Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that em Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, aJU lLetters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. Information to be given to Chief Constable Verey, Police Office, Bedford.— Bow- street, September 9. Stolen from the person, on the 3rd instant, on Warwick race- course, a silver lever Watch, maker Benson, London, No. 21360. One Guinea reward. Information to be given to Head Constable Hickling, Warwick.— Bow- street, Sept. 9. Description of five persons who committed a garotte robbery between 11 aud 12 o'clock on the night of the 4th instant, stealing and taking with them a silver Watch and Chain, with silver Bar attached, a Half- sovereign, aud 5s. in Silver, from the person of James Foster, of Laugley, Kent: One about 35 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, dark hair and complexion, has lost the front teeth, and speaks with an Irish accent ; dressed in monkey jacket and rough cap. Another about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, stoutly built, dark whiskers and moustache ; dressed in light hard felt hat aud light rough overcoat. The others are about 20 years of age, dressed in old black clothes and black felt hats, and had a boy with them, between 12 and 13 years of age, also dressed in old dark clothes. These persons are supposed to be from Loudon, and may be found iu some of the hop gardens of Kent, or at public- houses, beer- houses, or lodging- houses frequented by hop pickers. Information to be given to Head Constable Gifford, Police Office, King- street, Maidstone, Kent.— Bow- street, Sept. 11. Description of two men, charged with larceny from the person, and who escaped from custody at Sheffield, about 11 a. m. on the 9th instant : JAMES MORGAN, 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, sallow complexion, grey eyes, dark brown hair, has a small mark on left temple, left arm, and back of left hand, ' G. S. M. B.' tattooed on right arm, large scar on right wrist, end of first finger^ of right hand deformed ; he is a joiner, aud of Irish parents. ROTHERFORD BLANCHARD, 30 years of age, 5 feet inches high, sallow complexion, brown eyes, dark brown hair, has large marks from disease round the neck and under chin, also a scar of left side of chin ; is a native of Ireland, and is a shoemaker. Information to be given to Chief Constable Jackson, Central Police Office, Sheffield, who holds a warrant for their appre- hension.— Bow- street, September 11. Stolen from the person on the 3rd instant, on the Race Course, at Warwick : A gold enameled Geneva Watch. £ 5 reward. Also a gold hunting Watch, plain cases, m iker Barrauds, London, No. 9325 ; a good reward will be given on the re- covery of this Watch and conviction of the offender or offen- ders. Stolen from the person of William Roff on the 7th inst., high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, rather long and full face, pug nose, no whiskers, middle finger of right hand off ; dressed when he left Whitby, on the 29th ultimo, in a black cloth coat, grey mixture cloth trousers, and vest of same material, black billycock hat, elastic- side boots, rather too large for him, blue flannel shirt, blue necktie, and jet breast pin, with flowered glass centre; he is a native of West Hartlepool, and has been employed at the iron ship building yards, at Middlesborough, Old Stockton, aud West Hartlepool; was liberated from the North Eastern Reformatory, at Mor- peth, about 2 years ago ; has a relative residing at Renfrew, Scotland, and is fond of going to theatres, music halls, & c. Information to be given to Superintendent Ryder, North Riding Constabulary, Whitby, Yorkshire.— Bow- st., Sept. 6. The residence of the Rev. R. A. Taylor, of Norton Mal- reward, was broken and entered during the night of the 1st instant, and stolen therein : a spade Guinea ; a 5s. Piece; several old gold and silver Coins from the reign of Chas. II; a pair of silver Sugar Tongs ; a silver Salt Spoon, marked ' F. J. M. ;' a silver Tea Spoon, marked ' L T. L' or ' I. A. K-;' two silver oval Frames of Miniatures ; a gold Pencilcase, with topaz, marked ' T.' in German text, inscription on one side, ' Presented to the Revd. R. A. Taylor, St. Ewen's Church, Bristol, Daubigne's History of the Reformation presented by the Clerk, and a Silk Handkerchief from the Schosl Girls of the same Church,' engraved on the other sides of the case ; a bunch of gold Seals, one ' Elizabeth' on bloodstone, rubies in the side ; a small glass Seal, crest — key and secret ; a Seal with bugle ; a note Seal; and two silver waistband Buckles. Information to be given to Superintendent Emson, Somerset Constabulary, Temple Cloud, near Bristol. — Bow- street, September 6. Stolen between the of 8 a- m. and 7' 30 p. m. on the 31st ultimo, by means of housebreaking, from a cottage at Bertley, in the parish of Lingen, Herefordshire : a dark blue Overcoat, double- breasted, with two rows of buttons; a single- breasted dark cloth Coat, pockets outside, sloped very much at the corners of skirts ; a plaid Waistcoat, Tather of a blue cast; and an old- fashioned German silver cased Watch, with steel Chain attached, about 8 or 9 inches long, 2 watch keys, and an old coin about the size of a farthing, attached to the chain. Supposed by two men who enquired the way for Bishop's Castle, one is tall, very thin, and pale looking; wore a blue pilot coat, and cap : the other a short man ; dressed in dark clothes. Information to be given to Superintendent Dykes, County Police Station, Leominster, or to Sergeant Bound, Police Station, Wigmore, Herefordshire.— Bo'o- street, September 6. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Eccles, by means of housebreaking, between 3' 30 p. m. and 6 p. m. on the 2nd iust: a gold English- made Watch, gold dial, flowers engraved on back, and a small plain circle- centre for initial; a lady's long fancy gold Chain ; a gold Brooch, set with turquoise and diamond centre ; a pair of gold Ear- rings to match ; a gold Ring, set with five diamonds ; a gold Ring, set with pearls and diamond centre; a fine gold Necklet, with Locket attached, the latter has a fern leaf engraved on back, aud has the likeness of a gentleman inside; a gold neck ribbon Brooch, set with cryssalite stone in centre ; a £ 5 Bank of England Note; a Half- Sovereign in Gold ; and a few Shillings in Silver. Entrance effected by skeleton keys. £ b reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered, on application to Superintendent Bent, Old Trafford, Lancashire.— Bow- street, September 4. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. During the night of the 9th instant, the house of Mrs. Sismey, of Offord Cluney, Hunts, was broken and entered, and three silver Tea and one Mustard Spoon, marked ' E. D.,' a pair of new lace- up shooting Boots, with eyelet hooks near the top, and 120 Postage Stamps, stolen therein. Supposed by a man about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, very little whiskers, short hair, large full eyes, and stoops slightly ; dressed in a short dark coat, dark trousers, and black low- crowned felt hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Copping, St. Neot's, Huntingdon- shire.— Bow- strett, September 13. Stolen by means of housebreaking, on the 9th instant, at Wadhurst, Sussex : a crinoline Bonnet, trimmed with yellow ribbon, black lace, and pink roses; a buff- coloured cotton Dress, black buttons down the front; a Dress, white ground with blue stripes, deep frill round the bottom ; a plain white Petticoat; 2 yards of new Scotch Plaid; a white cotton Handkerchief, coloured border; a curly black astracan Jacket, brass buttons with a green stone in them ; a brown silk Umbrella, cane handle ; a black velvet Jacket, black binding; a black silk Skirt; two white Petticoats, one with frill rouud the bottom, the other plain calico, with one tuck, fastens with two hooks; 6f yards of new coarse Flannel; 3 yards of scarlet Flannel, partly made into a petticoat; 10 yards of new Calico, in three pieces, has been scalded ; a muslin Skirt, white and lavender; and a white cotton Dress, white buttons down the front, frill round the bottom. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes ; to Superinten- dent Peerless, Uckfield ; to Sergeant Avery, Court House, Mark Cross ; or at any Police Station in East Sussex.— Bow- strett, September 13. Stolen by housebreaking, during the night of the 7th instant, from Cavalry Barracks, Hounslow : a silver Soup Tureen, cover 9 inches by 6 inches, notched round edge, embossed knob on top, crest— crown and garter, ' Queen's Own Hussars' in cipher round garter; a black ribbed cut- away Coat, ' Stately & Co., Limerick,' under collar; two black cloth Vests ; a pair of Bedford cord Trousers ; a blue silk Scarf; a pair of military riding Boots, new ; and 14s. € d. in Silver. There were left behind a carpenter's Mallet, an old pilot Jacket, and a pair of leather lace- up Boots. — Metro- politan Police, T Division, September 13. Stolen between 3 and 6 p. m. on the 4th ultimo, from a cottage at Marden, Kent, by means of housebreaking: a black cloth Coat, pockets on hips, black silk lining, three buttons on front and two on back ; a drab vest ; a black billycock Hat; and an old pair of lace- up Boots. The offender is supposed to be wearing the stolen property, as an old suit was left behind. Information to be given to Super- intendent Morgan, Police Station, Cranbrook, Kent.— Bow- street, September 11. Between 8 a. m. and 12 p. m. on the 5th instant, a cottage at Oakshot, Surrey, was broken into and stolen therein : one black cloth Jacket, two black cloth Vests, one black cloth Overcoat with velvet Collar, one pair of grey Trousers, one grey Vest, one pair of pepper- and- salt- colour Trousers, two dark Vests, and a red woollen Shirt with black stripes. A man is suspected about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion, very long moustache and whiskers ; dressed in dark clothes. He left Esher Railway Station for London about 4 p. m. on the same day, carrying two large bundles. Information to be given to Superintendent Bungard, Surrey Constabulary, Chertsey.— Bow- street, September 9. Between 6 and 11 a. m. on the 4th instant, the dwelling- house of George Capleton, was broken into, and stolen there- in : a pair of black cloth Trousers; two cloth Vests, one black, the other a mixture with dark brown and black, with stripe up the front, lined with drab; a pair of worsted Stockings ; two new white Shirts ; a black felt Hat ; a Half- Sovereign ; & c. Supposed by a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark complexion, dark hair, and very little whiskers; dressed in old dark coat, dark trousers, and black cap, fitting close to head. Information to be given to Superintendent Mayne, Police Station, Sittingbourne, Kent.— Bow- street, September 9. Between 1 and 6 p. m., the 3rd instant, the dwelling- house of John Cook, Rainham, Kent, was broken into and stolen therein: one pair of lace- up Boots, one pilot cloth Suit, one black cloth Coat, brown Vest, two woollen Shirts, three new blue striped Shirts, four plated Tea Spoons, 1 silk Shawl, one Paisley Ditto, Eightpence in Copper Money, & c. By a man, a native of Barming, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 ins. high, light complexion, and slight whiskers. Supposed to be dressed in the stolen clothes. Information to be given to Superintendent Mayne, Police Station, Sittingbourne, Kent. — Bow- street, September 9. Description of a youth, charged at Whitby, on two cases Stolen on the night of the 2nd iustaut, from a field near of burglary ; he is about 17 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches| the Green Man, Leytonstone, Essex : a bright bay Mare, fat, HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a field at Halesowen, on the night of the 10th instant, the property of George Grainger : a valuable black cob Horse, 15 hands high, 7 years old, near hind fetlock white, and in good condition. Information to be given to Sergeant Kemp, Police Station, Halesowen, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, September 13. Further information respecting the Donkey stolen from Copalder, in the parish of Benwick, in the Isle of Ely, and advertised in the Police Gazette of the 2Sth ultimo : it was sold between Sutton and Haddenham, the next day, by a man, who is charged with stealing the same, he was going in the direction of Cambridgeshire or Suffolk, about 40 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair and whiskers under the chin ; dressed in dark chummy hat, velvet jacket, fustian or drabbet slop and trousers, old lace- up shoes, much worn at the heels and the toe of oue worn out. Information to be given to Inspector Mitchell, Chatteris, Isle of Ely.— Bow- street, September 13. Stolen during the night of the 7th instant, from a stable at Glebe Farm, Hanworth : a black cob Mare, aged, about 14 hands high, white on forehead and off hind heel, short tail, in good condition, and had on an old snaflle Bridle.— Metro- politan Police, T Dicision, September 13. Supposed to have been stolen during the night of the 9th instant, from a field near Clive Vale, in the parish of All Saints, Hastings : a dark brown mare Pony, aged, about 13 hands high, white mark dowu face, and off' hind foot white. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Glenister, Hastings, Sussex.— Bow- street, September 11. 2 P O L I C E G A Z E T T E. September 13 about 14 hands high, star with white streak down face, sand- crack in near hind hoof, long black wane, and switch tail. Any person giving such information at the Police Station, Wanstead, Essex, as will lead to the recovery of the mare and conviction of the offender or offenders, shall receive £ 2 reward. — Bow- street, September 11. Supposed to have been stolen, from Quest Moor Farm, in the parish of Eardisley, on the night of the 29th ultimo, the property of Mr. Thomas Williams : a cream- coloured cob horse Pony, aged, about 13 hands high, very fat, black mane and tail, saddle marked on back iu form of a horseshoe. In- formation to be given to Sergeant Edwards, Eardisley, Here- fordshire. — Bow- street, September 11. Stolen from Brynn Down Farm, in the parish of Roche, Cornwall, on the 23rd ultimo, the property of Richard slee- man : a sorrel mare Pony, aged, about 13 hands high, hollow back, star iu forehead, switch tail, fore legs rubbed by fetters, and is iu low condition. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Marshall, Cornwall Constabulary, Bodmin, Corn with, — Bow- street, September 6. Found at King's Heath, on the 30th ultimo, and supposed to have been stolen : an aged dark brown horse Pony, 11 hands high, several saddle marks upon back and long white streak across the ribs on off side, long plain head, thick mane, and switch tail. Information to be given at the Police Station, King's Heath, near Birmingham.— Bow- street, Sep-- teniber 6. Stolen from White House Farm, Polesworth, near Ather- stone, on the 1st instant: a brown mare Pony, about 12 hands high, about 4 years old, with brand mark on one or both hifid legs, and a white mark on the face, the property of Messrs. Morris, and Shaw, Polesworth. Information to be given to Inspector Hursher, Atherstone, or Sergeant Poultnev, Police Station, Polesworth, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, September 0. Stolen from an orchard, in the parish of Horsemonden, between the 24th and 25th ultimo: a dark she Donkey, 8 years old, blind of right eye, which looks white, turns off hind leg out, and is in good condition. Information to be given to Superintendent Morgan, Cranbrook, Kent.— Bow- st., September 4. Stolen on Hie 24th ultimo, from a field in Honey-' ane, Waltham Abbey : a red roau horse Pony, 13^ « hands 1 igh, black mane and tail, white star on forehead, " J. Charged on a warrant with embezzling £ 130, the moneys of his employer: CHARLES THOMAS SHEPHERD, 22 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair and eyes ; dressed in blue melton frock coat, light striped trousers, black vest, side- spring boots, and high black hat. Metropolitan Police, G Division, September 13. Absconded from Maidstone on the 7th instant, stealing anu taking with him a pair of black cloth Trousers, a brown Vest, a white Shirt, a black cloth Coat, a monkey Jacket with velvet collar, and a velvet Necktie : a desorter from the 3rd Dragoon Guards. Information to be given to Head Constable Gifford, Police Office, Maidstone, Kent.— liov- street, September 11. Stolen during the afternoon of the 7th instant, from the dwelling- house of Charles Salt, of Rainow, near Macclesfield', Cheshire, farmer : a large patent lever silver Watch, with a flat crystal glass, two small cracks on the dial, maker Mercer, London, No. 10242, steel Chain attached. By a man about 5 feet 6 inches high, dressed iu a brown cloth mixture jacket and cap, and dark grey trousers. Information to lie given tp Superintendent Williamson, County Police Office, Macclesfield, Cheshire.— Bow- street, September 11. Description of LEWIS LEWIS, for whose apprehension a warrant has been issued at Tunbridge Wells on a char ge of larceny : is about 30 years of age, 5 feet - 1 or 5 inches liigh, long light auburn hair, light complexion, very freckled face, very short neck, speaks English very imperfectly, says that he is a native of Belgium, a tailor, and sometimes performs on the stage during the winter ; dressed in grey cloth suit, scotch cap, or round crowned hat. He left Tunbridge Wells on the 8th instant in company with a young man dressed as a mid- shipman, aud they are supposed to have gone to London for the purpose of seeking employment, or to go to sea. Infor- mation to be giveu to Chief Constable Embery, Town Hall, Tunbridge Wells.— Bow- street, September 11. Description of JOHN DEAN, a commercial traveller, and native of Lancashire, charged on a warrant with embezzle- ment : about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark brown hair, sallow complexion, and slight whiskers and moustache ; dressed in a dark grey suit and black silk hat. Also of ALFRED WOODCOCK, commercial traveller and chemist and druggist, charged on a. warrant with embezzle- ment : about 28 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches higb, sallow complexion, brown hair, whisker :, and moustache, prominent nose, sunken eyes, medium build, and rolls slightly when walking ; dressed in a dark brown aud yellow mixture suit, sometimes wears a silk hat and sometimes a soft billycock hat; has a relative in Ripon aud another in Pontefract. Information to be given to Chief Constable Wetherel, Leeds, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, September 11. A warrant has been issued for the apprehension of GEORGE AMBROSE, alias McFEAN or McBEAN, charged with felony at the Maid's Head Inn, Stiifford, a^ advertised in the Police Gazette of the 9th ultimo ; he was convicted at Manchester in June, 1871, of being found in an hotel for an unlawful purpose, aud at the expiration of that term he was apprehended for having previously committed a felony at Liverpool, for which he was sentenced to nine months' imprisonment. A photograph may be obtained on application to Inspector Bowen, Stafford, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 9. Description of CHARLES ASHMAN, who absconded on the 29th ultimo, from a training stable at Lewes, where he was employed as stable lad, charged with stealing a Scotch tweed Jacket, and vest to match, red, green, and yellow stripe ; a black cloth Vest, and a pair of dark mixture Scotch tweed Trousers, the clothes fit a lad 5 feet 1 inch high, and hdve only been slightly worn : he is about 18 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, fair complexion, round face, aud rather large nose, light brown hair, aud proportionate figure ; dressed iu light tweed jacket and vest, light plaid trousers, and light round soft billy- cock hat, or he may be wearing the stolen clothing ; he has served 5 years apprenticeship at the training stables, at Lewes, and will probably seek similar emplovment. Information to be given to Superintendent Peacock, Lewes, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, September 6. Absconded from Hove on the 1st instant, charged with larceny : WM. SHULIER, a sweep, 32 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, rather stout, light hair, fresh complexion, and blind of the left eye; he will probably go hop picking. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Breach, Town Hall, Hove, near Brighton, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 6. Description of a man and woman who absconded from Great Yarmouth, on the 26th ultimo, charged with stealing a Bag, containing £ 290 iu Gold, the monies of Esther Turrell : The man is 29 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, blue eyes,, light hair ( curiy and parted down the centre), small light moustache aud whiskers, thin make, and very small features ; dressed in dark mixed cloth coat, tweed waistcoat and trousers, and black deerstalker hat. The woman is about 21 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, Dale complexion, ind- rather good Idoking ; dressed in brown jacket, trimmed with white fur, plain blue silk dress, white Dolly Varden hat, with blue feather, aud wears black ear- drops, It is believed they intend to emigrate. £ 20 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to . their apprehension aud recovery of the money, or in pro- portion thereto. Information to be given to Head Constable Tewsley, Police Station, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.— Bow- street, September 6. Description of THOMAS HARRIS, a tramping umbrella repairer, committed for trial at the Warwick Quarter Sessions, for obtaining an Umbrella by false pietences : 35 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, slenderly built, scar under left ear, brown hair, bald on top of head, close- cut whiskers, aud grey eyes ; dressed in light tweed jacket and waistcoat, four round bone buttons 011 waistcoat, high hat, elastic- side boots, and dark trousers. He generally stops in a town about a fortnight, and when he obtains a job, gets a testimonial to say he has done his work well, and on that gets new umbrellas from shopkeepers, stating that he has a customer for them, and absconds with them. On the 7th instant, the dead body of a female infant child, apparently newly born, was found floating in the Dearne and Dove Canal at Barnsley ; the body was nude, in a far advanced state of decomposition, had a piece of strong cord round the neck, and appears to have been iu the water several weeks. At the coroner's inquest a verdict was returned of ' Found dead, probably strangled.'
