W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the 3rd ultimo, PETER CAMPBELL, alias MIDGE or MIDGIE, in company with two other men now under remand, caused, by kicking, the death of Richard Morgan, at Liverpool: he is 21 or 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, proportionate build, dark brown hair, cut short, no whiskers, beard, or moustache, blue or grey eyes, rather prominent and well formed nose, pale complexion inclined to fair, rather long oval face, good forehead, the first finger of the right hand or the second of the left hand bent and stiff from a cut inside ; dressed in an old shabby black frock coat, which was rather short for him, dirty striped moleskin trousers in imitation of cloth, with black stripe down the side, and a round Scotch or Bucco cap, with peak to match and knob on the top ; he is of low habits, frequenting the corners of streets aud low public- houses, ard has been in custody as a suspected character ; has hitherto been employed in bottling stores. Her Majesty's Secretary of State for the Home Department, has authorized the payment of a reward of £ 100 to any person giving such inforir ation as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the said Peter Camp- bell. Information to be given to Head Constable Greig, Central Police Office, Dale- street, Liverpool, Lancashire.— Bow- streeSeptember 4. Found in a pool in the parish of Holmer, within the liberties of the city of Hereford, on the 30th ultimo : the body of a female Child, supposed to be from 12 to 15 months old, dark brown hair, and quite naked, except a small white pinafore, with crochet work round the armholes, which was found round its head ; supposed to have been in the water from ten days to a fortnight. A coroner's inquest was held on the 31st ultimo, and a verdict of ' Wilful murder' returned against some person or persons unknown. Information to be given to Superintendent Davies, City Police, Hereford.— Bow- street, September 2. Description of EDWIN BOOTH, a plane maker and native of Nottingham, charged with stabbing his wife Lucy Booth with a knife, with intent to murder, on the 15th inst., at Tamworth : he is 29 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, very slender built, pale complexion, light whiskers aud mous- tache ; dressed in dirty drab overcoat, black trousers and billycook hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Bowen, Burton- on- Trent, or to Inspector Woollaston, Tam- worth, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehen- sion.— Bow- street, August 24. face, stout build, sandy complexion ; dressed in black cloth coat, woollen cord trousers, and black sammy hat. They are both notorious poachers, and natives of Cheadle, Staffordshire. Information to be given to Sergeant Peake, Cheadle, Stafford- shire, who holds warrants for their apprehension.— Bow- street, September 2. Stolen from the person of a lady on the 24th instant, on board a steam packet, between Cowes and llyde : a Purse, containing two fancy Rings, one made of two gold wedding- rings, bearing inside the initials —' M. A. M.'; the other a mourning Ring, with diamonds in centre set round with pearls, aud supposed to have inside the following inscription : ' In memory of W. H. M., died May 12. 1874.' Information to be given to Superintendent Horan, Hants Constabulary, Newport, Isle of Wight.— Bow- street, August 31. BUEGLART AND HOUSE BREAKING. Escaped from the prison of Inveraray, in the county of Argyle, on the morniug of the 12th instant: JOHN CAMPBELL or CONWAY, a native of Maybole, Ayr- shire, 27 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, stout make, square face, straight nose, blue eyes, dark hair, no whiskers, small black moustache, dark sallow complexion, a shoemaker; and WILLIAM DICKSON, a native of Glasgow, 28 years of age, 5 feet 0i> inches high, stout make, promineut nose, small hazel eyes, sharp face, fresh complexion, brown hair, rather red whiskers and moustache, sloping shoulders, smart appearance, a bricklayer. These men are charged with housebreaking after previous convictions ; they were dressed in tradesmen's clothes. £$ reward will be paid for the ap- prehension of each man. Stolen on the 27th ultimo, from the person of a lady at Alton Towers, Staffordshire : a lady's small gold Geneva Watch, marked on the back, a small space left for initials, and a scratch on the figure seven. Information to be given to Inspector Hackney, Guildhall, Stafford.— Bow- street, Sept. 4. Stolen from the person at Ferryhill on the 10th July last: a patent silver lever Watch, No. 89142, maker E. Fryde, Sunderland. By WILLIAM FLOCKHART, alias ROBINSON, 21 years of age, 5 feet 8 iuches high, fresh complexion, blue eyes, dark brown hair, little or no whiakei s, slender figure, a coal miner, much given to d'ink ; dressed in old dark coat, old dirty dark grey mixture trousers, and dark vest. Information to be given to Supeiintendent Dunn, Durham County Constabulary, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bonn- street, September 2. Description of two men charged with highway robbery with violence, at Cheadle, Staffordshire : DAVID SHAW, alias KINGEY, 5 feet 7 inches high, thin face, sharp nose, light complexion, sandy whiskers, slender build ; dressed ill black sammy hat, black cloth coat, and cotton cord trousers ; and HENRY MACE, alias RUT, 5 feet 7jt inches high, full HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen on the night of the 31st ultimo, from a field in the parish of Barnwell, the property of Mr. James Fortescue : a strong bright bay cart Mare, in good condition, 6 years old, 16 hands high, a white blaze down the face, both hind legs white, long black mane and tail. Information to be given to Superintendent Noble, Oundle, Northamptonshire.— Bow- street, September 4. Stolen from a field at the parish of Draycott, near Oxford, on the 23rd ultimo : two down ewe Sheep, the property of Mr. William Latham. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Feinsby or Inspector Yates, County Police Station, Oxford.— Bow-' treit, September 2. Stolen from a field at Lawley Farm, on the night of the 28th ultimo, ic the parish of Wellington, iu the county of Salop : a Shropshire down Lamb, the property of Jatnc- s Jones, farmer, which was slaughtered in the stack yard adjoining the field and house, and a part of it roasted in a pit cabin at Lawley. £ 2 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Stolen from a field at Tynycoed, in the parish of Dol- gelley, during the night of the 26th ultimo, the property of Mr. Robert Griffiths : a black Pony, with black mane and tail, 10 years old, about 12 hands high, broken wind, and enlarged belly. Information to be given to Inspector Jones, Police Office, Dolgelley, Merionethshire.— Bow- street, Sept. 2. Found at Stafford on the 20th instant, and supposed to have been stolen, a small dark brown horse Pony, aged, in working condition, cut tail. Information to be given to Inspector Hackney, Guildhall, Stafford. — Bow- street, Aug. 31. Stolen from a field on Grant's Farm, in the parish of Bampton, during the night of the 21st instant, the property of Mr. Edward Gooding: a chestnut Mare, 12 years old, about 16 hands high, has a white streak down the face, a little white above one hind hoof, marks of galls on the shoulders, and permanently lame in the near fore foot, one or both knees broken or blemished, and in good condition ; it has been used as a hunter, aud it is supposed that it has been ridden some distance, and turned adrift. Information to be eiven to Superintendent Collins, Devon Constabulary, Cullompton, or to Sergeant Yole, Devon Constabulary, Bampton. - Bow- st> eet, August 31. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Description of FREDERICK BACON, charged with stealing from a dwelling- house at Cockthorpe, Norfolk, on the 26th ultimo, two Sovereigns and two Florins, the pro- perty of William Ainger : about 19 yeais of age, about 5 feet 0 inches high, fresh complexion, rather small features, slight built, dark brown hair and eyes, no whiskers, scar from a cut iuside right wrist, nearly two iuches long ; dressed in an old black cloth coat, pockets outside, tight fittiug worsted cord trousers, mended at tile knees, the material is new at at the bottom of the legs inside, black and white mixture waistcoat, mixed coloured striped linen shirt, light coloured necktie, old brown chummy hat, and lace- up boots. He was formerly employed with some steam roundabouts, and will probably be found attending fairs, Information to be given to Superintendent Murrell, Walaingham, Norfolk, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 4. Absconded from Foulsham, charged with stealing two Chickens, the property of Thomas Groom, of Foulsham, on the 27th ultimo : JAMES WYATT, 18 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, grey eyes, sandy hair, and florid complexion, one upper tooth out in front ; dressed in mixed cloth trousers, with stripes down the sides, old black billycock hat, torn in front, and lace- up boots ; a native of East Dereham, Norfolk. Absconded from the borough of Dudley on the 21st ult. : JAMES BATE, charged on a warrant with having stolen on the 18th ultimo : two Bags, and 210 lbs. of Nails : he is about 26 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, propoi tionate made, grey eyes, by trade a labourer, an< l formerly was a member of the Manchester Police Force. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Burton, Borough Police Office, Dudley, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, September 4. Stolen on the morning of the 3rd instant, from the dwelling- house of Arthur James Baker, St. Al ban's : a silver Geneva Watch. By a man, 27 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fair complexion, saudy whiskers and moustache; dressed in daik clothes and black deerstalker hat; he was traced on the road to Dunstable. Information to be given to Superintendent Pike, St. Alban's, Herts.— Bow- street, September 4. Stolen on the 31st ultimo, from the cottage of William Howes, labourer, of Coin St. Aldwyns : £ 1 7s. in Money, a green Necktie, and a white Pocket- handkerchief. By a man, an engine- fitter, 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark hair, eyes, and moustache, no whiskers, and has a mark of cut over the left eye ; dressed in a blue cloth jacket, bound with braid, much worn, the threads showing up the back, dark mixture vest aud trousers, elastic- side boots with buttons up the fronts, and bowler bat; supposed to be from the neighbourhood of New Cross, London, where he has a friend now residing. Information to be given to Superintendent Wocd, Constabulary Office, Cirencester, or to Sergeant Mason, Police fetation, Fairford, Gloucestershire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, September 4. Description of CHARLTON WYKES, charged with larceny : 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair com- plexion, light hair, small whiskers ; dressed in a brown tweed suit, lace boots, no stockings, billycock hat, light cashmere scarf, marked ' J. P.' in corner; a milk Carrier.— Metropolitan Police, T Division, September 2. Stolen on the 29th ultimo, from the dwelling- house of Mr. William Upton, in the parish of Ratcliffe- on- the- wreake, Leicestershire : two odd Boots, men's size, one lace- up Balmoral, with brass eyelet- holes, the other elastic sides, with four flat buttons on it, and toe- capped, both nearly new. By a tramp, from 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet S or 9 inches high, dark bair and whiskers, meeting under the chin ; dressed in dark brown short jacket, with white slop under- neath, hard billycock hat, and has a red handkerchief rouEd his neck; is wearing the itolen boots, as a pair of old ones were left behind, information to be given to Superintendent Moore, Constabulary Office, Leicester.— Bow- street, Sept. 2. Desjriptiou of RICHARD GRIFFITHS, alias MUM- FORD, for whose apprehension a warrant has been issued, charging him with stealing, during the present month, from the dwelling- house of Mr. Charles Hiuce, of Sutton- hill, in the parish of Diddlebury : a silver Brooch; a gold Locket, with the likeness of a man iu it, as large as a ? s.- piece ; and a small brown Basket with lid :— he is about 25 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 iuches high, black hair ( rather long), whiskers, aud moustache ( about two months' growth), very dark com- plexion, and sullen- lookiug ; dressed in a billycock hat, old brown rough jacket, mole- skin or cord vsst, very dirty cord trousers, and old lace- up boots very much worn, several cuts in the toe of each. He was last seen going in the direction of Bridgnorth, towards Staffordshire, carryiug the stolen basket with a white slop over it and a strap buckled round. Has a relative residing at Common- side, Pensnett, Stafford- shire. Information to be given t » Superinteudent Baxter, Church Stretton, or to P. O. Absconded from Gloucester on the 27th instant, charged with embezzling £ 11 16s. 4d., the monies of Messrs. John Williams and Co., coal merchant: AITKEN SIMPSON ROBERTSON, a clerk, about 21 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, long features, slight whiskers aud moustache, and dark brown hair ; dreased iu a black bowler hat and dark suit. Iuformation to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Griffin, Gloucester, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. -' Bow- street, August 31. Stolen from the Angel Iun, Aberystwith, on the 21st instant : a small japauued Cash- box, containing about £ 12 in Gold and Silver ; the property of George Thomas, a lodger. By WILLIAM MATHEWS, his servant, who also lodged in the same house, aud absconded the same day : ho is 24 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, no whiskers, bracelets tattooed ou both wrists, with blue and red ink, and both arms are covered with tattoo marks ; dressed in fustian trousers, dark cloth jacket and vest; he stated that he was a native of London, P O L I C E G A Z E T T E. and is well known at Presteign, Radnorshire. Stolen from a bed- room at the Shakspeare Hotel, Dover, on the 25th iustaut: a daik Overcoat; a blue cloth single- j breasted Coat; two pairs of light cloth Trousers, buttons marked-' Swift, Strand'; a thick- backed ( Jomb ; aud mi imitation tortoiseshell ITair Brush. By a man 30 years of | age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark cuily hair, black bushy | moustache, probably false ; dressed in dark clothes and daik deer- stalker hat, and represented himself to be a commercial traveller. McMANUS, advertised iu the Police Ga . tte of the 7th instant, charged with stealing i! 7l) 0, the monies of the Corporation <> f Black- burn : he is 45 years of age,' 5 feet 4 indies high, propor- tionate make, oval face, thin nose, small eyes, grey hair, probably dyed black, thin black whiskers, and no beard or moustache; dressed in a black surtout csal, light cloth trousers and vest, and black silk hat ; of respectable appear- ance, and a native of Hoghton, near Blackburn. He will probably endeavour to go to America or the Continent. lie has, under the name of J. Stolen on the 23rd instant, from a dwejling- liouse in Sandbach : a chocolate- colsured Indian nilk Handkerchief; a pair of women's strong leather lace- up Boots, clump soles. By a lodger who absconded, about 24 years of age, 5 feet high, light hair and complexion ; dressed iu sleeved woollen cord vest, black cloth trousers, and dogskin cap. States he comes from Bilstion, is an [ under- hand puddler, has leceutly worked at Tunstall, where he was known as BRUMMY or BRUMMAGEM TOMMY. Stolen from a dwelliDg- house at North Ormesby, near Middles borough, on the morning of the 25th instant: a grey tweed Jacket, nearly new, two pockets outside, one inside left breast, dark lining, brown bone buttons ; a pilot cloth Jacket, half worn, two pockets outside, and one inside left breast, black buttons, and dark liuiug ; a pair of new cord Trousers, boy's size; a cord Waistcoat; and two woollen Scarves, one white, one red and white. By an Irishman, 22 years of age, about 5 feet 1 inch high, brown hair, no whiskers, stout built, auu walks lame with right leg ; dressed in a brown cap with peak, dirty brown suit, aud strong lace- up boots, or part of the stolen property. Absconded from Alfreton, Derbyshire, on the 22nd inst., charged with stealing a leather Purse, with steel clasp, con- taining £ 3 in Gold, ant] g, pair of jet. Ear- drops ; the property of Elizabeth Nicholls : JOHN WEBB, shoemaker, 33 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, light hair aud moustache, sallow complexion, and walks erect; dressed in old black cloth clothes, and round felt hat. And ELLEN WEBB, his wife, about 28 years of age, about 5 fpet 1 inch high, very stou" built, dark hair, and fresh complexion. They are natives of Liverpool. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. • Description of JOHN LORSBY NEWTON, late of Leighton Buzzard, miller and corn dealer, charged with cou- cealing from his creditors property of the value of £ 10 aud upwards, with intent to defraud : he is about 50 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, stout build, fresh complexion, hair turn- ing gre/, large and whiskers and moustache ; dresses gene- rally in a grey suit and hard grey hat; he may probably be heard of at Birmingham or Cardiff. A warrant has been issued for his apprehension. Information to be given to Superintendent Clough, Leighton Buzzard, Beds.— Bow- street, Auqust 31. Description of MARY ROBERTS, of the parish of Trydelyn, Flintshire, charged with ob'aiuing 30s., by means of false pretences : she is abont 16 years of age, 5 feet high, pale complexion, and d « rk hair ; dressed iu a black dress, with threo rows of puce braid round the bottom, black straw hat, trimmed with black and white ribbon, ller father resides at Preesgwyn, near Chirk, and she has frieuds at Bailyhead, Oswestry, Llansaiutffraid, and Corwen. Infor- mation to be given at the Chief Constable's OOice, Ruthio, or to Police Constable Harnaman, Llaude^ ler, Mold, Flint- shire.— Bow- street, August 26. MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATIONS. On the 21st ultimo, the dead Body of a newly- born male Child, was found concealed iu a stone fence by the side of the turnpike road in tne township of Grasmere : the body was wrapped in a piece of new red flannel, about a yard square, and bro. vn paper. The medical evidence given at the inquest, shows that the deceased was born alive, and the inquest is adjourned until the 7th inrtaut. Information to be given to Superintendent Bird, Constabulary Office, Kendal, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, September 4. Committed to York Assizes, from Middlesborough, on the 1st instant: a man who gives the name of ALFRED GATHERCOLES, has resided at Stockton- on- Tees for some time, and has been writing to tradesmen in different parts of the country to tret goods from them, in the name of CLIFFORD DE REDGRAVE. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Borough Police Office, Middles- borough, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, September 4. On the morning of the 31st ultimo, the dead body of a • newly- born male Child, wrapped up in a piece of slate- ooloured horse cloth, with the initial ' J.' on one corner, also • part of a bolster- cuse, and the whole tied up in part of an old sack, was found on the batik of the river Medway, near Aylesford- bridge, Maidstone, Kent. The body appeared to have been in the water about a fortnight, and is supposed to have been dropped from some barge trading up or down the river. An inquest was held on the body on the 1st instant, and an open verdict returned by the jury. DANIEL McCALLUM, chjirgfd with violently assault- ing John Smith, gamekeeper, near to Loch Thorn in this county, ou the 3 Ist- ultimo : lie is a blacksmith, 23 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, ordinary make, dark liVu'r, little if auy whiskers, dark complexion, a native of Greenock, and a mark of an old wound on forehead dressed in short dark coat, dark trousers, and a dark or blue cloth cAp ; a poacher, and has beeu convicted of assault and fraud. Another about 40 or 45 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, sallow complexion, broad face, dark hair and whiskers round the chin ; dressed in a dark suit of clothes, high silk hat, and had a black fur rug over his arm. And the other from 40 to 43 years of age, 5 feet C or 7 Ins. high, fair complexion, long ginger beard and moustache, and stout figuge; dressed iu dark clothes, black felt hat, and carried a heavy meltou overcoat over his arm.
