C. *#* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that in Information should be made and oworn to bofore a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any aiticle in the POLICE GAZETTE, al! lietters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded en War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded from Tunbridge Wells, on the 19th instant, charged on a warrant with embezzling several sums of Money received by him for his master, Mr. R. Boorman, baker and confectioner: ROBERT MOSS, 21 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, walks with a limp, fair complexion, and slight moustache. He is a journeyman biker, and worked some time since at Ashford, Kent, and is a native of Bridge, near Canterbury. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Tunbridge Wells, Kent.— Bow- street, April 30. Description of JAMES VANNER, alias MILLER, charged with stealing two Clipping Machines ( aince recovered): 19 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark brown hair cut close, no whisker*, slight moustache ; dressed ih shabby dark clothes, and a coloured cotton pocket- h » nd kerchief round his neck; he has an impediment in his speech, aud is a stable- man. Information to be given to Head Constable Ross, Borough Police Station, Newport, Isle of Wight, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Apnl 30. Description of NOAH WRIGHT, alias CROMY WRIGHT, drover, of Norwich, charged with stealiug Fowls at Newton- Flotman on the night of iha 17th instant : he is about 27 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, slender build, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, small dark whickers, and right hand very much deformed ; dres.- ed in a long blue pilot cloth coat, brown mixture trousers, dirty brown woollen cap, strong lace- up boots, and carried a brown velvet^ ooat; he is a notorious poacher, and is known in Grimsby, Hull, Lincoln, aud several of the principal towns in the north of Eugland. A warrant has been issued for his apprehension. Three men are charged with the above offence, two of whom are in custody, and remanded till the 26th iustaut, namely : GEORGE SHAW, 30 years of age, a hawker, of New Rad- ford, and HENRY ANDERTON, alias SWIFT, alias DRUMMER, fish and fruit hawker, Nottingham, 28 years of age ; the other man named JOHN ROBERTS, of Cooper- street, Nottingham, has absconded : he is about 38 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, rather stout make, fresh com- plexion, full featured, dark hair, small brown whiskers on the sides of his face, rather high cheek bones, and thick lips ; generally dressed in dark clothes, and hard black billycock hat; he is a betting man, and attends races. Description of a German calls himself Dr. NORMANDIE, alias SHOTLANDER, alias PARKES, a professor of music, late of Shrewsbury, and for some time previous of Liverpool, charged ( on warrant), with stealing a quantity of old silver Coins, among which are a Shilling of Queen Anne, a ditto of King Charles, and a ditto of ancient date; also an oil Painting, on oak panel, subject— an old woman tolling fortunes ; the property of Hubert Smith, Esq, who will pay a reward of £ 5 for his apprehension : he is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, very thin and pale, very keen eyes, with a restless and nervous twitching about them, dark hair, whiskers, and moustache, he is very quiet, has a pleasing manner, walks very quickly, and nearly always carries his pocket- handkerehie to his mouth, and has small feet; dressed in black top hat, black surtout coat, buttoned round the waist and open at the breast, light yellow trousers, lace up boots, and wore a scarf with a horseshoe gold pin, very large, mounted on gold, and representing three liorse3 leaping a gate or hurdle; he is well educated, and of good address. Stated he was divorced from his first wife about 5 years ago, and that since then he has married again ; his wife, who is travelling with him, appears about 28 years of age, rather short, very stout, fresh complexion, and has very good teeth ; they left Shrewsbury on the SKh instant, for Worcester, stating that they were going to London, but are likely to be about Worcester, Malvern, or Cheltenham ; he will probably try to get employment at teaching music; speaks English very well, with a slight foreign accent. Description of DAVID BROWN, clock case maker, charged on a warrant with larceny ( property recovered) : he is about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, light complexion, clean shaved, medium build ; dressed in bUck coat and vest, drab cord trousers, and felt hat. Information to be given to Chief Constable Henderson, Leeds, Yorkshire. — Bono- street, April 23. Stolen from the barracks at Coventry, on the 18th inst. : a gold Geneva hunting Watch, enamelled dial, a. n anchor aud monogram ' A. J. R,' with motto ' Spero Meliora' on back of inner case, a massive gold curb Chain attached ; alsa a £ 5 Bank of England Note and about £ 6 in Gold. By a private in the Royal Horse Artilley, employed as an officer's servant, • who absconded oa the same day : he is 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, brown hair, no whiskers, rather stout, good- looking ; dressed in a dark suit, hard billycock hat, and regimental boots, and had the appearance of a groom. A photograph may be had on application. Information to be given to Chief Constable Norris, City Police Office, Coventry, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, April 23. Absconded from Oldbury on the 30th ultimo, charged wich stealing £ 1 Is., the moneys of his master : JOHN BRIGHT, alias SMITH, 20 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, black eyes, hair, and moustache, dark complexion, walks with a slovenly gait, and states he is a farm labourer, and comes from Lincolnshire; dressed in double- breasted pilot coat, moleskin trousers, black vest, and Scotch cap, with yellow silk worked in the band. Absconded from Shrewsbury, on the 14th instant, charged on a warrant with stealing an iron Brace ( since recovered) : JOHN DONALD, about 24 years of age. 6 feet high, fresh complexion, long features, and dark hair ; dressed in moleskin trousers and vest, black coat, and black billy- cock hat. He will probably seek employment as a striker. Information to be given to Head Constable Davies, Borough Police Office, Shrewsbury, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 21. Stolen on the 20th instant, from St. Leonards- on- Sea : a black Cashmere Mantle, braided nearly all over with black mohair braid, and a light- grey barege Co3tume with three flounces at back, trimmed with dark blue silk. By a woman who said she was the wife of a solicitor at Watford, about 37 years of age, short and stout, dark complexion and hair : dressed in a black Tuscan hat trimmed with black velvet and blue piping, and the stolen mantle and costume ; had no lug- gage, said she was of French extraction, and suffered from heart diseasa ; she had the goads sent to her lodgings upon approbation, and absconded with them. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Glenister, Police Station, Hastings, by whom all reasonable expenses will be paid.— Bow- street, April 21. Charged on a Sheriff's warrant with embezzling £ 48, the moneys of the Clyde Shipping Company, Oswald- Btreet, Glasgow: JAMES FERGUSON, a clerk, 23 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inclies high, stoutly made, black hair inclined to curl and usually cut short, fair complexion, black whiskers and moustache, shaved chin, a scar on upper lip at side of left nostril, and nose hollow in centre ; dressed in light tweed suit, black felt hat, and speaks with Scotch accent. May go abroad. Information to be given to Chief Constable McCall, Glasgow.— Bow- street, April 21. Absconded on the 17th instant, from the'Belle Vue' hotel, Abergavenny, charged with stealing a light- coloured Overcoat, double- breasted, with velvet collar to match, aud 13s. ed. in Silver, the property of Mr. Charles James Cooper : WILLIAM HENRY WEAVER, a grocer's assistant, about 20 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, slight make, sallow complexion, dark hair, small dark moustache, no whiskers, a native of near Worcester, and of respectable appearance; dressed in dark tweed suit, brown felt hat, with round top, and supposed to be wearing the stolen coat and a ring on fourth left finger, with red stone. Description of WILLIAM WOOD, charged with an attempt to ravish on the 18th instant, at the Hamlet of Amblecote, Staffordshire : about 22 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, rather round face, light hair, no whiskers or moustache, and rather pug nose ; he is a serveter at glass works, and a native of Brettle- lane, Staffordshire. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Freeman, Stourbridge, Worcestershire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 28. Description of JOHN BRINKLEY, of Kirton End, near Boston, who escaped from the custody of Police Con- stable James Foster, charged with having committed an unnatural offence with a sow, on the 18th instant: 25 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, stoutly built, light hair and complexion, large light eyes, and slightly pockpitted ; dressed in fustiau jacket and vest, striped fustian trousers, dark cloth cap, with peak and a button on top, and nailed boets, nearly new. Supposed gone in the direction of Grimsby. Information to be given to Superintendent Thorsby, Ccunty I'ulice, Boston, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, April 26. FRAUDS A1. TB AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Absconded on the 27th instant, charged on a warrant with fraud : GEORGE MARSHALL, late of 127, Edgeware- road and Belle Vue Hotel, Gravesend, auctioneer : 45 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and whiskers ( trimmed close) and moustache turning grny, stout built, full face, and of respectable appearance. May be accompanied by his wife aud four children, three boys and a girl, eldest boy 8 years of age, very dark, the others fair. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of Loudon Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, E. C. — Bow- street, April 30. Absconded from Puddletown, Dorset, on the 14th inst. : PETER CORRIE, foreman tailor, charged with obtaining money from his master by false pretences: he is about 45 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, dark complexion, hair turning grey, walks very erect, has weak eyes, aud wears glasses ; dressed in dark clothes ; is a native of Scotland, and is well known at Greenwich, having been formerly the Ser- geant- Major of the Greenwich Artillery Volunteers. Infor mation to be given to Superintendent Batty, Dorchester, Dorset, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 28. Absconded from Crewe on the 15th instant, chargcd with perjury : MARTHA WILLIAMSON, of the Albion beerhouse, Mill- street, Crewe, about 33 years of age, about 5 feet 3 inches high, medium build, light sandy hair, fresh complexion, grey eyes, oval features, rather sharp nose and chin ; dressed, when she absconded, in a black dress and polonaise, black bonnet, and thick black fall; she is supposed to be in the neighbourhood of Gorton 13rook or Stretford, near Manchester, where she has relatives residing. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Laxton, Nantwich, or to Inspector Morris, Crewe, Cheshire, who holds a warrant for her apprehension. — Bow- street, April 26. Description of a man who gave the name of THOMAS DAVIS, charged with obtaining Goods value £ 100, by false pretences, from Mr. T. At the coroner's inquest, a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' was returned against some person or persons unknown. The body of a man nnknown, was found in a wood at Alum Scar, Pleasington, near Blackburn, on the 10th inst. : the body wf. s in a decomposed state, and appears to have been there 3 or 4 months. At a coroner'u inquest, held ou the 17th instant, a verdict of ' Found dead' was returned. The body was in such a state as to render identification impossible, only by the clothing, which consists of a blue pilot jacket, corduroy trousers, black cloth vest, and strong lace- up boots, with toe and heel plates. The man wore a green silk eye shade and a pair of old- fashioned spectacles ; a brass handle of a pocket knife, without blade, was also found. The body is about 5 feet 6 indies long, dark hair and whiskers, and bald head ; in the pockets were found a quantity of tobacco and an old pipe.
