Stolen at Windsor race course on the 16th instant, from the person of a gentler- nan, a gold engine- turned Hunting Watch, maker Dent, and a gold curb albert Chain. MUEDEE AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING Description of THOMAS ROURKE, a brush hawker, charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm upon Hugh ^ Mohau, ou the 12th instant: about 33 years of age, 5 feet inches high, fair complexion, nose rather flat, with wide nostrils, light brown hair, no whiskers or moustache, and proportionate build ; dressed in a brown cloth reefing jacket, <; otton cord t. ousers, imitation sealskin or turban cap, with- out peak, or may be wearing a dark grey coat and vest, and old cloth trousers ; is generally accompanied by a woman. He has a pedlar's certificate, granted at Middlesborough, ^ November 9th, 1874. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Middlesborough, who holds a warrant for his aprehension.— Bow- st'eet, June 21. FORGERY. Absc mded on the 29lh ultimo, from West Hartlepool, charged ( on a warrant), with forging bills of exchange for BURGLARY AND SOUSE BREAKING. The dwelling- house of James S. Gower, of hook, near Odiham, Hants, was entered between 2 and 4 p. m. on the 22nd instant ( the race day), by means of picklock.), and the following property stolen therein: a Cream Pot and two Table Spoons, silver, marked ' V.'; a Ladle, four Dessert and four Tea Spoons, silver; two large plated Brooches ; a small gold to ; a lady's gold Watch Chain ; a gold Locket, con- taining Hair, with a Guinea attached ; two Necklaces ; and about £ 2 in Silver. Two men were seen noar the premises : one tall, the other short; both dressed in black clothes. Also stolen, duriDg the afternoon of the same day, in the dwelling- house of George Windle, of North Warnborough, Odihani, which was entered by a skeleton key: two silver Table Spoons; six silver Tea Spoons, five marked ' G. M. L ', the other ' G. M. P.'; a pair of silver Sugar Tongs, marked ' G. M. L.'; and a gold Watch Chain, curb pattern. Stolen between 12 midnight and 6 a m., on the 17th inst., by means of burglary : two silver cups, viz. one large size with two handles, and inscription, as follows, '• Presented to Edward Winship by a few friends for his honest and manly conduct as an oarsman, April 12, 1874"; the other, smaller size, with two handles, plain made, no inscription on it.. A red shorthorn Bullock, fat, worth £ 25, and having ' Lot 93' stuck on the rump, disappeared fiom the sale yard of Messrs. Rainbird and Son on the night of the 16th instant, and is supposed to have been stolen. Information to be given to Head Constable Hibberd, Basingstoke, Hants.— Bow- strcet, June 23. Description of a man charged with Cattle Stealing, at Sheffield, on the 17th instant, the Cattle since recovered ; he is apparently from 27 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark complexion, face sunburnt, and one eye bloodshot; dressed in daik clothes, strong heavy boots, and wore a black flat- topped cap with peak. He represented himself to be an under- viewer in a colliery, which is believed to fee untrue. Information to be given to Chief Constable Jackson, Sheffield, — Bow- stree'., June 23. Stolen from the highway near Llanymynech, Salop, on the morning of the 20th instant, the property of John Jones, a boatman : a dark brown hors? Pony, aged, 14 or 15 hands high, in low condition, turns his forefeet oat a little, short tail cut squaie, has had sore shoulders and the marks are still to be seen. It was brought from the neighbourhood of Wrexham in March last. Information to be given to Super- intendent Ellis, Welshpool, or to Police Constable Rogers, Llandysilio, Oswestry, Salop.— Boic- street, June 23. Further information respecting ALF. H. WALKER, alias BISWICK, advertised in the Police Cazette of the 19th ultimo, charged with obtaining seven Cattle, by false pretences, from aucfioneers, in the cattle market, Hereford. Several of the Bank of England Notes obtained at Glynn'a Bank, have been traced, having been passed atj- aee meetings. A warrant has been issued for his apprehension. Description of a man charged with stealing a Mare ( since recovered) on the 9th instant : about 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 or G inches high, thin face, daik complexion and hair, no whiskers, and small sore eyes; dressed in a dark cloth cap ( peak), dark cloth coat, and cord trousers. Stolen from a field at Somerford Magna, Wilts, about the 8th instant : a light- coloured gelding Donkey, about 12 years old. Stolen from a field at Horton Kirby, near Farningham, Kent, during the night of the 16th iustant : a dark brown Mare, nearly thorough bred, 8 years old, about 14 bands high, star in forehead, near knee chipped, and both hind fet- locks have been fired. Stolen from the person of Henry Sambrook, on the 15th instant, at the Talbot Inn, Hay, Breconshire : a small- sized silver lever Watch, nearly new, with seconds hand, Ho. 8724, open face, double back, engine- turned, capped and jewelled, and a silver guard Chain attached. Supposed by a tramp about 40 years of age, ginger whiskers, hair turn- iug grey ; dressed in a daik grey mixture coat and cap. Stolen from a fold on Poulton Farm, near Marlborough, the property of Mr. John Tanner, between the 8th and 18th instant : 33 Ewes, some four and six- tooth, and others full- mouthed, not shorn, marked ' T,' either on the near shoulder, side, or hip, and some on the off side ; also 39 Chilver Tegs, not shorn, marked ' T' on the near hip. Whoever will j^ ive such information as shall lead to the apprehension and con- viction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the sheep, shall receive ,£ 100 reward. Stolen from a field at East Moulsey, during the night of the 14th instant : a bay Cob Horse, chipped knees, grey La rs on face, Bear on left cheek, in good condition, and a mahcga ly villiage Cart, new shafts, wheels varnished, and a set of plated silver mounted Harness. By two met;, one 24 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion, hair, whiskers, and moustache, and stoutly built; the other is 20 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, dark complexion, small dark mous- tache. Both were dressed in ribbed coat and trousers, and LAEGIIY ASD EMBEZZLEMENT. Description of ELLEN DANNOHER, a domestic ser- vant, charged with stealing £ I 19s. Sd. ; a black and red plaid Shawl with medium size fringe, and in good condition ; and two Pinafores ; from her master in this borough, on the 21st instant : she is about 18 years of age, 4 feet 5 inches high, sallow complexion, brown eyes, dark hair, slender figure, and marks of evil ou both sides of lieck ; dressed when last seen, iu an old black tkirt, aud supposed to be wearing the stolen Shawl. She is a native of Middlesbrough, but of Itish extraction ; has been previously convicted ; and has been confined iu York Industrial School. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, who holds a warrant foi her apprehension.— Bow- street, June 2- 3. Absconded from the borough of Middlesbrough, on the 21st instant, GEORGE HENRY FIDLER, late of the same place, Relieving Officer, charged with embezzling about £ Q0 in money, the propel ty of the Guardians of the Middlesbrough Union : he is about 44 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, small grey eyes, dark hair turning grey, bushy whiskers inclined to be sandy ( may be shaved off) ;' dressed when last seen in a grey tweed shooting coat aud vest, dark trousers, black silk hat, aud elastic- side boots. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, who holds a warrant for his apprehension, and will pay all expenses for his arrest. — Boui- street, June 25. Description of GEORGE TURNER, who absconded on the 15th iustant, charged with stealing £ 2 Cash, four Pocket Handkerchiefs, and other articles, from a box in a fellow- lodgei's room : 27 years of age, 5 feet 8J inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, dark hazel eyes, tattooed with the maiks— cross Hags, ' CT. IS,' underneath left arm, ' E. K.' on left wrist, anchor on left hand, five blue dots between tiuger and thumb, aud rings ou three fingers of left hand, scars on back of neck, and a hole in left cheek. He was discharged from Parkhurst Priscn on licence the 20th April last ; was sentenced to 7 years penal servitude at Chelmsford on the 21st October, 1869, for burglary ; has been a soldier, and will probably seek employment as a navvy on railways. Information to be given to Head Constable Ross, Borough Police Station, Newport, Isle of Wight, who hold} a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 25. I 0 P O L I C E ' G A Z E T T E . June ? 5 Absconded, charged with having, at Ely, on the 14th Jan. last, embezzled £ 79 18s. ( id., the monies of Cornell Fison, and others, merchants, of Thetford, Norfolk : CRANE GOLDSMITH, a merchant's cleik, between 45 and 50 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, dark brown hair, short behind, bald on top of head, large brown whiskers and mous- tache, has two false front teeth fastened iu with gold wire, which can be seen when he speaks ; he walks in a bustling nruiner, and swings his right arm very much. He took tiain at Brandon on the 18th instant, and passed through Ely, going towards London; he is likely to emigrate, having formerly lived in America; he has relatives at Clapham Common, Camberwell, and in Hertfordshire, and he is known in market towns iu Herts, Essex, Cambs, Norfolk, and Sjffolk. £ 10 reward will be paid to any person giving such information to Superintendent Smith, Ely, Cambridgeshire, ai will lead to his apprehension.— Bom- street, June 25. Description of SAMUEL WELLDEN, a tailor, charged with stealing a silk Umbrella, two soft felt Hats. 18 yards of tweed Cloth, thirty- two pairs of kid Gloves, and a quantity Wearing Apparel ( since recovered) : he is about 27 years of agt, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, light complexion, light short hair and whiskers, slight moustache, full eyes, slight make, talks quickly, and with a Yankee accent, having been iu America ; dressed in a dark morning coat and vest, light Cheviot tweed trousers, patent leather spring- side boots with ivory buttons, hard felt bat, striped Oxford shirt, and scarf, black ground with a small white spot; he may apply to first- class tailors for employment. £ 5 reward. Information to be given to Superintendent Lakin, Police Station, Chipping Norton, Oxon, v ho holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Boa- street, June 25. Description of ERNEST ENGLAND, who has absconded from Portsmouth, charged with felony : he is about 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, light hair, small light whiskers, full face ; dressed in black cloth walking coat, trimmed with black braid, dark grey vest and trousers, black felt hat with high crown, and blue silk necktie with white spots, all of which articles are stolen. He is also charged with stealing, an open- faced silver Watch, with engine- turned case and gold hands ; a silver Albert Chain; and a gold Pin, set with blue stones and a red stone iu the centre. He is a painter, and will doubtless seek employment at his trade. Information to be given to Head Constable Barber, Portsmouth, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 23. Desciiption of a domestic servant wanted in this borough, charged with stealing £ 2, the property of her master, on the 21st instant: she is about 18 years of age, 4 feet inches high, sallow complexion, brown eyes, dark hair, slender, and evil marks under each jaw ; dresssd, when last seen, in an old black dress. Information to be given to Chief Con- stable Saggerson, Middlesbrough, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, June 23. Stolen from the dwelling- house of Wm. Josiah Mitchell, at Dartford, on the 20tli instant ; two Sovereigns, a glazier's Diamond, and a dark blue ribbed cloth Coat, pockets at hips. By a man who had lodged in the house three or four days : he is about 33 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, light sandy whiskers and moustache, has lost ueai ly all hia front teeth, and| is a painter ; dressed in the stolen coat, nearly new light mixture cloth trousers, double- breasted black vest, black felt h'. t, new coloured cotton shirt, and elastic- side boots. Information to be given to Superintendent Fread, ICent Con- stabulary, Dartford.— Bow- street, June 23. Stokn from a carpenter's shop at Brackley, on the 16th instant, the property of Daniel King : a flag Tool Basket, with red and blue paint on one end of it ; two Hand Saws, one is set wide, with steamboat engraved about the middle, and a piece of iron livetted on handle with three iron rivets, the other very fine- tooth, one rivet broken aud handle loose; also a grey cloth Coat, tuended on right shoulder, lining of left pocket, aud cuffs, als. o the buttons are off the front, except the top one Supposed by a tramping labourer, who was in the shop the same day : about 40 years cl age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, and sandy whiskers; dressed in dark coat, old corduroy trousers, round hard felt hat, and lace- up shoes tied with string. Information to be given to Superintendent Osborn, Towcester, or to Inspector Botterill, Brackley, Northamptonshire.— — Bow- street, June 23. Charged on a warrant with embezzlement : CHRISTO- PHER BAINTON, clerk, late of 11, Camden- villas, Grove- street, South Hackney, 36 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, slender build, dark complexion, very dark hair, eyes, beard, and moustache ; and THOMAS FELL, a clerk, late of No. 24, Coborn- street, Bow- road, from 3C to 32 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, stout, florid complexion, daik hair ( rather bald), beard, and moustache. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, E C. — Bow- street, June 23. The whole of the property stolen from the house of Peter Bailey, of Sandbach, has been recovered. The three forgemen advertised in the Police Gazette of the 4th instant are still at large; they are supposed to be working in North Wales. Information to be given to Superintendent Roubottora, Con- stabulary Station, Middlewich, Cheshire.— Bow- street, June 23. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Kellington, about 9 a. m. on the 15th inst. : a silver lever Watch, No. 12,206, maker " Walker, Goole," engine- turned case, cream- coloured dial, gilt figures, gold hour hands, and steel seconds hand ; also a silver Guard, and 18s. Id. in Money : by a mau, about 30 yrs. of age, a labourer, a native of Burton on- Trent, 5 ft. 6 ins. high, sallow complexion, brown eyes, dark brown hair, tuft on chin, and proportionate build ; dressed iu flannel jacket with check lining, fustian vest, cotton coid tiousers, daik cloth cap with three small buttons on front, and strong heed boots. Information to be given to Inspector Goodall, West Riding Constabulary, Goole.— B- jW- etreet, June 21. Absconded on the 15th instant, from Regent- street, embezzling £ ft 3*., the monies of his employer: a man, 24 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair hair and complexion, blue eyes, slight moustache, and no whiskers ; dressed in blue diagonal cloth coat, light trousers and vest, and black deer- stalker hat.— Metropolitan Police, C Division, Jane 21. Description of a woman, charged with stealing a Shawl, since recovered, and also obtaining another Shawl, black and white plaid, by false pretences : she is about 28 years of age, fresh complexion, two plait3 of hair in front, and of very genteel appearance ; has two children with her, one at the breast ; she is supposed to be wearing the black and white shawl, is a hawker of mock jewellery, and travels with a very big man. Description of HARRY GLOVER, charged at Reading • with embezzling the sum of £ 3 on the 12th inst.: he is from 18 to 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark brown or black hair, rather thin, pale complexion, very dark piercing eyes; dressed in grey coat and waistcoat, dark striped trousers, showy green necktie, side spring boots with buttons, and a light grey hat, and had with him a new black mackin- tosh ; he is a baker. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Purchase, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 21. Stolen, on the 6th inst., from a public- house in Burton- on- Trent : two woollen Shirts, one with dark stripes, and the other a red and white check ; one pair of woollen striped Drawers ; aud one pair of Stockings : the property of John Preston : by RICHARD WOODHEAD, alias WOOD, alias GAUNT, who has been committed for trial at the next Staffordshire Quarter Sessions ; he is a native of Belper, near Derby, and is supposed to have disposed of the above pro- perty in that neighbourhood. Information to be given to Superintendent Bowen, Burton- on- Treat, Staffordshire.— Bowstreet, June 21. Further information respecting the young woman, charged with stealing from a dwelling- house, at Milford, Salop, as advertised in the Police Gazette of the 31st ultimo : she gives the name of EMILY WILLIAMS, and applied for a situation as assistant nurse, at Stoke- upon- Trent Union, and submitted testimonials from the Lady Superintendent and house surgeon, of Victoria Hospital, Queen's- road, Chelsea, and one from the matron of Bethual House, N. E. : she has lost the end of little finger of left hand, and she states that it was bitten off by one of the inmates of an asylum, where she was nurse ; she was last heard of in the neighbourhood of Wrexham. By a man about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, promi- nent nose, with blue mark across it, a tuft of reddish hair on the chin, rather weak eyes, has a mark on one side of neck, and stoops a little; dressed in a black cloth suit, and cap with tassel at top. Charged with obtaining £ 20 on the 24th ultimo ( by false pretences) at Ivenilworth : JOHN HENDERSON, name supposed to be fictitious, 45 to 50 years of age, sallow complexion, no whiskers or beard, black hair out short, black eyes ( squints with the right, or it is partly closed), deep cut or scar on right cheek- bone, about 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, and stout build ; drassed in a shabby black silk hat, black frock coat, drab vest and trousers, dark necktie, white shirt, and blucher boots with square toes. He. obtained the £ 20 from a widow keeping a public house, by pretending to engage her to manage a public- house called the Park Hotel, at Manningham, near Bradford, Yorkshire, owned by John Gardner and Son, there being no such house or persons.
