INFORMATIONS ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person at Shrewsbury, on the 3rd inst. : a plain silver lever Watch, No. 76945, maker Robert Weare, Birkenhead. Information to be given to Head Con- stable Davies, Shrewsbury.— Bow- street, February 6. Stolen from the person of a gentleman at Bristol, on the evening of the 31st ultimo : a gold lever Watch, maker Dent. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Handcock, Police Office, Bristol.— Bow- street, February 4. Stolen between the 25th and 26th instant, from the person, at Brancepeth, Durham : a silver lever Watch, silver dial, No. 1589, maker Burnett, Durham, value £ i. Also stolen, on the 26th January, 1874, from the person, at Cross- gate, Durham : a silver lever Watch, No. 1008, maker Wake- held, Willington, white dial, and seconds, gold hands, and engine- turned cases. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Dunn, County Constabulary Office, Durham.— Bow- street, January 30. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the 31st ultimo, the dead body of a, newly- born male Child, mutilated, aud partially burnt, was found concealed in a rabbit- hole iu a small coppice at Stanbrook, in the parish of Powick, near Worcester, close to a lane leading from the Upton- road to kent's Green ; the remains were wrapped in two sheets of the ' Alliance News' of the 17th January, 1874, with an outer wrapper of brown paper, and secured with a piece of black braid. At an inquest held before W. S. P. Hughes, Esq , coroner, on the 4th instant, a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' was returned by the jury against some person or persons unknown. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Phillips, County Police Office, Worcester.— Bow- street, February 6. On the afternoon of the 26th instant, the dead body of a newly born female child was found in the river Skerne, at Darlington : the body which was wrapped in a piece of old black moreen, had apparently been only a short time in the water. At the coroners inguest a verdict of wilful murder was returned against some person or persons unknown. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Rogers, Police Office, Darlington, Durham.— Bovi- street, January 30. Absconded from Abertillery, on or about the 10th Nov. last, charged on a warrant with manslaughter: THOMAS WEEKS, alias DUMMEY, a collier, and a native of High Littleton, Somersetshire, 24 or 25 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches or 6 feet high, stout made, sallow com- plexion, dark brown hair, and small whiskers, is a little round shouldered, and slightly pitted with small pox; dressed when he left iu a velvet jacket, and supposed velvet vest, cord trousers, black cloth cap with peak, and string lace- up boots; he is very fond of poaching, and was couvicted for that offence, when working iu some part of Yorkshire, some four or five months ago. GEORGE PARRY, a collier, a native of Sions- place, Somersetshire, 23 or 21 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, slight made, pale thin face, light hair, cut short, very small whiskers, supposed slightly pitted with small pox, and is of smart and active appearance ; dressed when fce left in a dark jacket and vest, cord trourers, turned up at the bottom, and a black cloth cap with a tassel on the top ; he is very fond of poaching, aud was convicted for that offence with Weeks. They are great companions, aud will most likely be found together, aud are supposed to have made their way to some part of Yorkshire or Scotland. They have a bull dog with them, light colour, with a few grey spots ou him, named 4 Wallace.' Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Abergavenny, or to Superintendent Fowler, Tredegar Iron Works, Monmouthshire, who holds the warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- street, January 23. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. Description of a youth suspected of setting fire to an outbuilding at Feather Hone, Bilsdale, near Helmsley, North Riding of Yorkshire, iu the occupation of Mr. John Richard- son, farmer, on the 20th ultimo, whereby a stable aud cow- house were entirely destroyed, and three beasts burned to death : supposed Irish, 14 or 15 years of age, about 5 feet high, fresh complexion, sun freckled, light ginger hair, widish mouth, a good set ef teeth, rather prominent, shows them when talking ; stated that he was deserted by his father when very young, his mother having died previously, and that he was brought up in York Union Workhouse ; he entered Mr. Richardson's service in April last and absconded on the 29th ultimo ; dressed iu a drab canteen jacket aud vest, cotton cord trousers, with selvage on top of fall, and BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Dining the night of the 3rd instant, the house of Mrs. haworth, of Hull Bank House, parish of Newland, in the East Riding, was broken and entered, and the following Articles stolen therein : a plate Basket, containing a~ Tea Pot, a Cream Jug, a Toast Rack, an Egg Stand, with six Cups and four Spoons, king's pattern ; a Wine Strainer, two Bottle Stands, a Butter Knife, eight large Forks, eight small Forks, six Dessert Spoons, king's pattern ; eleven Tea Spoons, two Salt Cellars with Spoons, two Butter Ladles, and seven Table Spoons; all silver, with crest— a stag's head ; a Fish Slice aud two Gravy Spoons, silver and marked ' S. B.;' and a I l()- franc Piece. Information to be given to Superintendent 1 Ellerker, East Riding Constabulary, Welton, Brough, or to Inspector Cusworth, East Riding Constabulary, St. John's Wood, Hull - Bow- street, February 6. Stolen on the night of the 29th ultimo, by means of housebreaking, from Stock, the property of Mr. Bridges: 4 silver Table Spoons, marked ' B.' 3 ditto Ditto, marked'W. S. W.' 10 ditto. Ditto, some marked ' T. W.,' others ' W. S. W.' 5 silver Dessert Spoons, marked ' B.' 4 ditto Ditto marked ' W. S. W.' 3 large silver Prongs, marked ' W. S. Supposed by three men : one about 25 years of age, 5 ft. 6 in. high ; dressed in dirty light clothes. Another about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high ; dressed iu blue cap with cheesecutter peak, and black coat. And the other is about 5 feet 8 inches high ; dressed in dark coat aud light cap. All having the appearance of soldiers. Information to be given to Superintendent Dobson, Chelms- ford, Essex.— Bow- street, February 2. Description of two tramps suspected of breakng into the dwelling- house of William Jones, at Llautilliocrosenny, on the 23rd instant, and stealing therein ; about .£ 10 in Gold and Silver: One is from 20 to 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, slight build, fair complexion, aud a small dark moustache ; dressed iu a black jacket, grey trousers, and dark cap, with peak. The other from 20 to 25 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, proportionate figure ; dressed iu a black jacket, light , trousers, and black cap witn peak. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, or to Superintendent Freeman, County Constabulary Office, Aber- gavenny.— Bow- street, January 28. Between 12 p. m. on the 24th aud 8 a. m. ou the 25th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. John Steed, draper, Raglan, Monmouthshire, was burglariously broken into aud entered, and the following property stolen therein : £ i in Gold, £ 2 iu Silver, and three flannel Shirts, new, one grey, with white and yellow stripes, one black aud white plaid, one black and red plaid. A tramp of the following description is suspected : about 28 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, j proportionate make, sallow complexion, brown hair, whiskers round chin; dressed in a pilot cloth monkey jacket, grey cloth trousers, black bowler hat, and heavy boots, nailed round toes and heels ; supposed to be wearing one of the stolen shirts, having left his own behind. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, or to Superintendent Freeman, County Constabulary Office, Abergavenny, Mon- mouthshire.— Bmo- street, January 28. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a field at Churchill, during the night of the 27th ultimo, the property of Mr. Edmund Say : a half- bred chestnut Mare, 9 years old, 15 hands high, heavy in foal, star on forehead, bang tail, front feet shod with leather. £ 2 reward will be paid by Mr. Say, for such information as will lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Gillbanks, Police Office, Axbridge, Somerset.— Bow- street, February 2. Stolen at Shrewsbury cn the 27th instant: a brown Horse, 8 years old, 15 hands 2 inches high, white near hind foot, scar iuside off hock, and black mane and tail, value ,£ 45; a set of silver- mounted Harness, blue and white front to bridle, in good condition ; a plain blue dog Cart, painted white stripes ; brown plush Cushions; and a red and white coloured Rug, bound with red. By a man about 37 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, light complexion, hair, whiskers ( long), and moustache, and speaks slowly ; dressed in dark clothes, light overcoat with silk velvet collar, and high hat ; of respectable appearance. £ 5 reward will be given for his apprehension and recovery of the above property by the owner, Mr. George Oswell, Coal Proprietor, Shrewsbury. Information to be given to Head Constable Davies, Shrews- bury, Salop.— Bow- street, January 30. Stolen from a field in the parish of Hardingstone, during the night of the" 2ilh instant, the property of Mr. William Nichols : a rough black cob Horse, 13 or 14 hands high, long tail, two white fetlocks, star on forehead, white mark on off side of nose, shod all round, and in geod coudition. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Poole, Wellingborough, or at the Chief Constable's Office, Northampton.— Bow- street, January 28. Further information respecting the Mare stolen from Nuneaton, on the 6tli ultimo, since recovered. Description of JOHN LYNDON, who is charged under a warrant with stealing the above, about 47 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, deeply pockmarked, dark penetrating eyes, nearly black hair, supposed to be wearing slight whiskers, broad shoulders, thick set, thin legs, and has a cut on top lip. He is a native of Warwickshire, and is well known in Birmingham, Liver- pool, Warrington, Cardiff, & c. Iuformation to be given to Superintendent Austin, Nuneaton, Warwickshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 23. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen on the 31st ultimo, from the dwelling- house of John Brotherton, at Market Harborough : a pair of bedford cord Breeches ; a pair of light cloth Leggings, nearly new ; and two or three white Shirts, much worn. By a man about 22 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, high cheek bones, dark hair, and small whiskers and moustache ; dressed in dark cloth jacket, vest, and trousers, dark billy hat, lace- up boots, nearly new, which had three brass links on each side at top, and carried a small light coloured flag basket. Iuforma- ticn to be given to Superintendent Iliffe, Leicestershire Con- stabulary, Market narborough.— Bow- street, February 6. Absconded from Barrow, charged with embezzlement, and for whose apprehension a warrant has been issued : JAMES HORSLEY, secretary to the Operative Bricklayers' Society, 50 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, ruddy com- plexion, very red nose, long hair turning grey, grey moustache, no whiskers, and is fond rf taking snuff; dressed in grey cloth coat and vest, woollen cord trousers, and grey billycock hat ; is well known to bricklayers who have worked in Barrow duriog the last three years, and was formerly secretary to the Bricklayers' Society at Nottingham. Iufor- mation to be given to Superintendent Holden, Ulverston, or to Inspector Barker, Barrow, Lancashire, >. ho holds the warrant, aud who will pay £ 2 reward for such information as will lead to his apprehension.— Bow- street, Febntary 6. Stolen on the 24th December last, in the parish of Cuck- field, Sussex: two Mattocks ( since recovered). By WILLIAM KING, 20 or 22 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, light complexion, very freckled face, light hair, very few whiskers, stout, is single, aud by trade a brickmaker, but works on farms at dreining ; dressed in monkey jacket with white slop under, cord trousers, and grey woollen cap. In- formation to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, or to Superintendent Pocock, Cuckfield, Sussex, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Boic- street, February 6. Stolen from a lodging- house in Wakefield, on the 7th ultimo : a black aud white plaid woollen Shawl, a brown stuff Dress, trimmed with braid and fringe, a pair of women's elastic- side Boots, aud £ 2 in Money. By MARY ANN KELLY, a domestic servant, 16 or 17 years of age, short, stout build, fair complexion, light brown hair, pale face ; dressed when she absconded in a black stuff dress, and puce aud white woollen handkerchief over her head. Information to be given to Chief Constable Chipstead, Borough Police 4 P O L I C E GAZETTE. February 27. Office, Wakefield, Yorkshire, wlio holds a warrant for her apprehension.— Bow- street, February 0. The following girls have absconded fcoru the Warwick- shire Reformatory School, Coventry, on the 30th ultimo, stealing therefrom Clothing and Monies belonging to the Institution, and for whose apprehension warrants have been granted : ELIZABETH FOSTER, 17 years of age, rather tall, pro- portionately built, fresh complexion, dark hair and eyes, and good looking, and ANNIE OAKES, 17 years of age, short and stout, light complexion, light brown hair, and ail old scar or cut on tcp of head. Both girls have relations residing at Birmingham. £ 1 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as shali lead to the apprehension of the above- named girls. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Constable Norris, Coventry, Warwick.— Bow- street, February 6. WM. ARNOLD absconded from the A Division Metro- politan Police, on the 23tk ultimo, charged with frauduledely obtaining three gold Watches, English lever enamel dials, sunk seconds, engine turned cases, maker—' Bennett' eu movements : one jewelled in fr. ur holes, frame gold balance, No. 9351, reference No. scratched on outer case— 5649 ; one jewelled in 6 holes, gold balance, No. 4554, reference No. 5728 ; one jewelled in 6 holes, compound balance No. 4529, reference No. 5723. He is 30 years of age, 5 ft. 11 ins. high, fair complexion, sandy hair, whiskers, and moustache, bald ou top of head ; dressed when last seen iu great uniform, coat and leggings. Warrant issued.— Metropolitan Police, A Division, February 6. Stoten on the 3rd instant, from the dwelling house of James Morley, Market Harborough : a rough grey Overecat, with black velvet collar, two pockets outside, and one inside breast, black bone buttons, and not muoli worn. By a man about 30 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, dark hair and whiskers, pale complexion, middle size, stoops when walking, rather round shouldered ; is a travelling stable helper, and has worked in Market Harborough for a few weeks ; dressed in brown coat, vest, and trousers, brown billy hat, and lace- up shoes, with three or four holes iu the frout. Information to be given to Superintendent Iliffe, Constabulary Station, Market Harborough, Leicestershire.— Bow- street, Feb. 6. Description of GEORGE GAMBLE, a flannel weaver, tut has been working at mines, who absconded from Llanidloes, oa the 1st instant, charged with larceny : about 16 years of age, about 5 feet high, dark hair and eyes, pale complexion, small thin face, and a native of Newtown; dressed in a black short jacket, light waistcoat, light striped trousers, lace- up boots, and black cloth cap, with peak. In- formation to be given at the Chief Constable' Office, New- town, or to Sergeant Owen, Llanidloes, Montgomeryshire, vho holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 4. A warrant has been granted for the apprehension of WILLIAM LOLLOWAY, late of Wellingboro', book can- vasser, for larceny, as a bailee: he is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, grey eyes, light hair, parted in the centre, and curled at the back of head, whiskers and moustache, rather stoutly built, and is of bloated appearance from drink ; dressed iu brown cloth over- coat, black cloth coat and vest, high silk hat, or brown hard billycock, and large scarf, with a bronzed lion's head pin. He left Wellingboro' Qfx tlie 1st December, is of flash ap- pearance and manner, and lisps when talking; lias been an assurance agent at Birmingham, and as a book canvasser at Leicester, Hinckley, & c., and is supposed now to be engaged in a similar manner in London or the neighbourhood. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Poole, Wellingboro', Northamptonshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, February 2. Stolen on the 28th ultimo, from a clothes line in a garden at Old Sodbury : a calico Shirt ( since- recovered). By a tramp of the following description : about 30 years of age, 5 ft. 6 ins high, slightly built, Las a little dark moustache, and the appearance of a navvy ; dressed in a dark cloth coat and vest, light cord oi moleskin trousers, and wearing a red muffler round his neck, old elastic side boots, a rough heavy cap with flaps and tie on the top; he had in his possession a white scarf with black spots, and a tin pint or can ; is sup- posed to be a returned convict or ticket- of- leave man, and may be making his way to the North of England, and is in the babit of calling at Police Stations for admission tickets to Unions. Information to be given to Superintendent Ellison, Chipping Sodbury, Gloucestershire. — Bow- street, February 2. Absconded from Christchurch ou the 14th ultimo, charged with stealing an old- fashioned silver verge Watch, outer cases deficient; a plush- colour Carpet Bag, about 2 feet deep and 1 foot wide ; and other property ( recovered) : THOMAS PAYNE, 18 years of ago, 5 feet 3^ ins. high, fair complexion, dark brown hair, blue ring oil 2ud finger of right hand, and acar on right ditto ; dressed when he left Cbristchurch in sailor's clothes ; was 1st class boy in the Navy, and convicted by naval court- martial for theft on 22nd Feb., 1873, and sentenced to 9 months hard labour, and discharged from Her Majesty's Service. Information to be given co Superinten- dent White, Hants Constabulary, Ringwood, or to Sergeant Waters, Hants Constabulary, Christchurch, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 2. Stolen on the 5th ultimo, from the dwelling- house of John Stant Carter, rathbone- street, Tunstall, Staffordshire : a silver verge Watch, double cases, ' J. Williams' written on the back of insidexase, maker— G. Bradshaw, No. 758, had a short steel Chain attached. By a man about 24 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, full face, light hair, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed iu black cloth cap with peak, reefer jacket, brown double- breasted vest, mole- Bkin trousers, and strong lace- up boots ; he is a navvy, and stated that he came from Manchester. Information to be given to Superintendent Baker, Police Office, Tunstall, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, February 2. Stolen on the 21st instant, from a lodging- house in Hawes, the property of James Atkinson : a pair of men's lace- up Boots, nearly new, with brass eyelet- holes and toe- caps. By a man who absconded on the morning of the robbery : from 25 to 28 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark hair, beard, and moustache ; dressed in a light- coloured jacket and vest, cord or moleskin trousers, light muffler, and black hard billycock hat ; he works on railways, and is supposed to have made for Settle, in the West Riding. Information to be given to Superintendent Alderson, Leyburn, or to Inspector Smith, Hawes, via Bedale, North Riding of Yorkshire.— Bow- street, January 30. Description of GEORGE SAUNDERS, a miller, who absconded from High Easter on the 10th instant, charged with embeczleiucnt : about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches liigh, light hair and moustache, and light complexion ; dressed in ' Mack felt hat, black coat, pepper- and- salt vest, a blue striped vest underneath, brown striped trousers, blue necktie, and white leather belt with brass buckle ; he took with hiai a basket, containing a pair of black trousers. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Elsey, Police Station, Great Dunmow, Essex— Bow- street, January 30. Absconded on the 13lh instant, from Ipswich, charged with embezzling the sum of £ 113, the moneys of David Henry Booth, coal merchant: HARRY JOHN MILLS, clerk and cashier, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark brown hair, cut short behind, small dark moustache and whiskers, sallow complexion, and is a native of Sax- raundham, Suffolk ; dressed in a steel mixture suit, blue monkey jacket over, aud high black hat. Information to be given to Head Constable Mason, Police Office, Town Hall, Ipswich, Suffolk, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, January 30. Absconded from Colchester, charged with stealing on the 24th instant, from the Cavalry Barracks the sum of £ 3 17s. : THOMAS C. CLARK, alas G. W. CLARK, about 30 yrrf of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, light curly hair, moustache, no whiskers, and thinly built; dressed in light tweed coat and vest, pair of Yeomanry trousers, aud billycock hat. He is a pianist, and frequents concert rooms and other pi ices of amusement, especially in garrison towns. Information to bo given to Chief Constable Mercer, Town Hall, Colchester, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Jan. 30. Charged with stealing a quantity of Trousers and Vests from Chapel- street, St. Pancras : JAMES CASEY, 32 years of age, florid complexion, sandy whiskers, slightly pockpitted, frout teeth in upper jaw deficient; is a clothier's assistant, is well known in the New Cut, Lambeth, aud is supposed to have gone into the country. Warrant issued.— Metropolitan Police, Y Dicision, January 30. Absconded on the 19th instant, from Minchinhampton, charged with embezzlling 8s., the moneys of his master, Mr. Charles Eddells, baker : JAMES WEBB, 25 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion, dark hair, and whiskers meeting under chin.
