C. * » * Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Ktme is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be niado and oworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War OlEce Forms 8S and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. was drowning, and the coroner's jury have returned a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' against some person or persons unknown. A reward of £ 50 will be paid by the government to any person who will give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers of the ehild, and Mr. Secretary Cross, will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon, to any accomplice not. being the actual murderer, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Absconded from Llangarren, Herefordshire, charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm upon Police Constable Charles Williams, at Llangarren, on the morning of the 26th ultimo : FREDERICK WHITE, alias WILLIAM WILLIAMS, 26 years of age, 5 feet G or 7 iuches high, light brown hair and small whiskers ; dressed in cord jacket and vest, drab or whits slop jacket, old dark tweed trousers, torn at knees, black soft billycock hat, and strong boots ; is a native of Whiteahill, near Stroud. And JESSE DAVIES, alias HENRY RUSSELL, about 29 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, light hair, whiskers, and small moustache, and large mouth; dressed in brown velveteen jacket, with large pockets inside, vest with velveteen sleeves and fustian back, moleskin trousers, turned up, black cap with peak aud brass buttons at sides, and heavy nailed boots; he had a black lurcher dog with him, and carried a small guano bag ; is a native of near Stroud. They are both labourers, have the appearance of navyies, aud have been several times convicted of poaching, assaults on police, & c. Information to be given to Superintendent Smith, Police Station, Ross, Herefordshire, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow street, April 7. On the morniug of the 30th ultimo, the dead body of a newly- born female child, quite naked, was found in a ditch by the road side near Wathngton, Oxon. It appeared by the medical testiaionv at the coionor's inquest held the same day, that the child was born alive aud was several days old, and had died by strangulation. It was tightly compressed into ] as small a parcel as possible. A verdict of 1 Wilful murder against some person unknown' was returned. Information to be given to Superintendent Seers, Police Station, Wat-, lington, Tetsworth, Oxon.— Bow street, April 2. Description of a box aud contents booked from Ripon to the city of York, on the 18th instant, which ou being opened on the 24th instant, was found to contain the dead body of a fully developed male child, there were five marks on the face, where decomposition had set in, and which appeared to correspond with the fingers and thumb of a person's hand compressing the mouth, there were no marks on the body. The medical gentleman gave his opinion that the child had been suffocated, and had been dead about a fortnight, the inquest is adjourned until Friday the 3rd of April next. A new tin bonnet box painted oak colour, grained, iron handle on lid, painted black, light blue inside, bottom black, ' 5s. 3d.' under lid, 12 ins. deep, 13 ins. by 14i ins. wide, locked with hand lock, ' N. E. R., Ripon' on lid outside ; the body was dressed in a new flannel nightgown, with tape shoulder straps, three pleats in front, herring- bone stitched, with white thread under the edges, two otrinos on each side, a new unbleached cotton nightgown, the end of the sleeves roughly cut, not finished, five strands of cotton through the slot, roughly hemmed with mauve- coloured cotton, a new unbleached cotton shirt, roughly hemmed reund, the top sleeves aud bottom not finished, new flannel hood, white gloue strings, gimped round the front, not finished, an old napkin, patched in the corner, a linen pocket handkerchief, plain hem, an old cotton handkerchief, with striped border, one comer torn off, a small piece of old scarlet flannel hemmed on one side with black thread, very small flauuel pillow, filled with saw- dust, a quantity of fine machine shavings in the bottom of the box, and a portion of the ' Manchester Daily Examiner and Times,' of Saturday, April 12th, 1873. On the night of Ihe 21st instant, the body of a newly born male child was found in the Kennett aud Avon Canal, near the^ London Bridge, Devizes, tied up in a black alpaca apron, trimmed with four rows of narrow black velvet near the bottom, a white pocket handkerchief, machine hemmed, and a small hole buri t in it, and a piece of new calico, about half a yard loug. A t the inquest held ou the 22ud instant, the medical evidence went to show that the cause of death FORGERY. Description of JOHN W. ELLIS, late a farmer, of Dacre Bank, charged ( on a warrant) with uttering a forged cheque for ,£ 15, drawn upon the North Eastern Bank, Barrow- in- Furness : about 60 years of age, about 5 feet 10 iuches high, medium build, dark brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, turning grey. Information to be given to Chief Constable Henderson, Leeds, Yorkshire.— Bvw- street, April 5. Charged on a warrant with uttering forged Bonds of the Chicago and North Western Railway of America : HENRY CLIFFORD, late of 7, Mark- lane, and 20, Royal- avenue, Sloane- square, Chelsea, 55 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, grey hair and moustache, no whiskers, grey eyes, very sallow complexion, delicate looking, slim build, wears false teeth, and is a vegetarian. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police, Detective Department, 20, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- street, March 31. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of Peter Sythgoe, in Crewe, between 6 and 10 a. m. ou the 3rd instaut: H silver lever Watch, plain case, No. 1116, maker Eckersley, and has ' Peter Sythgoe' engraved on the same plate as the maker's name ; had a plated albert Chain attached. Information to be given to Superintendent Saxton, Nautwich, or to Inspector Morris, Police Station, Crewe, Cheshire.— Bow- street, April 5. Stolen on the 22th ult., from the person of a gentleman on Bredon- hill race course, a silver hunting Watch, No. 19784, with gold Albert Chain attached, makers ' J. R. Arnold and Charles Frodsham, 84, Strand, London.' Information to be given to Superintendent Stanton, Police Office, Pershore, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, April 2. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. • ' During the n'ght of the 7th instant, the offices of the Cannock aud Wimblebury Colliery Company, Hednesford, were broken into, and an iron B£. fe broken open, and about £ 8 in Gold and Silver stolen therein. Information to be given to Superintendent Hill, Brownhills, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, April 9. On the 7th inst. the house of the Rev. Jas. Harsent at New Brompton, Gillingham, was broken aud entered, and stolen therein : a small frosted gold Brooch with red stone, a gold oval ditto with yellow stone, a small gold Watch chain with secret links, a plated ditto, round links, a ladies' gold Ring, set round with 4 torquoise stones and a small diamond in centre, 4 silver Table Spoons, marked ' S U H,' 10 silver Tea Spoons, 1 Bilver Gravy ditto, 3 silver Desert ditto, I silver Mustard ditto, 12 electro- plated Forks, and 19 Sovereigns in an old leather purse. Information to be given to Superintendent Coppinger, Kent Constabulary, Chatham, Kent.— Bow- street, April 9. Description of JOHN DEVANEY, a native of Mold, a labourer, charged ( on a warrant), with breaking into a colliery office in the parish of Nerquis, near Mold, at 3 a. m. on the 4th instant: he is 20i years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, rather long thin face, appears to have weak or sore eyes, and may have a small light moustache; dressed in a black cloth coat with pockets at the sides, old black silk vest, mixture cloth trousers, black soft billycock hat, and lace- up boots ; he has served 5 years penal servitude for horse stealing in Ireland. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Adams, or Inspector Minshull, Mold, Flintshire.— Bow- ttreet, A pril 7. Stolen from a mill in Bolton, by breaking into the same, during the night of the 5th instant : from 100 to 600 yards of grey Calico, about 38 inches wide, with three cords running through the heading. Information to be given to Chief Constable Beech, Bolton, Lancashire. — Bow- street, April 7. Between 10 p. m. 3lst ultimo . atid 5 30 a. m. on the 1st instant, the house of Daniel Raisbrook, of Ashford, Kent, was broken and entered, aud stolen therein : a dark blue rough cloth Overcoat, pockets at hips, one outside left breast, and small change pocket right side, lined with black alpaca, black velvet collar, worn ; a Tobacco Pouch, with dog's head upon it; five silver Tea Spoons, fiddle pattern ; ft pair of silver Sugar Tongs, ditto ; a round metal Tea Pot; £ L worth of bronze Coins, in 5s packets ; and two silver Thimbles. Information to be given to Superintendent Noakes, Kent County Constabulary, Ashford.— Bow- street, April 5. Stolen from a dwelling- house in Sheffield, by forcing open the dining- room window, between 12' 30 a. m. and 7 a. m. on the 4th instant: ten plain silver tea Spoons, marked ' G. T.'; six ditto, not marked ; a silver dessert Spoon, marked ' TricketL.;' an engraved silver butter Knife, with pressed silver handle. Information to be given to Chief Constable Jackson, Sheffield.— Bow- street, April 5. Description of THOMAS SMITH, of Durley, Hants, charged with breaking into the house of George Denham, at Horton Heath, in the parish of South Stoneham, on the 18th ultimo : 21 years of age, 5 feet 6 iuches high, light hair, and small light whiskers meeting under his chin ; a labourer, and will likely apply for work at farms. Information to be given to Superintendent Stannard, Hants Constabulary, Bit- terne, near Southampton, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, April 2. Stolen in Newcastle- npon- Tyne, between the 28th and 29th instant, by means of housebreaking : a large- sized gold Geneva Watch, No. 2428, had a rouud loug- linked gold Albert attached ; a large- sized silver Geneva Watch, No. 2638, had a long silver Guard attached ; an Australian nugget finger Ring ; a suit of superfine black cloth Clothes, man's size, in good condition ; a fiue blue cloth shooting Coat, double- breasted, and one pocket outside of each lap; a pair of light striped cloth Trousers, aid a double- breasted Vest of same material; a blue pilot cloth Jacket; a pair of dark striped tweed Trousers, and single- breasted Test of same material— all new, to fit a youth 10 years old, coat and jacket have ' George Senior, Tailor, Scotswood Road,' on strap inside of collars ; a baby's white satin Coat and Cape, trimmed with blue silk ; and a man's black, puce, and yellow striped woollen Shirt, new. Information to be given to Chief Constable Nicholls, Neweastle- on- Tyne.— Bow- st., March 31. During the night of the 28th instant, the workshop of Thomas Wynne, shoemaker, of Barton, Cheshire, was broken and entered, aud stolen therein : a pair of old Wellington Boots, partly soled, with the lasts in them, tops inside lined with red leather ; a List Hook ; and two Awls. Supposed by a man, about 5 feet 7 inches high ; dressed in dark round jacket, and black cloth cap, with French peak, who was seen near the premises at 3 30 a. m. on the 29th instant. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Wilson, Tattenhall, or to Sergeant Bethell, Police Station, Farndon, Cheshire.— Bono- street, March 31. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen on the 29th ult., from Shrubland- road, Dalston : a light brown horse Pony, 12 hands high, in good condition. By a youth, 19 years of age, 5 feet C inches high; dressed in daik clothes and felt hat.— Metropolitan Police, N Division, April 2. Stolen : a chesnut Cob, about 14 bands high, aged, two white'hind joints, blazing white face, white chin, with a black spot on under lip, marked shoulders, and broken knees. A lad, who gave the uame of BROWN, from Worthing, about 16 years of age, 5 feet G iuches high, dark brown hair, dark eyes, rather full, slight build, dressed in dark clothes, straw hat, aud a pair of well- made half boots, and carrying a white cane in his hand, weat to Mr. Herriott's yard, in West- street, Brighton, on the 23rd instant, anil hired the above cob for two hours' ride, but has not returned. £ 2 reward. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Constable White, Town Hall, Brighton, Sussex, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, March 31. Found ( supposed stolen) at Severn Stoke, on the 6th instant : eighteen dark- faced yearling Sheep. Information to be given to Superintendent Checketts, Police Office, Upton- on- Seven, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, March 31. A man calling himself JOHN HUNT, a grocer's assistaut, is remanded until the 1st proximo, charged with stealing a Donkey : he is 18 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, light brown hair, grey eyes, fresh complexion ; dressed iu blue ribbed cloth coat, dark trousers, with a light stripe, spring side boots, aud hard black felt hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Bridges, Police Station, Brentwood, Essex.— Bow- street, March 31. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded from Linslade, on the 20th ultimo, charged with embezzling ^£, 0: JAMES HAMILTON LINVELL, rate collector for the parish, 4S years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, full face, and fresh complexion ; dressed in dark clothes ; he is a superannuated inspector of Metropolitan Police, and supposed to be in or near London. Information to be given to Inspector Sapwell, Linslade, Bucks, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 9. Charged ( on a warrant) with felony : ALEXANDER MORTEN, late of No. II, Angel- court, Throgmorton- street, 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark brown hair, rather sandy whiskers, 110 moustache, shaved under chin, pale comlexion, and proportionate build ; dresses respectably. Description of THOMAS BURNS, charged with stealing £ 17 and a pair of gold Ear- rings. from a house in Northwicb, on the 3rd instant: he has been in the Army, about 30 years of age, about 6 feet 8 iaches high, light browu hair, thin light moustache, no whiskers, tattooed on arms, long features, and long straight nose ; dressed in a brown cloth coat, velvet collar, light corduroy trousers, sealskin cap, and clogs. Absconded on the 30th ultima, stealing £ 77, the monies of his employer, from North- street, Spitalfields : a man, 40 years of age, 5 fee* 4 inebes high, dark complexion, brown hair, beard, and moustaehe, pockmarked ; dressed in brown coat, cord trousers, white scurf with blue spots, fur cap, and lace- up Loots ; it is supposed that he will endeavour to go to America.— Metropolitan Pokee, H Division, April 5. Absconded oa the 30th ultimo, from Cun- street, Spital- fields, stealing 17 dozen; Rabbit Skins, the property of his employer : a man, 45 years of age, 6 feet 2 inches high, dark ; dressed ill light brown coat, dark trousers, and fur cap.— Metropolitan Police, H Division, April 5. Stolen from the Marlborough Tap common lodging- house, Ashford, Kent, on the night of the 30th ultimo: a blue Guernsey, two Stove Brushes, two white Scrubbing Brushes, and a piece of Clothes Line, about 24 yards long. Charged ( on a warran^ Twitb embezzlement: CHARLES FRASER, late of No. 8, the Grove, Ealing, 42 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, bluish grey eyes, red hair, fresh complexion, sandy or red whiskers, and stout build; dresses respectably. Charged on a warrant with stealing a Parse, containing 1 Sovereign in Gold, 8s. in Silver, 4 Farthings, and a watch Guard, on the 23rd ultimo, the property of John Auckland, tailor, his master, of Stow, near Gainsborough : SAMUEL MOORE, 16 ye?. rs of aje, 5 feet 6" iriche3 high, fair com- plexion, brown eyes, black hair, and slim make ; dressed iu dark clothes, and has a respectable appearance. He left Gainsborough on the 21th ultimo for Hull, he having friends in the East Riding of York. Information to be given to Superintendent Wright, County Police Station, Lincoln.— Bow- street, April 2. Description of HENRY LINGER, charged with em- bezzling a quantity of Canton Plait ( since recovered), of the value of about £ 7 : about 23 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, fair completion, brown hair cat short, very slight light moustache, ahd has a red nose from a birth mark ; dressed when last seen in a dark overcoat, grey trousers and Vest, spring- Bide boots, and a black felt billycock hat; he is likely to seek employmert as a clerk or porter in a hat or bonnet warehouse. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Con- stable Pope, Luton, Beds, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- itreet, April 2. Stolen on the 24th ultimo, from a dwelling- house at Bulwell : a lady's gold horizontal keyless Watch, gold dial, and black figures, with a gold Albert Guard and Pendant attached, and £ 10 in Gold. By HENRY WIDDOWSON, alias WILLIAM PRINCE, a native of Bulwell, 24 years of age, about 5 feet inches high ; well dressed, in dark coat, light muffler, and round hard felt hat; he- deserted from the 12th Lancers in 1874, from Leeds, where he is also want « l for felony ; he has been several times convicted of felony, and was released from Southwell House of Correction in November last. Charged on a warrant with embezzlement: WILLIAM VANCE FEAST, formerly resided at Glen Cottage, Petersham, about 40 years cf age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark hair and whiskers, shaved under chin, full face, stoutly built; dressed respectably, and of gentlemanly appearance.
