BG AUTFORITB, CONTAINING The iukftaiite of all Informations received in eases of Felony and of Misdemeanors of * n aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputed Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Names of Persons charged witi Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearan d Dre* s, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possible, of Property that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. No. 5404 FRIDAY, SEPTEMRER 5, 1873. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the. Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, aB well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Further information respecting the attack made by a gang of poachers on the gamekeepers at Wistow, in the I county of Leicester, when Thomas Monk was murdered, and the other keepers seriously beaten and injured, as advertised in the Police Gazette of the 11th instant. The following are the names and description of the men charged with the offence, and who absconded on the day of the murder : JOHN LEWIN, alias DIDLUM TAYLOR, shoe finisher, a native of Leicester, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light brown hair, no whiskers, grey eyes, paid complexion, slight make, thin face, and scar of cut over left eye; usually dressed in dark clothing and black billycock hat, and wore when he went away very heavy- nailed boots. HENRY DUDLEY, shoe finisher, a native of Burbage, in the county of Leicester, though lately residing in Leicester, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light com- plexion, and has a light moustache ; usually dressed in dark clothing and black billycock hat. ROBERT MANSHIP, shoe finisher or nailor, native of Leicester, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, sallow complexion, grey eyes, no whiskers, brown hair, round face, full mouth, turn- up nose, and middle make; usually dressed in dark clothing and black billycock hat. FRANCIS WRIGHT, alias FLASH FRANK, cordwainer ( lately worked at the shoe- finishing), a native of Leicester,; about 42 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, brown hair, i whiskers shaved off, hazel eyes, sallow complexion, rather long visage, middle make, scar of cut on knuckle of left thumb ; usually dressed in long black cloth surtout coat, cord trousers, black billycock hat, and wears a white apron round his waist. ,£ 50 reward will be paid by Her Majesty's Government, and _£ 50 by Sir Henry St. John Halford, Bart., to any person giving such information and evidence as shall lead to the, apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders ; and the Secretary of State for the Home Department will advise the grant of Her Majesty's most gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being the actual murderer, who will give such information as shall lead to a like result. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Constabulary Office, Leicester, or at any of the Constabulary Stations in the county of Leicester.— Bow- street, August 22. FORGERY. Absconded from Thirsk on the 19th instant, charged with obtaining ill from an innkeeper on the 18th instant by uttering a forged Post- office Order, purporting to have been for the sum of £ 5 Is. 6d. obtained at Portrack- lane Post- office, Stockton- on- Tees, and payable at Thirsk Post- office, the order being only for Is. 6d., the £ 5 having beeu after- wards added : a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, light hair, small sandy whiskers, thin face, and fresh looking ; dressed in a brown overcoat, pockets outside, and much too large for him, black and white plaid trousers, shabby shoes, round black felt hat; ha spoke with an Irish accent, had the appearance of a groom, and stated that he had been to Stockton Races and that he had two horses at the railway station, which he was going to take to York. The same ii obtained a Post- office Order at Hovingham Post- office i. u the 19th instaut, payable at York, for Is. 6d. he is now suppossd to be in the East Riding. Information to be given to Superintendent Walker, Kent Constabulary, Police Station, Canterbury, or to Sergeant Kewell, Heme, near Canterbury.— Bow- street, September 1. Stolen on the 28th ultimo, from the person of a gentle- man, at the Great Western Railway Station, Reading : a gold hunting Watch, f- plate Chronometer, enamelled dial, maker— Frodsham, No. 7647. Information to be given to Superintendent Purchase, Borough Police Station, Reading, Berkshire.— Bow- street, September 1. Stolen from the person on the 28th ultimo, at the Railway Station, Beverley : two gold Watches— one an English hunting lever, No. 574, engraved on inside, ' London,' also ' T. Dyson, Beverley, 1823 ;' the other, an English lever, gold dial, with bright figures, small flower engraved on back of case. Information to be given to Superintendent Knight, Beverley, Yorkshire.— Dow- street, Septeniber 1. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, at Preston, on the 27th ultimo : a brown leather Portemonnaie, containing a £ 20 Note, a £ 10, and 3 or 4 £ 5, all Bank of England Notes, one of them was endorsed on the back ; also about £ 30 iu Gold— Sovereigns and Half- Sovereigns; a Queen Ann Guinea ; a George the Third Half Guinea ; and some Silver— amongst the Silver several Lion Shillings, and two Lion Sixpences ; several Postage Stamps ; a Promissory Note : and an I. O. U. for £ 7, very far worn. By a woman, tall and stout, good looking, about 26 years of age ; dressed iw a grey shawl. Information to be given to Chief Constable Oglethorpe, Borough Police Station, Preston, Lancashire. — Bow- street, September 1. BURGLARY AND HOUS£ BREAKING. Between 12 noon, and 9- 30 p. m. on the 1st instant, the dwelling house of Miss Elizabeth Clapham, of Halton, in the township of Templenewsam, iu the West Riding of Yorkshire, was broken aud entered, and the following property stolen therein : 33 silver Spoons— fifteen Tea, five Table, thirteen Dessert, all marked ' C.'; a pair of silver sugar Tongs, marked ' W. A. C.'; a silver Cream Jug, marked ' C.'; 6 electro plated Forks ; aud a plain Eyeglass. Information to be given to Superintendent Pollard, West Riding Constabulary, Leeds. — Bow- stret, September 5. BOBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person at Heme Bay Regatta, on the 27th ultimo: a gold lever Watch, with white face and The dwelling- house of Thomas Bevan, Gwarheuallt, in the parish of Llaudewi cwm, Breconshire, was broken into sometime between 11 a. m. aud 5 p. m. on the 1st instaut, and the following articles stolen therein : a home- made grey cloth Jacket, with pockets in skirts outside ; a black cloth Waist- coat, with small collar ; a pair of light woollen cord Trousers, worn aud darned with white thread on left leg ; a pair if black and white speckled woollen Stockings ; a pair of blue Stockings, newly footed, aud worn by a club footed person ; a brown cloth Overcoat, man's size ; a black aud white plaid woollen scarf Shawl ; a pair of black aud white speckled woollen Stockings, for a child 14 years of age. During the night of the 29th ultimo, or morning of the 30th, the premises of Mr. J. Robinson, publicau, of Bamford, was entered, and the following property stoleu therein : about £ 17 iu Gold, Silver, and Copper, 3 boxes of Cigars, a grey cloth jacket, a black alpaca Umbrella, aud an old fashioned | silver Watch, No. 371, makers name Andrew Crawshaw, Rotherham. Information to be given to Superintendent Hudson, Chapel- en- le- Frith, Derby.— Bow- street, September 3. Between 8 a. m. and 5 p. m. the 28th ultimo, the dwelling- house of Edward Deakins, labourer, Hopton, near Stafford, was broken and entered, and stolen therefrom : 1 black cloth . Jacket, lined with black and white plaid. 1 double- breasted black cloth Vest. 1 pair of black cloth Trousers, all nearly new. 1 box Hat and a black billycock Hat 1 pair of lace- up Boots, partly worn. Also 1 black cloth Jacket and Vest, nearly new. 1 pair of brown cloth Trousers and Vest, mingled with white spots. 1 dark brown reefer Coat with black velvet collar. Supposed by 2 tramps, who were seen near the house begging. One is about 5 feet 8 inches high, sandy whiskers ; dressed iu brown jacket and cap. The other is about 5 feet 6 iuches high ; dressed in dark clothes and black billycock hat. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Disney, Forebridge, Stafford.— Bow- street, September 1. Between 9 a. m. and 6 p. m. on the 23rd ultimo, the dwelling- house of Thomas Hubbard, of Tunstall, iu the parish of Adbaston, was broken and entered, aud the following property stolen therein : a black cloth Coat, nearly new, with flap pockets on hips, pocket iuside left breast, iud striped print linen in sleeves ; a double- breasted light grey tweed vest, with dark lines running through it, about J- iuch apart, having two buttons on the inside of left front, and closed with three buttons outside ; a suuff- coloured pair of Trousers, fly fronts, a dark stripe down the sides, two side pockets, formed in a direct line from the fore brace button to the hip ; a puce and green- coloured plaid dress, woman's size; a large bundle Handkerchief, with blue border, aud shawl pattern centre; aud a plain gold Ring. Supposed by tramps. Information to be given to Superintendent Crisp Stone, or to Sergeant Blakeley, Eccleshall, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, September 1. Between 12 p. m. 28th and 6 a. m. on the 39th ultimo, a back kitchen attached to the dwelling- house of Mr. John Burroughs, of Jackfield, Salop, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a pair of men's elastic- aide Boots, nearly new, toe- capped and imitation lace- up fronts; and two old odd elastic- side Boots, men's, one for right foot recently soled and heeled, four rows of sprigs in centre of forepart and two round outside, toe- capped, the other for left foot, toe- capped, has been clumped, and is much worn. A man of the follow- ing description is suspected : 35 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, walks erect, light brown hair, turning grey, sandy whiskers and moustache ; dressed in a dirty white slop or a blue ribbed cloth jacket, with spots of gas tar on it, old grey cloth trousers, dark cloth vest, with round white spots on it, and old jimcrow hat. He has served 9 years in the Scots Fusilier Guards, and was discharged as an incorrigible and bad character. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Ivins, Bridgnorth, or to Sergeant Thomas, Much Wen- lock, Salop.— Bow- street, September 1. Between 9" 15 p. m. aud 10* 55 p. m., on the 28th ultimo, the dwelling- house of Isaac Moore, grocer, at Hagerley Dean, Bucks, was broken aud entered, no property being stolen. Supposed by a man of the following description, who was seen near the premises on the night iu question : 19 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, light brown hair and small moustache, pale complexion, very slender figure ; dressed in a dark cloth coat and vest, mixture trousers, black felt hat, aud light boots. Information to be given to Inspector Ray, Police Court, Beaconsfield, Bucks.— Bow- street, September 1. During the afternoon of the 29th ultimo, a dwelling- house at Skipton was broken and entered, and the following articles stoleu : a long gold Guard, uniform oblong links ; a gold Ring, set with several green stones and a pearl in centre; two silver Tea Spoons, marked ' J. M. B.': six silver Tea Spoons, marked ' B'; five silver Tea and three or four Table Spoons, old- fashioned flowered patterns; one pair of silver Sugar Tongs ; three half Sovereigns; and abuot Twenty Shillings iu silver. £ 20 reward will be paid to any one giving such information that shall lead to the recovery of of the property and conviction of the offender or offenders. Remanded at Hammersmith, charged with horse stealing, two men : one, CHARLES BRAZIER, Devonshire- road, Chiswick, 32 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair aud whiskers all round chin ; dressed in light tweed coat, light cord tight- fitting trousers, black neckerchief, lace boots, light scull cap ; convicted of horse stealing at Bedford in July, 1866 ; the other, BENJN. BLOZZARD, Elizabeth- buildings, Chiswick, 28 years of age, 5 feet U inches high, stout full face, sallow complexion, dark browu hair, no whiskers ; dressed iu a cord jacket, fustian back aud sleeves, dai k cold tight- fitting trousers, black billy- cock hat, heavy lace l> oots ; both have the appearance of horse copers.— Metropolitan Bo-' ice, T Division, September 3. Stolen during the night of the 28th ultimo, from a meadow iu the parish of Brasted, near Seveuoake, Kent, the property of Mr. Wm. Wells, farmer : a dark chesnut Mare ( light), 4 years old, 15 hands 1 iuch high, long light mane and tail, blaze down face, iu good couditiou. Information to be given to Superintendent O'Kill, Police Court, Sevenoaks, Kent.— Bow- street, September 1. Stolen on or about the 13th ultimo : thirteen white- faced Irish Sheep, chiefly wether, marked ' O.' on the right side, a portion of them may also have other pitch marks upon them, the marks of previous owners, the whole have been trimmed iih shears; the property of Mr. Wm. Baker, of Dunley, near Stourport. Also stoleu about the same time, from Stourport : " eight grey- faced Lambs, the property of Mr. John Cook, butcher, of Stourport. By a man who lodged in the houses stated his name- was THOMAS LAWSON, a native of Burnley, Lancashire, about 28 j eais of age, 5 feet 8 iucbes higli, light brown hair, no whiskers, small moustache, and tuft of hair on chin, lost all frout tueth, except one, two bands and some figures above tattooed oil left wrist; dressed in a, n old browu cloth coat, blue serge shirt, dirty fearnought trousers, brown hat, and lace boots ; coloured bundle Handkerchief ; and a pair of lace- up Boots, nearly new ; all men's size. By a man of the following description, who lodged with Finn, 26 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, very dark complexion, dark eyes, black | hair and moustache, and slender figure ; supposed to be wearing part of the stolen clothing. He is a labourer, and has served iu the Hartlepool Militia.
