Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to Ma. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desires! that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article ! n the POLICE GAZETTE, all tetters addressed to the Editor moM be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may ba addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authoritv. INFORMATIONS MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Or the night of the 31st ult., between 9 and 10 o'clock, Peter McPartling, whilst walking in South- street, Middles- borough, received a blow ou the left side of the head with a short loaded gutta percha stick, which caused his death. A reward of .£ 100 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person who can and will give such information and evidence as will lead to the conviction of the murderer or murderers. The Home Secretary will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not bein or Superintendent Phillips, Police Station, Wigmore, Heie- fordshire.— Bow- street, June 25. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. On the 25th instant a dwelling- house at Church Hill, Handsworth, Staffordshire, was broken into, and the follow- ing property stolen therein : a pair of men's grey cloth trousers, fly front, large dark stripe down each side, much worn ; a grey Vest, no collar, bound with black braid, and red flannel lining ; a lady's blue silk Dress, much worn, and several holes on right side, two flounces, and trimmed with black braid and black silk fringe, and tight- fitting sleeves ; a small unbleached calico Sheet ; a brown Horse Rug, with browu binding; a travelling Eug, imitation sealskin on one side, and various colours on the other ; a pair of maroon- coloured Vases, with silver- coloured leaf and plain glass drops, stands about a foot high ; a pair of plain Vases, with small blue edges and plain glass drops, and stands about 10 inches high; a silver- plated Cruet Stand, to hold four vessels; a small mahogany Clock, gothic style ; a 15- day freuch gilt and alabaster Clock, strikes houis and half hours, with glass shade and stand, No. 4842, makers Swindeu and Sons, Birmingham; a black and white plaid Dress, two flounces aud wide sleeves, with bows on sleeves and breast; a woman's brown cloth Jacket, trimmed with black braid ; a pair of men's pepper- and- salt colour Trousers, dark stripe ou each side, much wcrn; a pair of woman's elastic- side Boots, nearly new ; a woman's black lace Scarf, half moon shape ; a Pocket Kuife, with ivory handle; a pair of embroidery Scissors ; two ivory Reels ; and a crochet Needle with ivory handle. Two men of respectable appearance dressed in dark clothes, who were seen loitering near the house, are suspected. Information to be given to Sergeant Hackney, Haudsworth, near Birmingham, Warwick.— Bonn- street, June 30. During the night of the 24th instant, Heathfield Hall, Handsworth, Staffordshire, was broken into, and stolen therein : a silver Egg Spoon, crest— a flying spur ( almost defaced) ; a silver Table Spoon, crest— a dragon's head ; a silve- Mustard Spoon ; and a small silver Sugar Bason, with the following inscription on the side : ' Presented to Thos. Pemberton, Esq., by his grateful friend Thos. Wilson Belles, forehead, white hind foot, two teeth out of upper jaw, and shod all round ; the > perty of Samuel Smith, miller, Eyton. Information to be g n to Chief Superintendent Richardson, Wellington, Salop.— ow- street, June 25. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Description of FREDERICK WEST, who is charged at Manchester, for stealing £ 80; and a gold lever Watch and Chain : he is about 30 years of age, 6 feet high, dark com- plexion ; dressed in dark striped trousers and vest, black coat, black poll hat, green and black necktie, cavalry boots with holes for spurs at the heels, and has served in the 4th Dragoon Guards. Information to be given to Chief Constable Palin, Town Hall, Manchester.— Bow- st., July 4. Absconded on the 30th ultimo, from Windmill- row, Upper Kennington- lane, charged with stealing £ 30, the monies of his employers : a youth, 18 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, pimples on face; dressed in grey tweed suit, round felt hat, side- spring boots; subject to fits. Supposed gone to Harlington, Gloucestershire, or Birbury, near Harlington.— Metropolitan Police, L Division, July 4. Description of DANIEL O'NEIL, late of Bowness, j Windermere, Westmoreland, bobbin turner, who is charged with stealing a black cloth Jacket, single- breasted, two [ pockets outside, and one pocket inside left breast, black [ covered buttons; a black cloth Vest, single- breasted, lined with white calico ; and a pair of black aud brown striped cloth Trousers ( all recently new), at Bowness, on the 21st ultimo : 21 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh j complexion, brown hair, no beard or whiskers, brown eyes, proportionate make, and has lost the second finger of his i light hand from the second joint; he is a native of Liver- | pool, and will probably be wearing the stolen clothes, as he left his own at Bowness ; he may seekemployment at bobbin mills. Information to be given to Superintendent Bird, Con- stabulary Office, Kendal, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, July 4. He stated he was going to Liverpool, aud was seen going in the direction of Dunstable. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of George Lee, in Great Bridge- street, Westbromwich, on the 1st instant : a large- sized silver verge stop Watch, No. 2521, white dial, cracked, gold hands, Las the name ' George Lee' engraved on inner case, and the initials ' G. L.' ou back of outer case; also a gold albert Chain, enlarged at middle, and tapering towards either end, has a glass pendant attached, which contains a gilt Shilling, of the Reign of George the fourth, dated 1825, with lion and crown on the reverse side. £ I reward will be paid for such information as will lead to the recovery of the property, aud conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Woollaston, Police Office, West- bromwich, or to Sergeant Smith, Police Station, Greets Green, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, July 4. Stolen from the person of a gentleman on the 24th inst., on the platform at the G. W. R Station, Windsor : a gold hunting Watch, ' F. T. W., 12th Feb., ' 61,)' engraved on inside case, maker Bell, 131, Mount- street, Berkeley- square. Also, a gold Watch, crest— a hart laid down, engraved on inside : ' Mr. Hartley, presented by Mr. Messey, Mr. Hartley, Denborn, Natal,' £ 10 reward will be paid on con- viction of the offender and recovery of the watch. Also, a gold horizontal Watch, ' £. D.,' No. 9377. Information to be given to Superintendent Hayes, Police Station, Windsor, Berks.— Bow- street, June 30. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, on the evening of the 26th instant: a consular gold lever Watch, centre seconds, enamel face, cream colour, No. 21532. By a man about 22 years of age, ft feet 2 or 3 inches Mgh, pale face ; dressed in dark clothes and black billycock hat. Information to be giveu to Chief Constable Keenan, Borough Police Office, Northampton.— Bow- street, June 30. Stolen from the person of a gentleman on the platform of [ the Blechynden Railway Station. Southampton, ou the evening of the 19th instant: a gold hunting Watch, maker Alfred Pegler, Southampton, No. 34377. £:> reward will be paid on the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the watch. Information to be given to Superintendent Breary, Southampton.— Bow- street, June 25. Stolen from a gentleman on the 23rd inst., at Brampton Bryan Horse Fair, Herefordshire : a new small silver hunting lever Watch, No. 44928. Supposed by a man, about 40 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high; dressed in a shabby dark suit of clothes, and black bowler hat; he is ac- companied by a short woman, about 40 years of age ; dressed in black shawl, dress, and bonnet. £ 2 reward will be paid to any person for such information as will lead to the convic- tion of the offender and recovery of the stolen watch. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Dykes, Leominster, management of his estate during a trusteeship of seven years.' £ 5 reward will be paid ou the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of any portion of th? property. Information to be given to Sergeant Hackney, Haudsworth, near Birmingham, or at any Police Station in Staffordshire.— Bow- street, June 27. Description of two men charged with burglary and assaulting a police constable at Smethwick, at r30a. m. on the 22nd instant: Oue about 24 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, full face, fresh complexion, light hair, slight moustache, no whiskers ; dressed in a soft billycock hat, black cloth jacket, light striped cloth trousers and vest. The other about 26 years of age, 5 feet 8 nches high ; dressed in a light jacket. Both had the appearance of boatmen. Information to be given to Inspector Mc Williams, Smethwick, near Biimingham. — Bow- street, June 25. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING, Stolen from a field at Downhead, near Frome, on or since the 23rd instant, a bay Mare, 4 years old, 15 hands 2 ins. high, well bred, white streak on face, the near hiud foot white, the hair rubbed off, three small spots on uear pin, and the tail cut short. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Bisgood, Glastonbury, Somerset, or to Sergeant, Williams, Shepton Mallet.— Bow- street, June. 30. Stolen from Bircher, Yarpole, Herefordshire, on the; ICth instaut, a mare Pony, 7 years old, 12 hauds high, bright j bay colour, a little white on one hiud leg, small saddle mark, left hiud leg a little crooked, and mane cut ou under side. J Supposed by a boy about 16 years of age, 0 feet 3 niches high, dark grey eyes, and brown hair cut short ; dressed in a white slop or frock, cord trousers, old strong boots ( oue toe worn off), and black low- crowned hat with wide broken biim. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Dykes, Leominster, i Herefordshire.— Bow- street, J une 27. Further information respecting the bay Horse stolen from the parish of Amington, near Tamworth, on the night of the 3rd iustaut, and advertised in the Police Gazette of the 6th iustar. t: the horse is a half- bred oue, 5 years old, 15 hauds high, white star on forehead, bang tail, aud when at work carries his tongue out on the right side of mouth. Was seen in the posressicu of two men at 2 a. m. on the 4th instant, at a place called Bodymoor Heath, aud going in the direction of Birmingham ; the men were dressed as labourers or boatmen, aud one was much shorter than the other. A reward of .£ 10 will be paid on the apprehension and convic- tion of the offenders. Information to be given to Inspector Hursher, Warwickshire Constabulary, Atherstone.— Brno- street, June 27. Stolen from a stable adjoining the canal at Eyton, near Wellington, during the night of the 23i d instaut: a black cart Mare, aged, about 14 hands high, short mane aud long tail, hair rubbed off the butt of tail, aud a little off end of left ear, a small wart on side of one shoulder, white star on A sheriff's warrant has been issued for the apprehension of JOHN GRIERSON, lately an accountant or teller in the Tradeston Branch of the Royal Bank of Scotland, charging him with having at Whitsunday last, stolen or embezzled the sum of .£ 270, belonging to the said Bank : he is about 24 yrs. of age, 5 feet 11 inches or 6 feet high, slender make, fresh clear complexion, lightish hair, small thin whiskers ; generally dressed in a grey tweed shooting coat, vest, and trousers, and j black stiff felt hat; he is in the habit of walking with his hauds iu his trousers pockets. His father is a cattle dealer and resides in Glasgow, but occasionally at a summer | residence in Saltcoats. Information to be given to Chief ' Constable M'Call, Central Police Chambers, Glasgow.— Boio- j street, July 2. Stolen from a cottage in the parish of Swindon, on the morning of the 1st instant, a pair cf woman's elastic side Boots, nearly new ; au old Magenta coloured stuff Frock ; an old merino Skirt; a brown aud white small plaid silk Shawl; and 5s. in Money. By a woman who had been lodging there, and who no doubt is wearing the stolen articles, her own being left behind ; is about 19 years of age, middle height, rather good looking, a prostitute, aud a native of Bishopstone, Shrivenham. Information to be given to Superintendent Fread, Police Station, Dartford, Kent.— Bvto- street, June 30. Stolen on the 24th instant, from Crouch End Hill, £ 43 in Gold and Silver. By a youth 18 years of age, 5 ft. 3 ins. high, sallow complexiou, and dark hair ; dressed iu black pea jacket, light trousers, and side- spring boots.— Metropolitan Police, Y Division, June 30. GEORGE WOOD, charged at Berwick- on- Tweed, with having stolen a Salmon, the property of the Berwick Salmon Fisheries Company, on the 12th instant : he is a fisherman, native of Spittal, Berwick- on- Tweed, 23 years of age, about 5 feet 6 or 7 iuches high, stout made, fair complexion, fair hair, round full face, tuft of hair ou chin, and lost one of his teeth in front ; he left on the 20th instant and went South, accompanied by Robert Wilks, fisherman, 19 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 iuches high, reddish hair. July 4 Description of JOHN WRAY or REGAN, charged at Warrington with stealing three pairs of Boots ( unmade) on the 20th instant: about 37 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, small moustache, and tuft of hair ou chiu, speak? with a cockney accent; dressed - when he left this town in dark grey tweed coat, black cloth trousers, and Wellington boots cut down ; he is journeyman shoemaker. The boots stolen are : one pair man's, balmoral tops, water- tight tongues ; one pair man's, elastic- sido tops, a » : d a pair of° bottoms and heels for dress shoes, stamped ' R. R.'; and the other pair blocked calf and elastic tops, toepieces, and sole leather stamped ' J. N.' Information to bo given to Chief Constable Hunt, Warrington, Lancashire.— Bow- street June 27. Description of a man, charged at Crook, with stealing from his lodgings, the property of Mr. Joseph Nicholson, on the 24th instant: a patent lever gold Watch, No. 2750, and has the figure of a castle on dial, and a heavy gold albert Guard attached ; a pair of drab striped Trousers and Vest; a checked woollen Shirt ; a brown silk Umbrella : and about £ 2 in Gold and Silver : he is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fresh complexion, ginger hair and whiskers, is known by the name of ' JOHN,' works as a navvy or quarryman, and belongs to Suffolk ; dressed in a brown cloth coat, black felt hat, and strong lace- up boots. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Henderson, Police Station, Bishop Auckland, Durham.— Bow- street, June 27. Stolen on the 25th instant, from the factory of Messrs. Ward, in Litchurch : fourteen pairs of ladies kid Boots, elactic- hides, with bound toe- caps, military heels and channels, and sill stamped ' 31' on the waist, value 10s, 9d. each, two pairs were perfectly finished, and twelve were unfinished. By JOSEPH WILSON, shoe finisher, a native of Hickley, has worked in Leicester and Leamington, about 5 feet 8 inches high, 27 years of age, stout built, sandy mous- tache and imperial, no whiskers, short brown bair, the knuckle of third finger on right hand is knocked up ; went away in company with a young man named Joseph Tucker, a native of Nottingham, about 5 feet 2 inches high, 24 years of age, stout make, no whiskers, short cut hair, rough red complexion, is a shoe- hand by trade. A warrant has been issued against him. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Lawson, Constabulary Offices, Litchurch, Derby.— Bow street, June 27. Description of three men who stopped at the house of Thomas Englishby, eating- house keeper, in the borough of Wigan, ou the 19th instaut, aud left the following morning, • who said they were going Newburgh Fair, but it supposed they went to Soutbport: One gave the name of WILLIAM DEAIRY ( supposed false), about 24 years of age, 5 feet inches high, light brown hair, hazel eyes, fair complexion, scar on left shoulder, two moles between shoulders, mole on left side of his back, and only seven teeth in upper jaw ; state he is a barman, and was born at Bolton ( supposed untrue), and has resided in Man chester aud Birmingham. Another is about 42 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark brown hair inclined to curl, tufted up in front, and supposed to be a little bald on the head, dark bushy whiskers, short thick nose, swarthy complexion, stern- looking, restless eye, and is continually looking suspiciously about him, round shoulders, and very broad set ; dressed in a dark tweed jacket and waistcoat, greyish tweed trousers with small dark stripe, low shoes ( tie with three holes), and black silk hat with broad brim. The other is about 35 years of age, about 6 feet high, dark hair, slight moustache and beard, very fresh- looking, and very bold in his manner ; dressed in a blue cloth jacket, waistcoat, and light trousers. The first two came back and stopped at Englishby's all night, going away next day, and were not expected to return, but about 10 o'clock the same night the second man came back, and whilst in conversation with Englishby, the first came and went up stairs, he shortly afterwards cauic down and both men immediately left the house, and Englishby shortly after discovered that a drawer in his bedroom had been broken open and the sum of £ 24 10s. and a gold albert Chain taken away. Deairy was afterwards apprehended, but the other two escaped. On searching Deairy, ,£ 16 and the albert Chain were found upon him, together with a kind of wrench or small jemmy aud four picklocks. The wrench appears to be the. instrument used in forcing drawers and doors at the houses of Messrs. Thomas Milligan, Barlow, Farr, and Holt, which were entered on the 11th instant. Information to be given to Chief Constable Simm, Police Office, Wigan, Lancashire.— Bow- street, June 27. Stolen on the 11th instaut from a tailor's shop at Ross, a pair of man's dark Scotch tweed Trousers, fly fronts, and machine made. By a tramping tailor, about 24 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, dark hair, no whiskers, dark complexion ; dressed in a drab tweed jacket, trousers, aud vest, bowler hat, and old boots. Supposed to be in Worcester. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Cope, Police Station, Ross, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, June 25. Absconded from the borough of Shrewsbury, on the 12th instaut, charged on a warrant with stealing a Watch : THOMAS WM. HAY, by trade a watchmaker, about 36 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, rather thin pale face, dark hair, whiskers, and moustache, has an effeminate or squeaking voice ; dressed in brown overcoat, dark trousers, aud high hat, all much worn. Information to be given to Head Constable Davies, Shrewsbury.— Bow- st., June 25. Stolen on the 21st instant, from Brolchyllyn farm, in the parish of Trefeglwys : a grey cloth Coat, with pockets outside and flaps, au inside breast pocket, and black bone buttons ; a grey Waistcoat, same material, with collar, black bone buttons, and inside breast pocket; and a pair of grey Trousers, with fall front, has a patch on left leg of another material. By a tramp who had been a few weeks in Mr. Hughes' service as a labourer, and stated that he had been employed at ironworks : about 32 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fresh complexion, scar on upper lip, brown hair, thin in front, and small browu whiskers ; dressed in the stolen property, and a puce and white comforter, strong watertight boots, aud billycock hat. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Newtown, or to Sergeant Owen, Llanidloes, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- strcet, June 25. trousers, fclack billycock hat, turning up at the side, and elastic- side boots ; he hug been seen several times during the last 2 y « « rs in the neighbourhood of - Shordley ; supposed to be a tramp. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Con- stable Adams, or to Inspector Minshull, Mold, Flintshire.— — Bow- street, July 2. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEAE OURS. A warrant has been issued for the apprehension of EDWARD WH1TEMAN, who is charged with obtaining £ 1 10s. by false pretences, the monies of George Napp, at the parish of Heathfield, ou the 6th ultimo : he is 50 years of age, about 6 feet high, light complexion, light brown hair, and sandy whiskers meeting under chin, slight figure, is a labourer, and a native of Warbleton ; dressed in a long white frock, cord trousers, black billycock hat, and lace- tip boots. He is supposed to have gone into Surrey, to thatch hay ricks, & c. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes ; to Superintendent Waghorn, Hailsham ; or at any Police Station in East Sussex.— Bow- street, July 4. Description of a woman who gave the name of LEE, alias BARNES, alias STOKES, charged with obtaining by false pretence, 19 £ ro Bank of England Notes; £ 15 Ids. in Gold and Silver ; two black silk Dresses— one moire antique, one camlet ; a liusey Skirt ; a brown stuff Dress ; a brown stuff Dress and Lining, not made up ; a black silk Petticoat; two black silk Jackets ; two cloth Jackets ; two Shawls— one a plaid the other flowered ; two Table Cloths— one marked ' S. A. F. ;' a small silk Shawl; and a blown liusey Apron, in which they were tied up : she is about 45 years of age, middle height, dark hair, braided in front, dark gipsy com- plexion, and very white teeth. Supposed to have had a pedlar's certificate in 1871, 1872, and 1873 ; known in Wilts and Hants ; she is a fortune- teller. Information to be given to Superintendent Watts, Sherborne, Dorset.— Bow- street, June 30.
