Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or Btolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor milMt be (> re|> ai( l, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that tho Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from tho Militia, as well as those from tho regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MUHBER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Mrs. SARAH SQUIRE, age 76, and her daughter CHRISTIANA, age 38, were found dead at 46, Hyde- road Hoxton, on the 10th instant, fom the effects of injuries inflicted by some person or persons unknown. £ 100 reward will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person who will give such information aud evidence as shall lead to the discovery aud conviction of the murderer or murderers ; and the Secretary of State for the Home Department will advise the giant of Her Majesty's most gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being the pel- son who actually committed the murder, who will give such information as shall lead to a like result. Information to be given to Superintendent Williamson, Detective Department, Great Scotland- yard, London, S. W.; to Superintendent Green, N Division, Hoxton; or at auy of the Metropolitan Police Stations.— Dow- street, July 22. About 2 p. m. on the 29th ultimo, some person at present unknown, left at the cloak- room, General Railway Station, Chester, a black American leather bag, and ou paying the usual charge of 2d., received a receipt numbered ' 369.' Ou the 9th iustaut, the bag was found to coctain the dead body of a Female Uhild, apparently about two weaks old ; from certain marks upon the said child, and from other circum- stances, it is believed that its death was the result of violence, aud auy person who can give iuformation which shall lead to the identity of the person who left the bag, or of the body of the child, or the bag or materials found iu it, are requested to communicate at once, personally, or in writing, with the undersigned. Description of the bag: Black American leather, 16 iuches by 12 inches, lined with brown calico, lias a lock, but no key attached, beiug at the time it was handed into the cloak- room unlocked, but fastened by twine. Around the body was about half a womaus white flannel petticoat, near y new, about 2 feet in length, without top baud, aud having a seam an inch in depth aro ind the bottom, a cotton baud about 24 iuches long by 3 iuches wide, and upon the body, a small calico chemise. Pasted upon the bag were two labels, namely, ' G. W. R., Cheste r lo I. ndou,' aud' G. W. R., Chester to Oswestry.' The articles described can be seeu at the City Police Ollice, To vn Hall, Chester. Stolen from the person at Bat and Ball Fair, near Hails- ham, Sussex, on the 23rd instant: a medium- size Metallic Pocket- book, nearly filled with, writing, aud containing two £ 20 Notes and several £ 10 ami Notes, - ill of the Bank of England, and supposed to be of the following Nos. 29761, 29767, dated 20th May, 1872, 17460, dated 23rd March, 1872, the £ 5 notes supposed numbered 26805— 6— 7— and 8 ; also a Cheque for £ 10 6s., payable from Joseph Gorringe to R. R. Verral; and several pieces of Scrap Memorandum. Sup- posed by a man, about 22 years of age, about 5 feet 9 iuches high, sallow complexion, round full face, brown hair, cut very short, no whiskers or moustache, aud rather stout figure ; dressed in a blue cloth overcoat, dirty drab colour trousers, black billycock hat, and a white silk handkerchief, tied loosely round the neck. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes; to Superintendent Wag horn, Hailsham ; or at any Police Station in East Sussex.— Bow- strect, July 26. Stolen from the person ou the race- course at Worcester, on the 18th instant: a silver Watch, with gold hands, No. 28234, maker H. Lyons, Birmingham ; a silver Geneva Watch, with figured back, maker Vaceron ; a lady's gold Geneva lever Watch, No. 4481, maker Weatherley, Poultry, Loudon. £ 2 reward will be paid iu each case by the Head Constable of Worcester, for such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of, the watches.— Bow- street, July 24. Stolen from the person at the Amalgamated Club Festival, at Tuubridge Wells, on the 17th iustaut : a double- case silver verge Watch, maker Grimshaw, Loudon, has seconds hands, ' R. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, about 4 a. m. on the 13th instaut, whilst in the neighbourhood of Covent Garden, Loudon : a silver lever hunting Watch, capped and jewelled, maker W. Renshaw, Northampton, No. 23314. Information to be given to Chief Constable Keenan, Borough Police, Northampton.— Bow- street, July 19. fiont door, which was imperfectly fastened. Supposed by tramps. Information to be given to Superintendent Checkers, Upton- on- Severn, or to Inspector Turner, Great MalverL, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, July 24. During the night of the 16th, or the morning of the 17th instant, the dwelling- house of Miss Reddish, of Prest- bury, near Macclesfield, Cheshire, was broken and entered through the pantry window, which had been left unfa- tened, aud the following property stolen therein : an old- fashioned metal Tea- pot, oval- shaped, and chased at the sides ; a metal Tea- pot, rouud- sbaped, with black handle, which is br . ken ; six German silver Tea Spoons; a cooked Fowl; and a Bottle of Porter. Information to be given to Superintendent Williamson, County Police Office, Macclesfield, Cheshire.— Dow- street, July 19. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Description of JOHN STANLEY, a weaver, and a native of Newtown, Montgomeryshire, who absconded on the 21st iustaut, charged with burglary : between 30 aud 40 yrs. of age, 5 feet 4 iuches high, pale complexion, thin face, high cheek bones, large mouth, pockpitted, black curly hair aud whiskers round the throat, and bald headed ; dressed in an old black cloth jacket and vest, white cord trousers, and elastic- side boots. Iuformation to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, or to P. S. Hudson, Newtown, Montgomery- 1 shire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 26. During the night of the 19th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. W. L. Welsh, of Wilmslow- park, near Macclesfield, Cheshire, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : two: pairs of men's elastic- side Boots ; two plated Salt Spoons ; a ' pair of plated Sugar Tongs ; and a black biilycock Hat, with round crown aud stiff brim. The offender is supposed to be weaiiug one pair of the stolen boots, as au old pair was left | ou the premises : a man of the following description was seen leaving the house about 430 a. m. on the same morning, a low stiff man, with large dark whiskers, without coat, and was wearing a claret- coloured striped shirt, and a billycock hat ( suuposed to be the stoleu one). Information to be giveu to Superintendent Williamson, County Police Office, Maccles- field, or to Sergeant Garner, Wilmslow, Cheshire.— Birc- strect, July 24. Between 11 a. m. and 4 30 pm. on the 20th instant, the dwelling house of David Kendall, of Saudburn, in the town- ship of Stockton- on- the- Forest, was broken and entered and stolen therein : a grey cloth Coat, with black velvet collar ; a black cloth Waistcoat, with black sleeves ; a pair of Boots, with brass eyelet holes, and patent leather frouts. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Hunter, North Riding Constabulary Office, Heworth, York— Dow- street, July 24. Between 8 a. m. and 2' 30 p. m. on the 22nd instant the cottage at Cleveland- road, iu the parish of Great Malvern, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therein : a pair of men's black cloth Trousers ; a boy's black cloth Vest; a boy's grey Vest; a black cloth Jacket; an indian silk Pocket- handkerchief; an indian silk Necker- 1 chief, black with white flower ; a woman's Shawl, black silk mixture; a pair of woman's cloth Boots, lace inside ; 5 lbs. of moist Sugar, wrapped in yellow paper ; and a Purse with a clasp and repaired with au old kid glove, contaiuing 2s.; entrance is supposed to have been effected by means of the ( HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a field at Horley during the night of the 15th instant: a bay nag Mare, aged, about 15i hands high, black legs, long switch tail, star on forehead, near fore leg slightly bent over aud slight eulargement on one hock, corn iu frog of near fore foot, and white speck in near eye. Supposed by two men of the following description, one between 30 and 35 years of age, about 6 feet high, brown hair, no whiskers; dressed in brown suit with dark stupes, and round bat, has scars from cuts on back of hands, aud has the appearance of a pugilist ; the other about 28 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 iuches high, light complexion aud hair, and small light whiskers ; dressed in a brown suit, and billycock hat, aud has the appearance of a horse dealer ; they were driving a pony about 13 bauds high, broken winded, and low cart. £ 10 reward will be paid for any information as shall lead to the recovery of the mare, and conviction of the offender or offenders. Stolen from the Park Farm, Bridgend, in the parish of Newcastle, on the 18th instant: six Calves, abont 6 mouths old, of the Hereford breed, the property of Mr. Richard Jones. Information to be given to Superintendent Sadler, Constabulary Office, Bridgend, Glamorgan. — Bow- strect, July 26. Stolen on the night of the 11th instant, from Sandfield, in the parish of Brandsburton, Yorkshire, the property of Mr. W. Whiting, farmer : a wether Lamb, marked ou the left ear and with a dot of red paint on the rump. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Wright, East Riding Constabulary, Police Station, Leven.— Bow- street, Jul' 22. Stolen at 2 30 p m. on the 16th inst., in the Commercial- road : a chesnut Mare, white face, and a small Van, ' W. Day, 1, Holland- street, Southwark,' ou side, coutainin:' three casks of Oil, a cask of Lead, three cases of Glass, and a case of Paints, all marked ' T. L. T.', and numbered from 1 to 8 inclusive.- Metropolitan Police, K Division, July 22. Stolen on or about the 18th instant, from Kerry, the property of Mr. R. Venables : seven Welsh E • es, four Lambs, aud two Rams, of the Kerry Hill breed, pitch marked ' R. V.' on both sides, aud crowfoot on some of them, raddled in the shape of a sword on the side. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Newtown, or to Police Con- stable Humphreys, Kerry, Montgomeryshire. — Dun- street, July 22. A reward of £ 25 is offered to any person who sba'l give such information as may lead to the thief, aud the recovery of the Horse aud Van, stolen from Vernon Mews, Hammer- smith, ou the 10th instaut, aud advertised iu the Police Gazette of the 19th.— Metropolian Police, E Division, July 22. Stolen from the Crosty, in the parish of Carnn, about the 3rd iustaut: three small Ewes and Lambs, not shorn, the ewes have about half of the right ear cut off, swallow fork and triangle punch hole iu left ear, thj lambs have a raddle mark formiug a ring round the neck, one is a very good one got by a Shropshire dowu ram, aud was kept for a ratu, the property of Mr. McFarlan, Hendre, who offers a reward of £ 5 for the apprehension and couvictiou of the offender aud recovery of the sheep, which was supposed to have been sold iu Welsh- pool Fair, ou the 8th instant. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Newtown, or to Police Constable Pearson, Caersws, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- strect, July 19. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen from Bishopsgate Station, about 9 30 p. m. on the 20th instant : a browu leather Portmanteau, about 3 feet long by 2, containing about 150 odd Boots ( Patterns); a browu leather Sample Case, also containing Boots, with brass plate, engraved ' Homan, 2S, Wormwood- street'; aud a small Writing- case, coutaiuing various papers, and engraved ' W. Johnson, Sheffield' ou the lock; the portmanteau was fastened with two leather straps, aud addressed ' Mr. John- son, Salisbury Arms Hotel, Hertford.' By two meu, one about 5 feet 11 inches high, slight make, dark complexion, aud small tuft of hair on cliiu ; dressed iu dark cloth suit, aud high silk hat. The other is about 5 fe- t6 iuches high, slight make, fair complexion, light hair, .- m ill moustache, and no whiskers ; dressed iu a dark mixture suit. Absconded on the 16th instant from the city of York, charged ou a warrant with embezzlement : THOMAS WOOD, 27 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches^ high, fresh com- plexion,' dark brown hair, whiskers ou side'of face, thin face, has been in the Array, and is marked with the letter ' D ; dressed iu short fustian jacket and vest, printed fustian trousers ( imitation cloth) and black billycock hat; his clothiug will have flour marks upon them on account of having been lately employed as a carter at Mr. Leatham's Flour Mill in this city. " Information to be given to Chief Constable Haley, Police Office, York .- Bow- street, Jain 26. Stolen from a bedroom at Albert House, Albert- terrace, Margate, on the 24th instant : a small gold Geneva Watch, gold face, no seconds hand, maker— Bennett, Cheapside ; a loug gold neck Chain, small links ; a gold Brooch, blue enamel, with five diamonds in the centre, and Ear- rings to match, but wi'. h one diamond in the centre, all have fringe; a gipsy Ring, with two emeralds and diamond iu the centre ; a gold Ring with two diamonds and ruby in the centre ; a gold Brooch with a strap aud buckle across, aud a small gold Chain, with small links. By a man about 26 or 27 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fair complexion, and slight moustache ; dressed iu black cloth suit, black alpine hat, and light shoes. Information to be given to Head Constable Compton, Town Hall, Margate.— Bow- street, July 26. Absconded from Weymouth Barracks, charged with breaking and entering the room of Sergeant T. H. Weather- head, aud stealing therein : au English silver lever open- face Watch, a large gold Chain, cable links, having a lious'head on white stone attached, first three numbers 337, the other- numbers not known ; a double- case Watch, maker Chapman, Portsea ; a gold Chain, mixed pattern; a gold Locket, con- taiuiug a bloodstone and heart, gold on outside, glass broken; three £ i> Notes, of Messrs. Williams, Thornton, aud S. ykes, Dorchester, Weymouth, or Portland Banks ; also some Gold and Silver. JOHN CLARK, private 77th Regiment, 5 feet 11 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, lather inclined to curl, little or no whiskers or moustache, has a sulleu downcast look, otherwise of a smart soldier- like appear- ance. He is in company with a prostitute named ELIZA KING, who assisted liim iu the robbery, about 4 feet 11 ins. high, rather slightly built, hair fashionably cut, dark com- plexion, good looking, she is a native of Poole Dorset, but has been living at Portsmouth or Gosport, from which place she came to Weymouth with the 77th Regiment, aud she states she is married to Clark ; dressed iu black jacket, dark dress. He stated that he was about to desert aud go to America ; they left Weymouth by 6' 20 a. nr. train on the 24th, and left the train at Dorchester, supposed to be m iking for Liverpool, luformation to be given to Superintendent Vickery, Police Office, Weymouth, Dorset, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- street, July 26. Absconded from Hastings, oil the loth instant, charged with stealing a black cloth Coat, with pockets on the hips ; a black cloth Jacket, boy's size ; a pair of tweed Trousers and Vest; and other Articles; the property of Charles Steven- son : ELIZABETH LEWIS, 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 iuches high, full face, browu hair, turning grey, and stammers when excited ; dressed iu an old black bouuet, dark linsey dress, aud dark shawl ; is known at Maidstone ; supposed to be in company with Richard Lewis, a tramping gardener, who has been convicted for stealing Harness in Kent. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Superintendent Glenister, Town Hall, Hastings, who holds a warrant for her apprehension.— Bow- st• eet, July 24. Stolen on the 21st instant, from the screw steamer ' Magnet,' whilst lying in the dock at Maryport, the property of the chief engineer : a black cloth dress Coat, with ferral neck, two pockets outside; a blue pilot cloth Jacket By WILLIAM SANEL, 26 years of age, a sailor, native of Belfast, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, whiskers on chin, small moustache, brown hair, proportionate figure ; dressed in a blue monkey jacket and cap ; he formerly sailed with the ' Magnet,' and was seen aboar d, but made his escape. Stolen from South Otterington, on the nigh' of the 16th or early on the morning of the 17th iustant : a metal Pan, to hold about two gallons, and which has siuee been recovered. By a mau, who was hawking pots, with au old lirown pony and a blue painted four- wheeled wagon, with the name of ' J. Anderson, hawker, Wishaw,' painted on the olf side, he sold the pony and wagon OD the 17th instant, to a man named William Hudson, 10, Queen- street, Sunderland. He is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 5 iuches high, dark browu hair, dark complexion, and proportionate make ; dressed iu a grey topcoat, cord trousers, and brown billycock hat; stated, when he sold the pony and wagon, that he was going to Leeds; he is supposed to have stolen the pony and wagon. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Walms- ley, Northallerton, or to Inspector Nicholson, North Riding Constabulary, Thirsk.— Bow- street, July 24. Description of MAJOR MURTON, charged with stealing £ li Is. 6d., consisting of 3 £•> Canterbury Notes aud other monies from William Stokes, of Wincheap, on the 5tli instaut: he is about 63 years of age, 6 feet high, light complexion, short whiskers and moustache turning grey, browu hair turuing grey, very sharp eyes, thin long lace ; diessed iu grey coat, light cord trousers aud vest, round felt or straw hat, lace- up boots. Information to be given to Superintendent Davies, Canterbury, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- st., July 24. Description of THOMAS COLBRAN, charged on warrant with stealing a Watch from a house in Brighton, where he had lodged one night: 23 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, thin face, good teeth, a few dark whiskers, and slight moustache ; dressed in white blouse, worsted cord trousers, and black round- crowned hat; he is a stableman, and has a relative living at Rye. Information to be given to Chief Constable White, Brighton, Sussex. — Bow- st., July 22. Absconded on the 16th instant from No. 19, Earl- street, Seven Dials, charged with stealing a gold Geneva Watch, siuce fouud pledged, a mau, 25 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexiou, saudy hair, small moustache ; dressed in a black cloth coat, light trousers, dark vest, and billycock hat; supposed gone to Uxbridge. - Metropolitan Police, E Division, July 22. Absconded on the lltlr iustant from No. 56, Eagle- street, Holborn, charged with stealing six coloured Engravings, 36 inches by 25, subject, three huntsmen, horses, and pack of hounds, ' William Selby Lourides, Esq ,' under centre figure, in german gilt frames, complete, the property of Messrs. Thomas Brown aud Stewart: a man, li) years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair complexion, fair hair, grey " e) es, under jaw slightly twisted ; dressed iu a black cutaway coat and vest, cord trousers, side- spring boot3, aud felt hat, who was entrusted with the above property to convey to No. 96, Glou- cester- place.— Metropolitan. Abconded from Newbold Verdon, Leicestershire, on the 14tli instant, charged ou a warrant with embezzling Money belonging to Thomas Smith his master, oil the 11th instant: GEORGE EDWARDS, 16 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark browu hair inclined to curl, cut short, round features, and fresh complexion ; dressed iu a grey suit, blue necktie, aud black aud white straw hat ; a baker's assistant, and it is supposed he will try to follow the same employmeut. Stolen frcm the dwelling- house of James Daniels, in the parish of Blean, Kent, ou the 10th instant: a dark corded striped Coat, pockets at sides ; a yellow cotton Pocket Hand- kerchief ; and some Provisions.
