The Names of Persons charged widj Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. O. %* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of tho Offence charged, and an attosted oopy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor mast be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Mihtia, as well as those from the regular Army, inteudod for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. FORGERY. uncooked Pork. Suspicion is attached to a tramp who was seen near the house on the afternoon of the robbery : about 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, light brown hair, no beard or whiskers ; dressed in black jacket and trousers, old shoes, worn down at heels, soft black billycock hat, turns up at sides, and dirty turn down shirt collar. Information to be given to Inspector Goodyear, Great Berkhampstead, Herts. — Bow- street, March 28. On the 23rd instant a burglary was committed at Hurley near Maidenhead, and the following property stolen : one gold Snuff- box, about 3 inches long and if deep, embossed on the outside ; one silver Cork- screw, of Dutch make, made in the shape of a seal handle, having the figure of a rabbit at one end, when the figure is unscrewed the cork- screw appears; one silver Tea- spoon, of the reign of Queen Anne; one small round silver Basket, about 3 or 4 inches in circumference ; one small silver Ladle, open work at the bottom ;, one silver Mustard- spoon ; one very small silver Tray, stamped at the bottom ; one Maltese Cross ; one small two- bladed Knife, ivory handle ; one ditto Ditto, malachite handle ; one ditto Ditto, pearl handle ; and brass Letter- weights, from £ lb. to I oz. Information to be given to Superintendent Iremonger, Berks Constabulary, Maidenhead.— Bow- street, March 20. Stolen from a gentleman's house in Victoria Park, Wavertree, betwesn 10 p. m. on the 18th and 7 a. m. on the 19th instant, the following property, viz : 2 silver pint Cups, with glass bottoms, engraved ' Childwall Pigeon Club Match, 6th July, 1870, two shooters, won by William Johnson'; a silver goblet Cup, marked ' J. O. J'; a'ditto marked' F. S. B. J.' a ditto marked • W. G. J. from C. W. H.' ; a silver Cup, marked ' E. E. J.'; a ditto marked ' L. B. Stolen on the 13th instant, from a field at Wandsworth- common : a chestnut Horse, 15 hands high, 4 years old, hind legs and face white, small white spot on off hind quarter. — Metropolitan Police, V Division, March 21. Absconded from Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, on the lltli instant, charged with forgery: FREDERICK PERRY, clerk, a native of Chelvers Coton, Warwickshire, 19 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, dark Information to be given to Superintendent Fowler, Prescot, at the Police Office, Wavertree; or at the Central Police Office, Dale- street, Liverpool.— Bow- st., March 24. Further information respecting the robbery at Stoughton Grange, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 7th instant. Description of a man charged with the offence : about 40 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, rather stoutly made, little or no whiskers, and no moustache. Was at Nottingham on the 1st instant, at which time he had a beard of several eyes, brown hair, light moustache and whiskers ; dressed in on tne isc instant, a grey suit, black necktie with blue edges, round black felt growth. It is supposed that he will be wearing some of hat, and sidespring boots ; has been traced to Keysoe, Bed- the stoIeu clothea> as iie ' eft behind him at the place of the fordshire, where he stated he was making his way for London, robbery an old short dark tweed coat, a double- breasted A photograph can be lmd on application. Information to be : ™ stlau waistcoat with white pearl buttons, and a pair of given to Superintendent Poole, Police Station, Welling- 1 fLlstaui trousers with raised seams down the sides, and white borough, Northamptonshire, who holds a warrant for his Pearl buttons. The clothing had been much worn, and the apprehension.— Bow- street, March 17. trousers on the front of each thigh were burnt with sparks, aud were very black and swarthy. He is supposed to have committed similar robberies in Nottinghamshire on the night of the 28th ultimo, and was then wearing a black billycock hat; is supposed to be accompanied by a woman, and has a carpet bag with him. A reward of £ 5 will be paid to any person or persons giving such information as will lead to the apprehension aud conviction of the person described as above. Information to be given at the County Constabulary Office, Leicester, or to Superintendent Burdett, Aylestone, near Leicester.— Bow- street, March 24. During the night of the 20th instant, the dwelling- house of George Shaw, of Rippondeu in Soyland, was broken aud entered, and the following articles stolen therein : a blue pilot cloth Overcoat, two pockets outside, black velvet collar, covered buttons, and nearly new ; a black cloth Jacket, two pockets outside, and one inside left breast, horn buttons, collar strap with ' John Mortimer, tailor, Ripponden' in gilt letters written thereon, aud nearly new ; a pair of striped grey cloth Trousers, dark broad stripes down the sides, with fall fronts ; one pair of blue and two pairs of grey Stockings; and a pair of old elastic- side Boots, women's size, has a small hole cut iu the hollow part of one boot. Information to be given to Superintendent Ormsby, West Riding Constabulary, Halifax.— Bow- street, March 24. During the night of the 17th instant, a store room at Oxley House, Bushbuiy, was broken into and stolen therein : a double barrel muzzle loading Gun, maker Aston, Birming- ham, back action locks, ha? a dent on left hand barrel, near the muzzle ; a pruning Knife, with dark buck- horn haft. Information to be given to Inspector McCrea, Tettenhall, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, March 21. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person at the Lincoln Spring Races, on the 24th and 25th instant : a valuable massive gold scarf Pin, horse- shoe shape, set with six diamonds, emeralds, and rubies alternately, commencing with a diamond at one corner, and an emerald at the other. .£ 10 reward will be given upon the restoration of the property, and conviction of tho offender or offenders. A gold scarf Pin, with a greyhound's head painted on green glass. £ b reward will be given upon tho restoration of the property aud conviction of the offender or offenders. A lady s gold lever Watch, engine- turned case, gold dial and figures, maker ' J. Usher, Lincoln' on cane. And an old silver Watch, cracked across the face. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, City Police, Lincoln.— Bow- street, March 28. Stolen iu Woodbridge, ' on the 21st instant, from the person of a gentleman, by a female : an old gold English lever Watch, raised gold figures, steel bauds, maker Ablett, Ipswich ; with a gold Albert, Locket with hair, Wedding Ring, aud a Guinea attached. £ 5 reward will be paid ou the recovery of the watch aud apprehension and conviction of the offender or offeuders. Information to be given to the Police, Woodbridge, Suffolk.— Bow- street, March 28. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen from a house at Old Trafford, by means of house- breaking, during the night of the 24tli instant: a lady'a extra- sized sealskin Jacket, trimmed with brown fur, lined with brown quilted silk, aud has a little sealskin inside the collar ; and a sealskin Collaret, with animal's head. .£ 10 reward will be paid to any person who will give such infor- mation as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property, on appli- cation to Superintendent Bent, Police Station, Old Trafford, near Manchester.— Bow- street, March 28. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between 11 a. m. and G p. m. on the 25th instant, the property of Luke Foskett, of Little Heath cottage, Great Berkhampstead : £ 1 in Silver, and a Half- sovereign ; an old fashioned double cased German silver Watch, with gold albert Chain attached ; a woman's new black and white plaid Shawl, with long fringe, plaids about 3 inches wide; an old wedding Ring, broken ; a small gold • watch Ring ; a long silver watch Guard, and about 3 lbs. of HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen between the 25th and 27th instant, front a coal wharf in Bury : a bay Horse, 7 years old, 16 hands 2 iuches high, fore feet and near hind foot white, white stripe down face, and long black mane aud tail ; a dark bay Mare, aged, 16 hands 3 iuches high, fore legs black, hind legs white, short mane, long tail, aud white mark down fece ; two sets of cart Gearing, consisting two of Bridies, two Collars, two pairs of Hames, two Saddles ( brass plates on each saddle), two Biichens, one Backhand, aud one Bellyband, all nearly new ; a new cotton Rope, about 3 yards long ; a Cart, with G- inch red wheels, body painted blue, iuside red, ' Samuel Deven- port, Buckley Wells. Bury, Maker,' on a small iron plate on near side, and the owner's name ' John Halliwell, Coal Agent, Buckley Wells, Bury, Agent to the Wigan Coal Company,' painted on the side boards; and a grey Horse Cloth, with ' J. H. B.' painted on it. Any person giving LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded from Ironbridge, Salop, on the 21st instant charged on a warrant with embezzling the Bum of £ 10 10s. at the parish of Broseley, the property of John W. Yates, his employer : ALFRED SMITH, a clerk, about 21 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light brown hair, little or no whiskers, has rather weak and full eyes ; dressed when last seen in a grey jacket and waistcoat, dark blue ribbed cloth trousers, and hard round hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Ivins, Bridgnorth, to Sergeant Thomas, Police Station, Much Wenlock ; or at the Police Station, Ironbridge, Salop.— Bow- street, March 28. Absconded from Macclesfield on the evening of the 24th, instant iharged on a warrant with embezzling £ i 14s., re- ceived by him for and on account'of his masters : CHARLES WILLIAM NYREN, 17 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, high cheek bones, light hair; speaks ner vously and walks quick ; dressed in blue pilot cloth overcoat, black frock coat, black cloth vest, dark striped trousers, black felt hat, and lace- up or elastic- side boots, and carries a small cane or bamboo with a sword in it ; he is a clerk, and it is most likely he will seek a situation as such. Information to be given to Chief Constable Etchells, Macclesfield, Cheshire. - - Bow- street, March 28. Absconded on the 21st inst., from Oxford- st., stealing the sum of £ 41, the money of his master : a youth 17 years of | age, 5 feet 3 inches high, dark complexion and hair ; dressed in pepper and salt coloured pea jacket, ditto vest, and black ' cord trousers, discoloured at knee, black felt hat.— Metropoli- tan Police, D Division, March 26. Stoleu during the night of the 20th instant, from an out- house at Helinsley, the property of Thomas Meldowney : one pair of pepper and salt coloured cloth Trousers, with fly fronts, a black billycock Hat, a white flannel under Shirt, all man's size, and about 8 lbs. of black Horsehair, tail ends. By an Irishman, about 35 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, fail- complexion, small features, brown hail-, no whiskers, slender figure, and shuffling walker, he is a tailor, tramping the country, ifrequents low lodging houses, and occasionally makes boys caps, which he hawks for sale ; dressed in a black cloth shooting coat, with pockets on the hips, and supposed to be wearing the stolen trousers and hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Metcalfe, Malton, or to Inspector Milner, North Riding Constabulary Office, Kirby Moorside. — Bow- street, March 2G. Absconded from Aberpergwm, Glyn- Neath, on the evening of the 21st instant, charged on a warrant with em- bezzling money, the monies of his master, Morgan Stuart Williams, Esq. : JOHN RICHARD PHILLIPS, a clerk, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, pale complexion, dark hair and whiskers, clean shaven chin, rather inclined to be stout, the little finger of right hand hooked, a native of Ystradguulais, Breconshire ; dressed in a brown cloth over- coat, dark cloth trousers, and a black bowler hat. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Howlett, Constabulary Office, Neath, Glaruorgau.— Bow- strcet, March 26. Description of HENRY PALMER, who is charged with stealiyg a quantity of Jewellery and Wearing Apparel, the property of John Pritchett, of 67, Freeth- street, Bir- mingham, on the 16th instant : he is about 28 years of age, 5 feet G inches high, light complexion, no - whiskers, slight moustache ; supposed to be dressed in dark striped trousers, and blue cloth coat. Information to be given to Chief Superin- tendent Glossop, Birmingham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 26. Description of GEORGE WOOD WILLIAMS, alias SAMSON WOOD ALCOCK, states he is a native of Whit- more, near Newcastle- under- Lyme, Staffordshire, charged with stealing from a cottage iu the parish of Whitchurch, on the 13th instant, £ 9 10s. in Gold : he is 54 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, oval face, grey hair, long behind, large grey whiskers and moustache ; dressed in jimcrow hat, dark mixture cloth shooting coat aud vest, woollen cord trousers, and elastic- side boots ; had marks of paint upon his vest; he is very talkative, aud obtains lodgings aud board by stating that he has a lot of men working in the neighbour- hood painting aud decorating gentlemen's houses. March 28 Stolen between 10' 30 a. m. and 11 p. ru. on the 21st inst., from Mornington Villas, Wanstead : 2 DreBses ; 3 Jackets ; a Frock; a childa' velvet Jacket.-- Metropolitan Police, N Division, March 26. Absconded on the 22nd instant, charged with embezzling the sum of .£ 56, the money of his master : a man 20 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, sandy hair, cut close ; dressed in brown overcoat, dark trousers, hard felt hat, walks slowly. — Metropolitan Police, N Division, March 26. A warrant has been issued for the apprehension of GEORGE FEATHERSTON, of Brenchley, Kent, for em bezzling the sun of .£ 4 lis. 2d. on the 10th ultimo, tlie monies of his master Mr. Thomas Manwering, of Breuchley : he is about 40 years of age, 6 feet high, dark complexion, hair aud whiskers ; dressed in velveteen shooting coat and vest; he was forman in a nursery, works as a labourer, aud was formerly iu the Kent Constabulary. Information to bo given to Superintendent Dance, Tonbridge, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 24. Description of FRANZ NEUHAUSER, charged at Greenock, under a Sheriff's warrant, with stealing 3 new silver Watches, from a jeweller's shop, on the 13th instant : he is a native of Germany, a jobbing jeweller, 32 to 34 years of age, 4 feet 9 or 10 inches high, slender made, light brown hair, pale complexion, fair whiskers and moustache, beard ali grown and covering great part of face ; dressed in dark short coat and vest, dark tweed trousers, and shabby looking black felt hat, hands aud face usually rather dirty. He carried on business for some time in Glasgow, as a jobbing jeweller, speaks English, is married to a woman belonging to Dublin, and who is said to be still residing in Argyle- street, Glasgow. Description of Watches : three new silver lever Watches, white dials, steel hands, Nos. 7160, 65,293, and 3891. Infor- mation to be given to Robert Blair, Esq., Procurator- Fiscal, Greenock, or to Superintendent Dewar, Police Chambers, Greenock.— Bow- street, March 24. Description of JOHN SIMMONS, charged on a warrant with stealing Materials for two pairs of boots, the property of his master William Payne, at Brighton, iu October last : about 30 years of age, father short, has little or no hair on his face, rather sallow complexion, working shoemaker, In- formation to be given to Chief Constable White, Brighton. — Bow- street, March 24. Between September last and the 17th instant, MYLES CARROLL, late manager cf a boot and shoe shop at Jarrow, embezzled divers sums of money belonging to his master, Mr. Scotter, boot and shoe merchant, Neivcastle- on- Tyne, and absconded on the 12Lh instant; he had formerly been employed as manager in similar shops in Newry, Dundalk, Armagh, Belfast, and Cork, he also kept a clothes shop iu Glasgow, where bis wife and family at present reside : he is from 35 to - 10 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, fail- Stolen from 113, Mill- street, Crewe, about 6' 30 a. m. on the 19th instant: a black cloth dress Coat: a dark cloth Waistcoat, double breasted, and has light spots in it; a pair of black cloth Trousers, and a pair of dark brown Braces. By a man who obtained lodgings there the previous night : about 27 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, stoutish build, large head, sallow complexion, dark hair and eyes, on whiskers, but a small moustache, has a large dimple in the chin, and has lost several front teeth ; dressed in dark cloth trousers, with two patches on the seat, dark brown cloth jacket and waistcoat, black billycock hat, old puce woollen shirt, with a hole in each elbow, and a pair of elastic side boots. A lodger wrote a letter for him to a beer- house in Jewel- street, Manchester, which house he said a relative kept, he stated that he had obtained employment at a saddler's, in Mill- street, Crewe, which was false, he also stated that he had been working at Nantwich, he says he is a saddler, but looks more like a shoemaker. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Laxton, Nantwich, or to Inspector Morris, Police Station, Crewe, Cheshire.— Bow- street, March 21. Absconded from Boxmore, Heuiel Hempstead, on the morning of the 12th instant, charged on a warrant with em- bezzling .£ 305, received by him for and on account of his master : CHARLES LIDDON HOWARD, late traveller and collector to Mr. W. H. Lavers, timber merchant : 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark hair, a few whiskers on each side of his face, clean shaved chin, pale face, carries his head a little foward, and looks on the ground ; dressed in dark clothes and high black hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Isgate, Hemel Hempstead, Herts, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 19. Absconded, charged with forgery under Belgian Extra dition Treaty: FIRMIN CONSTANT DUFOUR, alias VANPOORTEN, alias. CONSTANT VANNIKER, Belgian, 23 years of age, but looks older, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, proportionately built, fair complexion, hair, and mous tache, ( slight), beard and whiskers which are bushy towards chin, well dressed, speaks English fluently ; has a large white curly dog, kept the Queen's Arms public- house in Oxford- street, and the Norfolk Arms, Half- moon - crescent, Caledonian - road. Has a wife whose maiden name was Eugenie Vanderstracten, about 22 years of age, 5 feet i inches high, fair complexion, brown hair ; generaly wears a pink rosette, and sealskin jacket. They may take a public- house iu the country, or make their way to America. Wanant at Detective Department, Great Scotland Yard, — Metropolitan Police, March 19. IN! advertised in the Police Gazette of the 7th instant about 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, rather stout, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, no whiskers, light brown moustache, supposed shaven off; usually dresses in a dark grey overcoat, rather worn, light cloth trousers, and hard felt hat: is a native of Basingstoke, aud belongs to lst Class Army Reserve ; served several years in the 17th Brigade Royal Artillery. Information to be given to Superintendent Dunham, Police Court, Slough, Bucks, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 24. he has been convicted, in the name of WM. KREEMER, at Reading, in June, 1868, of larceny, 3 months ; at Reading, in October, 1868. of larceny, 9 months; at Bourne, in No- vember, 1869, of larceny, 1 month; at Lincoln, in March, 1870, of burglary, 2 years and 7 years' police supervision and at Derby Assizes, in July, 1872, of burglary, 6 months and 7 years' police supervision; he is now charged with failing to report himself at the latter place, in accordance with the Prevention of Crimes Act, 1871. Description of PETER OWEN, who was sentenced to one month's hard labour, at Appleby Gaol, on the 12th inst., for begging, and on being searched was found to have £ 6 16s. 6jd. upon him, amongst which was a 20- dollar gold Piece of the United States ; also two Rugs, one an old grey, bound with black braid, the other in very good condition, red, yellow, black, and grey check, with a wide stripe across both ends with the same colours combined, about 5 inches from the edges ; also a black, blue, grey, and red plaid Shawl, with fringes ; the whole of which he says he bought in Liverpool. Description of license- holder JOHN HAMLIN, No. 9863, who has failed to report himself at Chapel- en- le- Frith Police Station, as required by Section 8 of the Prevention of Crimes Act: he is 61 years of age, 5 feet high, sallow complexicn, brown hair and whiskers round the chin, bald on top of head, grey eyes, lost all his front teeth, large bleeding marks on right arm, scar on forehead, mole under right eye, and cut on second and fourth fingers of left hand ; dressed in dark grey suit, much worn, and black billycock hat ; a labourer. He was convicted of arson at the Derby Assizes, December, 1868, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude, was liberated from Dartmoor Convict Prison, on the 6th of December, 1872, and left the district without giving proper DOtice ; he has since been in Wakefield and Derby Gaols, 14 days' each, for drunkenness, and was discharged from Derby Gaol on the 3rd instant. Supposed by a painter, who had worked at the place about twelve monthsago, when the shop was then broken into ; a painter's knife was left behind and an old pair of elastic- side boots, also'a pair of the stolen slippers were found in a building near ; he is said to have come out of gaol about a month ago, for larceny at St. Helen's : he is about 26 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, dark complexion and hair, strong dark eyes, and no whiskers; dressed in dark cloth clothes and billycock hat; he is a native of Nantwich or Northwich, Cheshire. M. Green,' the name of the gentleman to whom they belong. They were all in calico bags and smoke- dried when taken away, it is suspected that they may be sold to some provision dealer in London, or some other town.
