Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the Bame, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any aiticle in the TOLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor wsiist l » e prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded fen War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOHUDING. About noon on the 21st instant the dead body of a full- grown female Child was found in a dike in Peterborough " wrapped in new unbleached calico, black wadding and brown paper, a piece of black braid was lound tied tightly round the child's neck. At the inquest a verdict was returned of Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown. Information - to be given to the Head Constable, Police ' Station, Peterborough, Northamptonshire.— Bow- st., Jan. 1. A reward of £ 100 ( in addition to the £ 100 already offered, and to be paid by Her Majesty's government), will be paid by the family of the deceased James Beech, of . Betchton, in the county of Chester, who was murdered in his house on the 23id of September last, to any person or persons who will give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers, such not being the person or persons who Lave actually com- mitted the murder. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Roubottom, Constabulary Station, Middlewich, or at any of ths Police Stations in the couuty of Chester.— Boa- street, December 28. About 2 a. m. on the 19th instant, the dead Body of a full- grown female Child was found in an entry in Chancery- lane, in the borough of Bolton, wrapped in a portion of the * Bolton Weekly Guardian ' newspaper, dated Nov. 15, 1874. At the inquest a verdict was returned of ' Wilful murder against some person or persons unknown.' Information to be given to Chief Constable Beech, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, Deeember 24. Description of JOHN MORAN, against whom a warrant has been issued, charging him with the wilful murder of Charles Langley, alias Bough Charlie, who died on the 2nd instant, from the effects of an assault committed upon him Oy Moran on the 26th lilt., on which date Moran absconded : about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or G inches high, luddy com- plexion, round features, brown hair, cut short, scar on left • chcekbone, and clean shaved ; dressed usually as a horse dealer, which occupation he follows ; he is well known at the principal markets and fairs in the kingdom, and baa also been engaged in England and Ireland as a trotting match rider. It is supposed that be will endeavour to emigrate. A reward of £ 50 will be paid by ner Majesty's Government to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension of the said John Moran. Information to be given to Chief Constable Glossop, Police Office, Birming- ham.— Bow- street, December 23. pair of light coloured Bedford cord Trousers ; and a pair of men's new lace- up Boots. Two men were seen near the place about the time, one wearing a billycock hat, the other a cap ; one of them is supposed to be wearing the stolen jacket. Information to be given to Superintendent Dale, County Police Office, Macclesfield, Cheshire.— Bow- street, December 28. Description of two men who absconded from South- ampton, on the 12th instant, charged with housebreaking, and stealing two gold Watches : NOAH LEE, 22 years of age, 5 feet 7£ inches high, dark hair, eyes, and complexion, scar on forehead near left eye, a gipsy, but his worked as a stcker in steam boats ; dressed in blue monkey jacket, blue cloth trousers, Scotch cap, with feather in it, and large muffler haudkercliief, tied loosely round his neck. WILLIAM SULLIVAN, alias LEE, 19 years of ago, 5 feet 4} inches high, dark brown hair, fresh complexion; dressed in blue cloth trousers, serge frock, has the appearance of a nian- of- war's- man. They had in their possession a lady's gold Geneva Watcli, plate glass, metal dome, and chased back. Information to be given to Head Constable Breary, Southampton, who holds a wairant for their apprehension. — Bow- street, December 23. Stolen in the borough of Newcastle- on- Tyne, on the 20th instant, by mean9 of housebreaking: a gold Chain and Pendant, with glass back, large ruby and pearl in centre ; a gold Scarf Pin, with dark blue star and pearl in centre : a lady's small gold Geneva Watch, gold dial and chapters, steel hands, No. 2280 ; a gold Watch, without the back and out of repair ; a gold wedding Ring; a gold finger lling, set with two yellow stones and one red ditto ; a gold mourning Ring, with ' W. W.' inside; a gold keeper King, black enamelled, witli the words ' In memory of a pair of gold : Spectacles ; a pair of silver Ear- rings ; a silver patent lever I Watch, No. 507G ; a silver Butter Ivnife ; a round silvef plated Cake Basket, handle bent a little to one side ; a ; ilver plated Sugar Basin, blue glass inside ; a silver plated Teapot, blue ground, with white flower in centre ; a silver plated Toast rack ; a gutta percha Tobacco Pouch ; and an oid silver Watch, silver guard Chain, doubled in four lengths, attached. Information to be given to Chief Constable Nicholls, Newcastle- on- Tyne.— Bow- street, December 23. FORGERY. Absconded on the 24th ultimo, charged en a warrant with forgery: WALTER COLLIS, | 18 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, daik complexion, hair, and eyes, slight moustache, oval face; dressed in grey overcoat, blue serge yachting jacket under, da; k vestand trousers, high hat; walks very erectly and is of gentlemanly appearance ; friends reside at Cherry Orchard- road, Croydon. Information to be given to the City of London Police, Bow- lane Station.— Bow- street, December 21. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Further information respecting the three Hereford I Heifers, stolen ficm Morehampton Park, as advertised in the Police Gazette of the 16th instant : they were missed on j the 1st instant, and not on the 11th instant, as before stated. I Any person giving such information that will lead to their recovery, and conviction of the offender or offenders, will be handsomly rewarded. Stolen from a stable at Bradford Farm, Witheridge, about 6 p. m. on the 26th iustant: a light bay cart Mare, 6 years old, lately clipped, in fair condition, 14i hands high, hind legs white, one white forefoot, white face, and the fore feet turn out. Information to be given to Superintendent Wood, B Division, Devon Constabulary, South Molton.— Bow- street, December 30. Description of WILLIAM INGRAM, for whose appre- hension a warrant has been issued for stealing two Steers ( recovered), the property of George Redman, at Lullingstone : He is about 22 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, dark hair, and whiskers shaved off ; dressed in black frock or dark brown coat, cord trousers, brown woollen waistcoat, lace- up boots, dark brown dog skin cap, is a drover and a native of Ivy Hatch, Wrotham, Kent; has been convicted of felony, is kLown at the Spur public- house, Borough, London, and is supposed to be residing at or near to 4, King's- place, South- w irk, London. Information to be given to Superintendent Fread, Kent Constabulary, Dartford.— Bow- street, Dec. 28. Stolen from a field near Grove House, Cheshunt, on the 1st instant: a chestnut mare Pony, 12i hands high, hog mailed, and has a blemish on near fore fetlock. £ 10 reward will be paid to auy person giving such information as shall lead to the appreheusion and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the Pony. Information to be given at the Cheshunt Police Station, Herts.— Bow- street, Dec. 23. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. During the night of the 22nd instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Carrills, Wollaton, near Nottingham, was broken and entered by two men, and it is believed that one or both of them was wounded wnile making their escape through the window by shots from a revolver : one is a stout man. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Palethorpe, County Police Station, Nottingham.— Bou- sireei, December 80. Stolen about 12 noon on the 22nd instant, from the dwelling- house of Thomas Cooper, of Kettleshulme, collier, by picking the lock of the front door : a black cloth Jacket and Vest, quite new; a grey mixture Jacket and Vest; a LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded on the 18th ultimo, charged on a warrant with stealing two suits of Clothes, one black mixture, and one white check : WILLIAM SMITH, a groom, 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fair complexion, small whiskers ; he is a native of Reading, and has been in service at Ryde, Isle of Wight. Information to be given to the Superintendent of Police, Town Hall, Folkestone, Kent.— Bow street, Jan. 1. ALICE WALTON, charged with larceny, as advertised in the Police Gazette of the 21st ult., has been apprehended. — Bow- street, January 1. Stolen from the dwelling- house of Angus Griffiths, of Ironville, in the county of Derby, on the 24th iustaut : a dark blue pilot Jacket, with black horn buttons, double- breasted, and bound with black worsted braid, and a round hard black Hat. By a lodger named JOHN GAMBLE, of Wigston, Leicester, about 23 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark brown hair and moustache ; dressed iD pepper- and- salt coloured jacket, cord trousers, fly fronts, and is supposed to be wearing the stolen jacket over his own. He has travelled about the country with a shooting gallery. Information to be given lo Superintendent Coope, Alfreton, Derbyshire, who hvlds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Deccmberr 30. Absconded from Browe, Norfolk, on the 15th instant, charged with larceny : HENRY, alias HARRY HUNT, a labourer, about 60 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, slender build, dark complexion, dark short hair, turning grey, and no whiskers ; dressed in a brown velveteen coat, cord, trousers, dark hairy cap, and lace- up boots. Informa- tion to be given to the Police, Bungay, Suffolk.— Bow- street, December 28. Stolen from a dwelling- house in Rochdale, on the 18th ultimo : a pair of dirty Bedford cord Trousers ; a pair of black cloth Trousers, lined ; a pair of black and white striped moleskin Trousers ; a black cloth shooting Coat, two pockets outside, one left breast ; a dark brown plush Vest; a dark cloth Vest ; a pair of Wellington Boots, not much worn ; two white flannel Singlets ; a black and while plaid woollen Shirt ; three pairs of worsted Stockings ; a pair of lace- up Boots, in good repair ; and a large blue and white coloured Handkerchief. By a lodger, giving the name of JOHN MORRIS, supposed to be a collier, and a native of Staffordshire : about 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, very dark complexion, dark hair and moustache, round face, and hair cut short. Absconded on the ISLh instant from Warran- street, Fitzroy- square, stealing— a gold Geneva Watch; a lady's gold neck Chain ( jack pattern), Locket attached ( portrait of a child one side, hair reverse ; a gold Brooch, oval shape : 1 a Bonnet, trimmed with black and violet feathers; and a grey linsey Dress, trimmed with black velvet : a woman, ; 22 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, fair complexion, and blue eves ; of respectable appearance.— Metropolitan Police, E Diti? ii> i\, December 21. ( By a watchmaker, named Henry Brown, who absconded at 8 p. m. ou the 21st instant : he is about 37 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, rather slender, dark complexion, long moustache, twisted up at the ends ; dressed in a black cloth suit, trousers tight at kuees, and loose bottoms, and black silk hat; he was formerly in buisness as a watchmaker in Fownes- street, Dublin. A reward of £ 20 will be paid for his apprehension, and recovery of the property, or in propor- tion to the v alue recovered. Information to be given at the Detective Office, Cheapside, Manchester.— Bou- street, Dec. 24. Description of JOHN ROBERTS, a Welshman, charged upon a warrant with embezzlement : 29 years uf age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, rather stoutly built, fresh complexion, full face, black hair, dark brown whiskers and moustache ; dressed in black billycock hat, black pilot cloth monkey jacket, with velvet collar, white fustian double- breasted vest, two rows of black buttons, new corduroy trousers, fall front, grey flannel shirt, with red stripes, coloured woollen muffler, strong lace- up boots, with tips on heels and toes. He can speak a little English, and was seen on the 18th instant at Criccieth, Carnarvonshire. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Hughes, Towyn, oi to Sergeant Jones, Four Crosses, Festiniog, Merionethshire.— Bow- street, December 24. Absconded on the 18th instaut: JOHN WAY, a bright- smith, charged with larceny from his masters Messrs, Abbott and Son : he is 20 years of age, about 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, black hair, dark eyes, stout build, Oark complexion, and has the letters ' J. W.' in blue ink just above right wrist ; dressed in blue pilot cloth monkey jacket, with velvet collar, dark trousers, imitation sealskin vest, black bowler hat, and springside boots ; he will probably make for Wales, and seek employment at ironmongers. Information to be eiven to Head Constable Vaustone, Bideford, Noith Devou, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Dec. 23. Description of a man charged with embezzlement, at Hanley, w ho absconded on the 7th July last, and went to Dover, and from there to Newcastle- on- Tyne: JAMES BROWN, ironworker or puddler, 25 or 26 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, light complexiou, slight sandy wkiskers and moustache, walks erect, has been in the army, and is marked on left side with the letter ' D.'; it is supposed that he is going about, the country hawking. Information to be given to Chief Constable Williams, Police Office, Hanley, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for - his apprehension.— Boic street, December 23. JOHN DUTTON, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 13th ultimo, charged with stealing £ 5 from a dwelling 4 P O L I C E GAZETTE. February 2( 5. house, is still at large. Information to be given to Police pouch, pocket- knife, and is supposed to have had a consider- Constable John, Tybroughton, Flintshire, who holds a war- tible amount ot money in bis possession. Fomidry, Birmingham. It is feared that some iU has Police Gazette of the 14th instant, has been apprehended at Malvern, and is committed for trial at Maidstone Sessions. The saddle marked ' C. Remanded at the Borough Petty Sessions, a man, who gave the name WILLIAM PALMER, son of an iron | manager at Brighton, and stated that he was known in Bromsgrove, and also to an iron manager in High- street, Southampton, and at Horseley Fields, Wolverhampton ; he moustache ; dressed in dark ccat and vest, cotton cord trousers, black still' billycock hat, and old blucher boots ; supposed to be in the neighbourhood of Boston, or at Leeds. Information to be given to Superintendent Danby, Brigg, Lincolnshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Boio- street, December 23. Description of FRANCIS BOSWELL, alias GEORGE MOODY, charged with having, on the ISth instant, at Brigg, stolen— a pair of short leather Leggings, fasten with loops and buckle at top ; two closing Awls, a stabbing Awl, a shoenlaker's small Knife, a ball of white Hemp, a meer- schaum Pipe, and a leather Strap, the property of George Turner : he is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark complexion, black hair, small whiskers and moustache ; dressed in two old dark cloth coats, black vest, white ditto underneath, violet and white neckerchief, fustian trousers ( which have beeu torn at right knee and a patch put under- neath and darned down), and stiff hat ; supposed to be a bricklayer, but may be hawking herrings or mussels. He belongs to Beverley, and is supposed to have been convicted there of stealiug birds. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Danby, Brigg, Lincolnshire, who hold a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street. December 23. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. A warrant has been granted for the apprehension of a man named GEORGE CORRY, charged with obtaining a quantity of goods from several tradesmen in Leamington. Amongst the goods obtained were a gold Geneva Watch, with dial and dome, engraved back, No. 25221 ; a gold Geneva Watch, engine turned back, garter and shield, with gilt dome, No. 15642; and a gold Geneva Watch, engraved back, gilt dome and dial, No. 45411. The Watches are supposed to have been pledged or sold in the neighbourhood of Padding- ton or Islington. Corry is about 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fair complexion, light whiskers and moustache, and no beard. He is well known to the N Division of the Metropolitan Police. Information to be given to Superintendent Luud, Town Hall, Leamington, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, Dec. 28. Charged on a warrant with fraudulent bankruptcy: WALTER MOORE, late of No. 3, Meredith- street, Clerken- well, 25 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, light curly hair, moustache, and imperial, no whiskers, grey eyes, fresh com- plexion, of respectable appearance. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police, Detective Depart- ment, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- street, December 23. MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATIONS. Description of WILLIAM HELSEY, remanded at Worcester to the 6th instant on suspicion of having stolen an unfinished Night- dress, trimmed with tatting : about 19 yrs. of age, 5 feet 5J inches high, dark hair, dark eyes, and fresh complexion, has lost third finger of right hand. In his pos- session were Pawn- tickets for the following Articles : a new reefer Jacket, bound with braid, sleeves lined with scirlet, and in the pocket was a piece of tobacco paper marked * R. Dixon, 35, High- street, Tewkesbury'; a worn reefer Jacket; a black cloth Jacket, with pockets on sides ; a pair of side- spring Boots, pegged ; a pair of brown kid Gloves ; a black, white, and red Muffler. Information to be given to the Worcester City Police.— Bow- street, January 1. Remanded until the 6th proximo, charged with larceny at Donington on Bain, Lincolnshire: GEORGE WEBB, of Kencott, Oxfordshire, j 45 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair, turning grey, dark brown eyes, and a scar on back of left hand. Information to be given to Superintendent Thorsby, Lincolnshire Constabulary, Louth. — ISow- street, December 30. Absconded on the 28th instant, while on license, from Ingleby Greenhow, North Riding of Yorkshire : No. 307 FREDERICK BATTY, 17 years of age, about 5 feet 2 ins. high, light brown hair, grey eyes, sharp features, clear com plexion, and scar on left thumb; supposed to be dressed in dark mixture tweed cloth coat and vest, corduroy trousers, new dark frieze topcoat, hard felt hat, and lace boots. £ 1 reward, with all reasonable expenses will be paid for his apprehension, by the Rev. R. G. Fish, Castle Howard Reformatory, Welburn, York.— Bow- street, December 30. Description of a man who is charged with obtaining board and lodging from the 19th to the 21st instant and 12s. 6d., by false pretences, at Sutton Heath, near Church Broughton : about 65 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, ordinary make, stoops a little, almost white hair, grey whiskers or moustache, dark imperial, fresh complexion, is very talkative, and of shabby genteel appearance ; diessed in a dark great- coat, coat, and vest, narrow . striped dark grey trousers, darned at thn knee, red checked shir t, paper collar, no necktie, blue ribbed worsted stockings, lace- up boots, and high- crowntd billycock hut. Had a- Watch and Chain, which he represented to be gold, and carried a walking Stick in his hand. He spoku a good deal about Newcastle- under- Lyme, Stoke- on- Trent, Silverdale, Barlaston ( where he said he came from), and other pottery towns. Information to be given to Superintendent Whieldon, Ashbourne, or to Inspector Taylor, Church Broughton, Derbyshire. - Bow- street, December 30. Description of HARRY HENDEN, watchmaker and jeweller, of Dartford, who left his home and proceeded to Birmingham on business on the 2lBt instant, since which nothing has been heard of him : 27 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, slight moustache, dark hair, and pale face ; dressed in black cloth trousers and vest ( double- breasted), black frock coat, black rough overcoat, velvet collar, right hand outside pocket torn, black silk hat, with very deep mourning band, carried a black billycock hat in his pocket, elastic- side boots, military fronts, striped socks, white cotton shirt, gold studs, with bluish stones, black knot tie, black sleeve links, hair albert, with gold mounts, gold Geneva lever watch, coloured gold locket, with child's photograph and ' In Memory ol' engraved on it, brown india- rubber tobacco age, but looks about 40, sandv hair, no whiskers, large sandy beard and moustache, stout make, hazel eyes, very fluent in speech, and writes a good hand ; dressed in a dark tweed round jacket, double- breasted waistcoat, very old trousers, top hat, and blucher boots. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Bradshaw, Wrexham, Denbighshire. — Bow- street, December 30. Missing from his home since 8 30 am. on the 21th in3t.: GEORGE WOOLLAM, a builder and innkeeper- of the ' Talbot,' Wcm, Salop, about 51 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, dark sandy whiskers ; dressed in a grey suit of clothes, black jimcrow hat ; he had about .£ 20 upon him, and stated that he was going to Whitchurch ; he has not since been heard of, and it is feared some ill has befallen him.
