Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS FORGERY. A warrant has been issued for the apprehension of ALFRED HARBOTTLE, charged with forging bank drafts and cheques, and obtaining money to the amount of £ 800, who has absconded : he is a native of Newcastle- upon- Tyne, 23 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, black hair, short dark brown beard, whiskers, and moustache, small dark heavy eyes, nose broken, very flat at top and turned up at end, rather short- sighted, occasionally wears spectacles, droops his head a little when walking, and is a little knock- kneed ; dressed iu a dark grey speckled cloth overcoat, grey tweed trousers with dark stripe down sides, round black hard felt half- sized hat, with ( probably) a Newcastle maker's name inside, and had a silver watch with long black ribbon or guard attached ; carried a striped carpet bag, believed to contain a suit of black clothes; he also had with him a rough black and white small check plaid, which he may probably be wearing, aud two 14 lb. packets of Fry's cocoa in wooden boxes, about 18 iuches long by 9 inches broad, one of which was covered with green American leather; he took from Newcastle £ 700 to £ 800 in gold. £ 25 will be paid to any person who will give such iuformation as may lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender. Stolen from the person of a gentleman at Croxton Park Races, on the 3rd iustaut : a silver lever Watch, maker Everington, Pelham- street, Nottingham, No. 37791, capped aud jewelled, seconds hand off, has a small piece chipped off the dial near the figure 5, aud ' George Tomlin' scratched on the inside case. Information to be given to Superintendent Platts, Melton Mowbray, or to Inspector Peberdry, Bottes- ford, Leicestershire.— Bow- street, Apt il 9. 3 months, for felony, at the Northallerton April Sessions m 1871. £ 5 reward and all expenses will be paid for his appre- hension, or for such information as will lead to a like result. Information to be given to Superintendent Stephenson, Hexham, Northumberland, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 7. During the night of the 28th ultimo, the coach- house at the residence of W. Chinner, Esq., Fox Hills, Wombourne, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a grey tweed stable Jacket, a pair of top Boots, a pair of watertight Boots, a pair of old blucher Boots, a polishing Brush, two stable Rubbers, and a grey and black plaid stable Cap. Also, on the same night, the saddle- room at the residence of W. Gibbs, Esq., Hampton Hill, Wombourne, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a red silk Pocket- handker- chief, and a pair of lady's skating Boots. Information to be given to Inspector McCrea, Tettenhall, or Sergeant Rushton, Trysull, near Wolverhampton, Stafford- shire.— Bow- street, April 4. Stolen by means of skeleton keys, from a dwelling house at Heaton Chapel, between 6 and 8 p. m. on the 30th ultimo : a lady's gold lever Watch, inscribed on inside case ' Presented by J. V. to Miss A. Gourdain,' had attached a gold Guard, snake pattern, with Seal, Key, Locket, and two gold Charms, one a small cannon and one a mortar ; also 18s. in Silver. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person who will give such iu- formation as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property, on application to Superintendent Bent, Old Trafford, near Man- chester. - Bow- street, April 4. On the night of the 2nd instant, the dwelling- house of the Rev. S. N. Prance, Stapleford Tawney Rectory, was broken into, and £ 0 in Silver; £ 1 10s. in Gold; 3s. in Coppers; au opera Glass, marked Serf Brussells; and a memo Book, containing a list1 of new library books, stolen therein. A man going about the country offering flowers for sale is suspected : he was seen at 3 a. m. on Thursday coming from the direction of Tawney Rector}', and going towards Romford : he is about 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion; dressed in dark coat, vest, and trousers, and a black wide- awake hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Simpson, Police Station, Epping, Essex.— Bow street, April A. Description of a drover who goes by the name of JACK, charged with breaking into the bar at the Boot Public- house, St. Alban's, on the morning of the 1st instant, aud stealing Silver aud Copper Monies, the property of the landlord : he is 26 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 iuches high, rather full face ; dressed iu very ragged clothes, with cap without peak ; he is well known in the county of Herts, and attends fairs and markets as a drover. Information to be given to Super- intendent Pike, St. Alban's, Herts.— Bow- street, April 4. Description of JAMES HARAAKER, charged with breaking aud burglariously entering a dwelling- house at Bradford, and stealing fifty Watches, forty Rings, and other Articles, on the 27th ultimo : 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, black hair, eyes and moustache, the latter rather long aud strong, aud covers a blue mark on the lip, full broad forehead, and rather broad set; dressed in dark suit, sealskin cap or round black hat. Information to be given to Chief Constable Grauhan, Bradford, Yorkshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 2. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. About 1 p. m. on the 8th instant, the dwelling- house of Thomas Clayton, of Poynton, near Macclesfield, Cheshire, 1 collier, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a black cloth Jacket, two pockets outside, and black covered buttons ; 1 a grey cloth Jacket, Vest and Trousers ; a pair of boy's light coloured Trousers aud Vest; a woman's black stuff Dress ; a pair of woman's black cloth Boots ; two felt Hats, one black, 1 the other brown ; and a red and white Muffler. Information to be given to Superintendent Williamson, County Police Station, Macclesfield.— Bow- street, April 10. Duiing the night of the 21st January last, the dwelling- house of Mr. Frederick Ayton, of the Old Brewery, Hexham, was burglariously broken into, aud the following property stolen therein : a meerschaum Pipe ; a pair of lace- up Boots, large size, have very square toes, and arc made of rough leather ; and three boxes of Cigars; part of the stolen property has since been recovered. A man named JAMES GREER, alias DAVID BRANNAN, is charged with the above offence, and is of the following description : 36 years of age, 6 feet 6£ inches high, stout make, fresh complexion, sandy hair, blue eyes, ' B. C.' ( defaced) on right side, ' D.' ( defaced) on left side, cut mark on right cheek, and on forehead ; supposed to be wearing the stolen boots; was born in Ireland, but has been many years iu England ; is well known in the counties of Cumberland, Westmorland, Northumberland, Durham, and Yorkshire, has occasionally been employed as a cattle drover, as well as a butcher's assistant. He was liberated from Northallerton Gaol on the 8th of January last, where he had undergone a sentence of 9 months' imprisonment for felony, and is now subject to 2 years' supervision of the police; lie was also sentenced to HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Absconded from Toddington, Beds, on the 1st iustant, charged with stealing a very dark ( nearly black) bay Mare, aged, 13 hauds high, blind of near eye, tail cut short; he is also chargcd with stealing at the same time, a Bridle, Saddle, a pair of German silver Spurs, aud £ 0 iu Mouej', the pro- perty of Charles Ayres, ahorse dealer, his master: ALFRED NAYLOR, about 21 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, little sandy whiskers, aud stout built; dressed iu brown sleeved waistcoat, cotton cord trousers ( fitting tight to legs), and rough hairy cap. He talked of going to America, and has friends living at Gressenhall, near East Dereham, Norfolk. Information to be given to Superintendent Shepperd, Police Office, Woburu, Beds, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 10. Stolen from a stable in Oldham, between 5 p. m. on the 8th, and 5 a. m. on the 9th instant : a black cart Horse, about 16 hands high, near hind foot white, long mane, rather thin tail, cut mark ou one eyelid ; a set of Gears, nearly new, the bridle has a square piece of brass on each blinker, aud ou the saddle, bright hames and galvanized chains; also a spring Cart, body painted blue, red wheels, one plate of near side spring is broken, ' John Holt, carrier, Oldham ' on the sign. £ 10 reward will be paid on the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders who stole the horse. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Oldham, Lancashire.— Bow- street, April 10. Description of a man who has absconded from Maestig, in Glamorganshire, on the morning of the 3rd inst., charged with stealiug a bay- coloured Mare ( since found sold to a farmer in the neighbourhood for £ 18): by a mau, who gave the name of DAVID , about 40 years of age, 5 feet C or 7 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair turning grey, brown whiskers with grey hairs in them, long thin features, slight build, turns his toes out when walking, has a downcast look, and is a little round shouldered; a Welshman; dressed in a blach cloth frock coat, trousers, and vest, yeHow muffler round neck, light elastic- side boots, and black high wideawake hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Sadler, Constabulary Office, Brigend, Glamorganshire.— Bov>- street, April 7. Stolen from Chillesford on the 26th ultimo, the property of James Brown, of Sudbourne, wheelwright: a black thick- set mare Pony, 8 years old, 12 hands high, short frizzled mane, white spot on forehead and nose, slightly grey above her eyes, stands over on hind pasterns, and long tail with the end cut off'. Information to be given to the Police at Wood- bridge or Tunstall, Suffolk.— Bow- street, April 7. Description of RICHARD HODGSON, charged with horse stealing at Leeds, against whom a warrant has been granted : he is about 45 years of age, about 5 feet 7 or 8 ins. high, medium build, greyish hair and whiskers, no moustache, rather long visage ; dressed in an old brown coat, corduroy trousers, and black billycock hat. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Leeds.— Bo> s- etreet April 7. Stolen between 6' 30 p. m. the 1st, and 5- 30 p. m. on the 2nd iustant, from a stable at Hammersmith : a dark brown gelding Cob, 15 hands high, 7 years old, white blaze down face, off hind fetlock white, saddle marks on back, a fast trotter, also a bridle with snaffle bit, a horse Roller, aud two corn Sacks, marked ' Price.'— Metropolitan Police, TDivision, April 7. Stolen on the 24th ultimo, from Charlton, Kent, a bay nag Horse, 5 years old, saddle- marks on back, hair rubbed off near hip, two white patches on hind fetlock, about 15i hands high, long tail, and mane rather bare under collar; a builder's spring Cart, painted dull yellow, lined black, wheels red; and a set of cart Harness, with the initials ' E. C. R' on saddle. The above was hired of Mr. George Harris, Forest- lane, Stratford, Essex, for the purpose of removing a piana- forte and some articles of light furniture from Charlton, by a man of the following desciption, who accompanied the driver from Mile- em.'- road to Charlton, where he induced the driver to go into a coffee- house to get some refreshment, and then drove away with the property ( all of which has been recovered) : he is about 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, rather red full face, and dark whiskers and moustache ; he was accompanied by a boy about 14 years of age. He is supposed to have resided at Penge, near Norwood, up to about the middle of July, 1871, and to have carried on the business of a jobbing butcher and dealer. Info- mation to be given to the Head Constable, Police Office, Maidstone, Kent. — Bow- street, April 7. Stolen out of a paddock at Parsons- green, Fulham, ou the night of the 20th ultimo : a dark chestnut Mare, 13 hands 2 inches high, silver mane aud tail, mane short, tail long, large head, roman nose, thick neck, broad chest, deep shoulder, long back, light in belly, one hind heel white, and catches the near hind leg, had a thick rough coat, rising 3 years old. Information to be given to C. Parker, owner, 6, Upper Cheyne Row, Chelsea, S. W., by whom £ 5 reward will be paid on ap » prehension and conviction of the offender, and recovery of the mare.— Bow- street, April 7. Stolen between 6' 30 p. m. on the 27th and 8 a. m. on the 28th ultimo, from a field at Bromley : a brown horse Pony, 19 years old, 12 hands high, rough coat, long tail, broken winded, mane hangs on near side.— Metropolitan Police, P Divi- sion, April 4. Stolen between 7 p. m. on the 30th aud 5 a. m. on the 31st ultimo, from a field at Dulwich : a chestnut Horse, aged, 12 hands high, white face and legs, short tail.— Metropolitan Police, P Division, April 4. Description of a man charged with stealing, on the 26th ultimo, at Bury, two Horses, two sets of Harness, and a Cart ( recovered) ; he offered the horses and harness for sale for sale to Mr. William Paris, horse dealer, 7, River- street, Mid die ton- square, London, and he left the cart at a public- housc near Stockport, Lancashire : he is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark swarthy complexion, dark hair, small dark whiskers, the lower p? rt of his face is thin, and tapers from upper jaw to chin ; dressed in dark blue overcoat, dark vest and trousers, and had on a hair watch guard with gold key attached. Information to be given to Superintendent Milne, County Police Office, Bury, Lancashire. — Bow- street, April 4. Description of a man charged with stealing at Heap, cn the 28th ultimo, a Horse ( recovered) : about 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, light brown hair, and dark whiskers under chin ; dressed in a dirty sleeved vest, cotton cord trousers, black billycock hat, and strong lace- up boots. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Milne, County Police Office, Bury, Lancashire.— Bow- street, April 4. Stolen about the 26th or 27th ultimo, from a field at the Whitehouse, Eastnor, Hereford : a black mare Pony, aged, about 13 hands high, very strong made, and a rough long coat, the property of Mr. Meacham, Whitehouse. Informa- tion to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Shire Hall, Hereford, or to Superintendent Blunsdon, Police Station, Ledbury, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, April 2. Supposed stolen on the 28th ultimo, from a field at Bed- worth, the property of Mr. George Clarke : a black mare Pony, 5 years old, 13 hands high, tail cut, with high action ; and a brown cob Pony, 4 years old, 13| hands high, long mane and tail, white star on forehead. 10 P O L I C E GAZETTE. Description of JOHN SHELTON, chared on a warrant with stealing seven Choppers, the property of his masters, Messrs. H. and W. McKellow, at Brighton, in January last, the Choppers have been recovered: about 19 years of age, about 5 feet 6 iuches high, slight made, light complexion, light hair, slightly inclined to curl, and has a scar on upper lip; generally dressed in a brown coat, cord trousers, black cap, with peak and fur round the back, or he may ba dressed iu a black suit, as he is supposed to have taken one with him when he left Brighton. Is likely to be employed at a woodsellers. Information to be given to Chief Constable White, Town Hall, Brighton, Sussex.— Bow- street, April 10. Stolen during the night of the 8th instant, from a lodging house, in Shiffnal, Salop, the property of John Fenney, hawker, of Shrewsbury : a browu rough Jacket, nearly new, two pockets on hips, oue inside left breast, one outside right breast, pockets lined with dark lining, brown buttons, black braid on sleeves; a dark check cotton Shirt; a red cotton Handkerchief, with white spots; a pair of Spectacles and Case; a pedlar's Certificate, granted by Chief Constable Davies, ot Salop, to Feuney, endorsed for Staffordshire, Cheshire, Mold, and Shropshire. By a man, about 21 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, light complexion, no whiskers, full face, and hair cut short. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Richardson, Wellington, Salop. — Bow-. sfeet, April 10. Stolen from the dwelling- house of Patrick Murray, Market- street, ltugeley, about 4 p. m. ou tho 6th instant: a light- coloured Overcoat, velvet collar ; a pair of light tweed Trousers; a Waistcoat; a light- coloured round Jacket; a large brown Scarf ; a pair of top Boots ; and a light- coloured Sc^ rf. By a man who said he was a native of Shropshire, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 iuches high, light hair, light complexion, no whiskers or beard ; dressed in an old tweed suit, and samtuy hat. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Disney, Forebridge, Stafford, or to Sergeant Goddard, Police Station, Rugeley, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, April 9. Description of WILLIAM HODGKISS, who is charged with stealing £ 40, the monies of Samuel Nathaniel Cook, a ladies outfitter, his master : he is 22 years of age, 5 feet 5 or C inches high, thin face, dark brown hair, very slight whiskers, pale complexion, of a smart aud active appearance; dressed in dark long overcoat, aud billycock hat. Informa- tion to be giveu to Chief Superintendent Glossop, Birming- ham, who holds a warrant for his arrest. - Bom- street, April 0. Stolen early on the morning of the 7th instant, from a lodging- house iu Runcorn : a blue clotjh shooting Coat; a pair of dark tweed Trousers and Vest, nearly new: a pair of worsted Socks : and a pair of elastic- side Boots, with buttons down front, has been repaired on outside of soles. Brewer she is about 48 years of age, 6 feet 3 inches high, dark wavy hair, dark complexion, gipsy looking, thick lips, large nose with scar on it, sometimes hawks baskets aud mats, but has lately been travelling with a few oranges ; has a pair of_ steelyards, and protends to deal iu rags and bones ; is a native of Pair- light near Hastings, and is well known iu Kent and Sussex. Stolen at Swindon on the 5th instant, by a man about 25 years of age, 5 feet 6 iuches high, dark complexion ; dressed in dark coat, cord trousers, hard rouud hat, which he wears a little backward; has been working as a mason's labourer, but stated he was a carpenter by trade : a carpen- ter's Flag Basket containing the following Tools, chiefly stamped on the handle ' C. Linsey :' oue Hand Saw, one small Tenon do., an Oilstone and Cab, Screwdriver, large Hammer, two small do., four Chisels, Iron Chisel, Template, Chalk Reel and Line, File, Bradawls, Gimlets, & c. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent North, Wilts Constabu- lary, Swiudou.— Bow- street, April 7. Stolen from Cassia Lodge, Marton, near Northwich, on the 27th ultimo, the property of William Turner, Esq. : A gold lever stop Watch, with iudependent seconds hand, also four small dials on the face, oue showing the day of the month, two that keep ordinary time, ami one that has ordinary seconds, also a hand that revolves five times in a secoud, makers Hunt and lioskell, Manchester, No. 10366. A gold lever half- huutiug Watch, engine- turned cases, crystal centre, blue or black enamelled figures on the outside case, maker Hammond, Manchester, No. 4 | 4632. A strap and buckle gold and platina Chain, attached was a gold swivel Seal, with red stoue, impression— the Gorgon's head, a spade ace Guinea, and a Half- guiuea. A gold Piu, stag's head with antlers. A gold Pin, horseshoe, with turquoise studs. By WILLIAM ROACH, the butler, an Irishman, 35 years of ige, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, sallow complexion, brown hair, brushed up aud parted duwn back, no whiskers, imperial ou chin, crooked nose ; dressed in black clothes and soft felt hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Mayho, Tarporley, Cheshire.— Bow- street, April 4. Stolen on the 27th ultimo, from Old- street: £ 55 in Gold, a £ 10 Bauk of England Note, and a £ 5 ditto. By a man, 32 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, dark complexion and hair ; dressed m light overcoat, black trousers aud vest. — Metropolitan Police, G Division, April 4. Description of a mau charged with stealing £ 3 5s. from the dwelling- house of Thomas Scarrott, iu the borough of tha 19th ultimo, oharged with stealing Fowls : he was sentenced to 2 month's imprisonment ou the 10th of Septem- ber, 1859, fov larceny, at Merthyr; and at the Usk Quarter Sessions, on the 31st of December, 1861, to 9 month's imprisonment, for inflicting grievous bodily harm ; aud has also been convicted on several occasions, of assaults on the police. Information to be given to Superintendent Philipps, Llandilo, or at the Chief Constable's Office, Carmarthen.— Bow- street, A pril 2. Description of SAMUEL HASNITT, shoemaker, charged with larceny : about 5 feet 7 or 8 iuches high, dark hair, no whiskers, slight dark moustache, cut mark on fore- head, and also on left arm ; dressed iu black coat and trousers,, and dark woollen muffler. He is most accustomed to children's work. Information to be given to Chief Con- stable Williams, Borough Police Office, Hanley, Staffordshire. — Bow- street, April 2. Absconded from Devizes, about 8 p. m. on the 25th ult., charged with stealing an old- fashioned German silver open- face Watch : a man, from 20 to 25 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, no whiskers, but may have a small moustache ; dressed iu a short slop, which buttons down the front, cord or fustian trousers, and old cloth cap.
