Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signatnre of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to ME. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. Whenever it is desires! that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all tetters addressed to the Editor mast be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Absconded charged on a warrant with causing the death of John Humphries, at Hounslow, 26th ultimo: ALFRED CHURCH, 21 years of age, 0 feet 4 iuches - high, pale com- plexion, sullen looking, and has a few light hairs on the chin ; dressed iu dark coat, white slop underneath, cord trousers, heavy boots, and brown scull cap, he is a brickmaker, and known at Southall, and Cranford. — Metropolitan Police, T Division, June 6. FORGERY. Description of PETER BAIRD, charged with forging a cheque at Stranraer : he is a clogger, a native of Stranraer, 32 years of age, 5 feet 6 iuches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair cut short, hazel eyes, thick neck, little or no whiskers, and speaks the South of Scotland dialect; generally dressed in dark tweed or check clothes, and either round cap or billycock hat. This person was traced to Liverpool, where he was in quest of work iu the beginning of the past month, and he is supposed to be working at his trade in some of the clog manufactories iu Lancashire. Information to be given to Superintendent McNeil, Stranraer, Wigtonshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- st., June 2. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of a lady whilst at Tynemoutb, on the 2ud instant : a gold lever Watch, No. 27486, compen- sation balance, ' E. Deacon, Luton,' engraved on dome. In- formation to be given to Head Constable Stewart, Tynemouth, Northumberland.— Bow- street, June 6. Stolen from the person iu Brighton on the 2nd instant: a gold Geneva Watch, having written ou the plate inside, ' Presented to W. M. Baily, by Messrs. Holmes and Impey, August, 1868." Three men of the following description aie suspected, one about 33 years of age, about 5 feet 11 iuches' high, stout make, loug brown whiskers, full face ; dressed iu grey overcoat with brown velvet collar, aud black soft hat; another about 30 years of tge, about 5 feet 10 inches high, dark hair and whiskers, dark complexion ; dressed in black frock coat, and black oxford hat; aud the other about 25 yrs. of age, pale face, no whiskers, and sharp looking eyes; dressed iu black, and high black hat; carried au umbrella. Information to be given to Chief Coustable White, Brighton, or to the City or Metropolitan Police.— Bow- street, June 6. Description of five men committed for trial at the East Kent Quarter Sessions to be held on the 1st of July next, for larceny and attempted larceny from the person at. Wye Races on the the 22nd instaut: JOHN WILLIAM BROWN, 27 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, fair complexion, grey eyes, dark hair slightly grey and cut short, clean shaved, burn mark on right breast, large scar on right side of neck, and scar inside left leg below the knee ; dressed in a dark cloth coat, light mixture vest with small dark spots, light pepper- and- salt coloured trousers, white cotton shift, black twill scarf with red stripes, hard felt hat, aud lace- up boots ; states be is a shoemaker; JOHN SMITH, 18 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, pale complexion, light blue eyes, light hair, pockmarked, crippled iu right knee, and walks with a stick ; dressed in pepper- and- salt coloured coat aud vest, fine cord trousers, white shirt, white silk neckerchief with spots, elastic- side imitation lace boots, and hard felt hat ; states he is a wood chopper, and a native Brentford ; GEORGE HER- BERT, 19 years of age, 5 feet inches high, fair cohiplexion, hazel eyes, dark brown hair, scar in centre of forehead and under left eye, three small pockmarks in centre of back, tattooed on right arm, scar on elbow and on muscle of left arm ; dressed in blue cloth coat with velvet collar, dark mix- ture vest, black cloth trousers, white eotton shirt, blue neck- tie, and elastic- side boots ; gave his address No. 1, Coletnans- buildings, Lever- street, St. Luke's, London ; a labourer; JOSEPH DOWNS, 36 years of age, 5 feet 5| inches high, fair complexion, grey eyes, dark brown hair, beard, and moustache, whiskers shaved offsides of face, scar on forehead, large veins on calf of left leg, and scar from a cut on left wrist; dressed in a pilot cloth overcoat with velvet collar, black cloth under coat, dark speckled vest, dark trousers with brown stripe, white cotton shirt, dark scarf with red spots, hard felt hat, and lace- up boots; a welsher, and gave his address 5, High- street, Birmingham; and JOHN WARRICK, 32 years of age, 5 feet 9J inches high, dark complexion, hair, and whiskers, stout build, large features, scar on left arm from a burn, and scar from a cut on muscle of right arm; dressed in a black cloth frock coat, dark cloth vest with blue spots, a flowered velvet vest, light striped trousers, black satin necktie with lavender stripes, white cotton shirt, high silk hat, and elastic- side boots; states he is a hair sorter, and works at Bishop's, London- wall ; gave his address No. 17, Money- street, North street, Hoxton. Also of JOSEPH VICKERS, sentenced to six week's hard labour on the 23rd instant, for attempting to pick pockets at Wye Railway Station, on the 22nd instant : 22 years of age, 5 feet 3 iuches high, dark complexion aud hair, few dark whiskers ou sides of face, scar on forehead, one on back of neck, one on right elbow, and one on back ; dressed in dark waterproof overcoat, blue undercoat, with velvet collar, dark vest, with violet spots, light striped trousers, with ulack stripe dowu the sides, black aud magenta baltic shirt, black tie, with blue stripes, black silk bat, and elastic- side boots. States he is a commercial traveller, aud gave his address 1, King's Cross- road, London. And of GUSTAVE CARPENTIER, a Belgian, 19 years age, 5 feet 4b inches high, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, grey eyes, no whiskers or moustache, scar on muscle of right arm, one on right breast, also one from a cut in palm of left hand ; dressed in dark waterproof overcoat, blue cloth undercoat, bound with black braid, mixture vest, with red spots, bound with black braid, brown striped trousers, black satin necktie, with white spots, white cotton shirt, soft felt hat, and elastic- side boots. Professes not to be able to speak English. Information to be given to Superintendent Noakes, Kent Constabulary, Ashfrrd.— Bow- street, May 26. Stolen from the person at Wye Races, Kent, on the 22ud inst. : a single- case silver lever Watch, ' Hall' engraved inside; a gold Albert; £ 12 iu, Money ; a silver hunting Watch, maker R. Cocking, Deal; a gentleman's gold Geneva Watch, jewelled iu eight holes, white face, sunken seconds, engine- turned case witn flower in centre ; an oven- face Verge Watch, maker Joseph Wilson, London, No. 5848 ; a silver Geneva Watch ; a silver Albert; a large silver Watch, maker Joyce, Lombard- street, London, bold figures, minute hand much bent; a double case silver verge Watch, maker Nicholl Harrison, Canterbury, ' W. Huoks' engraved on inside case; a dark leather Purse, containing about 40s., a Pencil, and a Ticket with the age of a female ou it. Information to be given to Superintendent Noakes, Kent Constabulary, Ashford.— Bow- street, May 26. Between 6 p. m. on the 21st and 6 a. m. on the 22nd insL, the house of Mr. David Plant, of Halesowen- etreet, Cradley Heath, was entered, and the following articles stolen therein : a silver Geneva Watch, No. 4063, engraved on th » inside of the back case, ' Patent lever, full jewelled,' engine- tamed case, with star and garter in centre, and part of the seconds hand broken off; a gold Albert, snake pattern, with a seal attached in a swivel, and a lion on the swivel, the seal is of three different colours, viz., white, green, and blood- colonr. A man of the following description, who has lived near and is well acquainted with the premises, is suspected : about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fair complexion, sandy whiskers and moustache, and shaves on the chin; dressed in a black billycock hat, shabby black or blue cloJh dress coat, dark cloth waistcoat dappled with green, and dark cloth trousers ; is a native of Bewdley, Shropshire. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Mills, Brierley HiU, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, May 26. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between 1 and 6 a. m. on the 27th ultimo, the dwelling- house of Mr. Dudley Felix Kemp, Chipstead, Surrey, was broken into and entered, and the following Articles stoleu therein : a gold Watch, a gold Albert, oval links, with Locket attached, containing portraits of two ladies aud Mr. Kemp's initials ; a pair of gold Sleeve Links ; an onyx Piu; a grey cloth Jacket ; a pair of grey cloth Trousers; a dark grey Cap, with peak; a pair of men's elastic- side Boot?, one has been mended at the side ; a pair of lace- up Boots, nearly new, with brass eyelet- holes ; a riding Crop, mounted with silver ; aud a walking Stick. A short white slop, buttons up the front, was left behind by the offenders. Information to be given to Inspector Lambert, Surrey Constabulary, Reigate, or to Superintendent Page, Dorking, Surrey.— Bow- street, June 4. During the night of the 31st ultimo, the house of George Willcock, situated at Gillingham, was burglariously broken and entered, aud the following property stolen thereiu : au open face silver verge Watch, maker ' Jones, Strand,' lias the letter ' T.' scratched on inside case; a pilot cloth monkey Jacket, red aud black plaid liniug, black bone buttons ; two flannel Shirts, one small size and has a brass button on the neck ; and a pair of men's cotton drawers. Information to be given to Superintendent Coppinger, Police Court, Chatham, Kent.— Bow- street, June 1. During the night of the 24th instant the dwelling- house of George Bennett, situated iu the parish of Burham, Kent, was burglariously entered and the following articles, his pro- perty, stolen thereiu : three Shawls of the following descrip- tion— one black, one black with shape of bird's foot in the centre and black fringe, and one coloured with white fringe aud red border ; one monkey Jacket, velvet collar, red and black lining and black buttons ; one black cloth Coat, velvet collar, the pocket on the left side has a piece sewn in where it was burnt; I lb. of Beef, and 2s. 3d. in Money. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Hulse, Police Station, West Malling, near Maidstone, Kent.— Bow- street, May 23. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen on or about the 31st ultimo, from a field at Ewell: a brown Pony, 13£ hands high, white face, spotted neck and body.— Metropolitan Police, V Division, June 6. Stolen from the parish of Amington, near Tamworth, during the night of the 3rd instant : a bay Horse, 5 years old, 15 hands high, white star on forehead, bang tail, has been clipped, but shows his old coat. Any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and convic- tion of the offender or offenders, shall receive £ 5 reward. Information to be given to Inspector Hursher, Atherstone, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, June 6. Stolen from a field at Wheat Bucketts, near Redruth, Cornwall, on the 27th ultimo : a bay Pony, about 14 hands high, pin shot, white star on forehead. Information to be given to Mr. Curragh, Police Station, Redruth, CornwalL — Bow- street, June 6. Stolen on the 31st ult., from a field at Epsom : a black Gelding, 13 hands high, broken knees, saddle marked. Also, on the 30th or 31st ultimo, from a field near Epsom Common : a large bay cart Mare, aged, 16 hands high, long mane and tail, white star on forehead, the under hp hangs down, has the appearance of being in foal, and is in good condition.- Metropolitan Police, V Division, June 6. Stolen from a field at Stechford, near Birmingham, during the night of the 30th ultimo : a dark bay Mare, 10 hands high, 7 years old, in good condition, long mane and tail, white star on forehead, white near hind fetlock, has been blistered on the fore legs, and had the hair trimmed off all the feet; theproperty of Mr. William Fowler, 10, Newdigate- street, Vauxhall, Birmingham. A reward of £ 5 will be paid on the recovery of tne mare. Information to be given to Superintendent Gallaway, Police Station, Aston, near Bir- mingham.— Bow- street, June 4. Stolen during the night of the 1st or morning of the 2nd instaut, from a field in the parish of Hilton, the property of Mr. George Jeenes, a bay Mare, 15 hands high, 5 years old, black legs, aud a little lame on the off one, value about £ 35. Information to be giveu to Superintendent Spencer, St. Ives, Hunts.— Bow- street, June 4. The Horse described in the Police Gazette of the 23rd, and the Irish Hue and Cry of the 27th ultimo, as having been stoleu at Chester, has been recovered, and the thief arrested by the Dublin Metropolitan Police. The follow- ing is the description of the man in custody, who is sus- pected of having committed similar offences elsewhere: WILLIAM MOORE, ( which he admits to be false), 27 years of age, 5 feet 8% inches high, light blue eyes, dark brown hair, fresh complexion, tooth missing from right front of upper jaw, freckled arms, weight 10 stone 12 lbs, no whiskers or mous- tache, scar under chin ; dressed in a soft black felt hat, light tweed overcoat, blue cloth vest, light tweed trousers, the buttons upon which are marked ' Jacobs, Oldham- street, Manchester,' elastic side boots, with square toes ; states that he has been a long time iu France, Holland, and Belgium, aud that he served in the Belgian army 4 years. ' Mr. Shaw, Ridley.' ' Mr. John Adamson & Son ( or Senr.), Sauchenhall- st.' ( the name of the street is not very distinct). April 6 Description of a man in custody at " Whittlesey for horse stealing: CHARLES GREEN, a native of Ashbourn, Derbyshire, 51 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, nearly black hair, worn long aud inclined to curl, brown eyes, fresh face ; dressed in ribbed purple cloth cap with peak, turned up at ears with dark flaps, such as are worn by pot hawkers, plaid neckerchief, blue cloth vest, black cloth coat, cotton cord trousers, and heavy lace- up boots ; marked with six moles ou back, two on right breast, one under left armpit, orttcilix and woman holding child in one hand, and dagger in the other, on right arm, woman and auchor and Britannia on right fore- arm, man and woman joining hands holding mug aud goblet, on left arm, two sailors dancing, half moon, six stars, wreath encircling a heart, sun, woman, aud mermaid on left forearm; he is stoutly built, says he has been to sea with fishing smacks most of his life, but for the last six months worked in a brick field near London, has a wife aud three children, but refuses to say where. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Smith, Whittlesey, Cambs.— Bow- street, June 4. Found straying at Milford, Lymington, on the 3rd inst., and supposed to have strayed from New Forest : a dark grey Mare, about 2 years old, " about lli hands high, white star on forehead, long tail, no shoes on, the letter ' P' on near shoulder, and in good condition. Information to be given to Superintendent Stephenson, Hants Constabulary, Lyndhurst, or to Sergeant Rodaway, Lymington, Hampshire. - Bow- street, June 2. Stolen between 6 a. m. the 2nd, and !) a. m. on the 3rd instant: a Kent teg Sheep, not known if ewe or wether, if a ewe, tiver mark down neck, and if a wether, down rump, pitchmark ' J. M.' on nearside; the property of Mr. John Mills, Lambs Land Farm, Rolvenden. Information to be given to Superinteudent Morgan, Kent Constabulary, Cran- braok.— Bow- street, May 20. Stolen on tbe 9th instaDt, from the Hill Top Farm, Ledbury : a brown mare Pony, aged, about 12^ hands high, • with long mane and tail. £ 5 reward will be paid on cun- riction of tbe offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Blunsdon, Ledbury, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, May 26. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. The two gipsies advertised in the Police Gazette of the 14th ultimo, charged with stealing sheep Skins, at Barnsley, have been apprehended at Bradford- on- Avon : their names are CHARLES LOVERIDGE, and MOSES SCANETT, and they are committed for trial at the next Gloucester County Quarter Sessions. Iuformation to be given to Super- intendent Wood, Police Station, Cirencester, Gloucestershire. — Bow- street, June 6. Stolen, on the 21st ultimo, from the Coach and Horses Public- house, Ashbourne, the following articles of Wearing Apparel : a lady's Russell cord black Dress, with tunic and cape ; a Tunic trimmed with balmoral crape, satin and fringe; a girl's Suit, same material; a pair of lady's elastic- side Boots, kid tops; all new ; a pepper- and- salt- coloured Vest, man's size, half worn. By a woman of low stature, about 23 years of age ; wore a blue dress, black tunic, and a white straw bat, with white feather; she was accompanied by a man about 24 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high ; wore a white slop underneath a great coat; had a few pairs of scissors in his possession, which he occasionally offered for sale. 10s. reward will be paid to any person giving such information as shall lead to her conviction, and recovery of the dresses. Information to be given to Superintendent Whieldon, Constabulary Office, Ashbourne, Derbyshire. •— Bow- street, June 4. Description of SAMUEL POOLE, charged with steal- ing £ 26 8s., the. property of John Redwood, his master ; is 22 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, light brown curly hair, small whiskers and moustache, tattooed on wrist and arms with letters SP on one arm, has been in tbe Royal Artillery, is smart made, one of bis legs is slightly injured, and a native of Upton, near Wiveliscomb, Somerset. Information to be given to Superintendent Goldsmith, Taunton.— Bow- street, June 2. Absconded from Romford, Essex, on the 28th ultimo, charged on a warrant with embezzlement: GEORGE COX, a journeyman butcher, 24 or 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 ins. high, dark brown hair, no whiskers or moustache, full face, fresh complexion, stout build, and blind with right eye ; dressed in black billycock hat, blue slop, and cotton cord trousers, turns bis feet out when walking, and slovenly gait; probably will seek employment as butcher on board ship, is a native of Chiswick, Middlesex, at which place lie is well known to the police. Information to be given to Inspector Pepper, Police Station, Romford, Essex, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 2. Stolen on the 31st ult., from a bed- room at the dwelling- house of Mr. W. Chandler, of Salisbury: a black cloth frock Coat, having a small hole burnt in the right skirt ; a black cloth Waistcoat; and a pair of grey cloth Trousers. By a mau, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, sun- freckled face, and apparently a scar under one of the eyes, over which he sometimes wears a shade, light hair cut short, no whiskers or beard ; dressed in a light grey suit of clothes, and wore a large- size dark scotch cap. Is supposed to be an Irishman. Information to be given to Head Con- stable White, City Police Station, Salisbury, Wilts.— Bow- street, June 2. Description of RICHARD DANE, a farm labourer, who is charged with having on tbe 28th ultimo stolen the sum of £ 3, tbe property of his master, Mr. Richard East- land, at Deeping, St. Nicholas, farmer. He is 29 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 iuches high, slight build, light blue eyes, thiu face, long thin light whiskers all rouud his face, has a slouching walk ; dressed in cord trousers, brown slop, had a dark blue pilot jacket, with him, black billycock, strong lace- up l oots, having toe- plates on instead of nails ; is a native of Walpole, St. Peter's, in Norfolk, and was convicted in March last for stealing a Shirt in Holbeach Marsh. Information to be giveu to Superintendent Pidgeon, Bourn, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, J le 2. Absco led fr » m Gloucester, on the 28th ultimo, charged with emb « ling at Cheltenham, on the 15th January last, the sum < £ 5 lfis. 5d., monies he had receieved for his employe) SAMUEL BLYTHE, warder and tr. ule instructor . Gloucester County Prison, 38 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, pale thin features, sallow com- plexion, dark hair, and little whiskers on sides of face, which may now be shaved off; dressed when he left in a hard round bowler hat and suit of shabby black clothes ; he is a mat maker and weaver, and a native of Cumberland ( supposed Carlisle). Iuformation to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Griffin, Gloucester, or to Superintendent Day, Constabulary Oflice, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, from whom a photograph may be obtained on application.— Bow- street, June 2. Description of JOSHUA WOOD, who absconded from Newcastle- on- Tyne, on the 23rd instant, charged ou a warrant with stealing two £ 5 Bank of England Notes and £- 23 iu Gold : a native of Newcastle- upon- Tyne, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, smart military appearance, good address, dark brown hair, cut short, dark moustache and imperial, no whiskers, rouud small features, figure of a lady tattooed ou right arm, ship on breast, and other tattoo marks on arms ; dressed iu grey coat, and check cap. Has been a soldier, and obtained his discharge by purchase iu 1871. Information to be given to Chief Constable Nicholls, Newcastle- on- Tyne, Northumberland.— ffywstreet, Mm/ 30.
