Description of three men, charged on warrants with wounding Police Constable Charles Elliott, at Duuchurch, on the night of the 7th instant : CHARLES EMERY, 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, red curly hair, tuft on chin, thick set, wears small ear- rings; dressed in white navvy slop, fustian trousers, aud fur cap ; is a native of Muggerhanger, a member of the Huntingdon- shire Militia, a labourer, and has worked at brickyards. JOSEPH SHAW, 24 years of age, 5 feet 7 or S inches high, dark brown hair and whiskers, prominent teeth iu upper jaw ; dressed in round corduroy jacket, browu slop, corduroy trousers, aud lace up boots; an agricultural Sabourer. HENRY WILSON, 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 iuches high, dark brown hair, and tuft ou chin ; dressed iu round brown cloth jacket, corduroy trousers aud vest, aud dark cloth cap, and of slovenly appearauce ; an agricultural labourer. Rankin, at Shepton Mallet, on the 27th ultimo, a silver English lever Watch, capped aud jewelled, ' J. Rankin, from his mother, 1830,' engraved ou inside case, and ' J. R.' ou outside case. Stolen from the person at Abbotstone races, near Alresford, Hants, on tho 24th instant: a gold hunting Watch, with small glass in the upper cover of the case, engine- turned, white enamel dial, lever escapement, name ' Jas. McCabe, London,' No. 04137, £ 2 reward for recovery ; a double- case silver Watch, maker Compton, Winchester, gold curb Chain, aud two large Seals, one gold with warrior's head engraved on it ; and a gold Geneva Watch, with figures on a pale blue, enamelled rim outside of case, the figures ' 32 ' inside opposite the index 9, No. 45232, marked ' A. Stolen from the person of a gentleman at Baugor steeple chase, Flintshire, on the 17th iustaut, a knitted scarlet silk military Sash. R.'; two silver Salt Spoons, not marked; a pair of silver Sugar Tongs, marked ' R. S. B.' ; a Bilver Cream Jug; a silvtr Fork; two £ 5 Bank Notes; and some Gold. Stolen at Cheltenham on the 21th instant, by means of housebreaking : 1 gold Albert Chain, with lion on seal. 2 sets of gold Studs— one plain, the other snake pattern with round coral stones in centre of each. 3 gold Bings- one a gentleman's, with large white stone, the other a gold Keeper, and the third a fancy dress ring, with small stones at back. 1 gold Scarf Pin, snake pattern. ] bunch of gold Trinkets. 1 pair of long gold Ear- drops. 2 silver Brooches— one with grey stones the other dif- ferent colour. 1 gold plated Necklace, with Lockets attached. 1 do. Bracelet, with green and white stones. 1 silver Knot, belonging to a walking- stick. By two men of the following description : one about 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 iuches high, pale complexion, light moustache; dressed in hard black bowler hat, blue serge coat, bound with braid, browu mixture trousers ; he is supposed lo have his hands cut from climbing a wall when making his escape ; the other is rather shorter, aud drested iii dark clothes. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Day, Cheltenham, Gloucester.— Bow- street, April 27. On the night of the 25th instant, the dwelling house of Mr. John Evans, of Farrington Gurney, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therein : two silver Cups, holding nearly half- pint each, both chased, one a trifle j larger than the other, has a small plain space iu front for name or initials. Information to be given to Superintendent Emson, Somerset Constabulary, Temple Cloud, Bristol.— Bow- street, April 27. On the night of the 19th instant, St. Peter's School, Clifton, was broken and entered and stolen therein : three cloth top Coats, one dark blue, with blue liuiug, black buttons inside of seams, two pockets outside, and one left breast, to fit a youth 15 years of age; another a dark brown with velvet collar, buttons and pockets same as oue above, to fit a youth 12 years of age ; and the other a dark blue with long laps, two outside pockets, and one inside left breast, to fit a youth 1G years of age. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Hunter, North Riding Constabulary Office, Ileworth, York.— Bow- street, April 24. Ou the night of the 18th instant, the dwelling- house of Captain Bidclle, of Long Ham, was brokeu aud entered, and stolen tbereiu : a small silver Knife ; two silver antique Forks ; a silver dessert Spoon, marked ' B. ;' a plated marrow Spoon ; a plated Cruet Stand ; a silver Coin, of the reigu of Queen Anne ; two gold Rings, one horse- shoe pattern, the other a cornelian; a pair of lace- up Boots, which have just j been repaired; aud £ 1 5s. from a cash box. Supposed by two dirt. y looking tramps, bctwteu 30 aud 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high ; dressed in dark clothes. RUTLAND, 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, brown hair, long thin features, and tattooed ou both wrists ; dressed in a white slop, brown cloth vsst, and cord trousers ; has been iD the navy. Supposed to have gone to Liverpool, on his way to America. Information to be giveu to Superinten- dent Bungard, Surrey Constabulary, Chertsey, or to Inspector Gray, Egham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 22. Stolen from a stable at Hanham Court Farm, in the paiish ef Bitton, Gloucestershire, ou the night of the 18th instant : a black cart Mare, 16 hands high, 8 years old, long flowing mane aud tail, very light colour round the mouth and round both eyes, aud white star on the forehead ; also a set of Trace Harness, the property of Mrs. Hester Selman. £ 10 reward will be paid to whoever will give such informa- tion as shall lead to the conviction of the off ender or offenders, and recovery of the mare. Stolen on the night of the 24tli instant, from the dwelling- house of Mr. R. P. Rich, butcher, Market- place, Chippenham, Wilts, the following articles : a silver Mustard Pot, marked ' B. P. Stolen from Thame Market on the 14th ultimo, the pro- perty of C. J. Stolen from a field at Featherstone, Yorkshire, during the night of the 23rd ultimo, a mare Pony iu foal, aged, about lljj bauds high, dark cream colour, and marked with the letter ' D' on left hip, the property of Roland Hill, black- smith. Stolen on the 13th ultimo, from the Kent and Mersey Canals at Mostou, near Sandbach : a brown Mare, 9 years old, 14| hand? high, appears to be in foal. Also a smoky roan horse Pony, aged, about 12 bands high, the property of Joseph Jones, of Burslem, the liquidator of the Traders' Carrying Company ( Limited". Bv THOMAS GREEN, alias SOBETOES, and RICHARD TAYLOR, two boat- men in the Company's employ, who absconded at the time of the robbery. Green is about 20 years of age, 6 feet high, swathy complexion, sand}' hair, and no whiskers ; Taylor is about 26 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, brown hair, and walks lame through some deformity in his hips. They are both natives of Runcorn and are well known on the Duke of Bridgewater's Canal. Information to be given to Inspector Hulme, Constabulary Station, Sandbach, Cheshire, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- st., Mat/ 1. Stolen from a field at Bentley, near Walsall, a light chestnut Horse, aged, 15J hands high, short bang tail, lame in the near fore leg, white stripe down forehead, and short mane. Stolen at Egham on the 7th instant, a grey Pony ( recovered), the property of Mary Ann Godfrey; bv GEO. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Charged on a warrant with embezzlement, ALFRED JAMES MATTHEWS, late of 46, Westmoreland- road, Walworth : he is 27 years of age, 5 feet 5 or C inches high, fresh complexion, light auburu' hair, blue eyes ( occasionally weak or inflamed), small sharp features, large nose, very small whiskers, sauuy moustache, and thiu build; generally wears dark clothes. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, Detective Department, City of London Police, No. 26, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- street, May 1. Stolen from a fowl roost, in the city of Lincoln, on the 24th ultimo : 20 Fowls ( since recovered) ; and ou the 20th ultimo, from a public- house : a dark blue twill ^ utastiiyrCpat, pockets at sides, has been mended under cue arm ; and a pair of cord Trousers. By a tramping groom, who came to the city for the April Fair, and obtained employment to assist in an hotel stable, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, stout build, dark complexion, very dark- looking round his eyes, dark whiskers oil side of face, clean- shaved chin ; dressed in dark grey shabby- looking coat ( or the stolen one), daik vest, cord trousers, old black billycock hat, and black neuktie. Information to be giveu to Chief Superintendent Mansell, Lincoln.— Bow- street, May 1. Absconded from Banbury on the 22nd ultimo, charged with stealing a suit of black cloth Clothes ( recovered), a man, about 24 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, stoutly made, dark hair and whiskers ; dressed iu dark coat aud vest, dark cord troufers, soft billycock hat, strong shoes, with a hole burnt in the side of one ; he is a foundry man travelling from town to town. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Whadcoat, Banbury, Oxon.— Bow- street, April 29. Description of SAMUEL FARRAH, manager and traveller for Mrs. Lance, tea dealer, & c., for whose appre- hension a warrant has been issued on a charge of embezzlement: he is about 48 years of age, 5 feet 7 iuches high, stiff built, grey eyes, dark hair, no beard or whiskers, light moustache, very fresh looking ; dressed when last seen at Hull, on the 24th instant, iu light grey suit, sometimes wears a black coat, black and white plaid trousers, and black stiff felt hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Harper, Great Driffield, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, April 29. Stolen on the 27th instant, from a watchmaker's shop, in Birkenhead, a new gold Geneva horizontal Watch, medium size, gilt dial and dome, engine turned cases, private mark aud selling price in plain figures scratched inside case. By a man of the following description : about 20 years sf age, 5 feet 9 inches high, light built, no whiskers or moustache, small features, long narrow chiu, very light eyes with a vacant expression ; dressed iu dark clothes, shabby genteel. Infor- mation to be given at the Police Office, Town Hall, Birkenhead, Cheshire.— Bow- street, April 29. Absconded from Builth, Breconshire, on the 15th instant, charged with embezzlement : WILLIAM DAVIES LEWIS, Relieving Officer at Builth ; he is about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 7- i inches high, very stout, especially about the cliest aud shoulders, black hair and eyebrows, hair parted in centre, dark eyes, huge dark beard nearly black, and has a scar from a cut coming down in front of one eai ; dressed in hard felt hat, blue ribbed cloth jacket and vest, single breasted and bouud with black ; grey tweed trousers, and thiu elastic- side boots, but has other clothes with him. Supposed to have about £ 120 in his possession at the time he absconded. Wears a gold Albert, no appendages. He was iu Gloucester on the 17th instant drinking. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as shall lead to his apprehen- sion. Description of JOHN JACKSON, commercial traveller, late with the Kirkstall Brewery Company, in the borough ot Leeds, who has absconded, charged ou a warrant with embezzlment : he is 31 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches higb, hair inclined to be red cr sandy, slight whiskers and moustache which are thin, fresh looking, very good teeth which he shows very much, deeply pockpitted, stout built, swaggering gait, wears ou his fingers two rings, one of which is a snake pattern, set with red stones, the eyes diamonds ; dressed in blue worsted coat and vest, velvet collar on coat, dark trousers, silk hat, and carries with him a thick walking 4 POLICE GAZETTE. Absconded from Welches Dam, on the IDth instant, charged with stealing a pair of patent leather Leggings, spring sides, the property of another lodger : THOMAS STORKER, of Swavesy, Cambridge, about 35 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion, brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, the latter turning grey and are not of long growth, and rather round features; dressed iu brown cap, black coat, grey waistcoat, cotton cord trousers with large white patch ou the seat, the stolen Leggings, strong lace- up boots, with pieces cut out of the tops about an inch deep near the ankles, aud blue worsted stockiugs with the toes cut off. He has been in the army. Information to be given to Inspector Mitchell, Police Station, Chatteris, Cambridge.— Bow- street, April 27. During the afternoon of the 22nd instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Murphy, George- street, iu the borough of Hert- ford, was entered and a siuall open face silver lever Watch, with a piece of black cord aud gold Kty attached, maker— T. J. Mercer, No. 9435, aud stolen thereiu. By a man between 20 aud 24 years of age, 5 feet " to 9inches high, full face, little or no whiskers ; dressed in dark clothes aud hat. Information to be given to Head Constable Jarrett, Borough Police, Hertford.— Bow- street, April 27. Absconded OH the 17th instant, from Millman- street, guildford- street, charged with embezzling £ 10: a woman, 50 years of age, 5 feet i inches high, fair complexion and hair, turning grey ; dressed iu light cotton print dress, plaid shawl, aud black bonnet.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, April 24. BROWNING, a baker, charged ou a warrant with embezzlement: about 35 years of age, about 5 feet 8 or S) inches high, light complexion, light brown hair, a few whiskers on chin inclined to be sandy, chin pro- eets, upper lip falls iu as if from loss of teetli, long thin face, light grey eyes, thiu build, splayfooted, aud stoops when walking. Has had a business at No. 7, Lougnor- road, Mile- end- road, London ; he also lived at Bancroft- road, Mile- end- road, Loudon, and probably may be in that neighbourhood, or he may try to get to America. £ 1 reward will be paid for his apprehension. Stolen from the Swan public- house, Stony Stratford, on the morning of the 17th instant : a pair of blucher Boots, four holes in front, brass eyelets, some of which are missing, soles and heels nailed. By a tramping moulder, about 27 yrs. of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, long thin face, high cheek bones, pale complexion, light brown hair, uo whiskers or moustache, anu of military appearance ; dressed in a dark jacket, pockets at sides, dirty fustian trousers, no collar to his shirt, cloth cap without peak, and plaid band round it, and • wearing the stolen boots; he has been traced to Little Brickhill, and is supposed to have there left the main road for London, aud crossed the country. Absconded from Didbrook, near Winchcomb, on the 23th iltimo : THOMAS KITE, charged with abduction of Norah Smith : he is 31 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, fresh complexion, sandy whiskers and beard, no mous- tache ; dressed in a suit of black, respectable appeal auce, aud ' ias been in the Army, tattooed ou both arms, ' V. Ro. T. Ko,' aud flnga and a bracelet round Tight wrist. Norah ! Hmith is 15 years of age, very dark complexion, of gipsy appearance, rather short stature ; dressed in a light blue ' 1 ress; she was traced by train to Worcester on the 27th Iti'mo. ' i • i GEORGE MARRINER, late of 18, Little Moorfields, and Betcliworth House, Nicholson's- road, Addiscombe, a ware- houseman, about 38 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, rather freckled, light brown hair, small bluish- green eyes, full face, short sandy whiskers, speaks with a West Country dialect; generally wears a light suit, but lias no taste for dress ; particularly fond of smoking, has a downcast look when talking, and somewhat the appearance of a German. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- st., April 27. Description of a man going about the country, who obtained Money at Stoke D'Abernon, & c., by preseuting a petition, iu which it stated that his name was ROBERT HARRIS, hawker, belonging to Byfleet, Surrey, and that his horse had died from eating yew ( which is false) : he is from 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fair complexion, no whiskers, and tattooed on back of left hand ; dressed in a light tweed suit, tight- fitting trousers, billycock hat, and black necktie with coloured ends ; has the appear- ance of a stableman. He is most likely accompanied by a tall dark man, dressed in a brown velveteen jacket aud billy- cock hat. A reward of £ 1 will be paid on his apprehension.
