Whenever it is desired that any person should bo appre- hended, and the Same is given, it is indispensably neccssary that an'Information should bo made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of tho O Hence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any aiticlo in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in tho POLICE GAZETTE, may bo addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Stall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. Durham ( with others now in custody) : he is 22 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, blue eyes, dark hair, brown mole on right side of neck, second finger of left hand broken and crooked at the end, slight impediment in speech, and a swelling on his neck when last seen in prison. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Dunn, Durham County Constabulary, Durham, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, February 20. INFORMATIONS. HURDEB AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. The man COOK, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 12th ultimo, charged with others with a murderous assault on the gamekeepers at Haywood, near Hereford, is still at large, and is supposed in the works on the borders of Mon- mouthshire, Breconshire, and Glamorganshire. A reward of £ 50 will be paid on his apprehension, on application to Superintendent Wilson,. Hereford.— Bow- street, Feb. ' 20. Description of a man who gave the name of GEORGE WILLIAMS, of Hertford, no fixed address, charged with cutting and wounding with intent to murder : he is a native of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, 28 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, black complexion, hair, and eyes, lost pari, of fingers on both hands, ifscar ou forehead, cut on left cheek, aud very large lips. A photograph can be had on application to Head Constable Jarrett, Borough Police, Hertford.— Bow- street. February 18. Absconded from the borough of Middlesbrough, on the 9th instant, charged with the mauslaugter of Fergus Marron, JOHN RAGAN, a native of the county of Leitrim, but resided a number of years in Scotland, 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, hazel eyes, dark hair ( generally cut short), little or no whiskers, dark moustache, fresh looking, full face, and has a scar on left cheek; dressed generally iu a dark coat, moleskiu trousers ( sometimes yellow cord), aud a cap, which he wears at one side ; luis worked iu the ironworks and amongst bricklayers. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, who holds a coroner's warrant for his apprehension, and will pay all expenses.— Bow- street, February 13. About 12 o'clock on the night of the 31st ultimo, Police Constable J. P. Darby was violently assaulted, whilst in the execution of his duty, at St. James' End, near Northampton, whereby his life is endangered. By WILLIAM MILLER, a native of Duston, near Northampton, 21 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, rather stout build, round features, sallow com- plexion, light brown hair, no whiskers or moustache, has a few marks on both cheeks, apparently pock marks, by trade a ehoe rivetter; dressed when last seen in light mottled trousers, with narrow stripe, waistcoat of same material, short black cloth coat, low- crowned felt hat, and sometimes wears a white muffler. A reward of £ 5 will be paid to any person who will give such information as will lead to his apprehension. A, warrant has been issued for his apprehen- sion. Information to be given to Superintendent Lewis, Poole, Wellingborough, or to Inspector Williamson, Couuty Police Station, Angel- street, Northampton. — Brno- street, February 11. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. On the night of the 18th iustant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Banes, chemist, High- street, boiough of Marlborough, was entered by means of raising the sash window at the back of the house, and stolen therein ; two old- fashioned silver Tea Spoons, one supposed marked ' M. B.', the other ' A. B.;' a pair of riveted watertight shooting Boots, six or seven brass eyelet- boles, three black hooks at the top, and toe- capped ; a man's blue- black Overcoat, rather worn, very large black horn buttons, pockets outside, whole back, lined with green and black plaid ; and a white cashmere Neckscarf. Sup- posed by a tramp, who was seen loitering about the house duriug the day, and offering files for sale, from 40 to 45 years of age, about 5 feet 7 iuches high, very round shouldered, and dressed iu dark clothes. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Stretton, Marlborough, Wilts.— Bow- street, February 20. The premises of Mr. G. George,' Coach and Horses' inn, Easton- street, Wycombe, having been forcibly entered on the nioruing of the 14th instaut, aud Property stolen therein, consistiug of a large quantity of Cigars, Champagne, Money, a red and white wool Antimacassar, The High aud West Wycombe Licensed Victuallers Association, hereby offer £ b reward to any person or persons giving information as shall lead to the apprehension aud conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Davis, Borough Police, Church- square, High Wycombe, Bucks.— Bow- street, February 18. Between 11 p. m. on the Gth, and G a. m. on the 7th inst., the dwelling- house of Edward Cunliff, Esq,, of Marden Asb, High Ongar, was burglariously broken and entered, aud the following property stoleu therein : a gold Ring, with grey- hound engraved thereon ; a horse's Hoof ( an Inkstand), mounted in silver ; two gold breast Pius, one holding red coral, the other a twisted pattern ; a set of gold Studs, with twisted gold pattern, resembling breast pin as above ; aud a plated pocket drinking Flask. A man answering the following description is suspected of having committed the robbery : about 47 to 48 years of age, 5 feet to 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion, black or dark curly hair, mixed with white hairs, walks pigeon- toed, or feet inclined inwards, has the appearauce of being a discharged gentleman's servant. A rewind of .£ 10 will be given for such information as will lead to the recovery of the articles, aud conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Simpson, Epping, or to Inspector Robinson, Police Station, Chipping Ongar, Estex.— Bow- street, February 11. Stolen by means of housebreaking, during the night of the 5th instant, from the dwelling- house of Mr. John Baines, chemist, Corsham, Wilts : a pair of silver Sugar Tongs, a large silver Gravy Spoon, eight large silver Tea Spoons, two large silver Dessert Spoons, and two Lrge silver Tops of Cruet Bottles, some marked ' J. M. B,' and others ' J. G.' Information to be giveu to Superintendent, Wiltshire, Police Station, Chippenham, Wilts.— Bow- street, February 9. dark chestnut Pony, about 12 hands high, with hog mane and short tail, and goes a little lame in the hind quarters ; the property of Rowland Hunt, Esq. Information to be given to Superintendent Gough, Oswestry, Salop.— Bow- street, February 9. Stolen from a field at Little Malvern, on the night of the 2nd instant : fifteen fat Sheep, twelve Wethers, and three Ewes ; the Wethers are marked ' G. H.' in pitch on the rump, and the Ewes similarly marked on the side ; some of them have ruddle marks ou back between the shoulders ; they are all of the Shropshire breed with cfark faces, and' the property of Mrs. Caroline Higgins. £ 5 reward will be paid by the owner upon the apprehension and conviction of the offender pr offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Checketts. Police Office, Upton- on- severn, or to Acting In- spector Turner, Great Malvern, Worcestershire.— Bom- street, February 9. Stolen from Derby on the 29th ultimo : a black Mare, about 15 hands high, 7 years old, has recently been clipped, very fine coat, in good condition, bang tail, a callous lump on near shoulder, caused by the collar, value 45 guineas ; a set of silver- mounted Harness, very old collar; a plain green Whitechapel Cart, plain body, has an iron plate along inside of body, where it had bee « broken, green rep cushions, leather apron, maker's name ' Wells and Poole, Derby,' on wheel cap ; a browu Rng ; and a Whip. By a man about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fresh complexion, large bushy whiskers and moustache, rather inclined to be sandy; diessed in dark clothes, light brown overcoat, claret- coloured scarf with hoop, high silk hat, very thin boots, wears a thin gold wntch guard, single link, and a ring on finger ; is of gentlemanly appearance, and had with him a brown paper parcel and umbrella. £ b reward will be paid for his apprehensiou and recovery of the property, by the owner, Mr. Thomas Wright, cab proprietor, Derby. Description of a man who passed a false Cheque to Mr. Robert Chipperfield, chemist, of Oxford- street, Southampton, for £ b 5s., on the 14th instant; he produced a Latin pres- cription with the name ' A. C. Ward, Capt. Royal Engi- neers,' on it: he is 29 years of age, but looks older, 5 feet 7 inches high, sallow complexion, brown hair, no beard or whiskers, light brown moustache ; dressed iu dark overcoat, slate- coloured trousers, and brown round felt hat; he carried a new black leather Bag; he was advertised in the Police Gazette of the 22ud March, 1872, charged with forgery. McDONALD, charged with highway robbery at Brandon, in the county of HORSE A I'D CATTLE STEALING Stolen from a field in the borough of Middlesborough, on the night of th ® 12th instant: a dark brown half- bred saddle Mare, about 9 years old, 14i bauds high, has two white hind fetlocks, a white star on forehead, several grey hairs on back from saddle mark, a mole on near shoulder, rough coat, and iu good condition. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggersan, Middlesborough, Yorkshire.—. Bom- street, February 20. Stoleu from a stable at Walkington, during the night of the loth instant : an aged black nag Pony, newlv clipped, about 13 hands high, square tail, and has a mark on uear side, just below the back, caused by the kick of a horse. Information to be given to Deputy Chief constable Naylor. East Riding Constabulary, Beverley.— Bow- street, Fkb. 20. Stolen from a field at Settrington, on the 5th instant: a grey Donkey, aged,: entire, iu good condition, has a small piece of hair oil' the rump. Information to be given to Superintendent Long, East Riding Constabulary, Norton, Malton, York.— Bow- street February 13. Stolen from Bath on the 2ud instant : a grey Horse, 15 hands high, and chipped knees ; a set of black Harness, with plated mountings ; a Whitechapel Cart, varnished oak, with ' Swaffield, Bath,' on the caps of wheels. The Horse aud Cart were hired for a drive by WALTER GUNTER, for- merly a timekeeper at a Steam Coal Works in Pontypridd, is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fair com- plexion, little whiskers, no fingers on left haud, and speaks with a Welsh accent. Information to be given to Head Constable Muttlebury, Police Office, Bath. — Bow- street, February 9. Stolen from Boreatton Park, on the 2< Uh ultimo; a very LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded on the 13th iustant, frcm Ginnett's Circus, Hastings, stealing £ 25, the moueys of F. Ginnett, his master : RICHARD ALDEN, stud groom, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 11 iuches high, stout make, fair complexion, no whiskers or beard ; diessed in a brown coat and billycock hat ; has the appearance of a stableman, and is likely to apply for employment in a travelling circus. Information to be given to Superintendent Glenister, Hastings, Sussex.— Bow- street, February 20. Stolen from a dwelling- house in the parish of New Fulford, ou the night of the 17th instant : a German silver Geneva Watch, black dial, white figures, ' Railway Time- keeper' printed on the face, a white metal Guard, with two Keys, attached. By a man about 23 years of age, 5 faet 7 or 8 inches high, light hair cut short, light moustache, no whiskers, has lost some upper teeth, scar on right ear, and thin face; dressed in black shooting coat ( material like Russell cord), black vest, light cord or fustian trousers, tight iu legs, wears a strap round waist, no braces, black raddy hat, and had ou a militia shirt, which had been slit down front aud sewn up again ; he is supposed to be £> native of London. Information to be given to Inspector Gibson, East Riding Constabulary, Escrick.— Bmo- street, February 20. Absconded from Stalbridge, Dorset, on the 5th instant charged with embezzling £ i 15s., belongiog to John Snow, by whom he was employed as foreman in a coal yard at Stalbridge : GEORGE JEANS, 29 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, sallow complexion, brown hair, small brown whiskers, aud slightly round shouldered ; dressed wheu he absconded in a new suit of grey mixture cloth, low crown black hat, and had with him a small carpet- bag. A warrant has been issued for his appreheusion. luformatiou to bo giveu to Superintendent Lavender, Sturminster- Newton, Dorset.— Boio- street, February 18, Stolen from Eaton Wick, about the end of January last: an old double- barrel Guu ( since recovered). By a man, 40 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, pale complexion, roniid shouldered, high cheek boues, brown hair, moustache, whiskers, and beard ; dressed in fustian or drab coat, dirty slop under, cord trousers, and black billycock hat. Infor- mation to be giver to Inspector Pearman, Eton College, Bucks.— Bow- street, February 16. Absconded from the borough of Ipawicb, on the 10th instaut, charged - with embezzling the sum of £ 25 in Money, the property of Edward Sewell, cheese mercliaut, his employer: JONATHAN CHARLES CATTERMULL, a uative of Suffolk, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, whiskers, slight dark moustache, and slender build ; dressed in a blue monkey jacket, brown cloth trousers, and high silk hat. Information to be given to Head Constable Mason, Police Office, Town hall, Ipswich, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 16. Stolen ou the morning of tne 9th instant, from the White Horse public- house, West- street, Leominster: a Cash Box, containing 6 Sovereigns, and £ 2 in Silver, and a number of Receipts. By a man aud woman who had slept in the house the two, previous nights. The woman is about 23 years of age, very fair complexion, light sandy hair ; dressed in white bonnet trimmed with brown ribbon, yellow or light brown dress with pannier, trimmed all round with brown fringe, one tlouuce round bottom, dark brown shawl with light border; she wore gold ear droppers, wedding ring aud keeper. They had with them three Bundles and a Basket, and took tickute at Woferton Station to Stourbridge; it is supposed they went ou to Kidderminster. Information to be given to Superintendent Johnson, Leominster, Herefordshire. — Bow- stret, February 13. Absconded on the 6th iustant, charged with embezzling several ,- u « is of niouey, belonging to Frank Mant, by whom he was employed as a milkman : WILLIAM BIRCH, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, thin, fresh complexion, little light whiskers, squints or has a cast in one eye, ' ouud shouldered, turns his toes out, walks as if he had teu. ier feet, very awkward looking.; dressed in browu felt hat, aud old cord trousers, ha 1 with him a loug white round frock and speckled jacket ; has talked a great deal of going to America, a letter in his hand writing was posted at Newport, Isle of Wight, on the 8th instant ; he is likely to try for employ- ment to attend cattle, or as milkman. Information to be giveu to Head Constable Pratt, City Police, Chichester, Sussex, who holds a warraiit for his apprehension.— Low- street, February 13. Stolen in Cambridge on the 31st ultimo : a large coral Ball, with gold httiuge, to hang from a ladies bracelet. £ b reward will be paid on the apprehension of the offender <> r offenders, aud recovery of the property on application to Head Constable Turrall, Cambridge.— Bcno- street, Feb. 13. Description of FRANCIS WHEELER, a carpenter, charged with stealiug, on the 7th instant, from the dwelliug- house of James Frankland, South Stockton, an old silver verge Watch, a gold albert Chain, a long Locket attached ( red stooe one side, and gold the other), aud a sealskin Cap ( a little worn, lined with dark silk) : he is 21 years of age, single. 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, stoutish, fair complexion, aud daik brown hair; dressed iu a dark shootiug coat, imitation sealskin vest, white moleskin cord trousers, low thin shoes, aud sealskin cap. Was traced by rail to Leeds, and from Leeds to Bradford. Supposed to have gone to Bangley Low Moor or neighbourhood. Information to be given to Superintendent Simpson, North Riding Constabu- lary Office, South Stockton- on- Tees.— Bow- street, February 11. Stoien from a dwelling- house in Middlesborough, on the 7th instant: a silver Geneva Watch, No. 3092, with gold figures, maker J. W. Benson ; aud about £ 14 in Sovereigns. By a rail carrier or labourer at irou works on railways, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion, broad features, black bair aDd whiskers, no moustache, walks erect, and is a native of London ; dressed in a blue pilot cloth coat, bound with black braid, dark grey striped trousers aud vest, black and white plaid shirt, black body hat, black and white plaid scarf, and lace- up boots. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Middlesborough- on- Tees.— Bow- street, feb'vtarj/ 11. Absconded on the 3rd instant, from Welshpool, charged with stealing a pair of Pliers, Nippers, File, Screw Drivers, and other Articles, the property of Mr. J. Evans, watch- maker : JAMES MERTON, a tramping clock and watch- maker. ab<< at 35 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 iuches high, fair complexion, light browu hair, large brown whiskers and moustache; dressed iu browu monkey jacket, dark vest, ribbed cloth trousers, plaid scarf, and hard round top hat, all much worn ; walks very erect, said he was a native of Birmingham, and was traced to Wellington, Salop, on the 4th instant. Was accompanied by a female, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, fair com- plexion, and brown hair; dressed in a blue waterproof cloak, aud blue bonnet, with a red flower. He has been convicted at Nottingham, Wisbeach, and other places in the name of JOHN GREEN, alias GEORGE DUFFY, ( his real name), alias ROSE, alias PETER WALLEY, alias THOMAS SAMPSON. A person calling himself Williams's brother- in- law, who gave the name of Bartholomew Creed, of Brighton, ( supposed fictitious), a hawker of woollen clothes, has applied to visit the prisoner ill gaol, and gives instructions for his defence. Photographs have been taken of the prisoner uuder consider- able difficulties, copies of which will be forwarded for identification, on application to R. E. Roberts, Governor, County Prison, Bedford.— Bow- street, February 20. Remanded at Horsham until the 25th instant, charged with larceny and fraud at Horsham, on the 18th instaut : SARAH MARIA and MARY BLACKITT, alias BAXTER, alias BROWNE, Sutton Coldfield ( name supposed fictitious); one is 60 years of age, short, thin pale face, aud speaks with a Scotch or Irish accent; dressed in shabby black, states she is a widow, and wears a widow's cap.
