Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the Bame, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to Ma. O. %* Whenever it is desired that any person Bhould be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information Bhould be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requeBted that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well aB those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Fall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Found on the 25th ultimo in a ditch by the side of a footpath leading from the Shirley- road to Hill- lane, in the parish of Millbrook, the dead body of a newly- born male Child wrapped iu the ' Hamilton Advertiser.' At an inquest held on the 28th ultimo a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' was returned against some person or persons unknown. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Stannard, Hants Constabulary, Bitterne, or to Sergeant Painter, Police Station, Shirley, near Southampton.— Bow- street, June 3. Found on the 22ud instant, in a stream at Bournemouth, the dead body of a Female Child, supposed about three weeks old ; dressed in a calico shift, short sleeve nightgown, band and whittle, a flannel whittle, all new, and wrapped up iu au old black shawl. At an inquest held on the 23rd instant, a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' was returned against some person or persons unknown. From the medical examination it appears the child had been in the water about 24 hours. In- formation to be given to Superintendent White, Hants Con- stabulary, Ringwood, or to Sergeant Materman, Police Station, Bournemouth, where the above clothing can be seen. — Bonn- street, May 29. The dead body of a newly born Male Child, wrapped in a piece of white window blind, a part of an old brown towel and a piece of brown striped stuff", part of an old dress, was found in the canal near Divizes, on the morning of the 27th instant, and at the coroners inquest held on the body the same dap, the Medical evidence went to show that the Child was born alive but had been in the water from 24 to 48 hours. DORRETT, clerk, late of 23, Napier- street, New Cross, wanted for forgery : 28 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, slender build, long thin pale face, fair hair and moustache, no whiskers, walks quickly, with au appearance of stiffness in the legs, of respectable appearance, aud is fond of playing at billiards ; dressed in light trousers, dark overcoat, aud black hat. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police, Detective Department, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- street, June 7. Maryport, has ' John Forster,' engraved on inside case. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Spencer, Cockermouth, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumber- land.— Bow- street, June 5. Stolen from the person in Oswestry, Smithfield, on the 29th instant: a silver open- face English lever Watch, No. 1681. Information to be given to Superintendent Gough, Oswestry, Salop.— Bow- street, May 31. Stolen from the person of a female, about 6 a. m. on the 24th instant, at the Wind Mill feasts, in the township of Wigginton ; a washleather Purse, containing a half Sovereign, and about £\ in Silver, by a man, 25 years of age, 5 ft. 6 ins. high, fresh complexion, sunburnt, long features, large nose, one eye very much bloodshot, light brown hair, small tuft of ginger coloured hair on end of chin; dressed in old dark Drown coat and trousers, the latter worn out at bottoms, Scotch cap with peak, old lace- up boots, cut in the fronts to ease the feet, walks lame, and with a shuffling gait; he is likely to be found at some feast or fair, assisting with shooting galleries, & c. Information to be given to Superintendent Hunter, North Riding Constabulary Office, Heworth, Yorks.— Bcro- street, May 29. Stolen from the person on Harpendon Race Course, on the 24th instant, the following watches, viz.: A Gold Lever, Liverpool make, much worn, has some small indentations on outer case. £ 5 reward is offered by the owner for its recovery, and conviction of the offender or offenders. A Silver Watch, nearly new. A Gold Watch, marked ' W. S.' on back, much worn, makers name 1 Walton, Ludgate- hill, London.' Also two field Glasses of middle size. Stoleu from the person on the 3rd instant, a silver lever hunting Watch, with brass pointers ; a gold albert Guard, 15 inches long attached ; a gold Key, with three stones, green, white, and dark. Stolen from the person in Oldham, ou the 4111 instant: a silver lever Watch, maker Hemmingway, Manchester, No. 1300; three ditto, one with gold dial, Noa. 33208, 28159, and 1210 ; one ditto, malter J. H. Hayes, Oldham, No. 27058; one ditto, silver dial, with gold figures, No. 702:: ); a Boston lever Watch, No. 25508 ; two silver Geneva Watches, one small size, Nos. 40921 and 6234 ; a ditto, cream- coloured dial, No. 15522 ; a ditto, with a dent ou the edge of inner case ; a silver verge Watch ; and a silver hunting Watch, American make. Stolen on the 1st instant, from the person of John Forster, engineman, Wyndham- row, on the Highway, near Maryport : a patent lever silver Watch, No. 928"), maker John Walker, BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between 10 p. m. 4th and 5 a. m. on the 5th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Holloway, of Bampton, Oxon, was broken and entered, aDd stolen therein : about £ 1 in Silver aud Copper; a silver Medal; a chamois leather Bag, con- tainiug a spade Guinea, a 5- franc Piece, a crooked Half- sovereign, two Spanish Dollars, a number of crooked Six- pences, and other Coins, of various value ; a Is. 6d. silver Token, of the reign of George III; and a silver Bank of England Token, value 5s. Information to be given to Superintendent Pope, Police Station, Witney, Oxon.— Bow- street, June 7. Between 9' 30 a. m. and 7 p. m. on the 5th instant, the dwelling- house of EDWARD JONES, at Pentreclawdd, near Oswestry, was broken into and stolen therein : a large old fashioned silver verge Watch, No. 3226, the pendent has been broken and repaired, white dial, large black figures, small dent on back of outside case, a ticket inside the case— Lashmore, watchmaker, Oswestry, a black silk Guard and round steel Chain with two common Keys and a Seal attached ; a black cloth Vest, single- breasted, watch pocket in left side, black cloth buttons, yellow lining with black back, much worn; and £ 3 17s. in Gold and Silver. Information to be given to Superintendent Gough, Oswestry, Salop.— Bow- street, June 7. Between 11 a. m. and 9 p. m. on the 2nd instant, the dwelling house of the Rev. J. Sibree, was broken into and stolen therein : nine silver Spoons, four Table, three Tea, two Salt, and a pair of Sugar Tongs, all marked ' J. C. S.'; seven plated Spoons, four Dessert, and three Tea ; four plated Forks, two large and two small ; two silver Pencil Cases ; a Gold Ring, chased, set with pearls; a small square gold Brooch, chased, transparent stone, with imitation of fuschia raised in middle ; a small gold Pencil- case, with blue turquoise and pendants ; a large gold Seal, with yellow stones ; aud 5d. in Money. Information to be given to Superintendent Austin, Nuneaton, or to Inspector Olliver, Longford, Warwickshire. — Bow- street, June 5. During the night of the 3rd instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. R. Turner, Worthing, was broken and entered, and an open- faced silver lever Watch, maker ' John Cragg, Lon- don, No. 36695,' stolen therein. Information to be given to Superintendent Henderson, West Sussex Constabulary, Worthing.— Bow- street, June 5. During the nights of the 1st and 2nd instant, two dwelling - houses in the borough of Rochdale, were burglariously entered, and the following property stolen therein : a small gold Locket, with blue enamel on one side ; a gold lever Watch, No. 24740 or 68079; a small silver Geneva Watch, No. 45609 ; a jet Watch Guard; two links of coral Beads; two Hair Bracelets, light colour, with gilt snap; four silver Tea Spoons, very much worn; a pair of gold Ear- drops, bell pattern, a black cloth shooting Coat, sleeves lined with pink twill. Information to be given to Chief Constable Stevens, Town Hall, Rochdale.— Bow- street, June 5. Between 8 p. m. 31st ultimo and 8 a. m. on the 1st instant, the co- operative stores at Morley, were broken into, and the following property stolen therein : a wash- leather Bag, con- taining three i) 5 Notes, Nos. not known ; £ 104 18s. 3d. in Gold, Silver, and Copper; four Indian silk Pocket- handker- chiefs, white ground, coloured border, and leaf pattern; and three women's fancy Skirts, various colours. £ 20 reward will be paid on conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Airton, West Riding Police Office, Dewsbury.— Bow- street, June 3. Between 12 p. m. on the 25th and 6 a. m. on the 26th ult., the dwelling- house of Ellis Holland, Albert- street, Crewe, was broken and entered, and the following articles stolen therein: a silver lever stop Watch, chronometer balance, cream- coloured face, maker ' Royle and Rawson, Wigan'; a black cloth small twilled Coat, bound with silk Laid, imita- tion cuff's; a pair of men's elastic- side Boots, one without straps ; a white cotton Pocket Handkerchief ; and a white woollen Muffler, very dirty. By a youth ( who lodged there and left some time during that night), about 19 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, and sallow complexion ; dressed in an old black cloth coat and vest ( open breast and w ithout collar) ; stated he came from Manchester. Information to be given to Superintendent Laxton, Nantwich, or to Inspector Wood, Crewe, Cheshire.— Bow- street, June 3. The property stolen and described in the Police Gazette of the 29th instant, has been recovered, and a tramp described below, is in custody charged with three several acts of house- breaking and theft in Roxburghshire: PATRICK CRAIGIN, 25 years of age, 5 feet 5J inches high, brown hair, cut short, fair whiskers and moustache, recently shaved, scar of bum on left eyebrow, scar of recent wound above right eye, three small scars on back of neck, first joint of left middle finger injured and contracted, ' D.' on left side, says he was a soldier in the 18th Regiment, and recently worked iu Leslie's ship- building yard, Jarrow, and lodged with Mrs. Fallon, Tog- bank, near Jarrow, and is a native of Slighar, county Wex- ford, Ireland ; dressed in cloth cap, with peak, grey tweed coat and vest, black cotton velvet vest under, moleskin trousers, and elastic- side boots. Information to be given to Chief Constable Boultbee, Constabulary Office, Jedburgh.— Bow- street, May 31. Stolen from William Pink, at Ramsdean, between 5 a. m. and 5 p. m., on the 28th instant, by means of housebreaking: a pair of dark cloth Trousers, black stripe down the side, with flaps; a pair of brown cloth Trousers, with flaps ; a black cloth Coat, black cloth buttons and black lining ; a red silk Hankerchief ; a cotton Handkerchief; a black hard felt Hat, red lining ; and a pair of lace- up Boots, with tips and nails ( round heads), and a few of a larger sort recently put in. Supposed by tramps. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Bennett, Hants Constabulary, Petersfield. — Bow- street, May 31. During the night of the 26th instant, the dwelling house of John Relsall, farmer, of Penley, Flintshire, was broken and entered, and one Sovereign stoleu therein : supposed by a man about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, stout built, brown hair, sandy whiskers, weak eyes ; dressed in dark clothes, and old black low- crowned hat, which he wears low over his eyes. He is supposed to have been previously convicted of felony, at Worcester, Wolverhampton, & c. Information to be given to Superintendent Bolton, Hanmer, Flintshire.— Bow- street, May 29. Between 9 a. ir. and 6 p. m. on the 27th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. James Sproston, of Hatherton, near Nantwich, was broken into during the absence of the family, and the following property stolen therein : 1 new black cloth Coat, bound with braid, one breast pocket, and two pockets behind in skirts. 1 dark plaid pattern douole- breasted Vest, with two bright buttons inside to keep it in place when on. 1 pair of greenish cloth Trousers, with brown stripe down the sides, and slight burn mark on left thigh. 1 calico check Shirt. 2 silver Pencil Cases, one with pen and pencil at one end, and stamp at the other; the other has a pencil at one end, and at the other end a small penknife screwed therein, with pearl handle. 1 small green- coloured Box, containing two small Boxes with two Brooches ( one black, the other light stone). Information to be given to Superintendent Laxton, County Police, Nantwich, Cheshire.— Bow- street, May 29. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen during the night of the 2nd instant, from a field at Birkby, the property of Joseph Donald, farmer, Birkby, near Maryport: a grey Mare, 5 years old, about 15 hands high, white mane and tail, the face of a lighter colour than the body, and has a lump on the near shoulder. Information to be given to Superintendent Spencer, Cockermouth, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle. — Bow- st., June 7. Stolen from a field in the parish of St Mary Magdalen, Hastings, between the 31st ultimo and the 3rd instant : a Southdown Sheep, marked ' P.' Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Glenister, Hastings, or at the Police Office, St. Leonards- on- Sea.— Bow- street, June 7. Stolen on the night of the 22nd ultimo, from a field in the occupation of Mr. Robert Archer, of Hoon Hay, near Tutbury, four ewe Hogs. A reward of £ 5 will be paid by the Tutbury Association for the Prosecution of Felons, and a further reward of £ b from the said Mr. Robert Archer, to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders. Imformation to be given to Superintendent Whieldon, Ashbourne, Derbyshire. — Bow- street, June 5. Stolen from a meadow in the parish of Kingsnorth, VOLLOE GAZETTE. June 7 Kent, between 9 a. m. the 29th and 12 a. m. the 30th ultimo : nineteen Tegs, having a hole in off ear and 1 E. G. m pitch on off side. Information to be given to Superintendent Noakes, Police Station, Ashford, Kent.— Bow- street, June 3. Stolen on or about the 21st ultimo, from off Cwmllydd Hill, in the parish of Llaullugan : eight crossbred yearling Sheep between Shropshire Down aud the Welsh Hill, swallow tail right ear, triangular punch hole left ear, ' B.' on near side, aud raddled down the back. £ 2 reward will be given for' any information that may lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Stolen from a field at Dyffrynsaith, Penbryn, during the night of the 24th instant, the property of David Evans, farmer : a bay Mare, 3 years old, about 14 hands high, loug mane aud tail, has a lump under the belly, hind feet recently shod, aud in rather fair condition. Information to be given to Superintendent Lloyd, Llandyssul, Cardiganshire.— Bow- street, May 31. During the night of the 22nd instant, a Sheep was slaughtered iu a meadow, at Ightham, and the hind quarters stolen therein, the property of Stephen Tomkin. Information to be given to Superintendent Hulse, Police Court, West Mailing, Kent.— Bow- street, May 31. Stolen from a field at Minster Lovel during the niriit of the 28th instant, a Lamb of the long wool breed, th'e pro- perty of Mr. John Gillett, of Minster Lovell. Information to be given to Superintendent Cope, Police Station, Witney, Oxon.— Bow- street, May 31. Stolen on the 20tli instant, from a field at Pembury, Kent: a light- coloured mare Donkey, lame in off . shoulder, and has been clipped. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Dance, Police Court, Tonbridge, Kent.— Bow- street, May 29. Stolen from a field near the railway- station-, Chipping Ongar, on the afternoon of the 19th instant : an aged bay mare Pony, 13 hands high, black legs, one white hoof, long tail, and white star on forehead. The Association for the prosecution of felons offers illO reward on conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Simpson, Epping, or to Inspector Robinson, Police Station, Chipping Ongar, Essex.— Bm- street, May 29. LARCEKY AIB EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Madeley, 6n the morning of the 29th ultimo, the property of Mr. John Hughes : a white calico Shirt, new ; a pair of men's grey Worsted Stockings ; a pair of women's ditto ; a silk Neckerchief, red ground and white flowers, nearly new; and a blue cottou Umbrella, with dark bone handle. By a man, 21 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair complexion, light saudy hair, aud stoutly built; dressed in white slop, black cloth vest, white moleskin trousers, very dirty, black billycock hat, red cotton neckerchief, and clogs ; he is a labourer, and will probably seek employment on some railway. He is accom- panied by a young woman, 17 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 31 ins. high, dark complexion, dark brown hair and eyes, and slender build ; dressed in blue stuff dress, and black hat, with red flowers. Information to be given to Sergeant Stevenson, Madeley, Staffordshire, or to any Police Officer iu the county. — Bow- streetf June 7- Description of JOHN HAGAN, late a bailiff of the Birmingham County Court, who is charged with embezzling various sums of money : is 34 years of rt'ge 5 feet 7 inches high, fair short hair, fair complexion, long thick neck, has a peculiarity about the eyes, a cut a'cross the bridge of nose, having tbe appearance of a pugulist; dressed in blue pilot monkey jacket, light cord trousers, and lace- up boots; a native of Dublin. £ 2 reward will be given on his apprehension. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Glossop, Police Station, Birmingham, who holds a warrant.— Bow- street, June 7. Absconded on the 4th instant, charged on a warrant with embezzling .£ 18 10s. 3d. : HARRY HANCOCK, a druggist's apprentice, of Cleethorpes- road Great Grimsby, 17 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, rather stout, brown hair, cut short, freckled face, hands very yellow inside from a dye ; dressed in dark coat, light trousers and vest, stiff felt hit, with round crown, a native of Sheffield, and speaks that dialect ; it is supposed that he will endeavour to leave the country from some seaport. £ 2 reward will be given for his apprehension. Information to be giveu to Chief Superinten- dent Campbell, Town Hall, Grimsby, Liucolnshire. — Bpw- st., June 7. Stolen on the 30tli ultimo ; a silver lever Watch, open face, jewelled in two holes, and capped, No. 0070, had a silver albert Chain attached. By RALPH HEFFERNAN, a native of Limerick, Ireland, a journeyman watchmaker, about 20_ years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, very slight whiskers and moustache ; dressed to a dark cloth suit, neavly new, aud black billycock hit. Description of BENJAMIN FRAMPTON, late a bailiff of the Birmingham County Court, who is charged with embezzling various MUDS of Money : is about 50 years of age', 5 feet 9 inches high, dark complexion, bushy whiskers turn- ing grey, geuerally wears a black shooting'jacket with large pockets inside, cord trousers, and„ blucher boots; he is a gardender. It is supposed that he has gone to Cheltenham. £ 2 reward will be paid on his apprehension. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Glossop, Birmingham, Warwickshire.— Bow street, June 7. Description of BENJAMIN TUTT, a journeyman baker, charged on a warrant with embezzling the sum o'f £ 1 13s. 9d., the monies of George Thomas, his master, alt Folkington, on the 3rd ultimo : he is 19 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fair complexion, grey eyes, pimple on left side of nose, dark brown hair, rather stout make, and a native of Polegate, Hailskam ; dressed, when last seen, in a dark tweed coat and vest, cord trousers, and black rouQd felt hat. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, or to Superintendent Waghorn, Hailsham, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— BoW- street, JUhe 5. Stolen from 8, Hope- street, Reading, on the 22nd insitao, six Chemises, three night Dresses, three white Bodices, a lady's black cloth Jacket, a short black cloth Jacket, a light Jacket, trimmed with violet, a Clothes Brush, two calico Sheets, and other articles, some of which have been found pledged : By ft, man and woman who were lodging in the house. The man about 22 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fresh complexion, no whiskers, dark hair, very open nostrils ; dressed as a navvy in dark pilot jacket, with patch on left Bhoulder, aud fustian trousers : the woman is about 20 years of age, middle height, freckled face, of very brazen appearance ; dressed in dark liudsoy dress, trimmed with green, short black jacket, and black bonnet trimmed with blue. Information to be given to Superintendant Purchase, Borough Police Office, Reading. — Bow- street, June 5. Stolen from 4, Latimore- street, Southampton, on the 27th ultimo : £ 6 iu Gold ; a silver Geneva Wateh ; and a gold guard Chain attached. By a man who took lodgings there, about 52 years qf age, 5 feet 7 inches high, grey whiskers, partially bald- headed, fresh complexion; dressed in dark cloth coat, light trousers, cloth cap with freuch peak, has lost a piece off one finger of left hand. Information to be given to Head Constable Breary, Southampton.— Bow- street, June 3. Further description of CHARLES EAGLETON, junior, charged with stealing three trusses of Cloth, the property of the Midland Railway Company, at Leeds, on the 11th Nov. last : a warrant, has been issued for his apprehension : he is 28 years of age, about 5 feet 9 iuches high, fresh- coloured full face, high cheekbones, the pbihts of which are particularly red or flushed, dark brown hair and curly whiskers, rather stout build, and generally dresses well ; has been in railway service, kept a greengrocer's shop at Hull, dealing in fish, rabbits, poultry, & c., is well known at Norwich, Dereham, Scarborough, Beverley, Burlington, Plymouth, and various other places in Devonshire, and has several aliases, CAPTAIN MCCARTHY, BUTOLPH, ROMSEY, & c. £ 10 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as will lead to his apprehension. Information to be given to Superintendent Farmer, Midland Railway, Derby.— Bow- street, June 3. Description of JOHN WHALLY who absconded on the 25th ultimo from Blackburn, charged on warrant with steal- ing one Steam Engine, one Steam Boiler, and a quantity of Shafting aud Piping.
