The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known hut not in custody, and a Description of those who are not hnotcn, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. Notice.— It is requested tlint all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may bo made and addressed to MB. C. *#* Whenever it is desired that any person should bo appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any aiticle in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in tho POLICE GAZETTE, may bo addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the morning of the 2? tid ultimo, the dead body of a full developed newly- born male child waa found on a piece of waste ground in Clifton, wrapped in a piece of old coarse red tiannel, with its throat cut ; at the adjourned inquest held on the 31st ultimo, the jury returned a verdict ot ' Wilful Murder' against some person or persons unknown. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, whilst on the platform of the Great Western Railway Station, Bristol, on the 20th ultimo: a gold hunting Watch, f- plate, white enamel face, makers Martin and Bishop, London, No. 7527. £ b reward will be paid on recovery of the watch. Stolen on the 6th instant from the person of Mrs. Eliza- beth Brown, whilst standing on the down platform at Bishopsgate Railway Station : a double- cased gold Watch, No. 323U3, ' High Street, Southampton,' engraved on case, minus glass aud rim. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Hediugton, Police Office, Great Eastern Railway, Bishopsgate Station, London.— Bow- street, April 10. Stolen from tbe person on the evening of the 7th inst., at the Red Lion Inn, in the city of Hereford : a silver lever bunting Watch, name— Myers and Sou, No. 4939, three Seals attached to a ring, one with a blue stone and letter D engraved thereon. By a man who travels the country bell- hanging and as a tinker, carries a long rush basket in which he carries his tools, which he left behind ; about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches bigh, dark brown hair, marked with smallpox, and no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in a black jacket, dirty cord trousers, and black bowler hat. Information to be given to Head Constable Davis, Hereford.— Bow- street, April 10. Two men, Darned PETER WOOD and PATRICK KEEGAN, charged with stealing a gold Alhert Guard, a silver Guard, and a gold dress liiug, from the person, at Page Bank in the Durham Division of the County of Durham, On the 2nd ultimo : WOOD is 19 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, dark complexion, slightly pockpitted, dark eyes and hair, and a miner ; dressed in blue jacket, dark grey trousers and vest, cap, and lace boots. KEEGAN is 19 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, fresh complexion, hazel eyes, dark brown hair, and a miner ; dressed in dark coat and vest, light tweed trousers, aud cap. Information to be given to Superintendent Dunn, County Constabulary Office, Durham, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bovi- strcet, Avril 6. sleeves ; a baby's dark linsey Frock, short sleeves; a baby's dark striped woollen Petticoat; a pair of baby's white Stays, with scarlet flannel Petticoat attached ; a baby's white diaper Pinafore ; 2] yards of light brown Linsey ; seven pieces of new brown Calico, each about 1 yard long; a quantity of Silk, brown and white stripe, which has been a gored dress ; two new bath Towels, honeycomb pattern, f yard long, red stripe across each end, and fringe; two baby's new Night- gowns, lace round top; a scarlet and black flowered Table- cloth, has a narrow scarlet border, and a stain about 6 inches across about the centre ; a grey waterproof Cloak, to fit a girl about 15 years of age ; a black shawl, two sides trimmed with black velvet and sable fur, and edged with scarlet; about 10s. in Silver and about 10a. in Copper Money ; aud part of a box of Cigars. Information to be given to Inspector Peberdy, Police Station, Loughborough, Leicestershire.— Bow- street, April 6. The cottage of Mary Taylor, at Aldbourae, Wilts, was entered on the afternoon of 28th ultimo, and the following property stolen: \ lb. Cheese, i lb. Sugar, | lb. Bacon, cooked, and 2 lbs. Bread. Supposed by two men going in the direction of Swindon, one about 5 feet 10 inches bigh, dark hair, cleau face; dressed in dark jacket and trousers, and round hard hat. The other, 5 feet 5 incnes high, and stout; dressed in dark brown coat with velvet collar, light brown trousers, hard round hat, dark hair aud moustache, both carried a stick each, one of which was left behind, answering the description of one seen with the men. Al » o on the 30th ultimo the cottage of Mary Sherman, of Latton, near Cricklade, Wilts, was broken and entered. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Stretteu, Marlborough, Superintendent North, Swindon, or to Superin- tendent Woodman, Malmsbury, Wilts.— Bow- street, April 6. On the 1st instant, the house of David Mills, in the parish of Old Radnor, was broken into by two tramps, and the following Property stolen therein : an old- fashioned double- cased silver Watch, steel curb Chain attacned ; plaid cotton Shirt; a pair of Trousers ; two pairs of lace- up Boots, one pair nearly new ; aud a drab Overcoat, which have since been recovered. Description : one about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark bushy whiskers all round the chin, cropped, and supposed to be a tailor ; dressed in a dark coat, drab trousers, aud black cap. The other about 19 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches bigh ; dressed in dark clothes and bowler hat. They are supposed to be wearing the stolen boots, as their old ones were left behind. They were traced to within 3 miles of Ross, Herefordshire, and are supposed to have gone either through Forest of Dean or Gloucester. Information to be given tw the Chief Con- stable, Radnorshire Constabulary, Penybont, or to Police Constable Weale, New Radnor.— Bow- street, April 6. The man advertised in the Police Gazette of the 30th ultimo, charged with housebreaking on the Long Mountain, near Buttington, was traced to and apprehended at Middle, Shropshire, by P. C. Owen Lewis, and the whole of the stolen Clothes, & c., recovered ; he is committed for trial at tbe Mid- summer Sessions : his name is JAMES PLANT, labourer, a native of Hinstock, near Newport, Shropshire, 50 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh face, dark hair, brown eyes, dark sand)' whiskers tinged with grey, cupping marks on right side, and a scar on right side of forehead ; lie has beeu twice convicted of felony in Montgomeryshire, more than 20 years ago. Information to be given to Superintendent Strefford, Welshpool, Montgomeryshire.— Bm- st'eet, April 2. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. During the night of the 31st ultimo, the house of Mr. John Abbey, the Ram Inn, Loughborough, was broken into and the following property Btolen therein : a large square grey shawl with green border ; a black cloth jacket, trimmed with dark sealskin, to fit a child 3 years of age; a baby's Pelisse, light colour, Indian crape, trimmt d with black velvet; a grey alpaca child's Frock, trimmed with three rows of black velvet about half an inch wide round skirt; a green plaid cloth child's Frock, with one tuck ; a light brown linsey Skirt, child's size ; a pair of child's scarlet flannel Stays, and Petticoat attached; a dark grey linsey Pinafore with long HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a stable at Sherborne, near Northleach, on the night of the 6th inst.: a light brown horse Donkey, white nose, about 8 years old. in good condition, was seen being led along the road in the direction of Cheltenham, on the morn- ing of the 7th instant, by a man, about 60 years of age ; dressed in a black cap with peak, velveteen jacket, cord trousers, he was lame, and walking with a stick. Stolen on the night of the 29th, or following morning, from Belmont Hall, Durham : a black entire pit Pony, 9 hands 3 inches high, blind of the far eye, piece of skin ai; d hair off near shoulder, rather lame on near hind leg, saddle mark on back, aged, the property of the Broomside Coal Company. Information to be given to Superintendent DUBU, County Constabulary, Durham.— Bono- street, April 6. Found in a field at Kineton, about the 17th ultimo, supposed to have been itolen : a dark brown Cart Horse, aged, about 15 hands high, hair rubbed off rump, near fore- shoe off, and in fair condition. Information to be given to Inspector Lapworth, Police Station, Kineton, Warwickshire. — Bow- street, April C. Stolen from a field at Sheldon, near Birmingham, on the night of the 29th or morning of the 30th ultimo : a grey nag Mare, rising 6 years old, 14 hands 2 inches high, and has been lately blistered. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Gallaway, Police Station, Aston, near Birmingham, or to Inspector Welch, Police Station, Solihull, Warwick- shire.— Bow- street, April 6. 26th ultimo, as chamber- maid, and left on the 28th ultimo, stealing a heavy gold Chain, sea- weed pattern, and appen- dages ; a gold Locket, engraved case, containing two photo- graphs of a fair lady and dark gentleman ; a gold Seal, with amber stone, and small chain attached, a gold Key, the shape of a corkscrew, a Fish, a Shoe, with red lining, a Cannon, with moveable wheels, and a common watch Key : she is 35 years of age, light complexion, light brown hair, middle height, respectable appearance ; dresses in black clothing. She was seen at 196, High Holborn, on the morning of the 30th ultimo, and is supposed to be residing in the neighbour- hood of Howell- street, Hall Park, Paddingtou. Information to be giveD to Superintendent White, Hants Constabulary, Ringwood, who holds a warrant for her apprehension.— Bow- street, April 10. Absconded from Tpswich on the 4th instant, charged on a warrant with stealing £ 8 in Money, the property ot Wm. Crowe, his father : WILLIAM CROWE, 16 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, light brown hair, dark grey eyes, fresh complexion, has a wart on back of neck and between shoulders, also a scar on right breast. Was convicted on the 10th February, 1873, of a similar offence and sentenced to two months imprisonment with hard labour. Information to be given to Head Constable Mason, Police Office, Town Hall, Ipswich, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 1C. Absconded from Guildford, Surrey, on the 31st ultimo, charged with embezzlement: CLEMENT MOOBE SPUR- GEON, clerk, about 40 years of age, about 5 feet 7 ins. high, fair complexion, light brown hair and whiskers, full face, aud rather stout; dressed in a suit ot black cloth clothes, with brown overcoat, high black bat, and had a small black bag. Supposed a native of Colchester, and is well known iu the county of Essex ; waa employed about 3 years since in Chelmsford. Information to be given to be Supertinendent Law, Borough Police, Guildford, Surrev, who holds a wanant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 10. Stolen on the morning of the 29th ultimo, from a barn at Calgaith, near Penrith, Cumberland : one white linen Jacket, man's size, two pockets outside, and one ditto inside ; aud one wooden two- foot Rule. By a navvy about 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, whiskers and hair of a red- dish colour, aud stout figure; dressed in dirty moleskin trousers, white slop, white billycock hat, and clogs. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Fowler, Penrith, or at the County Chief Constables' Office, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, April 8. Description of FRANK RAWLINGS, charged with stealing Money from a cottage at Wotton Underwood, on the 4th instant: 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark curly hair, fair complexion, no whiskers ; respectably dressed in a suit of dark or black cloth, black billycock hat, black necktie, and elastic- side boots. Information to be given to Inspector Chaplin, Police Station, Brill, Bucks, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— bow- street, April 8. Absconded from Llanidloes, on the 3rd instant, charged on a wanant with larceny : a woman calling herself ELLEN HUGHES, alias LLOYD, a native of Dolgelley, about 60 years of age, middle height, rather stout built, full fresh face, squints, speaks with a Welch accent, aud turns her face slightly on one side ; supposed to be dressed in a black straw hat, old grey winsey dress, grey winsey jacket, long black aproD, lace- up boots, and white woollen stockings. She is well known in Montgomeryshire, Aberdovey, Towyn, Dol- gelley, Bala, Llandrillo. Llanrhayadr, Corweu, and in most parts of North Wales, Chester, and Liverpool. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Newtown, or to Sergeant Owen, Police Station, Llanidloes, Montgomery- shire.— Bow- street, A pril 8. Absconded on the 19th ultimo, charged with embezzle- ment: CHARLES BAKER, 23 years of age, 5 feet 2 ins. high, fresh complexion, inclined to blotchy, hair parted iu the centre, aud black whiskers ; Pressed in dark pepper- and- salt jacket, striped vest, dark trousers, laced boots, and rouud felt hat. Supposed to have gone to Mitcheldever, Hants.— Metropolitan Police, T Division, April 8. Description of JOHN MOSES, alias GINGER MOSES, charged with another man now in custody at Htworth, Yorkshire, with stealing half a ton of Coals on the night of the 4th iuBtant, at Marygate : he is a boatman, aboat 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, fresh com- plexion, rather rouud face, no whiskers, red hair cut short, aud blind of oue eye, supposed left ; dressed when last seen in a gr » y coat, blue cloth trousers, and brown hairy cap; he absco- ided on the 5th instant, and is supposed to have gone to either Hull or Leeds, at which places he is supposed to be well- known. EMANUEL DEFTY, charged with stealing £ 5 in Money ; a quantity of Liuen; aud other wearing Apparel, of the value of A' 12, from the house of Thomas Wallace, of Mount Pleasant, near Tudhoe, in the county of Durham : he is 29 yean of age, 5 feet 7 indies high, dark brown hair and eyes, daik complexion, small black whiskers and moustache, stout tigurt, round shoulders ; dressed iD blue pilot jacket, and dark trousers: he is accompanied by MARGARET WALLACE, wife of the man who has been robbed : she is LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Description of SARAH SILLENCE, who entered the , service of Mrs, Bill, Belle Yue Hotel, Bournemouth, on the 30 years of age, 6 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion, red 4 POLICE GAZETTE. April 112. cheeks, dark brown hair, enceinte ; dressed in slate- coloured dress, paislev or groy shawl, with black and white stripes round it, felt hat, trimmed with rail flower, and bit of greeu velvet. Information to be given to Superintendent Dunn, Constabulary Office, Durham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 6. Description of LOUIS LORANT who is charged with embezzlement: about 28 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, light hair, whiskers, and moustache, aud cut on one wrist ; dressed respectably. Information to be given to Chief Con- stable Pal in. Town Hall, Manchester.— Bow- street, April 6. Stolen by means of housebreaking iu the borough of New Radnor, on the 1st instant : an cld- fashioned double- cased silver Watch, with steel curb Chain attached ; and a small Seal, with the word ' Emma' engraved thereon ; a pair of striped Trousers ; a plaid calico Shirt ; two pairs of lace- up Boots, one pair nearly new ; and a drab Overcoat, which has since been recovered. By two tramps of the following description : one about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, with dark bushy whiskers all round the chin ; dressed in a dark coat, drab trousers, and black cap ; supposed to_ be a tailor. The other about 19 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 ins. high ; dressed in dark clothes, aud drrk felt hat; they are supposed to be wearing the stolen boots, as their old ones were left behind ; they were traced within 3 rnilea of Ross, and were then supposed to be making their way to the Forest oi Dean, or Gloucester. Absconded fram Upholland, near Wigan, on the 23rd nit., charged with stealing £ 6 6s. 4d., the property of his master, against whom a warrant has been issued : JOHN ROSE, a farm labourer, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, long sandy hair, tuft of hair on chin, and fawn- freckled face ; dressed when he left in a new long cord monkey jacket, two pockets outside and one inside left breast, cord vest and trousers much worn, blucher boot cut open at the instep, red and black plaid scarf, and black soft billycock hat, stitched a little at each side to keep them up ; he speaks very quick, and closes his eyes after finishing a sentence for a short time ; a native of Hollins Green, near Warrington. Description of JAMES PAYNE, charged with stealing a ton of Coals, the property of his master Samuel North, at Brighton, on the 2nth ultimo : about 30 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and whiskers, the whiskers are cut off the sides of face but are growing under the chin, full round face, and is a labourer ; since leaving Brighton he has been to work at a brickfield near Worthing, but left there on the 1st instant. Information to be given to Chief Constable White, Town Hall, Brighton, Sussex.— Bow- street, April 6. Description ef ARTHUR LATHAM, collier, late of Dukinfield, charged with stealing £ 2 10s. on the 31st March, the Monies of Squire Knowles, a fellow lodger: he is a native of Liverpool, where his father, a ship carpenter, is now living, at No. 14 Court, Wharfield- street, and an aunt at No. 4, Wharfield- street ; he was sent from Liverpool to the School Farm Reformatory at Newton- le- Willows for 5 years, and was let out on licence two years ago to Mr. Sykes, bleacher, at Well Bridge, Dukinfield, but his time being ex- pired, about three months since he left Sykes and went into the coalpit, he has a younger brother now serving time at the above- named school : he is 21 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, fresh complexion, black hair ; dressed in black cloth shooting jacket, vest and trousers, all far worn, hard black billycock hat, fancy clogs, with brass hooks up front, and blue and white striped cotton shirt. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Arrowsmith, Constabulary Station, Hyde, Cheshire, or to Sergeant Leah, Constabulary Station, Dukin field, Cheshire.— bow- street, April 6. Stolen from a dwelling- house in Crewe, on the 1st inst., two black and itd plaid woollen Shirts ; a gold Brooch, in the shape of a heart ; an oval- shaped gold Brooch; a silver watch Chain ; and a pair of women's elastic- side Boots, kid tops. By a man who had obtained lodgings at the house, and stated that lie was an engine- driver in the employ of the London and North Western Railway Company ; he is about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 4 or & inches high, dark com- plexion, dark bushy whiskers aud moustache ; dressed in a blue woollen slop, dark trousers, cloth cap, aud lace- up boots. Information to be given t" Superintendent Laxton, Nant- wich, or to Inspector Morris, Police Station, Crewe, Cheshire. — Bow- street, April 0. Description of a mau charged with stealing three gold Rings, the property of Lieutenant Cunningham, 103rd Bombay Fusiliers, now stationed at Newport, Monmouth- shire, on the 12th ultimo : 20 years cf age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, and has a cast in one or both eyes; dressed in a grey tweed suit ( which he is also charged with stealing), black hard bowler bat, and military boots. He is a deserter from the above regiment, and was last heard of at Portsmouth, on the landing of the troops from the Gold Coast ; he is supposed to be a deserter from the Hussars, and is a native of Clerkenwell, London, ill reward will be paid by Lieutenant Cunningham for his apprehension. Description of two men, who were on the 2nd instant committed for trial at the Worcester Summer Assizes on st chaige of burglary at Hanley Grange : JOHN GALLIGAN, alias GREEN, & GOLAHAR, stated first he came from Dublin, but afterwards from New York and that he had been in this country five years, about 55- years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, grey hair, nearly white, cut short, whiskers and beard recently shaved off, full grey- eyes, full face, fresh complexion, stout make ; dressed in an old brown jacket, pockets outside, black trousers, white twilled waistcoat, narrow violet necktie, and lace- up boots much worn; states he is a french polisher, and can work at the Durnisliing trade, sometimes professes to be a quack dark complexion, hazel eyes, dark whiskers aud moustache; dressed in dark clothes and low felt hat.
