Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may hear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. C. •„* Whenever it is desired that any person Bhould be appre hended, and the Name iB given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of tho Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. FORGERY. Description of a woman who gave the name of MARY C. BROWN, charged on a warrant with forging the endorse- ment of a bill of exchange for £ 50 19s. 4d. ( drawn by the black chummy hat, and wrapper round neck. He is very likely to get work at some horsedealers aa groom, or at some publicans as ostler. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Jones, East Darling, Norfolk.— Bow- street, October 4. During the night of the 28th instant, the cottage of Arthur Hayter, Cobham, Surrey, was broken into, and the following property stolen therein : a pair of Balmoral Boots, man's size; a new woollen Shirt; a Shirt, partly made ; three woollen Shirts, considerably worn; two pieces of Flannel, cut ready for shirts ; two pairs of dark mixture Trousers, one pair has a stripe down legs ; a dark mixture Vest; a dark blue witney pilot Jacket, braided, one of the pockets has been repaired ; and a dark Lantern. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Bungard, Surrey Con- stabulary, Chertsey.— Bow- street, September 30. Description of a youth charged at Bradford with breaking into and stealing fron a saddler's shop a number of Curry Combs, Mane Combs, Harness Buckles, pots of Polishing Paste and Harness Blacking, which be will endeavour to sell: a cabinet maker, a native of Hollingwood, near Manchester, 19 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, light brown hair, to Head Constable Jarrett, Borough Police, Hertford.— 1low- street, October 4. Stolen during the night of the 28th ultimo, fcom a field in the parish of Fen Ditton, adjoining Cambridge, the pro- perty of Mr. George Clark, of Cambridge : a chesnut nag Mare, 6 years old, about 15 bands high, mane and tail a shade lighter than body, had no shoes on, having been out to grass since the end of August, and is a very fast trotter. Supposed stolen by gipsies who had been at Stirbitch Fair on the 25th ultimo. £ 25 reward will be paid on conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the mare. Stolen from a field at Swan Village, ia the parish of West Bromwich, on the night of the 25th ultimo : a bay cob Horse, 3 years old, about 13 and tail, and has a small spec hands high, long black mane on the eye on the near side. Also stolen, from a field at Great's Green, in the parish of West Bromwich, during the night of the 28th ultimo : a dark brown Horse, aged, about 13. bands high, bind feet white, and stout build ; dressed in blue serge pea jacket with velvet brown muzzle, and mane falling on the near side. Information to be given to Superintendent Kennard, dressed in black bonnet, new fashionably made black jacket, East Grinstead ; at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes new violet scarf round neck, white and chocolate striped dress • with panniers, and has also a new black shawl; carries a small black bag and a fancy basket, containing white lace, which she hawks about. She had the whole of the money in gold. Absconded from Stafford, on the 16th instant, charged with forging an order for the payment of, aud obtaining £ 10 from Mr. James Senior, of the ' Swan' hotel: GEORGE PRITCHARD, 24 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, pale [ complexion, light hair, slight moustache and whiskers, slight make, and of smart appearance; dressed in light tweed suit, yellow kid gloves, aud kossuth hat; he is a native of Chorlton, near Wellington, Salop. Description of CHARLES WAT- KINSON, Stone mason, who has changed some of the notes : 55 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, slim build, long thin visage, long thin nose, wrinkled face, quite bald, red grizzly beard, rece atly shaved, small tuft left of chin ; brown baggy cloth trousers, darn mixture coat and vest, top hat, all new ; had a silver watch and gilt chain in his possession. He left Leicester for London, on the 26th ultimo. £ 5 reward will be paid on the recovery of the property, and conviction of the offender or offenders, as may lead thereto. Description of EDWARD CODLING, of Eccles, labourer, who absconded from Quidenham, Norfolk, on the 28th ultimo, cbaiged with breaking into a shop at Quidenham, on the night of the 27th ultimo : he is 20 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, slight brown moustache, white tuft of hair on top of head, slight impediment in speech, and thin face; dressed in a cfark mixed cloth coat and trousers, with black stripe down side, Duriug the night of the 19th instant, the house of George Walkland, of Owlets Farm, East Grinstead, Sussex, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a silver lever Watch, capped and jewelled, maker J. Fowle, East Grinstead, a plated albeit Chain attached ; a small Box, containing tw_ gold shirt Studs, and three green enamelled ditto.; and some 1 Papers. Information to be given to Superintendent Kennard, Police Station, East Grinstead, Sussex.— Bow- street, Sept. 23. On the night of the 20tli instant, the dwelling- house of Joseph Tomblin, Cuckfield, was broken and entered, aud the following property stolen therein : a 5s. Piece and 2Jd. ; a pair of old dark worsted Stockings, mended at the feet; 2 lbs. of cooked Bacon ; three white cotton Handkerchiefs, with violet borders ; a white Handkerchief, without border ; a large Razor, with red handle ; a Razor- strop, with case ; and some Bread. Supposed by a man of the following description, who was seen by Police Constable Wood on the 21st instant, on the highway in the parish of Woodmaucote, and whilst being searched he struck the constable a violent blow on the ear with a belt, and made his escape ; a hand- kerchief and some bread taken from him have since been identified as part of the stolen property : he is 24 or 25 years of age, about 5 feet 0 inches high, swarthy complexion, brown hair, small sandy moustache, few whiskers, rather stout figure, aud had the appearance of a tramp ; dressed in old Stolen from a field in the parish of Norton- by- Gaulby, Leicestershire, during the night of the 20th instant: a thorough- bred bay Mare, aged, about 15i bands high, has a small white star on forehead, is a little lame of one foreleg, has recently left her foal, aud had a halter tied round her head, the property of Mr. Frisby, of Barwell. Information to be given at the County Constabulary Office, Leicester,, or to Inspector Goodman, East Norton, Leicestershire.— Bow- street, September 27. Stolen from the Common, Ham, Uffculme, Devon, on the 23rd instant : a white mare Pony, about 12i hands high, and branded ' W. F.' on the near side, the tips of the ears cut slanting. Whoever will give information to the Superinten- dent of Police, Cullompton, or Mr. Saml. Curwood, Uffculme, Devon, shall on conviction of the offender or offenders and black cloth jacket with pockets outside, light trousers, nailed recovery of the Mare, be rewarded for their trouble.— Bow- boots, and wore a loose handkerchief round his neck. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from an outhouse at Badshot, in the parish of Farnham, between 9 and 10 p. m. on the 29th ultimo : a small mare Donkey, 5 or 0 years old, with white face and legs, the property of George Prince. By a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 iuches high, fresh complexion, sandy hair and whiskers, short neck ; dressed in dark grey coat and vest, old light trousers, heavy nailed boots, and' dark cloth cap with peak and red spots on it; he is supposed to be known iu the districts of Newbury and Windsor, Berks. Informa- tion to be given to SuperintendentNewland, Surrey Consta- bulary, Farnham.— Bow- street, October 4. Stolen from a stable and cart shsd in the borough of Hertford, during the night of the lst or morning of the 2nd instant: a black Horse, about 15 hands high, aged, rather straight back, saddle marked, very slight mark on knee from a fall, rather switch tail, small ears, and clean legged ; a full- size plain made spring Cart, painted green, picked out with light green, name of owner painted on the side of same ' Daniel Hale, Gardener, Hertford,' had a wippletree on when stolen; a set of strong Harness, brass- mounted; and a Chaise Cover, bound with, red braid. A reward of £ 10 and all reasonable expenses will be paid on recovery of the stolen property, or iu proportion to the amount recovered and con- viction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given a very dark brown Pouy, nearly black, aged, 13 hands high, chip on near knee, the hair being rubbed off; both in good con- dition, the property of Wm. Barber, Esq. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information and evidence as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Found at the parish of Somerton, on the 10th instant, and supposed to have been stolen : a black cart Mare, aged, about 14 hands high, aud appears to have been fired on the off hind leg. Stolen from the Angel Inn, Barnstaple, on the 20th instant: a light grey Mare, aged, about 15 hands high, near knee broken, the property of George Balkwell, Hatherleigh. By WILLIAM BAILEY, of Taunton, Somerset, a horse dealer and cheese hawker, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, thin, clean face, a little deaf, and has a down- cast look. A warrant is issued for his apprehension. Infor- mation to be given to Head Constable Longhurst, Police Office, Barnstaple, Devon.— Bow- street, September 25. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen from Wellington Rectory, on the 2nd instant black cloth frock Coat, nearly new, supposed to have the name of ' Rev. B. Banning,' wrote on parchment, and fastened under the loose lining inside collar. By a man who went to the rectory, aud stated he wanted a marriage license : lie is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, darlc whiskers, turning grey, dark moustache, dark hair, thin aud pale looking, and wore spectacles ; dressed iu dark overcoat, small necktie, turn- down collar, and open- frouted waistcoat, aud soft felt black billycock hat. Stolon on the night of the 28th ultimo, from a farm- yard at Eton Wick, Bucks, five Fowls, which have' been recovered; supposed to have been stolen by a man of the following description, as they were found iu his possession, and who has absconded: PETER WOODS, alias PETER THE GIP, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, sallow com- plexion, no whiskers, tuft of sandy beard on the chin; dressed in brown snuff jacket, light trousers, aud black billycock hat; has been a soldier. Absconded on the 10th ultimo, from Bradway, Derby- charged on a warrant with stealing a quantity of Iron ( since recovered): GEORGE FIDDLE Or HIDDEN, better known by the name of ' LOCKS,' about 38 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fresh complexion, rouud face, anil white hair and eyebrows; dressed in a blue pilot cloth coat aud veBt, fustian trousers, aud old cloth cap. He is a native j of the south of England, aud may be found working as a • a ' keelman or labouring with navvies. Absconded on the 14th instant, from the Post Office, Camden Town- road Railway Station, charged with stealing about £ 160, the monies of the Postmaster- General : a man, 28 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, browu hair, saudy whiskers aud moustache, full face ; dressed in dark blue frock coat, dark cloth trousers aud vest, and high hat ; a post office clerk.— Metropolitan Police, Y Division, September 30. Stolen from the dwelling- house of Edwin Apps, at West- field, Sbssex, on the 16th instant: a waterproof Cloak, an alpaca Umbrella, and ll| d. in Money.
