The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, ae accurate ae possible, of Propmtf that has beer, swien, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. No. 5410 FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 1873. Notice.— It is requested that all communication! for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending tbe same, and all application* in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. W. D. BUBNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and tbe Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor mast be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Arm/, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Fall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without bis authority. INFORMATIONS MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY- WOUNDING. Whereas, on the 5th instant and following days, various portions of the Body of a female were found iu the River Thames, at Battersea, Chelsea, Lambeth, Liraehouse, Green- wich, Blackwall, aud Woolwich. A Coroner's Inquest has been heid, aud a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown' returned. £ 2UU reward will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person who will give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers, and the Secretary of State for the Home Department will advise the grant of Her Majesty's Gracious Pardon to any accom- plice not being the person who actually committed the murder, who will give such evidence as may lead to a like result. Description of the Body: supposed about 40 years of age, stout, coarse skin, hair ( two inches long) thin aud dark, short nose ( thick and round at the extremity), dark brown eyebrows, a thin line of dark hair on upper lip, mole on right side of neck, small pale coloured mole about an inch from right nipple, large white scar on centre of chest ( probably the result of a burn in childhood), small scar ( result of boil) on right arm, scar ( two inches in diameter, from ulcer, abscess, or wound) near knee on right side, perhaps of considerable standing, and ears pierced for ear- rings. General appearance that of a healthy woman. Information to be given to Superintendent Williamson, Detective Department, Great Scotland- yard, London, S. W., or at any of the Metropolitan Police Stations.— Bow- street, September 19. FORGERY. Absconded in November last, charged with forging a Cheque for £ 400 : EDWARD J. B. McVICAR, alias E. T. GOODWIN, late of No. 314, New Cross- road, London, 23 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair, blue or grey eyes, no whiskers, moustache growing, rather thin, un- gentlemanly appearance, is addicted to drink, and has alwayB a pipe in his mouth ; was in France and Spain in November and May last, but has returned to England. He is accom- panied by his wife, whose maiden name was Maria Theresa Perwinkler, 21 years of age, dark hair, moderately tall, very quick iu her movements, and prominent front teeth. They have with them a Portmanteau, covered in white canvas, with brass nails. Information to be given at the Detective Department, Great Scotland- yard, London, S. W- Bow- street, September 17. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM O , C THE PERSON. Stolen from the person on the 2nd instant, on the race- course at Warwick, a silver lever Watch, maker T. Thompson, Cockermouth, No. 4041. Also, on the 3rd instant, a} silver hunting Watch, ' Edward Summers, Coventry,' engraved in old English on name bar, jewelled in 8 holes, date 1866. A reward will be paid on the recovery of the property and conviction of the offenders. Information to be* given to the Head Constable of Warwick.— Bow- street, September 15. Stolen from the person on the Great Western Platform, Oxford, ou the evening of the 26th ultimo : an open- faced silver keyless Watch, No. 59600. Also at same place on the 27th ultimo: an open- faced silver Watch, minute hands missing, makers Parkinson and Frodsham, Cornhill. Also at the same time and place : a gold open- faced stop Watch, maker supposed Harrison, Liverpool. Information to be given to Superintendent Head, Police Station, Oxford.— Bm- street, September 15. Stolen from a gentleman at Richmond Races, on the 2nd instant: a gold dial lever Watch, No. 1710. Information to be given to Head Constable Camfield, Richmond, Yorks. — Bow street, September 15. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between 6 and 8 p. m. on the 26th ultimo, the residence of the Rev. Carleton Greene, situate in the parish of High Wycombe, Bucks, was broken and entered during the absence of the family, and stolen therein : seven silver Tops from Dressing Case, two oblong shape, and five round, all engraved ' Jane;' an aluminium Watch, No. 17— 110 ; a small tube Latch Key, three inches in length ; and about 5s. in Silver and Copper, from a Missionary Box. Information to be given to Superintendent Sargent, County Constabulary, High Wycombe, Bucks.— Bow- street, September 19. Stolen on the 15th or 16th instant, by means of shop- breaking, in the borough of Newcastle- on- Tyne : a black cloth Coat, single- breasted, double stitched, pocket at each side, with lappets, and one inside left breast; a black shooting coat, double- breasted, pockets at sides, one inside left breast, pink sleeve lining, black satin body lining ; a pair of gold mixture tweed Trousei- s, fly front ; and double- breasted Vest, same material, blue and white striped lining ; a pair of cloth Trousers, large size, full falls, lined with grey cotton, hand sewn, cash and watch pockets, lined with drab jean ; a blue cloth Coat and Vest, both double stitched ; a pair of mole- skin Trousers ; and a pair of youth's do.'; 2i yards of super- fine black Cloth ; three Shawls— a scarlet, a blue, and a red and greea, tartan colours. Information to be given to the, Chief Constable, Newcastle- on- Tyne, Northumberland.— Bow- street, September 17. Stolen by means of housebreaking, on the 10th instant, from a cottage at St. Weonard's, Herefordshire : a pair of men's brown striped cloth Trousers, mixed with yellow thread, nearly new, brass or metal stud buttons, and one or two black bone buttons ou waistband ; a single- breasted Vest, of same material, without collar, and one button missing at the bottom ; aud an old short white Slop, patched on sleeves; the property of Edwin Powell, labourer. By two men having the appearance of tramps : one about 21 years of age, slight make, and dressed in white duck slop or jacket, cord vast, old greasy cap, and very old shoes; the other, 24 or 28 years of age, dressed in dark coat and large hard bowler i hat : they were making their way for the ironworks in South j Wales. During the night of the 5th instant, the dwelling- house of Miss Sarah Milner, of Stalbridge, Dorset, was broken into, and the following articles stolen : 1 maroon woollen rep Dress. 1 dark blue satin Dress, not made up. 1 violet serge Dress Skirt, trimmed with black velvet. 1 black coburg ditto, made with flounced skirt and tunic. 1 tweed Skirt, made with two narrow frills and two rows of black braid. 2 Nightgowns, made of twilled calico. 1 ditto, plain calico, marked ' S. Milner.' 3 or 4 pairs of white Stockings, marked ' S. M.' 1 pair of dark grey worsted knitted Stockings. 1 under Bodice. 1 red flannel Bodice. 2 Tablecloths. 1 red and black woollen Tablecloth. 1 white flannel Petticoat. 3 cotton Sheets, marked ' S. M.' or ' Milner.' 1 Pillowcase, marked ' S. M.' or ' Milner.' 1 bedroom Towel. 3 rough Towels. 2 Teacloths. 2 Chemises, 1 cloth Jacket, bound with dogskin. 4 or 5 yards of white Serge. 1 balance Knife and Fork, large size, white handles. 3 small balance Knives, white handles. 3 plated Forks. 3 Tea Spoons. 1 gold Wedding Ring, small size. 1 pair of small gold Ear- wires. 1 pair of grey yarn knitted Stockings. Information to be given to Superintendent Simpson, Police Station, Epping, or to Inspector RobinBon, Police Station, Chipping Ongar, Essex.— Brno- street. September 15. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen during the night of the 10th instant, from a field at Ronington, in the parish of Cherbury, Salop : two cross- bred ewe Sheep, ' H.' on right thigh, and a punch mark through right ear, tails supposed to be freshly trimmed. In formation to be given to Superintendent Caswell, Shrews- bury, or Sergeant Williams, Worthen, Shropshire.— Bow- street, September 15. Stolen during the night of the 11th instant, from Torrells Hall, Willingale Doe, the property of Mr. Arnold Jackson, Farmer : a red roan Cob, about 13 hands high, black legs, short tail, two or three white spots on shoulder, LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Description of WILLIAM BRIDLE, late clerk toW. Partridge, Esq., solicitor, of Tiverton, for whose apprehension a warrant has been issued, charged with embezzling several sums of Money in July last, belonging to his master : about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7J inches high, very fair com- plexion, very light sandy hair and whiskers, and shaves under the chin; generally dressed in a blue cloth jacket, with pockets outside, or a black frock coat, vest of same material, fancy trousers, black bowler or silk hat, and elastic- side boots. May probably try to g" abroad. Information to be given to Chief Constable Crabb, Tiverton, Devon, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, & pf. 19. Stolen at Alsager, on the 16th instant, from a clothes line, whilst m a wet state : a woman's print Dress, white ground with small violet sprig; anu a child's prist Frock, blue and white stripe. By a man, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, stout built, and uo whiskers ; dressed in white slop, light trousers, brown and grey stripe, light paramatta hat, and fancy duck- beak clogs. Information to be given to Superintendent Rowbottom, Middlewich, or to Sergeant Dale, Hall Green, Lawton, Cheshire.— Bow- street, September 19. Description of GEORGE BEDFORD, charged with stealing on the morning of the 12th instant, from the 1 Queen Adelaide' public- house, where he was lodging, a red morocco Purse, containing 12s. in Silver, and about 7a. in Coppers: 25 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, light hair and whiskers, has a little sandy hair on chin, aud nose a little on one side ; dressed iu a black soft felt hat, black short coat aud vest, and dark striped trousers. He is a woman's shoemaker by trade, aud carries his tools in a canvas bag, mado in the shape of a carpet bag. He is well known at Windsor and Slough, having worked there, and he has a mother residing in the Hackney- road. Information to be given to Head Constaole Pike, Police Station, St. Alban's, Herts, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 19. Description of EDWARD STAINTON, alias DICK STAINTON, who is charged with embezzling the sum of £ 2 2s. 5d., the money of the Imperial Tube Company, Bir- mingham, his masters : 23 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair, red face, slight whiskers, well built, walks slowly, and of dissipated appearance ; when last seen was dressed in a suit of grey tweed, and black felt hat. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Superintendent Glossop, Police Office, Moor- street, Birmingham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 19. Absconded from Crewe ou the 15th instant, charged with stealing an old black cloth single- breasted frock Coat, bad a red and white cotton Handkerchief iu one of the pockets ; and a Waistcoat and a pair of Trousers, since recovered : MOSES PARKES, labourer, about 35 years of age, about 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, slender build, long features, browu hair, large grey eyes, dark moustache, small tuft of hair on the end of chin ; dressed in the stolen coat, with a grey one under, old light cloth waistcoat, veiy dirty moleskin trousers, cloth cap with large top, and old Wellington boots. Information to be given to Superintendent Laxton, Nantwich, or to Inspector Morris, Police Office Crewe.— Bow- street, September 19. Description of CLARA TUTTON, charged with breaking open a small box, and stealing therein: a Sovereign; a Half Sovereign ; three Shillings ; aud one Half Crown, the monies of John Harris, of Milverton, in the county of Somerset, on the 16th instant: she is about 19 years of age, 5 feet high, fair complexion, dark hair, with a large plait of false hair on the back of her head ; dressed in a light stuff dress, dark grey waterproof cloak, high black straw hat, with a small red rose in front; has worked 2 years in a lace factory at Newton Poppler, in Devonshire. Information to be giveu to Superintendent Ross, County Constabulary, Wiveliscombe, Somerset, or to Sergeant Talbott, Milverton, whc holds a warraut for her apprehension.— Bow- street, September 19. Absconded from High Wycombe, on the 6th instant, charged with stealing two boxes of Sultana Raisins ( since recovered) : CHARLES YOUNG, a tailor, about 43 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, stout figure, brown hair, slightly curled, whiskers ou chin, small moustache, aud pale face ; dressed in a soiled drab coat, with cross pockets and flaps, drab twill trousers, tweed hat, hard brim, with soft quartered crown. Stated he came from Bath or Bristol. £ 1 reward will be paid by the High Wycombe Association on his con- viction. Information to be given to Superintendent Davis, Police Station, High Wycombe, Bucks, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 17. Yh Tottenham, about 40 years ofage, 5 feet 4 inches ROBINS, joiner, who three weeks, absconded on the day of the robbery, 28 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, light brown hair, is darker behind the head, sandy moustache, and tuft on chin, one tooth missing in front of upper jaw, rather stout., walks very erect, ami has the appearance of a soldier; he was wearing the stolen coat, waistcoat, and hat, and had on a pair of blucher shoes. He told one of his fellow workmen that he was going to Liver- pool, a few days previous to his departure. Information to be giver to Superintendent Rowbottom, Middlewicb, or to Inspector Hindley, Police Station, Northwich, Cheshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 17. Further information respecting GEORGE WILSON, charged on a warraut with embezzlemerft, aud described in Police Gazette of the 13th January last, has- been seen recently at Southampton and Beverley, and is now supposed to be attending race meetings ; and when last seen had allowed his whiskers to grow. Information to be given to Inspector Moores, London, Chatham and Dover Railway Company, Victoria Station, or to Superintendent Sanders, Police Station, Dover, who holds a warrant for his apprehen- sion.— Bow- street, September 15. Absconded from Haslington on the 11th instant, charged with stealing .£ 14 in Gold, the property of James Rowledge : JOSEPH DUTTON, lately employed as a puddler at the iron works, Wheelock, Cheshire, a native of Bilston, Stafford- shire, about 22 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, stout build, fair complexion, brown hair, dark eyes, boil mark underneath each, no whiskers or moustache, turns his right foot in a little, and is bow- legged in right; dressed in a black cloth jacket bound with braid, striped vest, new moleskin trousers with seam down outside each leg, hard bowler hat, elastic- side boots ( stiffning at each heel down), plaid shirt, and magenta and white muffler ( the magenta is washed into the white) twice round his neck. He is supposed to have gone to Darlington, Durham. Information to be given to Superintendent Laxton, Nantwich, or to Inspector Morris, Police Station, Crewe, Cheshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 15. Description of GEORGE WESTOVER, charged with embezzlement at Sittingbourne on the 8th instant : he is a native of Lenham, Kent, 19 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark brown hair, fair complexion, hazel eyes, and long face ; dressed in black felt hat and a suit of black mixture cloth ; has been employed by Mr. Nichols as a photographer. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Mayne, Police Court, Sittiugbourne, Kent, who holds a warrant for his apprehen- sioh.— / Iintr-* treet, September 15. Absconded from Windsor about the 29th ultimo, charged with embezzlement; ROBERT ING, a butcher, about 28 years of age, about 5 feet 2 inches high, brown hair, fresh complexion, rather stout build, well known at Aldershot and the surrounding neighbourhood. Information to be given to Superintendent Hayes, Windsor, Berks, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 15. Absconded from Windsor about the 28th ultimo, JOHN PARSONS aud his wife, charged with felony. Parsons was discharged from the 3rd Battalion Grenadier Guards on the 27th ultimo at Windsor : he is about 6 feet high, 29 years of age, fair complexion, no whiskers, slight moustache ; his wife's name is Emma. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Hayes, Windsor, Berks, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- street, September 15. Stolen from a farm- house at Rumworth, near Bolton, Lancashire, on the night of the 8th or morning of the 9th instant, the following property : 1 black and white tweed Coat, large size, grey horn buttons, two pockets inside ancl two outside left breast 1 Vest of same material and buttons. 1 black cloth Vest. 2 old flannel Singlets. 1 pair of quarter Boots, iron tips on heels, stitched • soles, lace- up fronts, ami nailed with steel tacks. 1 pair of lace- Up Boots, fancy fronts, pegged bottoms, newly soled and heeled. And 8s. in Money. By a farm labourer, who had lived in the house about a fort- night, anil alwcondwl on the 9th instant. He gave the naihe of JAMES THOMPSON, and said he came from Harwood Leigh ; is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, full face, sunburnt, bushy whiskers, dark hair, and stoutly built; dressed when he left in blue pilot swinger coat, brown vest, ribbed fustian trousers, and cap with peak. Information to be given to the Superintendent at the County Police Office, Town Hall, Little Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, Sept. 15. street, September 17. MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATIONS. Description of a man who gives the name of JOHN scar under right eye ; dressed in a stiff round black felt hat, with ventilator on top, single- breasted black pilot overcoat, twwftd with braid, black velvet collar and pooketS at si# es, iuid one inside left breast, rusty biowu ribbed cloth coat, with siae fiocfttets sewn up and one ontside left breast, tfo Vest, FELONIES. ( Not otherwise described). On the night of the 11th instant, between 7 p. m. on the 11th and 6 a » m. on the 12th instant, some person or persons broke into the parish church at Dorchester, Oxon, and stole therefrom about 13s. in Gold and Silver, from a small Box. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Fernsby, to Inspector Yates, County Police Station, Oxford; or to Sergeant Wyatt, Dorchester, Oxon.— Bow- street, September 15. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Description of FRANCIS HARLEY, charged with fraud: he is about 32 yeaw of age, about 5 feet 4 inches and tips on heels, black and red check woollen scarf, and white cotton shirt. States he was born in Dublin, and has been living there until 7 weeks ago, when he came to England, leaving a wife and two children residing in Connor- street, Dublin. Information to be given to Head Constable Turrall, Borough Police Office, Cambridge. — Bow- street, September 19. Missing from his home at Riverhead, in the parish of Sevenoaks, Kent, since the 9th instant : MATHEW COTTRELL, a tailor, 59 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, thick set, fair complexion, lull light blue eyeo, grey hair, long and thin, grev whiskers meeting under chin, has no teeth, left leg paralized, and walks with one crutch and a walking stick ; dressed when last seen in new grev mixture cloth trousers, black frock coat and vest, opened in front, and black silk hat. He left Denton Green Railway Station, South Eastern Railway for Loudon, on the 9th instant, to pay some bills, and has not since been heard of, and it is feared some ill has befallen him. Information to be given to Superinten- dent O'Kill, Police Court, Sevenoaks, Kent. Bow- street, September 19. Description of HENRY JOHNSON, alias FREDK. W. BAKER, committed to Maidstone Gaol for 4 month's hard labour, for larceny at Sandhurst, on the 16th instant: he is 20 years of age, 5 feet 6£ inches high, fair complexion, sandy hair, blue eyes, full face, and large nosft; dressed in cheesecutter cap, blue navy trousers, and grey merino shirt.
