Notice.— It is requested that all communications ior the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed . offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or lending the Bame, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information Bhould be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence chargod, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded en War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS. FORGERY. Description of a man who, nnder the pretence of pur- chasing a pianoforte, tendered a forged cheque for £ 50, and received a Cheque for £ 24 as the balance, from a pianoforte seller in Cambridge : he is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 or • 9 inches high, full face, sallow complexion, dark whiskers round the chin, no moustache ; dressed in dark clothes, black silk hat, and white tie ; represented himself as a clergyman ; he is supposed to be the same person as described in the Police Gazette of the 27th ultimo, as charged with a similar offence at Great Yarmouth. Information to be given to Head Constable Turrall, Borough Police Office, Cambridge. — Bow street, April 23. ROBBERY AID LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen on the 30th ult. from a gentleman, at Massington Ledbury race- course, an English gold Hunting Watch, * Maker Dent, London,' engraved on inside case. £ 10 reward will be paid on conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the watch. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Shire Hall, Hereford, or to Superintendent Bluns- don, Ledbury, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, May 7. Stolen from the person of Mr. C. H. White, at Reading Fair, on the 3rd instant: a gold lever Watch, gold dial ( has a scratch on it), chased back, No. 67994; also a gold Albert Chain, with a Guinea aud Half- guinea attached. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Purchase, Borough Police Station, Reading, Berks.— Bow- street, May 7. Stolen from the person at the Otford Steeple Chases, on the 1st instant: a gold lever Watch, gold Albert curb Chain and I ocket attached, the Locket containing Photograph of a Lady and Gentleman, ' Stephen Morrison' engraved on inside of outer case of Watch. Also a f- plate gold hunting lever Watch, enamel dial, maker's name, ' Bowman, Goswell- street,' with a Photograph of a Lady inside. Information to be given to Superintendent O'Kill, Police Court, Sevenosks, Kent.— Bow- street, May 7. Stolen from persons at the Stratford- upon- Avon steeple- chases on the 27th ultimo : a gentleman's gold lever Watch, white face, black hands, the glass is foreign and peculiar, having a flat cut in the inside, maker Grotie, Wigmore- street, London, No. 6360 ; a gentleman's gold Watch, French make; and a silver lever hunting Watch, number marked on centre of dial. Information to be given to Inspector Lapworth, Stratford- upon- Avon, Warwickshire,— Bow- street, May 3. Stolen from the person, at the Steeplechases, Aldershot on the 27th ultimo : a gold Geneva hunting Watch, had a double row of figures on dial, maker Robert Bernand, Chaux- de- fonds, Neuchatel, No. 10044, crest— lion's head on a shield on outside of case. Also a plain gold hunting Watch, with crest on back— lion and eagle, maker Lufman, Bloomsbury, London. Information to be given to Superintendent Stephenson, Hants Constabulary, Aldershot.— Bow- street, May 3. Stolen from the person, on the Henley Racecourse, on the 28th ultimo : a gold hunting Watch, names on dial ' Upjohn and Bright;' a silver open- face Watch, size No. 12, plain, hollow back, and steel balance, No. 44953 ; also a gold horseshoe Scarfpin, set with pearls and blue enamel. Infor- mation to be given to Inspector Hinde, Henley- in- Arden, near Birmingham.— Boic- street, May 3. Stolen from the person in Hull, on the 19th instant: silver Geneva Watch, No. 4624, with a gold plated Albert Guard. Also, on the 21st, instant: a silver lever Watch, maker Thomas Gilson, Pocklington. Information to be given to Chief Constable Cook, Hull, Yorkshire,— Bow- street, April 26. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between 11 p. m. on the 1st, and 5 30 a. m. on the 2nd instant, an entrance Mas effected into the house of Mrs. McKean, a widow, at Redcar, by means of breaking a square of glass in the froat dining- room window, and unfastening the latch, there was stolen from the dining- room table, the Stalk of a Flower " Vase, silver plated, the bottom being left standing on the table, the stalk stood on three feet, resembling dogs feet, from which three branches extended about 18 inches high, on top of each was a small glass dish to hold flowers, and one a little higher up on the top of the stalk, to hold a larger glass dish, also to hold flowers, the glass dishes were all found broken close to the window, inside. Information to be given to Superintendent Prest, Guisborough, or to Acting Sergeant Alexander, Police Station, Redcai, North Riding of Yorkshire Constabulary.— Bow- street, May 5. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Caterham, Surrey, between 3 30 and 4 p. m. on the 3rd instant : three ladies gold Rings, one with large ovil turquoise and a diamond on each side, and four red roses round the edge ; another a garnet and chrysolite, two chrysolites aud three garnets, but one garnet deficient; and the other a wedding ring, altered to a dress ring, with five turqtoise and a small pearl in centre, and leaves forming a forget- m5- not. Information to be given to Superintendent Murtell, Surrey Constabulary, Godstone. — Bow- street, May 5. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Knipton, on the 15th instant, the property of Matthew Clayton : four £ 5 Notes, Grantham Bank; a Sovereign ; a Half Sovereign ; three Florins; a silver lever hunting Watch, No. 7575 R, ' F. C.' on front of case; a Turkey red and white cotton Pocket- handkerchief ; and a pocket Book, with black cover. On the same day, the dwelling- house of Elizabeth Parks, at Knipton, was also broken and entered, and stolen therein : two old- fashioned pair- cased silver verge Watches, one has ' C. H.' engraved on back of outer case, steel curb Chain, very small silver Coin, and two common Keys attached, the other maker's name Jno. Thornton, No. 4078, long hand off, and two common Keys attached; a plain gold wedding Ring, worn very thin, and broken through in one place; a very small Bilver Seal, with a bird engraved upon it; a Half- crown ; and a Sixpence. Three men are charged with the above offence, two of whom are in custody, and remanded till the 26th instant, namely : GEORGE SHAW, 30 years of age, a hawker, of New Rad- ford. and HENRY ANDERTON, alias SWIFT, alias DRUMMER, fish and fruit hawker, Nottingham, 28 years of age ; the other man named JOHN ROBERTS, of Cooper- street, Nottingham, has absconded : he is about 38 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, rather stout make, fresh com- plexion, full featured, dark hair, small brown whiskers on the sides of his face, rather high cheek bones, aud thick lips ; generally dressed in dark clothes, and hard black billycock hat; he is a betting man, and attends races. Information to be given to Inspector Hinds, Constabulary Station, Bottes- ford, near Nottingham, Leicestershire, who holds two warrants for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 26. HORSE AID CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a field at Rotherham, during the night of the 4th instant: a dark bay horse Pony, 14 hands high, 6 years old, dark eyes, short ears, and has had the right shoulder broken. Information to be given to Superintendent Gillett, West Riding Constabulary, Court House, Rotherham, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, Moj/ 7. Stolen during the night of the 30th ultimo, from a stable in Wincott- street, Kennington- road, a heavy cart bay Mare, age 6, 17 hands high, hind feet and star on forehead white, slight splinter on near fore leg, and in good condition.— Metropolitan Poice, L Divisiton, May 5. Stolen during the night of the 23rd instant, from a stable at Compton- terrace, Islington : a dark chestnut Horse, bang tail, off hind heel white, scar on off side of rump, and blind of off eye.— Metropolitan Police, N Division, April 30. Found at Drayton Bassett, near Tamworth, on the 12th instant, and supposed to have been stolen : a dark brown mare Pony, aged, unshod, deep cut on left nostril, and in good condition. Information to be given to Inspector Woollaston, Police Station, Tamworth, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, April 28. Stolen from a field at the Firs near Ellesmere, during the night of the 17th inst.: the property of Mrs. Sarah Kempster : a dun- coloured Pony in foal, about 14 hands high, over 2 years of age, long mane and tail Information to be gi^ en to Superintendent Gough, Oswestry, or to Sergeant Gough, Police Station, Ellesmere, Salop.— Bow- street, April 26. travels about the country cleaning and repairing clocks and watches ; he is well known throughout the county of Durham. Information to be given to Superintendent Thubron, Durham County Constabulary, Stanhope, who holds a war- rant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 7. Stolen on the 30th ultimo, from Fulham- road : 80 yards of blauk Silk, with white and violet edge ; and 30 ditto ditto, with orange and violet ege. By two men : 1st, 31 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, sallow complexion, and dark brown hair and whiskers ( short); dressed in a dirk suit and felt hat; 2nd, 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, and fair hair and complexion ; and a woman, 25 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, and dark hair and complexion ; dressed in dark clothes, and of respectable appearance.— Metropolitan Police B Divi- sion, May 5. Stolen on the 30th ultimo, from a blacksmith's shop at Culgaith, near Penrith : two pairs of steel Callipers, sizes 6 inches and 4| inches. By a tramping blacksmith, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or £ inches high, bald head, and slender figure ; dressed in black coat and trousers, the latter torn in the seat, blue striped shirt, and blue cloth cheesecutter cap, with a brass button on each side. He is of drunken habits, and makes a practice of tracing puzzles and figures on the " floors and walls in public- houses. Information to be given to Superintendent Fowler, Penrith, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, Si ay 5. Dr. NORMANDIE, alias SHOTLANDER, advertised in the Police Gazette of tne 26th ultimo, was apprehended at Clifton, and is committed for three months hard labour in Shrewsbury Gaol. Supposed to have committed offences elsewhere.) He is about 30 years of age ( not ' 40' as adver- tised. Information to be given to Head Constable Cole, Borough Police Office, Bridgenorth, Salop.— Bsv.- u.. May 5. Absconded on the 26th ultimo, from bail, charged with embezzlement: THOMAS DANVERS, 45 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, grey hai • and whiskers, sharp nose, slight impediment in speech, turns his feet out in walking ; dressed in dark clothes. Warrant issued.— Metro- politan Police, R Division, May 3. Stolen from the dwelling house of Mrs. Marriott, of Stubbers Green, between 2 and 6 a. m. on the 30th ultimo : a black cloth Overcoat, pockets in each side and one in left breaBt ; a Suit of black cloth ; a Suit of plaided cloth, trousers and vest darker than jacket; a pair of elastic- side Boots, button . ( own front; two Shirts, one white, the other white with red spots ; two Neckties, one black and red, the other black and white ; and £. silver Geneva Watch, glass cracked, and imitation gold Albert Chain, snake pattern. By a man, 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, slender build, dark brown hair, small moustache, no whiskers, large features, his right baud has recently gathered and is not yet well, and he is a native of Stratford- on- Avon ; dressed in the stolen suit of black and boots, and blue cloth cap with peak. Informa- tion to be given to Sergeant Arnold, Police Station, Rushall, near Walsall, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, May 3. Stolen from a joiner's workshop at Tranmere, during the night of the 26th ultimo : a new screw Plough Plane : two Plough Planes, marked ' S. Morris ;' a Tenon Saw, marked ' A. Simpson ;' a ditto, marked ' Foulkes ;' a ditto, marked ' McKenzie ;' a set Mitre, marked ' Simpson;' a Mortice Gauge, marked ' Foulkes ;' a ditto, marked ' Simpson ;' a Brace and Bits, marked ' A. Bell;' three Planes ( one hand rail) a Dovetail Saw, and a Plough Bit, marked ' Bell;' a Wood Brace, marked ' McKenzie ;' a Tenon Square, marked ' McKenzie;' a Lamb Tongue Square; a Bass, half lined ; an inch Chisel; a quantity of Plough Bits ; a number of Brace Bits ; and two Match Planes. Description of a man who pledged some of the stolen Articles in Liverpool the following morning : about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, sandy complexion, sandy whiskers under chin, full face, stout built, and has the appearauce of a joiner; dressed in dark shooting coat aud billycock hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Egerton, County Police Office, Birkenhead, Cheshire.— Bow- street, May 3. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Description of THOMAS STAINSBY, a travelling watch maker, who failed to surrender himself at Durham Quarter Sessions on the 4th instant, to answer an indictment found against him for larceny as a bailee; 38 years of age, 6 feet 5f inches high, fresh complexion, hazel eyes, rather full, brown hair, light whiskers all round the face, and pro- portionate figure ; he lately resided at Middlesbrough, from which place he absconded about the 2nd ultimo; and Absconded from Tunbridge Wells, on the 19th instant, charged on a warrant with embezzling several sums of Money received by him for his master, Mr. R. Boorman, baker and confectioner : ROBERT MOSS, 21 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, walks with a limp, fair complexion, and slight moustache. He is a journeyman baker, and worked some thug since at Ashford, Kent, and is a native of Bridge, near Canterbury. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Tunbridge Wells, Kent - Bow- street, April 30. Description of JAMES VANNER, alias MILLER, charged with stealing two Clipping Machines ( since lecovered): 19 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark brown hair cut close, no whiskers, slight moustache ; dressed in shabby dark clothes, and a coloured cotton pocket- handkerchief rouud his neck; he has an impediment in his speech, and is a stable- man. Information to be given to Head Constable Ross, Boroi'gh Police Statiou, Newport, Isle of Wight, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 30. Description of NOAH WRIGHT, alias CROMY WEIGHT, drover, of Norwich, charged with stealing Fowls at Newton- Flotman on the night of tha 17th instant : he is about 27 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, slender build, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, small dark whiskers, and right hand very much deformed ; dressed in a long blue pilot cloth coat, brown mixture trousers, dirty brown woollen cap, 4 P O L I C E G A Z E T T E. May 14. strong lace- up boots, and carried a brown velvetjooat; lie is a notorious poacher, and is known in Grimsby, Hull, Lincoln, and several of the principal towns in the north of England. A warrant has been issued for his apprehension. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Piggot, or to Detec- tive Sergeant Hudson, County Police Station, Norwich, or to any of the Norfolk Constabulary.— Bcnc- st., April 28. Stolen from a bedroom at the Old Bear Inn, Gloucester, on the morning of the 2Gth instant: a light- striped woollen Shirt, nearly new, has never been washed ; a pair of shep herd's plaid Trousers ; and a small Jacket, which buttons up to the neck, the sams as worn by ostlers ; the property of Henry Day. By two men of the following description, who lodged in" the house, ard left at 8 a. m. : one is a navvy, about 21 years of age, middle siz9, and dressed in an old brown monkey jacket, cord trousers and vest, and lace- up navvy boots; the other is about 25 years of age, 5 feet or 6 inches high, and dressed in a high crowned hat, old dark clothes, and carries a cane in his hand; says he has worked as a navvy. Informavion to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Griffin, Police Office, Gloucester.— B'/ w street, April 28. Description of HENRY NELSON and MARY NELSON, alias Miss M. BLAKE ( supposed to be man and wife), charged with stealing a Canton crape Shawl at Bideford : Hen. Nelson is about 30 years of age, abcut 5 feet„ ll inches high, dark complexion, black hair, thin black moustache, slightly made ; generally wears a black surtout coat and black silk hat. Mary Nelson is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark complexion and hair, stoutly built, mole on one cheek, teeth uneven and of bad colour ; dressed in blue [ serge dresa and Alpine hat with green feather. They belong to the theatrical profession, the man usually takes the part of low comedian or prompter, and acted as such at the Plymouth Theatre about two months ago; the woman Bometimes acts as pianist ; she is supposed to be a native of Paignton, Devon, or has friends there. Information to be given to Superintendent Vanstone, Bideford, North Devon, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- street, April 28. Absconded on the 21st instant, charged with stealing from the dwelling- house of Mrs. Elizabeth Pacey, Whittington Moor : a silver lever Watch, No. 66768 marked on the dial, maker Choen, Birmingham ; a gold- plated Albert Guard, Locket and fancy Knife attached ; a single- breasted dark mix- ture cloth Coat, and a pair of elastic- side Boots : JOSEPH BUTLER, a collier or labourer, and a native of Ripley, Derbyshire, but has for several years resided in the neigbour- hood of Nottingham : about 21 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark brown hair, very slight moustache, no beard or whiskers, pale complexion, dark speck in corner of left eye, and has lost little finger of left hand below, the second joint; dressed in the stolea coat and boots, double- breasted dark cloth vest, Bedford cord trousers, and imitation sealskin cap. Information to be given to Superintendent Carline, County Police Office, Chesterfield, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, April 28. Stolen from a cottage at Marcle Hill, Herefordshire, on t. he 23rd instant: au olcl- fashioned silver Watch, with the names engraved inside ' William Retford, London, and John Lloyed,' and a silver Albert Chain attached. By a man 40 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, pale face, light hair, and sandy whiskers and uioustaclic , dressed in short brown monkey jacket, light vest, old moleskin trousers, brown hairy cap tied up at sides, and old navvy boots. Supposed to be an Irishman. Information to be given to Superintendent Blunsdon, Ledbury, Herefordshire.— Bow- stree', April 28. Stolen from a dwelling- house in Bolton, on the 2Cth instant: a silver Geneva Watch, No. 21879, aud a Vest; the latter has since been found pledged. By a coloured man, who had lodged at the house four or five weeks : about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, proportionate make, full round face, bread flat nose, no whiskers or moustache, large feet, and walks very erect; dressed in old black cloth shooting coat and vest, moleskin trousers, new pieces on knees, old blucher shoes, old black billycock hat, and old white cotton shirt with a pocket in left breast; said he came from Stockton- on- Tees, where he has worked at an ironworks a3 a labourer, and said he was acquainted with the police there; has resided in Manchester aud Rochdale, and is accompanied by his wife, a white woman. Information to be given to Chief Constable Beech, Bolton, Lancashire.— bovi- street, April 26. Description of PHILIP SMITH, who is charged with embezzling, on the 21st instant, £ 1 13s. 6d., the moneys of Mi-. Thomas Gladstone, Dale- end, Birmingham : about 23 years of age, 5 feet 6£ inches high, dark hair, small brown moustache, and slight whiskers ; he was employed as a carter, and dressed as such when he absconded. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Glossop, Birmingham, War- wickshire, v/ ho holds a warrant for his apprhension.— Bow- street, April 26. of a< » e, 6 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and whiskers ( trimmed close) and moustache turning grey, stout built, full face, and of respectable appearance. May bo accompanied by his wife and four children, three boys and a girl, eldest boy 8 years of age, very dark, the others fair. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, E. C. - Bow- street, April 30. Absconded froru Puddletown, Dorset, on the 14th inst. : PETER CORRIE, foreman tailor, charged with obtaining money from his master by false pretences : he is about 45 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, dark complexion, hair turning grey, walks very ereci, has weak eyes, and wears glasses ; dressed in dark clothes ; is a native of Scotland, and is well known at Greenwich, having been formerly the Ser- geant- Major of the Greenwich Artillery Volunteers. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Batty, Dorchester, Dorset, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 28. FELONIES. ( Not otherwise described). Description of WILLIAM WOOD, charged with an attempt to ravish on the 18th instant, at the namlet of Amblecote, Staffordshire : about 22 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, rather round face, light hair, no whiskers or moustache, amd rather pug nose ; he is a serveter at glass works, and a native of Brettle- lane, Staffordshire. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Freeman, Stourbridge, Worcestershire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 28. Description of JOHN BRINKLEY, of Kirton End, near Boston, who escaped from the custody of Police Con- stable James Foster, charged with having committed an unnatural offence with a sow, on the 18th instant: 25 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, stoutly built, light hair and complexion, large light eyes, and slightly pockpilted ; dressed in fustian jacket and vest, striped fustian trousers, dark cloth cap, with peak and a button on top, and nailed boets, nearly new. Supposed gone in the direction of Grimsby. Information to be given to Superintendent Thorsby, Ccunty Police, Boston, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, April 26. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEAXFOU& S. Absconded on the 27th instant, charged on a warrant with fraud : GEORGE MARSHALL, late of 127, Edgeware- road and Belle Vue Hotel, Graveaend, auctioneer ; 45 years MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATIONS. Absconded, from Stoke Farm Reformatory on the 11th ultimo : GEORGE GANDERTON, 17 yeats of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, ruddy complexion, light sandy hair, when spoken to has a dropping of the left eyelid, and is a native of King's Norton, near Birmingham ; dressed in corduroy trousers and vest, with ' Stoke Reformatory' stamped on waistband of trousers and back of vest. .£ 1 reward will be paid for his apprehension. Information to be given to Superintendent Tyler, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire.— Bok'Street, Mat/ 7.
