Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or Btolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and Bworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise tie insertion will not be made. Tbo Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 8S and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS. MUEDEE AND MALICIOUSLY WOUSDIKG. Absconded, charged with the wilful murder of Patrick Duffy, at Howden, near Crook, by striking him on the head with a coal rake, on the 2nd instant, from the effects of which he diad on the 7th instant: EDWARD TIPPIN, an Irishman, about 34 years of age, 6 feet 2$ inches high, fresh complexion, dark eyes, dark brown or black hair, stout, very large ears, prominent teeth, aud is a cinder drawer or Labourer; dressed iu black cloth coat and waistcoat, yellow striped cloth trousers, black cloth cap, white linen shirt, aud black necktie. He had with him a very savage black retriever bitch. Information to he given to Superintendent Henderson, County Constabulary, Bishop Auckland, Durham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, November 20. On the 11th instant, on the arrival of the 2 25 p. m. train at Bletchley from Banbury, a brown paper parcel containing the dead body of a male Child, about a month old, was found under the seat of a third- class compartment, and next to the guard's break van of Baubury portion of the train ; the head of the child was smashed, the body had on a white calico shirt, and was wrapped up in a portion of a linen sheet, folded up neatly in brown paper and tied with a string. The coroner's inquest is adjourned till the 23rd instant. The offender is supposed to have taken a ticket at Banbury. Information to be given to Superintendent Hedley, Police Station, Fenny Stratford, Bucks.— Bow- street, November 16. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. About 8' 45 p. m. on the 10th instant, an attempt was made to set file to the contents of a large stackyard at Hints, rear Tamworth, belonging to Mr. Samuel Cole, by placing a quantity of burning coals underneath one of the ricks ; the tire had been taken from a furnace used ou the premises during the day. £ 40 reward will be paid by Mr. Cole to any person or persons who may give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Bowen, Police Station, Burton- on- Trent, or to Inspector Woollaston, Police Station, Tamworth, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, November 16. custody. Stolen from the person at Oakham on the 10th instant: a small gold engine- turned lever Watch, white open face, sunken seconds, cracks on face, and case slightly dented, had attached a graduated Belgian gold Albert Chain, marked ' 9 c.' on ring and swivel. Information to be given to the Chief Constable of Rutland, Oakham.— Bow- street, October 16. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen, by housebreaking, from the residence of John Wintringham, Esq., at Great Grimsby, on the night of the 15th instant : three silver Cups, two of tkem goblet shaped, without handles, the other smaller, with one handle; and a small electro- plated Salver. Information to be given to Head Constable Campbell, Town Hall, Great Grimsby, Lin- colnshire. — Bow- street, Novembr 20. Description of a man, late of Wigan, a puddler, who is charged with breaking and entering a dwelling- house at Rum- worth, near Bolton, Lancashire, on the 6th instant, and stealing therefrom a quantity of Wearing Apparel : 27 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, with small moustache and full face; dressed in moleskin trousers, giey cloth vest, muffler, light lace- up boots, and part of the stolen property, viz., blue pilot Overcoat with velvet collar and seabkin Cap. Has a relative residing in Park- road, Liverpool. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Holland, Town Hall, Little Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, November 16. Between 11 a. m. and 5 p. m. on the 7th instant, Mrs. Brown's dwelling- house, situate at Greenholme, between Brampton and Warwick Bridge, was broken into, and stolen therein : A silver lever Watch, silver dial, gold figures, No. 26260, maker W. H. S. Jackson, London. A Bilver lever Watch, cream coloured dial, and gold figures. A gold Brooch, set with pearls, blue enamelled edge, hair in centre, ' J. F. Dixon,' engraved on back. A small gold Brooch, with hair plaited in centre, ' J. F. D.' engraved on back. A small gold Locket and Chain, hair in middle, engraved ' J. A. B.' A large sized gold watch Key, with white stone in centre. A tortoise- shell Purse, ' J. A. B.' engraved on silver plate. A silver fruit Knife, with pearl handle. A pair of small silver Ear- rings. A dozen silver Tea Spoons, and a pair of sugar Tongs, marked ' B.' A silver Pencil Case, with seal on the end. A silver Fork and Spoon, marked ' J. A. B.' A silver , Tea Spoon, marked ' M. H.' Absconded, charged on a warrant with forgery: JOSEPH SAMSON, late of 52, King William- street, City, 45 to 50 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet high, thin, dark hair, eyes, aud complexion, black whiskers aud mous- tache, cut short, narrow face, aud prominent nose; he is a native of Berlin, and his right name is supposed to be JAMES BRUN. Stolen from the person of Benjamiu Mattinson, Haltcliff, in the neighbourhood of Allendale, Northumberland, about the 2nd instant : a deposit Receipt, issued by the Carlisle and Cumberland Banking Conipauy, Wigton, dated 10 July, 1874, for £ 1040, in favour of Benjamin Mattinson, of HaltclifT, No. of receipt W 5849. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Robinson, Wigton, or at the Cilice of the County Chief Constable, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, Nov. 18. Stolen on the 10th instant, from the person of Daniel Brown, in the borough of Wigau : a silver lever Watch, maker Johnson Grounds, Wigan, No. 33708 ; a black leather Purse, with two compartments, containing £ i in Gold, and three metal Checks, on one side ' 2d,', and on the other side ' W. Jolley's, New Inn, Caroline- street, Wigan.' By three men, one of whom named THOMAS MOUNSEY, is in Stolen on tha night of the 11th instant, from a field at Adbastou, in the parish of Adbaston, Staffordshire, the property of Mr. John Poole, of Greatwood Heath, near Eccleshall : an aged grey cart Mare, about 15^ hands high, large knees, sore back, rough, and in poor condition. OH the 13th instant, a brawn gelding Pony, about 13 hands high, about 10 years old, hair rubbed off the off hip, rather lamp in off hind leg; a neyj set of brass- mounted Harness ; a new light Cart, with/ three, springs, paintsd very dark green, the name ' E. J. Shackleton, Dartford, Kent,' on shaft; and a large woollen Rug, black, led, aud bluish colour. £ 5 re- ward will be paid for the apprehension and conviction ef the offender and recovery of the property. Description of THOMAS WOODS, a cattle drover 3jud native of Fordiugbridge, Hants, remanded till 19th instant, at Romsey, charged with stealing a Donkey : 41 years of age, 5 feet 7A inches high, dark brown hair, and thin ! faaturea ; dressed in a black felt hat,, white slop, buttons up the front, cord trousers, aud nailed boots. He says he has- served 16 years iu the Army, aud was discharged in February, 1871, and. has since worked at the Gas Works at Psrtsmouth. Information to be given to Superintendent Kellaway, Romsey, Hants.— Bma- street, November 16. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen during the night of the 16th instant, from a yard in the parish of Woolstone : a dark brown nag Mare, iu foal, aged, about 15 hands high, small white star on forehead, small scar on near knee, short mane and tail, the property of Mr. R. May, Grove, Wantage. Information to be given to Superintendent Reece, County Police Station, Faringdon, Berks.— Bow- rtred, November 20. Description of SAMUEL ENDERSBY, a labourer, of Biggleswade, who is charged, on a warrant, with stealing during the night of the 4th instant from a stable at the Golden Lion publichouse, Biggleswade : a dark brown Mare, the property of James Thomson ; the mare was found on the road the following day at Great Wymundly, Herts. En- dersby is 33 years of age, 5 feet S inches high, sallow com- plexion, dark curly hair, and hazel eyes ; dressed in shabby dark clothe', and generally wears a cap ; he goes by the name of ' NOBBY,' and is supposed to be marked with ' D.' He is well known at Plumstead, Essex, Kent, St. Ives, Hunts, & e. Information to be given to Superintendent Bedlow, Biggles- wade, Bedfordshire.— Bow- street, November IS. Stolen from a field at Oldbury. between the 10th and 12th instant, the property of John Hyland : a brown Mare, aged, 14 hands high, white star on forehead, saddle mark on back, sand cracks in fere feet, short mane and tail, and in good condition. Information to be given to Superintendent Kemp, Halesowen, or to Sergeant Simmonds, Oldbury, near Birmingham.— Bow- sireet, November 18. Stolen from the farm of Lagloskin, in the united parishes of Killean and Kilkenzie, Argyllshire, betweeu November, 1873, aud 1st August, 1874: twenty- one Cheviot Ewes and Wethers, and sixteen black- faced Ewes and Wethers, ef different ages ; the Cheviot ewes were marked with back bit on far ear and red keel on near hip ; the wethers of the same breed had two back bits on near ear with same keel; the black- faced ewes and wethers had the same ear mark as the Cheviots, with ' L.' branded ou the nose, and ' A.' on the near horn. £ 60 reward will be paid for information that will lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders. In- formation to be given to Superintendert McKechnie, Camp- beltown, Argyllshire.— Bow- street, November 18, LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Description of JAMES LANCASTER, charged upon a warrant with embezzling Uppers and Leather to be manu- factured into Boots : about 23 years of age,, about 5 feet 6 inches high, small build, s'ight moustache, small features,, dark eyes, aud belongs to Manchester ; dressed in black trousers and vest, mixture coat, aud black and white plaid, cap. Information to be given to Chief Constable Hunt, Town Hall, Leeds, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, November 20. Absconded from Southampton- row, Holborn, stealing £~, the monies of his master : a youth, 17 years of age, 5. feet. 5 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, deformed mouth ; dressed iu black frock coat and vest, light tweed trousers, and round felt hat; he is a native of Germany, and it is supposed that be will endeavour to go to that country.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, November 20. Absconded from Milton- uuder- Wychwood, charged with stealing 140 lbs. weight of Wool ( recovered), from the farm buildings of William Mace, farmer, Milton- under- Wychwood : JOHN WATTS, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 8i inches high," fresh complexion, light brown hair, aud grey eyes ; dressed in cord trousers, light- coloured j, aiket, and strong lace- up boots; walks very erect Any person giving such informa- tion as shall lead to his apprehension shall receive £ b reward. Absconded from Darlaston, Stafford, on the 6th instant* on which day they should have surrendered to their bail at Bilston Petty Sessions, charged with stealing 12 cwt. of pig Iron, the property of tho company of proprietors of the Birmingham Canal Navigation, on ttie 24th ultimo : RICHARD GREENFIELD, boat drudger, 50 years of age, very stout built, about 5 feet C inches high, dark whiskers all round face, rather long dark brown hair, and no mous- tache ; dressed in dark striped sac coat and double- breasted vest, brown trousers, billycock hat, very strong ahoes, and dark muffler. WILLIAM GREENFIELD, soa of the above, a boat drudger, 23 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, sligh4 build, small black moustache aud whiskers, dark hair, cut 1 short, and has an impediment iu speech ; dressed in black cloth jacket and trousers, imitation sealskin vest, and black [ deerstalker hat. I Richard Greenfield has a relative living in Shrewsbury, keeping a public or beer house, probably near tbe market; | place. Description of JOB SHAW, alias PAB, charged with stealing from a dwelling- house iu Barnsley, on the 4th inst : a silver lever Watch, white dial, large black figures, steel hands, aud seconds, No. 1652S; a plated leather Guard attachsd, with Key and 3 cent Piece ; 6s. 6d iu Money ; ami a quantity of Wearing Apparel: he is about 30 years of ago, pale complexion, dark eyes, brown hair, and slender build, a labourer and fish hawker, of Mapplewell, near Barn » ley; dressed iu black hairy overcoat, dark trousers, with stripes* down sides, black billycock hat, nud very dirty appearance. Description of a woman who obtained a situation is a public- house in tbo Borough of Ashton- under- Lyne, on- the 18th iustant, and left about 5 p. m. on the same day, stealing and taking about £ 8 in Gold and Silver : about 22 yeers of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 iuches high, fair complexion, sandy hair, cut short iu front, light eyes, rather flat face, and propor- tionate make ; dressed in black stuil' dress, black cloth jacket, supposed pilot cloth, and black hat. She is of good address, and stated that she had been in service at an inn iu Roch- dale for the last three years. Description pf JOHN RIDGWAY, alias BRADLEY, charged with stealing at Brownhills, ou the 18th instant, a suit of grey cloth Clothes, 4 yards of black Cloth, Zk yards of browu Cloth, 3 yards of grey Cloth, a Mackintosh, aud a woollen Shawl, from Samuel Toddington, ^ vith whom he had lodged : about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, light hair, nearly bald, red face, front tooth deficient, brown moustache, no whiskers ; he worked as a labourer at a coal wharf, is supposed to have been in the Army, aud to belong to the Monmouth Militia ; he talked a good deal about Bir- mingham, aud is supposed to have a wife there. Information to be given to Superintendent Hill, Brownbills, near Walsall, Staffordshire, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bcw- street, November 20. Absconded from Woodford, near Salisbury, charged with stealing a Coat and pair of Trousers ( recovered) : a lad, 19 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, and very youug looking; dressed either in a porter's dark cord jacket or white slop ( possibly wearing both), cord trousers, aud hard round- crown bowler hat; will most likely seek for work at malt houses or on new buildings. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Wolfe, Fisherton, Salisbury, Wilts.— Bow- sti'^ et, Novem- ber SO. Stolen from the dwelling- house of EDWARD BROAD, of Threapwood, on the 7th iustant : a pair of man's lace- up Boots, since recovered. By a train p, who gave the name of THOMAS GRIFFITHS, and stated that he had been in the army, tattooed ou both arms, about 40 years of age, low stout build, dark hair, no whiskers; dressed in old dark monkey jacket, cotton cord trousers, black cloth cap, with peak ; he IS supposed to frequent Chester, Wrexham, & c., and to be known to the Police there. Absconded from Dudley on the 7th instant, charged on a warrant with embezzling £ 45 8s. 6d., the monies of Daniel Mason, of Baptist End and Spring Field Collieries: WM. JOHNSON, late clerk at the colliery, about 37 years of age, 5 feet 10 itches high, light hair, bald on top of head, fresh complexion, sandy whiskers, clean shaved ou chiu, and very stout build. Information to be given to Chief Superinten- dent Burton, Borough Police Office, Dudley, Worcestershire. — Bow- street, November 18. Absconded from Bromyard, on the uight of the 14th instant, charged with stealing £ 4 in cash, which he had been entrusted with to take to his late mistress Mrs. Philpotts, Brookhouse Farm, Avenbury, Herefordshire : a man, about 33 years of age, 5 feet G or 7 inches high, light complexion, sandy whiskers and moustache, light brown hail', blue eyes, walks erect, has been in the Army, and had his discharge in his possession ; dressed in old lace- up boots, old grey trousers, patched at the knees and seat, dark waistcoat and jacket, and old black billycocs hat ; he is supposed to be a native of Beckford, Gloucestershire, and is a labourer. Information to be given to Superintendent Harwood, Bromyard, Hereford- shire.— Bow- street, November 18. Description of a man charged with stealing 140 lbs. of Wool ( recovered) from the farm buildings of WiUiam Mace, of Milton- under- Wychwood : about 27 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion, brown bair, small whiskers ; dressed in cord trousers, light jacket, strong lace- up boots, and walks very erect. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Lakin, County Police Station, Chipping Norton, Oxon, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 16. Description of JOSEPH HADLEY, who absconded from Bletchley, on the 8th instant, charged with larceny : he is a native of Smithwick, Staffordshire, about 26 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, small whiskers ( inclined to be sandy); dressed in a dark monkey jacket, with pockets at sides, dark vest and trousers, biUycock hat or cloth cap. He left Snithwick about July last, and came to Bletchley Railway Station as engine cleaner, and is supposed to have gone back to Smith wick. Information to be given to Superintendent Hedley, Police Station, Fenny Stratford, Bletchley, Bucks, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. •— Bow- street, November 16. Absconded, charged on a warrant with embezzlement: GEORGE EVANS, a native of Wolverhampton, late booking clerk, Thirsk Station, North Eastern Railway, 24 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, has a slight blae mark under left eye ; dressed in dark blue over- coat, dark undercoat and vest, coloured trousers, and billycock hat, slight whiskers, and no moustache; was formerly booking clerk at Stourbridge and Wolverhampton Stations, Great Western Railway. Information to be given at the Superintendent's Office, Police Department, North Eastern Railway, York.— Bow- street, November 16. Stolen from Chaseley House, near Rugeley, on the 12th instant : a lady's gold Geneva Watch, white face, gold hands, one of them broken, had an imitation gold Chain attached. By a tramping painter who was employed there, and has absconded, about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, pale complexion, no whiskers, light sandy imperial on chin, aud tattooed very much on arms and with linger rings ; dressed in dark cloth jacket, red shirt, cord trousers, and cloth cap, with straight peak. Information to be given to Sergeant Johns, Police Station, Rugeley, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, November 16. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Charged on a warrant with obtaining £ 20 by false pre- tences, on the 6th instant: JAMES HAUGHTON, 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 to 10 inched high, red- brown hair parted in the centre, and freckled face ; well dressed, and speaks with au Irish accent. C.— Bow- itreat, November 20. mSCEIXANEOUg INFORMATIONS, Description of GEORGE FOSTER, alias PUSH, com- mitted to Derby Gaol for one calendar month for larceny in Chesterfield : a labourer, 24 years of age, 5 feet 0k inch high, very light hair, grey eyes, fresh complexion, and is a native of Tideswell, Derbyshire. Information to be given to Head Conetable Home, Chesterfield, Derbyshire.— Bow- itreet, No- vember 20. 0 Absconded frem Manchester and Salford Reformatory, Blackley, on the 19th iustant : MARK SUMNER, a native of Withnell, Chorley, Lancashire, 18 or 19 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, fresh complexion, brown bair, grey eyes, proportionate figure, a labourer ; has lost the thumb off left hand. WM. RAWCLIFFE, a native of Accrington, J8 or 19 yrs. of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown bail-, hazel eyes, proportionate limine, a carter ; has a scar on forehead, and one inside left hand. Both dressed in dark cord jacket and vest, bound with red, and light cord trousers, with red' ^ tripe down leg', team Stripe, regatta shirt, with their names on left breast. They are supposed to have gone iuto Yorkshire. A reward of £ 1 will be paid fcr the apprehension of each. Committed for trial at the ensuing quarter sessions for Cardiganshire, charged with obtaining Money by false pretences at Aberystwith, on the l'Oth iustant: EBENEZER WILSON, a tramp, native of Edinburgh, 33 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark brown hair, light brown mous- tache, brown eyes, pale complexion, no whiskers, mole right cheek, and cut maik over right temple ; dressed in old dark cloth monkey jacket, bound with braid, blue cloth trousers, strong lace up boots, and cloth cap ; he is a discharged soldier. On the 30th September last, at the borough of South Shields, JOHN FLYNN and JOHN RIPKIN were con- victed as rogues and vagabonds, for that they were on the River Tyne with intent to commit, felony ; they were ordered to be committed to the House of Correction, at the city of Durham, for 3 calendar months on the 1st ultimo. They appealed against their conviction, but the conviction has been confirmed with costs, and a warrant was issued for their apprehension. Flynn is about 5 feet 8 inches high, 32 years of age, rather thin, dark hair and complexion, and a mariner ; dressed in dark clothing, but generally wears a blue jacket, jimcrow cap, and moleskin trousers, and is a native of Dundee.
