Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor most be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as thoBe from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. FORGERY. Charged on a warrant with forgery: GEORGE BID- WELL, alias BURTON, 40 to 42 years of age, about 5 feet, 8 inches high, black wavy hair, rather sunken grey eyes, i sallow complexion, bad teeth, stopped with gold on left side of lower jaw, whiskers and Leurd recently shaved off, rather strong built, and short neck. £ 500 reward. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police, 20, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- street, March 28. A warrant has been issued for the apprehension of ALFRED HARBOTTLE. charged with forging bank drafts and cheques, and obtaining money to the amount of .£ 800, who has absconded : he is a native of Newcastle- upon- Tyne, 23 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, black hair, short dark brown beard, whiskers, and moustache, small dark heavy eyes, nose broken, very flat at top and turned up at end, rather short- sighted, occasionally wears spectacles, droops his head a little when walking, and is a little knock- kneed ; dressed in a dark grey speckled cloth overcoat, grey tweed trousers with dark stripe down sides, round black hard felt half- sized hat, with ( probably) a Newcastle maker's name inside, and had a silver watch with long black ribbon or guard attached ; carried a striped carpet bag, believed to contain a suit of black clothes; he also had with him a rough black and white small check plaid, which he may probably be wearine, and two 14 lb. packets of Fry's cocoa iu wooden j boxes, about 18 inches long by 9 inches broad, one of which was covered with green American leather; he took from Newcastle £ 700 to £ 800 in gold. £ 25 will be paid to any person who will give such information as may lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender. Information to be given to Chief Constable Nicholls, Newcastle- on- Tyne.— Bow- street, April 4. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen at Leighton Buzzard, on the 29th instant, from the person : a detached silver lever Watch, maker Wright, ' Coventry ; and a gold albert Chain, with two Keys attached. Information to be given to Superintendent Clough, Leighton Buzzard, Beds.— Bow- street, March 31. Stolen from the person at the Lincoln Spring Races, on the 24th and 25th instant: a valuable massive gold scarf Pin, horse- shoe shape, set with six diamonds, emeralds, and rubies alternately, commencing with a diamond at one corner, and an emerald at the other. £ 10 reward will be given upon the restoration of the property, and conviction of the offender or offenders. A gold scarf Pin, with a greyhound's head painted on < rreen glass. £ 5 reward will be given upou the restoration of the property and conviction of the offender or offenders. A lady's gold lever Watch, engine- turned case, gold dial and figures, maker ' J. Usher, Lincoln' on caee. And au old silver Watch, cracked across the face. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, City Police Lincoln.— Bow- street, March 28. Stolen in Woodbridge, on the 21st instant, from the person of a gentleman, by a female : an old gold English lever Watch, raised gold figures, steel hands, maker Ablett, Ipswich; with a gold Albert, Locket with hair, Wedding Ring, and a Guinea attached. £ 5 reward will be paid on the recovery of the watch and apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to t* he Police, Woodbridge, Suffolk.— Bow- street, March 28. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. During the night of the 28th ultimo, the coach- house at the residence of W. Chinner, Esq., Fox Hills, Wombourne, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a grey tweed stable Jacket, a pair of top Boots, a pair of watertight' Boots, a pair of old blucher Boots, a polishing Brush, two stable Rubbers, and a grey and black plaid stable Cap. Also, on the same night, the saddle- room at the residence of W. Gibbs, Esq., Hampton Hill, Wombourne, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a red silk Pocket- handker- chief, and a pair of lady's skating Boots. Information to be given to Inspector McCrea, Tettenhall, or Sergeant Rushton, Trysull, near Wolverhampton, Stafford- shire.— Bow- street, April 4. Stolen by means of skeleton keys, from a dwelling- house at Heaton Chapel, between 6 and 8 p. m. on the 30th ultimo : a lady's gold lever Watch, inscribed on inside case ' Presented by J. < J. to Miss A. Gourdain,' had attached a gold Guard, snake pattern, with Seal, Key, Locket, and two gold Charms, one a small cannon and one a mortar ; also 18s. in Silver. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person who will give such in- formation as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property, on application to Superintendent Bent, Old Trafford, near Man- chester. — Bow- street, April 4. On the night of the 2nd instant, the dwelling- house of the Rev. S. N. Prance, Stapleford Tawney rectory, was broken into, and £ 9 in Silver; £ 1 10s. in Gold; 3s. in Coppers; au opera Glass, marked Serf Brussells ; and a memo Book, containing a list of new library books, stolen therein. A man going about the country offering flowers for sale is suspected : he was seen at 3 a. m. on Thursday coming from the direction of Tawney Rectory, and going towards Romford : he is about 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion ; dressed in dark coat, vest, and trousers, and a black wide- awake hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Simpson, Police Station, Epping, Essex.— Bow- street, April 4. Description of a drover who goes by the name of JACK, charged with breaking into the bar at the Boot Public- house, St. Alban's, on the morning of the 1st instant, and stealing Silver and Copper Monies, the property of the landlord : he is 26 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, rather full face ; dressed iu very ragged clothes, with cap without peak ;• he is well known in the county of Herts, and attends fairs aud markets as a drover. Information to be given to Super- intendent Pike, St. Alban's, Herts.— Bow- street, April 4. Description of JAMES HARAAKER, charged with breaking and burglariously entering a dwelling- house at Bradford, and stealing fifty Watches, forty Rings, and other Articles, ou the 27th ultimo : 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, black hair, eyes and moustache, the latter rather long and strong, and covers a blue mark on the lip, full broad forehead, and rather broad set; dressed iu dark suit, sealskin cap or round black hat. Information to be given to Chief Constable Grauhan, Bradford, Yorkshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 2. Between 8' 30 p. m. on the 28th and 8 a. m. on the 29th instant, a shop in the market- place, Rotherham, was broken into, and the following articles stolen therein: aoout two dozen silver Geneva Watches, various sizes, and engine- turned cases ; three gold Geneva Watches ; three dozen ladies' gold Keepers; three dozen gentlemen's gold Rings; two dozen gold Lockets ; a Case of gold Ear- drops on cards, cards can be identified ; a quantity of Knives, ivory and pearl handles ; and several other trinkets. Information to be given to Superintendent Gillett, Court House, Rotherham, Lancashire. — Brno- street, March 31. Stolen from a house at Old Trafford, by means of house- breaking, during the night of the 24th iustant: a lady's extra- sized sealskin Jacket, trimmed with brown fur, lined with brown quilted silk, and has a little sealskin inside the collar; and a sealskin Collaret, with animal's head. £ 10 reward will be paid to any person who will give such infor- mation as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property, on appli- cation to Superintendent Bent, Police Station, Old Trafford, near Manchester.— Bow- street, March 28. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between 11 a. m. and 6 p. m. on the 25th instant, the property of Luke Foskett, of Little Heath cottage, Great Berkhampstead : £ 1 iu Silver, and a Half- sovereign ; an old fashioned double cased German silver Watch, with gold albert Chain attached ; a woman's new black and white plaid Shawl, with long fringe, plaids about 3 iuches wide; an old wedding Ring, broken ; a small gold watch Ring ; a long silver watch Guard, and about 3 lbs. of uncooked Pork. Suspicion is attached to a tramp who was seen near the house on the afternoon of the robbery : about 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, light brown hair, no beard or whiskers ; dressed in black jacket and trousers, old Bhoes, worn down at heels, soft black billycock hat, turns up at sides, and dirty turn down shirt collar. Information to be given to Inspector Goodyear, Great Berkhampstead, Herts. — Bow street, March 28. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen between 6' 30 p. m. on the 27th and 8 a. m. on the 28th ultimo, from a field at Bromley : a brown horse Pony, 19 years old, 12 hands high, rough coat, long tail, broken winded, mane hangs cm near side.— Metropolitan Police, P Divi- sion, April 4. Stolen between 7 p. m. on the 30tli and 5 a, m, on the 31st ultimo, from a field at Dulwich : a chestnut Horse, aged, 12 hands high, white face and legs, short tail— Metropolitan Police, P Division, April 4. Description of a man charged with stealing, on the 26th ultimo, at Bury, two Horses, two sets of Harness, and a Cart ( recovered; ; he offered the horses and harness for sale for sale to Mr. William Paris, horse dealer, 7, River- street, Middleton- square, London, and he left the cart at a public- house near Stockport, Lancashire : he is abeut 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark swarthy complexion, dark hair, small dark whiskers, the lower pm of his face is thin, and tapers from upper jaw to chin ; dressed in dark blue overcoat, dark vest and trousers, and had on a hair watch guard with gold key attaehed. Information to be given to Superintendent Milne, County Police Office, Bury, Lancashire. — Bow- street, April 4. Description of a man charged with stealing at Heap, en the 28th ultimo, a Horse ( recovered) : about 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, light brown hair, and dark whiskers under chin ; dressed in a dirty sleeved vest, cotton cord trousers, black billycock hat, and strong lace- up boots. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Milne, County Police Office, Bury, Lancashire.— Bow- street, April 4. Stolen about the 26tli or 27th ultimo, from a field at the Whitehouse, Eastnor, Hereford : a black mare Pony, aged, about 13 hands high, very strong made, aud a rough long coat, the property of Mr. Meacham, Whitehouse. Informa- tion to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Shire Hall* Hereford, or to Superintendent Blunsdon, Police Station, Ledbury, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, April 2. Supposed stolen on the 28th ultimo, from a field at Bed- worth, the property of Mr. George Clarke : a black mare Pony, 5 years old, 13 usnds high, tail cut, with high action ; and a brown cob Pony, 4 years old, 13$ hands high, long mane and tail, white star on forehead. Also on the same date, from a field at Nuneaton, the pro- perty of Mr. John Barratt : a brown mare Pony, 2 years old, 13 hands high, newly shod ; and a cream coloured mare Pony, 3 years old, 12| hands high, with a curly coat. Information to be given to Superintendent Austin, Nuneaton, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, April 2. From a meadow at Redhill during the night of the 27th instant: a bay Cob Horse, 14J hands high, aged, blind of the near eye, with a white streak down the forehead, whiteon the near fetlock joint, lame, and in good condition. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Rogers, Redhill.— Bow- street, March 31. Stolen between the 25th and 27th instant, from a coal wharf iu Bury : a bay Horse, 7 years old, 16 hands 2 inches high, fore feet and near hind foot white, white stripe down face, and long black mane and tail; a dark bay Mare, aged, 16 hands 3 inches high, fore legs black, hind legs white, short mane, long tail, and white mark down fece ; two sets of cart Gearing, consisting two of Bridles, two Collars, two pairs of Hames, two Saddles ( brass plates on each saddle), two Brichens, one Backhand, and one Bellyband, all nearly new ; a new cotton Rope, about 3 yards long ; a Cart, with 6- inch red wheels, body painted blue, inside red, ' Samuel Deven.- port, Buckley Wells, Bury, Maker,' on a small iron plat ® on near side, and the owner's name ' John Halliwell, Coal Agent, Buckley Wells, Bury, Agent ta the Wigan Coal Company,' painted on the side boards; and a grey Horse Cloth, with ' J. H. B.' painted on it. Any person giving such information as shall lead to the apprehension and con- viction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the pro- perty, will receive £ 20 reward, on application to the Super- intendent of the County Police, Bury, Lancashire,— Bow- st., March 28. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen from Cassia Lodge, Marton, near Northwich, on the 27th ultimo, the property of William Turner, Esq.: A gold lever stop Watch, with independent seconds hand, also four small dials on the face, one showing the- day of the month, two that keep ordinary time, and one that has ordinary seconds, also a hand that revolves five times in a second, makers Hunt ami Roskell, Manchester,' No. 10366. A gold lever half- hunting Watch, engine- turned cases, crystal centre, blue or black enamelled figures on the outside case, maker Hammond, Manchester, No. 4 | 4632. A strap and buckle gold and platina Chain, attached was a gold swivel Seal, with red stone, impression— the Gorgon's head, a spade ace Guinea, and a Half- guinea. A gold Pin, stag's head with antlers. A gold Pin, horseshoe, with turquoise studs. Information to be given to Superintendent Mayho, Tarporley, Cheshire.— Bow- street, April 4. 7 Stolen on the 27th ultimo, from Old- street: £ 55 in Gold, a £ 10 Bank qf England Note, and a £ 5 ditto. By a man, 32 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, dark complexion and hair ; dressed in light overcoat, black trousers and vest. — Metropolitan Police, G Division, April 4. Description of a man charged - with stealing £ 3 5s. from the dwelling- house of Thomas Scarrott, in the borough of Stafford, where he had obtained lodgings, representing that he was an upholsterer, employed by Gillors and Co., London, and was working for the Earl of Harrow by, at Sandon Hall, which is false : about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stout build, dark hair, dark brown whiskers, beard, and moustache ; dressed in a suit of blue clothes, twilled pattern, hard felt hat, and elastic- side boots, a patch on the right side of right boot ; he is of respectable appearance, and speaks with the cockney accent. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Disney, Forebridge, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, April 4. Description of WILLIAM BISHOP, who absconded on the evening of the 19th ultimo, charged with embezzling the sum of £ 2 16s. 6d., the monies of his employer, Mr. James Watts, tobacco and cigar manufacturer, 14 , and 15, Snow- hill, Birmingham : he is about 2G years of age, 5 feet 5i inches high, light complexion, light straight hair, light beard and little whisker. He is supposed to have gone to London, and is a native of Kent. £ 5 reward will be given to any person giving such information which will lead to his apprehension. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Glossop, Detective Office, Moor- street, Birmingham, who holds a war- rant for his apprehension.— Bow street, April 4. The charge of embezzlement at Bacup, against WILLIAM BENTLEY SUTCLIFFE, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 31st ultimo, having been abandoned, he is not to be apprehended.— Bow- strcet, April 4. Absconded from Colchester on the 2nd instant, charged with embezzlement : JOHN BIGGS, a native of Colchester, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, slight build, dark brown curly hair, small whiskers, no moustache, fresh complexion, slightly deaf, and has a hesitation in his speech, which at times amounts to a stammer, especially when excited; he was some years in the employ of Mr. E. Ward, veterinary surgeon, of Colchester, and has also acted as a stoker at a steam brewery there for two or three years. Information to be given to Head Constable Downes, Town Hall, Colchester, Essex, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. - Bmo- strett, April 4. Further description of GEORGE WOOD WILLIAMS, alias SAMSON WOOD ALCOCK, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 26th ultimo, charged with stealing £ 9 10s. in Gold from the cottage of George Williams, Whitchurch : he has been apprehended and committed for trial at the next Salop General Quarter Sessions ; he is well known iu Longton, Staffordshire. Information to be given to Superintendent Haines, Whitchurch, Salop.— Bow- streit, April 4. Stolen in the borough of Middlesborough, on the 28th ultimo, the following property : a lady's small gold Geneva Watch, No. S212, maker Jacob Wilks; a gold Guard, with two Keys and Seal, with three stones, one red, one green, and the other white, attached. By WALTER CANALING, a native of Sheffield, a blade striker, 23 years of age, 5 feet 6 iuches high, fair complexion, brown hair, slight moustache, cut short, aud a crooked nose ; dressed in a black cloth shooting coat, dark vest, black striped trousers, made to fit tight, redish silk neckerchief round the neck, cloth cap, and fancy clogs, with brass eyelet holes. Supposed to be in company with a young woman called CHARLOTTE, a native of Sheffield, and had in their possession a small black aud tan dog, covered with cloth, and wearing a collar. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Middlesborough, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — B< yw- strcet, April 2. Further information respecting JOHN CAHILL, alias JACK THE TINKER, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 19th ultimo, charged with stealing Fowls : he was senteuced to 2 month's imprisonment on the 10th of Septem- ber, 1859, for larceny, at Merthyr; and at the Usk Quarter Sessions, on this 31st of December, 1861, to 9 month's imprisonment, for inflicting grievous bodily harm ; and has also been convicted on several occasions, of assaults on the police. Information to be given to Superintendent Philipps, Llandilo, or at the Chief Constable's Office, Carmarthen.— Bow- street, April 2. Description of SAMUEL HASNITT, shoemaker, charged with larceny : about 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark hair, no whiskers, slight dark moustache, cut mark on fore- head, aud also on left arm ; dressed in black coat and trousers, and dark woollen muffler. He is most accustomed to children's work. Information, to be given to Chief Con- stable Williams, Borough Police Office, Hanley, Staffordshire. — Bow- strcet, April 2. Absconded from Devizes, about 6 p. m. on the 25th nit, charged with stealing an old- fashioned German silver open- face VVatch : a man, from 20 to 25 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, no whiskers, but may have a small moustache ; dressed in a short slop, which buttons down the front, cord or fustian trousers, and old cloth cap. He is supposed to be a deserter from the 28th Foot, and may enlist again into another regiment. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Gibson, Devizes, Wilts.— Bow- street, April 2. Stolen on the morning of the 28th instant, from the dwelling- house of Edmund Steevens, at High Wycombe, Bucks, the property of William Clark : a black felt Hat, a white calico Shirt, a blue silk Necktie, and a pair of Braces. By WILLIAM PARKER, a militiaman, aud a native of Horton, in the county of Bucks, about 21 years of age, 5 feet 4V iuches high, dark complexion, no whiskers, brown hair, hazel eyes, and of sullen appearance; dressed in a blue monkey jacket, light cord trousers, and side- spring boots, which he also stole from the same house. Information to be given to Superintendent Sargent, High Wycombe, Bucks, who holds a warrant for his apprehensic n.— Bow- street, March 31. Stolen on the morning of the 28th instant, from a beer- house in St. Alban's : five Half Sovereigns, one pair of brown Trousers, with stripe down the side, one brown Vest, and one pair of spring- side Boots, nearly new. By ALEXANDER MARTIN, a blacksmith by trade, 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair and eyes, no whiskers ; dressed in the stolen clothes when he absconded, and wore a low crown black felt- hat He was in tie Royal Artillery on sick furlough, amd left his military clothing behind. Information to ue given to Superintendant Pike, St. Alban's, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 3L A warrant is issued at Tunbridge Wells, for the appre- hension of a woman charged with stealing the following property from two young women, under the pretence of telling fortunes : a waterproof Cloak ; a brown linsey Dress; two dark print Dresses ; a black cloth Jacket; a flannel Petticoat, marked ' J. P.;' a pair of cotton Drawers, marked ' J. P.;' a dark print Apron ; a pair of gold Ear- rings ; a brown woollen rep Dress ; a blue figured Dress; a grey woollen Dress, with black lace ; a dark print Dress, marked ' K. Brewer' on body ; three white Petticoats, two marked ' Kezia Brewer ;' a new flannel Petticoat, with linen band on top ; a Shift, marked ' K. Brewer ;' a pair of Drawers, same mark; a new night Dress, same mark ; 6} yards of new Calico, has been washed ; 5 or 6 yards of new Diaper ; one wrapper Apron ; a calico Apron ; a dark print Apron ; aud three white pocket Handkerchiefs, marked ' K. Brewer :' she is about 48 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, dark wavy hair, dark complexion, gipsy looking, thick lips, large nose with scar on it, sometimes hawks baskets and mats, but has lately Corporation April 4. Description of a man charged at Salford, with stealing on the morning of the 26th instant, a quantity of Jewellery and Wearing Apparel from his lodgings: he is a native of Germany, and speaks English pretty well with the German accent, from 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light brown hair, whiskers and moustache recently shaved off, round face, small red lump on left cheek bone, and broad shoulders; dressed at the time of the robbery, in a short cloth jacket, loose corduroy trousers, blue striped cotton shirt, billycock hat, lace- up boots, and leather leggings. He is a groom or stableman, and was known by the name of WM DORMOND, but has the alias of JOSEPH WALLER- STEIN and WILLIAM KREEMER. He was lodging with a German, from whose house he took the following property : 1 reversible paisley scarf Shawl, green ground on one side and scarlet on the other. 1 black cashmere ShawL 1 ditto ditto with lace round it. 1 man's , black cloth frock Coat. 1 black cloth Vest. 2 pairs of black cloth Trousers. 1 gold Breast Pin, the head of which consists of an oval shaped Locket in a swivel. 1 gold Breast Pin, with a frosted yellow- coloured stone. 1 Brooch, with silver rim, composed of different coloured stones, has been broken, and repaired with a small piece of brass at the back. 1 lady's gold Ring, set with a garnet stone, which is cracked, and two small white stones, set in silver, one of which is missing. An old- fashioned Watch, with brass cases, and an old silver verge Watch, both of which are out of repair. He has been convicted of larceny in the name of WILLIAM KREEMER, at Reading, in June, 1868, and was sentenced to three month's imprisonment; and was convicted at the same place, in October, 1868, and sentenced to 9 month's imprisonment, for a similar offence; he was convicted, of burglary at Bourn, in November, 1869, and sentenced to 2 years and 7 years' police supervision ; and at Lincoln, in March, 1870, and was sentenced to 6 months and 7 years' police supervision.
