O. %• Whenever it is desired that any person Bhould be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and Bworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insortion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article hi the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor aaaat be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of 8tate for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without hi* authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the 18th instant, the dead body of a male infant Child, wrapped in a coarse white apron, with a stocking twisted round the neck, was found iu the river Mole, near the Warkleigh Hotel, Warkleigh, Devon. A coroner's inquest has been held, aud a verdict returned of ' Found dead by strangulation.' .£ 50 reward will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person who will give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers ; and the Secretary of State for the Home Department will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious Pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, who will give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Absconded from Macclesfield, on the 20th inst,, charged • with uttering and putting off a forged bill of exchange and acceptance for the sum of £ 92 13s. lOd. : EDWIN HARTHAM, silk dealer, 30 to 36 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, proportionate make, rather pale complexion, prominent hazel eyes, one of them bloodshot in the corner, good teeth, long neck, throws his head back when walking, is of nervous habit, and had a moustache aud imperial; he bad the following Bank of England Notes in his possession : M | 12 64722, London, 11th July, 1873, jfilOO ; M I 12 64723, London, lltli July, 1873, £ 100 ; X | 23 02059, Manchester, 25th January, 1873, .£ 50. He was accompanied by his wife, 35 years of age, very fair complexion, light sandy hair, blue eyes, small black mark over one eye, and has no eyebrows. They had with them two tin trunks, three wooden boxes, and a new brown leather portmanteau, and it is supposed that they will endeavour to emigrate. Information to be given to Head Constable Etchells, Macclesfield, Cheshire, who holds a warrant for the man's apprehension.— Bow- street, October 29. Description of THOMAS BRANDON CARTER, charged with utteriug and putting off a forged acceptance of a bill of exchange, beariug date Gloucester, Sept. 1st, 1873, for i.' S4 5s., with intent to defraud Geo. Lucas, of Pembroke Dock: about 60 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, stout figure, fair complexion, short grey hair aud whiskers, nose slightly turned up, film on right eye, which is blind, bald on top of head, and has a small wen on left side of forehead, over left eye ; generally dressed iu black coat and vest, dark grey trousers, and black soft felt hat; he speaks with a slight Scotch accent, but is believed to be au American by birth, and is supposed to be now in London. Information to be given to Chief Constable Stokes, Haverfordwest, or to Super- intendent Thomas, Pembroke, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 27. on the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the Watch. Information to be given to Chief Constable Cook, HulL— Bow- street, October 29. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen on the night of the 18th instant, from the person at the Railway Station, Durham : a silver patent lever Watch, No. 3248, maker B. Bernstein, Sunderland, with gold albert Guard attached, short and long links twisted, Key and Seal attached, with brown and green stone. £ 2 reward will be given on recovery of the Property and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Chief Con- stable Wilson, Durham City.— Bow street, October 29. Stolen from tl, e person of a gentleman on the 23rd inst., in Hull: an English gold lever Watch, maker A. Maspoli, Hull, No. 67518, £•} reward and all expences will be paid BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. The dwelling- house of Mr. Sainsbury, draper, of Brent- wood, was broken into early on the morning of the 28th instant, and about seventy dozen of men's, women's, and children's kid and dogskin Gloves, of various colours, stolen. By three men : one about 25 yeara of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, fair hair and moustache; dressed in dark, clothes, dark brown overcoat, and black felt hat : another, about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, light brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, right eye bjack ; dressed in dark overcoat, dark double- breasted vist, dark cord trousers, and soft black hat: the other, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fair hair ; dressed in light tweed suit and black felt hat. They took tickets by the 6 a. m. train at the Bientwood Railway Station for London. Information to be given at tbe Police Station, Brentwood, Essex.— Bow- street, October 31. On tV night of the 19th instant, a grocer and draper's shop at Frampton- on- Severn was broken into, and stolen therein : about 4 lbs. of Tobacco— one half Bird's- eye, and remainder fine Rag;] one black cloth sac Jacket, size 12. with pockets at sides and at breast; a pair of youth's tweed Trousers, size 12, fly fronts; a pair of shooting Boots, not nailed, toe- capped, size 7, with rivetted bottoms and brass screws ; two or three woollen coloured Shirts; a black and white woollen Scarf; two or three pairs of women's brown- coloured cotton Stockings; two or three red and white cotton Montague Mufflers; and about 7s. in Coppers from tbe till. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and con- viction of the offender or offenders and tbe recovery of the property. Stolen from a field at Whipton, near Exeter, on the 18th instaut, a bay Mare, the property of Mr. P. Collings, 1 Longbrook strset, Exeter: about 12 years old, 14i hands' high, white stars in the forehead, black points, large scar on ' the near shoulder and on hind quarters, large carcass, and] supposed to be in foa>. Information to be given to the Deputy Chief Constable of Devon, Constabulary Barracks, Exeter.— Bow- street, October 31. Description of ANDREW FACER, late of North- ampton, who is charged with stealing the Mare and Wagonette, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 24th inst., which he sold at Market Harborough, and have beenj recovered : he is about 55 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, fresh complexion, small grey or white whiskers, aud l bald head ; dressed in black cloth suit, and black silk hat. j Information to be given to Chief Constable Keenan, Chief ] Constable's Office, Northampton.— Bow- street, October 29. Stolen during the night of the 13th instant, from a Geld at Hatton Grange, near Shiffnal, Salop : four Ewes and four Ram Lambs of the Shropshire Down breed ; one of the lambs has a long tail, marked on the right thigh with a heart in a ring in pitch, the property of Mr. J. Lindops. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Superintendent Richardson, Wellington, Salop, or Sergeant Barrett, Shiffnal, Salop.— Bow- street, October 27. Stolen ftom a field at Boxley, during the night of the 16th instaut: two brown Geldings— one rising 3 years old, the other rising 4 years ; one of them has trt'o white feet, and each has a small white mark on forehead, and are both 15 hands high. £ 10 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension aud conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the horses. Stolen from Moraston Farm, near Ross, on the night pf the 20thor 21st inst. : 13 Shropshire Ewes, marked ' A. A.' £ 6 reward will be paid to any person who will give such infor- mation as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders on application to Superintendent Cope, Police Station, Ross, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, October 27. Stolen from a field in Westacre on the 18th instant: a li" ht brown mare Donkey, with a large white spot on its side. Information to be given to Superintendent Rose, Docking, King's Lynn, Norfolk.— bow- street, October 27. Stolen from Slade Farm, Rogate, between 7 a. m. and 7 p. m. on the 15tli instant: a roan- coloured Steer, about 10 months old, marked with tar down the back. Information to be given to Superintendent Clarke, West Sussex Constabulary, Midhurst.— Bow- street, October 27. Stolen from a field at Boyland's Oak Farm on the night of the 15th instant, tbe property of Mr. James Surridge, farmer, of Stapleford Abbots: a red roan cart Mare, aged, from 15 to 16 hands high, switch tail, clean legs, and in good working condition. Information to be given to Superintendent Simpson, Epping, or to Inspector Robinson, Police Station, Chipping Ongar, Essex.— Bow- street, October 24, LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Description of SAMUEL SPRING, charged on a war- rant with larceny at Pembroke College : from 40 to 45 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, small whiskers, very sore eyes, waits lame with left foot, and is tattooed on one arm. He has been a sailor and may be found in a sea.- port town. Information to be given to Superintendent Head, Police Office, Oxford.— Bow- street, October 31. ,. ii dans sWnUhr odw i Description of WILLIAM ROSE, a fishmonger's assistant, who is charged with embezzling £\ lis. 5d., the moneys of Emma Smith, fishmonger, Birmingham : aboat 22 years of age, about 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark brown hair and eyes ( bloodshot), and scar in centre of left hand caused by a Recent wound. It is supposed that he will emigrate. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Glossop, Birmingham, who holds a warrant far his apprehen- sion.— Boic- tiriet, October 3L Absconded, charged at Greenock, on a sheriff's warrant with having, on the 20th and 22nd ultimo, fraudulently obtained several articles of Clothing from clothiers in the town Of Greenock : JOSEPH JACK » tailor, about 30 yrs. of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, small face, pale yellow- ish complexion, slender make, walks Upright, delicate looking, broad Scotch accent, and is a native of Dundee ; respectably dressed. He was employed for about, twelve months by two firms in Greenock, on the above dates he represented to his employers that his brother- in- law, mate of a ship, had just returned from sea, that he was then in Glasgow, and that he wanted some clothing. On this i epres? ntation he obtained from them, the following : a blue satara cloth Topcoat, single- breasted, Chesterfield, woollen lining, plain front and buttons, well made, and has a coat- hanger with ' Maclachlan and Paterson, 15, Hamilton Street, Greenock,' on it; a brown melton cloth Topcoat, Chesterfield, double- breasted, brown Italian lining, double stitched edges ; a blue pilot cloth Top- coat, Chesterfield, check woollen lining, cloth buttons, double stitched edges ; two blue pilot Jackets, velvet collars, mauve and black check woollen lining, cloth buttons, double- breasted, each has a coat hanger with name of firm ' Maclach- lan and Paterson, 15, Hamilton Street, Greenock,' on it; a Chipping Norton tweed Suit, plain mixture, yellow and white, double- breasted shooting coat and vest, trousers riy fronts, iron buttons 4 a pair ot striped Trousers and Vest, plain black stripe about an eighth of an inch broad, on each side of a brown cable pattern stripe, narrow grey and yellow stripe between two plain brown stripes same width a. s black stripe, iron buttous on trousers, with name of firm ' Maclachlan and Paterson, Greenock,' on them, vest lined inside with grey selesia lining. From another firm, in whose employment he had formerly been, Jack obtained, on a similar representation, a blue cloth shooting Coat, a pair of Trousers aud Vest, and a blue cloth Topcoat, About three years ago he was town councillor in Arbroath, is respectably connected, and has relatives about Dundee, Arbroath, aud other towns in the north east of Scotland. He may be working either as a tailor, cutter, or machinist. Description of HENRY RANSOM WILLIAMSON, a gunsmith, who is charged with stealing, on the 8th instant, a double- barrelled breechloading Gun ( since recovered), the property of John W. Dixon, of Owersby : about 23 years of age, about 5 feet S^ inches high, light brown hair, very little light hair on face" scar on forehead, very spotty face, very irregular teeth, and large nose, turned a little on one side ; dressed in black coat and vest, light trousers, black hat, elastic side boots, and white apron, or a suit of grey clothes and grey hat ; he generally wears his hat very much on the back of his head, and is a great dog fancier. Information to be given to Superintendent Hensou, Market Rasen, Lincoln- shire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 31. Further information respecting the man charged with felony at Shoreham ( advertised in the Police Gazette of the 27th instant): he gave the name of JAMES GEORGE MONTAGUE WALLACE, of the Grove, Brixton : he is 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, thin long face, very prominent or Roman nose, and carries his head forward. He wore a ring with four stones ( centre one being deficient). A warrant has also been issued for bis apprehension for larceny at Worthing. Information to be given to Superintendent Parnell, West Sussex Constabulary, Steyning, or to Superintendent Blake, Worthing, Sussex.- Bow- strte:, October 31. He has been getting his living amongst foreign emigrants, and he probably will go to some seaport town with a view of leaving the country. Piece attached ; and 12s. in Silver: GEORGE FORBES, alias GEORGE WILLIAM 8, alias GEORGE SMITH, an engine driver or labourer, about 45 years of age, about15 feet 6 inches high, stout build, dark complexion, dark brown hair, sandy whiskers round faca, and supposed to be a native of Liverpool j dressed in blue cloth pilot monkey jaoket aud vest, brown cord trousers, washed, small patch on one knee, black bowler hat, cossack boots, and wears ear- rings. Stated that lie came from Bath ( where he has a wife living) about 3 weeks ago, hud where he had been driving anengine on the Bath and Evercreech Line.
