MURDEE AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING- On tl. e 23th ultimo, James Beech, was murdered in his house, at Betchton, Cheshire, by repeated blows from a bill- hook. At the coroner's inquest, a verdict was returned of ' Wilful Murder' against some person or persons unknown. A reward of £ 100 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to aDy person who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers, and the Secretary of State for the Home Department will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon, to any person not being the person who actually committed the murder, and who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Information to be given to Chief Constable Smith, Chester, to Superintendent Rowbottom, Middlewich, to Inspector Hulme, Sandbach, or at any of the Police Stations iu the county of Chester.— Bow- street, Oct. 23. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen on the 15th instant, from the person of Henry Prichard, at the Newbury Michaelmas Hiring Fair : a silver English lever hunting Watch, No. 1818, out of repair. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Goddard, Newbury Borough Police, Berks.— Bow- street, October 23. Stolen from the person on the Racecourse at Newmarket, on the 13th instant: A double- case gold keyless hunting Watch, enamel face, crest on the back, outside, in a blue circle— a lion's claw graspiug a battle- axe. A gold dome hunting Watch, No. 7609, maker W. Cross, ' W. L.' engraved outside, and had attached a Chain, marked ' 18- carat gold' on each link. A silver lever Watch, has ' C. A. T.' engraved on the back. A. reward will be paid for the recovery of each and the con- viction of the offender. Stolen from the person of a gentleman at the Great Northern Railway Station, Peterborough, on the 3rd instant : a silver lever Watch, capped and jewelled in eight holes, slide regulator outside the cap, maker B. Bothamley, Boston, white - Hal. Information to be given to Head Constable Hurst, Peterborough, Northamptonshire.— Bow- street, October 14. appearance, light brown moustache, no whiskers ; dressed in shabby black cloth frock coat, black billycock hat, and dark trousers with stripe ; supposed to have worked previously for a shoemaker in High- street, Wallsall, and carries his tools with him. Information to be given to Superintendent Hill, Brownhills, near Walsall, Staffordshire.— Bow- itreet, Oct. 21. Stolen between 6' 20 and 8' 5 p. m. on the 18th instant, by means of housebreaking : nine silver Tea Spoons, old- fashioned, marked ' G. P. F.;' three ditto ditto, marked ' M. F. G.;' two ditto Salt Spoons, marked ' M. F.;' a ditto Fork, marked ' F. M. G.' on handle; a pair of silver Sugar Tongs, marked ' G. F. F.;' a silver Spoon; a silver- bladed Knife and Fork, with ivory handles ; two German silver Tea Spoons; a gold Bracelet, with hair, two seperate sets of links ; two children's Thrift Boxes ; £ 4 in Gold ; a number of 3d. 4d. and Gd. Pieces, all holed and on a string. Infor- mation to be given to the Chief Constable, Newcastle- on- Tyne.— Bow- stree', October 21 Between 10 p. m. the 19th, and 6 a- m. the 20th instant, a dwelling- house and shop at Swinton, was broken into, and stolen therein : a black and red plaid woollen Shawl; striped woollen Shawl, with fringe ; a small red, white, and puce woollen Shawl; fifteen ditto, of various colours; a quantity of red Flannel ; six pairs of elastic- side Boots ; five pairs of double soled shooting Boots ; fifteen pairs of boy's elastic- side Boots ; a lady's cloth Jacket ; and two dozen pairs of worsted Stockings. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Fullbrook, near Warwick; £ 10 in Gold, and five Watches, one marked 1 Hadland, Crimscote, Oct., 58' on case,, maker Clovis, Liverpool, No. 8430; one marked Hadland, Fullbrook, Oct., 63 on case, pair case, silver, No. 8104 and 7G7, marked on " outer case ; and one marked ' Geo. Hadland, Bishopton, May, 66, W. Pearce, Stratford- on- Avon, No. 5651, 1330' marked inside case at back. Information to be given to Inspector Rawlings, Stratford- on- Avon, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, October 19. Between 2 and 5 p. m. on the 11th instant, the dwelling- house of Jeremiah Lawrence, of the parish of Sutton Waldron, was broken and entered, and stolen therefrom : a suit of speckled grey Clothes ; a pair of fustian Trousers ; a red, green, and white coloured worsted Scarf ; an old- fashioned single case silver Watch ; and a pair of hob- nailed watertight Boots, nearly new. A man of the following des-! cription was seen near the spot about 3 o'clock : about 30 yrs. i of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, full fre8h face, brown hair, cut square, few whiskers, rather stout build ; dressed in cord or fustian trousers, dirty white jacket, stable cap, worsted scarf, and heavy lace- up boots, and was carrying a grey coat on his arm ; the stolen coat has light lining, and has been repaired f with black twill near the armholes, and the watch is out of repair, the chain being broken. A suit of old clothes ard an old pair of boots were found near the spot. Information to be given to Superintendent Brown, Dorset Constabulary, Shaftesbury.— Bow- street, October 19. Stolen on the 11th instant, by moans of housebreaking : two £ 5 Bank of England Notes; £ 45 iu Gold and £ 5 iu Silver, in two brown leather Purses ; a gold lever Watch, No. 13868, white dial, gold hands; two gold Chains, one much thicker than the other, both twisted link pattern ; a gold plated Mourning Brooch, with box of hair in centre, twisted pattern. From a line, on the 10th : a blue serge Jacket and Vest, man's size ; a lady's dark grey waterproof Cloak, with cape, five or six rows of braid round cape. On the 13th : a silver lever Watch, maker J. Heslop, Morpeth, No. 22449, silver Guard attached ; a brown cloth Topcoat, black velvet collar, double- breasted, small hole burnt through left hand pocket. On the 15th 11 inches high, proportionate make, sallow complexion, dank and black hair ; dressed in a grey tweed coat, torn at elbows, dark trousers, and cap ; he is a native of Carlisle, is married, and resided in Jane- street, Carlisle, where he was last seen on the 3rd instant. He travels the country with a horse and cart, selling rubbing stone, and is well known in the counties of Cumberland and Westmoreland. Stolen from a; field iu Milbourne- stree Carlisle, on the 19th August last: a bay Mare, about ij rs old, hollow back, white hind feet, and long tail. Information to be given to Chief Constable Hemingway, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, October 23. Stolen during the night of the 15th inrtant from a field, the property of Mr. Isaac Smith, Hobbs Cross Farm, Theydon Gammon : a bay Mare, aged, 15 hands high, hind legs white, and white stripe on nose Information to be given to Super- intendent Simpson, Police Station, Epping, Essex.— Bow- street, October 19. Stolen on the night of the 9th instant, from a field at Luham, near Longwathby, the property of Mr. Joseph Eyers, Great Salkeld, farmer : one Leicester tup Lamb, tail recently cut, and not marked. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Fowler, Penrith, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, October 19. Supposed stolen, from Luham, near Longwarthby, Penrith, between the 5th and 12th instant, the property of Mr. Smith : 35 L- eirc^ ter E wes. fi grey- faced Ewes. 9 Leicester Gimmer Hog3. 29 Ditto Lambs, and 1 grey- faced Lamb. All marked on the near side with the letters ' G. S.' within a circle. Information to be given to Superintendent Fowler, Penrith, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, October 19. A man of the following description who hired a Horse, Saddle, and Bridle at the Ram Hotel, Gloucestershire, on the 7th instant, to ride to Stroud, has absconded stealing the same : about 36 years of age, middle height and size, dark complexion, whiskers, and moustache ; dressed iu a black bowler hat, tweed suit, and had a satchel suspended by a strap across his shoulder ; he speaks with an Irish or Scotch accent; the horse is aged, bay colour, well bred, spirited, showy when going, shakey on the legs, short square tail, small mane, and has been fired on both hind fetlock joints. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person who will give such infor- mation as will lead to the recovery of the horse and convic- tion of the offender. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Griffin, Police Office, Gloucester.— Boic- stree't, October 16. Stolen from a field at Norbury on the night of the 12th instant: a roan- coloured Cart Mare, loi hands high, aged, in good condition, white hind ( feet, small lump on left flank, and had a foal suckling. £ 1 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as will . lead to the appre- hension and conviction of the offender or offenders on appli cation to Su)> erintendent Lawton, County Police Station, Stockport, Cheshire.— Bow- street, October 16. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. On the night of the 4th instant, the lodge at Halstead, Waterwillock, near Penrith, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a pair of man's light grey tweed Trousers ; and a grey woollen Shirt, with three narrow mauve stripes, one plait on breast, stitched on each side feather pattern, white pearl buttons. The thief is supposed to have had a dog with him. A convict license holder, who was convicted of sacri- lege in 1870, and who left Kendal some short time since, of which he is a native, is suspected : lie is 29 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, black hair, grey eyes, sallow complexion, hollow cheeks, and slender figure ; a gardener, and was for- merly employed as under gardener at Hallstead. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Fowler, Penrith, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, October 21. About 2 a. m. on the 12th instant, the shop window of Wm. Parry, grocer, Brownhills, was forced open apparently by an awl, and a quantity of Pickles, Hair Oil, and jars of Jam, the latter marked ' Hartley, Liverpool,' stolen. Sup- posed by a tramping shoemaker, a Scotchman, about 30 ynj. of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, walks very erect, military LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen on the 14th instant, the property of Charles Chapman, a pair of man's new Boots ( recovered): by a man, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, alight built, thin pale face, red hair and wbiikera ; dressed in black clothes and fur cap; he travels tho country with two other young men mending china aud umbrellas. Description of ROBERT ATTWOOD, a carman, of Rickmansworth, charged with embezzling £ 3 9s., belonging to Mr. John Parkhouse : he is about 22 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, dark brown hair, hazel eyes, aud fifebk complexion ; - dressed in a black coat, corduroy trousers, and • close- fitting cap with peak. Information to be given to Iuspector Chapman, Watford, or to Police Constable Clark, Rickmansworth, Herts, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, October 21. Description of HENRY CHARLES TAYLOR, labourer, - aud native of Hungerford, Barks, who absconded from Kintbury, charged with stealing Half- a- sovereigu from John Trahorn, a fellow- lodger, on the 15th instant: about 25 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 iuches high, swarthy complexion, grey eyes, brown hair, and ruptured, supposed to be wearing a truss ; dressed in a rough black cloth monkey jacket, light vest and trousers with dark stripe, aud a hard round- crown black hat ( too large for him) ; he is likely to seek employ- ment with a steam thrashing machine, as ostler at some inn, or as a stableman. He frequents public- houses and pretends he is sjioitlv coming into a legacy, also speaks of solicitors at Hungerford aud Cricklade who have the management of the affair. Information to be given to Superintendent Bennett, County Police Station, Newbury, Berks, who holds a warrant for his apprehensisn.— Bows', met, October 21. Stolen from a bed- room on the 13th instant, in the town of Winchelsea, the property of Mary Winter : six silver Tea Spoons, embnssed initials ' R. | M. E.'; a blue pilot Overcoat, lined with white serge, pockets at sides with flaps, large cloth buttons; a flannel Shirt, bound round the top with blue braid, marked ' J. Winter ;' and a Table Knife, with white handle. By a man who had been lodging at the house for a few days, aud said his name was HARRY CLEAVELAND ( supposed fictitious), about 35 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches nigh, tallow complexion, dark eyes, dark hair, proportionate figure, tattooed on both arms ( tomb- stone and Crucifix on each) ; dressed in a black jacket and vest, spotted with paint, dark grey striped trousers, hard grey felt hat, blue tie with white^ spots, grey woollen shirt, old high- low boots, much worn at toes ; a painter, and said he had a home at Maidstone aDd at Chelsea. Information to be given to Police Constable Masters, Winchelsea, Sussex.— Bow atreet, October 21. Absconded on the 1st instant, from Robertsbridge, Sussex, charged with stealing a Hand Cart ( recovered) JOHN WILLARD, alias JACK CORK, 45 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 iuches high, light complexion and hair, slight whiskers, round- shouldered, deaf, and coarse, loud voice ; he hawks nuts and swe « ts, and sometimes herrings ; . dressed in white slop, black felt hat, and old fustian trousers. Infor- mation to be given at the Chief Office, Lewes; to Police Constable Rieh& rdson, Robertsbridge ; or to Superintendent Jenner, Battle, Sussex, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- ttreet, October 21. Description of HENRY BROOKE, charged on a war- rant with stealing, on the 29th ultimo, the following Watches and Jewellery, of which he was the bailee, the property of Mr. William Hasted Howe, of Sudbury, watchmaker: a gold keyless hunting lever watch, jewelled in eight holes, and No. 80023 ; a lady's gold lever Watch, jewelled in four holes, No. 91155 ; a gold f- plate lever Watch, jewelled in ten holes, No. 90783; a silver open- face lever Watcli, capped and jewelled in two holes, No. 90703 ; four 18- carat gold Albert Chains ; three 18- carat gold Lockets ; a gentleman's single- stone diamond Ring, set in 18- carat plain gold baud ; nine 18- carat gold Rings, stones aad patterns various, some marked inside with very small figures; four igentlemen's coloured gold Pins, one monogram pattern; three sets of coloured gold Shirt Studs ; three sets of coloured gold Collar Studs ;| and three . pairs of bright gold Sleeve Links : 44 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, dark brown hair parted in the centre, hazel eyes, prominent nose, scar on the back of neck and on second finger of left hand ; he resided until, recently at No. 11, Station- road, Camberwell New- road, London. He ie well known to the P Division of the Metro- politan Police ; was sentenced to five years penal servitude on the 3rd May, 1809. £ 20 reward will be paid for his apprehension and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the value recovered. Information to be given to Head Constable Sach, Sudbury, Suffolk.— Bow- street, - Cktober 19. Stolen on the 7th instant, from the New Inn, Broad Eye, Stafford : a pair of hair- lined cloth Trousers, with blue 3tripe, and a Vest to match. By a navvy, who lodged in the house the previous night, a native of Northampton, and sup- posed to belong to the Army Service Corps, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 6 indies high, sallow complexion, full face, and dark brown hair and moustache ( both very thin); dressed iu a blue cloth jacket with pockets on the hips, light- coloured fancy doth vest, with a red flower on each breast," dark brown cord trousers, black hard felt hat, and militia boots ; stated that he was a pensioner. Information to be given to Inspector Hackney, Guildhall, Stafford.— Bow- street, Oct. 19. Farther information respecting the man, charged with stealing Tools, at the Alexandra Docks, Newport, described in the Police Gazette of the 12th instant: he is not so tall as there described being not more than 5 feet 5 to 6 inches high, he was spoken to in Cardiff, on the 8th instant, and then stated that he was going to Llansamlet, Glamorgan, to work. Information to be given to Inspector Sheppard, Newport, Monmouthshire.— Bow- street, October 19. :£ 24 lis. 8d., the property of tho Great Western Railway Company : he is 25 years of age, 5 feet C or 7 inches high, light complexion, slight make, dark brown eyes, dark hair, and small whiskers under the chin ; he has a crooked thumb on right baud, aud is of gentlemanly appearauce ; dressed in a black frock coat, dark mixture trousers, and bowler hat ; he has relatives at Abercarne, Monmouthshire. Information to be given to Head Constable Allison, Swansea, Glamorgan- shire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension, or to Super- intendent Langdon, Great Western Railway Station, High- street, Swansea.— Bow- street, October 16. Description of RICHARD NORTHALL, charged at Brownhills with stealing on the 10th instant £ 1 8s., aud a silver watch Guard, the property of W. Cox, a fellow lodger : about 23 years of age, 5 feet G inches high, dark hair and complexion, slight whiskers ; dressed in a brown pilot over- coat, black cloth waistcoat and trousers, and hard black hat ; he is a miner, and a native of Marleley, Salop. Information to be given to Superintendent Hill, B>- pwnliills, near Walsall, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 14. Stolen from a hopper- house at Wateringbury, Kent, between the, 24th and 25th ultimo : a black clotli monkey Jacket, velvet collar; two buttoris ou culf of each sleeve, velvet inside of cuffs, two pockets outside, buttons down each side of front, two buttons minus, light blue lining ; a black cloth vest, white buttons sewn ou with green thread ; a pair of black cloth Trousers, ribbed down sides, bound with red braid round top, worked with red and green silk fi\ » nt of waist; a pair of light lace- up Boots without nails, three hooks on ea; h side ; and a red, white, and blue silk Hand- kerckief. On Wednesday, the 14th instant, about 3 p. m., a man ( name unknown) about 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, brown hair, and beard and whiskers of recent growth; dressed in dark clothes aud cap, and spoke with a strong Scottish accent ; offered an Highland Dirk for pledge in New- castle, stating that he was au officer's servant, staying with his master at au biotel there ( which is false), and that they recently came from Aberdeen. The Dirk - was retained, it is of considerable value, aud ornamented with silver, carved aud chased, with Knife, Fork, and Dirk in one sheath, black chequered wooden handles, studded with silver, cairngorm stones on the end of each handle.
