Sl( fiiec.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may he made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is gives, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and Bworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any aiticle in the POLICE GAZETTE, all tetters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise tie insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from fhe Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forres 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS. MUE9EE AND BSTALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. About 2 a. m. ou the 19th instant, the dead Body of a full- grown female Child was found in an entry iu Chancery- lane, in the borough of Bolton, wrapped in a portion of the ' Bolton Weekly Guardian ' newspaper, dated Nov. 15, 187- 4. At the inquest a verdict was returned of ' Wilful murder against some person or persons unknown.' Information to be given to Chief Constable Beech, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, Deeember 24. Description of JOHN MORAN, against whom a warrant has been issued, charging him with the wilful murder of Charles Langley, alias Rough Charlie, who died on the 2nd instant, from the effects of an assault committed upon him by Moran on the 26th ult., on which date Moran absconded : about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, ruddy com- plexion, round features, brown hair, cut short, scar on left chtekbone, and clean shaved ; dressed usually as a horse dealer, which occupation he follows ; he is well known at the principal maikets and fairs in the kingdom, and has also been engaged in England and Ireland as a trotting match rider. It is supposed that he will endeavour to emigrate. A reward of £ 50 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to'any person who will give such informationjas shall lead to the apprehension of the said John Moran. Information to be given to Chief Constable Glossep, Police Office, Birming- ham.— Bow- street, December 23. FORGERY. Absconded on the 24th ultimo, charged en a warrant with forgery : WALTER COLLIS, | 18 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and eyes, slight moustache, oval face; dressed in grey overcoat, blue serge yachting jacket under, da; k vest and trousers, high hat; walks very erectly and is of gentlemanly appearance ; friends reside at Cherry Orchard- road, Croydon. Information to be giveu to the City of London Police, Bow- lane Station.— Bow- street, December 21. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of a gentleman in Sunderland, on the evening of the 11th instant : a gold lever Watch, No. 12344, maker Marshall, Sunderland. Supposed by a tali woman, dressed in dark clothes. Information to be given to Chief Constable Stainsby, Sunderland, Durham.— Bow- ureet, December 14. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Description of two men who absconded from South- ampton, on the 12th instant, charged with housebreaking, and stealing two gold Watches : NOAH LEE, 22 years of age, 5 feet 7J inches high, dark hair, eyes, and complexion, scar on forehead near left eye, a gipsy, but has worked as a stoker in steam boats ; dressed in blue monkey jacket, blue cloth trousers, Scotch cap, with feather in it, and large muffler handkerchief, tied loosely round his neck. WILLIAM SULLIVAN, alias LEE, 19 years of age, 5 feet 4i inches high, dark brown hair, fresh complexion ; dressed in blue cloth trousers, serge frock, has the appearance of a man- of- war's- man. They had in their possession a lady's gold Geneva Watch, plate glass, metal dome, and chased back. Information to be given to Head Constable Breary, Southampton, who holds a wairant for their apprehension. - Bow- street, December 23. Stolen in the borough of Newcastle- on- Tyne, on the 20th instant, by means of housebreaking: a gold Chaiu and Pendant, with glass back, large ruby and pearl in centre ; a gold Scarf Pin, with dark blue star and pearl in centre: a lady's small gold Geneva Watch, gold dial and chapters, steel hands, No. 2280 ; a gold Watch, without the back and out of repair ; a gold wedding Ring; a gold finger Ring, set with two yellow Btones and one red ditto ; a gold mourning Ring, with ' W. W.' iuside ; a gold keeper Ring, black enamelled, with the words ' In memory of ;' a pair of gold Spectacles; a pair of silver Ear- rings ; a silver patent iever Watch, No. 5076 ; a silver Butter Knife ; a round silver plated Cake Basket, handle bent a little to one side ; a i ilver plated Sugar Basin, blue glass inside ; a silver plated Teapot, blue ground, with white flower iu centre ; a silver plated Toast Rack ; a gutta percha Tobacco Pouch ; and an old silver Watch, silver guard Chain, doubled iu four lengths, attached. Information to be given to Chief Constable Nicholls, Newcastle- on- Tyne.— Bow- street, December 23. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Button Bridge, on the 21st ultimo : a fustian Vest, with flaps over the pockets, nearly new ; a pair of Leggings, same material; a plum- coloured Shawl, faded, green and red border, with deep fringe ; a blue and white bundle Handkerchief ; a dark blue rough Overcoat, with velvet collar, single- breasted, cloth buttons, red woollen plaid liniug toru in the back, and repaired with grey linsey; a small black and white plaid scarf Shawl ; aud a brown and white Neckerchief, cut in two. By RICHARD JONES, alias REDMAN DICK, 58 years of age, looks younger, 5 feet 7\ inches high, fair complexion, sandy hair aad whiskers, all round his face, broken nose, stout, and strong make ; dressed in the stolen overcoat, mole- skin trousers, dark rough cap, with ear- laps tied over the top, and strong lace- up boots, one boot slit open in froi, t, is a sawyer; he was traced through the forest to the road leading from Cleobury Mortimer to Worcester, at Clowstop, and is supposed to be in Worcestershire or Herefordshire ; he was sentenced to 7 years penal servitude' at Worcester Summer Assizes, 1850, for housebreaking, a]$ o to 6 months imprison- j ment at Worcestershire Sessions, in 1865, and 7 years penal servitude, at Shrewsbury, in April, 1866. Information to be given to Superintendent Ivins, Bridgnorth, or to Sergeant Collis, Cleobury Mortimer, Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 21. Stolen by means of housebreaking between 1 and 4 p. m. 1 on the 15th instant, at Hobbergate, near Stone: a brown; cloth'Overcoat, with brown velvet collar, buttons covered with cloth, two pockets outside and one inside left breast, and a small one above the outside right- hand pocket; a black cloth Jacket, two pockets outside and one inside left breast, bound round with black braid ; a pair of three- quarter Wel- lington Boots, newly clumped; and a pair of grey worsted Stockings. Supposed by a tramp, about 25 yeais of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, slight build, small light whiskers aud moustache ; he is supposed to be wearing the stoleu over- coat, having left his own coat behind. Information to be given to Superintendent Crisp, Stone, Staffordshire.— Bow-' street, December 21. Between 6 and 8 p. m. on the 13th instant the dwelling- house of Mr. Samuel Ruff, Draper, 34, High- street, Watford, was entered by means of false keys, aud stoleu thereiu : £ 35 in Gold and Silver ; a silver Geneva Watch, with gold Albert Chain attached; and a broken gold Pencil- case ; six ladies gold Rings— one with two rows of diamonds and rubies in centre, one turquoise with diamond iu centre, one with a single row of pearls and sapphire in centre, one with six I stones, various, one with hair in centre, and one with corals all round ; a gold Brooch w ith pendant aud purple stones ; a gold enamelled Locket with hair in centre ; a plain gold Locket; two gold Studs with rubies in centre ou white ground. £ 5 reward will be paid for the apprehension and | conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Inspector Chapman, Police Station, Watford, Herts. — Bens sireet, December 18. Between 6 and 8 p. m. on the 13th instant, the dwelling- house of Thomas Bradfield, Ettingshall, near Bilston, was broken and entered, and stoleu therein : about £ 9 iu Money, one English silver lever Watch, maker— Payne and Son, Abingdon, No. 4455 ; oue small Geneva silver Watch ; a gentleman's gold Ring with the iuitals ' T. B.' engraved on the inside, white stone with brown border; one plain gold Ring with sapphire stone ( yellow) ; a small gold Brooch with five blue stones ; one gold* keeper Ring, hair in groove, chased round with fern leaves; and one pair of gold Ear- rings, with three loops. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent McCrea, Police Office, Bilston, Staffordshire. -!- Bow- street, December 18. During the night of the 11th instant, the Cooperative Stores in Tweedale- street, Rochdale, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : 8 lbs. of twist Tobacco, 8 lbs. of Cheese, 12 yards of red Flannel, 6 yards of blue ditto, a blue and white bed Quilt, and three small shoulder Shawls, mixed colours. Information to be given to Chief Constable Stevens, Town Hall, Rochdale, Lancashire.— Bow- street, December 16. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a field near Grove House, Cheshuut, on the lst inBtaut: a chestnut mare Pony, hands high, iiog mailed, and has a blemish on near fore fetlock. £ 10 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as shall lead to the appreheusion aud conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the Pony. Information to be given at the Cheshunt Police Station, Herts.— Boio- street, Dec. 23. Stolen on the lst iustant, from Cheshunt: a chestnut mare Pony, 12| hands hands high, hog maned, has a blemish on near fore fetlock. £ 10 reward.— Metropolitan Police, Y Division, December 21. Stolen during the night of the 10th instant, from a field in Ladywell, Sydenham : a brown Mare, aged, 15 hands high, branded on hoof, hair off near hock, and in good condition.— Metropolitan. Police, P Division, December 18. Description of JOSEPH SCOTT, for whose apprehen- sion a warrant has been issued for stealing a Horse, the property of Mr. S. H. Self, on the 19th ultimo, at Knares- borough : about 34 years of age, 5 feet 6| inches high, dark complexion, brown [ eyeB, dark brown hair and dark brown bushy whiskers, lost some upper teeth, ssar on back and on throat, mole on right elbow, aud whito spot on left thigh, a labourer, and a native of Knaresborough : dressed in a dark shooting coat, fustian or cord trousers, and hairy or Scotch cap, has the appearance of a tramp; he was sentenced to 7 years penal servitude at the West Riding June Sessions, 1867, previous to which be served several periods in gaol, aud was discharged from Portland Prison in December, 1872, on licence, he has recently been seen at Knaresborouglu His photograph may be seen on application to Snperintelfifent Haworth, Knaresborough, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, Dee. 16. Description of JAMES FORD, who is charged at Northampton with stealing six Heifers and a Cow, recovered, the property of Mr. Henry Mobbs, Billing- road, on the 5th instant : about 65 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, sharp features, proportionate build, sandy Lair and whiskers, turning grey ; dressed in a long drab overcoat, old silk hat, and leather gaiters ; he speaks slowly, and has a very whining voice ; he has a relative residing at Coldesden, Bedfordshire, where he may probably go. Information to be given to Chief Constable Keenan, Northampton, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 16. Stolen from Morehampton Park, about the 11th instant, the property of Mr. Tomson : three Hereford Heifers, coming 2 years old, in calf, one with a drooping horn, and one has a deal of white about her. Information to be given to Mr. Tomson, or to Superintendent Tanner, Abbey Dore, Hereford.— Bow street, December 16. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded on the 18th instant from Warran- street, Fitzroy- square, stealing— a gold Geneva Watch; a 1. d^ s gold neck Chain ( jack pattern), Locket attached ( portrait of a child one side, hair reverse; a gold Brooch, oval shape : a Bonnet, trimmed with black and violet feathers; and a grey linsey Dress, trimmed with black velvet : a woman, 22 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, fair complexion, and blue eyes; © f respectable appearance.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, December 24. By a watchmaker, named Henry Brown, who absconded at 8 p. m. on the 21st instant: he is about 37 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, rather slender, dark complexion, long moustache, twisted up at the ends ; dressed in a black cloth suit, trousers tight at knees, and loose bottoms, and black silk hat; he was formerly in buisness as a watchmaker in Fownes- street, Dublin. A reward of £ 20 will be paid for his apprehension, aud recovery of the property, or in propor- tion to the value recovered. Information to be given at the Detective Office, Cheapside, Manchester.— Bow- street, Dec. 24. Description of JOHN ROBERTS, a Welshman, charged upon a warrant with embezzlement : 29 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, rather stoutly built, fresh complexion, full face, black hair, dark brown whiskers and moustache ; dressed iu black billycock hat, black pilot cloth monkey jacket, with velvet collar, white fustian double- breasted vest, two rows of black buttons, new corduroy trousers, fall front, grey flannel sliirt, with red stripes, coloured woollen muffler, strong lace- up boots, with tips on heels and toes. He can speak a little English, and was seen on the ISth instant at Criccieth, Carnarvonshire. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Hughes, Towvn, or to Sergeant Jones, Four Crosses, Festiniog, Merionethshire.— Boic- street, December 24. Stolen on the IStli instant, from the dwelling- house of George Patterson, of Broomside: a silyer verge Watch, No. 3747, maker T. Hollison, Liverpool; a brown stuff Dress ; a light green ditto ; a green cotton ditto ; a grey woollen Shawl ; four white Holland Aprons ; a checked ditto; a pair of women's elastic- side Boots; and two pairs of Stockings. By ALICE WALTON, alias JESSIE GREEN, who lodged in the house and has absconded : she is 39 years of age, 4 feet 11 iuches high, fresh complexion, has lost some front teeth, blue eyes, dark brown hair, proportionate figure, a native of Linton- on- Ouse, Yorkshire ; she has been several times convicted for felony. Abbott and Son: he ia 20 years of age, about 6 feet 3 or 4 inches high, black hair, dark eyes, stout build, dark complexion, aud has the letters 4 J. W.' in blue ink just above right wrist ; dressed iu blue pilot cloth monkey jacket, with velvet collar, dark trousers, imitation sealskiu vest, black bowler hat, ur. d spriugside boots ; he will probably make for Walos, aud beek employment at ironmongers. Information to t> e given to Head Constable Vanstone, Bideford, North Devon, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Boa- street, Dec. 23. Description of a man charged with embezzlement, at Hanley, who absconded on tho 7th July last, and went to Dover, and from there to Newcastle- on- Tyue: JAMES BROWN, ironworker or puddler, 25 or 20 years of age, 5 feet 7 iuches hijjli, light complexion, slight sauily wkiskers and moustache, walks erect, has becu iu the army, and is marked ou left side with the letter ' D.' - it is supposed that he is going about the country hawking. Information to be given to Chief Constable Williams, Police Office, Hauley, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Botc- sirect, Dcccmber 23. JOHN DUTTON, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 13th ultimo, charged with stealing £ 5 from a dwelling- house, is still at large. Information to be given to Police Constable John, Tybroughton, Flintshire, who holds a war- rant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 23. FRANK SMITH, alias MILES, advertised iu the Police Gazette of the 14th iustant, has been apprehended at Malvern, and is committed for trial at Maidstone Sessions. The saddle marked ' C. Trice' ( not Price as previously des • cribed), and other articles, have not yet been recovered. Information to be given to the Head Constable, Tunbridge Wells, Kent.— Bow- street, December 23. Description of JAMES EARLEY, charged - with embezzlement: he is from 20 to 23 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, daric complexion, short dark curly hair and moustache ; dressed iu dark ccat and vest, cotton cord trousers, black stiff billycock hat, and old blucher boots ; supposed to be in the neighbourhood of Boston, or at Leeds. Information to be given to Superintendent Danby, Brigg, Lincolnshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 23. Description of FRANCIS BOSWELL, alias GEORGE MOODY, charged with having, on the 18th iustaut, at Brigg, stolen— a pair of short leather Leggiags, fasten with loops and buckle at top ; two closing Awls, a stabbing Awl, a shoemaker's small Knife, a ball of white Hemp, a meer- schaum Pipe, and a leather Strap, the property of George Turner : he is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark complexion, black hair, small whiskers and moustache; dressed in two old dark cloth coats, black vest, white ditto underneath, violet and white neckerchief, fustian trousers ( which have been torn at right knee and a patch put under- neath and darned down), and stifF hat; supposed to be a bricklayer, but may be hawking herrings or mussels. He belongs to Beverley, and is supposed to have been convicted there of stealing birds. Information to bo giveu to Superin- tendent Danby, Brigg, Lincolnshire, who hold a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 23. Description of THOMAS BISHOP SAUNDERS, for whose apprehension a warrant is issued for embezzlement: about 37 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, moustache, and beard, stout make, he is a commercial traveller, and a native of Aylesbury ; dressed in a thick grey cloth suit. Information to " be given to Deputy Chief Constable Peacock, Lewe3, or at any Police Station in East Sussex.— Bow- street, December 21. Stolen from a gunsmith's shop in Middlesborough, on the night of the 18th instant: a small Pocket Pistol aud two small Powder Flasks. By a man, from 22 to 24 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high ( supposed), light complexion, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in old grey topcoat, old drab cord trousers, tight fitting cap, and old boots. Also stolen from an office iu Middlesborough, between 9 and 10 45 p. m. on the 18th instant : a japanned Cash Box, about 15 inches long, 7 or 8 inches broad, and G inches deep, containing 3s. worth of Cd. Stamps, 3s. worth of 4d. Stamps, 4s. worth of 3d. Stamps, 2s. or 3s. worth of 2d. Stamps, about 12s. worth of Id. Stamps, Is. 6s. worth of W. Stamps, and 8d. in Copper. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Borough Police Station, Middlesborough, Yorks. — Bow- street, December 21. Absconded on the 4th ultimo, from Wigtown, charged with several cases of larceny : a labourer, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, short black hair, whiskei' 3 shaved off, black moustache, swarthy complexion, and square shoulders, has served in the army, is of smart military appear- ance ; dressed in a cloth cap with peak, or deer stalker cap, but generally wears a round black felt hat, black cloth coat and vest, tweed trousers much worn, elastic- side boots with plain fronts and high heels ; sometimes carries a black water- proof coat, and leggings. He was for sometime employed at Corateith Farm, near West Derby, Lancashire, and may have gone there ia seirch of employmeut. Information to be given to Chief Constable Murphy, Wigtown, N. B.— Bow- st., Dectmbtr 21. Absconded from Westbury, Wilts, on the llth instant, charged with stealing, on the 13th iustant, two Ducks ( one recovered), the property of Mr. Joseph Smith, Dilton Mills, Westbury : a man, a native of Cod ford St. Mary, Wilts, about 20 yeai- 3 of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, very little wkiskers, rather sandy; dressed in a short pilot cloth coat, dirty moleskin trousers, and billycock hat; he is a labourer, and worked at Trowbridge for about two years. Information to be giv* n to Superintendent Abbott, Warminster, or to Sergeant Wheeler, Westbury, Wilts.— Bow- street, December 21. Description of THOMAS SMITH, charged upon a warrant with embezzlement: 26 years of age, 5 feet 10 or II inches high, rather stoutly built, black whiskers aud mous- tache ; dressed in grey cheviot coat and vest, light striped trousers and black felt hat. He ha* been a travelling pack- man. Information to bo given to tho Chief Constable, Town Hall, Leeds, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, DecemUr 18. white scarf, and black stiff felt hat. Iuformation to be given ! collar, grey mixture trousers, striped cloth vest, cloth cap, to Superintendent liendersou, West Sussex Constabulary, Horsham.— Bow- r\ reet, December 18. Stolen fro. in a jeweller's shop in Warrington, at 5 p. m. on the 15th instant : a gold lever Watch, with good dial, spring- up riug cap, richly- chased movements, No. 6698 ; and a silver lever Watch, which has since been fouud pledged. By a German or Swiss, r. amed JOSEPH FISHER, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, swarthy complexion, dark hair, thin dark moustache, no beard or whiskers, and round features ; dressed in new pilot monkey jacket, old black cloth trousers, black billycock hat with soft crown, and low shoes. He speaks with a foreign accent, is a watchmaker, and the stolen Watches belonged to his employer, for whom he has worked for the last three weeks; has also worked in London. A warrant is issued for his apprehension. Information to be giveu to Chief Constable Hunt, Warrington, Lancashire. - Bow- street, December 18. Description of a man who absconded from Yeovil, on the 11th iustant, charged with stealing a pair of Boots ( recovered) : 35 to 40 years of age, about 5 fctt 10 iuches high, fair complexion, no whiskers, aud light moustache ; dressed jir mixture coat and veSt, high hat, with black band. He hangs abofit commercial hotels at dusk. Information to be given to Superintendent Smith, Yeovil, Somerset.— Bow- street, December 18.
