Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, ma; bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. %• Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with tbe Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the KJLICB GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor nnost be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Seoretary of 8tate for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Description of JAMES CATON, a collier, charged with wounding Henry Parker, who has since died, at Tunatall, on the 13th instant : about 24 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, full face, no whiskers or moustache; dressed iu black billycock hat, large brim, dark blue reefer jacket, and sometimes a short black jacket with tlaps, light trousers and vest, and elastic side boots. He was iu company with a man named Levi Allen, who has » ince been apprehended. Information to be given to Super- intendent Baker, Police Office, Tunstall, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Dow- strcet, October 20 6d. Pieces, and Is., which, with two or three of the 6d. pieces have the letter ' Y.' stamped on them. Information to be given to Chief Constable Nicholls, Newcastle- on- Tyne.— Bow- street, October 20. During the night of the 17th instant, the shop of Mr. William Jackson, draper, Braintree, was broken into and stolen therein : ten pieces of black Silk, from 16 to 33 yards long ; four dress pieces of coloured striped Silk ; 20 to 30 yards of black silk velvet; 27 doz. of black and coloured kid Gloves ; a quantity of coloured silk Fringes ; and about 24s. in Money. By two men who were traced to Witham By. Station : one about 5 feet 7 inches high, ginger hair ; dressed in dark clothes and bard felt hat; the other, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark hair, dark whiskers, and dark moustache ; dressed in dark clothes and hard felt hat; he was booked for London; one was carrying a parcel wrapped in black glaze, the other a black leathei bag and a brown paper parcel. Information to be given to Superintendent Ackers, Police Station, Brain- tree, Essex.— Bow- street, October 20. Stolen between the 25th and 28th July last, from No. 6, Victoria- road, Penrith, by means of housebreaking ( two chisels having been used, one about J- inch, the other 1 inch wide) : an old- fashioned gold verge Watch, box and case, plain eases, seconds hand, and round pendant, an old- fashioaed large- linked gold Chain with Seals attached ; a pair of old- fashioned silver Sugar Tongs ; and a pair of German silver I'ongs ; aud a silver tea- caddy Spoon. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Fowler, Penrith, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle.— Bow- street, October 20." ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of Mr. Richard Edgley, at Market Harborough Fair, in the county of Leicester ; a gold lever Watch, gold dial, black figures, capped, number inside the back of the case 0305. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Iliffe, Constabulary Station, Market Harborough, Leicestershire.— Bow- street, October 22. Stolen from the person at Banbury Railway Station, on the evening of the 16th instant: a silver lever Watch, f- plate, jewelled in four holes, has ' Charles Burton Balsall, Temple, 1870,' engraved inside, makers W. Richardson and Son, Earlsdon, Coventry. A reward will be paid on recovery of the watch and couviction of the offender or offenders. Infor- mation to be given to Inspector Welsh, Solihull, Warwick- shire, or to Superintendent Thompson, Banbury, Oxon.— Bow- street, October 22. Stolen from the person of a gentleman at the railway station at Newmarket, on the 7th instant : a silver Geneva Watch, No. 29066, maker Etheridge, Norwich, and a silver albert Chain. Stolen on the 17th instant, from a gentleman on the , ace- course at Hereford: a large gold open- faced Chronometer Watch, No. either 2091 or 2931. £") reward will be paid on conviction and recovery of the property. Information to be given to Head Constable Dance, Hereford.— Bow- street, October 20. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. On the night of the 19th instant, a grocer and draper's r. bop at Frampton- on- Severn was broken into, and stolen therein : about 4 lbs. of Tobacco— one half Bird's- eye, and remainder fine Rag ; 1 one black cloth sac Jacket, size 12, with pockets at sides and at breast; a pair of youth's tweed Trousers, size 12, fly fronts ; a pair of shooting Boots, not uaileJ. toe- capped, size 7, with rivetted bottoms and brass screws ; two or three woollen coloured Shirts; a black aud white woollen Scarf ; two or three pairs of women's brown- coloured cotton Stockings; two or three red and white cotton Montague Mufflers; and about 7s. in Coppers from the till. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and con- viction of the offender or offenders and the recovery of the property. Stolen by housebreaking in Newcastle- on- Tyne, between • 9 p. m. 15th and 7 a. m. on the 16th iustant : a large silver Coffee Pot, very plain pattern, flat lid, and chased round near the top and bottom, aud has the letter ' L.' engraved about the centre ; two Pipes, one meerschaum, one briar root, each in a morocco leather case ; a number ot crooked 3d, 4d, and HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a field at Boyland's Oak Farm on the night of the 15th instant, the property of Mr. James Surridge, farmer, of Stapleford Abbots: a red roan cart Mare, aged, from 15 to 16 hands high, switch tail, clean legs, and in good working condition. \ Information to be given to Superintendent Simpson, Epping, or to Inspector Robinson, Police Station, Chipping Ougar, Essex.— Bow- street, October 24. Stolen during the uight of the 18th instant, from a field at the Rookery Farm, Hatton, near Shiffnal, Salop : a two- year- old Shropshire down Ewe, ' J. L.' marked on near side with ring round the letters in pitch, the property of John Lester, farmer. Also stolen ou the sam; night: a bay cob Horse, aged, 14 bands high, some white saddle marks on back, white blaze on face, broken knees ; the property of Mr. Oliver Saunders, of Acocks Green. Absconded from Saxmundham, on the 17th instant charged ( with another lean in custody) with stealing g lbs. of Stover, at the Angel Inn, Saxmundham, on the 16th> ust.: CHARLES DENNY, late of Ipswich, marine store deder or fish hawker, calls himself a tinman, about 30 years of & ret 5 feet 9 inches high, brown hair, fresh complexion, very litte whiskers, ard had twe black eyes from fighting ; dressed ii. black billycock hat, old brown coat, and tight fitting cord trousers. Information to bo given to Police Constable Burleigh, Saxmundham, Suffolk, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 24. Description of GEORGE CASS, charged with stealing a set of Harness, recovered, at Birkenhead : he is 25 to 27 years of age, about 5 feet 7-) t inches high, ).: ght complexion, slender build, long features", light hair, cut short, rather bushy whiskers aud moustache, a titter or moulder, aud has relatives iu Bury, Lancashire; he is well known in Bolton, having been in custody there for fclony, also in Manchester and adjoining towns. Absconded from Southampton, charged - with larceny : EDWARD GOODALL STRANGE, late superintendent of the Fire Brigade, 66 years of age, 5 feet 6i inches high, stout build, full face, florid complexion, grey hair, and small grey- whiskers ; dressed in blue eloth coat, vest, and trouaert, and high hat;. he is a plumber a& d may seek work ut a ship- builders yard. Information to be given to- Head Constable- Breary, Southampton, who- holds a warrant for his apprehen- sion.— Bow- street, October 24. Description of JOHN CROOK alias CROOKS, charged with stealing one Fire Potuid Bank of England Six Pounds in Gold, and two irtorins, the ppoporty ot Charles Hissard, in- the parish of Hannington, Hants: about ftft, 7 ins. high, fresh complexion, light brown hazel oyes, no whiskers, very thin face and body, and is- very uprigkt; dressed in a dark coat, with pockets on hips,. old tweed trou- sers, inendsd on both knees, skull cap, uud. soldier's boots. A tailor named SMITH, whose Christian name is sup- posed to be EDWARD, absconded from Steaford on the 29th ultimo, aud is charged, under the Bailee Act, with stealing a black cloth frock Coat, and a fancy Vest, the property of Charles Edwin Maiver. Smith is about 60 years ot age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, stout built, broad feature^ grey hair, very bald on top of head, small whiskars, walks erect, throws his feet out, is rather lame on the left, side, and carries a stick; dressed in dark clothes, black and white speckled, overcoat, stiff black billycock hat, and lace up boots. Infor- mation to be given to Sergeant Blades, Police Station, Slea- ford, Lincolnshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- streeet, October 24. Stolen at about 4 o'clock on the morning of the 22nd instant, from the dwelling- house of William Bradford, at Morton: a black and grey cloth Coat, two pockets outside and one inside left breast ; an old calico Shirt, mended across, the back ; and about 3s. in Silver and Coppers. By a tramp, 15 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, light brown hair, sallow complexion, narrow poiuted nose ; dressed in fustian trousers, holes burnt in fiout from sparks of blacksmith's shop tire, grey striped vest, old blue cloth jacket, two pockets outside, a pair of boots with eyelet holes; is wearing the stolen, boots. Calls himself JOSEPH WALLETT, " from Bourn, Essex, and talked of going to York; he may be found in a union or lodging- house. Information to be given to Super- intendent Pidgeon, Bourn, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, Oct. 24. Absconded from Leziate, near King's Lynn, oo. the 13th instant, charged with stealing £ 3 10s., the property of her father : MATILDA ADAMS, 13 years of age, looks 15, fair complexion, full round face, large blue eyes, she can read and write well ; dressed iu a light shawl, black jacket, and good boots; had with her a scarlet and black frock, a dark shawl with light fringe, a woman's dark dress, a girl's light coloured frock, and material for a girl's dress. She left King's Lynn on the 13th instant by the Midland Railway for London. Information to be given to Supeaatendent Rose, Docking, King's Lynn, Norfolk, who holds a warrant for her apprehension.— Bow- street, October 24. Further information respecting HENRY WHITE, alias alas STANLEY, charged on a warrant with Fbwl stealing at Fordington ( advertised in the Police Gazette of the 10th instant) : he has been seen iu the neighbourhood of Fisherton and Waybill, travelling in company with three female gipsies, between 17 and 20 years of age, one of whom holds a Pedlar's Certificate, issued at Weymouth. They were, driving two donkeys and a small donkey cart, and are now supposed to be in Hants or Berks. Information to be given, to Superintendent Hare, Dorset Constabulary, Dorchester, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Boio- st., Oct. 34. Description of a man who hired a Mare and Waggonette from Mr. Horlock, cab proprietor, Northampton, on the 20th instaut, and did not return them ; he is charged with steal- the same : he is about 55 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inohes high, stout build, red face, bald head, no whiskers ot> mous- tache ; dressed in dark clothes, and high black silk hat. The mare is 10 years old, 15 hands high, black, and in good condition ; the waggonette is small, red striped wheels, black body, and blue cloth cushions. Information to be given to Chief Constable Keenan, Police Office, Northampton.— Bou- street, October 24. Description of JOSEPH TURNER, alias JABEZ FRANKISH, corn miller, of Cliff, near Selby, charged with embezzlement: about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, ginger whiskers aud moustache, grey eyes, pockmarked, of smart appearanceand good address ; senerally dressed in a suit of grey tweed and billycock hat. Tas probably a large amount of money iu his possession ; hebas been engaged in corn mills iu the neighbourhood of Leels and Halifax, and may seek similar employment, or take ip an agency for corn dealers ; he is a native of Winter- ton, Ducolnshire. Description of OSCAR YOUNGMAN, a Jew, late commercial traveller in the- employ of . Mr. J. Cohen, Welling- ton- road, Birmingham, who is charged with embezzling £ 17 10s. : 24 years of age, 0 feet 3 inches high, dark brown hair ( rather straggling), slight whiskers and moustache, grey eyes, pale complexion, nese slightly turned on one side, and has marks on his lingers caused by the use of tailor's shears and needles. He l; as in - his possession two leather Cases, containing gold and silver Watches, some of ' them marked ' J. Cohen, Birmingham,' gold Chains, Brooches, Ear- rings, linger Rings, belonging to Mr, Cohen, his master ; it is supposed that he will endeavour to emigrate either to the Cape of Good Hope or America. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Glossop, Police Office, Birmingham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— How- street, October 22. Description of GEORGE PIKE, charged with stealing 30s. the monies of Mr. William Cresswell, of 48, Moor- street, Birmingham, his master : he is about 23 years of age, 5 ftet 3 or 4 inches high, rather dark complexion, dark brown hair, dark moustache, and slight whiskers ; dressed when last seen in a dark jacket, and billycock hat. Information to given to Chief Superintendent Glossop, Police Office, Birmingham, who holds a warrant for his arrest.— How- street, October 22. Stolen from a clothes line at Moss Side, at 1 p. m. on the 16th instant: one pair of man's black and white mixture cloth Trousers, fly tronts and nearly new. By a young man with light beard and hair, pale complexion, with rather sunken cheeks ; dressed iu black or dark clothes, black billycock hat, aud old shoes. Information to be given to Superintendent Bent, County Police Office, Old Trafford, uuar Manchester. — Botc- etreel, October go. • Absconded from Petnbroke, on the 15th instant, charged with - embezzling £ 28, the monies of Mr. George Llewellyn Griffiths, spirit merchant ; JOSEPH THOMAS, a uative of Pembroke Dook, a clerk, 29 years of age, about 5 feet 8 ins. high, dark browu hair, light moustache, no whiskers, large eyes, wart on back of left hand, Of smart aud respectable appearauoe, and has been iu the Army ; dressed in daik grey suit, and black soft high- crowned bowler hat. He was seen going by the mail train from Haverfordwest Station, on the 15th instant. By a man who lodged there two nights, about 40 yetu- s of age, about 5 feet 11 ius. high; dark curly hair ; dressed iu long black coat, and cap; he had a bundle with him, and was traced to Waterbeach. Charged oh a warrant with receiving 2 gold Watches : ALFRED MOST, alias HERBERT, late of 127, Cleveland- street, and 18, Wellifigtou- road, Forest- gate, 28 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair completion aud hair, whiskers and moustache shaved off; dressed iu black suit, or light tight titling trousers, aud high black hat; frequents races, aud Leadeuhall- niarkct. The watches are heavy gold Keyless hunting chronograph, fly back; seconds, enamelled dials, maker Sewell, London aud Liverpool, engraved on [ dates, No. 7334, and 7335. £^ 0 reward.- Metropolitan Police, E Division, October 22. Between 1 and 2 p. m. on the 15th instant, an assault, witfi intent to ravish, was made upon Jane Forgham, of Edstaston, in the parish of Wein : by a liian, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, light whiskers and mous- tache ; dressed in black froek coat, and jim crow hat. . He calls at public- houses, playing a piccolo and tin whistle, and says he is a clock fend watchmaker. He has t\ yo bad, teeth iu front, and his nose is somewhat peculiar. Was last seen iu London on the 16th instant. Description of two men who were committed for 21 days hard labour each, On the 20th instant, to Northallerton Gaol, for larceny : WILLIAM ANDREWS, a labourer, 25 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, fresh complexion, brown eyes, dark brown hair, cut short, dark moustache, no whiskers, round, full face ; dressed in a dark cloth short coat, dark vest, cord trousers, aud round billycock hat; states he belongs to Nqrth Cave, Suffolk. JOHN MILLS, a boilermaker, 18 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, pale complexiou, grey eyes, dark blown hain no whiskers, and rather stout built; dressed in an Old dark cloth coat, old striped fancy moleskin ivouBers, and Scotch | cap with peak; states that he beloDgs to Montague- street, Dublin. Description of GEORGE JEX, alias ROOKES, con vioted on the 20th instaut of Urceny. and sentenced to 3 month's hard labour in Derby Gaol : 39 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, black hair, grey eyes, sallow complexion, a shoe- maker by trade, and a native of Great Yarmouth.
