Notice.— It is requested that all communications lor the purpose of obtaining or giving infermation respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may bo made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. *#* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an. attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all ^ Letters addressed to the Editor most lie prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded en War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS FORGERY. Absconded from Kettering, about the lGth_ instant, BUEGLAEY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between 7- 30 a. m. and 12' 30 p. m. on the 22nd instant, the dwelling- house of John Waller, of Foss Farm, near Newton House, in the township of Sneaton, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a brown velvet Coat, single- breasted, pockets in laps outside, and a large pocket inside ( supposed right lap), lined with plaid woollen lining, black bone buttons, not much worn; a pair of woollen cord Trousers ; a black round haid felt Hat; a pair of elastic- side imitation lace- up Boots, with perforated toe caps; 1 lb. of Butter; and about a stone of Bacon. Supposed by a tramp, who was begging in the neighbourhood, from 25 to 30 years of age, about 5 feet G inches high, small moustache, much sunburnt, and rather stout. He will probably be wearing the stolen clothes, as an old pair of dirty moleskin trousers, was found in a wood near the house. During the night of the 21st instant, Mold Railway Station was broken into, and 2s. 8£ d. stolen therefrom. Description of two men, charged with stealing two Ponies from Lazenby and Yearby, North Riding of York- shire, on the night of the 13th instant, both natives of Essex, but have been at Marske- by- ihe- Sea, Yorkshire, for some time, and have absconded from that place : EDWARD HARTGROVE, alias PIGEON COTE NED, about 40 years of age, about 5 feet 8J inches high, dark hair and whiskers, inclined to stoop, and turns his feet outwards j generally dressed in green checked trousers, black cloth coat, aud cap with double peaks. He is a native of On gar, Essex. And WILLIAM ALLEN, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, or 5 feet 11 inches, slender build, fresh complexion, rather good - looking, light hair and moustache, aud no whiskers ; generally dressed in dark blue coat and vest, and black trousers, or in a suit of black, and velvet cap. He is a native of Chadwell, or Chadwellheath, Essex. It is supposed that they have taken with them an old- fashioned Gig with high back and low wheels, body painted black, wheels and shaf ts red. They left a young Colt, usually driven by them at Marske. These men were seen at Rosley Hill Fair, Cumberland, on the 17th instant, dealing with the two Ponies, The brown one was sold, and has since been recovered. Stolen from a field at Shipley, in the West Riding of Yorkshire, on the ( ith instant: an iron grey Irish Colt, 4 years old, about three parts bred, about 15 hands high, small star on forehead, small patch of white hair on outside of near hind hock, small sheath hairs rough inside of hind legs, had long tail, and was unshod, value £ 40. Was seen in Huddersfield Fair on the 14th instant, in possession of a man of the following description : about 2S years of age, rather tall and slender, dark complexion, no whiskers ; dressed in dark coat and vest, mixture trousers, and old- fashioned silk hat, with low crown, and broad brim. Information to be given to Superintendent Ball, West Riding Constabulary, Bradford, Yorkshire.— Bow- sli eet, May 26. Stolen from a field at West Handley, in the parish of Staveley, early on the morning of fiie 22nd instant: a red Heifer, has had one calf, and gives about 10 quarts of milk per day, the property of Messrs. P. & W. Barker, farmers. By a mau about 25 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark hair and whiskers, which he wears down the sides of his face, hips and right breast, outside, seam in middle of the back, to | rather long featured, aud fresh complexion; dressed iu a dark within about 6 inches of the bottom, lined with red and browu j cloth jacket and vest, light cloth trousers, blacV cloth cap, mixture, blue military trousers, dark waistcoat, and odd boots, ] and blue necktie ; walks erect, and has a smart appearance ; one spring- side, nearly new, the other a cossack, hob- nailed ; he was seen driving the cow into Chesterfield, about 5o'clock ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. K.' marked on back. A silver English lever Watch and Guard. An old- fashioned silver Watch, double case, Roman figures, has a crack over the figure G, ' T. B.' iu large letters on inner case, maker Woolley, No. 1013. A gold Watch, by Dent, London. A gold Geneva Watch, swivel very much worn, has been mended. A gold Geneva Watch, maker Straub, Blackman- street, Borough. An engine- turned gold 14- size full- plate lever hunter Watch, capped, and jewelled in six holes, compound chronometer balance, white enamelled sunk secords dial plate, steel spade hands, maker Carter, No. 5232. A silver hunter Watch, maker Ashdown, No. 744. A black Overcoat, with velvet collar, pockets at sides, aud one inside, and a meerschaum Pipe, Cigar Case aud Holder. Stolen from the person of a gentleman at the Brighton Terminus, on the morning of the 17th instant : a gold open face English lever stop Watch, with centre seconds, maker ' Massey, Liverpool,' No. 2471 ( 143- 18- 5). Information to be given to Chief Constable White, Brighton, Sussex.— Bow- street, May 24. Stolen from the person on the 19th instant: a gold Eng- lish Watch, maker Benson, London, No. 34388, and a gold link Chain, between Hitchin and king's- cross, Gt. Northern Railway, London. £ 2 reward will be paid for the recovery of the watch and conviction of the offender or offenders Information to be given to Inspector Young, Hitchin, Herts -- Bow- street, May 21. Ou the 9th instant a cottage at Woiplesdon, Surrey, was broken into, aud several articles of Wearing Apparel stolen therein, which have all been recovered, aud traced to a tramp of the following description : about 30 years of age, 5 ft. 8 ins. high, light hair and small whiskers with slight moustache ; dressed in an old dark cloth coat, military trousers with stripes out, and old boots. He had a discharge from the army. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Barker, Surrey Constabulary, Guildford.— Bow- st., May 21. Further information respecting the properly stclen at the booking office of the Bagillt Railway Station, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 14th instaut : three boxes of Cigars were stolen therefrom ( uot Tobacco, as previously stated), and the Parcel coutaiued a black cloth frock Coat, two pockets behind, four buttons on each side, and lined with black alpaca, and a pair of black aud slate- colour striped Trousers, brass buttons, and lined throughout with calico. Stolen from a field near Crickhowel, on the night of the 24tli instant: a brown hackney Mare, aged, about 15 hands high, black legs, tail cut, scar from halter under chin, scar under right fore leg, aud white mark ou back ; also a brown cob Mare, G years old, 14 hands high, white star on forehead, aud one white hiud fotlock. Information to be given to Superintendent Evans, Breconshire Constabulary, Crick- howell.— Bow- street, May 28. Stolen on the 25th instant, from Tunbridge Wells, the property of Mr. Thomas Waghorne, fly propiietor : a' rod and white Gelding, 13 hands 1 iuch high, long white tail, star on forehead, and rerl face ; a village Cart, with oak- coloured body and chocolate wheels, silver plated lamps, and the end of the near wing broken ; also a set of silver- plated Harness and Snaffle Bit. By a lad who hired the same for an houv aud a half, and did not return it, aud who is supposed to be the same person charged with similar offences at Worthing Information to be given to Superintendent Carliue, Connty Police Station, Chesterfield, Derbyshire.— Boxo- street, May 26. Stolen during the night of the 24th inst. from Vange Rectory, the property of the Rev. H. E. Wright: a dark horse l'ony, 12 years old, 13 hands high, white face, near hiud foot white, small white spot on off buttock, slightly speckled all over through recent skin eruptions, dark mane and tail ; also a light spring cart, painted dark, picked out with white, a set of harness, brass mounted, and a riding saddle and bridle ; the cart was traced for several miles in the direction of London. Iuformation to be given at the Police Station, Southend, Essex.— B< rw- street, May 26. Stolen on the 18th instant, from a field at Oldbury : a light brown mare Pony, coming 3 years old, 14 hands " high, white face, one fore and one hiud foot white, long black mane and tail, in good condition. Information to be given to Superintendent Kemp, Halesowen, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, May 24. Supposed stolen from Vineyard Farm, Charlton Kings, on the 17th instant : a dark brown Horse, between 16 and 17 hands high, black legs aud thiu half tail; also a bay Mare, four years old, between 14 and 15 hands high, cut " on near knee, and white stripe dowu the face. If stolen £ 5 reward will be paid on recovery of the Mare and Horse, and the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. If strayed all reasonable expenses will be paid. Information to be given to Superintendent Day, Cheltenham, Gloucester- shire.— Boio- street, May 24. Stolen from a meadow in Wrentham, betiveen 9 p. m. on the 19th and 6 p. m. on the 20th instant, the property of Jas. Lloyd, of Wrentham : a bay mare Pony, about 12 hands high, little white saddle marks on the back, lamed in the near fore ankle by a sprain, and has been fired for it. Iufor- mation to be given to Police Constable Cattermull, Wrentham, Suffolk.— Bow- street, May 24. The whole of the property stolen from the stables of H. Hall, Esq., Alton, Hants, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 21st instant, has been recovered in London, aud BEN- JAMIN FRANCIS, a dealer, of Alton, is charged with stealing the same, and is remanded till the 2Gth instant : lie is 27 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, florid complexion, rather large grey eyes, light hait cuf short, small light t 2 POLICE GAZETTE. May 28 - whiskers, and small sandy moustache ; dressed in a dark DRURY, formerly Agent for the Company in that district, mixture cloth jacket, light blue check cloth trousers, black ' about 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fair com- rouud crowned felt hat, aud light side- spring boots. Infor- plexion, rather pale face, brown hair, moustache, aud beard, " ' £ slightly bald on fore part of head, has a dimple in his chin, and springing gait; dressed in a black deerstalker hat, black velveteen jacket with pockets outside, dark coloured vest, and light summer trousers. It is supposed he will make for some seaport with a view of leaving the country. Stolen from a field at East Castle Colliery, ou the 16th instant : a dark brown Horse, 14j hands high, long thick maue, aud white spot on back, caused by the saddle. Also stolen from Medomsley, on the 17th instaut : a black mare Pony, aged, about 13 hands high, one knee larger than the other, and a little hair off one hock. Information to be given to Superintendent Oliver, Police Station, Consett, Durham.— Bow- street, May 24. Stolen from Millwr, near Holywell, on the 11th instaut: a bay mare Ponv, about 10 hands high, aged, hair rubbed off both shoulders, recently shod, aud in fair condition. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Hughes, Holywell, Flintshire.— Bou>- street, May 21. IIARCENY AND EMBEZZEEMEIST. Absconded from Cardiff, on the 15th instaut, charged on a warrant with embezzling a large sum of money : ROBERT BAILEY WILLAVISE, a traveller, about 45 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stout built, short neck, slightly pockmarked, rather dark hair, and whiskers turning grey, and moustache, tlorid complexion, grey eyes ; he has a peculiar gait, and walks badly ; generally dressed in pepper and salt coloured clothing, high silk hat, and carries a stick or an umbrella. It is supposed that he will try to leave the country. Any person giving such information as shall lead to his apprehension, shall receive £ 100 reward. Absconded from Netley, Salop, on the 23rd instant, charged with stealing £ 1 15s.. iu Money from the dwelling- house of Thomas Knowles : a lodger, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 iuches high, dark hair and complexion, sun- freckled face, hair cut short, and is a forge labourer ; dressed in dark grey cloth jacket, black cloth vest, dark grey trousers with blacs stripe down the side, lace- up boots with brass eyelet- holes, and cheesecntter cap ; ha3 been tramping about Trousers ; and a hard felt Hat. the country as cattle drover, shoeblack, and occasionally comple carrying parcels for passengers at railway stations, has been i and eyes ; dressed in a dark waterproof cloak, black straw in most of the large towns in the north of England, a. id is ' hat and feather, and supposed iu company with her husband, j i- i — T T„ f^.. rv, ot;,. r. i 23 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, and Stolen from a house in Brelsford- terrace, Boston, Lin- colnshire, on the 19th instant, by a man who had hired rooms there for a few days : two old silver- gilt pint Goblets with ribbed exteriors ( one since recovered), the other is engraved with a greyhound on ono side. The above man gave his name and address as— Sidebottom, Sleaford, both fictitious, and is about 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, rather stout, from 30 to 35 years of age, clean shaved, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, slightly deformed in right arm near the wrist; dressed ill dark walking coat and tweed trousers with stripe, soft felt black hat, aud lace- up boots. He is supposed to be from Manchester. Information to be given to Superintendent Waghorn, Police Station, Boston, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, May 24. Stolen on the 13th instant from Limes Grove, Lewisham : a silver lever Watch, maker ' Bennett, Cheapside, London' ; oue gold Locket, onyx stone ; one pair gold Ear- rings, car buncle stone ; one ditto ditto Ear- rings and Brooch, tiger's claw, set in gold ; oue fish Slice and Fork ; one soup Ladle; two Salt Cellars; six Tea Spoons ; twelve Forks, six large and six small, bead pattern, all plated ; one lady's Travelling Bag, with Fittings ; four Dresses— one dark blue silk, one light green ditto, one brown ditto, and oue grey woollen ; one dark grey waterproof Cloak ; one pale blue satin Petticoat; two lady's brown silk Umbrellas ; a sealskin Jacket, trimmed with light fur; one black velvet Ditto; two new Night- Dresses, ' Elliott' in iuk ; aud various articles of Under Linen ; a cardboard Box, containing pieces of Point Lace aud Pearl ^ Necklet; one rough dark cloth Overcoat, lining burnt inside ; a black cloth Coat and Vest ; a pair of light cloth By a woman, 26 years of age, short and stout, pale complexion, and dark brown hair appearance. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between 1 and 6 p. m. on the 17th instant, the property of Mrs. Shaw : Bell's and Corals ; a gold Brooch, with amethyst ; a gold Locket, with hair on both sides; a small gold heart Pendant, with sapphire ; seed coral Necklace, with gold clasp ; a hair Bracelet, with gold band ; a broken gold King, with opal; a dark green silk Umbrella; a silver Thimble ; two salt Spoons ; a tea Spoon ; an old 2d. Piece of 1670 or 1760 : CHARLES W. LOCKTON, a journey- roan baker, 19 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, fair complexion, mole on left clieek, sandy bair, and blue eyes; dressed in a light grey suit, black felt or billy hat, and lace- up boots. It is supposed that he will try to emigrate to America, or enlist. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Noble, Oundle, or to Inspector Kitchen, Thrapston, Northamptonshire.— Bow- street, May 21. Parry;' and a meerschaum Pipe, recently repaired with silver. Supposed by a tramp, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, black hair, no beard or whiskers, and dressed in an old brown coat, corded trousers, and has a very dirty appearance. Supposed stolen by a tramping man and woman, the man, about 40 years of age, about 5 ft. 6 ins. high, brown hair and whiskers, dressed in an old dark blue coat, and soft black hat, appeared to be near- sighted, especially on the right eye, his coat was torn on one shoulder. The woman much younger than the man, short, sun burnt complexion; dressed in old white chip bonnet, trimmed with black crape, and old shawl. Description of a man found dead at Great Warley, on the 18th instant : 60 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion, grey hair and whiskers ; dressed in black coat, trousers, and vest, high hat, and Wellington boot. Ou him was found 10s. in silver, a white handled, Pen- knife, Peacil, Bunch of Keys, and a piece of Paper ( on which was written ' My address and carpet- bag will ba at the Alexandra Hotel, Great Warley, for the next three days').
