, and Mr. Secretary Cross will advise the grant of ller Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being the actual murdeier, who will give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Description of HENRY HANCOCK, charged ( on a warrant) with the wilful murder of William Henry Mould, 8 months rid, at Higham, Kent, about the 11th ultimo: 2- 1 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, very dark complexion and hair, heavy black eyebrows meeting over the nose, small black whiskers, beard, and moustache, thin face, high cheek- bones, pointed chin, and long neck ; dressed in a monkey jacket, dark trousers, double- breasted vest, black and white plaid necktie, and cap with cheesecutter peak ; he is a native of Chatham, and is likely to seek work at factories or to go to sea. Information to he given to Superintendent Coppinger, Police Court, Chatham, Kent.— Bow- street, October 6. ROBB£ E7 AND LARCENY FEOM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of Mr. J. B. Smith, in Aylesbury, on the 12th instant : a silver lever Watcb, J- plate, crystal glass, maker Field and Son, Aylesbury, No. 33373, silver dial and gold figures. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Denson, Aylesbury, Bucks.— Bow- street, October 15. Absconded, charged at Bakewell with highway robbery Grendleford Bridge on the 8th instant, two men : One 36 or 37 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, dark sandy hair and whiskers, and dark complexion ; dressed in dark coat, dark billycock hat, and rather light trousers. The other is about 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 ins. high, dark hair and whiskers under the chin ; dressed in a dark- coloured coat with a white slop under the coat, and dark trousers. They are supposed to have come from Sheffield. Information to be given to Superintendent Williams, County Police Office, Bakewell, Derbyshire. — Bow- street, October 13. Stolen from the person of William Daniels, in Barnsley, at 11 p. m. on the 6th instant : 4 lbs. of Mutton, wrapped in a blue and white cotton bundle handkerchief ; a silver verge Watch, No. 177, dial broken about the figure ' 5,' maker Crowther, London, brass Chain, with two Keys and steel split Ring attached; ai d about 20s. in Silver. By a man, about 5 feet 11 inches high, whiskers down sides of face, no moustache, and slender build ; dressed in dark short . coat, dark trousers, and hard dark billycock hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Sykes, West Riding Constabu- lary, Barnsley.— Bow street, October 11. Stolen from the person in South Shields, on the night of the 2nd instant: a patent lever silver Watch, makers G. and T. Davison, Newcastle- cn- Tyne, No. 5340, had a gold Albert, Bquare block fancy pattern, stamped ' 10 carat,' and a massive gold Locket, round, and flowered both sides, attached ; also a black felt Hat. By MATHEW BARNES, alias CARNS, 21 years of age ( looks older), 5 feet 7£ inches high, dark com- plexion, black hair, no whiskers, slight moustache and imperial, slender build, walks erect, and is of smart appear- ance; dressed in black tweed tiousers with yellow thread in them, black cloth coat and vest, bound, a pair of shoes, and the stolen hat; he is a labourer, a native of Glasgow, and has a relative, a puddler, at Berry Edge, Durham. Informa- tion to be given to Head Constable Richardson, Borough Police Office, South Shields, Durham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 8. Supposed stolen from the person at Bury St. Edmunds, on the 6th instant : a detached lever gold Watch, No. 13486, maker ' J. Pace, Bury St. Edmunds.' Information to be given to the Superintendent of Police,' Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk.— Bow- street, October 8. BUR6LAR7 AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between ETand 11 a. m. on the 11th instant, the dwelling- house of Thos. Warburton, of Caergwyle, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a blue cloth Coat, double- breasted, with pockets outside and one inside left breast, covered buttons, and silk lining ; a double- breasted Vest and Trousers to match; a blue cloth pilot Coat, double- breasted, with velvet collar, horn buttons, and pockets outside ; a double- breasted Vest and Trousers to match; and a dark bottle- green cloth Top- coat. A low- set man, carrying some bundles, was seen in the neighbourhood. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Adams or Inspector Minshull, Mold, Flintshire.— Bow- street, October 13. Between noon and G p. m. on the 7th instant, the house of Mr. Solomon Rhineberg, in the parish of Ilumberstone, near Leicester, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : 1 gentleman's gold Geneva Watcb, with plain back and gold face, without the swivel. 1 lady's small gold Geneva Watch, with white dial, blue enamelled back, and cluster of small diamonds, sup- posed to be seven in number. 1 gold Chain, with snnll square links and tassels, with small star of turquoise and pearls to fasten them to the chain. 1 oxydised silver Chain, representing a dog whip, with dog's head and whistle. 1 gentleman's massive gold Ring, set with one diamond. 1 lady's gold Ring, set with eight diamonds. 1 ditto, set with one ruby and four pearls. 1 ditto, set witn one ruby. 1 silver Ring, set with a star of Irish diamonds. 1 gold Ring, set with turquoise and pearls. 1 gold keeper RiDg. 1 gentleman's massive gold signet Ring, with ' S. R.' engraved upon it. 1 gold Locket, wide at the bottom and narrosv at top, containing the photographs of a lady and gentleman. 1 lady's gilt chatelaine Chain, with four gold Lockets attached. 1 gold Brooch, with small coral and small pearl on the top. 1 gold Brooch and pair of gold Eardrops, butterfly pattern. 2 pairs of plain gold Eardrops, with fringe. 1 large silver Brooch, in the shape of a lover's knot, set with various coloured stones. 1 set of gold wrist Studs, with ivory tops. Several sets of gentlemen's gold shirt Studs, one of which has ivory fronts, and another mourning fronts. 1 lady's gold hoop Ring, set with six turquoises. 1 gold Necklace and oval shaped Locket. 1 gold Pencilcase. 1 silver ditto. 1 silver Toothpick. And £ G in Gold. £ 10 reward will be paid for such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Moore, Belgrave, Leicester, or at the County Constabulary Station, Leicester. — Bow- street, October 11. Between 8 p. m. on the 4th, and 8 a m. on the 5th instant, the pawnshop of Mr. William Leach, Higher Eanam, Black- burn, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a dark mixture shooting Coat, two outside pockets, and one inside left breast, brown speckled lining, a little soiled ; a pair of dark mixture tweed striped Trousers, nearly new, small man's size, fly fronts, lined with white calico, bound round the waist with blue or red cotton ; a black cloth Vest, very large size, nearly new, single- breasted, no collar, slate coloured lining, black covered buttons, not bound, and has a watch pocket; a pair of Trousers, supposed cotton or woollen cord ; and a woollen Shawl, broken plaid pattern, colours green, blue, and yellow, about half worn. Whoever will give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders, will receive £ 1 reward, on application to Chief Constable Potts, Town Hall, Blackburn, Lancashire.— Bow- street, October 11. On the 4th instant, two houses in the parish of Llanbedr, near Ruthin, were broken into, and £ 3 7s. 6d., a silver Geneva Watch, without the glass, No. 1613, and an old silk Handkerchief, stolen therein. Supposed by two tramps : one about 5 feet 7 inches high ; dressed in old monkey jacket, dark trousers, Scotch cap, and navvy boots. The other about 5 feet 6 inches high, very brown complexion, full face, and no whiskers ; dressed iu old brown coat, fustian trousers, and black cap, with peak. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Police Office, Ruthin, Denbighshire. — Sow- street, October 8. On the 5th instant the dwelling- house of James Lyons, at Shorne, was broken and entered and stolen therein : an old metal Watch and a pair of new elastic- side Shoes, without uails. By a man about 24 years of age, 5- feet 5- inches high fair complexie*, light sandy hair, no whiskers or moustache • dressed in dark clothes, billycock hat, and wearing the stolen shoes. Information to be given to Superintendent Coppinger Iv ent County Constabulary, Chatham.— Bow- street, October 8 HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a field at Brownhills on tie 2nd instant: a red and white Bullock, aged 2 years, and in good condition, the property of Chas. Woodhouse. Information to be given to Superintendent Hill. Brownhills, noar. Wallsall, Stafford- shire.— Bow- street, October 15. Stolen from a field by the side of the Rugby Road, in the parish of Hinckley, during the night of the 11th instant: a bay Mare, in foal, 15 hands 2 inches high, 8 years old, black legs, rather rough black mane, ragged black tail, cracked heels, runs wide with hind legs, and in good condition. Also stolen during the same night, from a field in the parish of Burbage: a dark roan mare Pony, about 13| hands high, aged, black mane, partly rubbed o^ black tail cut square, and in good condition. Information to. be given to Superin- tendent Moore, Constabulary Station, Hinckley, or to the owner, Mr. Edward Lord, butcher, Hinckley, Leicestershire, who will pay a reward of £ 10.— Bow- street, O: tober 15. Stolen from Fazeley, near Tamworth, during the fair, on the 11th instant, the property of Mr Thomas Holdam, of Warton, Warwickshire ; a dark brown she Mule, 8 years old, 12 hauds high, small white saddle mark Dn nearside, off hind fetlock white, and in good condition. By two men, one about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, rather stout, and dark complexion ; dressed iu a light suit, and black felt hat; the other about 35 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, sallow complexiop, dark hair, small' i? ark moustache, and no whiskers; dressed ; i dark clothes, and black billycock hat; they are supposed to be horse dealers, and were traced in the direction of Birmingham. Inforou4. ion to be given to Inspector Woollaston, Police Station, Tamworth, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, October 15. Stolen on the night of the 27th ultimo, from a field at Tixall, near Stafford : a light dun Pony, aged, about 12 J hands high, dark mark down centre of back, mane cut off, short tail, in good condition, the property of Lady Waterford, Tixall Lodge, near Stafford. A reward of £ b will be paid on the recovery of the Pony and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Chief Constable Congreve, Stafford.— Bow- street, October 15. Found, supposed to have been stolen: a black Cart Mare, aged, 12J hands high, white face, near fore leg and off hind leg white, saddle marked, and in good condition. Informa- tion to be given to Police Sergeant Hammond, Police Station, Shenstone, near Lichfield, Staffordshire.— Bow- strcet, Oct. 13. Left at an hotel in Wakefield, on the 27th August last, supposed stolen : a bay Mare, about 14 hands high, aged, black legs, and star on forehead, a sot of gig Harness, plated owl on blinkers, and a dark green painted Gig. Information to be given to Chief Constable chipstead, Borough Police Station, Wakefield, Yoiks..— Bow street, October 11. LARCENY A^ D EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded, charged with stealing on the 10th inst., tlree Saddle Cloths, 3 Washleathers, 3 Shoe Brushes, & c. ( recovered), from saddle- room of J. Coupland, Esq., Birstall, near Leicester : a man about 30 years of age, 5 feet U or 7 inches high, sallow complexion, rather thin sharp nose, oval face, very little whiskers, and left eye black from a blow ; dressed in shabby light tweed clothes, and dark dirty cap with peak. He had the appearance of a tramping groom, and may seek employ- ment at stables. He said he came from Kent. Information to be given to Superintendent Moore, Belgrave, Leicester. — Bow- street, October 15. Absconded from Hove about the 3rd instant, charged with larceny as a seivant: WILLIAM EDWARDS, alias LITTLE PETER, 28 years of age, about 5 feet 1 inch high, round full face, fresh complexion, dark hair and eyes, very short legs, and long body ; he has been to sea, and will probably try to go to sea again. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Breach, Town Hall, Hove, Sussex, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Octobtr 15. Absconded from Maesmawr, parish of Llandinam, on the morning of the 13th instant, taking with him a large Sheep Dog, with black and tan legs, answers to the name of ' Driver': a tramp, about 18 years of age, about 5 feet 5 ins. high, and dressed in a dark coat, brown trousers, and cap. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Newtown, or to Police Constable Pearson, Caersws, Mont- gomeryshire.— Bow- street, October 15. Description of WILLIAM SMITH, alias ' SUNDER- LAND BILL,' a shoemaker, charged at Middlesbrough with larceny : from 45 to 50 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, slender make, dark complexion, hair, and tuft on chin ( turning grey); dressed in a brown suit of clothes and black cloth cap ; he is a native of Sunderland, and well known in the North ; he is a good workman, and will probably be found working at some first- class boot and shoe maker's shop. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, who holds a warrant for his apprehension, Chief Constable's Office, Borough Police Station, Middlesbrough, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, Qtfohr 15, s P O L I C E GAZETTE. October 22 Stolen on the 11th instant, from the shop of a jeweller in the city of London : An emerald and brilliant half- hoop King, consisting of three emeralds aud two brilliants, mounted iu gold, rather massive, mark inside ' o g w /- /-.' A brilliant half- hoop Ring, consisting of five brilliants, mounted in silver settings with rose points, gold carved shank, marked inside ' o x x /- /-' and ' No. 22122.' And a large single- stone brilliant gipsy Ring, marked inside ' d x x /- By a man who called under pretence of purchasing, and sub- stituted rings of inferior value in the tray of rings shewn him in place of the above : 30 to 33 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, darK and rather florid complexiou, small dark whiskers, beard, and moustache ; dressed in dark frock coat, trousers, and vest, high hat, and wears a gold scarf pin, a fox's head, ruby eyes; has the appearance an 1 manner of an Irish American. £ 100 reward will be paid for the appre- hension and conviction of the offender and recovery of the rings, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Description of WILLIAM COLLIER, charged ( on a warrant) with stealing, from his lodgings in Hanley a double- cased silver verge Watch, No. 75128, maker George Fowler, Doncaster, with steel Chain attached ; a hair Guard, with plated mountings; a pair of black Trousers; and a light coloured cloth Vest: he is a miner, 20 or 22 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, pale looking, very dark hair; dressed in black jacket, old velvet vest, and blucher boots, and is supposed to be wearing the stolen trousers, as he left a pair behind him ; he is a native of Bolton, and lived iu Back Core- street in that town, he has worked at the New Oaks Pit, and lodged at No. 4, Holland- street, Barnsley, and was sentenced to 2 months hard labour there for felony. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Constable Windle, Police Office, Hanley, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, October 15. Absconded on the 27th August last, from G Division, Metropolitan Police, stealing two pairs of uniform Trousers, a pair of Boots, a pair of Leggings, and a Warrant Card : JOHN KENNEDY KERR, labourer, 25 years of age, 5 feet 10J inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, sandy whiskers ; dressed in blue pilot jacket, light vest, dark trousers, violet scarf, and black felt hat ; he is a native of Middlemar, Aberdeenshire. Warrant issued.— Metropolitan Police, G Division, October 13. Absconded on the 9th instant, stealing £ 400: a man, 20 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark complexion and eyes ( large), and bends on one side when stooping; dressed in Scotch tweed suit and black billycock hat.— Metropolitan Police, G Division, October 13. Stolen from the training ship ' Arethusa,' off Greenhithe, on the 9th instant, £ 2 2s. By a lad belonging to the ship, who has absconded : about 16 years of age, 5 feet 10£ inches high, fair conplexion, dark hair and eyes ; dressed in sailor's clothing belonging to the ship. He is supposed to be in London ; he formerly lived as errand boy at a bootmaker's in Westminster- bridge- road, aDd at a tailor's in Fetter- lane, Holborn. Information to be given to Superintendent Fread, Police Station, Dartford, Kent.— Dow- street, October 11. Stolen from the house of Richard Terry, in the parish of Smethwick, on the night of the 6th instant : one blue pilot Overcoat, velvet collar, pockets on hips, one inside left breast, one ticket do. on right side ; one half red silk handkerchief, with white flowered broad border, and white star in middle ; one silver Geneva Watch, No. 36152, with silver curb chain ; and £ 1 7s. in cash. By FREDERICK KITELEY, alias FREDERICK SHEPPARD, 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches Dgbt brown hair, fresh complexion, oval face, no whiskers or moustache ; dresses generally in white slop, moleskin vest, brown cord trousers, heavy lace- up boots, soft black billycock hat, and had also with him a suit of blue plaid. A warrant is issued for his apprehension. Information to be given to Superintendent Woollaston, West Bromwich, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, October 11. Stolen on the 5th instant, in the parish of Bosbury, the property of Byron Bhyals : a black cloth Coat ( pockets on sides), Vest, and Trousers, all rew. By a man, who was entrusted to carry the clothes and absconded, taking them with him : 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, stout build, fresh complexion, and no hair on face, has large feet, and turns them out ; dressed in a short white slop, cotton cord trousers, and strong boots ; he is a native of Mathon, Worcestershire, Information to be given to Superintendent Blunsden, Ledbury, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, October 11. of Surrey and in Sussex, and has been convicted. A warrant is issued for his apprehension and a photograph can be had. Information to be given to Head Constable Jarrett, Hertford Borough Police, who will pay all reasonable expenses.— Bow street, October 15. Absconded, cbargcd with obtaining £ 5 by false pretences : FREDERICK WATERFORD MANGLES GORDON, 24 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark complexion, hair ( parted in centre), and eyes ; dressed iu brown cloth overcoat, snuff- coloured coat and vest, dark plaid trousers, scarlet neck- tie drawn through a ring, black felt hat, and heavy lace- up boots; he carried a black bag and walking stick, aud has been seen at Lane's Hotel, Regent- street; he is known as LIEUT. GORDON and DR, GORDON, aud is known at Arundel, Sussex. Warrant issued.— Metropolitan Police, V Division, October 13. Absconded from Dudley, charged on a warrant with obtaining food and lodgings at au inn to the amount of 8s. by false pretences on the 27th ultimo— namely, representing himself to be an agent in advance for Batty's Circus. He is known by the name of ' Blind Harry,' and is about 5 ft. 6 ins. high, 45 years of age, sallow complexion, brown hair, turning grey, and blind of right eye ; dressed iu grey jacket and vest, with brown vest underneath, dark cord trousers, fitting tight at the bottom, and grey clotli cap. He was formerly employed in Batty's Circus as a groom. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Burton, Borough Police Office, Dudley, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, October 11. Description of a man who is charged with obtain'ng three Carpets ; two Rugs ; and various other articles, to the amount of £ 41 lis. 10d., by false pretences, from Mr. Johu Belcham, at Rayleigh, on the 22nd ultimo : he is 45 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, florid complexion, small whiskers, very short moustache, has an impediment in his speech, is a little round shouldered, teeth wide apart, and has the appearance of a horse coper : dressed in long brown coat and trousers, fitting tight to the legs, and high black hat. He hired a house at Hockley, and stated that his name was JAMES PATTEN, of 82, Finsbury- road, London, furniture van proprietor, which is false ; he absconded during the night of the 5th instant, taking with him a horse of the following description, which ho also obtained by a false pretence from Mr. Joseph Webster, at Rayleigh : a bay Horse, 9 years old, 16 hands high, lame of near fore foot, which he rests by placing it on the off fore foot when standing in a stable, has been fired round both fore hoofs, and is scratched about the hocks from kicking, small scar on near hip, roman nose, carries the tail out straight when trotting, one fore and one hind foot white. The above man was accompanied by a woman, 45 years of age, 5 feet high, stout build, fair com- plexion, d. uk hair, nose broken, high cheekbones; dressed in black silk gown, blue pilot cloth jacket, black hat, aud high heel boots, with large buckles. A reward of £ 10 will be paid on the apprehension of the offender. Information to be given to Police Constable Gates, Rayleigh, Essex, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 11. FELONIES. ( Not otherwise described). Absconded on the 27th ultimo, charged ( on a warrant) with felony: WALTER JOHN GARNETT MONK- HOUSE, late of 5, Morley- villas, Lewisham, 37 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, stout build, dark hair, heavy moustache, whiskers shaved off. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police, Detective Depart- ment, 26, Old Jewry, E. G.— Bouj- street, October 8. During the night of the 29th ultimo, in a field occupied by John Walker, in Witcham Fen, a Mare was killed by being knocked on the head with some such an instrument as a pole axe. Information to be given to Superintendent Smith, Police Office, Ely, Cambs.— Bow- street, October 8. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATES MISDEMEANOURS. Description of a man who is known by the name of CHARLES ADDERLEY WALTON, alias FREDERICK ONSLOW WRAY, alias FREDERICK WATERFORD MANGLES GORDEN, alias WYATT, representing him- self to be a surgeon, charged with obtaining £ 44 2s. 3d., by means of a false and fraudulent cheque, from Mr. T. Dring, harness maker, & c., Fore- street, Hertford : he is about 24 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, dark piercing eyes, florid complexion, black hair, parted down the centre, black moustache, very little whiskers, good looking, plausible, and of good address ; dressed in a black hard felt hat, and a grey mixture suit, sometimes wears a red silk scarf, at others a mauve- coloured scarf. He represented that he was a nephew of Dr. Walton, who had taken a large establishment in the neighbourhood, and that he was about to keep race and other horses. He generally lodges at hotels, and will introduce himself by saying that he has been recommended there by some gentleman.
