The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. NOTICE. Monday, August 5, being a Bank Holiday, the " Police Gazette " will be published on Tuesday, August 6. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Description of GEORGE BENNETT, a navvy, charged on warrant with maliciously wounding Thomas Best, a game- keeper, with intent to do him grievous bodily harm, at Salperton, on the night of 27th instant : he is 35 years of age, 5 feet 7J inches high, brown hah', grey eyes, fair com- plexion, pug nose, and leans forward when walking ; dressed in an old short dark jacket, supposed fustian trousers, jimcrow hat, and navvy boots. He is supposed to be in the company of three other navvies, two are tall, one with brown whiskers on face and chin, all in the dress cf navvies; they are con- nected with the case, but their names are not known. Supposed to belong to the county of Devon. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Philpott, Police Office, Northleach, Gloucestershire, who holds the warrant for Bennett's apprehension.— Bow- street, July 31. FORGERY. Absconded on 10th ultimo, charged on a warrant with obtaining Goods by forged orders : JOSEPH MUSGROVE, 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, sallow complexion, and slight brown whiskers ; dressed in light tweed suit, and billycock hat; a book canvasser. Is accompanied by his wife and two children. Information to be given to Inspector McWilliam, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- street, August 2. Absconded from Northampton, charged on warrant with forging and uttering a Bill of Exchange for the payment of .£ 41 : GEORGE ANDREWS, a shoe manufacturer, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, proportionate build, dark complexion and hair, black moustache, very little whiskers, walks very erect, and is of respectable appearance. When last heard of was staying at a coffee- house, 250, High Holborn, London. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Borough Police Station, Northampton.— Bow- street, July 31. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person during the athletic sports at Southwell, on 25th instant: a silver leser Watch No. 25047, makers name George Shepperley, Notttingham, and a silver Geneva Watch No. 77597. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Hallam, County Police Station, Newark- on- Trent, or to Inspector Webster, Police Station, Soutwell, Nottinghamshire.— Bow- street, July 31. Stolen from the person on 2Gth instant, at Pontefract Ruus : a gold lever Watch, enamel dial, No. 46026, has com- mon brass hands. Information to be given to Mr. Superin- tendent Fearnside, Town Hall, Pontefract, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, July 31. A pair of blue and red worsted Braces. A German silver Watch- case. A small white- handled Razor. A white flannel Undershirt; short sleeves, and one but- ton at neck. An imitation silver scarf Ring, with- red stone. A quantity of Cake and Preserves. About a shilling's worth of Postage Stamps. A double- breasted black and grey check tweed Jacket, four pockets outside, one pocket inside left breast, lined with grey wincey, and grey check covered buttons. A double- breasted blue pilot cloth Waistcoat, supposed lined with white twilled calico, and black wood buttons. A twilled cotton Shift; colours, red, white, and blue; white buttons. Two paii- s of Shetland grey ribbed Stockings, man's size. A large cotton Handkerchief, colours supposed to be red, black, and white. Supposed by tramps. Information to be given to Mr. Super- intendent Fowler, Penrith, or to the Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle.— Bow- street, July 31. On 28th instant the dwelling- house of Mr. Dobbie, of Arthur- street, Gloucester, was entered and stolen therein : A lady's open- face gold English lever Watch, No. 43311. A long gold Chain, secret link, with two gold Keys, gold Whistle, small gold Pencil- case, and gold Locket attached. A fine gold cameo Brooch. A ditto portrait Brooch, 2 pairs of fine gold Ear- rings. A pair of long Ear- rings, with fringe at bottom. Ditto short Ear- rings, grape pattern at bottom. A fine gold Necklace, with Locket attached. A plain ditto ditto. 2 silver Brooches. A small blue enamel Lqcket. A small gold Albert, secret links. A pair of gold Sleepers. And about £ o or £ 6 in Gold and Silver. A man about 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 or II inches high, brown whiskers and moustache, and rather red face ; dressed in high silk hat, black frock coat, dark tiousers, and having a military appearance, was seen loitering near the house during the afternoon. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Chipp, Police Office, Gloucester.— Bow- street, July 31. Stolen, by means of burglary, from the dwelling- house of Captain Craigie, Cambridge Town, Frimley, during the night of 27th instant: a silver Tea Pot; a Sugar Basin, and a Cream Jug, fluted crest; a Cornucopia ; two Tea Spoons, shell pattern ; two Orders of K. C. B., and two small ditto ; a Medal for Singapatam ; also five electro- plated Egg Spoons ; six metal Tea Spoons ; two travelling Clocks, one a repeater, gold mounted, the other common brass ; and an old Mackin- tosh. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Hib- berd, Surrey Constabulary, Farnham.— Bow- street, July 31. Between 9 a. m. and 5 p. m. on 17th instant, the dwelling- house of John Turnbull, labourer, Leepsrigg Cottage, Walton, Cumberland, was broken into, and stolen therein : a single- breasted dark tweed cloth Coat, black boue buttons, two pockets outside and one inside left breast, ' French, Bramp- ton ' on loop imiiae of collar; a pair ef elastic- side Boots ( recovered); a cotton buff and white coloured Handkerchief ; and 20s. in Silver. By a man, 35 to 40 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, slender figure, fresh complexion, dark hair, mixed with grey, short side whiskers on cheeks, tattoo marks or light blue letters on top side of wrist joint, at top of one or both hands, and has a North of England or Scotch accent; dressed when last seen after the robbery, in a dark mixture tweed coat, supposed stolen, dark vest, moleskin trousers, mended inside left leg, coloured woollen scarf, ends hanging clown, grey cloth double- peaked cap, and strong plain lace- up boots, and carried a thick ash walking stick. He stated he came from Kendal, and was on his way to Kelso or Hawick, where he had two brothers residing, he is supposed to have been in the Army, and was traced on the day of the robbery to Longton, and travelled by the 3' 50 train to Lang- holm. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Parks, Constabulary Office, Brampton, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, July 29. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen, by means of housebreaking, on the afternoon of 27th instant, at Lowthian Gill Cottage, Hestlet, near Penrith, Cumberland : A silver doubledinked Albert Guard and Key, with red Stone. A white linen Kytle, two outside pockets ; has been re- paired on both sides, just above the pockets. A pair of nearly new grey- striped moleskin trousers, fall front, brass buttons, and lined with white twilled ealico. from a field at Grayston Close, near Cockermouth, on 19th ultimo : a yearling light- coloured chestnut Filly, thorough bred, about 14 hands high, in good condition, white star ou forehead, and a round shoe on off hind foot, the hoof of the foot has a sand- crack, which has been burnt deeply across it with an iron, the burn marks will remain until the hoof grows them out, as they were deeply inserted. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as will lead to the recovery of the Filly, and apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Taylor, Constabulary Office, Cockermouth, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumberland. — Bow- street, August 2. Stolen during the night of 26th instant, from Cookham, Berks : a dark bay cob Horse, 4 years old, 14 hands high, one wall eye ( near), a white blaze down the face, two fore and one hind fetlock white, md in good condition. Information to be given to Mr Superintendent Iremonger, Berks Constabulary, Maidenhead, Berks. — Bmn- nreet, July 31. Stolen, on 24th instant, from a field in St. Ann's- road, Tottenham : a light bay Horse, 15 hands 3 inches high, 8 cr 9 y ears old, hind fetlocks and fore feet white, rat tail, large hind quarters, in good condition, may be sold in harness with false tail ; by two men, one aged 22 years, dressed in a light mixture suit and black felt hat ; the other, aged 25, height 5 feet 7 inches, with dark whiskers and moustache ; dressed in a cutaway coat, tight fitting trousers, and hard felt hat. A reward of .£ 20 will be paid by H. Gebhard, 73, Cornwall' gardens, South Kensington, to any person or persons who will give such information as will lead td the recovery of the property and conviction of the offenders.— Metropolitan Police, Y Division, July 31. Stolen during the night of 15th instant, from a field at Stapleton : a black Mare, in good condition, 7 years old, about 15 hands 2 inches high, low on near hip, a little coarse about the hocks, plain shoes in front, with letters ' A. J.' stamped ou. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Rawle, Fishponds, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, July 31. . Stolen from off a Farm, Merthyr. OH 19th instant, a roan- coloured Filly, 2 years old, about 12 hands high, black legs, switch tail, unbroken or shod, in good condition, and ' It S' burnt on near side under saddle ; the property of Mr. Rowland Simons, farmer. Whosoever will give such infor- mation to Deputy Chief Constable Thomas, Constabulary Office, Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorganshire, as will lead to the recovery of the Filly will receive £ L reward.— Bow- street, July 31. Stolen from a field on the night of 22nd instant, at Spridlington Cliff : a red Heifer, 17 months old, white star on forehead, white tail end, and one white hind foot, horns nearly straight up, ends turning towards her back, maiden heifer, and fresh : the property of Robert Beech, cottager, of Spridlington, near Lincoln. Information to be given to " Inspector Taylor, Lindsey Police Station, Lincoln.— Bow- street, July 29. Absconded, charged on a warrant with stealing a chestnut Mare from Colney, Norfolk, on 2nd instant ; property of Messrs. Makins : THOMAS GOULTY, alias TIT, 30 years of age, 5 { eat 5 inches high, light hair, dark swarthy com- plexion, very thin, and looks iil; dressed as a horse coper when last seen. Last known residence, Limehouse. £ b reward to any person giving such information as will lead to his arrest. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Pigott, Norfolk, County Police Station, Norwich.— Bow- street, July 29. The roan Mare, stolen on 2nd instant from the pre- mises of C. R. Gilman, Esq., Norwich, and described in the Police Gazette of 10th instant has not been recovered. The reward offered is withdrawn. Further description of the man suspected of stealing the. same, and still at large : he is about 5 feet 9 inches in height, fair complexion, very little or no whiskers, thin and pale ; sometimes dressed in a blue livery coat with bright buttons, black coat with raised seams, like horsedealers generally wear, dirty drab worsced cord trousers, heavy lace boots, and soft hat, as worn by dealers. He is well known to all low horsedealers by the. name of ' Tit.' Information to be given to Chief Constable Hitchman, Norwich.— Bow- street, July 29. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Found at Hadlow, on 21st ult. : a dark brown Mare, about 14 hands high, 4 years old, short tail, white stripe down face, in good condition. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Kewell, Police Station, Tonbridge.— Bow- street, August 2. The blue roan Mare stolen from West Harnliam, near Salisbury, Wilts, and advertised in the Police Gazette of 11th June last, and 26th ultimo, has been found near Stourbridge, Worcestershire, and ROBERT RAY, stands committed for trial at the ensuing assizes at Gloucester, on 3rd instant, for stealing the same. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Woodman, Devizes, Wilts.— Bow- street, August 2. Further particulars respecting the chestnut Filly, stolen LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded from Newcastle- on- Tyne, on 28th or 29th ultimo : THOMAS P. WALKER, late a traveller in the flour trade, and for whose arrest a warrant has been issued, charging him with embezzling .£ 500, the moneys of his employers ; he is 36 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark brown hair, parted in centre and growing low over the forehead, heavy moustache, face shaven, rather high cheek bones, smart appearance, and of good address ; he is usually dressed in a light grey or brown tweed suit, flat- topped black felt hat, is a person of temperate habits, frequents tem- perance hotels, a native of Scotland, but has been some time in England, and is well- knowrn amongst farmers and flour dealers in the North of England and Scotland. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Central Police Station Newcastle- on- Tyne.— Bow- street, August 2. Charged on a warrant with embezzlement: ELEAZER LEVY, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, dark complexion, bakl, dark moustache, awkward gait, broad P O L I C E GAZETTE. August 2 shoulders, lost first finger, supposed right hand ; well dressed' of respectable appearance, generally wears diamond rings, diamond studs, gold watch and chain. Information to be given to Head Constable Oglethorpe, Borough Police Station, Preston, Lancashire,— Bow- street, August 2. Description of EDWARD ALLEN, alias TED, charged with stealing Fowls at Huntington, near York, about the 17th ultimo : from 30 to 35 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, brown eyes, dark or swarthy complexion, dark hair, whiskers down sides of face, and ( supposed) moustache, pro- portionate built, aud is supposed to be suffering from a disease, which causes him to walk lame ; dressed in dark blue or black cloth shooting coat and vest, dark cloth trousers, black felt hat, laced boots, all a good deal worn, and generally wears a paper collar, but no tie. He stated that he is a native of Lincolnshire, and has been in different situations as a groom, ostler, and other employment amongst horses, he is married, and his wife and family are supposed to be residing at Lincoln. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendeirt Hunter, North Riding Constabulary Office, Heworth, who holds a warrant for his arrest.— Bow- street, August 2. Absconded, charged with embezzlement : JOSEPH HIGGINS, late of Clarence Cottage, North End, Fulham, collector of local management rates for the parish of Fulham ; he is 63 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches in height, leans his head forward, has a short quick walk, iron grey moustache, cut short, and speaks in a harsh tone of voice ; he is described in the register of Pharmaceutical Chemists of England ( published in 1874) as Joseph Slatterie Higgins, and is supposed to be well known amongst wholesale chemists, and in the trade for supplying publicans and chemists with glass. £ 10 reward will be paid by Charles S. Foakes, vestry- clerk, Fulham, to any person who would give such information as will lead to his apprehension. ( Warrant Issued.)— Metropolitan Police, T Division, July 31. Description of GEORGE WHITE, charged on a warrant at Hastings, with stealing £ 4, the property of G. W. King, on 25th instant : he is 69 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, fair complexion, grey hair, and slight grey whiskers, scar on nose, tip of right forefinger injured ; dressed in old blue serge jacket, black cloth trousers and vest, and high black hat ; is a blacksmith. Was convicted of housebreaking at West Mailing, at the Maidstone Assizes, 29th June, 1865, and sentenced to 5 years penal servitude, being discharged on license in July, 1869. Photograph on application. Informa- tion to be given to Chief Superintendent Glenister, Hastings, Sussex.— Bow- street, July 31. Charged on warrant with theft of £ 478, belonging to his employers Messrs. Robt. Small & Co., Lime, Cement and Coal Merchants, Dundee, with whom he had been engaged as chief clerk and cashier for several years prior to 25th instant, when he absconded: THOMAS TURNBULL, of Scone, in Perthshire, 32 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, ' fresh complexion, red bair, whiskers and moustache, shaved on chin, and blue eyes ; dressed in hat, black surtout coat, but- toned up, hiding the vest, darkish grey trousers, elastic- side boots, small black necktie, and white shirt; opens his eyes widely when speaking, plays billiards, drinks freely, and is a heavy smoker. The Money consisted of Clydesdale Bank Notes, of the following values— 3 for £ 100, 5 for £ 20, 12 for £ 5, and 18 for £ 1. Information to be given to Procurator- Fiscal Dunbar, Dundee, or to Mr. Superintendent Dewar, Central Police Office, Dundee.— Bow- street, July 31. Stolen from a house at Berwick- on- Tweed, early on the morning of 24th instant: a double cased silver Lever Watch, No. 2897, engine turned cases, glass cracked, cream coloured dial, several small pieces chipped out at edges, gold pointers and dark seconds hand. Supposed by a man, about 27 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, ordinary make, dark hair and moustache, cut on palm of right hand, also on left hand ; dressed in blue serge coat, dark tweed trousers, grey vest. Supposed to belong to Glasgow. Information to be given to Head Constable Garden, Berwick- on- Tweed, Northumberland. — Bow- street, July 31. Stolen between 14th and 20th instant, from a public- house at Deighton : a pair of balmoral Boots, nearly new, patent fronts, plain toecaps, one row pricked, man's size. Supposed by a man, about 50 years of age, about 5 feet 6 ins. high, fresh complexion, hair turning grey, and whiskers shaved off; dressed in white jacket, moleskin trousers, and black billycock hat. He had the appearance of a navvy, and had with him a large kit and a small bundle under his arm. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Walmsley, North Riding Constabulary, Northallerton, or to Mr. Super- intendent Simpson, North Riding Constabulary, South Stockton.— Bow- street, July 29. Stolen from the Royal Oak beer- house, Millbrook, Hants, during the evening of 27th instant: an 8- day Clock ( since recovered). By a man named ALFRED JONES ( alias RICHARDS), a watchmaker, and a native of Bristol. He is about 40 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, dark hair, whiskers, moustache, and complexion, and has the appearance of a d ew ; dressed in a black jacket, light tweed trousers, elastic- side boots, and a soft felt ( Yankee) hat. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Stannard, Hants Constabulary, Bitterne, or to Sergeant Gibson, Police Station, Shirley, Hants, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, July 31. Absconded charged with embezzlement : HENRY GEO. NEAKLEY, late Secretary of midnight movement, 8f, Red Lion- square : 43 yrs. of age, 6 feet high, military appearance, stoops a little when walking : dressed generally in tweed suit and high hat. Warrant issued.— Metropolitan Police, G Division, July 31. Stolen during the night of 24th instant, from a stable at Moundsley Hall, King's Norton : a valuable breech- loading Gun, double- barrelled, walnut stock, gold mounted, with crest— half- moon and two eagles' heads engraved thereon, brown barrels, No. 16 bore, pin fire, makers Richards and Headley, aud numbered ' 12198' under barrels. Supposed by a tramping labourer, about 24 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion and hair, rather curly, no whiskers or moustache, has the appearance of a tramp, and supposed a native of Wars& ck ; dressed in dark brown cloth suit, much worn, soft billycock hat, and old lace- up boots. Information to bo given to Mr. Superintendent Dowdeswell, Police Office, King's Heath, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, July 29. ALFRED BARRATT, advertised in Police Gazette of 24th instant, was apprehended on 22nd instant, and he is remanded until 1st proximo. His proper name is BEVING TON. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Haines, Whitchurch, or to Sergeant Owen, Wen), Salop.— — Bow- street, July 29. Charged with stealing £ 12 in Money ; a violet Cashmere and silk Dress ; a grey silk Dress; a, black Hat, with black feathers and crimson knot at the side ; a brown felt Hat with brown Feathers; a black Bonnet with black and cream colour Feathers and strings; aud some ladies' under Clothing; the property of Dr. Guthrie, Esher : ELIZA. KNIGHT, 19 years of age, medium height, rather stout, and fair com- plexion ; was wearing the brown felt hat; her father works on the Race Course at Ascot. ALICE GOODING, 17 years of age, medium height, and dark complexion; her father resides at Claygate, Surrey. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Bunyard, Surrey Constabulary, Chertsey, who will forward a photograph of Eliza Knight, upon appli- cation, and who holds wai rants for their apprehension.— Bow- street, July 29. Stolen during the night of 26th instant, from a van, at Gibshoop, near Bubwith : one pair of laceup Boots, with toe- caps and brass eyelet holes and hooks, nearly new; one fustian Vest, with single- breasted buttons up to neck ; one pair of grew worsted Stockings; one cashmere Muffler, colour, red, white, and yellow, with men and greyhound dogs ; and a hand Towei. By a man, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark hair and complexion, whiskers very recently shaved off; dressed in dark rough cloth suit, vest single- breasted and buttons up neck, very greasy woollen cap, with red spots round, and was wearing clogs, but may ba wearing the stolen boots. Information to be given to Inspector Burmiston, E. R. C., Howden.— Bow- street, July 29. Description of GEORGE FETCH, alias JEMMY MICK, charged on a warrant with stealing a certain sum of Money at Elton, near Sandbach, on 25th instant: he is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, light hair, small sandy whiskers and moustache ; dressed in a black cloth coat, velvet collar, dark striped cloth trousers, strong boots, and black velvet cap, which fits close to his head. He is a native of Oundle. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Rowbottom, Constabulary Statibn, Middle- wich, or Acting Inspector Hulme, Constabulary Station, Sandbach, Cheshire.— Bow- street, July 29. Charged on warrant with embezzling upwards of £ 50, belonging to his employer, a boilermaker in Dundee, with whom he had been engaged as clerk and cashier for about four months prior to 22nd instant, when he absconded : DAVID SCOTT, native of Forfar, about 36 years of age 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, stout make, full face, dark complexion, dark hair parted in ccntre, small whiskers and moustache, shaved on chin, common mouth, dark eyes, long and thin fingers ; blind in left eye, although not visible to others, small round blue mark on one of his cheek bones ; dressed in a hard black felt hat, black cloth walking coat and vest, honeycomb pattern, bound with siik braid, brown and check tweed trousers, lorne shoes, thistle on toe, Shetland grey stockings, Oxford scarf, with pin, shape of compass and square, linen collar.
