Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may bo made and addressed to MB. O. %* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no oharge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZBTTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of Stats for Wm, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. IN F ORMATIONS ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. On the night of the 11th instant, some straw in the barn and stackyard of Mr. Joseph Hound, farmer, Ivenley, in the parish of Kinver, was set fire to, thereby causing great damage and loss of property. £ 20 reward will be paid for such information as will lead to the conviction of the offenders. Information to be given to Sergeant Baldwin, Kinver, or to Mr. Joseph Hound, Ivinley, near Stourbridge, Staffordshire. — Bow- street, September 16. FORGERY. Absconded from Stafford, on the 16th instant, charged with forging an order for the payment of, aud obtaining £ 10 from Mr. James Senior, of the ' Swan' hotel: GEORGE PRITCHARD, 24 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, pale [ complexion, light hair, slight moustache and whiskers, slight make, and of smart appearance; dressed in light tweed suit, yellow kid gloves, and kossuth hat ; he is a native of Chorlton, near Wellington, Salop. Information to be given to Inspector Bowen, Guildhall, Stafford, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 27. Description of a woman who gave the uame of MARY C. BROWN, charged on a warrant with forging the endorse- ment of a bill of exchange for £ b0 19s. 4d. ( drawn by the Bank of Bengal upon the Bank of England), by presenting it at Messrs. Thomas Barnard aud Co.' s Bank, Bedford : she is about 45 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, broad red face, dark hair aud eyes, and speaks with an Irish accent; dressed in black bonnet, new fashionably made black jacket, new violet scarf round neck, white and chocolate striped dress with panniers, aud has atao a new black shawl; carries a small black bag and a fancy basket, containing white lace, which she hawks about. She had the whole of the money in < rold. She frequents public- houses and generally drinks neat whiskey. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to her apprehension. Information to be given to Chief Constable Verey, Borough Police Office, Bedford.— Boto- street, September 23. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of Mr. James Noyes, at the ' Royal Oak Inn' Pewsey, on the 15th instant: a silver lever Watch, with seconds, capped and jewelled in three holes, English make, minus of ringbow, which was twisted out. By some Hussars, from the camp, then at Pewsey, aud who are now en route for Aldershot. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Stretton, Marlborough, Wilts.— Bow- street, September 20. Supposed to have been stolen from the person of a lady, in Hastings, on the 15th instant: a lady's gold Geneva horizontal Watch, gold dial, No. 30617, with gold Chain attached. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Glenister, Hastings.— Bow- street, September 18. Stolen from the person at the Porton Station, of the London and South Western Railway, on the 12th instant: a gold hunting plain case lever Watch, maker Barrand, No. 2 | C670. Supposed by a man, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, long dark hair, whiskers, and moustache; dressed iu a dark coat and trousers, light- coloured bowler hat, with a wide black band lound it. A reward will be given on the recovery of the watch, and the conviction of the offender or offenders. Also stolen, a silver cased verge Watch, silver dial, with gold figures, No. 6440. Information to be given to Head Constable White, City Police, Salisbury, Wilts.— Bow- street, September 16. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Description of a youth charged at Bradford with breaking into and stealing frosr a saddlers shop a number of Curry Combs, Mane Combs, Harness Buckles, pots of Polishing Paste and Harness Blacking, which he will endeavour to sell: a cabinet maker, a native of Hollingwood, near Manchester, 19 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, light brown hair, and stout build ; dressed in blue serge pea jacket with velvet collar, brown cord trousers and vest, very oily, black cloth cap, very oily, puce, red, and white plaid woollen shirt, black silk neckerchief tied in sailor's knot, and old elastic- Bide boots, one of which is torn behind for a sore heel; he has been tramping about and living by theft. Information to be given to Superintendent Ball, West Riding Constabulary, Bradford. - Bow- street, September 27. The dwelling- house of Mr. Walkland, in the parish of East Grinstead, Sussex, was burglariously entered during tho night of the 19th instant, and stolen therein : a silver lever Watch, capped and jewelled, seconds hands, maker John Fowle, East Grinstead, had attached a gold plated albert Chain ; a small wood Box, 4 inches long by 3 inches wide, containing two gold Shirt Studs, three green enan. elled ditto, some Bills, Buttons, & c.; and a gold Brooch, with white stone. Information to be given to Superintendent Kennard, East Grinstead ; at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes ; or at any Police Station in East Sussex Constabulary.— Bow- street, September 23. During the night of the 19th instant, the house of George Walkland, of Owlets Farm, East Grinstead, Sussex, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a silver lever Watch, capped and jewelled, maker J. Fowle, East Grinstead, a plated albeit Chain attached ; a small Box, containing two fold shirt Studs, and three green enamelled ditto.; and some ' apers. Information to be given to Superintendent Kennard, Police Station, East Grinstead, Sussex.— Bow- street, Sept. 23. On the night of the 20th instant, the dwelling- house of Joseph Tomblin, Cuckfield, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therein : a 5s. Piece and 2Jd. ; a pair of old dark worsted Stockings, mended at the feet; 2 lbs. of cooked Bacon ; three white cotton Handkerchiefs, with violet borders ; a white Handkerchief, without border ; a large Razor, with red handle ; a Razor- strop, with case ; and some Bread. Supposed by a man of the following description, who was seen by Police Constable Wood on the 21st instant, on the highway in the parish of Woodmancote, and whilst being searched he struck the constable a violent blow on the ear with a belt, and made his escape ; a hand- kerchief and some bread taken from him have since been identified as part of the stolen property : he is 24 or 25 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, swarthy complexion, brown hair, small sandy moustache, few whiskers, rather stout figure, and had the appearance of a tramp ; dressed in old black cloth jacket with pockets outside, light trousers, nailed boots, and wore a loose handkerchief round his neck. He gave a Broocb, with white stone and hair in centre, to the landlady of the Wheatsheaf Inn, Woodmancote, saying that he did not want it; it is now in the possession of the Police, and is supposed to have been stolen. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, or to Superin- tendent Pocock, Cuckfield, Sussex.— Bow- street, September 23. Description of ALFRED TONY, a native of the Ville of Dunkirk, near Canterbury, charged with house breaking, at Selling, on the 17th instant, and stealing two black cloth Coats, one with velvet collar; two pairs of black cloth Trousers; a high- crowned Hat, marked inside ' Nash, St. George's, Canterbury ;' a pair of gold- plated Ear- rings ; a set of gold- plated shirt Studs ; a linen Front ; three cotton Shirts, marked ' J. B. 1— 2;' two black cloth Vests ; two linen pocket Handkerchiefs, marked ' H. B., 1869 ;' and an old Sword : he is 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, whiskers, and moustache^ generally shaved on chin, but supposed now to have two or three weeks growth, smart military appearance, discharged from Marine Artillery ; dressed on the 17th instant in a light tweed suit, trousers and waistcoat too large round waist, light brown speckled billycock hat, and balmoral boots, toe- capped. Information to be given to Superintendent Mayne, Police Court, Sittingbourne, Kent.— Bow- street, September 23. During the forenoon of the 16th instant, the dwelling- house of Joseph Grantham, of Tathwell, was broken atTd entered, and stolen therein : a pair of strong half Boots, middle size, nearly new, plates on toes and heels, nailed with two rows of square headed nails on the outside, three rows of round headed nails in the centre, and one row of small nails on each side of the hollow of the boots; also 2oz. of Tobacco. Supposed by tramps. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Fuller, Louth, Lincolnshire.— Bow- st., September 23. Stolen by means of shop breaking in the borough of Middlesborough, sometime during the night of the 17th inst., the under- mentioned articles of new Clothing: six brown cloth Overcoats, melton and beaver, two or three of them with black velvet collars, quilted linings, and stitched edges ; two blue cloth reefing Jackets, lined with flannel, one of them bound with braid ; two black cloth shooting Coats; three mixture cloth shooting Coats, double- breasted, and have two buttons on the cuffs ; two pairs of dark mixture cloth Trousers, fly fronts; two dark mixture cloth Vests, double- breasted ; a blue witney reefing Jacket, velvet collar and quilted lining; two dozen woollen Shirts, different colours ; two dozen Sheath and Pocket Knives; a dozen re- made Vests, of different kinds of cloth ; and five or six pilot Vests, lined with blue serge. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Police Office, Middlesborough.— — Bow- street, September 20. Stolen by means of house breaking, at Chilham, Kent, on the 13th instant: a single- barrel Gun, stock broken and fastened together with a piece of copper wire; a Bill Hook ; a Wedding Ring ; an old suit of grey Clothes ; and a black cloth Vest. Supposed by a man, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, light hair, long whiskers, and slight moustache; dressed in dark pilot coat, cotto:. cord trousers, recently washed, and round black hat; carried a bundle in a blue and white handkerchief. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Noakes, Kent County Constabulary, Ashford.— Bow- street, September 16. Between 10 and 11 a. m. on the 12th instant the house of Mr. Henry Peake, of Stamford, was broken and entered, and stolen therein about 10s. in Silver. By a man, about 26 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, pale thin face, no whiskers, small dark moustache, dark hair ; dressed in short black coat and vest, tight- fitting light coloured cord trousers, soft black billycock hat, and high- heeled Wellington boots. Information to be given to Superintendent Ward, Stamford, Lincoln.— Bow- street, September 16. Stolen by housebreaking, during the night of the 7th instant, from Cavalry Barracks, Hounslow : a silver Soap Tureen, cover 9 inches by 6 inches, notched roand edge, embossed knob on top, crest— crown and garter, ' Queen's Own Hussars'in cipher round garter; a black ribbed cut- away Coat, ' Statery & Co., Limerick,' under collar; two black cloth Vests; a pair of Bedford cord Trousers ; a blue silk Scarf; a pair of military riding Boots, new ; and 14s. 6d. in Silver. Also, two oval- shape silver Waiters, 6 in. by 4 in., with four legs, embossed, crest in centre— a crown in garter, ' Queen's own Hussars' in cipher round the garter. Supposed by a deserter, 21 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, and hazel eyes ; dressed in regimentals. There were left behind a carpenters Mallet, an old pilot Jacket, and a pair of leather lace- up Bocts. — Metro- politan Police, T Division, September 16. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a field in the parish of Norton- by- Gaulby, Leicestershire, during the night of the 20th instant: a thorough- bred bay & 1are, aged, about 15i hands high, has a small white star on forehead, is a little lame of one foreleg, has recently left her foal, aud had a baiter tied round her head, the property of Mr. Frisby, of BarwelL Information to be given at the County Constabulary Office, Leicester, or to Inspector Goodman, East Norton, Leicestershire.— Bow- street, September 27. Stolen from the Common, Ham, Uffculme, Devon, on the 23rd instant : a white mare Pony, about 12A hands high, and branded ' W. F.' on the near side, the tips of the ears cut slanting. Whoever will give information to the Superinten- dent of Police, Cullompton, or Mr. Saml. Curwood, Uffculme, Devon, shall on conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the Mare, be rewarded for their trouble.— Bow- street, September 27. Stolen from Elm Hill, Grimley, near Worcester, during the night of the 15th instant: two Horses, one very light grey cob horse, nearly white, aged, 14 hands high ; the other a very dark brown Pony, nearly black, aged, 13 hands high, chip on near knee, the hair being rubbed off; both in good con- dition, the property of Wm. Barber, Esq. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information and evidence as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Phillips, Worcester.— Bow- street, Sept. 27. Found at the parish of Somerton, on the 10th instant, and supposed to have been stolen : a black cart Mare, aged, about 14 hands high, and appears to have been fired on the off hind leg. Information to be given to Superintendent Drewett, Somerset Constabulary, Somerton. — Bow- street, September 25. Stolen from the Angel Inn, Barnstaple, on the 20th instant: a light grey Mare, aged, about 15 hands high, near knee broken, the property of George Balkwell, Hatherleigh. By WILLIAM BAILEY, of Taunton, Somerset, a horse dealer and cheese hawker, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, thin, clean face, a little deaf, and has a down- cast look. A warrant is issued for his apprehension. Infor- mation to be given to Head Constable Longhurst, Police Office, Barnstaple, Devon.— Bow- street, September 25. Stolen from a field at the Leigh, in the parish of Ashton Keynes, since the 19th instant, the property of Mr. John Wilkins : a black gelding Pony, 3 years old, 12 hands high, star on forehead, and long tail; has a small wort on the off thigh near the flank. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Woodman, Malmsbury.— Bow- street, September 23. Stolen during the night of the 17th instant, from a field at Halling, Honley : a black mare Pony, 3 years old, 12 hands high, and short switch tail. Information to be given to Superintendent Heaton, West Riding Constabulary, Hudders- field, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, September 23. Stolen from Witheridge, on the 14th instant : a ewe 2 September 20 Sbeep, marked with pitch ' 44,' on each side, aud ' F.' ou the near leg; the property of Mr. Charles Frost, Coombe, Witheridge. Information to he giveu to Superintendent Wood, B Division, Devon Constabulary, South Molton.— Bow- street, September 20. Fouud at Codford, Wilts : a South Down wether Lamb, supposed to have been stolen. Information to be given to Superintendent Abbott, Warminster, Wilts. — Bow- street, September 20. Stolen on the 2rd instant from a field in the parish of Sherwill, Devon, the property of Richard Thorne : an iron < rey Mare, about 8 years old, has a slight scar on each knee and the tail cu. t square ; a Bridle, has curb- bit and a red front Strap; also a Saddle. SAMUEL SLOLEY, a native of Breudou, was seen riding the horse the same day as stolen in the direction of North and South Molton ; he is about 33 years of age, 5 feet 6or 7 inches high, stout build, black lta. ii and whiskers, aud is very uear- sigUted : dressed iu a black cloth coat aud vest, grey trousers, with black stripe about two inches wide down side, black billycock hat, very dirty, aud laee- up boots ; he may have gained admission into some workhouse or public institution in or about Bristol, as he has doue so on a previous occasion. Information to be given to Superiuteudeut Baird, Devon Constabulary, Barn- staple, or to Poliee Constable Salter, Coustabulary Station, Sherwill, Barnstaple, who holds a warrant for his apprehen- sion.— Btro- street, September 20. Supposed to have been stolen during the night of the 14th instant, from a field belonging to John Dudly, of. Pool Quay, Welshpool : a small dark brown male Donkey, about 5 years old, small white spot under the saddle, the fore shoes are new, with four holes stamped in each, and the hind ouas are old ( one is heavier than the other and channelled for the nails). Suspicion is attached to some travelling or strolling nailors from Staffordshire. Found, supposed to have been stolen : a grey Gelding, aged, scara on. knees, about 13 hands high, in good condition, and wall eye on near side. By a man of the following description, who sold the new " Waistcoat iu Deal, aud it has been recovered ; he is ab > ut 50 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, black curly hair, clean shaved, very dark complexion, has the appearauce of a half cast ; he was dressed in a black paletot coat, black trousers, and high hat, which appeared to be too large for him ; is known by the name of the Black Prince, aud is a tailor ; is well known at Tunbridge, Tunbridge Wells, and Hastings. He left at Deal on the 26th instant by the 6.30 p. m. traiu for London. Information to be given to Chief Constable Parker, Deal, Kent.— Bow- street, September 27. Stolen on the morning or the 16th instant, from a dwelling- house at Donington on- Bain, two Watches : onu is a silver verge, no outer case, ' R. H. Smith' engraved on the outside, maker Joseph Drake ; the other a German silver verge, both out of repair. By ledger, w ho left immediately after, goes by the name of WILLIAM ANSELL, about 22 years of age, 5 foet 2 or 3 inches high, dark oomplexion, dark hair, a little . whisker on end of chiu ouly, turns his feet, out wheu walking, and has an awkward gait ; dressed bi cord trousers aud vest, short drab slop, white billycock hat, low blucher boots, and. hasoui overcoat with Uiui ; he works on railways. Absconded ou the 16th instant, from Billington, near Leigbton Buzzard, charged with stealing from his lodgings £ 1 2s. and a. pair of men's side- spring Roots,. nearly new : a man giviugthe name of SAMUEL HARRIS, about 18 yrs. of age, 5 feet high, rather stout, dark complexion aud hail- ( curly)| dressed in. dark coat, and black low- crowned billys cock hat ; has been employed at coprolite works in Cambridgeshire, and is supposed to have at relative a farmer at Wootton, Northamptonshire. Wesleyan beard on chin a ad m . ustache, aud walks lame ; dressed in 1 Presented by the Association of Engineers, Ironfounders, ind General Machinists of Leicester, to Mr. John Shaw, in recognition of his Services as Chairman, April 1st, 1872 ;' had attached a gold albert Guard, with small oval chased gold Locket, the guard was in two pieces, the part which hangs from the bar having been detached. By a man of the following description, who lodged at tl. a house the previous night, aud left about 9 o'clock in the morning : from 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, large head, bloated face, light hair, cut short, bald place on top of head, sallow complexion, aud no whiskers ; dressed in black cloth shooting Coat, brown aud white mixture check trousers, strong lace- up boots, green check cloth cap, hooks ou to the peak in front, peak of same material, white shirt and collar; he stated that he was a collier and came from Burnley. Stolen from a house at Patricroft, between 6 p. m. on the 11th and 10 a. m. on the 12th iustaut : two women's black cloth Jackets, one with three rows of blac.( braid, the other one row of gimp ; a plaid woollen Shawl ; a woollen Shawl with puce border ; a red damask Table Cloth ; a Towel; a Chemise; a pair of woman's Drawers, with lace at bottom ; and six Aprons.
