O. * « * Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attestod copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, ail JLcUers addressed to the Editor mast be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Offico, Pall Mall, London, S. Stolen from the person at Banbury Fair, on the 17th ins., ( supposed at the Railway Station) : a large gold Geneva Watch, nearly new, white dial, No. 17131. Information to be given to Superintendent Osborn, Towcester, or Inspector Botterill, Brackley, Northampton. - Bow- street, October 25. Stolen from the person at the Great Western Railway Station, at Warwick, on the 19th instant: a silver lever hunting Watch, engraved cases, maker J. J. Durrant, London, No. 3533. A reward will be paid on the recovery of the watch, and conviction of the offender. Information to be given to Head Constable Hickling, Police Station, Warwick. - Bow- stred, October 25. Stolen on the 19th instant, from the person of Mr. Jonathan Wright, while iu Paradise- lane: a patent silver lever Watch, No. 1149 ; also a gold guard Chain, used as an albert. By a woman, about 25 years of age, full fresh face, fair complexion ; dressed respectably. £ 1 reward will be paid on conviction of the offender, and recovery of the property. Stolen on the 19th instant, from the person of George Wilding, while in King- street: a silver patent lever Watch, engraved on plate ' George Wilding, Blackburn a gold Albert, link pattern ; and a gold Locket, ill reward will be paid on the apprehension aad conviction of the offender or 1 offenders, and recovery of the property. Stolen from the person of a gentleman at Cambridge : a gold single- cased English lever Watch, maker Benson, London, No. 47491, plated Chain attached. £ 3 reward will be paid on conviction of the offender or offenders aud restoration of the watch. Information to be given to Head Constable Turrall, Borough Police Office, Cambridge.— Bow- street, October 18. BURGLARY A. ID HOUSE BREAKING. Between 9- 30 a. m. aud 12 noon on the 19th instant, the cottage of James Wolstenholme, at the Brick- yard, Stockton- ou- the- Forest, was brokeu aud entered, and' the following articles stolen therein : a black cloth Top- coat, with velvet collar, pockets each side, and one small pocket on the lfeft breast; a black cloth Coat ; a black silk velvet Waistcoat, lined with swansdown ; a black cloth Waistcoat; a pair of grey cloth Trousers, a pair of snuff- coloured cloth ditto, and a pair of pepper- and- salt- coloured cloth ditto, all made with narrow fall fronts, with only one pocket at the right hand side ; a pair of pepper- and- salt- coloured cloth Trousers, with broad fall front and pockets ; a grey woollen Shirt; a white llaunel ditto, opens iu front; three wbito cotton Shirts, linen fronts, marked ' J. Marsheal' on the right lap ; ttirec cotton Sheets; two blauket Sheets ; a ' small plaid shawl; a blue silk Neckerchief, with small white spots; a white silk Neckerchief; a red aud black Tableploth.; and a pair of flannel Drawers. Information to be given to Superintendent Hunter, North Riding Constabulary Office, Heworth.— Boic- strect, October 25. During the night of the 22nd instant, the saddle room at the farm of Mr. Bradshaw, at Hundleby, was broken into, and a double breech- loading Gun Stolen, central fire, a small flaw in one barrel, supposed the left, about 3 inches from the muzzle, has had a new screw through the locks, the head of which is rather small, ' West, Louth,' stamped between the barrels, has been converted from a muzzle- loader, and takes Ely's, No. 14 cartridge. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Richdale, Spilsby, Lincolnshire.— Bow- st., October 25. Stolen on the 16th instant, by means of housebreaking, from the house of Thomas Blackburn, of Shincliffe, in the county of Durham : .£ 36 in Gold ; £ 9 in Silver; a gold Watch, No. 7667, with cream- coloured face, recently bought of E. Freyd, Sunderland ; a silver watch Guard ; and two pairs of Boots, suitable for a boy 7 years old, one pair laced, one pair buttoned, the toes of the laced ones a little worn. Information to be giveu to Superintendent Dunn, County Constabulary Office, Durham.— Bow- strut, October 25. On the night of the 20th instant, the house of Miss Scott, Stourbridge, was entered, and the following property stolen therein : a gold keeper Ring, chased, much worn ; a pi. ir of gold Eye- glasses; four gold Rings, one set with pearls and garnets, another with a diamond and ruby, another with pearl and turquoise, and the other with dark brown hair ; a pair pair of gold Ear- rings, drop pattern ; and about £ 10 in gold and silver Money. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Freeman, Stourbridge, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, October 23. Stolen on the night of the 20th instant, from the beer- j house of Mr. John Gregson, 55, Penny- street, Blackburn, by | means of burglary : ,£ 40, consisting of Sovereigns, I ,£ 10 10s. in Crowns, the remainder in other silver ; a blue pilot Jacket, very much worn ; a pair of grey woollen knitted Stockings, much wohi; a white calico Shirt, has loops iu wrists and neck ; aud a wool plaid neck Scarf. By WILLIAM HINDLE, alias WILLIAM ENTWISTLE, a carter, about 24 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, thin face, slight dark maustache, dark brown hair, swarthy com- plexion ; dressed in a suit of dark clothes, black cap, and old shoes ; he belongs to the Bury Militia, has a wife and two children in Manchester; he left in the house a pair of soldier's boots, marked ' 2 B 8, 221, 2, ( months)— 70 ( year).' £ 3 reward will be paid for information which will lead to the arrest and conviction of the offender. Information to be given to Chief Constable Potts, Police Office, Town Hall, Blackburn, Lancashire.— Bow- street, October 23. Stolen at South Molton, on the 17th instant, by means of housebreaking : a Sovereign, a Half- sovereign, some Silver; and a large- size pair- cased silver Watch, niiuute haud broken, and inside case very hard to open, with a piece of Ribbon attached, maker Graham, No. 282. Supposed by a navvy, about 5 feet 9 inches high, thin face, light sandy whiskers ; dressed iu a dirty vhite slop, fustian trousers, and cap. In- formation to be jiven to Head Constable Fisher, South: Molton, Devonshire.— Bow- street, October 23. During the uight of the 16th or early on the morning of the 17th instant, the house of Mrs. Tunnaley, of London- rd., Derby, was burgliriously entered, and the following Articles stolen therein : a lady's gold Locket ; a gold Pencil- case, set with turquoise stones ; four Spirit Lables, marked ' Whisky,' ' Brandy,' ' Rum,' and ' Gin,' a bunch of grapes on each lable; a pair of small Sugar Bows, scissor shape ; six Table Napkin Rings, numbered from 1 to G ; a pair of lady's lace- up Boots, clump soles, brass eyelet- holes, small size; a brown cloth Overcoat, brown velvet collar; and a gold Eye- glass. Also during the night of the 15th or early on the morning of the 16th ins: ant, the house of Frank Crump, Driffield- rd., 1 Derby, was burglariously enteied, and the following Articles stolen therein a pair of nearly new grey mixture striped Trousers, hava been washed, buttons marked ' Gamble, Derby ;' two pairs of lady's white Stockings, marked ' S. A. Brookhouse ;' a child's white flannel Night- dress, worked with red worsted ; a plated Tea Spoon, marked ' C ;' and an alpaca Umbrella. Information to be given to Head Constable Hilton, Town Hall, Derby.,— Bow- street, October 21. Between 10 p. m. on the ISth instant, and 7 the following morning, the shop of Mr. William Kay, jeweller, & c„ Bridge- street, Runcorn, was brokeu into, and the following property stolen therein : a lady's gold Geneva Watch ; silver lever Watch, maters J. and A. Harris, Liverpool ; a'silver Geneva hunting Watcli; a silver Geneva Watch, open face, large size; a lady's small silver Geneva Watch; three small Geneva Witches ; Four 9- carat gold Alberts ; one 15- carat gold Albert, long open links ; one 10- carat ditto, open links ; one 10- carit ditto ; one 9- carat ditto: sixty- six gold wedding, Worthing, was broken into, and the following property stolen therein: seven Blankets, some marked ' B. f five Counter- panes, some marked ' Gooderich ;' two Table Cloths, one red and black, the other red and drab colour ; and a feather Pillow. Information to be given to Superintendent Hender- son, West Sussex Constabulary, Worthing. — Bow- sireet October 18. Stolen at Winton on the 14th instant, by means of housebreaking : a Half- crown ; two Sixpences, with hole on edges; a Sixpence with the letters ' A. B.' on one side, and ' W.' on the other ; and a Four- penny- piece, with two holes on the edge. Information to be given to Superintendent Parks, Appleby, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle.— Bcno- street, October 16. Between 10 p. m. on the 11th and 6 a. m. on the 12th instant, No. 3, Clifton villas, Slough, was burglariously entered, and the following articles, the property of Mrs. P. P. Doyen, stolen therein : six plated Dessert Knives and Forks, with ivory handles ; a handsome red Smelling- bottle, with gold top ; a pail of plated Snuffers; a Cruet Stand with seven holders ; three silver Tops to same ; a silver Mustard Spoon, crest- a falcon or eagle with open - wings; a small ivory Weather- glass ; a damask Tablecloth, marked ' P. P. Doyer,' in ink ; two silver Thimbles ; and two pairs of small Scissors. During the night of the 14th instant, the unoccupied furnished house of Mr. Waterworth, No. 6, West- buildings, HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen during the night of the 22nd instant, from Chel- wood, in the county of Somerset, the property of Mr. Daniel Wilkins : a light roan- coloured half- bred Gelding, rising 3 years old, has been broken, a small white streak down the forehead, tail cut square just above the hocks, a small scar or streak on outside of near hind leg, between the fetlock and hock. Information to be given to Superintendent Emson, Somerset Constabulary, Temple Cloud, near BristoL— Bow- street, October 25. Stolen from a field at Beckbury, near Shiffnal, on the night of the 20th instant: a dark brown cart Mare, aged, 15 or 16 hands high, long mane, off foreleg a little bent when standing, has new shoes on fore feet, not turned up, the pro- perty of Makenzie Bothwell, a gipsy. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent, Richardson, Wellington, Salop, or Sergeant Barrett, Shiffnal, Salop.— Bow- street, October 25. Stolen from a field in the parish of Aston Flamville, Leicestershire, ou the 14th instant : an iron- grey Pony, 5 years old, 13 hands high, black mane and tail, rough coat, in good condition, has a small lump under left jaw, hair rubbed off above one hock, and had a halter on ; the property of Thomas Gowing. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Moore, Constabulary Station, Hinckley, Leicestershire. — Bow- street, October 25. Stolen during the night of the 15th instant, from a field at Irton, near Beverley, in the East Riding: an aged roan cart Mare, about 15 hands 2 inches high. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Naylor, Beverley.— Bow- street, October 21. Further information respecting the two Donkeys stolen from the parish of Berriew, ou the 24th ult., since recovered ( having been sold) at Llangollen. The warraut against JOHN HARRIS, advertised in the Police Gazette cf the 7th instant for stealing the same, has been withdrawn, and another warrant is issued for the apprehension of two men of the following description : JAMES HARRIS, alias IRISH JIM, alias DUBLIN BOB, about 45 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark brown hair, whiskers under chin a little grey, pale complexion, small features, small hazel eyes, and scar on the comer of right eye ; dressed in a new black cloth cap, with leather peak and strap in front, old pilot cloth monkey jacket, the nap worn off, cord trousers, aud good strong boots. GEORGE WATSON, alias BIG HEAD, about 45 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, light hair, and whiskers turning grey ; dressed in a black wideawake hat, dark coat, aud cord trousers. They encamp about the country, making baskets and tins for sale, and they also work in turnip fields for farmers. Infor- mation to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Newtown, or to Police Constable Sibbald, Berriew, Montgomeryshire, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- street, October 21. Stolen about the 13th ins., from Maesmawr, in the parish of Llandiuam, the property of Mr. T. E. Kinsey: a lis; ht- colour gelding Donkey, aged, in good condition, and is marked with the letter ' K' on the crup above the tail. Information to bo given at the Chief Constable's Office, Newtown, or to Police Constable Pearson, Caersws, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, October 21. Stolen from a field near Ironbridge, Salop, during the night of the lath instant, an old dark brown Horse, about 14 hands high, long mane and tail, knees very much swollen, and leather under the fore shoes, the property of Mr. White, Ironbridge. Information to be given to Chief Superinten- dent Richardson, Wellington, or to Sergeant Turner, Madeley, Salop.— Bow- street, October 21. Further description of the Horse and Cart stolen from a stable and cart- shed in the borough of Hertford, on the night of the 1st or morniugof the 2nd instant, and advertised 2 P O L I C E G A Z E T T E. October 25 in the Police Gazette oil the 4th : the horse was m good con- dition had two lumps on the backbone about the size of a large acorn, and had a very switch tail; the cart had a hole iu centre, with brass screw or socket let in flush with the bottom of the cart for an umbrella stick, and the paint much worn ( but, if repainted, can be identified) ; the chaise cover was marked ' Hole.' £ 15 reward and all reasonable expenses will be paid ou recovery of the above, or iu proportion to the amount recovered, and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Head Constable Jarrett, Borough Police, Hertford.— Bow- street, October 18. Stolen from a field at Wistaston, Cheshire, during the night of the 10th instant: a brown Filly, nearly thorough bred about 15i hands high, 3 year3 old, aud has one white hind' foot : also a half bred bay Hcntse, 8 years old, about 15 hands high, has some white spots ou the back, and a mark on the throat in the form of a V, the property of Mrs. Hill, of Wistasten. Information to be given to Superintendent Laxton, Nantwich, or to Inspector Morris, Crewe, Cheshire. -- Bow- street, October 1( 5. Stolen from Fobbing, on the 14th instant; a dark brown nag Mare, 10 years old, about 15 hands high, white face, hind le" s white as far as the hocks, lias a wart on the tip of each hock, a little hair chafed olf the withers, and inside of both fetlocks. Information to be given at tho Constabulary Office, Brentwood, Essex.— Bowstresf, October 16. Stolen from a field on the night of the 8th instant, in the township of Stokesley : a small roan entire Pony, aged, about 10 or 11 hands high, black thick bushy mane, and fong tail, walks very wide behind, legs crooked, and spavin on each hind leg. Information to be given to Superintendent Simpson, Constabulary Office, or to Sergeant Holmes, Constabulary Office, Stokesley, York.— Bow- street, October 14. Description of GEORGE MANNS, who has absconded from Wimborne Minster, chiuged with stealing a Horse and Cart, which have been recovered ; he is about 35 year* of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, rather stout figure, fresh complexion, light hair, inclined to he sandy, whiskers shaved, off, bald on the top of head, holes iu his ears, a< id may have rings in them, tattooed on both arms and round oue ® f his f. ugers on the ri<* ht hand in the shape of a ring, right leg shorter than the left, walks lame and ou one side ; dressed, wheniie absconded, in a ° rey coat, dark trousers and waistcoat, end cloth cap with peak. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Con- stable Hammond, Dorset Constabulary, Wimliorne.— Bow- street, October 14. A warrant has been graoted against two men of the followiug description, charged with stealing a Donkey, from Llanuwchllyn, in the county of Merioneth, oa the night of the 3rd instant, the property of Edward Roberts, shopkeeper, and now recovered sold at Nantyr, near Llangollen. By JAMES HARRIS, alias IRISH JIM, alias IRISH BOB, about 45 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, small thin features, sallow complexion, dark hair aud whiskers, small hazel eyes, supposed to be weak aud running, one of his toes turning inward when walking ; dressed iu new cloth cap, leather peak and strap in front, dark pilot cloth monkey jacket, cord trousers, lately w ashed, strong boots, with big nails: and GEORGE WATSON, alias BIG HEAD, about 45 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, light hair aud whiskers, turning grey ; dressed iu black wideawake hat, dark coat, covd trousers ; both are in the hu!-> it of camping on road- sides, making fancy wicker baskets ; Watson was con- victed in Denbighshire for burglary in 1862. Information to be » iven at the Chief Constable's Office, Bala, " Merionethshire, to P. C. Jones, Llandderfil, or to Sergeant Williams, Corwen. — Bow- street, October 14. Stolen on the 16th ultimo, from Ktdsgrove : a bay Horse, without white, nearly thorough bred, about 15 hauds high, rising 6 years old, enlarged hind fetlocks with cutting, and near knee a little chipped. Information to be given to Superintendent Baker, Police Office, Tunstall, or at any Police Station in the county of Stafford.— Bow- street, Oct. 14. LARCENY AN © EMBEZZLEMENT. | Stolen from a dwelling house in Wakefield, on the 30th ultimo : a dark mixture cloth Coat, with small white dots through the cloth, single breasted, two butfons iu front, two outside pockets, one inside left breast; a dark blue ribbed cloth Vest, double breasted ; aud a pair of striped cloth Trousers, with dark stripes down the sides, all nearly new. By SAMUEL WILSON, alias FINLEY, woolsorter, 42 yrs. of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, hazel eyes, brown hair, pockpitted, and a native of Leeds ; he has been twice convicted of felony, aud was liberated from the West Riding House of Correction, on the 13th January, 1872, and is under Police Supervision. His photograph can be had on | application to Chief Constable Chipstead, Borough Police Office, Wakefield, Yorks, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bm- street, October 25. Description of THOMAS TAYLOR, a native of Spar- > shott, Berks, charged on a warrant with stealing, on the .0th August last, at Wantage, a silver Watch ( since recovered) from the person of James Payne : he is about 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, no whiskers, and slight make ; dressed in a light slop, • cord trousers, aud soft black hat; he is a farm labourer, and occasionally a carte:-, aud is now supposed to be employed in the neighbourhood of London as carter to a. corn dealer, or working in a malt house. Information to be given to Super- intendent O'Neil, Wantage, Berks.— Bow- streot, October 25. Steien on the 2Srd instant, from the dwelling- house of Mr. Chatterton, Horncastle : a pair of men's lace Boots, toe- capped, have been re- soled, sprigged round, about half worn ; a small pocket Pistol, single- barrel, supposed to have either the name of ' Wilson,' or ' Brown,' stamped ou the stock, the end of mucale scratched ; a drab cloth Coat, lined with check, two pockets outside, one inside left breast, top of left shoulder repaired, open behind about 5 inches, and large dark buttons. By a man who slept in the bouse, 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 or : 5 inches high, swarthy complexion, dark hair, cut short, no whiskers, small moustache, good teeth, and is a bad walker ; 1 dressed in dark plaid cloth coa/ t, two pockets outside, black cloth vest, dark cotton cord trousers, strong laoe boots, patent leather leggings, Uack clotn cheese- cutter cap, yellow button on each side. Information to be . given to Superintendent Jarvis, Lincolnshire Constabulary, Horncastle.— Bow- street, October 25. Absconded on the lflth instaat, from 70, Berwick- street, Solio, stealing three Coat* : HYMAN GILBERT, 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion, moustache, and eyes, no whiskers ; dressed iu dark pea jacket, light trousers, stripe at sides, black wide awake hat, side- spring boots. Supposed gene to Liverpool to emigrate to America. A warrant is issued for his apprehension,— Metropolitan Police, E Division, October 25. Absconded from Sutton- in- Ashfield, Notts, on the 12th instant, charged with stealing two reefing Jackets ( new), one blue cloth, the other snuff- coloured Petersham, velvet collar, lined with red and black cheque, and bound with broad knotted braid, the property of his master, Mr. Robert Knutton, tailor, and for whom a warrant has been issued : CORNELIUS O'DOWD, otherwise GEORGE PAYNE, 25 or 26 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, light complexion, a sear on left cheek,' B. C.' on hia side; an Irishman, has been in the army, is a tailor, and well known to the Police in Birmingham, Sheffield, and Manchester, having from six to twelve months ago been apprehended in Manchester for felony in Sheffield, for which offence he was convicted and sentenced to imprisonment at Wakefield ; dressed in black shooting coat, drab troueers, and brown stiff hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Bexon, Mansfield, Notts, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 25. He was tried and convicted at the general quarter sessions, held at Durham, in January, 1866, in the name of JAMES COOPER, for stealing Wearing Apparel at Sunder- land, and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude ; prior to that he was convicted at Ayr Circuit Court, for felony, and was sentenced to 15 month's imprisonment; he has also been convicted at Newcastle- upon- Tyne and Gateshead, under the Criminal Justice Act, in the name of JOHN JOHNSON. A prisoner, named THOMAS HARDING, a brewery agent, charged with embezzlement, eseaped from custody between 10 and 11 on the night of the 14th instant, at the London and North Western Railway Station, leaving his hat and luggage behind him. He is 28 years of age, 5 feet 10 ins. high, fresh complexion, high cheek bones, dark hair, parted in the middle, and small moustache, of smart appearance, has plenty of self- confidence, and a habit of stooping when in personal conversation. Is well- known in Stoke- upon- Trent, Burton- on- Trent, and in this borough and vicinity, where he has been recently employed as agent for Mr. Charles King, brewer.
