C. * t* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any aiticle in the POLICE GAZETTE, alS Letters uddressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. By a man, about 35 years of age, 5 feet MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDIIG. Absconded from Llangarren, Herefordshire, charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm upon Police Constable Charles Williams, at Llangarren, on the morning of the 26th 5 inches high, small whiskers, ( lark complexion, and rather ultimo : 1 stoutly built ; dressed in soft bowler hat, short dirty slop, FREDERICK WHITE, alias WILLIAM WILLIAMS, and light fustian trousers. All the stolen Articles ( except 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light brown hair the overcoat, which he is supposed to be wearing) have been and small whiskers ; dressed in cord jacket aud vest, drab or recovered. They are both labourers, have the appearance of navyies, aud '• have been several times convicted of poaching, assaults ou police, & c. Supposed stolen from a field at King's Norton, on the 28th ultimo, the property of Mr. Richard Clayton : 20 wether yearling Sheep, black faced Shropshire, brand marked oa the rump. Stolen on the 13th instant, from a stable in Grove- road, Hackney : a daik bay Mare, 15 bands high, white or fore- head, two scars on off side, a little hair rubbed off fore off leg, in good condition.— Metropolilan To'ice, N Division, April 10. Description of a man who was entrusted with a brown mare Cob ( aged, 13i hands high, small white speck on fore- head, Short tail, large head aud ears, in good condition, and fore legs clipped) to take from Sittingbourne to Minster Sheppy on the 13th instant, and has not since been heard of : about 24 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, fresh com- plexion, cheerecutter cap, black coat, and old light shoes. Description of EDWIN PRIDE, a photographer's door- man, who abscondtd from Portsmouth on the 13th instant, chained with larceny: he is about 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, brown hair cut short, whiskers and moustache shaved off, prominent lower jaw, aud pale complexion ; dressed wheu last seen iu brown felt hat with wide band, short blajk coat, vest, and trousers, and old boots. During the li'glit of the 7th instant, the offices of the Cannock aud Winiblebury Colliery Compauy, Hednesford, were broken into, aud an iron safe broken open, aud about £ 8 in Gold aud Silver stolen therein. Information to be giveu to Superintendent Hill, Browuhills, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, April 9. On the 7th inst. the house of the Rev. Jas. Harsent at New Brompton, Gillingham, was broken and entered, and Brighton, a watchmaker, 23 years of age, about 5 feet 5 ins. high, thick saudy bair, thin light whiokers, small moustache, chin shaved, and slight built ; dressed in brown olive over- coat, black frock ditto, black trousers, and high black hat. £ 0 reward will be paid by Mr. Hanny, his late employer, ou conviction and recovery of the property. Stolen from a boy about 6 p. m. on the 7th instant, at Hill Rid ware : a Coat ; a Satchel, containing several ti'oks ; and 3d., the coat, satchel, and books have since been recovered. By a tramp, about 30 years ot age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion, long dark hair, short dark whiskers ; dressed in an old brown coat, ragged brown trousers, and imitation seal- skin cap, no boots or stockings. Stolen by means of shopbreaking, between the night of the 10th and the night of the 11th iustant, in Leeds : 3 plain sealskin Mantles, quilted with brown satinet, 25 inches deep. 2 plain sealskin Mantles, quilted with brown satinet, 27 iuches deep. 2 sealskin Mantles, trimmed with l eaver satinet, quilled, 25 inches deep. face, appears to have weak or sore eyes, aud may have a small light moustache ; dressed in a black cloth coat with pockets at the sides, old black silk vest, mixtuie cloth trousers, black soft billycock hat, and lace- up boots ; he has served 5 years peual servitude for horse stealing in Ireland. Absconded, charged on a warrant with embezzlement at Williugton ou the 5th instant: JOHN LISLE, 32 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark hair, turning grey, brown eyes, aud large nose ; dressed in blue pilot jacket aud round ftlt bat, carried with him a black leather satchel; he is a chemist, but has latterly been hawking jewellery. April 16 Description of two men belonging to the 7th Company 22nd Brigade, Royal Artillery, stationed at Weymouth, who deserted on the night of the 8th iust., charged with stealing two pairs of new half- wellington Boots from the barracks ; also with stealiug from an outhouse ou the Dorchester- road, where they left their uniform, a rough blue pilot cloth Coat, black horn buttons, dark lining, pockets broken at the side : JOHN DORCHERBY, about 20 years of age, 5 feet ius. high, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, and rather flat- footed, native of Londonderry; and SAMUEL SMITH, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 71 inches high, fresh complexion, sandy hair, hazel eyes, and a native of Bury, Lincolnshire. It is supposed they will sell the boots and attempt tore- enlist. Information to be given to Superintendent Vickery, Police Office, Weymouth, Dorsetshire.— Dow- street, April 12. Stolen between the hours of 9 p ra. on the 6th and 6 a. m. on the 7th instant, from Hill Farm, in the parish of Hope Mansell: one pair of dark cloth mixture Trousers, men's size, with small white spots ; one brown moleskin Vest, with three buttons off, single- breasted, staud- up collar, and watch pocket on left breast ; one dark cloth Vest, with violet spots ; one white slop Jacket, torn under left arm ; one pair of new elastic Braces ; one new blue striped buudle Handkerchief, not hemmed ; one old black Mackintosh, torn at bottom, behind ; one black soft high- crowned billycock H it ; one white handle Pocket- knife with two blades, small blade broken through the middle; a black leather Purse with steel clasp ; and a pork Hara, weighing about 12 lbs., the property of Edwin Bailey and John Owen. By a man, about 55 yis. of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, grey hair, and whiskers meeting under chin, bald on top of head, and blind of left eye ; dressed in dark brown cloth jacket, moleskin vest, cord trousers, stained iu the front, black soft high- crowned billy- cock hat, and strong boots ; he is a labourer, and is supposed to be a native of Hereford ; and stated that he was a pen- sioner. Absconded from Linslade, on the 20th ultimo, charged with i mizzling .£ 50: JAMES HAMITLON LINVELL, rate collector for the parish, 48 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, full face, and fresh complexion ; dresstd in dark clothes ; he is a superannuated inspector of Metropolitan Police, and supposed to be in or near London. Information to be given to Inspector Sapwell, Linslade, Bucks, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— How- street, April 9. Charged ( on a warrant) with felony : ALEXANDER MORTEN, late of No. 11, Angel- court, Throgmorton- street, 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark brown hair, rather sandy whiskers, no moustache, shaved under chin, pale comlexion, and proportionate build ; dresses respectably. In- formation to be given to Inspector Biiley, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, EC.— Bow- street, April 9. Stolen from a public- house in Birkenhead : one small gold Geneva Watch, enamelled case with ' D. B' on back, and long gold Chain, with gold Pencil- case, form of a cross, and set with turquoise, attached; one gold Brooch, carbuncle stone, and lady's Photo, at back ; one gold Brooch, set with three amethysts ; pair of gold sleeve Links ; one gold Ring with five opals; one imitation buckle mourning Ring, witn hair inside ; also pair of gold Eye- glasses, with black beaded Chain attached. By a man about 25 years of age, 5 ft 7 ins. high, proportionately built, round face, black moustache, no whiskers ; dressed iu a light mixed tweed coat, felt hat, and white muffler. Information to be given to Detective Inspector Moore, Biikenhead, Cheshire.— Bow- st., April 9. Stolen from a house at Swinton, about 1 p. m. ou the 5th instant : a double- breasted black cloth Vest, a pair of brown woollen Stockings, a pair of blue Braces, a woollen Shirt, a pocket Kuife, and £ 2 2s. lOd. By a youth who lodged at the house about three months : about 17 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, and has an impediment in his speech; dressed in a blue pilot jacket, light tweed trousers, lace- up boots, dark blue cap, and the stolen propeity ; he is a waggoner in a coal mine. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Bent, Old TrafFord, Lancashire. — How- street, April 9. Description of THOMAS BURNS, charged with stealing £ 17 and a pair of gold Ear- rings, from a house in Northwich, on the 3rd instant: he has been in the Army, about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, light brown hair, thiu light moustache, no whiskers, tattooed on arms, long features, and long straight nose; dressed in a brown cloth coat, velvet collar, light corduroy trousers, sealskin cap, and clogs. Information to be given to Superintendent Row- bottom, Middlewich, or to Inspector Duttan, Northwich, Cheshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 9. Absconded about the 20th December last, from No. 140. Strand, embezzling £ 60 : HENRY FANTON, 33 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion, whiskers, and hair, and of respectable appearance. Warrant issued. — Metropolitan Police, E Division, April 7. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Description of THOMAS BENNETT, a convict on license, charged under a warrant with obtaining three Sewing Machines by false pretences : 37 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, brown hair, grey eyes, fresh complexion, cut marks on bend of each arm and on nose, and several scars on back. He is an engine tenter. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Milne, County Police Office, Bury, Lancashire.— Bow- street, April 16. A man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, and dressed iu cord trousers and blue jacket, has been delivering parcels to several persons with Great Eastern Railway consignment notes, and charging various amounts for the carriage. Upon being opened, the parcels were found to contain only rubbish. Information to be given to Super- intendent Hedington, Great Eastern Railway, Bishopsgate Station, E.— Bow- street, April 12. Description of a man giving the name of ALEXANDER McALLlSTER, and states that be is a native of Ardrie, Lanarkshire, remauded until the 14th instant, charged ( with another man not in cfstody) with attempting to obtain money by falsely representing that he was to assist a poor lady to the sea- side to recruit her health. He is 56 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, grey hair and whiskers, blue eyes, large mole ou right side of nose, and walks with a stick. Information to be given to Chief Constable Poyntz, Nottingham,— Bow- street, April 9. MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATIONS. Description of two men remanded at Romford, until the 22nd instant, on a charge of uttering counterfeit coin, on the 14th instant: ROBERT WM. CAMBELL, supposed fictitious, about 34 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, no whiskers or moustache, high cheek bones, scar on nose, light brown hair ; dressed in old blue coat, mixture vest, cottou cord trousers, lace- up boots, with toe- caps, and old serge cap, with button on top; says he is a native of Newcastle on- Tyne, and employed at the North Eastern Railway Works, at New- castle, as a bricklayer. JOHN SLATER, supposed fictitious, about 29 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, rather pale complexion, long black hair, whiskers and moustache of recent growth ; dressed in old black coat, vest, and dark mixture trousers, old low shoes, and black billycock hat ; he states that he is a native of Glasgow, Scotland, is a labourer, and has travelled the country in search of work.
