Wotloe.— It is requested that all communications lor the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bfar tlie SSgDBatsire of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to tlie POLICE G AZETTE may bo made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all abetters addressed to the Editor must be prepaitl, otherwise the insertion will not bo made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, aud of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded en " War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS. AI3J MALICIOUSLY WOU1DINQ. On the evening of the 27th instant, a lady was seriously assaulted and beaten, while passing under the railway arch, which crosses Lover's- walk, iu the parish of Preston, within " the borough cf Brighton. A reward of £ 50 will be paid to any person or persons who will give such infoi- mation and evidence as will lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Chief Constable " White, Town Hall, Brighton.— Bow- street, July 30. Absconded, charged with wounding and inflicting giievous bodily harm upon Police Constable Richard Cashford, in the execution of his duty, at Wingham, on the 24th inst. : WILLIAM HUBAND, 18 years of age, 5 feet inches high, fair complexiou, light brown hair, blue eyes, and a native of Evesham, Worcester. And WILLIAM GREEN, 22 years of age, 5 feet 6f ins. high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, grey eyes, has a scar on inner side and beneath right cheek bone, and a native of Canton, Cardiff, Glamorgan. These men are privates ia the Royal Marines, and in uniform, • which, together with their belts, will probably be marked • with blood. Information to be given to Superintendent Stokes, County Constabulary Office, Sandwich, Kent.— Boiv- street, Julu 28. Absconded from Lineal, parish of Ellesmere, charged - with unlawfully and maliciously inflicting grievous bodily harm upon James Evans, of Hampton Bank, Ellesmere, on the night of the 24th instant : HENRY EVANS, alias HINES, abeut 20 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, sandy hair and whiskers, awkward gait, and turns his feet out very much ; and RICHARD THOMAS, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, brown hair, no whiskers, and has a lump over the left eye ; they are both dressed in cotton cord trousers, black coats aDd vests, aud black billycock hats ; each carried a bundle. Information to be given to Superin tendent Gough, Oswestry, or to Sergeant Gough, Ellesmere, | Salop, - who liold warrants for their apprehension.— Bow- st., July 28. The Body of Edward Howell, aged 13 years, was found in the Anfield Cemetery, Walton, on the 19th ultimo, and a verdict of ' Wilful murder' returned at the coroner's iDquest against some person or persons unknown. Her Majesty's Government offer a reward of .£ 100 to any person - who will give such information and evidence as shall l? ad to tbe discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers, and Mr. Secretary Cross will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not beiDg the person who actually committed the murder, who will give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Information to be given to Superintendent Martin, County Police Station, Old Swan, near Liverpool.— Bow- street, July 2G. Absconded, charged with cutting and wounding police - constable William H. Robinson, in the execution of hi3 duty at Headley Hill : BENJAMIN ALLISON, 36 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fresb complexion, grey eyes, brown hair, cut short, no - whiskers, full face, very stout figure, a native of West Auck- land, a miner and married ; has two small blue marks on left temple, mole on left side of neck, a small blue mark between the eyes, and a small scar below left knee. JOHN CUNNINGHAM, 20 years of age, 5 ft. 9 or 10 ihs. high, light brown hair, cut short, fair complexion, long face, no whiskers, stout build, a native of Ireland, and a miner. PETER CUNNINGHAM, 22 or 23 years of age, 8 feet 7 or 8 inches high, broad face, brown hair cut short, a native of Ireland, and a miner. JAMES DOYLE, 24 or 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 ins. high, dark complexion and moustache, no whiskers, dark bair,£ coarst> features, a native of Ireland, and a miner. And TERRENCE DOYLE, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, browu hair, no whiskers, large mouth, a native of Ireland, and a miner. Information to be given to Superintendent Oliver, Consett, Durham, who holds warrants for their apprehension.— Bow- street, July 21. ROBBERY AID LAECEIY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of John Young, in Berwick upon- Tweed, between 10 p. m. 26th and 12 30 a- m. on the 27th instant : a double- case silver lever Watch, light- coloured dial, large black chapters, gald hands, steel seconds, small crack near chapter ' 6/ maker Lumsden, No. 9677. Information to be given to Head Constable Garden, Berwick- upon- Tweed, Northumberland.— Bow- street, July 31. BUEGLAEY AND HCSUSE BREAKING. On the 27th instant, between 11.30 am. and 7 p. m., the dwelling ® f Paul Martin, of Hardwick, Bredon, Worcester- shire, was entered by means of picklock keys, and £ 17 in Gold, and an old- fashioned silver verge Watch, with bull's- eye glass aud steel Chain attached, were stolen therein. Supposed by two men, one about 50 years of age and about 5 ft. 9 ins. high ; dressed in dark clothes, low hat, and dark hair and whiskers, turning grey. The other about 27 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, light hair, whiskers and moustache, black cloth jacket, and dark trousers. They are supposed to have come from Birmingham. Information to be given to Superintendent Stanton, Police Office, Pershore, Worcester- shire. - Bow- street, July 30. Stolen on the morning of the 26th instant, by means of housebreaking, in Presten : 3s., two 4d.- Pieces, four 3d. ditto, and some Copper Monies ; also a silver lever Watch, No. 5642 or 5462, ' R. Scanlon, Preston,' marked on the works. Infor- mation to be given to Head Constable Oglethorpe, Borough Police, Preston, Lancashire.— Bow- street, July 28. Absconded from Ipswich, on the 22nd instant, charged with entering warehouses in the occupation of Messrs. Harrison and Gislingham, upholsterers, & c., and stealing therein divers Articles of valuable property ( recovered) : JAMES BROWN, 33 years of age, 5 feet 4| inches nigh, swarthy complexion, round visage, dark hair and whiskers, rather thick lips, proportionate build, has a mole between bis shoulders, four scars on left arm, and scar on right leg, and is rather nervous when spoken to; dressed when last seen in brown overcoat, velvet collar, black cloth trousers, and soft felt hat. He has been driving a cab in Ipswich, and has also worked with bricklayers, but will probably seek employment in the former capacity. Information to be given to Head Constable Mason, Police Office, Town Hall, Ipswich, who holds a warrant for his apprehension, and by whom a reward of two guineas will be paid .- Bow- street, July 28. Description of FREDK. BATH, who has absconded from Stockton on- Tees, charged with office breaking on the 19th instant, and stealing about £ 3 ia Silver, among which was a Crown- piece, £ 1 worth of Id. Stamps, 10s. worth of 2d. ditto, 5s. worth of 3d. ditto, and 7s. worth of id. ditto : he is about 20 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, sallow complexion, tliiu face, sharp features, dark eyes, black hair cut short, slight beard on chin, no whiskers or moustache, slender figure, and walks rather lame with right leg ; he is a solicitor's clerk, late of No. 72, St. George's- road, Southwark, London, and had previously been employed in New Kent- road. Information to be given to Superintendent Booth, Durham County Constabulary, Stockton on- Tees, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 23. Between 1 and 4 p. m. on the 12th instant, tbe house of James Ratcliffe, Denstone- lane, Alton, was entered by means of skeleton keys, and thirty Sovereigns and an old leather Purse stolen from a box in the bedroom. Information to be given to Superintendent Williams, Leek, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, July 21. Between 6 p. m. on the 15th and 8 a m. on the 18th inst., the house of Thomas Phillips, in the village of Madley, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a Suit of Clothes ( since recovered). By a man, who had the appearance of a stableman or colt breaker, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, and dressed in a dark suit, and carried a grey overcoat on his aim. Information to be given to the Superin- tendent Cope, Shire Hall, Hereford.— Bow- street, July 21. Description of GEORGE STRONNELLS, a shoemaker, charged with breaking into the premises of Messrs. Reynolds, shoe manufacturers, Chesham. on the morning of the 6th inst., and stealing several pairs of Boots, since recovered ; he was discharged on licence on the 12th ultimo : he is 44 years of age, 5 feet S]- inches high, sallow complexion, brown hair, bald top of head, light hazel eyea, cut on forehead, burn ou temple, moles ou each cheek, moles and scars on each arm, scar on left thumb, and has lost nearly all the upper teeth ; dressed in dark clothes, and black hard felt hat; his photo- graph can be seen on application. Information to be given to Inspector Moore, Police Station, Chesham, Bucks, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 19. HORSE AMD CATTLE STEAS. XSG. Stolen from a field at Birmingham, on the night of the 2Sth instant : an iion grey mare Pony, 3 years old, 13 hands high, white hind foot, wart inside near thigh, aud in good condition ; the property of Mr. Henry Cropper. £ 5 reward will be paid on recovery of the pony, and apprehension of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Carliue, County Police Office, Chesterfield.— Bva- street, July 31. Stolen on tbe night of the 26th, or morning of the 27th. instant, from Hook House Farm, in the parish of Newnham, Hants : a bay mare Pony, with black legs, mane, and tail, aged, 13J bauds high, white stripe down forehead, and has been recently dressed from withers to tail with a solution of brimstone, & c., the property of Edmund Robertson, Esq. Also stolen : a set of silver mounted Pony Harness and a light Spring Cart, painted black, nearly new. Whoever will give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders, and the recovery of the property, to the Inspector of tbe Hants Constabulary, at Basingstoke, shall receive £ 25 reward.— Bow- street, July 30. Stolen during the night of the 26th iustant, from a field at Yeading, Hayes : a bay Mare, thoroughbred, 15 hands high, aged, short tail, no shoes on hind feet, over at knees. By two men : one 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and whiskers ; the other about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and whiskers ; both dressed in dark clothes, carried coats on their arms, and had tbe appearauce of horse copers.— Metropolitan Police, X Division, July 30. Stolen from a stable at Cambridge town, Frimley, during the night of the 26th iustant: a dark chestnut half- bred saddle Mare, about 7 years old, 15 hands 2 inches high, roan mane and tail, flesh- coloured patch on nose, near hind foot and fetlock white ; abo a brown Horse Clotb, with red and black stripes, and Roller to match. A reward of £- 20 will be given for the apprehension of the offender or offenders and recovery of the Mare. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Newland, Surrey Constabulary, Farnham,— Bow- street, July 30. Further description of the Horses stolen from Merton ( advertised iu the Police Gazette of the 19th iustant) : oneu a dark brown Gelding, nearly 16 hands high, 7 years old, of high courage, quiet in harness but net in saddle, the mono- gram should be ' S. B. B.'; the other horse has a dimple on tie near hip. Supposed stolen by a man 40 years of age, 6 feet high, and dressed in dark clothes and billycock hat. £ 50 reward will- bo paid on the recovery of the horses and apprehension of the offender or offenders.— Metropolitan Police, Y Division, July 30. Stolen from a field on the night of the 17th instant: a bay nag Horse, 5 years old, 14 hands 2 oi 3 inches high, has three white heels ( two behind), turns toes of forefeet out, cuts behind, short tail, and is low in the rump. By a man about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, whiskers shaved off, has a scar about 2 inches long under light jaw, and a tuft of dark brown hair on chin ; dressed in" a light brown cloth coat, two inside pockets in skirts, one inside left breast, two outside pockets, and a small ticket pocket in right side ; is fond of singing in public- houses, is a good dancer, and has lately beeu travelling with a peop- show ; speaks with an Irish accent, knows Nottingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, & c., and speaks of having been to sea. lie was seen with the horse on the morning of the 18th instant near Nottingham, going towards Loughborough. £ 10 reward will be paid ou recovery cf the Horse and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Wynne, Spittlegate, Lincolnshire.— Bow- st., July 28. Supposed to have been stolen from a field, at Bentley, between the 13th and 14th instant: a dark roan Horse, about 15 hands high, iu good condition, right hind foot white, the property of Mr. Wm. Beaman. Information to be given to Inspector Gasson, Police Office, Willenhall, Staffordshire.— — Bow- street, July 23. Description of two Gipsies who frequent Epping Forest, charged with stealing two Horses from Orton Longville on the 10 th inst. ( since recovered near Woodford, Essex): one mau is about 21 years of age, 5 feet high, light whiskers, light brown hair, grey eyes, stout build, sunburnt, tattooed on one arm A B, walks with a short quick step; dressed in a sleeved waistcoat, twill sleeves tight fitting, cotton cord trousers, two or three rov? s of machine stiching round the bottom, yellow and blue silk neckerchief, and dark cloth cap; the other man i3 about 20 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, large nose, and slight build, dirk complexion, black hair, no whiskers, tattooed on one arm T H, walks erect; dressed in a long blue pilot jacket, red neckerchief, black billycock hat. Thase men were in company with two women dressed in shepherd's plaid shawls, and they left the men about a month ago. A reward of £ 2 10 for each offender will be paid to any persons who shall give such information as shall lead to their apprehension. Information to be given to Superintendent Barker, Norman Cross, Peterborough.— Bow- street, July 23. CASuENY AttD ESSBEEZLEHESTT. Description of ROBERT KENT, charged with larceny as a bailee at Middlesbrough, on the 27th instant ( property recovered) : about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fresh complexion, full face, brown hair, no whiskers, and slight moustache; dressed in a blue pilot jacket, fustian trousers, and soft black billycock hat; he is a native of Middleton, near Manchester, where he was in business as a rag and bono merchant, and left last March. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Middlesbrough- on- Tees, Yorkshire, who holds a warant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 31, • 2 P O L I C E G A Z E T T E. July 31 Absconded on the 22od instant, from Nottingham, I Watch and the Movements of a Watch, which was entrusted charged with Embezzlement : JOHN REEVE, a clerk and to him to be cleaned and repaired; about 40 years of age, salesman in a corn warehouse, 25 years of age, 5 ft. 5 or 6 ins. about 5 feet 10 inches liign, slightly pockpitted, and red nose high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, and no whiskers, and face. He wears a long brown tweed coat and billycock He is supposed to have a considerable amount of money with hat, and is supposed to have gone to Liverpool. Information him, and will probably endeavour to leave the country. £ 10 to be given to . Superintendent Owen, Holyhead, Anglesey.— Teward will. be paid for iuch information as will lead to his Bow- street, July 26, apprehension, on application to Chief Constable Poyntz, Nottingham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 30. Absconded from Burton Pidsea, on the 22nd instant, aud stealing £ 80, the monies of the overseers of the poor: JOHN MORTON JOHNSON, schoolmaster, about 35 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, sallow complexson, rather loug face, high cheek bones, blind of one eye, slender build, walks erect, dark hair, moustache, and long beard, and a scar on the left side of the neck ; he had with him his daughter, between 4 or 5 years of age. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Watson, East Riding Constabulary, Sproatley, Hull, Yorkshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 30. Stolen from a bedroom at Leycett, in the parish of Madeley, Staffordshire, on the night of the 23rd instant, by JOHN HARRIS, a collier, who lodged in the house, and has absconded : 19s., and a pepper- and- salt mixture cloth Jacket, with pockets on hips, ticket pocket on right side, and one inside left breast, black lining. He is a Welshman, about 23 years of age, about 5 feet 3 inches high, black curly hair, clean shaved, has a birth mark ( resembling a fig) on left side of neck, and a scar on chiu ; dressed iu the stolen jacket, old double- breasted grey cloth vest, black cotton cord trousers, blue cloth cap, with black aud white band aud tuft on the top, and newly- soled clogs. Information to be given to Superintendent Crisp, Stone, or to Sergeant Blakeley, Madeley, Newcastle, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 30. Absconded on the 26th instant, from Holloway- road, embezzling £ 4 7s. 6J. : a man, 26 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, fair complexion, light hair, whiskers, and moustache, aud dressed in light mixture trousers, white slop, and round felt hat.— Metropolitan Police, Y Division, Jaly 30. Absconded from the borough of Middlesbrough, on the 24th instant, charged with stealing a silver lever Watch, No. 55897, ' P. Kelledy' engraved on inner case, and had attached a long Gold Guard with round and square links. By a man who lodged at the same house, named JAMES McCUMMISKY, alias JAMES McCLUSKIE, a tailor, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches, stout make, sallow complexiou, black hair, thin on top of head, whiskers down side of face, cut out on chin, and a native of Ireland ; dressed in black coat, dark tweed trousers, black felt hat, elastic- side boots. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, July 28. GEORGE alias RICHARD GORDON ( described in the Police Gazette of the 10th May last, charged at Coventry with stealing Clothing, & c., from hotels) has been apprehended and remanded until the 31st instant. In his possession was found a blue twilled cloth walkiug Coat, of superior material and manufacture,| with black silk lining, hook and eye at waist, and two pieces of elastic to hold flowers at the back of top button hole. Information to be given to Head Constable Norris, Police Office, Coventry, Warwickshire.— Eou.- n. reet, July 28. Stolen from a money drawer in a shop at Bolton, on the 21st instant : £ 10 in Gold and Silver. By a man about 20 years rf age, who had lodged at the house a short time ; 5 feet 6 inches high, rather stoutly built and long features, light hair, and no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in old dark grey shooting coat, old dirty moleskin trousers, cloth cap w ith peak, and heavy clogs. He stated that he had been residing at Southport, jobbiug about, and occasionally assisting the horse drivers. Stolen from another money drawer in Bolton, on the night of the 25th instant: about £ 12 iu Gold and Silver. By a youth who formerly resided at the place, and assisted in the shop as a greengrocer, & c. ; about 17 years of age, about 5 ft. high, short light hair, pale complexion, proportionate make, and may be dressed in black clothes. He has committed similar offences elsewhere, and spent the money at Blackpool, Southport, & c. Also stolen on the 21st instant: a silver lever Watch, maker Wm. Agar, Bury, No. 102, engine turned cases, and much worn. Information to be given to Chief Constable Beech, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, July 28. Absconded on the 20th instant, from New Quebec- street, embezzling £ 5 5s. 4d.: a man, 43 years of age, 5 feet 6 inclx s high, sallow complexion, dark hair and whiskers, and Blight build ; dress in black coat, light grey overcoat, and high black hat.— Metropolitan Police, D Division, July 28. Description of WILLIAM GARLAND, alias WM. DIXON, charged with stealing £ 3 from his lodgings at New Brighton, on the 18th instant : 19 or 20 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fresh complexion, red hair, blue eyes, eunburnt, very straight, and good figure; dressed in dark coat and vest, dark tweed trousers, cap with French peak, and lace- up boots ; he will probably seek employment as an assistant photographer ; he talked about St. Bees, Cumberland, and he has also been in Woolwich. Information to be given to Superintendent Egerton, County Police Station, Abbey- street, Birkenhead, or to Inspector Hindley, Sessions House, Egremont, Cheshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 26. Absconded from Easington, on the 19th instant, charged with stealing £ 3 from his lodgings : WILLIAM WALKER, a tramping shoemaker, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 cr 7 iuches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, slender make, has a large red birth mark on right cheek, extending to his neck, and is a native of Malton, Yorkshire ; dressed in a blue pilot jacket, dark vest, grey mixture trousers, felt hat, elastic- side boots, and black and white necktie. Information to bo given to Superintendent Scott, Police Station, Castle Eden, Durham.— Bvw- streel, July 2G. Charged with stealing twenty- four sash Weights, recovered ; a bricklayer's labourer, 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 ? r 7 inches high, proportionate build, sallow complexion, thick lips, slight brown whiskers, and walks lame of right font. • dressed in an old grey coat, dirty fustian trousers, Stolen from a dwelling- house in Middlesborough, about 7 a. m. ou the 24th inst. : a silver lever Watch, ' P. Kelledy' engraved outside of inner case, had a long gold neck Chain attached, with round aud square links. By a man, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, rather stout build, dark MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATIONS. Left her home at Trowbridge on the 26th iuBt., and has not since been heard of : SARAH BAILEY, 72 years of age, full face, and middle height ; dressed iu a black dress, black and violet shawl, and black bonnet. It is feared some ill has befallen her. Information to be given to Superintendent White, Trowbridge, Wilts.— Bow- street, July 31. Missing from his home at Islip, Oxon, on the 12th imt and has not since been heard of : GEORGE FEILDS 6ft years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, leug grey hair, whiskery aud beard, aud stoops a little ; dressed in cord jacket, ' Vl 01 ,' l= 7> ° lee a 1D ™ es B uut T; VJ^ , breeches, and gaiters, black vest, hard felt hat and strong whiskers, a tailor, and a native of Ireland; dressed in black i b < , . . cloth cutaway coat, dark tweed trousers, black felt billycock hat, and elastic- side boots, one of which has a hole iu the side. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Middlesborough, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, July 26. He deposited a cheque for £ 75 ou the Imperial Bank, London, payable to self, and signed W. Howard. He received from Messrs. He was convicted at Beverley in October, 1874, and sentenced to 9 months imprisonment, and 3 years police supervision, discharged July 19th, 1875. ALFRED WALLACE, alias DONATI PERELLI, Reg. No. P 1382, 19 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, flaxen hair, mole on middle of his back, ard cut between the 1st and 2nd lingers of right hand ; was convicted at Northallerton in October, 1874, and sentenced to nine months imprisonment and three years police supervision; was discharged on 19th of July, 1875.
