Information to bo given to Chief Constable Hemingway, City Police Office, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, May 8. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Description of HANNAH CUMBERBACH, charged at Southport with having wilfully murdered her newly- born female child, on or about the 23rd ultimo ; at an inquest held on the 6' th instant, the jury returned a verdict of ' W ilful murder' against her: she is about 30 years of age, about o feet 1 inch high, well built, square shoulders, light com- plexion and hair, has an enlargement on the neck on each side, but the right side is considerably larger than the left, also a burn mark on the right arm, commencing just below the elbow, and extending up to the shoulder and to the right breast; supposed to have on a black or alpaca dress, black bonnet with red rose ou the top, paisley shawl, and had with her, when she left Southport on the 39th ultimo, two new print Dresses ; her husband is a collier, named Isaac Cumber- bach, formerly of Kidsgrove, Staffordshire ; her maiden name was Inskip, aud she has generally been employed as a domestic servant. A reward of £ 10 will be paid to any person who will give such information as shall lead to her apprehension. Information to be given to Head Constable Kershaw, Town Hall, Southport, Lancashire.— Bow- street, May 11. ARSON AMD WTFLFUL BURNING. On the night of the 30th ultimo, a Fowl- house, a Faggot- stack, and a number of Fowls, belonging to the Rev. A. Child, of Rotherfield, Sussex, were burnt aud destroyed. Any person or persons giving such information as shall lead to the apprehension aud conviction of the offender or offenders, shall receive £ 10 reward. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes ; to Superintendent Peerless, Uck- field ; or to Sergeant Avery, Court House, Mark Cross, Sussex.— Bow- street, May 11. Description of WILLIAM JACKSON, charged under a coroner's warrant, supposed to have murdered his sister, Elizabeth Jackson, on the night of the 5th iustaut, at Kirk- lington, in the North Riding of Yorkshire : he is 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout made, brown hair, tuft of hair on end of chin, dark complexion, and has a military appearance ; dressed in dark grey cloth shooting coat, pockets outside, yellow striped trousers and vest, black necktie, with a little blue iu it, white cotton shirt, marked ' 77th Regiment of Foot,' black billycock hat, and lace- np Boots; has with him a black bag, containing a pair of trousers and vest., two pairs of iocks, two razors in cases, supposed marked ' 77th Regiment of Foot,' a woolleu shirt, and a discharge - from the 77th Regiment of Foot. Description of WILLIAM MILNER BARRATT, charged on a warrant with uttering a forged Bill of Exchange : about 30 years of age, about b feet 4 inches high, medium build, thin face, red hair, ginger whiskers and moustache ; dressed in grey coat and vest, dark trousers, and black felt billycock hat; he is a gasfitter by trade, and has worked for the Elland Gas Company, near Halifax, aud for Messrs. J. B. Porters and Co., gas engineers, Lincoln ; his father is manager for the Accrington Gas Compauy. Information • to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Leeds.— Low- street, May 15. Description of a man who absconded from Carlisle ou the 4th inst., charged ( on a warrant) with forgery : GEORGE SMITH, late a goods checker on the North British Railway at Edinburgh, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, slender build, pale complexion, " and small light whiskers and moustache; dressed in a blue pilot jacket, s- late- coloured ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person on Ely Racecourse, on the 1st instant : a silver lever Watch, No. 18048, with ' John Davies' engraved inside on the winding case. £ 5 reward wilt be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to the re ; overy of the watch and conviction of the offender or offenders. Stolen from the person at Waterhouses, near Durham, on the 10th instant : a silver lever Watch, very old outer en1 e much worn, white dial, cracked all over, No. 20526, maker George Asplin, Wigan, had a paper inside, with ' Thomas Ruddy, 11361' on it. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Dunn, County Constabulary, Durham.— Bow- itreet, May 15. Stolen from the person of Mr. George Morris, wine merchant, Welshpool, at Chester Races, on the 13th instant : a gold Geneva Watch, white dial, the long h;. nl broken, and on the inside of the inner case is engraved ' Jewelled in ten holes,' attached to which was a gold albert Chain, with a small Seal and a gold Dollar. £ o reward will be paid by Mr. Morrison the recovery of the said watch, chain, & c., and conviction of the offender or offenders. Stolen on the 4th instant, from the person of Charles Tegg, whilst drunk and asleep in a field at LatnDonrne, Wood- lands, Berks : a small- size silver verge Watch, with consular case, No. 12028, had attached a small piece of black Tape. Supposed by some gipsies. Information to lie given to Superintendent O'Neill, Wantage, Berks.— Bow- st., April 11. Stolen from the person at Newmarket on the Cith ingt. : an old double- case small gold Hunting Watch, No. 3004, chased cases, bottom worn much more than top ; and a silver Jever Watch, jewelled in one hole, maker Wilkinson, Leeds. Information to be given to Superintendent Benson, New- market, Cambs.— Bow- street, May 11. Description of a youth charged with highway robbery at Stonnall, near Walsall, on the 4th instant, he produced a clasp knife and demanded Money from two ladies, and took from them a small paper Parcel, containing a female's old brown cloth Jacket: he is about 17 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair complexion, freckled face, and average build ; dressed in dark cloth cap, with peak, old black cloth jacket, light coloured trousers, strong hob- nailed lace- up boots, and had a shnrt thick stick in his hand ; appeared to havo worked in some iron work. Information to be giveu to Sergeant Hammond, Police Station, Shenstone, near Lich field, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, Mat/ 8. Aprons; two pairs of ladies' white cotton Stockings; two white cotton Chemises, trimmed with needlework ; two large white damask Table Cloths ; and about a stone of uncooked Beef. On the night of the 9th instant the dwelling- house of Mr. Redman, Hightown, Wrexham, was entered, and the following property stolen therein: a small silver Geneva Watch, gold rim round case, aud attached to the Chain a Key resembling a pencil- case, with a white stone at end, one Locket and Seal, heart shaped, all gold ; a black melton Coat, with side pockets and a small outside breast Jacket, and one inside ; a woman's single- breasted cloth Jacket, partially made ; and 4s. in Silver. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Bradshaw, Wrexham, Denbighshire.— Bono- street, May 11. On the 8th. instant the house of Edward Matthews, of Wootton House, parish of Bishops Castle, Salop, was broken and entered, aud three gold Rings, viz., one set with pearls, one keeper, and one wedding; three old foreign silver Coins— one an Alexander coin, about the size ot a crown piece, the other two the size of a half- crown, and a Shilling, stolen therein. Also on ths 8th instant, the cottage of Ann Poundley, of the parish of Lydbury North was broken and entered, and about 21s. stolen therein. By two men of the following description : one about* 6G years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, and grey hail-; dressed in old Jdirty dark clothes, high black hat, and carries a small roll of' oil cloth. The other is about 28 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, black hair and moustache ; | dressed in dark clothes, hard black hat, wore a large gold I Albert, aud is of respectable appearauce. Information to be , given to Superintendent Baxter, Church Stretton, Salop.— I Bow- street, May 11. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. . The dwelling- house of Mr. John Preston, Nantwich, was burglariously entered during the night of the 7th, or morning cf the 8th instant, aud the following property stolen therein : a blue pilot Overcoat, with flap pockets outside on hips, black velvet collar, lined with dark lining ; an old black body Coat, much worn, with narrow sleeves ; and a pair o£ man's elastic- side Boots, nearly new, with blocked fronts, aud may be wearing the stolen property. Information to be given to Superintendent Laxton, Nantwich, Cheshire.— Bow- sireei, May 11. Stolen, by mear. s of housebreaking, from a farm house near Northallerton, between ll and 12 a. m. on the 5th inst.: a brown Top Coat, with black covered button's : tWd dalle lining, has been torn under the right pocket and mended a black cloth Coat and Vest; a pair of brown striped Trousers with fall fronts ; three white cotton Shirts ; and a black and red woolleu ditto ( the black coat and shirts were sold at Richmond the same evening). By a man about 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 inchcs high, dark complexion, thin aud sickly- looking, dark brown hair, whiskers, aud moustache, which is short and scrubby ; dressed in the stolen top coat ( very long for him) and trpusers, cloth cap with cheesecutter peak, aud old lace- up boots. Stolen during the night of the 8th instant, from the dwelling house of John Marshall, of Harswell, farmer : ii large rough daik blue Ulster Overcoat, double- breasted, liiied with blaclc twill, which is torn at left side, dark horn buttons, three pockets, two in laps and the other outside left breast ; a rough grey Topcoat, double- breasted, lined with black aud red plaid horsesheeting, black velvet collar, dark bone buttons, torn at right side near a button ; a new Dress, partly made up, containing thirteen yards of black and white check plaid Print; a grey wiusey Dress, waist trimmed with black velvet, and a flounce at bottom of skirt; a white calico Petticoat, with several small tucks round bottom ; two white cotton Shirts, with linen fronts; eight or nine white hollawl HOR& E AKD CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from Compton Wyniates, in the county of War- wick, on the night of the 11th instant, or early cn the following morning, the property of Mr. George Daces : a half bred bay Mm j, 8 years old, 15 hands 3 inches high, a few white spots on the back, where the saddle is placed, mark of a wart on the near shoulder, with thin mane and tail ; a Saddle, recently lined ; and a Bridle, with snaffle bit. Supposed by a man about 36 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, sandy complexion, light hair, moustache, aud thin ' whiskers ; generally dressed in black frock coat, light plaid trousers and vest, and'high- crowned hat. Stolen on the 26th March last, from Treface, in the parish of Morlgrove, in the county of Pembroke, the property of Mr. Daniel Phillips : a bay mare Pony, aged, white star on forehead, long mane, switch tail, without shoes, aud is of the mountain breed ; she was subsequently seen at Havodwen, in the borough- of Carmarthen. Information to be given to Superintendent Jones, Fishguard, or to Chief Constable 1 Stokes, ' Constabulary Office, Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire. — Bvbi- street, May 11. Stolen on the night of the Gth instant : a bay mare Pony, about 13 hands high, 5 years old, nearly thorough bred, clipped bang tail, white hairs on top of near shoulder, from a meadow in Gaywood ; the property of Mr. W. Warnes, farmer, Gaywood. Information to be given to any Police Officer, or to Sergeant Borley, Gaywood, King's Lynn, Norfolk.— Baw- sireet, May 11. Description of WILLIAM EDWARD LORD, alias COOK, charged with stealing a Pony at Frating, near Col- chester, op the 14th ultimo : about 12 years of age, but looks j older, 4 feet 6 inches high, stout build, fresh complexion, light li'air, face rather sunburnt, and large, rolling, fiery eyes ; j respectably dressed, well educated for a youth of his age, aud j of gentlemanly appearance ; was last seen in the neighbour- ! hood of Epsom, where he committed two robberies ; is in the ] habit of running away from boarding schools. Description of CHARLES PARRY, late of the parish of Whitchurch, surveyor and collector of rates for the Whit- church Local Board, for whose apprehension a warrant has been issued, ou a charge of embezzling £ 120, the monies of his employers : from 35 to 40 years of age, about 5 feet j 6 inches liigh, thin pale face, little light whiskers on cheeks, ; thin light brown hair, usually worn long, slight built, right ; shoulder a little higher than the left, bends his head a little ; forward to the left when walking, and of very delicate | appearauce. Since he absconded from Whitchurch, he has been lodging at 34, Bridge- street, Manchester, and going by POLICE GAZETTE. May 15 the name of Mr. HILL. Stolen ou the 9th instant, from Norfolk- street, Strand : two sets of gold Studs, one plain, aud one embossed; two gold Studs,' embossed ; a gold scwrf Ring, chased ; a gold scarf Pin, fly on top ; a pair of gold sleeve iiuks, embossed ; a rough monkey jacket; a pair of tight mixture Trousers aud Vest ; a billycock Hat; a pair of lace Boots, narrow toes, hooks, and eyelets ; a coloured Shirt, Byron collar ; a mauve Necktie, imitation sailor's kuot ; aud a pair of light balbriggan Socks. By a private in the 6th Dragoon Guards, stationed at Hounslow, Regimental No. 1199, 23 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion aud hair, no whiskers or moustache, slim build, of geiitlemanly appearance, dressed in the stolen clothes.— Metropolitan 1' olice, £ Division, A'ay 13. BURROW, tak- Hig with him a black leather Bag, supposed to have the name of the firm on it, containing about .£ 200 in Gold and Silver, the property of his late employers John Freeman ami Sous, of Penryn, Cornwall: he is 32 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, slender, sallow complexion, dark hair, moustache, and whiskers, the latter thin and long, very short- sighted, and generally wears spectacles, with gold frames of very light make, aud is of gentlemanly address. Had in bis possession a brown leather portmanteau, con- taining a revolver. £ 20 reward will be gives for his appre- hension. Information to be given to Superintendent Grant, Helstsn, Cornwall, or to Inspector Middle, Falmouth, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 13. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Castleford, Yorkshire, on the 9th iustant : a black cloth dress Coat; a pair of black cloth Trousers, fall fronts, lining pieced at bottom ; a black and white plaid Vest ; four silk Neckties, of different colours ; a sealskin Cap ; a gold Pin ; a pair of blue striped Trousers ; a light- coloured dogskin Vest; a light cloth Vest ; a silk Hanakerchief ; a white aud green Muffler ; two white calico Shirts ; two sets of Shirt Studs, black on one side aud gilt on the other ; a pair of brown worsted Stockings ; aud £ 4 Os. 9d. in Gold and Silver ; the property of William Summers, labourer. By WILLIAM WILTON, a oollier, who lodged in the house a week, when he absconded with the property : about 27 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, light complexion, grey eyes, light hair, whiskers, and moustache, proportionate build ; dressed in a dark cloth bine striped suit, soft billycock hat, and elastic- side boots ; he is supposed to belong to Durham or Cumberland. Information to be given to Super- intendent Hall, West Riding Constabulary, Pontefract, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 13. Description of a man charged with stealing from the boys' schoolroom at Wrexham Union, on the night of the 4th instant: six Flutes ( recovered). About 22 years of age, short, stout builu, no whiskers or moustache, aDd light complexion ; dressed in an old pilot cloth coat and waistcoat, old blaek trousers, hard round felt hat, all much worn, and boots similar to military, not much worn. Had in his possession a cotton Bag, with a hem aud running string in top, containing Music Books. He was seen ou the 9th inst., between Ruabon and Wrexbam, and is supposed to be an English tramp, making his way ' o Chester Races. Infor- mation to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Bradshaw, Wrexbam, Denbighshire.— Bow- street, May 13; Description of JOHN McDOUGALL, an errand boy, charged with stealing on the 5tli instant, the sum of £ 48 in Cash; and a Cheque for £ 10, the monies of Messrs. John Thorpe & Co., Temple- row, Birmingham : he is about 14 yrs. of age, middle height, dark hair, pale complexion, awkward gait, very weak voice ; dressed when last seen in a drab grey dressed in blue pilot jacket, fustian trousers aDd vest, wears a dark cloth vest under the, fustian one, brown cloth cap with peak, also wears a large silver lever watch, Roman figures, the dial cracked from the centre to figure 11, No. 17022, maker Amberback, Wolverhampton, has a heavy silver ueck- chain, with a lion shitt ing attached, also a gold albert chain, 9- carat, with a small brass foot attached. This man was in Melton in September last, and was then dressed as a railway porter ; he carried. ; i small flag basket with a strap to it. In formation to be given to Superintendent Platts, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire.— Bow- street, May 15. On the evening of the 8th instant, the dead body of a newly born female child was found in a hedge by the side of a footpath near Holy Wells, Ipswich, wrapped in two pieces of silk and an alpaca apron, with brown paper over, and tied with striDg. At an adjourned inquest held on the 14th inst., an epen verdict of ' Found dead' was returned. Information to be given to Head Constable Mason, Police Office, Town Hall, Ipswich, Suffolk.— Bow- street, May 15. Description of a man charged with stealing a suit of Clothes and a silver Albert Guard, on the 13th iustant, from a house at Cambridge, where he had stayed one night, the suit of clothes is recovered, but the guard with a key at the end, with imitation horse's leg and foot, is not: between 36 and 40 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, dark com- plexion, beard, whiskers, and moustache ; dressed in dark trousers and vest, blue serge jacket and a clip, with ear flaps, and a red and black plaid shirt ; stated he was a fitter, and had been employed in India as such. Supposed to be the same man advertised for at Maidstone, Kent, in the Police Gazette of the 4th instant. Information to be given to Chief ( Superintendent Turrall, Borough Police Office, Cambridge.— Bow- street, May 15. Description of a man who gave the name of WILLIAM DUDLEY, address refused, remanded till the 20th instant, at Swaffham, charged with attempting to commit highway robbery on the 12th instant; he stopped two ladies iu a trap, and presented a pistol at them ; he had on a black silk mask : he is about 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fresh complexion, hazel eyes, long dark brown hair, small moustache and whiskers, growing down under the chin, cut mark corner of right eye and on forefinger of left hand; dressed in black frock coat, black cloth overcoat with velvet collar, black cloth vest, grey mixture trousers, billycock hat, and lace- up boots. When appreheuded, on the 13th instant, he bad in his possession a short single- barrel Pistel, loaded and capped, a black dagger- stick, a quantity of powder and caps, and the black silk mask. Information to be given to Superintendent Lambley, Norfolk Police, Swaffham.- Boiv- strett. May 15. Description of JOHN DENNISON, an American, a man of colour, in custody at Selby, oh a charge of larceny : he is 20 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, hazel eyes, dark hair ; dressed in a grey tweed coat and vest, dirty moleskin trousers, and a low cap with peak. Information to be given to Superintendent Ireland, West RidiDg Constabulary, Selby, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, May 15. Description of THOMAS MERRICK, labourer, who is charged writh violently assaulting Police Constable Morgan, iu tho city of Hereford, ou the morning of the 10th instant: about 18 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, brown hair, no beard or whiskers, and freckled face ; dressed in a white slop, cord trousers, and black bowler hat. Information to be given to Head Constable Davies, City Police, Hereford, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Mai/ 15. Description of two tramps in custody at Swindon, and remanded till the 21st instant, charged with larceny from a 1 co . tage at Lyneham : JOHN LYNCH, a native of Waterford, 42 years of age, labourer, 5 feet 9 inches high, brown hair, whiskers, and beard, about two week's growth, of very dirty appearance, a boil mark on right side of body, and two scars On right arm ; dressed in blue monkey jacket, with velvet collar, brown figured cord trousers, grey woollen shirt, with check collar, old elastic- side boots, and black bowler hat. GEORGE PEACH, a labourer, native of Smethwick, Stafford, 18 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, and no whiskers; dressed in old black cloth jacket, dark cloth trousers and vest, blucher boots, white calico shirt, red and white neckerchief, and black billycock jacket, striped waistcoat, dark grey trousers, and black billy- ejek hat. This boy has relatives residing at Musselburgh, ! bat. near Edinburgh, also at Walsall, in Staffordshire.
