On the 21st instant, the dead body of a newly- born male Infant was found in a pond at Stroud Green, Greenham, near Newbury. The body w; is wrapped iu brown paper and a piece of black alpaca pound tightly round with strong twine, and presented uuinistakeable appearances of having been strangled ; according to the medical evidence it appeared to have been in the water about a week. At an inquest held on the 22ud instant the jury returned a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' against some person or persons unknown. Stolen from the person of William Young, in a beerhouse at East Grinstead, on the 12th instant : a double- cased silver verge Watch, maker's name ' Stephen Crundwell, Tunbridge, No. 8571.' Information to be given to Superintendent Kennard, East Grinstead, Sussex.— Bow- street, December 22. Stolen from the person in the city of Durham, on the night of the 20th July last, a silver patent lever Watch, silver face, gold figures, nearly new, maker Waterfield, Willington, with gold albert Guard ( long links) and locket ( engraved ' Forget me not'). Description of WILLIAM SMITH, alias GIPSY BILL a horse dealer, who is charged with stealing a Watch aud Chain, from the person of Andrew Dawes, with violence, on the 13th October last, at Birmingham : he is about 36 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, sallow complexion, small dark whiskers ; generally dressed in brown or grey overcoat, dark tighi, fitting trousers, and billycock hat. He frequents horse fairs, and markets iu the Midland Districts. Informa- tion to be given to Chief Superintendent Glossop, Police Office, Birmingham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension — Bonn- street, December 17, BURGLARY AND HOUSX. BREAKING. Between 6 and 7 p. m. on the 21st inst, the house of Edward Davies, of the Adwyr, near Wrexham, tailor and clothier, was brokeu into by means of breaking the lock olf the back door, aud a Cash Box containing .£ lt> 0 10s. in gold, woe £ 5 Note of the N. aud S. Wales Bank, aud £' i in Silver, waB stolen from the bed- room. A man who had been work- ing for Mr. Davies, and who was discharged on the 18th inst., is suspected. He is 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, stoutly built, round face, light complexion, and a light mous- tache ; usually wears green plaid trousers, black coat aud hat, and is of very respectable appearance. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Bradshaw, Wrexham, Denbigh- shire.— Bow- sfeet, December 26. During the night of the 21st instant, a lock- up shop at Broomhill, near Barnsley, in the West Riding of Yorkshire, was forcibly entered, and the following articles stolen therein : a Bilver lever Watch, with white dial, seconds hand, engine- turned case, aud capped, makers Storey aud Sidman, Dews- bury, No. 25923, had attached a gold albert Guard, with long thick links, stamped ' 10carat;' a heavy dark grey Irish frieze Overcoat, with three pockets outside aud one inside left breast, dark bone buttons, black aud slate lining, and black velvet collar ; 25 yards of woollen Shirting, scarlet and black, Rob Roy pattern, with rather large square check ; 26 yards of grey woollen Shirting, check and striped ; about two dozen woollen Shawls, various colours; three pairs of pew elastic- side Boots, 6, 7, and 8 sizes, with buttons up the front; 5 lbs. of twist Tobacco, thick and thin, aud the finest brown ; and abcut 2s. 6d. in copper Money. Wanted, charged with committing the burglary at St. John's, Sevenoaks, on the 18th and advertised iu the Police Gazette of the 24th ultimo : HENRY REECE, alias HAWKES, 30 years of age, 5 feet 7h inches high, sandy hair, no whiskers, sandy stubby moustache, blue ey es, fair complexion, and a bricklayer by ta' Col ~ ta " A trade. Was discharged from Cold Bath Fields Prison, on Stolen on the night of the 17th instant, from a field at Manton : an aged black nag Horse, about 15i hands high, in very good condition, very small white star on forehead, and both knees chipped. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING GEORGE ROBINS, late of 31, Oak Village, Gospel Oak, btolen on the night of the 19th instant, from Stockheath, Kentish Town, is charged with felony : he is 28 years of age, Havant: a bay mare lony, 6 years old, 14 hands high, dark 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, brown hair, cut short-, slight mous- stupe down face, large bony knees, and turns forefeet in- tache, pointed beard, no whiskers, blue eyes, fresh complexion, wards, long tail cut square, and in good condition; a set of t) im build, walks quickly with rather a stoop, small head, Gig Harness with Chain Tugs; also a light spring Cart, which he has a habit of turning quicklv, aud speaks hoarsely; made of oak, painted green, the paint nearly worn off, both dressed iu heavy rough dark blue overcoat, dark trousers, and shafts having been broken and mended with plates of iron., cutaway coat, and tall hat. By a man of the following description : 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, dark hair and whiskers, meeting under the ehiu ; dressed in a Scotch cap with ribbon behind, short drab slop, and cord trousers, having the appearance of a farm labourer, information to be given to Superintendent Thorsby. Stolen on the 20ih instant, from the commercial- room of the Cross Keys Inn, Northampton : two meerschaum Pipes ( one new, the other coloured), the largest is a billiard pipe, with amber mouthpiece, aud under the amber near the stem is a dark mark about the size of a pin's head ; the smallest is in a violet aud black leather case, aud has the name ' Hart- man, Vienna,' inside the case ; and a white silk Handkerchief, marked ' \ V. S.' iu corner. By a man of the following descrip- tion ( who lodged in the above house one night and left with- out paying his bill): 33 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, very large nose, and ginger- coloured whiskers and moustache ; dressed in dark clothes, grey overcoat, aud high silk hat. £ 2 reward will be paid ou his apprehension aud recovery of the property. Stolen on the 18th instant, the property of Patrick Clinton, of Consett: a patent, lever silver Watch, with white dial, gold hands, aud engiue- turned case, No. 1230, had a silver Guard attached. By a man who gave bis name GEO. ANDERSON, about 20 jears of age, about 5 feet 3 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, small thiu whiskers, long features, bridge of nose rather flat, slender figure, by trade a blacksmith, aud has worked at ship yards aud iron works in the North of England ; dressed iu black cloth coat, with velvet Collar, moleskin trousers aud vest, blue flaunel shirt, check scarf, black cloth cap, and old boots. Information to be given to Superintendent Oliver, Durham County Constabulary, Consett, who holds a warrant fcr his appre- hension.— Bow- street, December 24. Stolen from No. 14, Edgware- street, Edge- hill, Liverpool, a Harp, maker ' Erards,' black belly, with ornaments at the bottom, aud figures of females. By a mau of the following description : 5 feet 4 inches high, face very red with pimples, aud wore a round black cloth and round hat. A reward of 10s. will be giveu for his apprehension. Information to be given to Superintendent Harrap, Edgeside, Lancashire.— Bow- street, December 24. , Stolen from the Turk's Head public- house, Eton, on the morning of the 18th instant : two Blankets, worn, which have been recovered. By a man who slept at the house for the night: a Scotchman, about. 3 > years of age, ft feet 10 or 11 inches high, light liaii, very little whiskers, tooth out in front, and fair complexion ; dressed iu dark clothes, grey check cap with peak, and had a white comforter round his neck. Information to be given to Superintendent Dunham, Slough, or to Iuspector Pearman, Eton, Bucks.— Bow- street, December 22. Description of WILLIAM ATKINSON, a tramping joiner, who i charged wir. h stealing some Tools, which are recovered at Barton, Lincolnshire : he is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, brown hair, very much whiskers aud moustache, fies- li complexion ; dressed in an old faded black cloth coat, dark vest, cheeked trousers, mended at the knees, old Wellington boots, and billycock hat ; has an Irish woman with him who passes as his wife ; he seeks work at his trade, also as a saw sharpener, begs, and is very fond of drink, sleeps at low lodging houses ; was traced to Hull ou the 18th instant, and is supposed to be makiug for the north. Information to be given to Superintendent Fuller, Barton- upon- Humber, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, December 22. Absconded from cheltenhem on the 11th instant, charged with stealing five sets of leather boot Bottoms, four pairs of ladies boot Tops, and one pair of boot Lasts, the property of Mr. Thomas Ryder, their employer : WILLIAM JAMES, a shoemaker, about 4' » years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, black curly hair, pale complexion, dark moustache, good- shaped nose, no eyelashes, rather red eyes as though they had once beeu sole, aud of thiu make. EDGINGTON, shoemaker, about 4\) years of age, and 5 feet 7 inches high, rather li ht hair, large round face, clean shaved, pugilistic dissipated apjiearance, stoutly made, wears light clothes, and has his sou with him, a boy about 7 years of age. Infor- mation to be giveu to Superintendent Day, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, who holds warrants for their apprehension.— Bow- street, December 22. Absconded from Nottingham on the 12th instant, charged on a warrant with embezzling various sums of Money : JOSEPH RANBY, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, proportionate build, fresh complexion, prominent Roman nose, browu hair, small whiskers, no moustache ; dressed in blue overcoat, with velvet collar ; has been a com- mercial traveller iu the drapery and fancy milliuery trade ; he has a relative living in Dawson- lane, Holdness- street, Hull. Information to lie given to Chief Constable Poyntz, Boro' Police Station, Nottingham.— Bow- street, December 19. Absconded from Holt on the 8th instant, charged with stealing from his master : one brown double- breasted Over- coat with sealskin collar, two pockets behind, and one breast ditto, lined with a kiud of black twill; a horse- clipping Machine, clark's make; aud a singing Ditto: HENRY THAXTEN, groom, 27 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, swartuy complexion, small dark whiskers, little jliair on chiu ; dressed in see^ v- black coat, drabbed trousers, and white chummy hac ; wains rather quick, aud may be found amongst drovers. Information to be given to Inspector Mobbs, Holt, Norfolk, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, December 19. Absconded about the 14th ultimo, having embezzled several SUMS of Money : HUGH RODGER, late of Wolver- hampton, draper's assistant, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, black curly hair, dark moustache, sallow com- plexion, small features, and large eyes; was dressed in A blue ribbed coat, blue Petersham overcoat, lined with black aud white plaid, dark striped trousers, and silk hat. HAD with him a dark plaid or check jacket, with trousers nearly to match, and deerstalker hat. £ 10 reward will be PAID TO ANY person or persors giving information leading to his appre- hension and conviction. Information to be giveu to Chief Consable Segrave, Wolverhampton, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 19. On the night of the 29th ulitmo, several large boxes at the Barron- wood cutting, on the Settle aud Carlisle Railway, were broken open, and about 70 lbs. of Gunpowder stolen therefrom, the property of Mr. Bayliss, contractor. Also, ou the same night, a wooden Building, used as a blacksmith's shop, was blown up with gunpowder and other damage com- mitted. A warrant has been issued for the appraheusiou of WILLIAM BUTLER, an Irishman, who was discharged from the works on the 29th ultimo : about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, ruddy complexion, aud rather dark sandy whiskers round the face; dressed in a faded dark jacket, velveteen or plush faucy waistcoat, diamond pattern of all colours, moleskin or grey cloth trousers patched ou the knees, black billycock hat, and clogs ; he is of idle habits, frequents common lodging- houses, aud occasionally sleeps at workhouse vagrant wards.
