Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. *„* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any aiticle in the POLICE GAZETTE, ail tetters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise thb insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88i, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS. MUEBEB AND MALICIOUSLY WOUKDMG. A reward of £ 100 will be paid to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the four men who committed a murderous assault upon the keepers and watchers on the Foxley Estate, in the parish of Bishopstone, on the morning of the 24th ultimo, or a proportion of £ 25 for each person convicted ; and the Secretary of State for the Home Department will advise the grant of Hei Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being one of the persons who actually fired at and wounded the keepers, who will give such information and evidence as shall lead to the conviction of the other offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Cope, Police Station, Hereford ; to Superintendent Shead, County Police Station, Weobley ; or to any Police Officer in the co. mty of Hereford.— Bow- street, November 23. Absconded, charged with the wilful murder of Patrick Duffy, at Howden, near Crook, by striking him on the head with a coal rake, on the 2nd instant, from the effects of which he died on the 7th instant: EDWARD TIPPIN, an Irishman, about 34 years of age, 6 feet 2 § iuches high, fresh complexion, dark eyes, dark brown or black hair, stout, very large ears, prominent teeth, and is a cinder drawer or labourer ; dressed in black cloth coat and waistcoat, yellow striped cloth trousers, black cloth cap, white linen shirt, and black necktie. He had with him a very savage black retriever bitch. Information to be given to Superintendent Henderson, County Constabulary, Bishop Auckland, Durham, - who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, November 20. FORGERY. Absconded, charged on a warrant with forgery: JOSEPH SAMSON, late of 52, King William- street, City, 45 to 50 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet high, thin, dark hair, eyes, and complexion, black whiskers and mous- tache, cut short, narrow face, and prominent nose; he is a native of Berlin, and his right name is supposed to be JAMES BRUN. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- street, November 13. ROBBERY AND LAECEKY FR022 THE PERSON. Stolen from the person, on the Shrewsbury Racecourse, on the 18th instant : A silver lever Watch, No. 3698, maker John Carter, 61, Cornhill, I ondon. A small- sized silver Geneva Watch, No. 29688. Information to be given to Head Constable Davies, Shrews- bury, Salop.— Bow- street, November 25. Stolen from the person, in Brighton, on the 17th instant, by a respectably dressed man, apparently a mechanic : a gold lever hunting Watch, maker Bright. Information to be given to Chief Constable White, Brighton, Sussex.— Bow- street, November 25. Stolen from the person of Benjamin Mattinson, Haltcliff, in the neighbourhood of Allendale, Northumberland, about the 2nd instant : a deposit Receipt, issued by the Carlisle and Cumberland Banking Company, Wigton, dated 10 July, 1874, for £ 1040, in favour of Benjamin Mattinson, of Haltcliff, No. of receipt W 5849. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Robinson, Wigton, or at the Office of the County Chief Constable, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, Nov. 18. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. The cottage of Charles Crump, of Button Bridge, was broken into between 9 a. m. and 4 p. m. on the 21st instant, and stolen therein : a fustian Vest, with flaps over the pockets, nearly new ; a pair of Leggings, same material; a plum- coloured Shawl, faded, green and red border, with deep friDge ; a blue and white bundle Handkerchief ; and a red and white pocket Handkerchief. The cottage of Thomas Beech, of Button Bridge, was also broken into about the same time, and stolen therein : a dark rough blue Overcoat, with velvet collar, red woollen plaid lining, torn in the back, and repaired with grey linsey; a small black and white plaid scarf Shawl; and a brown and white Neckerchief, cut in two. A man was seen near the place with a bundle, and is about 48 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, light complexion, light brown hair, light sandy whiskers all round his face, and has a dent in his nose ; dressed in the stolen overcoat, mole- skin trousers, dark rough cap with earflaps tied over the top, and lace- up boots, one boot slit open ; he is a sawyer, and it is supposed that he has been working i. t Wolverhampton and other parts of Staffordshire. He left behind an old blue pilot monkey jacket, and he sold two Axes in the neighbour- hood, which are supposed to have beeu stolen. Information to be given to Superintendent Ivins, Bridgnorth, or to Sergeant Collis, Cleobury Mortimer, Salop.— Brno- street, No- vember 27. Stolen by means of skeleton keys, from the dwelling- house of Mr. John Jarratt, of Church- street, Brierley Hill, 1 between 6 and 7 30 p. m. on the 22nd instant : about £ 15 or £ 20 iu Silver ; and a brown canvas Bag, with the words ' Bank of England, 1872' painted on it. Information to be given to Superintendent Mills, Brierley Hill, Staffordshire. — Bow- street, November 25. Between 11 p. m. 22nd and 5 a. m. on the 23rd instant, the cottage of Mark Tylor, in the parish rf Collington, labourer, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : about ] 6 lbs. of Bacon; 6 lbs. of Cheese ; a loaf of Bread ; an old black Hat ; a large bundle Handkerchief^ with a bird printed on each corner ; and a home made wooden Pipe, in the shape of a cigar- holder. Supposed by a man, about 40 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, round fresh face, black whiskers, stout make, walks erect and stiffly ; s-. ipposed to be wearing heavy boots, with tipped heels, dirty cord trousers, dirty slop I or jacket, and black jimcrow hat. He has served 4 years, 6 years, and 7 years penal servitude, for similar offences ; he is a native of Stanford Bishop, Herefordshire. May be I accompanied by a woman. Information to be given to Superintendent Harwood, Bromyard, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, November 25. During the night of the 21st instant, an office in the occupation of Mr. James Summerfield, in the city of Lichfield, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : an old black pea Jacket, mu; h worn about the cuffs, and the thief, who wore clogs, is supposed to have cut liis hands with some broken glass, and will probably be wearing the stolen jacket, ' as an old one was left behiud. A tramp, who apeared to be imbecile is suspected, about 30 years of age, rather tall and thin, with peculiar and;' thin features]; dressed in dark coai, and dark billycock hat. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Hernaman, Guildhall, Lichfield, Stafford.— Bow- strect, November 25, On the 21st instant, between 7 a. m. and 6 p. m., the cottage of Thomas Fletcher, situated at Hartlebury, Wor- cestershire, was broken into, and stolen therein : a black cloth Coat, with pockets behind, marked ' Needham' cn lining of sleeve; a brown cloth Jacket, much worn, right hand pocket repaired, only one button on breast; a black Coat, right hand pocket repaired ; a black Jacket, repaired in several places, pockets at sides ; a single- breasted black Vest, marked ' Needliam' on lining ; a double- breasted Vest, much worn ; a pair of black cloth Trousers, nearly new ; a pair of grey Trousers, with fly fronts; a pair of dark striped Trousers, with strap behind ; a white calico Shirt ; a silk Handkerchief; a pair of child's grey Nickerbockers ; a child's Tunic, same material; a small silver Brooch ; a common Brooch ; a leather Purse, containing a coal merchant's Bill, with printed heading ' Edwin Landan, coal merchant, Stour- port'; about 14s. in Silver and Copper. A very old dirty blue cloth jacket, mended ou one shoulder with coarse brown thread, very greasy, and has the appearance of having been worn by a currier or shoemaker, was left in the cottage. Two men were seen in the neighbourhood, and are suspected: one is a currier, about 44 years of age, about 5 feet 3 or 4 ius. high, stoutly build, full features, and grey whiskers ; dressed in dark clothes ; the other is about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, has no whiskers, and bow legged ; dressed in dark clothes. Information to be given to Super intendent Raby, Great Witley, or to Sergeant Ganderton, Police Office, Stourport, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, Nov. 25. Between 9 p m. on the 18th and G a. m. on the 19th instant, the office belonging to the Aston Hull Colliery Company Limited, at Ewloe, Flintshire, was broken and entered, and 2s. 6d. worth of copper Money stolen therein. Supposed by a tramp, 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, dark brown bair cut short, whiskers round the face, and very stout; dressed in a dark cap with peak, dark cloth shooting jacket, old dirty trousers, and strong navvy boots ; supposed to be a native of Tarving, Cheshire, and sometimes works with threshing machines. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Adams, Mold, or to Sergeant Lockwood, Hawarden, Flintshire.— Bow- street, No- vember 23. Stolen, by housebreaking, from the residence of John Wintringham, Esq., at Great Grimsby, on the night of the 15th instant: three silver Cups, two of tkem goblet shaped, without handles, the other smaller, with one handle; and a small electro- plated Salver. Information to be given to Head Constable Campbell, Town Hall, Great Grimsby, Lin- colnshire. - Bow- street, Nocembr 20. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Further information respecting the dark brown filly Cob, stolen from Stoke Ash, on the night of the 24th ultimo : it is about 13 hands high, rising 4 years old, star on forehead, sand crack in near hind foot, small knot on middle of back, caused by the saddle, ard tender to the touch, tail cut square above the hocks. Any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the cob, shall receive two Guineas reward. Information to be given to Inspector Vincent, Police Station, Eye, Suffolk.— Bow- itreet, Normber 27. Found on the 22nd instant, at Sandbacb : two grey Colts, supposed to have been stolen. Information to be given to Superintendent Rowbottom, Constabulary Station, Middlewich, Cheshire.— Bow- street, November 27. Stolen from a field at Cound, during the night of the 21st instant : ten Lambs, the property of Matthew Millie- hope, gamekeeper, marked with blue upon the shoulder. Information to be given to Superintendent Caswell, County Constabulary, Shrewsbury, or to Police Constable Morris, Acton Burnell, Salop.— Bow- street, November 27. Description of RALPH WILSON, for whose apprehen- sion a warrant has beea issued, charging him with having stolen on the 2nd instant, at Upper Ariey, Staffordshire : ten CoWS, a Horse, a Trap, and a set of Harness; the property of Charles Parkes Faulkner : he is about 30 years of age, 5 fsrs'y or 7 inches high, thin features, < lurk complexion, dark hair, eyes, and whiskers, and moustache iuclined to be sandy. The whole of the property stolen is believed to have been taken first to Birmingham, the cows were sent thence by rail to Derby, and re- booked thence to Retford : Wilson has occupied a farm at Upper Arley, for about 7 months, and he has a relative, it is supposed, near Derby. Information to be given to Inspector McCrea, Tettenhall, near Wolverhampton, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, November 27. Stolen between the 2nd and the 7th instant, from Penn Common, Upper Penn, a dark brown mare Pony, rising 3 years old, 12 hands high, long mane and tail, and has recently been blistered under the throat ; the property of Mr. William Perry, Hickmere Lands, Sedgley. Information to be given to Inspector Tomlinson, Sedgley, or to Police Constable Wright, Upper Penn, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, Novembit 25. Stolen on the night of the 19th instant, from a field near Eden Lacy, Penrith, Cumberland : a half- bred Lamb, marked on the off- side with the letter ' T.' Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Fowler, Penritb, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumberland. - Bow- s'. reet, November 25. Stolen between 7 p. m. the 21st and 10 a. m. the 22nd inst., from Percy- street, Hulme, Manchester : a dark brown horse Pony, about 12i hands high, has several white hairs on the forehead, and the hair off the near hip : a set of silver mounted Harness ; three brown woollen Rugs, with red and black stripes ; and a spring Cart, painted plum colour, lined with red, and red wheels lined with black ; two new silver mounted Lamps, one without socket, near wheel of the cart having an iron clip round one of the spokes. By GEORGE BURGHALL, 35 years of age, 5 feet S inches high, and dark brown bushy whiskers ; dressed in dark brown short overcoat, brown cloth trousers, and black felt hat. And GEORGE SANT, 18 years of age, 5 feet ( i inches high, pale looking ; dressed in black cloth clothes, aud black bat. Both have been employed as waiters in public- houses, and occa- sionally as ostlers in Birmingham, and most of the principal towns iu England. Information to be given at the Detective Office, Cheapside, Manchester.— Bow- street, November 25. The bay Mare, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 6th July last, as stolen from a field at Old Hall Farm, Ossett- road, near Wakefield, has been recovered, and two men have been committed for trial: EDWARD MINDAY, of London, who travels with a shooting gallery, for stealing the same ; and FRANK WATTON, of Leeds, a photographer, for receiving the same. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Ball, Wakefieid, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, November 23. Stolen during the night of the 16th instant, from a field at Cole- Orton : a dark coloured mare Ass, in good condition, the property of Sir George H. Beaumont, Bart. Information to be given to Superintendent Ward, Constabulary Station, Ashby- de- la- Couch, Leicestershire.— Bow- street, November 23. Stolen from Miss Lushington's stables, Kingsley, near Alton, Hauts, on the night of the Sth iustant: a stroug light chestnut Horse, aged, nearly 15 hands high, with 3 white legs, star on forehead, scars on knees, newly shod ; a set of single Harness, recently mended and brass mounted, crest— a lion's head, nearly new collar, the cap on the top loose and torn, a new Bridle and Reins ; a brown Horse Rug with dark stripes and marked ' S. L.'; a Roller with dark stripe ; an old Saddle, one of the under laps has been mended ; and a light spring Cart, painted dark green, iron caps to wheels, shafts supported underneath with pieces of iron from head- board, wooden bar underneath to support springs, with an extra hole through it near the centre, the body is broken on 2 P O L I C E GAZETTE. November 27 left side near the tailboard, iron back to seat and old Cushion. Supposed by three men dressed in dark clothes— two about 5 feet 9 inches high, the other shorter, all having the appear- ance of stablemen, wealing black round crown felt hats, about 25 years of age, and probably from London. £ 10 reward will be paid to any person giving & uch information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders to the Superintendent of Police, Alton, Hants.— Bow- street, November 23. 1AKOENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded on the 21st instant, from the General Post Office, Burton- on- Trent, charged with stealing £ 20, the monies of Her Majesty's Postmaster- General : CHARLES WILLIAM STEWART, clerk and draughtsmau, 22 years of age, 5 feet 6| inches high, brown hair, grey eyes, fresh complexion, smart appearance, and has served 3 or 4 years in the Royal Engineers; dressed in glengarry cap, aud dark clothes. Information to be given to Superintendent Bowen, Burton- on- Trent, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, November 27. Stolen about 4 30 p. m. on the 25th instant, from the house of; Thomas Goodman, shoemaker, 26, Adelaide street, Northampton : a small silver Geneva Watch, No. 38523, with a black water ribbon attached; an English silver lever Watch, No. 9663, with a silver albert Chain attached ; a dark blue Overcoat, rough material; a brown cloth Coat, with pockets outside skirts and one inside left breast; a ditto double- breasted Vest and Trousers. By a man, who had been lodging at the above house, a tinman and brazier, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, dark hair, no whiskers, and thin pale face ; dressed iu dark plaid vest and trousers, and the stolen overcoat. Information to be given to Chief Constable Keenan, Northampton.— Bow street, November 27. Absconded from Abertillery near Newport, Monmouth- shire, on the 23rd instant, charged with embezzling various sums of Money, the property of Major Phillips : THOMAS SCRIVENS, farm bailiff or labourer, 40 or 45 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, rather slightly made, dark sallow complexion, dark brown hair, dark small whiskers all round face and chin, shaves the upper lip, long thin features, long thin nose, and slovenly gait ; dressed in a short black cloth coat with pockets on hips, rather light cord or black cloth trousers, black cloth or light tweed waistcoat, black billycock hat, aud heavy watertight or Wellington boots ; was a County Court bailiff' at Neath about three years ago ; and will pro- bably endeavour to go to America. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Abergavenny, or to Super- intendent Fowler, County Constabulary, Tredegar Works, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, November 27. Description of JOHN WITHERS, who has absconded from Worcester, charged with embezzling certain Monies, the property of the Leicester and Derbyshire Coal Company : about 31 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark hair, dark brown moustache and whiskers, and chin shaved ; he was for some yeara employed in Southampton and Chelten- ham as assistant in a draper's shop. Information to be given to the Worcester City Police.— how- street, November 25. Description of GEORGE BIDDY, alias GEORGE EDWARDS, charged on a warrant with obtaining 3s. 6d., by false pretences : he is about 55 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, white hair, white bushy whiskers and moustache, and high forehead ; dressed in a dark grey suit, tweed overcoat, and plaid shirt, with red spots ; he is in the habit of going from place to place obtaining lodgings, & c., by false pretences; he is well known in the county of Hereford, where he under- went 18 months imprisonment, for passing counterfeit coin. Information to be given to Chief Constable Wheeldon, Penybont, or to Police Constable Baldwin, Beguildv, Rad- norshire.— Bow- street, November 25. Absconded from Tunbridge Wells, charged, on a warrant, with stealing a quant'ty of Jewellery ( recovered) : ALFRED BRIDGER, 23 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, light hair, hazel eyes, and has a broken tooth in front; dressed in grey trousers, dark coat, and hard felt hat; he was convicted at Maidstone Quarter Sessions of felony, in June, 1870, since which he has served two years in the Army, and was invalided. Abo absconded from Tunbridge Wells, charged, on a warrant, with stealing £ 4 5s., the monies of his master, William Bass, on the 5th instant : SAMUEL JACKSON, about 36 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and whiskers, is a butcher, but latterly has been driving the mail cart between Tunbridge Wells and Hartfield, Sussex ; dressed in dark brown suit and new thick nailed boots with brass eyelets. Information to be" given to Chief Constable Embery, Town Hall, Tunbridge Wells, Kent.— Bow- street, November 25. Absconded, charged on a warrant with stealing on the 17th instant, from No. 3, King's Bench- walk, Temple, a Cheque for £ 52 10s. ( since cashed): CHARLES EDWARD HODGSON, late of 31, Royal- road, Kennington, about 19 years of age, short, light hair, fair complexion, and is a clerk ; dressed in dark clothes and high hat. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- street, November 25. Absconded from Flashbrook on the 17th instant, charged with stealing : a grey cloth Jacket, a pair of pepper- and- salt mixture cloth Trousers and Waistcoat, all nearly new ; the property of Thomas Watkin, of Flashbrook: GEO. BAILEY, a farm servant, 21 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fair complexion, light or sandy hair, and slender make ; dressed in a round moleskin jacket, dark striped trousers, and black hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Crisp, Stone, to Sergeant Blakeley, Eccleshall, or to Police Constable Onions, Adbaston, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. Bow- street, November 25. Description of HENRY BULLEN, labourer, of Loddon, Norfolk, who is charged with stealing, during the night of the 13th inst., from a barn at Kirby- Cane, three deal Boards, 24 feet long, the property of H. Smith, Esq.: he is 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, black hair, whiskers, and moustache, brown eyes, very dark complexion, aud has a front tooth out; dressed in a black cloth coat, vest, and trousers, and black sealskin cap ; he goes by the name cf SPUD, and is well- known in Hull, Newcastle, and Lincoln- shire— in Hull he was employed unloading ships and lived in a boat, in Newcastle he worked in the felon coal pit, and in Lincolnshire he was a vermin destroyer. The deal boarding and other stolen property have been found at Bullen's cottage. Information to be given to Superintendent Riches, or to Police Constable Barham, Loddon, Norfolk, who holds a warrant for his apprehension,— Bow- etreet, November 23. Absconded on the 14th instant, charged with stealing a Gun, tlie property of William Hassall, of Barlaston : JOHN ARCHER, 32 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, slender build, sandy hair, whiskers and moustache ; dressed in grey mixture jacket, grey trousers with black stripe, and hard round felt hat; his wife, who is about 26 years of age, and a small person, is with him ; he is a gardener, and for- merly was at the Borough Gardens, Cobridge, Staffordshire ; he has been in America. Information to be given to Super- intendent Crisp, Police Office, Stone, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, November 23. Stolen on the 16th instant from the Bull's Head public- house, Dartford : about 10 yards of black aud white striped Cotton Print; a woman's black cloth Jacket, satin bow on the back ; a boy's suit of black cloth Clothes; a light- coloured Overcoat, small man's size ; and a pair of silver Spectacles. By a woman about 23 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high ; dressed in dark grey waterproof jacket, black skirt, brown top, violet petticoat, black crape bonnet with black fall, front teeth decayed. She is supposed to have pledged the property in London on the above day, and is now in custody on another charge of larceny at Woolwich. Information to be be given to Superintendent Fread, Dartford, Kent.— Bow- street, November 23. Description of JAMES LANCASTER, charged upon a warrant with embezzling Uppers and Leather to be manu- factured into Boots: about 23 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, small build, s'ight moustache, small features, dark eyes, and belongs to Manchester ; dressed in black trousers and vest, mixture coat, and black aud white plaid cap. Information to be given to Chief Constable Hunt, Town Hall, Leeds, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, November 20.
