Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to ME. C. *„* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all ILetters addressed to the Editor mtJSt be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Olfico, Poll Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. Charged with arson at the Girl's Reformatory School, Lochburn, Maryhill, on the 27tli ultimo, GRACE TAYLOR, 14 years of age, stout make, full face, and dark hair, cut square with top of shoulders, has a rolling gait; dressed in a blue print dress and lace- up boots. She absconded when undergoing a sentence of two years for theft, on the above date ; she told some of her companions she intended to make her escape and go to England. Information to be given to Inspector Anderson, Police Chambers, Maryhill.— Bow- street, December 11. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen about 4' 15 p. m. on the 27th ultimo, from the per- son at Woodside Railway Station : a gold keyless Watch, maker Chambers, inscribed, ' T. P. from his sister, M. Negro- ponte, 16th February, 1869,' monogram' T. P.' outside, a small long curb gold Albert Chain attached.— Metropolitan Police, W Division, December 6. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Description of THOS. FLACK and JAMES REEVES, alias WINKS, of Abridge, iu the parish of Lambourne, labourers, charged with breaking and entering a building within the curtilage of the dwelling- house of Wm, Krailing, at Abridge, baker, on the 8th instant, and stealing a i- ewt. weight of Coal : Flack is 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark brown hair aud eyes, and fresh complexion ; sup- posed to be dressed in a pepper- and- salt tweed coat, or white slop with blue guerusey underneath, cord trousers, cap, red neckerchief tied closely round neck, and heavy lace- up boots; and Reeves is 22 j ears of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, light hair, grey eyes, aud swarthy complexion ; dressed in a white slop or fustian sleeved waistcoat, cord trousers, cap, and heavy lace- up boots. Both men are well known at Loughton and Chigwell, aud are generally iu compauy with hay carters and dealers. Informatiou to be given to Super- intendent Simpson, Police Station, Epping, Essex, who holds the warrent for their apprehension..— Bow- street, Dcc. 13. Description of a man charged with having broken aud entered the dwelling- house aud shop of Johu Wandall, ou the 6th instant, at Frieston, and stealing two Half- sovereigns, about i,' l in Silver, 6s. or 7s. in Coppers, aud three pairs of boy's blue worsted Stockings : about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, browu or sandy whiskers round the throat, aud combed back from the chin ; dressed iu a black billycock hat, cord jacket, long leather leggings above the knees, and boots, which have small nails round the soles, three rows of diamond- headed nails in the middle, nine iu each row, and large square nails in the heels, supposed new. Information to be given to Superintendent Thorsby, Skirbeck Quarter, Boston, Lincolnshire— Bow- street, Dcc. 11. On the night of the 5th instant, between 10 p. m. and to a. m. the dwelling- house of Mr. F. Winter, at Bonwick, in the parish of Skipsea, in the East Riding of York, farmer, was burglariously entered by unlocking the catch of the front room window with a butcher's knife which was left behind, and the following property, belonging to Mr. Winter and the servants, Btolen therein : five pairs of men's Boots, strongly made, laced- up in front and nailed, one pair nearly new, and some of the others have been recently soled ; three pairs of light- made Boots, two have elastic- sides and are much worn ; two pairs of women's Boots, both new, one pair strongly made and lace- up in front, the others lightly made aud elastic- sides; three Top Coats, one a rough drab cloth, lined with red plaid, such as are worn by farm servants, and the liuiog across the back has been repaired with some other material, one a blue pilot cloth, made short, and in good con- dition, the top button has been removed inwards, sewn on with twine, the other is a dark pepper- and- salt coloured tweed cloth, lightly made, and not lined at the back, had two pairs of Gloves in the pockets ; a grey mixture cloth Jacket and Vest, much worn ; a harding Apron ; and two pairs of short leather Leggings, one pair patent leather and much worn, both fasten at the sides with straps and buckles. Two pairs of old boots were left behind, strong made, and lace- up iu front. Information to be given to Superintendent Wright, East Riding Constabulary, Police Station, Leven, Yorkshire. — Bow- street, December 11. Stolen by housebreaking, between 2 and 4 p. m. on the 5th instant, from 10, Wilson- road West, Shepberd's- bush : seven Spoons ( six Tea, one Mustard), a pair of Sugar Tongs, a Sugar Sifter, all silver, marked ' J. m B.;' eight gold rings, two Wedding, two Mourning ( set with pearls, hair in centre), one with six pearls and small diamond in centre, one set with amethyst, one with head of a man raised in silver ( Foreign make), one with hair in centre ; seven gold Brooches, one with elaborately worked frame ( containing the bust of a female in red coral), one enamelled ( with painted female figure), two oblong ( set round with pearls, hair in centre), one set with small amethysts and pearls ( hair in centre), one twisted ( set with garnets), one with dark stone ; two gold Lockets, one oval, set with pearls, one set with turquoise ( both containing hair) ; three Neck Chains, two gold ( link pattern), one composed of cowrie shells, with silver links and gold clasps ( Foreign make) ; a gold Maltese Cross ; a pair of gold Ear- rings, set with turquoise ; a pair of gold Wires ; a a pair of gold Eye- glasses; a silver Eye- glass ; a gold Seal, with flower and ' Forgct- me- not.' engraved thereon ; a gold Watch Key, with two etones ( one yellow, one white); a silver Pencil- case; a silver Thimble; and three £ o Bank of England Notes.— Metropolitan Police, T Division, Decem- ber 11. Between 12 midnight and 7 a. m. on the 8th instant, the residence of W. H. Leatham, Esq., J. P., at Hemsworth, iu the West Riding of Yorkshire, was burglariously entered, and the following property stolen therein : 1 massive silver Testimonial, in the form of a pedestal, with emblems— Commerce, & c., and inscription engraved ' Presented by the Electors and Non Electors of the Boro. of Wakefield.' 1 silver Inkstand, marked ' M. L. to P. L.' 1 silver Snuff Box, inlaid with pearl, date 160 — the other figure obliterated. 2 silver chased Napkin Rings, one marked ' W. H. L.', the other ' E. E. L., from P. L.' 4 silver Inkstand Tops. 1 silver Paper Knife. 1 silver Paper Knife, with silver haft, with the residence of Sir Walter Scott printed on blade. 1 silver gilt Vinaigrette, perforated. 1 light grey thick sac Overcoat, light velvet collar, lined with black and white check flannel, si Lie sleeve lining, two pockets outside. Supposed by a man, about 27 years of age, about 5 feet 5 ins. high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, cut short ; dressed when last seen in a large blue rough cloth overcoat, shabby black cloth shooting coat underneath, knitted woollen vest over his waistcoat, magenta and white woollen scarf, drab cord trousers, fitting tight, dark woollen cap, with peak of same material, button on top, and two narrow braids round head. A reward will be paid on his apprehension aud con- viction. Information to be given to the Chief Constable of the West Riding of Yorkshire ; to Superintendent Sykes, Barnsley; or at any of the West Riding Police Stations.— Bow- street, December 11. Further iuformation respecting the robbery at Llanfi- hangel Court, ou the 27th ultimo, advertised iu the Police Gazette of the 2nd. instant: most of the stolen property has been found pledged in Pontypool, by a man of the following description and giving the name of WALTER PITT, froiii 30 to 36 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, stout made, fair complexion, dark hair and whiskers round the face, large drooping ears, and thick lips ; dressed iu a dark monkey jacket, rioleskin vest and trousers, round black hat, slight cotton shirt with spots ; states he was a blacksmith by trade, a native of Herefordshire, and works as a labourer. He was convicted at Hereford Quarter Sessions for stealing two cows, and also at Usk Quarter Sessions in January, 1867, for stealing a box of wearing apparel and a watch, aud sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude. £ 10 reward will be paid on his apprehensiou and conviction. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, or to Superintendent Freeman, Abergavenny, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 11. Between 8' 30 p. m. the 4tli, and 6' 30 a. m. on the 5th inst., the house of Henry Cherry, Water Stratford, was entered and stolen therein : a pair of labourer's new heavy watertight Shoes, nailed with square hob nails, have been worn once, the bottom lace- holes were made by a gimlet ; also a buck- horn handle double- bladed pocket Knife. Information to be given to Inspector Andrews, Maidsmoreton, Bucks.— Bow- street, December 9. Between 8 30 p. m. on the 6th and 5- 30 a. m. on the 7th inst., the office at Ward- street Cotton Mill, was feloniously entered, and three brawn paper Parcels, containing 56 dozen of gold plate Bobbins were stolen from a desk. Whoever wiU give such information as will lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders, will receive £ 2 reward, on application to Chief Constable Potts, Town Hall, Blackburn, Lancashire. - - Bovi- street, December 9. Between 6 and 9 a. m. on the 3rd instant, the dwelling- house of Joseph Gough, of Little Wenlock, Salop, was broken into by forcing a hanging lock of the door, and stolen therein : an old brown leather Purse, fastens with a steel clasp, torn down the outside, and fastened together with a pin, containing one Sovereign and four Half- sovereigns. Information to be given to Supt. Richardson, Wellington, or to Sergeant Turner, Madeley, Salop.— Bow- street, December 6. Stolen from the dwelling- house of the Rev. Wm. Green- street, of Winterboume, near Bristol, by means of burglary, on the night of the 4th inst. : a pocket Communion Service, silver- gilt; a silver Mustard Pot; a silver Caddy Spoon, shell pattern ; two silver Salt Spoons; a silver Mustard Spoon ; a silver Tea Spoon ; a silver Sugar Spoon ( some of the spoons are marked ' L.') ; and about £ 2 or £ 3 in Silver I and Coppers. Information to be given to Superintendent Rawle, Fishponds, near Bristol, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, j December C. Stolen by means of shopbreaking, during the night of ! the 4th or morning of the 5th instani, the following Articles of Wearing Apparel: fifteen skirts, two scarlet, two blue, two violet, two maroon, two ht grey, two dark grey, one best brown, one fawn drab, c. e slate- coloured, all Lest wing cloth and embroidered ; a grey Skirt, embroidered with scarlet ; six grey Skirts, plain braided ; six pairs of women's grey ribbed clerical casbmere Hose. The offender or offenders left behind them a Brace and a joiner's Chisel. Information to be given to Chief Constable Richardson, Police Office, South Shields, Durham.— Bow- street, December 6. Stolen on the morning of the 30th ultimo, by means of housebreaking, at West Hurley : two tweed Coats, very old, also two Blankets. A man of the following description was seen near the house carrying a bundle and is suspectej.;' about 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, stoutly built^ very red face, dark hair and beard, about a week's growth ; dressed in long dark coat, cord trousers, high black hat, and purple muffler round his neck. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Barker, Surrey Constabulary, Guildford.— Bow- street, December 6. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a field at Chetwynd Villa, near Newport, Salop, ou the night of the 9th instant: a bay horse Pony, 6 years of age, 10 or 11 hands high, has a few white hairs on forehead, in good condition, and rough coat ; the property of Wm. Thomas, Esq., of Chetwynd Villa. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Richardson, Wellington, or to Sergeant Christie, Newport, Salop.— Bow- street, December 13. Stolen from a field at Blower's Green, during the night of the 3rd or morning of the 4th iustant : a light brown horse Pony, 5 years old, about 14 hands high, one white hind foot, and white star on forehead. £ b reward will be given on conviction of the offender or offenders. Informatiou to be given to Chief Superintendent Burton, Police Office, Dudley. — Bow- street, December 13. Stolen at 7 p. m. on the 29th ultimo, from High- street, Kiugslaud, a grey Horse and spring Van, painted brovrn, Daniel Livermore, carter, Bishop Stortford, Herts,' on side and front; also two Tarpaulings.— Metropolitan Police, N Di- vision, December 11. Found at Basingstoke on the 4th instant, supposed to have been stolen, a black rough long- coated mare Pony, about 3 years old, about 12 hands high, black long tail reaching to the ground, long mane, small white star on forehead, and rather grey face and nose. Information to be given to Head CoLstable Hibberd, Basingstoke, Hauts.— Bow- street, Decem- ber 11. Stolen from Sittingbourne during the night of the 5th inst., a black mare Pony, aged, 11 hands high, rough coat, white star ou forehead. Information to be given to Super- intendent Mayne, Police Court, Sittingbourne, Kent.— Bow- street, December 9. Stolen from a field at Kirby- Grindalyth, between the 20th ultimo and the 4th instant : ten Lambs and two small shearling Gimmers, the lambs are marked with pitch on the near side ' T. P.', have a round hole punched through the centre of far ear, the gimmers will also have a dot of ruddle upon the shoulder, and the wethers upon the loir, the two shearling gimmers are marked ' T. P.' on the near side in pitch, aud a dot of ruddle on the shoulders, the property of Mr. Thomas Parker, farmer, of Kirby- Grindalyth. £ 10 reward will be paid by Mr. Parker to any person or persons giving such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, if stolen, and, if strayed, any one finding the same and restoring them to Mr. Parker, will have all reasonable expenses paid. Information to be given to Superintendent Long, East Riding Constabu- lary, Norton.— Bow- street, December 9. Charged with stealing a Horse, Cart, and Harness, from Rochester, on the 27th ultimo : a man of the following description— 22 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, light hair, no whiskers, small tuft of hair under his chin, and face very much pimpled ; dressed in old black frock coat, torn at the sleeves, old brown ribbed trousers, and tweed tight- fitting cap. Has lately followed the occupation of a fish • 2 P O L I C E GAZETTE. December 13 hawker. Information to be given to Head Constable Radley, Rochester, Kent.— Bow- street, December ' 9. The dark brown cart Mare stolen from Beoley, the pro- perty of Job Bate, and advertised iu the Police Gazette of the 2nd instant, has teen found, and a person of the follow- ing description is charged with stealing the same : about 19 years of age, 5 feet G inches high, light brown hair, no whiskers, pale face, turns his toes out when walking, and is in- kneed ; dressed in a new grey and black mixed tweed suit coat with velvet collar, and new black top hat. Infor- mation to be given at the Police Station, Kings Heath, near Birmingham.— Bow- strset, December St. Stolen from a field at Handsworth, on the night of the 4th instant, a brown cob Mare, 14 hands high, 5 years old, with black points. If stolen, £ 5 reward will be paid to any person living such information that may lead to the convic- tion of " the offender or offenders and recovery of the mare. Information to be given to Sergeant Richards, Police Office, Handsworth, Staffordshire, or at any police oilice in the county.— Bcnc- street, December 9. Stolen between the 5th and 6th instant, from a field at Cwmdyllean Farm, in the parish of Llanidloes, five fat Welch wether Sheep, three years old, marked ' E. I.' with pitch on left side ri" ht ear cut off at the point and slit in the middle, a nip cut off lower . side of left ear, the property of Mr. Evan Jones of Cwmdyllean. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Newfowu, or to Sergeant Owen, Llanidloes, Montgomeryshire.— Boui- street, November 9. Stolen between 5 p. m. on the 30th ultimo, and 9 a. m. on the 1st instant, from a piece of enclosed forestland, near Smith's Retreat, Chigwell- row : a light bay Mare, aged, 13 hands high, black mane and tail, no shoes, in good condi- tion.— Metropolitan Police, K Division, December 0. Stolen from Boxmoore, Hemel Hempstead, Herts, on the property of Moses Williams, at Sheerness, on the 2nd instant : he is about 20 years of age, i feet 3 inches high, freBh com- plexion, full face, no whiskers, and short dark hair ; dressed in the stolen clothes, which are new; a native of Charles- street, Hackney, Loudon, where his father carries on the business of a stone mason. He deserted from the Royal Naval Barracks, at Sheerness, on the 2nd instant, I lforma- tion to be given to Superintendent Mayne, Kent County Constabulary, Sittingbourne, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 11. Absconded on the 2nd instant, from 52, High- street, St. Pancras, charged with stealing £ 28 9s.: a man, 19 years of ige, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion, light hair, and no whiskers; dressed in a blue pilot jacket, speckled trousers and vest, and deerstalker hat; friends reside at Peterborough. — Metropolitan Police, S Division, November 11. Absconded from Ely, Cambs, on the 6th instant, charged with stealing a couple of tame Rabbits, the property of Mr. Lewis Finch, at Stuntney, in the parish of Holy Trinity, Ely : HENRY PAGE, 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, very bushy dark hair, good- looking, and scar or burn mark on left breast; dressed \ yhen last seen iu a white slop, fustian trousers, black cap with peak, nearly new, and strong lace- up boats ; he is a native of Great Shelford, and bolongs to the Cambs Militia. Information to be given to Superintendent Lantsbury, Ely, Cambs, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, December 11. Charged on a warrant with embezzling £ 200, of David Storrar, oil and colour merchant, Sydney- street, Glasgow : ROBERT KAY INGLIS, cashier, about 34 years of age, about 6 feet high, auburn hair, whiskers, moustache, and beard ( scanty), narrow shoulders, spare build, takes short steps when walking, weak eyes, and prominent nose ; dressed in a dark tweed suit, light brown overcoat, satin hat, occa- sionally wears a jerry hat, dark scarf, and large elastic- side v —. . 1... .* . .1: i . Absconded from Woolwich Barracks, charged with steal- ing £ 70, a man of the following description : 36 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, complexion fresh, hair and moustache ( turning grey) brown ; dressed in a brown Chesterfield over- coat, velvet collar, and brown and black striped trousers aud vest. Stolen from Scarcliffe- lanes, near Mansfield : a brown Colt, rising 4 years old, overreach on near fore foot, a little white on hind feet, shod on fore feet only. When apprehended he gave the name of EDWARD WALKER, St. Mary's, Portsmouth; it has since been ascertained that he was convicted at Hertford in 1859, in the name of FREDERICK YOUNG, at Maidstone, for felony; in 1861 for uttering counterfeit coin ; at the Central Criminal Court in 1863 for receiving stolen goods, in the name of Joseph West, and was discharged on a ticket- of- leave at the Central Criminal Court in 1- 871 for burglary, and sentenced to 9 months in the name of ALFRED COOK. Two men who had been working on the Scarborough and Whitby new railway was drinking in the house during the day have since absconded, supposed taking the Gun with them. One, named SAM, is about 24 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion and hair, proportionate figure, a burn mark on left side of under lip and lip drawn down ; dressed iu brown cloth coat, fustian trousers and vest, and strong laced boots, and supposed dark cap.
