Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. *, » Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all I. etters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. FORGERY. Description of a man who obtained £ 20 by means of forged cheques from the steward of the Great Eastern Rail- way Company's steamship ' Zealous,' on the passage from Harwich to Antwerp, on the lst instant: an Englishman, about 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, small feature?, slight dark whiskers, uo moustache, round shouldered, apparently suffering from some spinal complaint, and weariug au apparatus round the body to support the back ; dressed in black frock coat, dark tweed overcoat, vest, and trousers, aud brown felt hat; speaks a little French. Information to be given to Superintendent Hedington, Great Eastern Railway, Bishopsgate Station.— Dow- street, August 16. Absconded on the 24th June last, charged on a warrant with forgery : HENRY KAY, a leather factor, late of Leeds, about 35 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, stout build, florid complexion, light hair, thin on the top of the head, whiskers round the face ; dressed in dark mixture clothes, and wore a black paramatta hat, see Police Gazette of 28th June last. £ 100 reward. Information to be given to Superintendent Hunt, Leeds.— Bow- street. August 12. A small silver Geneva Watch, steel hands, jewelled in one hole. A gold lever Watch, crest— a stag, on the back, and ( supposed) ' H. M. T.' The gold repeater and stop Watch, maker Courvoisier, adver- tised in the Police Gazette of the 9th instant, has been recovered. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Brighton.— Bow- street, August 12. ROBBERY AND LARCENY PROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person at Lewes Races : On the 9th instant, a black Opera Glass, engraved ' E. & E. Emanuel, The Hard, Portsea.' On the 10th iustant, a small open- face Geneva silver Watch, No. 16196. Stolen from the person of a gentleman at Clay Cross on the 13th instaut : a silver lever Watch, gold dial, jewelled in four holes, engine- turned case, much worn, maker Bluudell, Liverpool, No. 3342. Stolen from the person in Brighton, between the 9th and 13th instant: A small silver Geneva Watch, ' J. W. H.' scratched on inside of outer case. A double- case silver lever Watch. A gold Geneva double- case lady's hunting Watch, large size, cha3ed with blue enamel, white face. A silver hunting Watch, maker J. Miller, 262, High- st., Poplar, No. 2645. A plaiu gold hunter Watch, old- fashioned, makers Tinker and Edmonstone, Leeds. A gold dome case huuter chronometer Watch, engine turned, enamel seconds dial, maker McKeown, No, 7117. A pair of large aluminium Opera- glasses, covered with black leather, maker Callaghan, ' J. B. Baillie,' engraved ou them. Information to be given to Chief Constable White, Town Hall, Brighton.— Bow- street, August 14. Stolen from the person, at the races and elsewhere in Brighton: A Geneva silver cased Watch. A pair of Opera- glasses, covered in black, a scratch on side of one of the gli. Bsej. A gold Pin in shape of a horse's hoof. A very small gold half- hunter Geneva Watch, plain case. A large silver Geneva Watch. A gold lever Watch, maker Dent, London BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between the 13th and 19th ultimo, the painters shop at Messrs. Richardson, Duck & Co., South Stockton, was broken and entered, aud stolen therein : 7 or 8 Books of middle Gold, 3 or 4 Books of pale Gold, a small box of sable writing Pencils, a small box of camtl hair Pencils, small packages of gold, silver, and copper Bronze, in brown paper parcels, a glaziers Diamond, maker Sharatt and Newat, a small light brown canvas Bag, 2 Half- Crowns, and 3 Florins. Information to be given to Superintendent Simpson, North Riding Con- stabulary, South Stockton- on- Tees.— Bow- street, August 23. Stolen on the 19th instant, by means of housebreaking, at Roston, Derbyshire : two dark cloth Coats, made straight in front, with pockets outside, one of them is marked with drab paint on the back near the shoulder; two Vests, one brown, the other of the same material as the coats; a pair of brown corduroy trousers ; a pair of cloth Trousers ; and two pairs of Boots, one with elastic sides, the ether lace- up. By two tramps, of low stature, who will probably be wearing the stolen articles, as they left their own clothes behind. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Whieldon, Ashbourne, Derbyshire.— Bow- street, August 23. Description of a man charged with burglary, at Howden, ou the 16th instant, and stealing £ 8 in Gold ; £ 5 in Silver ; 12s. in Copper ; a wedding Ring, broken in two ; a common Keeper ; a lady's gold Ring, with large single amethyst stone; a pair of man's elastic- side Boots, nearly new, buttons on front, a button , off one boot : he is an Italian, a blacksmith, about 25 years of age, 5 feet high, black hair, cut short, small black moustache, black whiskers, dark complexion, and speaks English badly ; dressed " in light grey soft felt hat, light suit, vest and trousers lighter than the coat, black and red woollen shirt, very dirty, black and violet plaid woollen scarf, he may be wearing the stolen boots, or a pair of very old and much worn Wellingtons. Information to be given to Inspector Robertson, East Riding Constabulary, Howden.— Bow- street, August 21. On the night of the 15th instant the dwelling- house of Mr. J. Chamberlain, of Beeby, Leicestershire, was broken and entered and stolen therein : a gold lever Watch, white dial and black figures, no dome, consular cases, much worn, No. 50268, maker Harrison, Warwick ; a massive gold guard Chain, with heavy common links ; eight Sovereigns, one Shilling and Sixpence, and Threepence in Silver ; nine Cigars; and a pair of brown tweed Trousers, with buttons stamped ' Moxon, Leicester.' Also on the same night the larder of the Rev. E. L. Woodcock, of Beeby Rectory, was broken and entered, and some eatables stolen therein. These offences are supposed to have been committed by two tramps, who were seen iu the neighbourhood ; one a man about 50 years of age, the other younger. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Burdett, Aylestone, or to the County Constabulary Office, Leicester.— Bow- street, August 19. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Supposed stolen from a field at Tapton, on the night of the 19th iustant: a dark brown Horse Pony, 11 hands high, blind on right eye, and scar on left side. Information to be given to Superintendent Oldham, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. — Bow- street, Augusta. Stolen from a field at Sand, in the parish of Wedmore, on the night of the 18th instant : a dark brown Mare, about 16 hands high, one white foot behind, near side, white star ou forehead, and a wound on the white foot. j£ 2 reward. Information to be given to Superintendent Gillbauks, Somerset Constabulary, Axbridge.— Bow- street, August 23. Stolen from a field at Woolston, in the parish of St. Mary's Extra, on the night of the 19th instant: a bay Gelding, aged, 14 hands high, few white spots on back, caused by the pad, marks of wound on near hind leg, caused by being hung up in a trace. Information to be given to Superintendent Stannard, Hants Constabulary Station, Bitterne.— Bow- street, August 23. Stolen from Cranham, on the night of the 21st instant: a black cob Horse, aged, about 14 hands high, white down forehead, white hind fetlocks, and tail cut short. And a roan coloured Pony, aged, mane and tail cut, and light brown nose; the property of the Rev. Mr. Armatage, of Tods- cottage. Information to be given to Superintendent Hanbridge, Stroud, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, Auqust 23. Stolen during the night of the 18th instant, from a field in the parish of Stapleford, Essex : a light bay Mare, 4 years old, 15^ hands high, long mane, switch tail, a little white round the off hind hoof, scar on near fore hoof, and a blemish on off eye. Information to be given to Inspector Gilpin, Romford, Essex.— Bow- street, August 21. The brown Mare stolen from Santon Downham, as advertised in the Police Gazette of the 12th instant, has been found, but the boy is still at large ; he was dressed when last seen at Norwich, on the 17th instant, in an old shabby light grey cloth coat, with one button at the top, dark cloth cap, with flap to turn down over the ears, and drabbet trousers. Information to be given to Inspector Hoggar, Police Station, Brandon, Suffolk.— Bow- street, August 21. Obtained on the 19th instant, by false pretences, from Mr. J. Bennett, landlord of the Bell Inn, Romsey, Hants: a bay horse Pony, about 14 hands high, tail squared off above the hocks, in good condition; a set of silver- mounted Harness; and a trap Cart, painted brown, picked out with white, paneln imitation of cane work. By a man about 19 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, light complexion ; dressed in black bowler hat, dark coat and vest, and light- coloured trousers. Information to be given to Superintendent Kellaway, Hants Constabulary, Romsey.— Bow- street, August 21. Stolen from a yard at Copalder, in the parish of Benwick, in the Isle- of- Ely : a small light brown she Donkey, has a stumpy foot on the near side behind, which causes it to walk on its toe, and had one shoe off. Information to be given to Inspector Mitchell, Chatteris, Cambs.— Bou>- st., August 21 Stolen from a field at Turnham Green, Chiswick: a brown Gelding, 6 years old, 15 hands high, lately blistered on fore coronets, also over loins, and white star on forehead. Metropolitan Police, T Division, Auqust 19. Charged with cattle stealing at Muirhead of Logie, Forfarshire, on 3rd November last: THOMAS MOFFAT, alias PAPER COLLAR, flesher or drover, of Glasgow, but of Irish descent, about 21 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, red- brown hair cut short, no whiskers, grey eyes, common nose, round face, fresh and clear complexion, ordinary make, and smart appearance; he left Glasgow at the end of November last, and went to Newcastle- upon- Tyne or neigh- bourhood; he was seen recently at Stagshawbank Fair, Northumberland, and is supposed to be acting as a horse, sheep, or cattle drover in the north of Eu'gland. He may have assumed another name, probably MURPHY. Infor- mation to be given to the Chief Constable of Forfarshire, Forfar, N. B.— Bow- street, August 19. Stolen from a field at Bishopstone, Wilts, on the 16th instant, a brown nag Mare, aged, about 14 hands high, shod with leather on the near hind foot. Information to be given to Superintendent North, Wilts Constabulary, Swindon.— Bow- street, August 19. Stolen from a stable at the Gaskell Arms Hotel, on the night of the 9th instant, the property of Mr. Phillip Cox, farmer, Shipton : a bay Mare, 14 hands high, rising 4 years old, bang tail, white blaze down forehead, and black legs : also a saddle nearly new, with two dark coloured girths, and a Bridle with Pelham bit, with only one rein on. £ 2 reward is offered for the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offeuders. Information to be given to Superintendent Ivins, Bridgnorth, or to Sergeant Thomas, Much Wenlock, Salop.— Bow- street, August 19. Supposed stolen on the 4th instant, from a field in Chester- street, Wrexham : a light grey Pony, from 10£ to 11 hands high, aged, with a long tail, and clipped ; and a dark- coloured Colt, about 6 weeks old. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Bradshaw, Police Office, Wrexham, Denbighshire.— Bow- street, August 16. Stolen from a field at Brockton, between 7 a. m. and 5 p. m. on the 4th instaut, the property of Samuel Brown, of Brockton, Salop : a wether Lamb of the Shropshire Down breed, marked on the right side with the letter ' B.' Infor- mation to be given to Chief Superintendent Richardson, Wellington, or to Sergeant Barrett, Shiffnal, Salop.— Bow- street, August 16. Further information respecting the two Welsh Lambs, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 14th instant, as stolen from Horton, near Malpas, the man thereiu described, has been traced, and the sheep which he had in his possession, are not those missing, and the man in not to be apprehended ; the Lambs are still missing. Information to be given to Superintendent Wilson, Tattenhall, or to Sergeant Powell, Malpas, Cheshire.— Bow- street, August 16. Stolen from a field at Mosely during the night of the 10th instant : a brown horse Cob, 14^ hands high, 7 years old, one fore and one hind foot white, collar mark on shoulder, and sides rubbed by the shafts, tail cut short. £ 5 reward will be paid on conviction of the offender or offenders on application to Superintendent Humphreys, Bong's Heath Worcestershire.— Bow- street, August 14. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded from Wheatley, near Oxford, charged with stealing a brickmakers turning Iron, which has been recovered : WILLIAM alias DOODEY DOVER, about 21 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, sandy hair; dressed in old white slop, and old cord trousers ; is likely to be working in a brickfield. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Fernsby, or Inspector Yates, County Police Station, Oxford, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, August 23. Description of a man who absconded from Royston, Herts, on the evening of the 18th instant, charged with stealing a stnall wooden Box, containing about lt) s. ill Silver, the property of Mr. Ruckwood : 31 years of age, 5 feet 7 ins. high, dark hair and complexion, whiskers shaved oil', large scar below the left ear, and squints with one eye ; dressed in dark mixture suit, dark stripe down side of trousers, black high- crowued hat, with hat band; he obtained food and lodgings two days and two nights, under false pretences, by stating that he had hired a house in Baldock- street, and was going to open it as a shop for the sale of Berlin Wool auf! fancy Articles. Description of a man charged with breaking into a cottage at Bletchingley, Surrey, on the 15th instant, aud stealing wearing apparel, which he sold at Redhill: he is about 35 years of age, 5 feet) 8 inches high, lather stout, pale complexion, long nose, brown hair and whiskers^ and tuft on chin ; dressed in dark coat and vest, cord trousers, and hard felt hat; be said lie was a painter, and had marks of paint on his coat and trousers.
