Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signatare of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. O. %* Whenever it is desired that any person Bhould be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor most be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. Ou the night of the 17th or morning of the 18th ultimo, some evil- disposed person or persons] did wilfully and mali- ciously attempt to set fire to Song Mill, at Delph, in the occupation of Messrs B. Onely and Co., Manufacturers, by putting through the mill window a piece of prepared pitch aud powder, 14 inches long and 5 inches wide, with a fuse attached to it, and wrapped in brown paper. £ 100 reward will be paid to any person giving such information ( private or otherwise) as will lead to the apprehension and couviction of j the offender or offenders. Information to be given to | Inspector Sykes, Police Office, Saddleworth, York.— Bow- st., December 4. On the night of the 23rd instant a Fire was discovered in a barn ( which was consumed) at Wolsey Grange, Esher, the property of R. Few, Esq., supposed to have been the act of an incendiary. A reward of £ 50 will be paid to any person ( ex- cept the person who actually set it on tire) who will g; ive such information a9 shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Bungard, Surrey Constabulary, Chertsey. — Bow - street, November 25. FORGERY. Charged with forging a cheque for £ 38 10s., upon Wm. Williams, Brown, and Co., Leeds : a man, about 22 years of age, about 5 feet 7J inches high, medium build, light complexion and hair, and slight moustache ; dressed in a dark shooting coat, grey trcusers, and black felt round hat, and a blue overcoat. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Leeds.— Bow- strM, November 29. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen about 4' 15 p. m. on the 27th ultimo, from the per- son at Woodside Railway Station : a gold keyless Watch, maker Chambers, inscribed, ' T. P. from his sister, M. Negro- ponte, ltith February, 1869,' monogram' T. P.' outside, a small long curb gold Albert Chain attached.— Metropolitan Police, W D ivision, December 6. Description of a woman charged with stealing from the pei- sou, ou the night of the 23rd ultimo, a jean Purse, con- taining about £ 4 in Gold and Silver : about 21 years of age, light hair, very light complexion, and round face; dressed in paisley shawl aud black liat ( which were left in the hands of the prosecutor in a struggle) ; she was some time since in company of a travelling tinker and bell hanger, who is about 23 years of age, short, thick set; who joined the Beverly Militia about 2 years since, and is supposed to have been with her at the time of the robbery ; she is the daughter of a travelling scissor grinder, known as ' Old Ryle.' Infor- mation to be given to Head Constable Roberts Town Hall, Louth, Lincolnshire, who holds a warrant for her apprehen- sion.— Bow- street, December 4. Stolen from the person of Matthew Evans, drover, at 7 p. m. ou the 28t'u ultimo, at Llanfyllin Fair, a Purse, con- taining a £ 5 Note of the North and South Wales Bank, and £ 4 in Gold. By a woman, of middle age and size, and dressed in a hat, brown dress, aud shawl. She was seen in company with a short, smart, well- dressed middle- aged man, who wore dark clothes and a low- crowned hat. They came to Llau- fyllin by train at 6 p. m. Information to be given to Super- intendent Strefford, Welshpool, or to Police Constable Wil- liams, LlanfylUn, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, Dec. 2. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between 6 and 9 a. m. on the 3rd instant, the dwelling- house of Joseph Gough, of Little Wenlock, Salop, was broken into by forcing a hanging lock of the door, and stolen therein : an old brown leather Purse, fastens with a steel clasp, torn down the outside, aud fastened together with a pin, containing one Sovereign and four Half- sovereigns. Information to be given to Supt. Richardson, Wellington, or to Sergeant Turner, Madeley, Salop.— Bow- street, December 6. Further information respecting the robbery at Llanfi- hangel Court, on the 27th ultimo, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 2nd instant: most of the stolen property has been found pledged in Pontypool, by a man of the foll « wing description and giving the name of WILLIAM, from 30 to 36 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, stout made, fair complexion, dark hair and whiskers round the face, large drooping ears, and thick lips ; dressed in a dark monkey jacket, noleskin vest and trousers, rouBd black hat, slight cotton shirt with spots ; states he was a blacksmith by trade, a native of Herefordshire, and works as a labourer. £ 10 reward will be paid on his apprehension and conviction. In- formation to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, or to Superintendent Freeman, Abergavenny.— Bow- street, Dec 6. Stolen from the dwelling- house of the Rev. Wm. Green- street, of Winterbourne, near Bristol, by means of burglary, on the night of the 4th inst. : a pocket Commuuion Service) silver- gilt; a silver Mustard Pot; a silver Caddy Spoon, shell pattern ; two silver Salt Spoons; a silver Mustard Spoon ; a silver Tea Spoon ; a silver Sugar Spoon ( some of the spoons are marked ' L.') ; and about £ 2 or £ 3 in Silver and Coppers. Information to be given to Superintendent Rawle, Fishponds, near Bristol, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, December 6. Stolen by means of shopbreaking, durintf the night of the 4th or morning of the 5th instani, the following Articles of Wearing Apparel: fifteen Skirts, two scarlet, two blue, two violet, two maroon, two light grey, two dark grey, one best brown, one fawn drab, one slate- coloured, all best wing cloth and embroidered ; a grey Skirt, embroidered with scarlet ; six grey Skirts, plain braided ; six pairs of woman's grey ribbed clerical cashmere Hose. The offender or offenders left behind them a Brace and a joiner's Chisel. Information to be given to Chief Constable Richardson, Police Office, South Shields, Durham.— Bow- street, December G. Stolen on the morning of the 30th ultimo, by means of housebreaking, at West Hurley : two tweed Coats, very old, also two Blankets. A man of the following description was seen near the house carrying a bundle and is suspected ; about 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 incnes high, stoutly built, very red face, dark hair and beard, about a week's growth ; dressed in long dark coat, cord trousers, high black hat, and purple muffler round his neck. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Barker, Surrey Constabulary, Guildford.— Bow- street, December 6. Description of EDWIN SALT, painter, Longton, Staffordshire, charged with breaking into the dwelling- house of John Cooper, at Nantwich, Cheshire, on the 21st ultimo, and stealing £ 35 in Gold : he is 27 years of age, 5 feet 6 ins. high, stoutish, fresh complexion, blue eyes, light brown hair, cut mark back of right hand; was convicted at Stafford March Assizes, 1872, for stealing Lead, and sentenced to six calendar mouths, discharged from Stafford Gaol on the 10th September last. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Laxton, County Police, Nantwich, Cheshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 4. Between 10 and 11 p. m. ou the 28th ultimo, the dwelling- house of Mr. Frederick Warren, baker, at Kings- Langley, was entered, and the following property was stolen therein : £ 30 in Gold, one Silver Tea Pot, a patchwork Cushion, lined with green damask, and four silk tassels attached. Corrected description of masonic Jewels stolen, vide Police Gszette, 27th ultimo : lst, a royal arch Jewel, medium size, white silk ribbon aud Piu attached ; 2nd, Knight Templar, gold cross, with red enamel, black Ribbon aud Piu attached ; 3rd, Knight of Malta silver gilt Cross, with white enamel, black Ribbon aud Pin attached ; 4th, Knight of Knife and Fork ; six silver Toddies; six ditto Tea Spoons ; two ditto Salt Sellers ; a ditto Wine Strainer; three small old- fashioned silver Tea Spoons, marked ' H.'; a silver plated seltzer water bottle Rack ; a ditto cream Jug ; a silver salad Spoon and Fork ; two ditto desert Knives, with pearl handles ; a ditto plated cake Knife ; a ditto sardine Fork, with ivory handle ; a glass Mustard Pot, with silver top ; and a brown morocco pocket Book, containing a cheque Book, and some importaut Papers. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Gillett, Court House, Rotherham, York. — Bow- street, December 2. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between 11 a. m. and 2 p. m. on the 28th ultimo, from the dwelling- house of John Skipsey, of Jerveaux, in the North Riding of Yorkshire : a black cloth shooting Coat, two pockets outside and one inside left breast; a black cloth Vest; a pair of black and grey striped Trousers, nearly new; a grey cloth shooting Coat, two pockets outside and one inside, black wooden buttoas ; a pair of Trousers and Vest, same material, much worn ; a light Vest, with blue flower; and an old cord Vest, with fustian back and jean sleeves ; all men's size. Supposed by a tramp of the following description, who was seen begging in the neighbourhood the same day : about 30 years of age, ! about 5 feet 8 inches high, stout build, light hair and whiskers, and fair complexion ; dressed in fustian jacket, cotton cord trousers, and ( supposed) black cap. Stolen by means of housebreaking, during the night of the 2Gth instant, from the shop of Halliday and Thompson, ' ironmongers, Dumfries: nine gold lever Watches, Nos. 54931, 49213, 76253, 57601, 8513, 6262, 55423, 28757, and 34191 ; six Swiss Watches, two silver, Nos. 11032 and 4177, four gold, Nos. 2738, 1767, 645, and 1129; twelve silver lever Watches, Nos. 8288, 5064, 20595, 18716, 16294, 16295, 9785, 11040,1693, 61158, 6544, and 56258 ; a second hand silver Watch, No. 2027 ; about 100 finger Rings; 40 to 50 gold Chains and Alberts; a Cash Box, containing £ 21 in Notes and Silver ; a number of gold and silver Watches ; gold Lockets, Brooches, and Ear- rings ; Receipt Retired Bills, & c. A man of the following description is charged in connection with the above : about 27 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, dark hair, broad face, dark complexion, black whiskers and beard of medium length, no moustache, well made, square shouldered, spoke good English, but supposed to be a Scotchman ; dressed in a wideawake hat, dark overcoat, grey trousers, and supposed grey vest. £ 25 reward. Information to be given to Superintendent Malcolm, Dumfries.— Bow- street, November 29. Between 6 and 8 p. m. on the 24th instant, the dwelling- house of Sarah Northwood, situate at Wordsley, in the parish of Kingswinford, and county of Stafford, was entered, and the ; following property stolen therein : six silver Tea Spoons, marked ' A. T.'; a silver Geneva Watch ; £ 1 16s. 3d. cash. Iuformation to be given to Superintendent Mills, Police Office Brierley Hill, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, November 29. Stolen by housebreaking between 1 and 6.30 p. m. on the J 20th instant, from Victoria- road, Twickenham : two Brace- lets, one plain gold band, set with amethyst and eight pearls, and one gold spring, chased ; four gold Rings, one signet with bloodstone, engraved ' M. A. S. P.,' one small with row of seed pearls, and one of turquoise, one small wire, with four j imitation stones, one thick indian, chased, snake pattern, with ruby eyes; a gold Seal, chased with amethyst stone, sham- rock engraved thereon, attached with other trinkets ; a gold Ring ; three Lockets, one black enamel, one blue ivy- leaf pattern, and one chased ; a silver masonic Star, red stone in centre, encircled by word ' Excelsior ;' a silver card Case, chased, monogram ' MASG' in centre, ' Mrs. D. C. M. Gordon' on rim ; a set of gold Studs ; two gold scarf Pins, one with carbuncle stone bearing masonic emblems ; an old- fashioned Bilver cream Jug, engraved ' G.;' a small loaf of Bread ; and a pound of Butter.— Metropolitan Police, T Division, Nov. 27. with figure of a pelican under a crown and between a pair of Compasses, on the other side are same emblems, on dead white ground, a red silk collar, with gold patent clasp at back, and swivel in front attached ; 6th, Knight of East and West, ( 17th de^ ee), octagonal ornament, about 1 j inch across, red enamel in centre, with figure of a lamb holding a flag, characters all round, the reverse side much the sumo, white silk collar, with clasp and swivel attached ; 7th, Knight of Rome, ( sovereign degree), crown above a cross, ' Alpha' on one side, ' Onieija' on the other side of across, in Greek characters, purple ribbon attached ; 8th, Rosecrucian Knight, lozeage shaped, ornament in white enamel, with red cross, dark green Ribbon and Pin attached. Also stolen, three scarf Pius, one set with pearls, one dead gold, and one with pearl in centre; a set of waistcoat Buttons; a set of Studs with breast Pin ; a large gold Locket, horse shoe on'one side, formed of pearls and pink coral, plain on reverse side, thiniature of a lady enclosed, gold pendant attached.— Metropolitan. Between 12 midnight aud 6 a. m. on the 29th ultimo, the dwelling house of Mr. George Haywood, Moorgate, Rother- ham, was broken and entered and stolen therein : a silver fish HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen between 5 p. m. on the 30th ultimo, and 9 a. m. on the lst instant, from a piece of enclosed forestland, near Smith's Retreat, Chigwell- row : a light bay Mare, aged, 13 hands high, black mane aud tail, no shoes, in good condi- tion.— Metropolitan Police, K Division, December 6. Stolen from Boxmoore, Hemel Hempstead, Herts, on the 3rd instant, a Horse aud Cart of the following description : the horse is about 14 hands high, dark brown, white stripe down the face, recently clipped, broken winded, aged ; the cart is new, painted dark, sea colour, with the name ' James Sanders, dealer, Ivinghoe.' By a man dressed in dark clothes, middle height, and very dark hair, about 50 yeara of age ; carried with him a brown bag, containing books, was seen at Watford and at Kilburn. Stolen from Scarcliffe- lanes, near Mansfield : a brown Colt, rising 4 years old, overreach on near fore foot, a little white ou hind feet, shod on fore feet only. Stolen from a stable at the Portway, Beoley, during the night of the 30th ultimo : a dark brown cart Mare, aged, over 15 hands high, white mark inside both fore- feet, white streak down the face, and saddle mark upon back : the property of Job Bate. Information to be given at the Police Station King's Heath, near Birmingham.— Bow- street, December 2. Stolen from a field in the parish of Hallaton, Leicester- shire, on the 13th instant : two Heifers, one red and white, the other black, with a white spot on forehead ; and a red and white Steer, all about 2 years old, the property of Mr. William Peck, of Hallaton. information to be given at the County Constabulary Office, Leicester, or to Inspector Good- man, East Norton, Leicestershire.— Bow- street, November 29. Stolen on the night of the 19th instant, from a field at Willey- court, township of Willey, near Presteign, Hereford- shire : a black gelding Donkey, about 8 or 9 years old, has a wart mark on right hip, and one on the brisket, tail cropped, and the letter ' B' burnt on his hoofs, in good condition. Information to be given to Superintendent Dykes, County Police Station, Leominster, or to Sergeant Bound, Police Station, Wigmore, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, November 29 Description of GEORGE HAYES, charged with stealing a Pony, at Ryhope Colliery, on the 2() th instant, which has been recovered: he is 21 or 22 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 ins. high, dark complexion, thick lips, dark brown hair, small whiskers and moustache, proportionate figure, a labourer, lost half of one of his thumb nails, supposed right, has been in the training stables, is fond of music, aud is a native of Glouces- ter ; dressed in a blue pilot cloth Jacket, dark grey trousers, with black stripe down the outside of each leg, vest of the same material, black felt hat, black tie, and elastic- side boots. Information to be given to Superintendent Thompson, Hough- ton- le- Spring, Fence Houses, Durham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, November 27. Stolen on the night of the 12th instant, from a farmyard at Shaftnor End, near Barley, Herts, the property of Mr. Wilkerson, farmer : a red aud white polled Cow, 6 years old, in good condition, gives milk from three teats, and is half time gone in calf. Information to be given to Superintendent Cocksedge, Royston, Herts.— Bow- street, November 27. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded on the 27th ultimo, charged with embezzling the sum of .£ 200, the money of his masters' oil merchants, Soutliwark- street, Southwark : a man, 24 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, a front tooth in upper jaw broken, lisps; dressed in dark cutaway coat and vest, grey trousers, black silk hat, turned up at brim. — Metropolitan!' cilice, M Division, December 6. Absconded from Lewes on the 22nd ultimo, charged with stealing a quantity of wearing Apparel, which has since teen recovered, DAVID BAXELL : about 21 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, fresh complexion, pockmarked, brown hair, and proportionate make ; dressed in an old brown cloth coat, old militia trousers, old cap, and very old shoes. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, or to Superintendent and Deputy Chief Con- stable Peacock, Lewes, East Sussex, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 6. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Preston, on the 3rd instant : a black cloth Suit; a pair of light Trousers, with fly fronts ; a dark oloth Vest, double- breasted ; a dark cloth Coat, two pockets outside and one inside left breast; and a brown silk Umbrella. By a man who took lodgings at the house, on the 30th ultimo, he gave the name of JOHNSON, and stated he was a clerk in the Manchester and County Bank, in Corporation- street, Manchester, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, dark complexion, and squints with left eye ; dressed in blue overcoat, and wideawake hat. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Oglethorpe, Borough Police Station, Preston, Lancashire.— Bow- street, December 6. Description of THOMAS JACKSON, alias GREEN, charged with stealing from the dwelling- house of Samuel Price, of 132, St. John's- terrace, Normanton, on the 23rd ult., the following articles : a silver lever Watch, No. 4478, since recovered ; a black cloth Waistcoat; a flannel Shirt; a Muffler ; and a pair of lace- up Boots : he is 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, blue eyes, brown hair a coal miner, has been in the army, and discharged for bad conduct, and has letters ' B. C.' on one side, and ' D.' on the other, branded with ink ; dressed in black cloth coat, light tweed trousers and vest, white billycock hat, and lace- up boots. Information to tie given to Superintendent Hall, Wakefield, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 4. Absconded from Hove, charged with stealing a large Copper, a man of the following description : about 34 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark complexion, high cheek bones, a bricklayer's labourer ; lie generally wears a red neckerchief. Information to be given to Chief Superinten- dent Breach, Town Hall, Hove, Sussex.— Bow- street, Decem- ber 4. Stolen from the dwelling- house of Thomas Wilkinson, at Aunesley, Notts, on the 25th ultimo : a blue pilot cloth Jacket; two brown calico Shirts, linen fronts and wristbands; a black and white woollen Neck Scarf; and a black billycock Hat. By a tramping collier who had been lodging in the house, whose name is supposed to be ARTHUR, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout build, light brown hair, sallow complexion ; dressed in a pilot cloth jacket, cord trousers, clog boots, and cap; marked with ' B. C.' on left side, and ' D. D. D. D.' on right side, has been a soldier ; he is likely to apply at pit banks for work. Information to be given to Superintendent Palethorpe, County Police Station, Nottingham, Notts.— Bow- street, December 4. Absconded from Trowbridge, Wilts, on the morning of the 29th ultimo, charged with stealing four brass beer- engine Taps, the property of Mr. Henry Messiter : a tramping brass- finisher, about 32 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark curly hair, small dark whiskers, shaved clean on the chin ; dressed in a dark jacket, black vest, and cord trousers, all much worn, and black jimcrow or bowler hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Harris, Police Station, Trow- bridge, Wilts.— Bow- street, December 4. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Bolton- le- Moors, on the morning of the 30th ultimo : a black cloth shooting Coat, lined with black stuff, black covered buttons, broad cuffc, FELONIES. ( Not otherwise described). A bsconded charged on a warrant with felony : SAMUEL. SIMONS, 4o yeara of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh com- plexion, bald head, thin face, black whiskers and moustache, small imperial, slim make; he formerly lived at 69, Sutfcon- street, Commercial- ioad. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police, 26, Old Jewry, London, E. C. — Bow- street, Deoember 6. with'three buttons on each; a black • cloth double- breasted Vest; a pair of blaok ribbed cloth Trousers, with fly fronts ; and a heavy gold albert Guard, with gold Seal attached. By a'Man, who had lodged at the house a few nights, who stated he had got a situation iu a bank in Bolton, and had held a similar situation at Manchester, about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, slender made, dark complexion, squints of left eye, aud has only one tooth at the front of his top jaw, which is at the right side of his mouth ; dressed in a black silk hat, md a brown cloth overcoat ; is of good address. Information to be given to Chief Constable Beech, Bolton. — Bow- street, December 4. Description of a licence holder, whose licence has been revoked, and who is to return to penal servitude for 18 months, when found : HENRY ANDERTON, 34 years of age, 5 feet 3Jj inchess high, flaxen hair, blue eyes, stout build, light complexion, cut mark end of left thumb, two small white scars back of neck, burn scar right hip, ruptured left side, is a cooper, and a native of Bilston, Staffordshire; dressed in dark cloth cap, old dark cloth coat, moleskin trousers, thick dark handkerchief round neck, and blucher boots. He was sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude at Cardiganshire Quarter Sessions, 1st January, 1867, and liberated on the 22nd of May last, from Portland Prison. He was discharged from Ruthin Gaol on the 23rd instant, having served a mouth for larceny, and lately he has been tramping in Ireland and Wales. He is accompanied by a youth named WILLIAM MORRISON, Irish, 19 years of age, tender grey eyes, projecting upper lip, and scar on back of left hand. They are very likely to be found visiting work- houses as casuals, or soon to be in some gaol, for begging or stealing, probably in some of the North Wales Counties or on the borders. Description of a man committed to Bedford Gaol, await- ing trial on two charges of burglary in the name of THOMAS FELL : he is 57 years of age, 5 feet 8£ inches high, dark hair and whiskers, bald on top head, high forehead, hazel eyes, dark complexion, rather round- shouldered, cut mark on left thumb and forefinger, upper front teeth lost, scar inside right hand and on right cheek, and near- sighted ; a Roman Cotholic. The name given above is false, and he suppresses all information about himself and friends, and refuses to state for whom or where he has ever worked. Since his committal to Bedford Gaol, it has been ascertained that he was convicted of burglary at the Aylesbury Assizes in 1864, in the name of JAMES BOYD, and sentenced to six months' imprisonment, on which occasion he is described as being 37 years of age, a button maker, and again as a currier on tramp, and a native of Stafford Supposed to be a returned Gddie. convict.
