Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or Btolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. %* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is gives, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS. MURDEB AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Description of a man charged with causing the death of his daughter: WILLIAM CHORLEY, 45 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, dark hair and eyes, small and fair whiskers and moustache; dressed in dirty black suit and billycock hat; he frequents common lodging- houses, and may apply for admission to casual wards ; he is a natiye of Wellington, Somersetshire, and has a relative, a baker, in TinstoX.— Metropolitan Police, R Division, March 5. Charged with the murder of his wife Margaret Jones, at 37, Ben Johnson- street, Liverpool, on the 6th ultimo : HENRY JONES, a tramping navvy, from 45 to 50 years of age, about 5 feet 10£ inches high, sandy hair and whiskers, fair complexion, strong made, broad shoulders, rather thin face, grey or blue eyes, rather loug straight nose, and small mouth; dressed in drab shooting coat, large pockets with flaps, large white pearl or bone buttons, double- breasted vest to match, with two rows of pearl buttons, dirty white slop over the vest, barrigan trousers, turned up at bottom of legs, short leggings underneath, heavy lace- up boots, and cap or billycock hat. He is a native of Shropshire or Welshpool. Has worked at Barrow- in- Furness and in Cheshire, and about a fortnight since was employed on a railway being made between Nottingham and Melton Mowbray ; he is well known to contractors and sub- contractors for the con- struction of new lines of railway. Her Majesty's Secretary of State far the Home Department, has authorised the pay- ment of a reward of £ 50 to any person giving such information and evidence as will lead to his discovery and conviction. Information to be given ta Head Constable Greig, Liverpool, Lancashire.— Bow- street, March 5. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of Mr. John Granger, at Cotten- ham Steeplechase, on the 18th ult. : a gold Geneva Watch, No. 41622, having attached to it a gold Albert Chain, a plain gold Locket, a Ring without stoue, a Compass, and a Key. £ 10 reward will be paid on conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Stretten, Chesterton- road, Cambridge.— Bow- street, March 3. Absconded frcm Leeds, charged with assault and robbery on the 22nd ultimo : ANTHONY GROGAN, a private in the 25th Foot, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, rather stout build, fresh complexion, sandy hair cut short, no beard, slight moustache, long eyelashes, small eyes, supposed grey, and the lower lip hangs down a little. Infor- mation to be given at the Central Police Office, Town Hall, Leeds, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, March 1. Between 6 and 8 p. m. on the 21st instant, the dwelling- house of Mary Partridge, New- road, Chatham, was entered by means of skeleton keys, and stolen therein : an old- fashioned pinchbeck Watch, £ 4 10s. in Gold, and 8s. € d. in Silver. Information to be given to Superintendent Coppinger, Police Court, Chatham, Kent.— Bow- street, Febtvary 24. Stolen by means of breaking into the warehouse of Mr. Henry Fairbank, of Humbleton, East Riding of York, on the night of the 17th instant: a shoulder of Bacon, about 12 lb. ; a pair of Trousers, brown mixture cloth, nearly new; two VestB, black cloth, single breasted, nearly new ; a grey witney cloth Topcoat, about half worn ; three pairs of new Boots, women's size, one pair 5s., rivelted, two pairs sewn, 7s., levant tops; a new linen bed Tick ; about 4 lbs. of grey Worsted; and a quantity of Note Paper and Envelopes. Information to be given to Superintendent Watson, East Riding Constabulary, Sproatley, Hull— Bcno- street, Feb. 24. Stolen between 1 and 3 p. m. on the 16th instant, by means of housebreaking, from a dwelling- house in Salford : a silver Gravy Spoon, with a squirrel on front & ' W. E. & H.' on back ; a large- sized ditto, marked ditto ; two silver Salt Spoons, with ' W. E. & H.' on back ; a Butter Knife, silver blade and ivory handle ; twelve electro- plated Dessert Forks; twelve electro- plated Table Forks; two large- sized electro- plated Ladles; twelve Table Knives, with white handles ; a gold Brooch, with gold leaves round the edges, and carbuncle stone in centre ; a pair of gold Ear- rings, with plain drop; a silver Brooch, set with an amethyst, round which are set a number of paste diamonds; a silver Chain, with label attached, on which is engraved the word ' Rum a ditto, ditto, ' Brandy a miniature Portrait, representing a gentleman dressed in the costume of a century ago, with powdered hair, painted on ivory, and set in dead gold ; and an ivory Brooch, in the shape of a serpent, with steel pin. A reward of £ 2 will be paid to any person who will give such information as Bhall lead to the apprehension of the offenders and recovery of the property, or in proportion thereto. Also stolen, by means of housebreaking, between 3 and 5 p. m. on the 4th instant, from a dwelling- house in Salford : ten silver Tea Spoons, marked ' G. ;' six ditto, marked ' Y.;' six ditto, marked ' S. H. ;' two small ditto, not marked ; four silver Table Spoons, marked ' D. two ditto, marked ' Y. two electro- plated Tea Spoons, marked ' D. a pair of silver Sugar Tocgs, chased ; a pair of gold Spectacles, in green case ; a lady's gold Ring, set with one ruby and two jiearls ; a gold plated Necklet, with mourning cross attached ; a lady's gold watch Chain, diamond cut cable link pattern ; two plain gold Studs ; two masonic ditto ; a pair of gold Sleeve Links ; a pair of gold plated ditto ; a silver Brooch, with the word ' Regard' enamelled on it in silver letters ; a plain silver Fruit Knife; a silver Fruit Knife, with pearl handle; an oval shaped reversible Brooch, set on one side with a ruby, round whijh are four pearls, chased, and kas a place for a portrait on the other; a gold mourning Locket, with a strap across it, on which are the words ' In memory of,' containing two portraits; a gold cameo Brooch, with pendant attached, with a figure on each representing the bust of a woman, and the brooch contained the portrait of a gentleman at the back ; a pair of Ear- rings to match ; and a pair of gold Ear- rings, each consisting of two chased rings linked, with a bar across the lower ring, in which are set a ruby and a pearl. Information to be given to Chief Constable Torrens, Town Hall, Salford, Lancashire.— Bow- street, February 24. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. On the evening of the 28th ultimo, a cottage at Burwell, near Newmarket, was broken and entered, and stolen : two silver table Spocns, marked ' O. S. C.'; six silver tea Spoons, marked ' A. C.'; two silver salt Spoons; a pair of silver sugar Tongs ; 2s., of the reign of Elizabeth ; and two gold Rings, one a wedding ring, the other a keeper, both old and broken. Information to be given to Superintendent Benson, Newmarket, Cambridge.— Bow- street, March 5. During the night of the 27th ultimo, the dwelling- house of Mr James Scott, High House, Alnwick, was broken into, and the following articles stolen therein : twelve silver tea Spoons, marked ' J. S.'; nine silver dessert Spoons, marked ' J. S.'; four silver teatSpoocs, marked ' B.'; a silver soup Ladle; twelve electro- plated table Forks ; twelve table Knives, white handles, stamped on blade ' Jamison & Co., Newcastle'; five dessert Knives, stamped on blade ' Jamison and Co., Newcastle'; £ 14 10s. in Gold ; and £ 2 53. in Silver. Information to be given to Superintendent Harkes, Alnwick, Northumberland,— Bow- street, March 3. Hill, Norwood : a brown Horse, 14J hands high, and a black Mare 14 hands high, with rough coat; also two milk Carts, with ' T. French, Gipsy Hill Dairy,' on both sides ; ' Pure Milk and Cream,' on tail- board ; and Three Sets of Harness, brass mounted.— Metropolitan Police, P Division, February 24. Found at Aldridge ( supposed to have been stolen), on the 5th instant, sever: Heifers, four red & white, one red, one black, and one white. Information to be given tc Sergeant Arnold, Rushall, or to Police Constable Willis, Aldridge, near Walsall, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, February 24, HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen on the 22nd ultimo, from Perry Hill, Lewisham : a dark bay half- bred Gelding, 6 years old, 15 hands high, black legs, mane, and tail, small saddle mark, slightly lame of off fore leg, and small chip on knees.— Metropolitan Police, P Division, March 5. Description of a lad who gave the name of BUROW, who said that he came from a school at Maidenhead, about 16 years of age, tall for his age, pale thin face, long dark hair; dressed in dark clothes, college hat, light mackintosh, black velvet collar, and stated he was going to Hounslow to fetch his mother, charged with stealing a cob Horse and dog Cart, which he hired from the Bull Inn, Windsor : the cob is about 14 hands high, light cream colour, black mark from shoulders to tail, about 1 inch wide, mane on right side of neck, has been clipped some time since, under lip hangs low, tail about 2 feet long ; the dog cart is small, painted black pieked out with red, tail board marked ' Knowles & Son, Windsor,' which is covered with oilcloth, and is a small dice pattern. Five guineas reward will be paid on the apprehension and conviction of the offender and recovery of the cob aud dog cart, by the treasurer of the Windsor Association. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Hayes, Windsor, Berks, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- st., Match 1. Charged with stealing a Bullock, the property of Mr. James Jones, of the Wells Farm, Cradley, near Malvern ( since recovered), on the 17th instant. A man, about 40 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, stout build, fair complexion, light hair and whiskers, inclined to be sandy; dressed in dark grey coat or jacket, light coloured trousers, and new soft billycock hat. Has the appearance of a farm bailiff. Information to be given to Superintendent Har- wood, Bromyard, or to Sergeant Ovens, Cradley, near Malvern, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, February 26. Stolen during the night of the 12th instant, from Central LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded, on the 17th ultimo, from Mortimer- street. Cavendish- square, charged with embezzling various sums of Money, and also for Forging an endorsement to a Cheque for £ 18 4s.: a man, 34 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, sallow complexioa, dark brown hair and eyes, and stoutly built; dressed in black frock coat and vest, grey trousers, and high black hat, a clerk, and of respectable appearance.— Metropo- litan Police, E Division, March 5. Stolen from the ' Granby' inn. Melton Mowbray, during the night of the 27th ultimo : a blue pilot Coat, nearly new, red and black check lining, black bone buttons, two outside and one inside pockets ; a pair of moleskin Trousers ; a cord Waistcoat, with white bone buttons ; a calico Shirt, mended on shoulders ; a pair of blue worsted Stockings ; and a pair of brown leather Leggings ; the property of Richard Lee, a lodger at the above iun. By a fellow lodger named JOHN PAYNE, alias GLORY PAYNE, alias LEICESTER JACK, 25 to 30 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, light hair, clean shaved, rather fresh looking, and has a large scar by the side of one eye ; dressed in the stolen clothes, and a brown cloth cap, with a tassel on the top. He generally works at brickyards or on railways., frequents low public or beer hcuses, and sings Irish and comic songs, and he seldom stays long in one place. Information to be given to Superintendent Platts, Leicestershire Constabulary, Melton Mowbray, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, March 5. Description of WALTER BULLIN GENT, charged on a warrant with embezzling several sums of Money ( he tad been, up to the 25th ultimo, for four years a clerk in the Custom- house at Sunderland) : about 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark hair parted down the front, dark sallow complexion, small dark whiskers and moustache, and smart appearance, a native of King's- Lynn, Norfolkshire ; dressed in a light drab overcoat, black felt hat, and check tweed suit; he is very fond of the company of music- hall singers ; when last seen he wore a valuable diamond ring, which he is likely to dispose of. Information to be given to Chief Constable Stainsby, Sunderland, Dnrham.— Bow- street, March 5. Absconded on the 24th ultimo, charged on a warrant with embezzlement: JAMES BARRY, about 38 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark brown hair, rather curly, beard and moustache, bald from forehead to back of head, and the hair from side of head combed over bald part, stout build, nails of thumbs much bitten, and the fleshy pact projecting over the nails ; well dressed, a clerk. £ 10 reward on apprehension. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.- Bow- sti eet, March 3. Description of CAROLINE MAY, charged with stealing £ 3 10s. at Tillington, on the 30th January : she is IS years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, thin face, fresh complexion, and light brown hair ; dressed in a brown dress, with light stripe, black cloth jacket, black bonnet, with blue trimming and strings, and elastic- side boots; she took a ticket at Petworth Railway Station for Victoria Station, and is supposed to be in London. Information to be given to Superintendent Kemmish, West Sussex Constabulary, who holds a warrant for her apprehension.— Bow- street, March 3. Further information respecting GEORGE ALBERT SKELLEY, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 8th Jauuary last, charged with larceny at Market Drayton : he is a cooper, 25 to 30 years of age, brown hair, little over 5 feet high ; he is supposed to be living with a young woman who left Drayton to join him on the 22nd ultimo: she is 18 years of age, Elender, dark brown hair, dark complexion ; he is supposed to be working for some cooper. Information to be given to Superintendent Haines, Whitchurch, or to Sergeant Howell.', Market Drayton, Salop.— Bow- street, March 3. Description of ALFRED GREGORY, a tramping tailor, charged on a warrant with stealing an unfinished Coat, from a shop at ElUnd cum Greetland, near Halifax, Yorkshire : he is about 28 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark complexion, hazel eyes, dark brown hair, and wears a moustache, a tailor by trade, native of London, last resit. ed at Elland cum Greetland ; dressed in black frock coat, dark cloth trousers, aud low felt bat. 10s. reward will be given on his apprehension. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Orrasby, West Riding Constabulary, Halifax.— Boxo- street, March 3. Description of CHAS. MOORE FELLS, of Hitchin, Assistant Overseer, charged with embezzling divers sums of Monies, the property of the Overseers of Hitchin : 30 years of age, 0 feet high, fair complexion, thin face, sickly appear- ance, face a Utile freckled, long nose, light brown hair, and 2 P O L I C E G A Z E T T E. March 12 small whiskers. He absconded from Hitchin on the night of the 24th ultimo, by the G. N. Railway to London, and stopped at the G. N. U. Hotel, King's Cross, accompanied by a woman ; they left the hotel in a c. ib about 11- 30 a. m.. 23th ultimo, lie gave the name of SUMMERS at the hotel. ,£ 50 reward will be paid for information as will lead to his apprehension. Information to be given to Inspector Young, Hitchin, Herts, who holds a warrant for his arrest, or to Sergeant Lansdown, Detective Department, Scotland- yard. — Bow- street, March 3. Description of GEORGE STANLEY, charged with stealing the sum of £ 10, belonging to Charles Parsons, of Birmingham, his master : he is 21 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, sandy hair, oval face, and round shouldera ; dressed when lie absconded in dark clothes and " black billycock hat. It is said that ho may give the name of CONFORD, instead of Stanley, the latter supposed to be fictitious. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Glossop, Police Office, Birmingham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 1. Stolen on the 19th ultimo, from the dwelling- house of Mrs. Whetton, of Pelsall, Staffordshire, the property of George Rutter, a lodger : £ 2 10s. in Gold and Silver, a woollen Shirt, and a plaid woollen Scarf. By a man, who had been lodging at the house, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, round face, and slight sandy whiskers ; dressed in a blue pilot jacket, white slop underneath, cord trousers, and old soft black billycock bat; supposed to be a native of Leamington, hat" a rough voice, and fond of singing in public- houses. Information to be given to Superintendent Hill, or to Sergeant Arnold, Rushall, near Walsall, Stafford- shire.— Bow- street, Mutch 1. Absconded from Alfriston, Sussex, on the 19th ultimo, charged with stealing two bushels of Potatoes: JOHN GEAL, a labourer, 28 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, light complexion, blue e*> es, light brown hair, and . stout figure ; dressed in dark trousers, dark slop, dark cap, with ear flaps, red scarf, and old boots. And JOHN KEMP, a labourer, 23 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, light complexion, light brown hair, and stout figure ; dressed in dark cap, dirty light slop, dirty okl cord trousers, and very old boots. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, or to Superintendent Waghorn, Hailsham, Sussex, who holds a warrant for their apprehension,— Bow- Street, March 1. Stolen on the 24th nit., from Herbert- street, Hackney : 56£ pairs of boot Uppers, twelve ladies', marked ' Swiss, No. 576' inside ; twelve ditto plain, six ditto plain, scolloped toecaps, marked ' 553' inside, four and a halt strap, toecsps, twelve plain, French toecaps, and ten gills' kid, buttoned, patent goloshed. By a man with dark complexion and hair, no beard or whiskers, and dressed in plaid overcoat, trousers, and vest, and black felt hat.— Metropolitan Police, N Divi- sion, March 1. Stolen from the dwelling- house of Hannah Wells, at New Holland, on the 22nd instant: a pair of black velvet Bracelets, gold clasps, sec round with pearls ; a pair of Bracelets, either gold or plated beads, large clasps, with grey stones in centre ; a pair of Bracelets, jet round, and long beads strung on elastic ; a pair of silver sleeve Links ; a gold finger Bing ; and a gold scarf Ring. By JOSEPH WILLIAMS, a man who lodged in the house, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stoutly built, swarthy complexion, blown hair and whiskers, has a scar on forehead from right eyebrow to top of nose ; dressed in a cloth reefer jacket, cloth vest and trousers, black and white scarf, blue serge shirt, soft billy hat, and laced boots ; was traced to Hull, where he pawned the sleeve links and scarf ling ; he is supposed to be well known at Retford, York, Boston, and London; stated he worked for a firm of patent signal erectors. Warrant issued. Information to be given to Superintendent Fuller, Barton- on- Humber, Lincolnshire,—- Bow- street, February 26. Description of HENRY THOMPSON, charged in the borough of Leeds, as a fraudulent bailee : he is from 40 to 50 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, thin build, no beard or moustache, rtiddy complexion, smooth hair, turning grey, wears spectacles, walks slightly lame of one foot; is a reader in a reporter's office. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Leeds.— Bow street, 1< elrvary 26. Stolen from a lodging- house in Middlesborough, on the 22nd instant : a pepper- and- salt- ooloured cloth shooting Coat, roan's size, trimmed with bone buttons, the top one of a different kind ; a Vest-, made of same material ; a pair of new black cotton cord Tronsers, with full fall; and a pair of elastic Braces. By EDWARD CALVERT, a labourer or horse driver, a native of Thirsk, North Riding of Yovkshire about 23 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fjesh looking, squints with both eyes, short to. igUed, li » ht whiskers meeting under the chin, and short cuily hair ; dressed when last seen in an old light cloth coat, slack backed, vest similar, old dark cloth trousers with blue stripes, scarf of different colours, stiff body hat, and had with him three bundles. Ho v. as tried at Northallerton Sessions on the 16th October, 1872, and sentenced to 12 months imprisonment and 5 years police supervision, and he should report himself monthly to the police. Information tc be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Middlesborough, Ypikshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 26. Stolen on the 14th instant, from the dwelling- house of Joseph Dunn, of Portobello, in tho township of Willenhall: a silver verge Watch, No. 4124 ; a pair of Stockings and a flag Basket. By a man who took lodgings at Damio house, about 40 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high,- sandy hair, cut very short, very long thick sandy whisker.!, meeting under the chin, top lip thick, iind gave the name of GEORGE HOWERS, proper name GEO. THOMAS ; had on a very low hard hat, dark cloth jacket, with pockets each side, dark striped rest, and clogs. A warrant has been issued for his apprehension. Information to be given to Inspector Gasson, Police Office, Willenhall, Staffordshire.— Bow- streel, February 26. FELONIES. ( Not otherwise described). Description of FRANCIS PHILLIP WHEELER, charged upon a warrant with bigamy : about 27 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, black hair, whiskers down sides of face, and moustache, and stoutly built; dressed ia a rough blue pilot topcoat, with velvet collar. Information to be given to Chief Constable Hunt, Town Hall, Leeds, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, March 1. Description of PETER CRIMM, charged with an aggravated assault upon a child; 27 year,•) of age, 5 feet G inches high ; a Mechanic or Fitter, medium build, black hair, brown eyes, and sallow complexion, wound on neck from abscesses, scar on upper part of left arm. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Leeds.— Bow- street, March 1. Description of two men charged with indecently assaulting a servant girl, about 17 years of age, on tho high- way at Packington, near Lichfield, on the 21st instant : both about 35 years of age, of medium height, dark brown hair, one had a small dark moustache, the other small dark whiskers round his face, both of slender build, and sallow complexion ; dressed in drab slops, cord trousers, very old shoes, cut in the fronts, and black billycock hats. They had the appearance of tramping navvies. Information to be given to Sergeant Hammond, Police- office, Shenstone, near Lichfield.— Bow- street, February 26. FRAUDS AMD AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOUR.
