O. %• Whenever it is desireJ that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that on Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thoreof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor cnnst be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, 8. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. JOHN LEWIN, alias DIDLUM TAYLOR, charged with the murder of Thos. Monk, at Wiatow, on the 30th J uly last, lias been apprehended at Chesterfield, by the Derbyshire Constabulary ; the other three charged with the same offence advertised in the Police Gazette of the 5th instant, are still at large. Information to be given to Superintendent Burdett, Aylestone, near Leicester.— Bow- street, Nov. 12. On the morning of the 10th instant, the dead body of a full- grown male Child was found floating in the river Weaver, at Hartford, near Northwieh, Cheshire ; a staylace was tied tightly round its neck. At a coroner's inquest held on the body on the 11th instant, a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' was returned against some person or persons at present unknown. Information to be i, iven to Superintendent Rowbottom, Middlewich, or to Inspector Hindley, Northwich, Cheshire. — Bow- street, November 12. BOBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person at Penrith Hiring, on the Uth instant : a black leather purse, with steel top, containing two £ b Notes, and about £ 8 10a. in Gold. Information to be given to Superintendent Fowler, Penrith, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, November 17. Stolen on the 8th instant, from the person of Peter Walker, between Sherburn and West Sherburn, in the county of Durham : a silver verge Watch, No. 74018, plain face, black figures, maker James Smith, ' P. W.' scratched on inside of outer case, and a gold Locket, oval- shaped, flowered, and having a small portion of light hair inside. Information to be given to Superintendent Dunn, County Constabulary, Durham.— Bmv- sWeet, November 17. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, at Pontypridd Railway Station, on the 12th instant: a gold duplex Watch, large size, plain case, maker Molyneux, London, No. 4014, value £ 40. £ f> reward will be paid on the apprehension and conviction of the offender and recovery of the watch. Description of a man charged with stealing from the person at Middlesborough, on the 15th instant: a black leather Purse, with a steel clasp, and a small brass chain about an inch long, had an interior compartment, with clasp, which contained two Half Sovereigns, a two Shilling Piece, and eight Pawntickets, for articles of clothing, pawned at Bainbridges and Pottages, Middlesborough ; he is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, proportionate build, whiskers round face, and no moustache ; dressed in moleskin trousers and vest, dark coat, and cap. Stolen on the Shrewsbury Race Course, on the 14th inst., a gold lever stop Watch, f- plate, jewelled in 8 holes, centre seconds, No. 32,563, maker Samuel Barlow, Stockport, inscrip tion on bottom case,' Presented to Thomas Barlow, of the Punjaub Railway, by D. F. McCload, Esq., Financial Com- missioner of the Punjaub, for services rendered to the Anner- kullee Baths, Lahore, June 11th, 1861;' also a silver lever Watch, No. 314, maker Marnes ; and a silver hunting Watch, maker Rowley, Shrewsbury, ' W. Roberts' engraved on the outside of under case. Information to begiven to Head Constable Davies, Shrewsbury.— Bow- street, November 17. Absconded from Usk, on the night of the 8th instant, charged with stealing twenty- four Sovereigns from the person of a farmer, whilst drank, on the Usk and Newport road: GEORGE WILLIAMS, supposed to be a native of Bristol, aud has been to sea. about 26 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, proportionately built, fair complexion, brown hair, small dark moustache, no whiskers ; dressed when he absconded in a slop jacket, moleskin vest and trousers, and black aud white straw hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Berthon, Monmouthshire Constabulary, Usk. — Bow- street, November 14. Stolen from the person of Mr. Henry Bell, in the Hiring, at Hexham, on the ] 1th instant, a gold Watch, No. 37151, makers Listers and Sons, Newcastle- on- Tyne. £ 2 reward will be paid by Superintendent Stephenson, Hexham, on recovery of the watch aud conviction of the offender or offenders, to whom all information is be given.,— Bow- street, November 14. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between 7 a. m. and 5 p. m. on the 18th instant, the cottage of Robert Rand, in the parish of Ridlington, Oxford- shire, was broken into during the absence of the family, and the following articles of wearing apparel stolen therein : a dark cloth Coat; a grey mixture Vest; a pair of Trousers, same material; a hard felt Hat ; and an old black shawl with fringe, a nearly new common Prayer Book was in one of the pockets of the coat. Supposed to have been committed by a tramp, who was seen near the cottage about 11 a. m., about 5 feet 4 inches high ; dressed ia a light pair of trousers, and grey jacket. Information to be given to Inspector Bowen, County Police Station, Woodstock, Oxon.- Bow- st., Nov. 21. Between 11 p. m. on the 15th and 7 a. m. on the 16th iust., the dwelling- house of Amon Anscombe, builder, Lindfield, was broken and entered, aud stolen therein : five silver Dessert Spoons, marked ' A. E. A.'; a large silver Table Spoon, marked ' J. R., A. E. A.'; six silver Tea Spoons, marked ' A. E. A.;' a pair of gold Eye- glaeses, round; four silver Thimbles; a small Timepiece, in brass frame ; about a dozen new Pocket Kuives, single aud double- bladed ; three Pruning Knives ; two small marble Ornaments ; a black cloth Overcoat, velvet collar, covered buttons, pocket at each side ; a bull's- eye Lantern ; two glazier's Diamonds ; and about £ 7 in Gold and Silver ( including several 3d. and 4d. pieces. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, or to Superintendent Pocock, Cuckfield, Sussex. — Bow- street, October 19. During the night of the 14th instant, a cottage at Moulsford, Berkshire, was broken into and stolen therein : a pair of Shoes, nearly new, steel tips on heels, plates on toes, two rows of nails each side, three rows in the middle ( one nail out of the middle row of left shoe), and brass eyelet- holes; and 6s. Information to be given to Superintendent Borlace, County Police Station, Wallingford, Berks.— Bow- st, Nov. 19. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen on the 10th instant, from a field near Pwllhelig, in the parish of Llautwitmajor, Glamorganshire : a Colt ana Filly, sucklings, iron grey colour, the property of Mr. Morgan Jones, Llantwitmajor. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Sadler, Constabulary Office, Bridgend.— Bow- street, November 21. Absconded from Kirkcudbright, charged with sheep stealing at Land is, in the parish of New Abbey, on the 15th inst. : JOHN BURNIE, a farm servant, native of Dumfries or neighbourhood, 21 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, black hair, dark complexion, black eyes, dark eyebrows, no whiskers, small moustache, small tuft on chin, two large teeth in front of upper jaw, and proportionately made; dressed in dark cloth coat and vest, dark cloth or striped trousers, boots, and black felt hat. He was traced to Dumfries Railway Station on the night of the 15th instant ; he has a relative residing at Bowerhouse, Ruthwell, Dumfriesshire. A sheriff's warrant has been granted for Bnrnie's appreheusion. Infor- mation to be given to the Chief Constable, Kirkcudbright.— Bow- street, November 21. Stolen early on the morning of the 18th instant, from a field in Macclesfield, a heavy dark brown horse Colt, rising 4 years old, about 16^ hands high, a little white down the nose, hair rubbed off the bottom of the neck near the breast, black flat legs, long back, switch tail, full mane, and without shoes. Supposed by a man about 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, slender make, sallow complexion, large Roman nose, aud small whiskers ; dressed iu a dirty grev overcoat, cord trousers, and black billycock hat. He was traced to a smithy in Gawsworth, where he had the horse shod with a new set of flat Bhoes, stamped ' W. Holland,' he then had a saddle aud bridle on the horse, and a short whip in his hand. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension aud conviction of the offender and recovery of the horse. Information to be given to Head Constable Etchells, Macclesfield, Cheshire.— Bow- street, No- vember 21. Found in Windsor, supposed to have been stolen, on the 11th instant : a bay Mare, about 3 years old, 14J hands high, bang tail, a little white near left hiud foot, a scissors mark ' H. S.' on the near side. Information to be given to Super- intendent Hayes, Windsor, Berks.— Bow- street, November la Description of JOHN RICHARD KING, farmer, late of Woodlands Farm, Beaconsfield, Bucks, charged with steal- ing, on the loth instant, at the parish of Beaconsfield : seven Heifers, a Cow, two Calves, sixteen Sheep, aud five Lambs ( all of which have been recovered). About 45 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches hijjh, fresh complexion, dark brown hair and whiskers on chin, rather stout, and walits with a rolling gait; dressed in brown coat, pockets at sides, white corduroy breeches and gaiters, lace- up shoes, dark neckscarf, and high black hat. He is a native of Beds or Hunts, is well known at Bedford, St Neot's, and Kingston- on- Thames, and came to Bucks about 18 months ago. Has relations now residing near St. Neot's, Hunts, who are farmers. Infor- mation to be given to Inspector Ray, Police Station, Beaconsfield, Bucks, who holds a warrant for his apprehen- sion.— Bow- street, November 19. Stolen from a field at Southam, on the night of the 14th instant: a dark brown nag Horse, 7yenr8old, 15 bands 3 ins. high, a patch of wliite on off hind leg, two splints on near and one on off foreleg. Whoever will give sach information as will lead to the apprehension of the offender or offenders, Bball receive £ 30 reward. Information to' be to Superinten- dent Palmer, Rugby, or to Inspector Walker, Sontham, War- wickshire.— Bvw- street, November 19. Stolen from a stable at Green- end Farm, at Sarrat, neat Watford, Herts, on the 16th instant: a dappled grey cart Mare, in good condition, long tail and mane, white star on face, 4 years old, 15 hands high, and chafed mark behind the near ear; when stolen it had on a headstall under a plain winkered cart bridle : also a Horse Cloth, marked in red letters ' George Wade, Sarratt Hall, Herts.' £ 10 reward will be ;> aid by Mr. Wade, the owner, for such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender and Offenders. Information to be given to Inspector Chap- man, Watford, Herts.— Bom- street, November 19. Stolen from a field situate at Moor- lane, Brierley Hill, in the parish of Kingswinford, the property of Edward Bowen, of Kingswinford, viz. : a black bac' Mare, 15% hands | high ; a chesnut horse Pony, 3 years old, 111 hands high ; aud a black horse Pony, 4 years old, 12 hands high, and in fair condition. Information to be given to Superintendent Mills, Police Office, Brierley- hill, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, November 17. Stolen from Kirtling, on the 13th instant, a small Shet- land mare Pony, daik bay, rough coal hog mane, and square- cut tail, had no shoes on ; trained for a girl to ride. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Benson, Newmarket, Cambridge.— Bow- street, November 17. Absconded from Blackburn, on the 11th instant, THOMAS LONG, charged with stealing a Horse and Gig, of the value of £' A0, the property of Mr. Henry Ainsworth. They were sold the same day at Burnley, and have been re- covered. He is 25 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, oval face, sandy hair, slight mouctache, and slight beard on chiu- i end ; Very sallow complexion ; proportionate make. The j letters ' T. L.' are tattooed on one of his forearms ; is a | striker in a foundry, and sometimes takes employment in re- moving old engines; is a native of Yorkshire, but has been iu Blackburn 12 or 14 years ; has been traced to Leeds, and may endeavour to emigrate to America. Whosoever will give such information as shall lead to his arrest will receive £ 2 on applijation to Chief Coustable Potts, Town Hall, Black- burn, Lancashire, who holds a warrant for his arrest.— Bow- street, November 17. Stolen from a meadow, in the parish of Dilwyn, in the county of Hereford, on the 4th instant : a black cob Mare, aged, about 14 hands high, long mane, short dock tail, two hmd heels white, ana a small lump under the mane on the off side, the property of Mr. Thomas Vaughn, of Dilwyn. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Shead, Weobly, or to Police Constable Allen, Hyde, Dilwyn, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, November 14. Stolen from a field at Bedworth, on tve night of the 9th instant, the property of Mr. Geo. Clarke : two Ponies, of the following description : one a brown cob Pony, It) years old, 14£ hands high, white star on forehead, short tail, a little lame on the forefeet; the other a light bay mare Pony, 8 years old, 13£ hands high, white star on forehead, short bang tail. Also, at the same time and place, the property of Mr. Jesse Smith : a grey mare Pony, 9 years old, 12 hands high, the hair slightly knocked off both knees, long tail with the end cut level. Information to be given to Superintendent Austin, Nuneaton, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, Nov. 14. Stolen on the night of the 10th instant, from a field at Fazeley, the property of Mr. William ; a dark brewn Mare, half bied, rising 4 years old, 15 hands high, small white star on forehead, very thin short maue, switch tail, a few white hairs on one hind foot, near knee broken, off knee slightly scarred, very quiet, and in good condition. A man of the following description was seen near the field at 5 p. m. on the 10th instant, and shortly afterwards rode a horse in the direction of Birmingham : about 30 years of age, dressed in a dark jacket aud billycock hat, and was carrying a rush basket, fastened on his back with strap. £ 10 reward will be paid on the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the horse.
