The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. %* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offcnce charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Found on the 22nd instant, in a stream at Bournemouth, the dead body of a Female Child, supposed about three weeks old; dressed in a calico shift, short sleeve nightgown, band and whittle, a flannel whittle, all new, and wrapped up in an old black shawl. At an inquest held on the 23rd instant, a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' was returned against some person or persons unknown. From the medical examination it appears the child had been in the water about 24 hours. In- formation to be given to Superintendent White, Hants Con- stabulary, Ringwood, or to Sergeant Materman, Police Station, Bournemouth, where the above clothing can be seen. — Bow- street, May 29. The dead body of a newly born Male Child, - wrapped in a piece of white window bliud, a part of an old brown towel and a piece of brown striped stuff, part of an old dress, was found in the canal near Divizes, on the morning of the 27th instant, and at the coroners inquest held on the body the same dap, the Medical evidence went to show that the Child was born alive but had been in the water from 24 to 48 hours. Stolen from the person in Oswestry, Smithfield, on the 29th instant : a silver open- face English lever Watch, No. 1681. Information to be given to Superintendent Gough, Oswestry, Salop.— Bow- street, May 31. Stolen from the person of a female, about 6 a. m. on the 24th instant, at the Wind Mill feasts, in the township of Wigginton : a washleather Purse, containing a half Sovereign, and about £ 1 in Silver, by a man, 25 years of age, 5 ft. 6 ins. high, fresh complexion, sunburnt, long features, large nose, one eye very much bloodshot, light brown hair, small tuft of oinger coloured hair on end of chin; dressed in old dark brown coat and trousers, the latter worn out at bottoms, Scotch cap with peak, old lace- up boots, cut in the fronts to ease the feet, walks lame, and with a shuttling gait ; he is likely to be found at some feast or fair, assisting with shooting galleries, & c. Information to be given to Superintendent Hunter, North Riding Constabulary Oflice, Heworth, Yorks.— B< ro- street, May 29. Stolen from the person on Harpendon Race Course, on the 24th instant, the following watches, viz.: A Gold Lever, Liverpool make, much worn, has some small indentations on outer case. £ 5 reward is offered by the owner for its recovery, and conviction of the offender or offenders. A Silver Watch, nearly new. A Gold Watch, marked ' W. S.' on back, much worn, makers name ' Walton, Ludgate- hill, London.' Also two field Glasses of middle size. Information to be given to Inspector Chapman, Hatfield, or to Cheif Constable Robertson, Herts.— Bow- street, 29. Stolen from the person on New Brighton Sands, about 6 p. m. on the 20th instant, a silver Geneva. Watch, No. 22946, engine- turned, white dial, and black hands. Information to be given at Superintendent Eggerton, County Police, Birken- head, Cheshire.— Bole- street, May 27. Stolen from the person of Edward West, on the 20lh ins. whilst on the Scarbro' Race Course : a silver patent lever Watch, No. 1G49. Information to be given to Supeiinteddent Jonas, Pickering, or to Inspector Ryder, North riding Con- stabulary, Falsgrave, Scarbro' Yorks.— Bow- street, May 27. Stolen from the person at Wye races, on the 22rid instant, a gold Watch, single case, white dial, with railway ond Town time on it, stop movements, foreign make. Information to be given to Superintendent Noakes, Kent Constabulary, Ashford, Kent.— Bow- street, May 24. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. The property stolen and described in the Police Gazette of the 29th instant, has been recovered, and a tramp described below, is in custody charged with three several acts of house- breaking and theft in Roxburghshire: PATRICK CRAIGIN, 25 years of age, 5 feet 5| inches high, brown hair, cut short, fair whiskers and moustache, recently shaved, scar of burn on left eyebrow, scar of recent wound above right eye, three small scars on back of neck, first joint of left middle finger injured and contracted, ' D.' on left side, says he was a soldier in the 18th Regiment, and recently worked in Leslie's ship- building yard, Jarrow, and lodged with Mrs. Fallon, Tog- bank, near Jarrow, and is a native of Slighar, county Wex- ford, Ireland ; dressed in cloth cap, with peak, grey tweed coat and vest, black cotton velvet vest under, moleskin trousers, and elastic- side boots. Information to be given to Chief Constable Boultbee, Constabulary Office, Jedburgh.— Bow- street, May 31. Stolen from William Pink, at Ramsdean, between 5 a. m. and 5 p. m., on the 28th instant, by means of housebreaking : a pair of dark cloth Trousers, black stripe down the side, with flaps ; a pair of brown cloth Trousers, with flaps ; a black cloth Coat, black cloth buttons and black lining ; a red silk Hankerchief; a cotton Handkerchief; a black hard felt Hat, red lining ; and a pair of lace- up Boots, with tips and nails ( round heads), and a few of a larger sort recently put in. Supposed by tramps. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Bennett, Hants Constabulary, Petersfield. — Bow- street, May 31. During the night of the 26th instant, the dwelling house of John Relsall, farmer, of Penley, Flintshire, was broken and entered, and one Sovereign stolen therein : supposed by a man about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, stout built, brown hair, sandy whiskers, weak eyes ; dressed in dark clothes, and old black low- crowned hat, which he wears low over his eyes. He is supposed to have been previously convicted of felony, at Worcester, Wolverhampton, & c. Information to be given to Superintendent Bolton, Hanmer, Flintshire.— Bow- street, May 29. Between 9 a. nr. and 6 p. m. on the 27th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. James Sproston, of Hatherton, near Nantwich, was broken into during the absence of the family, and the following property stolen therein : 1 new black cloth Coat, bound with braid, one breast pocket, and two pockets behind in skirts. 1 dark plaid pattern douule- breasted Vest, with two bright buttons inside to keep it in place when on. 1 pair of greenish cloth Trousers, with brown stripe down the sides, and slight burn mark on left thigh. 1 calico check Shirt. 2 silver Pencil Cases, one with pen and pencil at one end, and stamp at the other; the other has a pencil at one end, and at the other end a small penknife screwed therein, with pearl handle. 1 small green- coloured Box, containing two small Boxes with two Brooches ( one black, the other light stone). Information to be given to Superintendent Laxton, County Police, Nantwich, Cheshire.— Bow- street, May 29. On the night of the 24th instant the Independent Chapel, at Upminster, was broken into and the following property stolen therefrom, viz. : one red Cloth with yellow border, three yards long and two in width; also about £ 1 10s. in Money. Information to be given at the Constabulary Office, Brentwood, Essex.— Bow- street, May 27. mare Pony, 13* hands high, black legs, one white hoof, long tail, and white star on forehead. The Association for the prosecution of felons offers .£ 10 reward on conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Simpson, Epping, or to Inspector Robinson, Police Station, Chipping Ongar, Essex.— Bow- strut, Ma / 29. Stolen on the 23rd instant, from Melford Fair, in the county of Suffolk : a dark bay gelding Pony, aged, between 13 and 14 hands high, both knees broken, and has the spring halt in the off hind leg. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Schofield, Boxford, or to Inspector Keeble, Police Station, Melford, Suffolk.— Bow- street, May 27. Stolen from the road- side at Thornborough, during the night of the 22nd instant: a black half- bred Mare, aged, in fair condition, 16£ hands high, the hair rubbed on ' the shoulder, from the collar, and small white saddle mark on the back, stands over a little on the near fore leg, has two small knots inside the leg, below the knee. Information to be given to Inspector Andrews, Maidsmoreton, Buckingham. Bow- street, May 27. Description of a gipsy who is charged with stealing a Donkey ( recovered) at Seacombe on the 24th instant: about 50 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, grey hair, and whiskers shaved off the chin ; dressed in imitation sealskin cap, turned down all round, dark corded trousers, and lace- up boots ; had with him a brown horse, about lfrj hands high, and is sup- posed to be travelling with a van " hawking baskets. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Egerton, County Police, Birkenhead, Cheshire.— Bow- street, May 27. Stolen from a field at Wroughton, near Swindon, on the 17th instant, the property of Mr. Henry Ellison : a bay mare Pony, 6 years old, about 12 hands high, marked with the letter ' O.' on left shoulder and ' V.' on right. Information to be given to Superintendent North, Swindon, Wiltshire. j Bow- street, May 27. Stolen during the night of the 23rd instant, from a cow- house, Saddleworth, a red and white, or roaned milk Cow 4 years old, has had two calves, and in good condition, short horns turning outwards : suspicion is attached to a man, of the following description, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 ins. high, rather light complexion, no whiskers, large mouth which he twists to one side when talking, shows his teeth very much which are large ones, and carried an ash plant in his " hands, had the appearance of a cattle drover ; dressed in dark cloth coat, and soft billy cock hat. Information to be given to I Superintendent Ireland, West Riding Constabulary, or to Chief Constable Neill, Wakefield.— Bow- street, May 27. Stolen on the 16th instant, from a field at Upton Hall I Farm, near Macclesfield, Cheshire, a light roan - coloured Heifer, about 15 months old, the property of Samuel Ridgway l a fai mer. Imformation to be given to Superintendent Williamson, County Police Office, Macclesfield, Cheshire. — Bow- street, May 24. The Horse advertised in the Police Gazette as stolen on the 17th instant from Ippollits, near Stevenage, was found at Wandsworth Common, Surrey. A man of the following description, not in custody, is charged with stealing the said Horse : about 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair com- plexion, light hair and whiskers ; dressed in stained cord trousers, dark cloth vest, white slop, dark stiff felt hat, all old and dirty. Information to be given to Inspector Reynolds, Stevenage, Herts.— Bow- street, May 24. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a field at Dyffrynsaith, Penbryn, during the night of the 24th instant, the property of David Evans, farmer : a bay Mare, 3 years old, about 14 hands high, long mane and tail, has a lump under the belly, hind feet recently shod, and in rather fair condition. Information to be given to Superintendent Lloyd, Llandyssul, Cardiganshire.— Bow- street, May 31. During the night of the 22nd instant, a Sheep was slaughtered in a meadow, at Ightham, and the hind quarters stolen therein, the property of Stephen Tomkin. Information to be given to Superintendent Hulse, Police Court, West Mailing, Kent.— Bow- street, May 31. Stolen from a field at Minster Lovel during the night of the 28th instant, a Lamb of the long wool breed, the pro- perty of Mr. John Gillett, of Minster Lovell. Information to be given to Superintendent Cope, Police Station, Witney, Oxon.— Bow- street, May 31. Stolen on the 20th instant, from a field at Pembury, Kent: a light- coloured mare Donkey, lame in off shoulder, and has been clipped. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Dance, Police Court, Tonbridge, Kent. - Bow- street, May 29. Stolen from a field near the railway- station, Chipping Ongar, on the afternoon of the 19th instant: an aged bay LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Description of ROBERT BANNY, labourer, charged with embezzlement, at Todmorden : about 44 years of age, 5 feet high, sallow complexion, grey eyes, brown hair, stout build, very much marked on face from a burn. Information to be given to Superintendent Ormsby, West Riding Consta- bulary, Halifax, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, May 31. Absconded from Lincoln on the 28th instant, stealing £ 11 : a youth, 18 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high" dark hair, very small whiskers; dressed in white straw hat with black ribbon, blue serge jacket with gilt buttons, blue cloth trousers, and side- spring boots. Information to be given to Chief Constable Mansell, Lincoln City Police.— Bow- street, May 31. Description of MARY WILLIAMS, alias HARRIET WILLIAMS, alias COCKRANE, a travelling dressmaker, and tailoress, charged on a warrant with Illegally Pawning Goods, at Bridport, Dorset, on the 18th instant: she is also suspected of stealing a Pedlar's Certificate ( which she may use) belonging to Elizabeth Hutchens, of Bridport, Dorset, granted by the Chief Constable of Dorset, in October, 1871. She is about 50 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, pale complexion, dark hair turning grey; dressed when last seen in a light brown skirt, a brown shawl, black jacket under, and old black bonnet. She left Bridport, on the 20th and was seen near Dorchester, on the 21st instant. Information to be given to Superintendent MacHale, Beaminster, Dorset, who holds a warrant for her apprehension.— Bow- street, May 31. Absconded from Hoveton, St. John's, [ near Norwich, charged with stealing £ B0, and three Carpets, on the21st ult.: MARY BESFER, 42 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark hair, eyes, and complexion, rather full features ; she is accompanied by a man, 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, light hair, whiskers, and moustache, slender build ; they are supposed to be living together as man and wife, and to have 2 P O L I C E ( i A Z ET T E. 1 % 31 opened a small shop in some town or village, and were last heard of at Hebhurn, New Town, Durham. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Atthill, or to Detective Sergeant Hudson, County Police Station, Norwich, who holds a warrant for her apprehension.— Bono- street, May 31. Stolen from the dwelling- house of Enoch Plant, in the parish of Brewood, between 3 and 5 p. m. on the 23rd instant: an old- fashioned silver verge Watch, with a small piece chipped oil' dial. By an Irish labourer, named JAMES GARRA, who had been staying at the house, and absconded the same day : he is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, light complexion, small sandy whiskers, and is pitted with small pox ; dressed in dark ribbed cloth jacket, with white slop underneath, light cord trousers, and black billy- cock hat ; he was traced to Wolverhampton, where he had been trying to pawn the watch, information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Disney, Forebridge, Stafford, or to Sergeant Barrett, Police Station, Penkridge, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, May 31. Absconded on the 25th instant, front Sevenoaks, Kent, charged with embezzling various sums of Money: WILLIAM ELSON, 36 years- of age, £ f- feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, a little curly, whiskers meeting under chin, proportionate make, small eyes, he is a little lame of one leg, through an injured knee ; dressed in light grey- or black- suit. He is supposed to be about to leave England for America. Information to be given to Superintendent Okill, Polite Court, Sevenoake. — Bow- street, Man 31. Absconded from Nottingham, charged on warrant with embezzling various sums of money: WILLIAM ROBIN- SON, a grocer, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 11 inch'es or 6' feet high, ruddy complexion, large sandy beard ami whiskers, atont buikl, usually wears a black surtout, recently cut the middle finger of left hand ; it is supposed that he will try to leave the country. Information to be given to Chief Constable Parry, Borough Police Station, Nottingham.— Bow- st., Mai/ 29. Stolen from a dwelling- house in Middlesborough, on the 24th instant : a grey- mixture cloth shooting Coat, with two pockets outside, and one inside left breast, back not lined, aud has light- coloured buttons on ; a black pilot cloth Jacket, with ' wo pockets outside, brown mixture lining, and has large black bone buttons on ; a double- breasted dark twilled cloth Vest, large collar, black covered buttons, and has three pockets outside ; and a pair of blucher boots, with three holes on each side, all man's size. By a man, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fresh complexion, light hair, ginger whiskers, large eyes, long features, stout built, has a crooked finger, and letter ' D.' left side, is a native of Manchester, aud a labourer; dressed in a whiteduck jacket, dark cord trousers, blucher boots, and old cloth cap. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Middlcsborongh- ori- Tees.— Bom- street, May 29. Absconded on the 17th instant, from Litcham, Norfolk, charged with embezzling 6s. 10id. and other sums of Money : SAMUEL ALDOUS, a journeyman butcher, about 36 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and whiskers; dressed in dark pilot cloth coat or jacket, long blue slop, cord trousers, lace boots, and black chummy hat, very greasy ; be is native of Bungay, Suffolk, is addicted to drink, and keeps low company, will probably seek employ- ment at butcher's, & c., in London, or other large towns. Information to be given to Superintendent Amis, East Dereham, or to Inspecter Murrell Litcham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— boio- street, May 29. JOHN SOUTHCOMBE is charged with uttering a forged Bill of Exchange for £ 200 : he carried oil business as a hair- dresser aud perfumer at 131, Jermyn street, is 40 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, fair complexion, small features, bine eyes, light brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, slightly bald ; dressed in black frock coat, tweed trousers, ; tnd higii hat. Supposed to be in the neighbourhood of Hampton, and a warrant has been granted against him. — Metropolitan Police, C Division, Matt 29. Description of JAMES SMITH, otherwise JOHN SAWYERS, charged with stealing a roll of tweed Cloth from the White Lion Inn, East Grinstead, on the 12th instant, the property of Thomas Crawley, aud for whose apprehension a warrant is issued : he is about 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, fail- complexion, light hair, 110 whiskers, slight moustache, rather stout built; dressed in black coat, long light trousers aud vest, and hard felt hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Kennard, East Grinstead, Sussex. — Bow- street, May 27. Absconded from Cheltenham, on the 21st itisiaut, charged with embezzlement: EDWIN CHASCEY, a porter, about 18 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, brown liair, dark brown eyes, light complexion, clean face, stout built, slouching walk, and has bad feet ; dressed in black bo^ vler hat, black clothes, and low shoes ; has been a sailor, and will probably t> y and get a ship. Information to be given to Superintendent Day, Cheltenham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 27. Stolen from a cottage at Brentwood, on the 22nd' instant, the property of Thomas Howath, the following property : a Crimean Medal, No. 5358 ; a good conduct Medal, No. 284 ; a Turkish Medal ; and a black cloth Waistboat: By a man of the following description: about 65 years of age, 5 feet15 or 6 inches high, grey hair and whiskers ; dressed in black cloth waistcoat and trousers, high hat, plaid necktie, side- spring boots, with buttons down the fronts. Information to lie given at the Constabulary Office, Brentwoody Essex.— Bow- street, May 27. Description of ROBERT AGNEW ROBERTSON, travelling draper, charged with embezzling the sum of' 15s. 3d?, the Monies of his master, Mr. James Hutchinson, of Gains- boro', at Gainsboro', on the 18th instant: about 22 ( yemre- of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, slight build, freckled face, sandy hail-, tuft of hair on chin, and small moustache ; dressed in a grey tweed coat, orange and brown coloured trousers) black cloth vest, black billycock hat, aud elastic- side boots, high in the instep. Had in his possession a pedlar's certificate fpr Lincolnshire, " ranted at Gainsboro' about three months ago. Information to be given to Superintendent Truelove, County Police Station, Gainsboro,' Lincolnshire, who holds a- warrant for his apprehensiop.— Bow- street, May 27. Stolen on the 17th instant from the Wagon and Horses public- house, at Daventry, the property of George King; the landlord : 3 yards superfine black Cloth; arid a womaii' « > taliW> Bedgown. By two men, who had lodged in the house, of the following description : one JOHN SMITH, 33 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark brown hair and complexion, no whiskers, and blue mark across the nose between the eyes ; dressed in a dark cutaway coat, old dark cloth trousers patched at the . knecs, and a cap with peak; and the'otherj EDWARD BRITTEN, 21 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair companion, light brown hair out Bhort, and no whiskers ; dressed in an old dark coat, dark ragged trousers, red scarf, and cap with peak ; they are both natives of Raunds, in Northamptonshire, shoemakers by trade, and do stitched work. Supposed to be in the neighbourhood of Birmingham. Information to be given to the Daventry Borough Police, Northamptonshire.— Bow- street, May 27. Absconded on the 21st instant from Oxford- street, stealing £ 7a in Gold, the money of his father : a youth, 18 years of age, very fair, full eyes ; dresses in a black frock coat, yellow trousers, high hat, and side- spring boots, who was sent to bank the money at the London and County Bank, Fleet- street.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, May 24. FHAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Description of a man who absconded from Middlesborough on the 18th iustant, charged with obtaining,. by false pretences, a large silver Geneva Watch,.' No. 16652' engraved on inner case, a crack on dial," and had" a small" silver Chain, curb pattern, attwehfd : GEORGE COUSINS,; from 20 to 23 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, ginger moustache, no whiskers, is a native of Norfolk, works as a painter, ship carpenter, or fireman, on board steam ships'; dressed in a blue pilot cloth jacket, mix- ture striped! cloth'trousers, bine cloth cap with cheesecutter peak. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Mid- dlesborough- on- Tees.— Bow- street, May 29. MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATIONS.
