Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. O. %• Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offenoe charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. Description of a man who obtained from an inkeeper at Nantwich, Cheshire, the sum of 25s., ou the 4th instant, by uttering a forged post office order, purportingl to have been for the sum of £ 5 Is. obtained at Boughton, Chester, and payable at Crewe, Cheshire, the order being only for Is. the £ 5 having been afterwards added : he is about 30 years of age, medium height and build, rather sandy or fresh com- plexion, slight whiskers, and wears a billycock. hat, but varies other parts of his dress ; has the appearance of a groom, or gentlemans servant, and is supposed to be an Irishman. No doubt he is the same man as advertised in several Gazettes for the same offence. Police will please warn publicans and others, as he is going about the county taking in publicans, and more specially on market or fair days. Stolen from the person of a gentleman in Hastings, on the 9th instant : an English lever silver hunting Watch, jewelled in 8 holes, maker Powell, a vulcanite Chain, with small gold compass locket attached. By a prostitute, dark complexion, dressed in blue clothing. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Glenister, Hastings.— Bow- street, September 12. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. During the night of the 5th instant, the dwelling- house of Miss Sarah Milner, of Stalbridge, Dorset, was broken into, and the following articles stolen : 1 maroon woollen rep Dress. 1 dark blue satin Dress, not made up. 1 violet serge Dress Skirt, trimmed with black velvet. 1 black coburg ditto, made with flounced skirt and tunic. 1 tweed Skirt, made with two narrow frills and two rows of black braid. 2 Nightgowns, made of twilled calico. 1 ditto, plain calico, marked ' S. Milner.' 3 or 4 pairs of white Stockiugs, marked ' S. M.' 1 pair of dark grey worsted knitted Stockings. 1 under Bodice. 1 red flannel Bodice. 2 Tablecloths. 1 red and black woollen Tablecloth. 1 white flannel Petticoat. 3 cotton Sheets, marked ' S. M.' or ' Milner.' 1 Pillowcase, marked ' S. M.' or ' Milner.' 1 bedroom Towel. 3 rough Towels. 2 Teacloths. 2 Chemises, 1 cloth Jacket, bound with dogskin. 4 or 5 yards of white Serge. 1 balance Knife and Fork, large size, white handles. 3 small balance Knives, white handles. 3 plated Forks. 3 Tea Spoons. 1 gold Wedding Ring, Bmall size. 1 pair of small gold Ear- wires. 1 pair of grey yarn knitted Stockings. A small quantity of brown Holland. A small quantity of Scotch Wool. Information to be given to Superintendent Lavender, Stur- minster Newton, Dorsetshire.— Bow- street, September 12. Stolen by means of housebreaking, in the borough of Newcastle- on- Tyne, on the 5th instant: a gold Bracelet, set with large carbuncle and ornamental band ; a gold Necklet, with carbuncle and small gold chain ; a gold Brooch, with carbuncle and pendant ; a gold Brooch, with aquamarine stones ; a gold Snuff box ; a gold Chain, with small links ; a gold Ring, with hair setting ; a gold Ring, ruby or garnet ; a gold Ring, very old, hair in centre, and engraved ' William Sherrington, aged 23,' large oval centre; and a sealskin Mantle, 30 inches in length, best quality. Information to be given to Chief Constable Nicholls, Newcastle- on- Tyne.— Bow- street, September 10. Stolen in Cambridge, during the night of the 5th inst., by means of housebreaking : two Coats ; one of them is a rather old long brown cloth Overcoat, double- breasted, with only two pockets, one on each hip without flaps, with black velvet collar, to fit a man 5 feet 10 inches high ; the other is a grey cloth Jacket- coat, double- breasted, with two slits behind, to fit the same man. Supposed to have been stolen by a small man or youth ( a tramp), as an old dark small coat was left behind in the house. Information to be given to Head Constable Turrall, Borough Police Station, Cambridge. — Bow- street, September 8. Description of EDWARD HARRIS, charged with burglariously breaking into the dwelling- house of Thomas Smith, of Sevenoaks, Kent, on the 2nd instant, and stealing therein : 10s. in Money ; a silver Geneva Watch, No. 1168 ; a gold albert Chain and Key attached ; a nearly new pair of thin lace- up Boots, no nails or tips, man's size : he is 20 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fresh complexion, grey eyes, carrotty hair, cut short, no whiskers, rather long broad nose, with dent in tip, one eye looks red, right eyelid slightly droops, rather long neck, follows labouring work, and has been in the Royal Artillery about 18 mouths, discharged 9th November, 1872 ; dressed in light cord trousers, old dark monkey ( jacket, black billycock hat, and lace- up boots; is fond of singing in public- houses. Information to be given to Superintendent O'Kill, Police Court, Sevenoaks, Kent Bow- street, September 8. Between 12 noon, and 9' 30 p. m. on the 1st instant, the dwelling house of Miss Elizabeth Clapham, of Halton, in the township of Templenewsam, in the West Riding of Yorkshire, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therein : 33 silver Spoons— fifteen Tea, five Table, thirteen Dessert, all marked' C.'; a pair of silver sugar Tongs, marked ' W. A. C.'; a silver Cream Jug, marked ' C.'; 6 electro plated Forks ; and a plain Eyeglass. Information to be given to Superintendent Pollard, West Riding Constabulary, Leeds. Bow- stret, September 5. The dwelling- house of Thomas Bevan, Gwarhenallt, in the parish of Llandewi cwm, Breconshire, was broken into sometime between 11 a. m. and 5 p. m. on the 1st instant, and the following articles stolen therein : a home- made grey cloth Jacket, with pockets in skirts outside ; a black cloth Waist- coat, with small collar ; a pair of light woollen cord Trousers, worn and darned with white thread on left leg ; a pair cf black and white speckled woollen Stockings; a pair of blue Stockings, newly footed, and worn by a club footed person ; a brown cloth Overcoat, man's size ; a black and white plaid woollen scarf Shawl; a pair of black and white speckled woollen Stockings, for a child 14 years of age. Supposed by tramps. Information to be given to Sergeant Flye, Police Station, Builth, or to Superintendent Price, Brecon.— Bow- st, September 3. During the night of the 29th ultimo, or morning of the 30th, the premises of Mr. J. Robinson, publican, of Bamford, was entered, and the following property stolen therein : about £ 17 in Gold, Silver, and Copper, 3 boxes of Cigars, a grey cloth jacket, a black alpaca Umbrella, and an old- fashioned silver Watch, No. 371, makers name Andrew Crawshaw, Rotherham. Information to be given to Superintendent Hudson, Chapel- en- le- Frith, Derby.— Bow- street, September 3. Remanded at Hammersmith, charged with horae stealing, two men : one, CHARLES BRAZIER, Devonshire- road, Chiswick, 32 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair and whiskers all round chin ; dressed in light tweed coat, light cord tight- fitting trousers, black neckerchief, lace boots, light scull cap ; convicted of horse stealing at Bedford in July, 1866 ; the other, BENJN. BLOZZARD, Elizabeth- buildings, Chiswick, 28 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, stout full face, Ballow complexion, dark brown hair, no whiskers ; dressed in a cord jacket, fustian back and sleeves, daik cord tight- fitting trousers, black billy- cock hat, heavy lace boots ; both have the appearance of horse copers Metropolitan Police, T Division, September 3. Stolen from a field at Oaken Gates, Salop, on the night of the 29th ultimo, the property of Mr. Thomas Richards: an aged milking Cow, red body, white under belly, white speck between the horns, long ragged wart on left fore teat, bow horns, and in low condition. Information to be given to Chief Superintendont Richardson, Wellington, or to Sergeant Merricks, Oaken Gates, Salop.— Bow- street, Sept 3. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen, supposed by gipsies, from a field at Measbro Dyke, near Barnsley, York, on the night of the 8th instant : a bay entire Shetland Pony, 12£ hands high, black legs, long tail, and bushy mane, unshod, and 2 years old, believed to have a snip on right ear. Information to be given to Super- intendent Sykes, West Riding Constabulary, Barnsley, York. — Bow- street, September 12. Stolen from a field at Ravensden, on the night of the 8th instant : a valuable dark chestnut Mare, thorough bred, about 16 hands high, aged, white blaze down the face, tail cut short, no shoes on, and in fair condition, the property of Mr. Wormsley, of Rugby. Information to be given to Superintendent Kennedy, County Police Station, Bedford, Beds. — Bow- street, September 12. Stolen from a field at Walsall Wood, on the night of the 8th instant: a dark brown Mare, has a star on the forehead, and a white mark on off side of neck, 5 years old, 15 hands high. £ 2 reward will be paid for the recovery of the Mare, and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Hill, Brownhills, near Walsall, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, September 10. Stolen during the night of the 28th ultimo, from a stable at Deepfields, Coseley : a bay mare Pony, 14 hands high, aged, a white streak down the face, the near fore foot white, the near hind leg swoollen, long black tail, and in good con- dition ; the property of Charles Coultley. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent McCrea, Police Office, Bilston, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, September 8. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Description of JAMES STANTON, late of Hastings, for whom a warrant has been issued, charged with embezzling the sum of £ 16, the monies of his master, William Goodman Porter, on the 5th instant: he is 20 years of age, 5 feet 3 or inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair, and proportionate figure, has the appearance of a costermonger ; dressed when he absconded in a snuff brown overcoat, fitting tight, grey cloth trousers, and hard black felt hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Jenner, Battle, or at the Chief Con- stables Office, Lewes ; all reasonable expensex will be paid on his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 12. Stolen on the 22nd ultimo, from the cottage of James Belberstone, at Trumpington, adjoining Cambridge, a Suit of Clothes and a Paisley Shawl ( since recovered), and a snake- pattern imitation gold Brooch : by a woman, of respectable appearance, about 22 years of age, 5 feet high, ruddy com- plexion, and rather stout; wort light or drab clothing and bonnet. Information to be given to the Deputy Chief Con- stable, Chesterton- road, Cambridge.— Bow- street, Sept. 12. Absconded from Buckingham, charged with stealing a Fagging Hook ( recovered) : RICHARD SMITH, alias GIPSY DICK, about 60 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, hair turning grey ; dressed in dark jacket and vest, cord trousers, and straw hat ; is well known throughout BuckB and the adjoining counties. Stolen on the 3rd instant, | from the Cup Inn, Castle- street, Warwick, the following articles : 1 silver double back lever Watch, No. 3681. 1 lady's gold Geneva Watch with silver dial, tarnished 1 jet Chain. 1 gold Albert Chain, with Seal attached, cornelian stone, engraved ' J. B.' 1 lady's gold neck Chain, filigree work. 2 gold Brooches, one is round, set with pearls and amethyst stone in centre; the other has filigree work, with emerald centre. 1 lady's gold Chain, secret links. 1 hair Bracelet, with portrait, mounted in gold 2 pairs of jet Ear- rings. 2 ditto of gold Ear- rings. 1 gold wedding Ring and Keeper. 3 gold finger Rings, two are set with rubies, and the other has a white s'one. 2 gold Lockets, one with hair. 1 silver Pencil- case. 1 gold mourning Ring, with name and date engraved. 2 silver Tea Spoons marked ' S. B.' 1 ditto Dessert Spoon, with crest. By a man who lodged iu the house for a few nights of the following description : about 35 years of age, about 5 ft. 5 ins. high, a very squeaking voice, like a woman, thick red neck, thin, light hair, and no whisker ; dressed in a suit of black, the jacket was bound round the edges and pockets outside, double- breasted vest, black necktie, bill hat, and round gold studs iu shirt front. A reward will be paid on the recovery- of the propeity and conviction of the offender. Information to be given to Head Constable Hickling, Warwick.— Bow- street, September 12. Stolen from the Swann Inn, Clewer, between the 4th and 6th instant : a tweed Jacket and Vest, which has been found pledged. By CHARLES HENRY TAYLOR, about 25 or 26 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, rather dark complexion, light brown hair ; dressed in dark cloth coat, light striped vest and trousers, high soft felt hat, and lace- up boots ; he is a groom or helper in stables; his relatives reside near Froxfield, Wilts. Information to be given to Sergeant Tanner, County Police Station, Clewer, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 10. Stolen from the Ship Inn, Bourne- street, Hastings, on the 6th iDstant : a dark tweed mixture Coat, with pockets on hips, one breast pocket, black alpaca lining, and black bone buttons, value £ 2. By a man, about 40 or 45 years of age, 5 feat 4 or 5 inches high, dark complexion, black whiskers and moustache ; dressed in dark clothes, and cloth cap, with french peak. Description of FREDERICK SCULL, charged on a warrant with obtaining £ 2 10s. by false pretences from Messrs. B. and W. Eennett, stonemasons, Brighton, on the 26th ultimo : he is 26 years of age, 6 feet 8 inches high, slight build, walks very upright and quick, dark eyes, thin pointed nose, dark brown hair cut short, very pale com- pluxion, looks ill aud harassed; dressed iu dark tweed trousers, grey tweed coat, imi. ation astracan waistcoat, and felt wideawake hat ; lie is very fond of races. Supposed to have comu direct from Leicester; his friends live at Rich- mond, Surrey ; he applied for work as a mason. Absconded from her bail, charged with unlawful possession : ELIZABETH BROWN, 29 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, swarthy complexion, brown hair aud eyes; dressed in a brown stuff dress, black shawl and bonnet, all old and dirty. Warrant issued.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, September 12. Description of a man and woman in custody at Dartford Station under remand until the 13th instant, on several charges of stealing from the person at Dartford on the 6th instant, and who came from London that day : the man gave the name of GEORGE FORDOM, supposed fictitious, about 38 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, light brown hair, sandy moustache and whiskers, shaved on chin, grey eyes, and rather long nose; dressed in light cloth trousers and double- breasted vest, black cloth coat, pockets on hips, and bound with black braid, new black silk hat, thin light- csloured overcoat, side- spring boots, and light flannel striped shirt; the woman gives the name of MARY ANN JONES, alias STONE, supposed fictitious, about 38years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, black hair and eyebrows, dark complexion, and has a great deal of hair on the upper lip and sides of face ; dressed in black skirt with flounces, half- mourning petticoat with several flounces and braid, black bonnet with several large white flowers, short black cape, and has with her a black thin cloak with tassels at back ; both refuse their address. Description of JOHN McGUIRE, alias SMITH, who was committed for 2 months hard labour, to Northallerton Gaol, ou the 9th instant, for larceny, at Lofthouse, on the 31st ultimo : he is 25 years of age, 5 feet 7f inches high, dark complexion, black hair, dark moustache, hazel eyes, aud slender build ; he is a labourer and has served in the Hartlepool Militia, and h; s a military appearance ; dressed in an old dark cloth coat, fustian trousers and vest, and old lace- up boots. The following pawn tickets were found in his possession : one for a pair of Trousers, pawned June 19tb, 1873, for os., with John Tweddell, of 22 and 24, Northgate- street, Hartlepool, in the name of Julia Seymour, of John- street; another for a Shirt, pawned July 21st, for Is. 6d., by Ann Russell, of St. Helen's- street, at the same place ; another for a pair of Trousers, pawned 9th August, for 2s. 6d., in the name of Mary Gamin, with James Pottinger, of John- street, Northgate- street, Hartlepool. Absconded from Buntingford on the 29th ultim<\ charged with stealing a quantity of Cart Harness ( since recovered) : WILLIAM ANTHONY, 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, spots 011 nose aud face, whiskers and moustache, two anchors tattooed ou right arm, ami star and anchor tattooed on left arm ; dressed iu cord trousers, cord jacket with fustian bufk, lace- up boots, dark cap with peak, walks upright, has been iu the army ; supposed to have a young woman with him, 17 years of age; dressed in a brown linsey dress, straw hat trimmed with slate- colour ribbon. Stolen from a dwelling- house in the city of Lincoln, on the 4th instaut : a silver Watch and gold Chain ( since recovered) : by a man ( supposed to be a foreigner), who obtained lodgings in the house, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark complexion, aud short stubby beard; dressed in a dark blue pilot jacket, blue cloth trousers, straw hat covered with oilcloth, aud side- spring boots nearly new, He is supposed to have booked for London, per the Great Northern Railway, the same day. Absconded from Bungay, on the 3rd instant, charged with larceny : WILLIAM, alias FRETT WARD, a fish- hawker, 28 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, light brown hair, cut short, swarthy complexion, slightly pock pitted, square shoulders, aud stout build ; dressed iu a blue guernsey, long waistcoat, with drab sleeves and back, light cord tight- fitting trousers, lace- up shoes, and black liairy cap or wideawake. Had with him a light chestnut Horse, with white face, and Fish Cart, with wheels painted red.
