Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may hear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor UHDNI he J « reg » al « t, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot bo published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Found in a lane at Marie Hill, iu the parish of Prest- bury, on the 4th instant : the dead body of a newly- born mule Child, wrapped in a piece of brown paper, with a piece of white tape tied round its neck. At an inquest held on the 11th iustant, a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' was returned against some person or persons unknown. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Dunham, Police Court, Slough, Bucks.— Bow- stnet, June 14. Stolen from the person of a gentleman in Northampton, on the 4th instant : four £ 10 Bank of Euglaud Notes, Nos. 6359c> to 63593 inclusive ; and two £ b ditto, Nos. 27523 and 275' 4. Two womeu are committed to take their trial at the ensuing sessions for the borough of Northampton for the robbery, but the notes have not been recovered. Information to be given to Chief Constable Keenan, Northampton.— Bow- street, June 14. Stolen from the person on Harpenden Race Course, on the 5th iustant : a silver lever Watch, single case, No. 426, maker Williss, Clerkenwell Green. Information to be given to Inspector chapman, Herts Constabulary, Hatfield.— Bow- street, June 12. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. Late on the night of the 2nd iustant, or early on the following morning, some person wilfully, wickedly, and feloniously set fire to or caused to be ignited a large heap or bing of coal or other mineral, commonly called or known as Torbanehill mineral, then lying upon the lands of, and adjacent to, the Mansion House at Torbane hill, near Bathgate, iu the county of Linlithgow. A reward of £ 200 will be paid to any person or persons giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. In- formation to be given to the Procurator Fiscal, or to the Chief Constable of Linlithgowshire, Linlithgow.— Bow- street, June 19. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. PATRICK DRUMMOND or DRUM is charged with assault and robbery at Bathgate, on the 17th April last : he is a labourer, a native of county Fermanagh, Ireland, last known residence, Bathgate, 24 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches hiob, rather long thin face, dark complexion, black or very dark brown hair, cut short, short black whiskers on cheeks, long on chin, long thin nose, thin cheeks, dark brown eyes, dark eyebrows, ordinary make, smart appearance ; generally dressed in dark brown cloth cap or high- crowned felt hat, blue shooting coat, dark brown cloth trousers with narrow black stripe, vest of same material as trousers, winsey shirt, linen collar, and elastic- side boots, half Torn. Also, charged with assault to danger of life, at Uphall, on the 8th instant: THOMAS FARRELL, a labourer, a native of county Roscommon ( supposed Carrick- on- Shannon), Irelaud, last residence Uphall, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, rather long face, swarthy complexion, light brown hair, faint whiskers, sharp nose, full cheeks, grey eves, fair eye- brows, stout make, supposed sun- freckled, walks erect, but generally slowly ; dressed when last seen in dark cloth cap, brown or dark grey coat and vest, light cord trousers, white cotton shirt, and new lace- up boots with large s] arables in soles. And DENNIS MARTIN, a labourer, a native of Ireland, last residence, Uphall, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches hi » b, broad face, ruddy complexion, fair hair, no whiskers, full cheeks, large mouth, thick lips, bluish eyes, bleared looking, fair eyebrows, ordinary make, soft appearance, and strong Irish accent; dressed when last seen in loose pilot cloth jacket, much faded, dark tweed trousers, supposed dark velvet cap, and blucher boots, cut on hiud quarter. Martin is believed to be a cousin of Farrell's, and to belong to the same neighbourhood. Sheriffs warrants have been granted for their apprehension. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Linlithgow. Bow- street, June 19. Stolen from the person of a gentleman on the 4th instant, at the parish of Eton : a gold patent lever Watch, makers Heale and Company, Manchester, No. 270. £ 5 reward will be paid on recovery of the Watch and conviction of the BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Some time between 11 p. m. on the 15th and 3 a. m. on the 16th inrtaut, the office of Messrs. Horton and Sou, Black Lake Colliery, West Bromwich, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therein : a black paper m! ich6 Suuif Box, embossed lid ; a boxwood ditto, sporting figure on lid with guns and dogs ; a three slide Telescope iu Mack case, maker Saloiu and Co., Princess- street, Edinburgh, en- graved on cap ; a Letter Balance on mahogany stand, and five brass Weights— two J oz., one ^ oz., one 1 oz., and one 2 oz. ; one ivory handled Pocket Knife and Fork, fitted to- gether, about 9 inches long when opey : and about 30s. in silver Money. Information to be given to Sergeant Smith, Greets Green, West Bromwich, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, June 21. Stolen from a cottage at Newland, by means of house- breaking, during the 15th instant: an old fashioned silver verge Watch, with apiece of string attached, the property of Thomas Harsnott. Supposed by a tramp of the following description, who was seen iu the neighbourhood : about 5 feet 7 inches high, and dressed in light slop, dark trousers, and black billycock hat. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Checketts, Upton- on- Severn, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, June 19. Between 12 midnight and 4 a. m. on the 15th instant, the dwelling- house of James Battye, of Cartworth, innkeeper, - was entered through the coalhouse door, and about £' i in silver and copper Money stolen therein. A man of the following description was seeu loitering near the house, and is suspected : a tramping labourer, 22 or 23 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fresh complexion ; dressed iu drab jacket, corduroy trousers, and old cloth cap. Information to be given to Superintendent Heaton, West Riding Constabu- lary, Huddersfield.— / low- street, June 19. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between 9 a. m. and 9 p. m. on the 9th instant, at South Witham Common : a man's dress Coat, orange, green, aud white mixture, pocket iu each flap, inside pocket in left breast, the property of George Bourne, groom to R. Heathcote, Esq., Black Hull. Supposed by two men of the following description : one 20 or 21 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high ; dressed in dark clothes aud black stiff billycock hat : the other 23 or 24 years of age, about 5 feet 7 iuclies high, freckled face ; dressed in dirty trousers, dirty short slop open down front, baud round waist, old dark cap, and old stroug half boots with fronts cut. Information to be given to Superintendent Pidgeon, Bourn, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, June 17. Between 10 p. m the 13th, and 6 a. m. on the 14th instant, the dwelling- house of John Ellis, situate iu Price- street, Smethwiek, was entered through the cellar grating, which had been left unfastened, aud the following property stoleu therein : a blue pilot monkey Jacket, deeply braided ; a pair of man's blucher Boots, tipped at toe ; a violet- striped woollen Shirt, man's size, much faded ; a white flanuel under Shirt, man's size ; aud several smaller articles. Information to be given to Inspector Oldish, Police Office, Smethwick, or at any Police Station in the county of Stafford.— bow- street, June 17. Between 10 30 p. m. on the 14th and 7 a. m. on the 15th instant, the dwelling- house of William Cox, at Newington, was broken into, and stoleu therein : a silver Geneva Watch, siugle case, inside chain broken, aud about 30s. in silver and copper Money. Information to be given to Superintendent Mayne, Police Court, Sittingbourne, Kent. — Bow- street, June 17. During the night of the 8th instant, or the following morning, the shop of William Hewett, draper, High- street, Maidenhead, was broken and entered, and the followiug articles stolen therein : black Calf Gloves, coloured ditto, Fronts with Collars, black stiff Felt Hat, patent leather spring- side Boots, four white Shirts, one coloured ditto, a pair of Braces, and some Collars, all marked with a cross.; a black cloth Coat, double- breasted ; a grey cloth Coat ; tliree Waist- coats ; two pairs of fancy trousers ; Silk Scarviie ; five pairs, of woollen cord Trousers ; a felt Hat; and a white mackin- tosh Coat. Information to be given to Superintendent MacGraw, Borough Police, Maidenhead.— Bam- stJunt 12; HOKSE AJND CATTLE STJEAUAG. Supposed to have been stolen at Aylesbury,, on the 14th instant: a dark brown Mare, about 14J kiwis ' half- bred, 5 years old, black legs, a few white hairs on fore- head, the property of Mr. Lambourne, of Steeple Clavdou. Information to be g; ven at the Police Station, Aylesbury, Bucks.— bow- street, June 21. Stolen from a field at Moreby, East Riding of Yorkshire, on the night of the 16th iustant, the property of Mr. Jo' n Ryder, of Moreby, farmer : a bay blood Mare, aged, n-- rly 16 hands high, near hind fetlock white, white spot ou « - ch fetlock of the forefeet, several white spots where the sadoie rests, and a few white hairs on the top of neck, caused by the collar, square tail, and in good condition; a Bridle and Saddle were stoleu from the stable at the same time. A man of the following description, with the Mare in his possesion, passed through the Selby Toll bar, about 3 a. m. on the 17th instant, aud was traced towards Leeds, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, sallow complexion, and dark brown hair; dressed iu a brown plaid suit, with tight fitting trousers. Information to be given to Inspector Gibson, East Riding Constabulary, Escrick.— Bow- street, June 19. Stolen on the night of the 4th or morning of the 5th instant, from a field at Erdington Hall, near Birmingham : a dark brown Mare, from 15 to 16 hands high, blind with the near eye, and a little lump ou the off shoulder. Any person giving such information that will lead to the apprehension aud couviction of the offender or offenders shall receive reward. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Glossop, Birmingham.— bow-* trvet, June 14. Stolen daring the night of the 10th instant, a brown Gelding, about" 15 hands high, of the nag breed, a white star ou forehead, and a star ou the off hind leg, caused by a kick : also a black Welsh Pony, very fast, and little wliite on one hind fetlock. Information to be given to Superintendent Dance, Police Court, Toubridge, Kent.— Bow- street, J tin 14. Stolen on the night of the 6th instant, from a Meadow at Downham : a black Mare, nbout 15 hands high, aged, white star on forehead, blind with the off eye, and has a deep scar iu the off shoulder, having been wounded iu a collision with, the end of a shaft, long mane and tail, and in good condition. Information to be given to Inspector Hawtree, Rochford, or to Sergeant Aylett, Billericay, Essex.— Bow- street, June 12. Stolen on the 6th iustaut, from a stable in a brickfield at Water lane, Edmonton : a roan Mare, aged, 14 hands high, fore feet turn outwards ; was seen at Colney Hatch, going in the direction of Finchley iu a gipsy cart, teak built, ' William Stanley, Exeter", on the side, accompauied by a mau 26 years of age, ft feet 8 iuclies high, dark complexion, hair, and whiskers ; dressed in dark moleskin overcoat, woollea cord trousers, fitting tightly, wideawake hat, smart appear- auce, and statrd that be intended going to Ascot.— Metropo- litan Police, Y Division- June 12. LARCENY AJVD EMBEZZLEMENT, Description of THOMAS WELLER, who has absconds^ charged on warrant with stealing a carpenter's Stock, aid 36 Bits, the property of George Patching, from a work- shop at Brighton, where he worked ; he is about 17 years of age, about 5 feet 3 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, rather slight made, we< « rs his hat ou the back of his head; he is au appreutice to a carpenter, and will very probably enlist for a soldier Information to be given to Chief Constable White, Brighton, Sussex.— bow- street, June 21. Description of SEELS STEELE HILL, usually called ARTHUR HILL, charged with fraudulently embezzling the sum of j£ ll) 8s., the property of his master Thomas Keyworth, ou the 15tb December last: he was a traveller in the wiue aud spirit trade, 32 ) ears of age, 5 feet 6 i- iches high, stout, round face, light complexion, rather small sandy whiskers, grey eyes, good looking ; dressed usually iu a grey suit, with, white hat; well kuowu at Sheffield, Scarborough, aud Bostoru Information to begiveu to Chief Constable Cook, Hull, York, by whom all reasonable expenses will be paid.— Bow- street^ June 19. Stolen from a dwelling- house in Wakefield, on the I5tk instant : a black cloth Coat, two pockets outside with lids, one inside left breast pocket; a pair of light snuff- coloured Trousers, with small while stripes and brown stripe down sides ; a pair of elastic- side Boots ; a Muffler; aud a red silk Handkerchief, with white spots. By CHARLES SMITH, alias JOHN WILLIAMS, a butcher, 22 years of age, 5 feet inch high, fresh complexion, brown eyes, dark brown hair, small moustache, well made, scars on body, and was boru at Spalding, Lincolnshire ; dressed iu dark coarse tweed coat, dark grey trousers, dark cap, and stolen boots. Information, to be given to Chief Constable Chipstead, Borough Police, Wakefield, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Boic- street. June 19. Stoleu from a dwelling- house in Wakefield, on the 16th instant : a double- cased silver verge Watch, capped, has ' J. Pearson ' engraved on outside case, aud ' Sergt. James Pearson, 6th West York Militia, Halifax,' on iuside case; a silver Guard ; a. pair of grey Socks ; and £ 1 17s. Descripton of FREDERICK ROUND, late clerk to the Britannia Mills Flour and Bread Company, Birmingham, Limited, who is charged with embezzling £& 2 6 » . 9d. : he is about 3il years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 luches high, fair com- plexion, light thin hai', bald on top of head, light brown • whiskers and moustache, grey eyes, large features, rather large head, medium build, and stoops a little when walkiug; respectably dressed. .£ 10 reward will be oaid ou his appre- hension. Stolen on the 7th instant, from No. 6, Castle- street, Long- acre: a huge silver verge Watch, No. 51835, maker Charles Wen, Chichester, a silver Guard, with a Sixpence, two Kiys, and Seal attached. By a man, who stated lie came from Hutcham, and was a jeweller, 25 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, fair complexion, carroty hair and whiskers ( small); dressed in light coat and trousers, stripe at sides, white vest, blue aud white necktie, side- spriug boots, black felt hat. - Metropolitan Police, E Division, June 17. Absconded on the 3rd instant, embezzling .£ 50, the mouies of his master William Warrington Palmer: a collector, 25 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion aud hair, small thick whiskers, alight moustache, aud small impel iul ; i dressed in a dark mixture suit, a" d high bhuk hat ; address! Cholmley- villas, Long Ditton, Surrey.— Metropolitan Police; E Division, June 17. Stolen at New Ferry, on the 9th instant : a gold chronometer repeatiug lever Watch, gold dial, steel hands, engine- turned case, a little worn, makers Litherland, Davies, aud Company, Liverpool, No. 1068, had attached a gold albert Guard, small strong links, cable pattern; a gold Auieric; ui Dollar; a gold chased Locket, form of a heart; a gold Seal, with light yellow stone, engraved a corouet aud dragou. Supposed by JAMES WHITEHEAD, a labourer, about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 9 iuches high, fresh com- plexion, led hair,, cut short, sandy moustache and imperial, round shouldered, and has beeu several years iu the Army ; dressed in a ribbed blue cloth shooting coat, dark plaid vest aud trousers, with greqn stripe, aud black soft felt hat; was formerly employed at the lead works, Chester. £ a reward will be paid to auy person who will give such information as will lead to his conviction and recovery of the property, or iu proportion thereto, ou application to Superintendent Eger- ton, County Police Office, Abbey- street, Birkenhead, Cheshire. — Bow- street, June 14. Absconded from Banbury, on the 8th instant, a man who gave the name of JOHN SMITH, charged with stealing a Coat and Waistcoat, since recovered : he is a tramping tailor, about 5 feet 1 or 2 iuches high, slig'it make, aud red nose, from drinking ; dressed iu dark clothes, high hat ; lie lodges at lnw beer- houses, aud calls himself the ' LITTLE WONDER.: Information to be given to Superintendent Whadcoat, CouDty Police Station, Banbury, OXOD, who holds, a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 14. Description of WILLIAM GEORGE ROBINSON, a commercial traveller, charged with embezzling several sums of Money : about 36 years of age, 5 feet 6 iuches high, fresh complexiim, slightly marked with the small- pox, dark brown hair, slightly bald, full face, long sandy whiskers and moustache, full month, is a very quick talker, forward in conversation, aud a good comic singer ; he has beeu a traveller for the last ten years in the hardware trade, in the counties of Lancaster, Nottingham, Salop, Stafford, aud Cheshire. Among the mouies received by him were a £- 20 Bank of England Note, issued at Manchester, January 7th, 1871, No. w I 14 84906, aud a i,' l0 ditto, issued at Manchester, January 31st, 1871, No. U | 25 80119, payment of which has been stopped. Information to be given to Chief Constable Segrave, Town Hall, Wolverhampton, who holds a warrant for his apprehension, and by whom £ 5 reward will be paid for the same.— Bcro- street, June 14. Absconded on the 29th ultimo, from No. 23, Rose- street, Long Acre, stealing £' i 0s. 5d., the money of his master : by a man 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 iuches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, grey eyes ; dressed iu light dirty suit, aud black billycock hat. Supposed to be in the viciuity of Union- street, Borough.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, June 12. Stolen during the night of the 9th instant, from the dwelling- house of Mrs. Hufton, New Clee : 8 woollen Shirts— one violet colour, the others violet and yellow check. 1 grey winsey Shirt. 3 blue pilot cloth Coats, double breasted, and horn buttons. 2 pairs of pilot cloth Trousers. 2 Vests do. | 3 blue Guernseys— one boy's size. 1 Scotch Cap. 1 cheesecutter Cap. 2 white Mufflers. 1 pair of elastic- side Boots. 1 scarlet and white Handkerchief. And a seaman's shifting Bag. By JOHN WILSON, a lodger, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark hair, parted dowu the middle, whiskers shaved off, full face, large grey eyes, much blood- shot. Supposed to be weariug part of the stolen property, as he left his old clothes behind. Stated he was a native of Lincoln, and lately employed upon a steam- boat at Hull ; had iu his possession a fireman's discharge from a Hull vessel, in the name of ' John Wilson.' £ 1 reward will be paid for his apprehension. Information to be given to Inspector Gregg, County Police Station, Grimsby, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, June 12. Absconded from Leeds, charged ou a warrant with em- bezzlement : WILLIAM S. GARROW, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, light brown hair, slight light brown whiskers, no moustache, rather fresh looking, stoops when walkiug, speaks a broard Scotch accent; dressed iu dark mix- ture shooting coat, tweed trousers and vest, wears a silk hat. Has lived at the fallowing places : 105 Lily- place, Shields- road, Glasgow ; 2, Crown- terrace, aud 32 Castle- street, Dundee ; his wife has ' ived with him at the two first places. He is known to the following persons : Mr. Wm. Lindsey, Whole- sale Stationer, Aberdeen ; Mr. A. Best, Union- street, Aber- deen ; Mr. Charles Walker, Commission Agent, Aberdeen ; Mr. J. Cowper, - 14, Bow Accord- street, Aberdeen ; Mr. George Mills. Milton Chemical Company, Glasgow ; Messrs. Harrison and Griffiths, Great Eastern- rd., Glasgow ; Mr. E. Mc. Cullum, 9, Morrison- street, Glasgow. His last, telegram was sent from the Victoria Station, of the London Brighton aud South Coast Railway, on the 1st instant, and his last letter was from London, S. W. on the 3rd instant. Information to be given to Superintendent Hunt, Detective Office, Town Hall, Leeds. — Bow- street, June 12. FELONIES. ( Not otherwise described). Early ou the morning of the 7th instant a servant girl, named HARRIET TOMKINS, absconded from the house of her employer, Mr. Middleton, of Woodstock- road, Moseley, taking with her his daughter, a little girl just 11 years of age. The girl, accompanied by the child, was seen leaviug Moseley at an early hour ou the morning, and carrying a parcel of wearing apparel which she had stolen from her master. They took with them a quantity of clothes and about 3t,) s. iu money, the children's money- box having been broken- open, either by Tomkins, or at her instigation. From a paper left in the house, Mr. Middleton thinks it possible that they have gone, to Wol- verhampton ; but at the same time, as the ground of belief is so uncertaiu, it is just as probable that the runaway and l\ er companion are still in Birmingham. Harriet Tonikins is about 16 years of age, rather tall, has light hair and com- plexion, slender make, tapwn birth- mark ou the back of her neck ; was we'arirg either a black of plaid dress, of blue, black, aud red colour, black hat trimmed with black, a black cloth jacket, or black cloth waterproof cloak, aud lace- up boots.
