CONTAINING The substance of all Informations received in eases of Felony and of Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputed Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Barnes of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possible, of Property that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. No. 5513 FRIDAY, MAY 29, 1874. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Sigisatnre of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to ME. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, ail ILettcrs addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion iu the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the morning of the 19th instant, Mr. Joseph Ward, of Hay, Breconshire, was found dead in bed, from injuries received in a scuffle the previous uight, at Hay, beiDg fair night. At the coroner's inquest held on the 2lst instant, a verdict of Manslaughter was returned against a man named JOHN SMITH, m custody, aud against another man unknown, short aud stout, and dressed in grey clothes ; he has a shooting gallery or show, and travels to fairs. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Evans, Crickhowell, or to Sergeant Jones, Hay, Breconshire. - Bow- street, May 27, On the morning of the 15th instant, the dead Body of a female Child, newly- born, pinned up iu a piece of dirty cotton, a piece of a blanket, a piece of oilskin, and an old black shawl, tied up with two pieces of white tape, was found in Meases- lane, North Shields, and from the medical evidence taken at the inquest, a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' against some person or persons unknown was returned. Abscended from Nottingham, charged with forgery : EDWIN CHATTAWAY TEMPLE, late secretary to the Midland Counties Hide, Skin, and Fat Market Company Limited : about 52 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, small whiskers on sides of face and short moustache, turning « rey, sallow complexion; generally dressed iu grey clothes, with a billycock hat, or in a black frock coat and silk bat; wears an eye- glass, aud is a great frequenter of public- houses. £ b reward. Stolen from the person at the Midland Railway Station, Newark- on- Trcnt, Notts, on the 14th instant : a gold English lever Watch, second hands, and opens iu front; also a gold Watch, maker Liddel and Sons, Edinburgh, No. 1681. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Osborne, County Police Station, Newark, Notts.— Bow- st'eet, May 18. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Ou the night of the 22ud instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. R. W. Moore, High- street, Malmesbury, was broken into, and stolen therein ; about ,£ 10 in Gold, a £ 5 Bent Note ( supposed Tetbury Bank), some suiall Silver, and three 5s.- packets of Coppers. The house of Mr. Charles Thrrfsh, iu the same street, was brokeu into, and stoleu therein : six old- fashioned silver Tea Spoons, a bad Half- sovereigns, and a Half- crown. By two men : one is between 30 aud 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 pr 9 inches high, rather stout, dark com- plexion and moustache, and whiskers supposed shaved off; dressed in dark clothes, fancy cotton cord trousers, red mix- ture wrapper worn loose rouud the neck, and black soft hat ; the other is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, sandy bair, aud tuft of hair on chin ; dressed in 23 yrs. of age, 5 ft. 3 ins. high, pockpitted, sandy whiskers, and stout make; dressed iu dark coat, cord trousers, and round felt hat; travels with another man, with a very old home- made hand barrow, long shafts, collecting rags and bones, and Rtops at lodging- houses ; was last heard of at Kingston, on the 16th instant. Stolen on the 22nd instant, from 228, Strand : a silver horizontal open- face Watch, ' A. Wood, London' on face, ' Commercial- road East' on back, a gold curb pattern albert Chain, gold Seal, Key, aud a Half Sovereign attached ; a meerschaum Pipe, mounted in gold aud silver ; and a beaded light leather Case. By a youth, 15 years of age, 5 feet 2 ins. high, fair complexion, light hair ; dressed iu dark jacket, pockets at sides, light trousers, dark vest, heavy laced boots, aud round hat— Metropolitan Police, E Division, May 29. Absconded on the 22nd instant, from London Bridge Railway Station, charged with stealing a japanned tin Box, ' V. Description of RUFUS LINCOLN, who absconded from Horsford on the 5th instant, charged with embezzling £ 2 3s. 6d., the property of his master, Mr. Francis Boyce, of Shottisham, a miller, on the 29th July last : he is about 35 years of age, about 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark hair, blue eyes, whiskers ( turning grey) inclined to be sandy, has a moustache, scar from burn on chin and throat, and stiff joint in one arm from the effects of a burn. Information to tie given to Superintendent" Riches, Loddon, or to Police Constable Hubbard, Horsford, Norfolk, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bm- street, May 22. Description of WILLIAM DAVIS, a tailor's assistant, who absconded from Middlesbrough on the 19th instant charged on a warrant with embezzling several sums of Money belonging to Messrs. Thompson and Sons, tailors : he is a native of Bath, 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, sallow complexion, thin face, sunken eyes, long chin, brown hair, moustache and tuft under chin fair, small whiskers, slender figure, square shoulders, and has an impediment iu his speech; dressed in a blue cloth frock coat, dark trousers, ; ind black silk hat. Information to be given to Chief Constable Sagger- son, Middlesbrough, York.— Bow- street, Mail 22. Charged on a warrant with stealing on the 15th instant, 4* 120 : SHADRACH SIMPSON, about 3G years of age, 5 feet 10i inches high, dark hair, turning grey, cut short, dark grey moustache, small imperial whiskers, and beard shaved off, dark eyes, limps with right leg, of military ap- pearance, and goon address ; supposed to be wearing a suit of corded dark blue cloth. £ 10 reward will be paid by the owners of the money to any person giving such information as will lead to his apprehension and recovery of the money, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Furthev particulars respecting GEORGE EDWARD FOULKES and CHARLES PARRY, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 13th instant, aud for whose apprehen- sion a reward of £ 5 is offered. They have been traced to Oxford, and are now supposed to be iu London Information to he given to Superintendent Haines, County Constabulary, Whitchurch, Salop.— Bow- street, May 20. Stolen during the night of the 16th instant, from the dwelling- housf <, f Henry Watts, chimney sweep, St. Alban's a. black cloth Coat, wish a pocket on each side, and one ia left breast; a new double- breasted black Vest; a caliio Shirt: and a pair of Socks. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Castleford, Ycrkshire, on the 9th instant : a black cloth dress Coat; a pairof black cloth Trousers, fall fronts, lining pieced at bottom • a black and white plaid Vest ; four silk Neckties, of differerc colours ; a sealskin Cap ; a gold Pin ; a pair of blue striped Trousers ; a light- coloured doeskin Vest; a light cloth Vet; a silk Hanokerchief ; a white and green Muffler ; two vhite calico Shirts ; two sets of. Shirt Studs, black on one sid' and gilt on the other ; a pair of brown worsted Stockings ; aid £ 4 Os. 9d. in Gold and Silver ; the property of William Summers, labourer. By WILLIAM WILTON, a colliei who lodged in the house a week, when he absconded with he property : about 27 years of age, 5 feet 5 iuches high, ligit complexion, grey eyes, light hair, whiskers, and moustacb, proportionate build ; dressed in a dark Cloth blue striped sut, soft billycock hat, and elastic- side hoots ; he is supposed to belong to Durham or Cumberland. Wilton lately worced in the county of Durham, aud was known by the nam of WM. RAN- DALE alias NORRIS. Information to le given to Super- intendent Hall. West Riding Constabulay, Pontefract, who holds a warraut for his apprehension.— Bf- street, Mav 20. shin of right leg from injury. He was sentenced to 5 years penal servitude at Wakefield on 3rd Maneb, 1870, aud was liberated on licence from Parkhurst Prison 27th ultimo, aud left Windsor on the 18th instant. Whoever wiE apprehend him, or give such information as will cause his apprehensiou, shall receive £ 1 Is. reward from Superintendent Hayes, I Windsor, Berks.— Bow- street, May 25. Description of W. DALZELL PEARCE, charged at Windsor with obtaining money under false pretences : about 44 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, brown hair ( turning I grey)", beard and moustache in one, and chin shaved ; dressed [ in a light suit, generally wears lavender- colour gloves ; sup- I posed to have been in the Royal Navy ; frequents race- courses. He stayed at the Castle Hotel, Windsor, one night iu April last, and gave a cheque, drawn on the London and Westminster Bank, for £ 35 to pay his bill, and received the change ; the cheque was returned ' No account during t'u « last six months.' Information to be given to Superintendent Hayes, Windsor, Berks, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, May 25. Description of GEORGE NASH, charged on a warrant with obtaining Money by false pretences : about 28 years of age, 5 feet 6 pr. 7 inches high, dark eopiplaxioo, round full face, dark brown hair, thick dark moustache, whiskers shaved off; generally dressed in a dark mixed suit and black Oxford hat.
